Now, this will only be a short thread since I've got to go to work in 4 hours, but I'll still run it.

>writing up the study from last round, you also rolled to get cider, but that was with idea roll, which you'd already used to learn agriculture. One action remaining.

Hiega decides that the lake nearby needed a good look into, and starts wandering its shores every morning. Before long, she has realised, that not only is it a great source of water, but it also contains some very big fish. Big enough to threaten an elf, but also big enough to make a decent meal for an ogre. The lake itself is big, and though you do not have a way to measure it, you know that it is easily big enough to sustain your people. She also notices, that animals often come to the lake to drink, including animals from the forest. This might be a good way to entrap more animals to domesticate.

Also, at the end of this turn, imma give you guys a bonus event, partly because I think it'd be fun to, but mostly to make up for me vanishing last night.
>>
Ah, I guess starting this at 10am UK time makes it a bad time overseas. I won't be able to run this tonight, and I don't know if any of you guys will read this, but if you do, then I'm aiming to run this probably around 7 or 8pm UK time tomorrow.

>>
>>37721738
I was planning to make some Elfs priest of our elven Goddess in the long turn.

Also I wouldn't separate Dancers from the others. Everyone is supposed to Dance. Dance to get better Hunting Results, Dance for Rain, to get better Agriculture. Dance Haka for the fight and so on.

But I'm tired and probably going to break soon...

Also what you want is called a Caste System, and we should get +15 on it...
>>
>>37722896
A caste system only becomes such after positions become hereditary.
What i suggested is specialization of roles.
Also i meant that some Ogres get to be the scribes, priests and dancers at the same time (think bards who are also priests).

I honetly like the way you lead. It doesn't feel like railroading, or at least, it doesn't feel like it's impossible to break the railroads...
>>
>>37724317
Railroading isnt my intention, i know my setting and where you are in it. Still decided exactly when in it you are though. It depends on whether you want humans to ever show up. So yeah, im just seeing what youll do in my setting really, got no iron clad plans for you besides throwing events at you now and then

Four. New rule: study is an optional action per round, and joining it in this category is the new investigate action. You roll a 1d30 to investigate a location on the map. The higher youroll, the more information youll receive, and the more chance youll go unseen whilst doing so. Happy scouting!

Action: Make Sloth Leather Armour for the whole tribe.

Question: Does Mythology actually do something or is it just Fluff? What about Magic? I think in all the other Civ Games, people develop Magic after a while. We also developed weak Healing Magic I think...

Idea: Get an Idea of Channels, to be able to Dig a Channel from the Lake to our Camp, so we can build Wells, and generally Stuff that requires Water...

Togg decides, upon looking over his tribe, that things are too disorganised. He needs to get people working. He decides to give out assignments to people, and make it so certain people specialise in certain things. Soon, the Wartwerk has invented the concept of a job, and their civilisation now has dedicated hunters and scouts, guards, farmers, priests etc. But all of them dance.

>>
>>37743559
The fish respond well to the efforts of Hemm and Togg, and soon, the tribe has a high function fish farm, giving the tribe a surplus of food. The surplus of food leads to a population boom, and your tribe now numbers 200 ogres, and the one cave and the houses aren't enough to house them anymore. Togg considers moving back into the old cave.
>>
Rolled 11 (1d30)

Investigate the Lake: There must be a river somewhere entering and exiting the lake.
>>
>>37743620
Kim chisels away at the cave wall, attempting to recreate the face of Olgruff. She wasn't doing too badly, but it wasn't great either. As she did this, she began to wonder about the design of the cave wall, how to make it look more like a home than a hole, when Togg came in, and berated her for not doing his father the proper justice, and smashes the carving with his hammer. Angry and upset, Kim throws her tools down the hillside, and sits by the cave entrance sulking for the rest of the day.

>>37743650
Your tribe investigates the lake, but they cannot find any sign of a river anywhere. The only thing they found out, is that trying to measure the depth of the lake proved impossible; even using their largest tree as a measuring stick, it did not reach the bottom.

Kim, still upset from her efforts on recreating the visage of the father Olgruff, had wandered far from the tribe. She was the first to see the plumes of smoke rising up from the woods in the south, and she crept forwards, to take a peek through the trees. She saw a small village there, with strange tall creatures, stood about looking over a small lake. She crept past the village, making a note to check it out more thoroughly on the way back. In the lake was an island, covered in huts that were set ablaze. Small figures darted this way and that, their silhouettes reminding Kim of frogs, and amongst the flames and smoke, she saw elves in blood red armour, chasing the figures with weapons drawn. The figures seemed to have weapons made of some kind of shiny rock, that seemed to cause the elves immense pain when struck by it, but the elves were strong and though slower than the silhouettes, they methodically hunted them down. Some elves were stood at the back with torches, setting all traces of civilisation aflame.

Kim quietly retreated, but when she went past the village from before, she saw no sign of the tall horned humanoids.

Togg decided his city needed order, and began drawing up plans on the cave wall. the plans looked good. He was all set to make these plans a reality, when he realised that he was set to build the granary right next to the toilet block, and reconsidered his design. Moving the granary around turned out to mess up all his other plans. He threw a rock at the wall in frustration, destroying his plans.

Togg spent several days without emerging from the cave since then.

>>37744464
Ferth, the eldest woman of the tribe, decided that she wanted to see her birthplace one last time, before dying, and managed to convince a group of ogres to accompany her, and build up the old cave again. Upon reaching it, they found it exactly as they left it.

Weeks later, Togg came to inspect their progress, and there was no sign of Ferth or of her ogres...

>secretly cleanse evil from them, with the cleanse dance as cleansing stuff will be their job anyway, and healing and cleansing is kinda similar
>have safe Elves you can Trust

Inspired nonetheless by Kims attempted craftswork, Togg declared that the main hall of the cave be dedicated to his father. Soon, a temple is crafted, and many come to pay their respects to the man, and the god. Shortly after this, priests become part of the ordeal, and spend most of their days inside the temple. Soon, several tenets become widespread because of this, all food related, as they were secretly based upon Olgruff's cookbook.

1. Do not store food near waste
2. Salted meat lasts longer
3. So does smoked meat
(4 onwards: etc)

Because of this excellent advice, the tribe has a much healthier diet, and as such, disease is down.

Your current population is 300 ogres. Your tribe is now a village.

>>37748347
Old Grunn personally leads several war-trained ogres to retake the old cave. Upon arriving, they find no sign of the previous endeavor there, but instead catch shadows fleeing the scene, from the corners of their eye. They give chase, but finding nothing, return to the cave. Soon, the cave is heavily fortified, and ready for more ogres to return.

Determined to redeem herself, Kim invites herself to an elven dance at Fairth, and though the elves are surprised at her presence there, they seem all but too happy to expose her to more elven culture. She saw many dances there, all performed on a large, raised wooden platform, and though elven dancing often is far too removed from Wartwerks usual style to be incorporated without seeming ridiculous, she picks up many tips to perfect the dances the village already makes use of.

It's the dead of night, and your village sees something bizarre silhouetted against the ever-still stars. From the southern forest, a figure rises from the treeline after a chilling, bestial scream. It looks smaller than an ogre, but horned, with clawed hands and strange, hoofed feet. It's running as quickly as it can, somehow treading nothing but air, yet still rising. Flames erupt around its feet, and its hoofs burn away, leaving nothing but stumps. Its running motions become faster and faster, until it's just a blur. Eventually, it crashes to the ground, not far from your village.

It has the head of a feral elk with jagged teeth and sharp antlers, its humanoid legs end in blackened, burnt stumps.

An average of seven, but bonuses for supporting rolls beef that up to about ten ish.

Many of your people panic, but Togg manages to keep the warriors calm. Many ogres are ready to fight, but many of them are also terrified by the corrupted creature before them, stalking out of the trees.

The creature suddenly grabs hold of one of the ogres that had fell into panic, and runs into the air with her, disappearing into the night. The villagers look around frantically, but find no sign of Kim of the creature. They had vanished, but Togg is certain that the threat is not ended. He is proven right when it appears again, stalking Togg from on top of Olgruff's old home. It emitts a loud howl. Roll 1d300.

This is... also not great. 96 of your troops are unnerved, but still capable of fighting (the panicked troops can be rallied, but the cowering ones need to wait it out, unfortunately Togg was one of them).

Luckily though, Grunn was not in either of these situations. He is one of the 16 lucky ogres to escape the fear effect. He stands ready, but your forces are scattered, your tribe leader cowering. And Grunn isn't as young as he used to be.

The wendigo begins to emmit a strange noise, like a juttering scraping of crystal on glass. Strange green energies swirl around Togg, centering on his head.

Grunn surveys the scene. Ogres running left right and center. A cackling mad were-beast upon the lords old house, Ogres exchanging worried, doubt-filled glances. He remembers Olgruff, standing defiant against the Jhirahk in his youth, and lights a great torch, holds it up, and yells as loudly as he can muster.

"Who wins the fight!?"

Many ogres turn their heads, seeing Grunn's great shadow flickering across the village in the light of his torch. The Ogres who still retain all their senses, grab their weapons, and with hesitation at first, but less later, clash them together to make a steady beat.

"WHO WINS THE FIGHT?" Grunn yells louder.

"It is death! It is death!" The ogres respond in chant, clashing their weapons together and stamping their feet in unison, and some of the Ogres who had previously been unsettled, begin to shake off the fear, and begin to join.

"It is death! It is death!"

Grunn looks at the wendigo as it hisses in the night, and setting the end of his tree-axe ablaze, he raises his weapon high.

"This is the hairy man" he starts, waiting expectantly for the rest of the village to chime in.

"Who will butcher you! Butcher you!"

More respond now, and with much greater fervour. The dance gets more and more extravagant, as more and more ogres join.

"These are the hairy men," Grunn yells, the ogre to his right, now wielding Grunn's torch, uses it to point at the performing ogres in a wide arc.

"Who will butcher you! Butcher you!"

The words are repeated twice, before the haka comes to a close.

"The stars shine!" Grunn yells, and now, eighty-five ogres reply.

"Upon victory! Victory!"

"And to the nightmare's doom!" He yells, readying his weapon to charge.

The beast itself seems totally unaffected by the wardance, but it had a good effect on rallying your people.

The stars shine brightly behind the wendigo, giving it a menacing silhouette. The smell of decay that comes off it is enough to make even an ogres stomach lurch. The energies coming from it, flow straight into Togg, who begins screaming, grasping at imaginary phantoms. As he writhes around, panicked, the ground trembles.

Eighty five ogres, all equipped with mighty axes and clubs, charge. The stampede sounds like thunder, and as they charge, they chant "Butcher you!" repeatedly, in time to the footsteps.

The wendigo hisses, and leaps out to counter attack, but Grunn, at the front of the charge, readies his mighty axe, and roars, as he stabs at the shadowy beast, impaling it with the tip of his axe, then swinging around, and slamming it into the ground, leaving a vertical gaping wound upon it's body. When it lands, all the other ogres crowd around it, doing their best to subdue the beast. Their smackdown of the nightmare in flesh, rouses those panicked ogres from their dismay, and they rally, instantly, and soon, you have 159 more ogres joining the fray.

The beast is not finished yet, however, it still has a trick up it's metaphorical sleeve.

The wendigo reaches out, and tries to grapple Grunn. Grunn senses a kind of weird magical 'tugging' from it as it tries, and backs off, roaring angrily. The wendigo, in panick, starts to run. Up into the sky.

>>37752364
But too late, for Grunn swings his axe down with a blow so mighty, that he swats it out of the air, smashes it into the ground, and splits the very rock beneath it's now motionless corpse.

"WHO WINS THE FIGHT?!" Grunn screams.

"It is death! It is death!" The people replied, in chorus.

>New deity obtained
>Grunn, the incarnation of death

The people dance, celebrating their victory.

"Wartwerk march to victory
Wartwerk staunch and true
Wartwerk march to glory
Take the honour of your people with you
You will march, march, march to the enemy
And will fight right to the end
For Gods, for Lords and People,
You will march, march, march to the enemy
And the enemy will give in!"

>Victory dance and song acquired.

In the aftermath of the fight, Kim returns, disheveled and distressed, but otherwise none the worse for wear. Togg, on the other hand, is another matter. He see's ghosts and phantoms in his sleep, and he cannot rest peacefully. He isn't as young as he once was, and many tribesmen now worry that the shock to his system has caused him to fall into senility.

But for now, his people dance, for none died at the hands of the nightmare.

>cut off the Meat from him
>invite the Elves to celebrate with us
>make a feat out of the wendigo Meat

>Celebrate and Dance

Than on the next Action, we're going to take the Wendigo Head on a Pole and show it to the Lizards.
>>
>>37753017
Agreed.
>>
>>37752900
The Wendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulls tautly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Wendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and bloody. It is unclean and suffering from suppurations of the flesh, the Wendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption. It's physical appearance is best described as looking as if an elk suffered from some form of lycanthropy, being humanoid in form, viciously toothed and clawed, but looking somewhat awkward in it's physiology. The tribes mages, though not experts, say that there is some sort of undeath at work, and there was a powerful curse at place in it's flesh, and that a study of the now dead brain, reveals that it had in fact housed a kind of malevolent spirit within its form.

Kim, upon seeing the creature again, remarks on how the strange horned creatures she had seen in the village to the south had looked just like this, but less.... dead.

A study of its horrific maw had revealed remnants of flesh incredibly similar to its own, but the mages say that this flesh, although still under the effect of a powerful curse, was not undead, it was in fact, very much alive when this beast had consumed it. They surmise that the beast was cannibalistic.
>>
>>37753173
That sounds like we really shouldn't eat it, or we just need a really good cook.
>>
>>37753006
As Togg in his current state is unable to lead the village, Grunn, having earned reverence from the people, decided to play off their own reverence of him, to encourage the rest of the tribe to great feats. He spoke to them about how he 'felt the divinity claim him' at the moment when he killed the nightmare, and that he was filled with new purpose. He knew death, and he was death, and he knows that all die in the end, but he spoke to the tribe, and told stories, of how those who prove themselves in this life, shall too, claim divinity.

The tribe eat up his words, and soon, the concept becomes a core part of the mythology of the Wartwerk tribe, inspiring ogres to great feats for a shot at godhood.
>>
>>37753173
Well, it seems we can't eat it. Let's get rid of the body, and bury it far away.
Now, we get our best war faces and war paints, take the head to the lizard boys!
>>
>>37753363
What if, instead of burying it, we build a catapult, and shoot it's body into the Lizard Camp?
>>
>>37753394

>>37754392
I'm not sure trying to intimidate them would be good just yet, not until we know what was going on. We know they mentioned wendigo, but that's all we know, how do we know how they'll react to this? Also, what about what kim said about the wendigo, she saw more like it to the south but not 'dead'? Does that mean not killed dead like the one we killed, or not undead? If we look into that we could find out more about this potentially before we do something like trying to intimidate the lizards, it might be helpful.
>>
>>37754667
Kim says that the ones she saw looked alive, and the one that attacked was different in that it was specifically undead looking.
>>
>>37754667
Ok, a better plan: We scare the LIzards to death and enslave them, and let them fight against each other like Pokemon!
>>
>>37754731
That might actually be worth looking into. the post killing exam indicated it was a cannibal. It was likely feeding on the other wendigos that were alive. Hell given how things went at the old cave we might find the lost ogres there or at least learn of their fate for sure.

I'm totally down for ogre search party.

We make ball shaped hollow rocks that split open when thrown.
>>
>>37754731

>>
>>37755036
No, she went past a village of living wendigos, but saw some kind of frog-like people being killed on an island in a lake just beyond their village. On the way back to her tribe, Kim didn't see any wendigo in the village, though that doesn't necessarily mean there was none there, she just did not see any.
>>

That'd be bullywugs who were getting genocided then. Wonder what they did to piss off the elves you'd think knife ears and beastfolk would get along great.

Rolled 4 (1d20)

Your healers spend a long time looking after Togg. After half a week, he comes out. He's okay.

The healers reveal that during their time looking after him, they realised a few things.

1. These nightmares he was suffering was most certainly induced via magic.
2. As time went on, his mind began to deteriorate, if it wasn't for the healers there to bolster his mental functions with magic, he would have suffered a terrible fate because...
3. They realised that a terrible spirit was lurking nearby, watching him, like a vulture. They realised, that it was waiting for something, some kind of specific conditions to be met. Togg's mental state deteriorating would have left him vulnerable, and he could possibly have been 'inhabited' by the spirit, had he gone too far in. Luckily, after a few days of this, the spirit seems to leave, and Togg's mental state began to improve, the phantasms disappearing, and he could sleep soundly again.
4. The thing that worried your healers, was that every time his mind began to lapse, he tried to bite them, he had obtained a thirst for ogre flesh.
5. A magic analysis of him, revealed that a curse was lingering, trying to take hold of him.
>>
>>37755841
Oh God, a Ogre Chief as a Wendigo, that'd be fucking scary.
We should try to come up with some kind of warding dance as a ritual.
>>
>>37755841
Everything seemed good, until dusk. A scream came from the village, and when Togg came to investigate, he found one of the ogres dead on the ground. It's chest was ripped open, and there were bite marks covering it, made by ogre teeth. The healers were called.

Later, it is discovered that Kim is missing.

~

Somewhere, deep in the forest, driven mad by the spirit forcing its way inside her, Kim runs, and runs and runs. Her feet burn with pain, but the spirit forces her to run, and run, and run, faster than an ogre is capable of. Her feet burn into bloody stumps, and with a scream, she begins to run up at an angle, into the night sky, her body twisting into that of a Wendigo.

>I don't usually delve into the horrific stuff that often, but damnit if I don't absolutely love going full dark with some things. Hope I never get sadistic enough to throw a Wayward Soul your way.
>Or that the civ lasts long enough that we go through 1000 years of human history so that you guys can witness what happens when wizards accidentally see a 4 dimensional creature in 4 dimensional space when they glimpse it through the eternity gate
>Or when said 4 dimensional creature is forced into this dimension
>Or demons in general
>And a hundred years into human stuff, don't visit any towers.
>In fact, you just really shouldn't trust me. Just be careful, I'll try not to be too sadistic.

Honestly, I love the way you DM and I'm really enjoying this game for the last X Days and kinda excited to see more.

Personally, I also have no problem with *FUN* as long as it's awesome. An Awesome Game Over is as good, if not better than any Victory...

It's pretty fun.
It seems like some of the silly gloves are coming off and things are getting serious.

tbh, I like the silly things. But the problem is, it sometimes feels like it's hindering, if f.e. there is a fire again, you can't do mythology/cultural stuff.

(I still want to create the Ogre-Elven cultural Empire as my main goal)
