Nin is probably still talking.
You can feel her mouth moving beneath your hand, incessant murmuring escaping from between your fingers.

Definitely talking.

Sheszka follows along behind as you head for the edge of the nest, crawling out and onto the trunk, one hand holding the little moth, the other keeping her quiet.
The wolf takes the ladder.

The day is fresh, sun beaming overhead- You've got plans. All sorts of plans.
Going to the village to check out schedules and the like. Planning your escape. Eating until you're too full to move.
Hopping a boat and just letting the river take you.

Maybe not the last one.
Actual planning ahead would probably help the whole leaving thing.
And stop Mom from hunting you down.

Your mind wanders, and your body follows suite.

We'll see about letting Nin visit her family prior to leaving, if not sooner.

We're not actually leaving the forest yet. We can do that later.
>>
>>37749704
Cool. Say, while we're visiting people, anyone interested in putting together a royal to do list before we depart from the forest on our grand adventure? We haven't managed to track down Seranthis yet, for example.
>>
>>37749489
>>37749704
As far as I remember Nin wanted to see her parents again after having left the forest and having retured.
>>
>>37749845
It wouldn't be a bad idea to convince her to see her family, let them know how she's grown and that she'll be fine when she goes on her journeys. And also to let her continue spreading her propaganda of the future Queendom.
>>
>>37749804

Don't forget, we still need to restore more of the ruins. It's good magic practice and we were going to do that anyway, disappearing for ages isn't really conductive to all of that.

Yeah, I realized after I posted. I think I may have gottenn her confused with somebody else.
>>
No point in wasting time, you suppose.

You kick up your complete lack of heels and make for the village, Sheszka trotting easily along behind you.
She's managed to get even faster, somehow. Which means running for you is... not running for her. At all.

You can keep a decent clip, though. The forest unravels around you as you move, giant trees fading into a meadow, the ruins vanishing behind you as you clatter over the ancient road.

You slow your pace, your hair fluttering to your shoulders as you breathe.

Walking up to the hilltop, standing before the village- It's a little hive of business, people moving through the streets, laughing and talking, the wind carrying sounds and smells.

One foot in front of the other, you head down the hill.

The guards let you through without complaint, laughing and marking your names down as they wave you into Oakring.
You're left to puzzle where to go first- Theresa probably has information on trade caravans and the like, but the guild might be able to tell you how to sign up. Or who would actually hire you.
And bugging Lann is always fun.

You ease past a group of women and a few men, heading to the river with all sorts of things in hand- Cleaning most likely.

And up ahead is-
A covered wagon, of all things.
Several covered wagons.

All sorts of goods are being offloaded, a few men hauling packages and bundles and boxes into the trader's shop.

>Check in with the trader, ask about schedules. Yes, you know there's one outside.

Nah. Restoring any serious amount of them means having to SIT DOWN and DO SAME THING for a long time.

Lyra is physically incapable of that.

I had no idea there was one.

There should be more games where you can have a giant sapient spider as a mount/companion though.
>>
While you definitely want to jump right in-
Well, they aren't villagers, are they?

And you are most certainly a giant spider.

Your fingers tap a litany of irritation onto your arm. You do your best to reassure yourself: They're busy, they're working, blah blah blah.

You'll just get annoyed if you stick around. Turning tail, you head through the village, waving at people as you walk. It doesn't take much before you reach the guild, pushing open the doors and stepping into its 'tavern'.

There's a few people sitting idly around, chewing on this or that for lunch. A few wave, but there's at least a pair you don't recognize. Maybe they came in with the caravan.

The man minding the bar directs you upstairs- Lann is apparently still sleeping. Or just lounging. It hardly matters.
Your hand snaps lightly against the door, three sharp knocks answered by a groggy voice.
You wait.

A messy haired half-elf pulls the door open, rubbing at her eyes and yawning.
" 'S m'day off. What d'ya want?"
You raise an eyebrow.
"Sleeping in, Lann?"

She yawns again, sweeping away the tears from the corners of her eyes.
"Lyra? What're you doing around so early?"
"It is past noon, yes?"
"Yeah, that's what I said."

"I am rolling my eyes, yes."
"Uh huh."
"All six."
"I'm sure."

She leans on the doorframe, sweeping one hand out, gesturing around.
"So...?"
"So?"
"Lyra, did you come here just to poke at me?"
"May I?"
"No."

"That's no fun. I came to ask about caravans, and such. And guarding. And Jobs. And the trade city and the elflands, yes."
"The elflands?"
"The elflands."
"Huh. Better than Ellsvier."
"I know, right?"

Well, there is always the possibility that a write-in is popular enough to turn it into:
>All the questions +1
>>
>>37752317
in such a case we could just automatically ask the obvious questions we had already planned on, and then ask for write ins.
>>
>>37752374
Because it is better to break it up into chunks you can write in 40 minutes, and gives the QM a ~15 minute break between updates while everyone votes.

>>"Not that one."

>>
>>37752895
Even by monster standards, it's kind of weird we grew a secondary decorative skull.

Now we get to be a skulltula
>>
>>37752895
Most likely yes.
>>
>>37752923
Well, as long as we stay away from becoming a gold one, we have nothing to worry about.
>>
>>37753001
I hope we'll gain the ability to levitate our decorative skull when Lyra gets her next upgrade.

That way we could use it as a carrier for our flying friends and as a dropship for the wolf.
>>
>>37753085
that's crazy, anon. you're crazy.
>>
>>37753085
The skull is non-detachable. And probably will remain as such for any following evolutions.
>>
>>37753001
>>37753085

REQM mentioned that metal spider will give us metal traceries on the skull, so I guess even if we do become money spider, we won't have to worry about being a pure gold skulltula.
>>
The most important thing we must achieve for our next transformation is being bigger and even more stronk.
>>
>>37753332

I kind of like our size right now, to be honest. We are just big enough to barely fit indoors with normal people. Now, learning how to make magma or earth armor to become a giant, elemental spider would be pretty cool.

>"You hunt giant monsters, just for food?"

>"....... bigger than any....."
>"And there was the giant bear. Bears are my favourite. It was so big, I could not see all of it. It was only once I was able to back away and get a good look that I realized it was a bear. It is a shame I did not get to eat more of it, but we were travelling and could not stay."

She can stop whenever she wants to anon.

She just doesn't want to.
>>
"So?"
"What?"
"Are you going to answer my questions?"
"You asked for general information. On something like six different things."
"Yes."

Lann gives you a stern look.
"Lyra."
"Lann."
She meets your gaze.

Then she looks away, sighing, running a hand through tangled hair.
"You're buying breakfast for me, then."
"Lunch."
"Whatever."

It takes a few minutes for her to get herself sorted out- fresh clothes, dunking her head in a bucket. Or something. Maybe they have showers or baths here? You didn't see any, but it's not really giant spider sized up here.

Later, seated at a table (Sans bench for you), with a rather decent spread of food, you get yours answers.
"So-"
Lann takes bites between words, wolfing down food like a dying woman.
You're kind of envious.
So you flag down the woman working, and order more. A lot more. For yourself, of course.

Lann washes down a particularly large chunk of bread with glass of water, wiping her mouth on her sleeve.
"Where do you want me to start, anyway?"
"Wherever you feel like?"
She pokes you in the forehead, leaning across the table.

"Pick Something."
"Guarding, then."
"What about it? The work? Where to get it?"
You tilt your head and wait.
>>
>>37753889
"Yeah, yeah."
She takes another sip.
"If you want to do it- Go through the guild-"
"People won't hire people from outside the guild?"
"Not like that. It's more, ah, You don't want the kinds of jobs you'd get elsewhere."

"Alright."
"As for the actual work, it's boring."
"Just boring?"
"All the work of sitting and waiting, with all the bonuses of having to do it standing and walking."

"You don't enjoy the travelling? New places?"
"I enjoyed leaving behind the elflands."
"You're saying it now, yes."
"It'd bug anyone from the parts."
"Dad didn't like it."
"Hah."

"Is guarding caravans really that bad, then?"
"It's not... that bad. You'll meet people, eat new things. Go new places. I've seen some pretty amazing towns."
"Like what?"
"There was one built behind a waterfall, another perched atop a cliff- Hells, I remember one made from old boats."

"Old boats? They just... Stitched them together, yes?"
"Something like that. They beached them, built walkways between them. And it just, y'know. Grew. More boats, more people."
"Huh."

"What about the trade city?"
"Harboursmouth?"
"Is that what it's called?"
"Yeah."
"Why?"

"I imagine cause it was built at a harbour's mouth."
"Then, the village is oakring because-"
"Yes."
"Are humans just really bad at naming things?"
"Seems like it. People either name things after where they are, or-"
"After themselves, yes?"
"Right."
>>
>>37753924

"Well, ah. What about the elflands, yes?"
"Uh. I didn't spend long there, to be honest. And pretty much no time across the water."
"Just at the coastal city?"
"Yeah. It wasn't bad or anything. Just not what I wanted to do with my life. And I left pretty early along."

"No information, then?"
"I could tell you a good place to play in the water. Get your feet wet."
"No feet, yes."
She laughs.

"Back to the trade city, then?"
"Alright. What about?"
"How easy is it to find work? Or caravans? Will they have trouble with an arachne?"
"Eh. They're pretty good about monsters. They trade with just about anyone, after all. There'll always be people, but... Well, nobody will let them do anything more than sneer. Nevermind if they actually tried anything, they'd wind up without arms."

"I do not think I will be pulling anyone's arms off."
"Sure sure. Works easy to find. More so with the guild. And there's always caravans in every direction. They don't even stop for the winter."
"Even with the snow? I thought the wagons would have trouble, yes."
"It doesn't get that bad around the city. It doesn't even snow at all further south, but, ah-"

"Hm?"
"Don't go too far south. They don't like monsters too much. And arachne less."
"The empire?"
"Just a city now. They won't even trade, so you wouldn't have to worry about hopping the wrong caravan."

"They won't trade?"
"Tainted by monsters and nonhuman filth, or some such garbage."
"What about that one merchant?"
"Which?"

"The fat idiot, yes. He went into the forest."
"What."
"I saved him from wolves. His family too, yes. He was going on about how great humans were."
"Probably just grew up near one of the churches. If he was from there, you'd know. Also, the guards would probably have killed him rather than let him anywhere near the forest. We don't need that kind of trouble."

How about we get Elle move into the village before we finally head out? (and just generally make "spiders are leaving the nest" a big moment for which everybody is going to participate and everybody starts their path at once... Set some traps in the night to catch bros for it, it'll be probably the only way to get them in on it.)

..and my initial point is make Elle show off dresses for Lann right in the village for advertisement.
>>
>>37754479
What I really want to do is make elle her nesthouse by the village before we go.

Our other siblings, too, if they're finding their own nests.

I mean, we're the only earthbender in the family, it's kind of our job to make everyone nice baths or whatever else they want.
>>
>>37754605

I worry about what the absence of our entire family from their post will mean in a time of crisis. If the little bros are the only ones left around, then whose going to watch for the signals or come from that direction in the event of an emergency. Who's going to watch mom's treasure stash?

Bros probably got a treehouse somewhere in the woods, go hobo or stay in the old nest.

Sara would love moving closer to the civilisation with ALL THE BOOKS, so she's likely to move along with Elle.
Or hang around in the old nest until she gets through Dad's collection (which is pretty huge I remind you)

Aria will probably go abroad like us or dungeon dive as Mom's understudy.

No. Not at all. She'll be on the road the moment the last of us is ready to leave.

The wanderlust is probably eating her alive right now.

You lean back on your shell a bit.
I wasn't enough food. But, still. Eating is extremely satisfying.

"Does the guild keep schedules?"
"For what?"
"Caravans and stuff, yes?"
"Probably?"

"You don't know?"
"I don't want those jobs. I don't care."
"That is... fair, yes."
"Mhm."

"Well, then. Ah- Do I need to join the guild to get work? Can I just take jobs? How does it work?"
"Uh. You can register, or you can work for the guild directly."
"Those sound the same, yes?"
"Nah, it's like- If you get registered, you get a badge. And you can take jobs, but you don't have to take jobs, right?"

"Okay. And working for the guild?"
"You're expected to do a certain number of jobs. Of a certain difficulty. But you get room and board, you get training, they help with equipment, and you'll always have reliable people to work with. Or at least to turn to, if you need it."
"Ah."

There is also one thing we're forgetting:

HOW DO WE DISPLAY JIN'S FEATHER

In earlier threads there was a bit of a talk, but it got forgotten, which saddens me greatly.

So I propose we flex out metalcraft muscles a bit.
This world has glass, right?
Soo we metalcraft an amulet. As ornate as we can get it, big enough to hold the feather and a glass covering slotted over it.

Making the glass should be also easy - just craft a form (to shape that would fit the amulet), use fire to heat the glass and let it flow in, then cool.

Bam, very fancy and secure feather display case.

"Can I get registered, then?"
"Probably? I'll find someone."
"Also, how could I take jobs, before?"
"Huh?"
"I have taken jobs in the village, yes?"

"Local stuff. People know you, right? You can't just walk into a guild halfway across the world and expect them to trust you with a job."
"Ah."
"C'mere."

She stands, stretching, pulling each arm behind her back as she heads down another hall. It's much shorter than the upstairs piece- Only three doors long.
She knocks lazily on one, swinging it open when she gets an answer from within.
You stay in the hall, peering around the door.

The room is a little small for you.

"Lann? You filled out the month, didn't you? I didn't think I'd see you up before sundown."
"Caught a bad case of the spiders, sir."
He laughs, looking up from his desk and catching sight of you hovering in the doorframe.

"I'd invited you in, but-"
"I am thinking I would break the door, yes."
"The offices were built after the rooms upstairs. And I am fairly sure they were just small closets."
"Well, now it's your small closet, sir."
"Thank you, Lann."

He glances between you.
"How can I help you two, then?"
"Crazy eyes here-"
"My eyes are perfectly normal, yes."
"You have six, and they're all black."
"Yes. Normal."

"She wants to get registered up."
He blinks.
"Really? Aren't you a bit young, miss?"
"Not for an arachne, yes? I will be leaving the nest soon."

"I didn't think it was quite that fast, is all."
"Yes, yes. I haven't grown in months, now."
"Her chest has been growing for months!"
"Nin, If I have to keep you in a box, I will, yes."

Lann has looked away to laugh.
"What does it take to get registered, anyway?"
"Uh. People speak for your reputation, then we decide whether or not to allow it."
"I need to find more than Lann, then?"
"Normally yes? But half that guild drops by to ask if you've been registered yet. Several times a week."

You look back to your friend.
"Really?"
"They like the stories."
"I don't remember the stories, yes."
"You were a little drunk."
"Oh."

"Do you want me to make up the papers now?"
"Yes, please. Do I need to have the rest of these idiots registered as well?"

You turn, twisting your body to face your friends.
"Well? You were listening, yes? Do you want to be registered, or...?"
"Truly, to be lauded by my lady as worthy of both praise and-"
"Do you even know what that word means?"
"Yes?"

"You aren't being registered. Sheszka?"
"Do you think I should, Al-Lyra?"

You run your hand through her hair.
"When people see it, everyone will know you are strong and reliable, yes? That you can be trusted."
"Then why can't I get one?"
"Because you are as slippery as a snake, yes."
"Hey!"
"Sorry."

"I'll- I'll get one! Yes!"
"I will make you a necklace, yes. Or something like it. You can wear it and let everyone see."
"Yes!"
"Ah. Can I get one for Jin as well?"

"She's a little, uh. Sleepy. I don't think she'd be doing jobs without you. Do you think she'd need one?"
"She'll want one, in any case. And it could be useful if she had to carry messages, yes."

"Alright, then."
He hands you a quill, tip heavy with ink.
"Sign here, please."

You take it, scratching your name across the parchment, ink trailing neatly into the letters of your name. Your full name.
He takes back the paper, and replaces it on the desk with a trio of iron seeming circles, each emblazoned with the guild's crest.
Just shiny enough. You were probably right to grab one for Jin.

He scans the paper, nods, and tucks it away into his desk.
"Lyra Niallasdottir of Firescarn? It sounds nearly noble."

Why in any gods name would you think that a six eye girl, each one a pitch black orb, leaning around a building at a height to high for a human body, her hands, claws as sharps as knives hanging onto the side- is somehow less frightening now tht you can see some of the spider bits?

>>37757217
The aesthetic might be a little far away from each other for that to work.
Mikhael wants to keep people alive, and make good armour.
Elle likes lace.
>>
>>37757346
>The aesthetic might be a little far away from each other for that to work.
Ah, okay. I was thinking that Mihael would do the design for the protective metal bits, Elle for the layers of cloth, and Sara would add magic.

It might work like that. Just keep Elle away from 'designing' any armour.

>>37757401

>>37757443
>>37757493
I thought they didn't 'work' as such. Or rather, they were too awkward and limiting to use.

>>37757515
They were there to pick up spider silk, actually. You would have had to deal with smarmy merchants.

>>37757583
The guild building, probably. Most houses have thatched roofs and single floors. You need something solid to hang from.

>>
>>37757654
Can...

>>
>>37757654
>Just keep Elle away from 'designing' any armour.

That's a surprise. I had guessed layers of extremely strong spider silk would make excellent ballistic armour. Especially for people like Lann who don't like to get weighted down a lot by their protection.
>>
>>37757866
That's manufacturing.
If we let her design it, it'd just be pretty dresses.
>>
>>37757665
If you say so.
I'd probably make you roll for it.

>>37757694
As long as you don't sign anything.

>>37757866
It absolutely would.
But Elle likes designing clothing, not armour. She wouldn't think so much about protection, more about how it would look.
You'd end up with fantasy female armour.
>>
>>37757934
>fantasy female armor
maybe we should get some.
For later.

Though, we might need to wait until we are done growing before we make that kind of armor.
>>
>>37757934
>>37757904
Ah, I see. So, how many dresses would Lann have to endure to get one set of armour made?
>>
>>37757988
Lann is pretty smart, and rather quick on her feet. She'd probably negotiate it in. Armour first, so she can do her work and come back safe.

>>37757974
I'm not even sure how it'd work.
>>
>>37758101
>She'd probably negotiate it in
Awww, that's no fun to watch.

We also need to give Jin the amulet. Did we remind dad to hurry up with his research?
>>
>>37758162
You don't think Lann and Elle bartering back and forth over the numbers of dresses, Lann trying to ramp back on lace whatevers, Elle trying to slip in more experimental underwear as they argue would be entertaining?

As for the amulet- give Dad a poke when you're home sometime. It's research, so it's definitely not something he's stopped, just distracted.
>>
>>37758261
Don't worry reQM, I think it'd be interesting.

Though I'm always advocating more weaving and house making and shit.
>>
>>37758261
Okay, I'll have faith in you. You'll manage to make it interesting.
