Last episode of KRSQ was kind of short, and revolved mostly around Ryoji, Makoto, and the rest of Team Raid Wild being reunited once more. Ryoji, thanks to the deal he brokered with the spirit named RA, managed to push the Helheim infection into remission, and is now able to walk around and be active once more...

However, due to an unknown discussion between Takatora Kureshima (head of R&D for Yggdrasil, project lead for Project EDEN) and Ryoji, he's been released with a tracking collar affixed to his neck. You and Ryoji compared it to a leash around his neck... leading you to start doubting Yggdrasil's benevolence further.

>PLAYER SELECT: MAKOTO KINUSHIMA

However, today is the beginning of a new day, and certainly a much brighter prospect. On one of your increasingly rare days off, you've got the entirety of the day free to do as you please. There's karate class today at the community center, plus the ever present warring states between the dance teams. Of course, you could also try stealing away for some practice... but in the end, it's your decision!

What will you do today?

Votes accepted, karate class wins 4-1.
Nice to see you guys, by the way. We missed you.

You've sadly neglected to continue your training in karate, and given how things have been heating up in the recent weeks or so, you figure that maybe it's time to get back on the path. Packing a training gi, a spare set of clothes, and of course your Lockseeds and Driver into a bag, you take off towards the community center on the Rose Attacker.

While on your way, you take a second to appreciate the calm that's dominating today. It's chilly, but your black worn leather jacket (a present from mom for Christmas) and soft hoodie are helping you stay somewhat insulated. Snow fell in the recent days since Ryoji's been in the hospital, and while there's no threat of further precipitation in the next couple of days, it's still making the roads kind of slippery. Regardless, you make it to the community center with no incident.

However, the Community Center's workout room is abuzz with activity today. Much more people are in the room, again of all kinds of Zawame residents. Some of them are even sporting official gi from other, out-of-town dojos, colored in black and red and blue, and you can see a couple colored belts amongst their contingency. Everyone, however, is currently staring into the center of the room, where there is a bout that's currently going on.

What's strange, at first glance, is that one of the two involved - a young man, with a mop of hair similar to Micchy's but most certainly not him, and wearing more Chinese attire - is NOT practicing karate at all. It looks too fluid and calm to be karate...

...whatever it is, it's mopping the floor with the blue belt that's challenged him. No good, solid hits from the blue belt are landing anywhere near his body - it's like the Chinese-attired man is living water!

Man, I don't want to be rivals with Tiger Chen. He'll kick our ass, and then Keanu Reeves will make a movie about it.
>>
>>37724284
If I might make a counterpoint:
A rivalry against someone that skilled might, depending on how we handle it, develop into an apprenticeship and a good way to train further.
Plus a Keanu Reeves movie wouldn't be bad, really.

Speaking of movies, is there any 3d actress who could play Makoto out there? I'm trying to come up with anyone besides Mao Ichimichi (Luka, Gokaiger) and I'm drawing a blank.

That'll just inspire us to seek out a new master, train in the art of Lockseed-fu, gain his respect, then make our own action movie!

You set your bags down and take up a position on the wall, near a few of the regulars at the Community Center's karate class. They recognize you - even the little boy and his mom - but are more focused on watching the Chinese-attired man slapping his opponent's shit.

Surprisingly, despite the raw essence that this man seems to exude, the Dragon's reacting none at all to him. Perhaps he views him as a nuisance if anything. Strange, but you brush it off as you continue to observe.

Soon enough the impromptu spar is over, and the blue belt limps his way off of the stage. The martial artist doesn't seem to have broken much of a sweat, however, as he turns to the crowd.

>MARTIAL ARTIST: "This was not a result of more than dedication and training, to be sure. Given enough time and enough of yourselves that you put into your training, I'm sure each of you can reach higher than I ever could."

His humility seems a bit forced, but it comes off to you as more about not exactly sure what to say - he doesn't appear to be typically used to speaking for a crowd yet. His japanese also sounds slow and a bit of a struggle - perhaps he's Chinese as well?

You take a second to think. This man could teach you a lot about self defense, given his evident skill. Certainly would be a lot better than trying to learn from essentially amounted to Rex Kwan Do, or strip mall kung fu. And even if you didn't really win, there's still a chance to learn.

Taking off your shoes and your leather jacket - that thing's expensive, man - you stride forward, trying to meet him in the eye. You can feel the Dragon starting to pace, as if to say "THIS IS POINTLESS... SHOULDN'T WE BE DOING SOMETHING ELSE?"

But, y'know, you've never really been good with turning down challenges.

>MAKOTO: "Sorry I was late to the party, but you wanted a challenger?"
>MAN: "If that's your wish, I'd be happy to give a couple rounds. Are you going to be okay in fighting with what you're wearing, though?"
>MAKOTO: "What? A pair of nice jeans never hurt no one."
>MAN: "Alright, if you say so."

With a little confident flourish, the man gets into a ready stance. The speed and fluidity of his movements are even more apparent, now that he's gotten a couple moments to rest and recover. But maybe you can impress him.

>MAKOTO: "What style is that? I've never seen it before."
>MAN: "The last of its kind, Ling Kong Tai Chi. And yours?"

Last reply and choice for a bit before I need to take an OOC break to pick up my paycheck and move to a different location.

You decide to make the first move, to test just how much you need to put into this fight. A simple swing of a right hook - pretty fast, even for your standards - soars towards his face, and as expected he easily blocks it. No indication of bowing or surprise by your power, as the Green Rider had.

Good, this man was legit. You smirk further. His face remains placid.

With no time to spare, you start unloading everything you have into him - jabs and hooks, a few knees and kicks - and his defense is nigh impeccable. Your forms from Karate get mixed into your fighting style, enough to give at least some impression that you've learned something (your sensei is in the room, after all) but it shifts to simple kickboxing in no time flat. Through the fight, the man blocks and weaves around you easily. More than enough times he locks your fists and arms up with what seems to be effortless motion - which only serves to make you grind your teeth. He even manages to get you down face-first with your arm barred behind you.

He's styling on you, it feels like, and it only serves to make you feel inadequate in comparison.

You back up from a tie-up and reform your stance, slowly circling him. A little effort is shown on his face, but he resumes his form and stares you down once more. The flow of battle shifts to you once more.

Lashing out again in wilder swings isn't helping your impression in the eyes of this guy, that's for sure. And you can feel a couple of the hits become sloppy against this nigh indomitable guard of his.

Wait, does he look disappointed in you?

The ferocity in your strikes increases almost exponentially, as you start abandoning all pretense of "holding back". Every punch feels like a jackhammer, every knee is sure to break a couple ribs - but every attack is met with an unrelenting defense in return!

>He rolled 19.

And now it's his turn to start his press.

With every attack you make, now it feels like it's not only being deflected off of his guard, but it ends up redirected in momentum to fuel his strikes. Palm strikes and pushes are most of his upper body's repertoire, and every redirected attack makes you feel so much dumber for it.

If you're to change the flow of this fight, you need to think fast...!

It's time to kick it into high gear. This man's clearly operating at top gear as well.

With every strike he lashes out, you start weaving instead of blocking. To avoid getting hit. The momentum starts to build in your muscles, with the constant bob and weave motion in full effect.

The man backs off a bit, as he's realizing his strikes aren't doing anything, but as soon as he drops his guard, you strike. One of the most massive punches you've ever thrown hits him square in the jaw... then the next punch on the other side. And another, and another, and another.

Somewhere in the flurry of gigantic hooks you're swinging, you're sure you felt something break.

And with one final blow, you manage to knock the man several feet back, sliding into one of the walls and hitting the padding.

The room is silent.

With a hesitant stride, you go over and offer a hand to the man. To your surprise, he's smiling a bit as he grasps your hand. He struggles to his feet, and almost as if he wasn't decked multiple times in the jaw, he makes his way over to the center of the room.

>MAKOTO: "You put up one hell of a fight, man. I've seen monsters that took less effort to knock down."
>MARTIAL ARTIST: "I think you might have what it takes, young lady."
>MAKOTO: "Eh?"
>MARTIAL ARTIST: "You've got power behind your muscles, and not only the ferocity and drive to utilize it, but more importantly, the forethought and care to not let yourself get lost in it."

The way he looks at you makes it feel like he's staring into your soul... it's unnerving, to say the least.

>MARTIAL ARTIST: "But you've never fought against a tai chi practicioner, I'm willing to bet?"
>MAKOTO: "Aheh...."

You try to cover for your past, and his eyebrows raise, and he strokes his jaw thoughtfully.

>MARTIAL ARTIST: "By the way you handle your punches and kicks, I'd be putting money on the opposite. Though there are those prodigies who take to fighting like a fish to water, despite no training."

You weren't about to admit that you were behind the mask of one of the toughest forces responsible for repelling interdimensional monsters from the city.

>MARTIAL ARTIST: "However, young lady, you definitely could benefit from some formal training in how to keep your power in check. Leaving it unrestrained can easily lead to losing yourself and going down a route you're not willing to take."

>MAN: "Makoto... Kinushima?"

As soon as it clicks, his eyes light up.
Exactly like Mayu's back at Yggdrasil.

Son of a bitch. He knows who you are now.

>MAN: "Holy shit, I didn't click the pieces together - I should have recognized it was you! Oh my god. I'm so sorry!"
>MAKOTO: "Hey, hey, keep it down, man! I'm not really into the fame thing, okay? I'm not someone to venerate. Just... would prefer if I got to know people based on actual people and not because of some pre-supposed notion that i'm some awesome chick who can do no wrong, a'ight?"

The light doesn't go out in his eyes, but it does temper significantly, as he takes a deep breath. A simple exercise to try to get the tension out of his system, you observe, as he opens his eyes once more.

>MAN: "I'm Lau Chang. I'm a stuntman, worked under a few movie stars. Kind of taking a break right now... got a few friends in Zawame that are helping me crash for a while. But yeah, dude, if you want to train at any time I'd be more than willing to help out. Who knows, maybe you can knock some sense with a style that they've never seen."

SAGARA?! ONORE!!!!

Also, I was picturing some odd Lockseed Combo's.

Plum Based Shotels

Pear Based Tonfa's

Raspberry Based Boomerangs

A Blackberry Based Kanobo

What lockseeds are you guys thinking of
>>
>>37734080
Tomato Bombs?

I mean technically they are fruits.
>>
>>37734274
Blueberry Magnum!

Also, I think we know IC'ly that our boss is military, so maybe we can talk to him about conditioning tips n such. That is if we know Icly.

I think it's time we played Social Links and expand our skillet.
>>
>>37734080
I'm still thinking Bunya Halberd as Hase's weapon when he eventually gets an upgrade. He deserves to wield the king of pines. Even if the Bunya isn't actually a pine and it's just convergent evolution. It'll still look cool.
>>
>>37734274
Botanically speaking, even nuts are fruits. Hell, bananas are technically a type of berry!

Personally, I would like to see an Avocado Lockseed. Maybe a simple club? Or a huge-ass warhammer?
>>
>>37734080
JACKFRUIT PANDORA.
With a multi-form ranged weapon to go with Suika Arms' multiple close ranged weapons.

Low defensive power, but amazing destructive potential. You become an artillery piece at the cost of mobility and being very easy to bruise.
>>
>>37734426
What about a Guava Lockseed?
>>
>>37734450
You know, we still haven't used out Suika Lockseed. We need to at some point, just so Makoto can geek out over having her own mecha. She and Kouta will love it.
>>
>>37734471
That could work too. Maybe it could be a staff, like Kuuga uses in Dragon Form? Green along the length of the staff, with peeled guavas on both ends? It would certainly go well with our new Tai Chi skills!
>>
>>37734368
Also, I know it maybe kinda odd but I sorta Picture Hase learning swordsmanship as well as Akido. In before Hase becomes Kamen Rider Geese Howard.

As for Makoto. One these two come to mind.

>>37734450 ...Oh my fucking god. IT'S GLORIOUS.
>>
>>37734472
>There is a commotion on the Helheim forest, Inves are screaming, trees are falling, and there are many, many explosions.

>Kouta: Makoto! Wait a minute! You don't need to raze the forest to the ground!
>A strange Inves jumps out of the top of a tree. His four enormous arms raised in what appear to be a challenge, legs poised to jump at any minute, ready to strike...
>And it is promptly cleft in twain by a twinblade.
>Makoto: What was that Kouta? I couldn't hear you over the sound of my WATERMELON MINI-MECHA WHOO!
>>
>>37734771
Pretty sure we'd get watermelon slice claws, not a twinblade. But otherwise yes, that's exactly how I see that scenario happening.
>>
>>37734771

Also, here's another concept of the Yggdrasil meets Winds of Destruction team.

She will have the following Lockseeds
>Coconut
>Kumquat
>Pomello
>Fig
>Wolfberry

She'll be a Heavy Weapons Specialist So basically despite her demure looks, she's going to be the mailed fist of the team. Her Yggdrasil Branch of Origin is Yggdrasil London.
>>
Oh, another idea! Cloudberry Lockseed. Uses a bola as a weapon. Makes a killer jam. Leaves a distinct tart taste.

In the interest of continuning the training theme for the day, you start exploring the city, looking for any specific signs of rogue Inves activity around the place.

Three locations make themselves known as emergence sites for recent Inves activity:

>Near the Free Performance Zone
>Behind the convenience shop by Ryoji's house
>Near the ramen shop you met Kaito at.

All of them have remnants of the Helheim Forest flora around them - withered vines and fruits, black dirt littered around the floor.

However, you feel that you only have time to take one investigation mission tonight. Which will you take?

>Or, will you head home for the night and take the night off?

Yeah, we're willing to wait. Take as much time as you need, Sagara.
>>
>>37738500
As you park in the alley next ot the ramen shop, you start to feel a tingle shoot up and down your spine. The Dragon stands at alert, on guard for any signs of prey.

And signs of prey there are, indeed.

The remnants of Inves body parts litter the ground around the back of the ramen shop. Gnawed off, jagged-ly cut, and everything about them screaming "RIP AND TEAR". Certainly, it wasn't your hand or claw that brought this upon the Inves.

But you have no idea what could be on the other side of the slowly opening Crack to Helheim.

You do hear, however, bat-like chitter a ways off on the other side.

Don't forget to equip our Driver, first. Maybe not transform, but have it on and ready.

Also, bat-like chittering? I really hope that it turns out the Bat Inves we helped is now on our side, or something like that. More likely it's just gone berserk and attacked these Inves while out of control, but I would be so very pleased if it's a warrior of justice working to defend mankind. Remember, it is recently transformed from human.

Knowing better than to go unprepared into the abyss, you secure your belt to your waist, and go through the motions. Lockseed into the holder, hands in front of face, slam the lever down.

>M'S DRIVER: "DRAGONFRUIT ARMS!"

The armor fastens itself around your torso and upper body, gambeson forming as soon as it hits you, and the familiar jingle sounds out. It's becoming more routine these days, which helps a bit... but for now, you've got less time to wory about the aesthetics.

You step into the portal, dragging your bike along with you as you enter the Forest once more. The sounds of animal life of all kinds, unknown aside from being variant species of inves, echo across the trees and forest floor. You look around, and out of the corner of your vision you see flits of movement. Most certainly Inves prowling around at this time of day, it had to be.

But you've never seen an Inves running away with another Inves' arm in its mouth.

>TO BE CONTINUED TOMORROW...

>>
>>37740438
I know right!
>>
>>37740580
The weird thing is, he could actually be totally okay with this. The point of Helheim is to force evolution on a world. A bunch of Inves living peacefully not competing for resources or threatening each other doesn't make for much natural selection. Normally he only gets conflict when Overlords first arise, then they settle down to stagnation until the next cycle. This way he could get a whole world struggling and evolving, it'll be great.
>>
>>37740438
>>37740580
>>37740700
Eh, I think the forest does have normal animal competition amongst the Inves. It just wasn't the focus of the story.

(And also it frankly kinda goofed. Inves get supercharged and evolve from eating a handful of fruits and are shown craving them... But in the forest, there are tons of them everywhere, while the mobs just stumble around blindly.)

==========================

As you make your way into the Helheim, you get an impression that today's not a normal kind of day in the hell forest that you've been slowly getting to know. The trees are quieter today, insects and birds remaining eerily silent. There's a strong wind blowing through the forest tonight, it seems - through the leaves in the canopy, you can see that there's some storm clouds rolling around in the sky above the forest.

Soon enough, rain starts making its way through the rivulets and down the leaves and trees.

It's all very peaceful, and strangely enough comforting. Even with the alien plant life and the ever present threat of the Inves, you can't help but admire the scene for a bit.

But while you've got the armor on, you might as well get some training in. And to do that you need to search for some Inves, or figure out some other way of practicing. To the north of where you entered, a well worn trail appears to be leading deeper into the forest - as well as sounds of a running river. To the east, where you saw the flit of an Inves with another's arm in its mouth, is more trees and foliage.

You summon the DragoClaw and start hacking away at the thin branches and leaves standing in your way to the east. It's slow going - you didn't expect the trees and wood to be so strong, especially for looking so flimsy - but eventually you start cleaving a followable path.

As you cut through, the rain continues to pour on your helmet and visor. Maybe it's the whole "alien world" kind of thing, but you're getting a massive Metroid Prime vibe off of the entire trip. Still, however, no signs of any Inves to note as you pick through the bushes.

Your mind wanders as you explore. Considering the recent events, there's no doubt that Yggdrasil's got a deeper hand into the Helheim's pocket than was previously estimated. Ryoji's collar thing, the whole thing with K... K had to be part of Yggdrasil. There was no way she couldn't be - how would she know about you already and tell you the "professionals" have it covered? What was her deal anyways? Did she bear a grudge against you?

And for that matter, what the hell was up with her talking like she knew your mom? You forgot to ask Mom last time you were with her...

In front of you you hear more running water.
Behind you is the opening to the real world.
There is forest on either side, thick and dense.

Stopping in your tracks, in the little makeshift empty space you've cleared, you start to take a deep breath. The rain's continuning to calm your nerves, your thoughts... becoming sharper. Closing your eyes to control your breathing, with the exercises you've learned in karate class...

...oh, how you wish that this forest could be something of a blessing to this world, instead of a cancer.

For a little while, you feel no sign of the Dragon anywhere near your psyche.

Soon enough, the dense forest parts to much thinner, straighter trees. Little evidence of the fruit bearing trees can be found - you muse that this is a much different part of the forest that hasn't been touched yet. The terrain here is hilly, covered in damp teal and cerulean moss. Overcast darkness is dominating your sight, and vision is low at first - though with a little adjustment of your visor, night vision is blessed upon you. Whoever made these armors thought of everything didn't they?

Your attention, however, is drawn further down the hill that you're currently on top of. There appears to be a series of small stone structures... resembling houses? Maybe? It's hard to tell, but they're organized in at least some fashion.

Not to mention the luminescent trail of liquid leading down there from the forest.

You start picking your way down the hill, following the stream of luminescent fluid - it glows gold and blue and red and green all at once, making it hard to look at for too long. Slightly sticky to the touch, but otherwise mostly harmless.

As you manage to get to the structures, a chill settles over your skin... you finally get a good look at what exactly they are.

Oh yes, they look indeed like old huts. Stone construction, but where there should have been roofing and doors now lies nothing but rot. A lot of the stone's eroded as well, most likely due to the weather in the Forest like it is now. The luminescent liquid's formed a pool in the center of these structures - perfectly circular, despite the rain and even despite looking flush to the ground.

And speaking of the weather, the rain's starting to pick up even further. Massive drops are beginning to fall through the leaves, and it's sounding like a collection of applause around you instead of just ambient sound.

Before you hear skittering and animalistic grunts just nearby....

While we're waiting, I wanted to put it out there that I was thinking of doing a Quest thread also based on Gaim. I'm asking because I don't want to look like I'm just copying DJ Sagara's idea, even though my plot wouldn't take the same course as his. I asked on twitter earlier, but as I didn't get a response, I figured that now would be a good time to get both the opinion of the audience and the DJ himself.
