You’re standing in a luxuriously furnished office with an 8ft-tall hulking demon that just introduced himself as Garrax and claimed to be one of the Reunited.

You were out dancing with Kae and Quinn had just told you of a plan by the vampires and fae to force all dusters to either be feeders for vampires or the fae, claiming they’d be farmed like animals.

Kae hasn’t mentioned such a plan to you so you hope Quinn is lying. Still that’s a concern for later, right now you have one of the Reunited to deal with. Since the whole deal is that only one of you gets to survive at the end of this insane war for survival this is going to be a battle to the death.

You tense, ready to summon a gun or teleport when Garrax holds up a hand and rumbles in a voice too deep to be human “Wait, I don’t want to fight.”

“Oh yeah” you say, this is a pretty big room, you have plenty of room in here to dodge and teleport. You’ve fought in tighter corners than this before. But this is his territory it could have traps, plus the security guards for the club could be called up here at the push of a button.

“Yes” says Garrax “Why don’t you show me your true form?”

“Why would I do that?” you ask, watching him for any aggressive move.
>>
“So that your allegiance is plain” says Garrax “to be blunt: I propose an alliance between us, but I’ll not treat with any champion of the Lord of Betrayal.”

Well, that kinda makes sense.

“Alright” you say “I’m listening” you don’t relax though, instead you’re ready to teleport or attack if he makes any wrong move.

Garrax smiles, or at least, you think he’s smiling, there’s a lot of tooth in that smile. “Excellent” he says “Now I don’t know how much you know about what we are, but the Five seem to want us to kill each other in pointless struggles. I object to being their pawn, and I want there to be an end to this. To that end I propose an alliance of the Reunited that will put to the Five that we will not be their pawns, though individual members may petition them for favours, the whole of our alliance will not turn upon one another.”

“So what” you say “A trade union of Reunited?”

“Of sorts” he says “Yes”

“And how’s that going?” you ask

“Slowly” he says “Though a few are amenable to it, no one seems to want to commit.”

“And what about those who won’t join?” you ask “They’ll get the hatchet?”

Garrax frowns “No one will be forced to join” he says “or killed for not joining, but the terms of the agreement include a mutual defence pact: That we will aid one another. So if someone wishes to play by the Fives rules and keeps attacking members, then yes, they will die.”

You get the feeling that’s not the whole story, indeed this whole deal feels suspect somehow.

“I’ll want to know more before I agree to anything.” You say “Like-”

“Ah” says Garrax, cutting you off “As I said, the champion of Baalzamon will not be invited, please show me your true form before we discuss anything further.”

“How do I know it’s not you?” you ask “You could be Baalzamons chosen.”

Garrax laughs “Before I hit upon this idea” he says “As you can see, I clearly followed the King of Hell.”

What do you do?

>>37610023
Don't ask him, there is pretty much no "prove" he could give that he couldn't fake, and I'm wondering if he doesn't know he can have more gifts. If thats the case, I don't want to tip him of.
>>
>>37610008
>Talk more about this alliance
>Tentacles
I'm torn, on the one hand, revealing us as Ichors "champion", gives him a pretty good idea of our genuine motivation.
On the other hand, revealing favoring the King, could make us competition for leadership in this alliance.
If he really is the Champion of the King of Hell, then he can't help but have to try to make us subordinate.
>>
>>37610008
Hmm...showing Shee's ichor will make her attractive. Ichor is the overprotective mother, so Shee would be great for the defense pact thing, expect a lot of calls to go help others.

Showing the crown would probably focus on her fellowship prowess, though. Make it obvious shes trustworthy.
>>
>>37610069
>so Shee would be great for the defense pact thing, expect a lot of calls to go help others
Ichor is most of all a very possessive deity, I don't think those familiar with her would be very comfortable relying on her Champion.
Especially considering all the emotion influencing abilities she gives out.
>>
>>37610008
I have the strong feeling he doesn't want the champion of Baalzamon around because he would be the most likely to see through his bullshit, and possibly realise he is also a champion of Baalzamon.
>>
“Alright” you say and concentrate, four tentacles slide out of your sleeves or from under your top, a jacket or blouse with a back that pops off would make this a lot more comfortable you think.

Once out you wave your tentacles in front of Garrax, he nods “A devotee of the Mother I see” he says “I think we can work together.”

You carefully draw your tentacles back in “So about this alliance” you say “how many are there involved, how many other Reunited have you found?”

“There’s three in this city I’m in talks with” says Garrax, pouring himself a drink, though he doesn’t offer you one “And a further six in other Hives that I’m aware of. I want to form the alliance with as many as I can before reaching further, I believe that the more I have in this alliance, the more likely other members will be to join.”

“So no one has joined yet?” you ask.

“Regrettably no” he admits “The usual reasons, mostly they think it’s a trap of some kind, though there is one who I believe I’m close to coming to an agreement with, he’s just being...cautious.”

“Go on” you say.

“A self-taught chaos mage by the name Tom Davis, though he calls himself the Unseen Sorcerer” explains Garrax “He lives on Level 3 and mainly follows the Infinite Mirror. He has agreed to join me as long as we both agree to never attack one another unless in self-defence. He demanded that the agreement be magically enforced. I have, at some expense, secured the services of an outlaw chaos mage calling himself Xanthian. I believe Tom knows him and will trust him enough to agree to the oath.”

“And the others?” you ask

“All in good time” he says genially “Rather than take my word for what I’m doing, I was wondering if you might like to talk to Tom yourself, and if you’d be so kind as to pass on the message about Xanthian and tell Tom that I am willing to agree to his terms, though I cannot speak for future members of the alliance of course.”
>>
Again, you have the feeling he’s not telling you everything.

Adding

>>
He's the King's follower. He clearly benefits from this with more favor from the King.
>>
>>37610280
For all we know he might be mainly following Baalzamon.
Clearly he gets 'some' favor from this, but depending on his angle, it might not mainly be from the King.
>>
>>37610288
Well, the club is a strong indicator of him being the King.

Shadowruns are good in certain measures, but please don't blow it out of proportion.
>>
>>37610309
>the club is a strong indicator of him being the King
No? Assuming the club is from the King, it just means he got at least 2 gifts from him.
Which is as much as we got from the Mirror.
>>
>>37610309
I think you are bit very naive here anon.
He gets gifts from all gods just like we do, him showing two King gifts, doesn't mean he follows mainly the King.
We could have had a eyeball from Mirror by now too. That doesn't mean shit, and the fact that he tries to pretend it does for some reason is more than suspicious.
>>
>>37610314
The club wasn't offered for the second gift, though, so there is definetly some commitment to the King there. This whole scheme smells of King favor as well.

>>37610325
I think you're being too paranoid instead and seeing trees having epilleptic attacks. So far your reason for him to be a Baalzamon follower is "He could be one!".
>>
“First” you say “How did you find me?”

Garraxs smile fades a little “Before, when I was still intent upon winning through any means” he says “one of the first things I did was petition the King of Hell for a Gift to allow me to sense other Reunited. It’s not perfect, it works better up close, but in my club, my domain, its very strong. I knew who you were the moment you walked in the door. I had my security intercede when it looked like you might be leaving.”

So he probably saw everything on security cameras.

“I want to know about the other Reunited you’ve found first” you say “before I decide.”

“I suppose I can tell you about them” says Garrax “though not their names or locations, in case you’re thinking of hunting them down. Of the two others in the Hive, one is a devotee of Jagganatha and is a street fighter, he’s big, tough and brutal, but also smart, can think his way through a fight.”

“Another walks a very dangerous path: He’s an officer in the police, commands a squad of elite cops that get called in to very dangerous situations: kidnappings, bomb threats and so on. He has been very...cagey with me, but I believe he mainly follows the King of Hell. He also has a lot of contact with Fae, so he is good at hiding what he is.”

“And the others?” you ask

“I’m not sure of” he says “I’ve not gotten close to them so I can’t be sure they are Reunited or just ordinary followers of the Five who have been granted a few Gifts.”

“How does this end?” you ask “I mean we can't exactly stick around forever on the cusp of godhood, someone is going to be tempted to take the offer.”
>>
>>37610360
>The club wasn't offered for the second gift
The three gifts we get are random from a list, we could have gotten the club as first gift if it would have been picked for the three offers.
And thats assuming the Club is actually from the King.
> So far your reason for him to be a Baalzamon follower is "He could be one!".
No one says he is one, we say, he might be one for all we know. Because thats the case, we have exactly zero prove he follows mainly the King.
And this scheme might as well be a Baalzamon thing of playing us against eachother. And there is nothing stopping him from racking up a bit King favor while still mainly favoring Baalzamon.
>>
Garrax laughs “Yes that would be awkward” he says “Once all of the Reunited are in the alliance, as a whole we present the Five with an offer: We will compete as long as the competition is nonlethal, and that the winner agrees not to kill the others – and for the Five to agree to enforce this last clause. I have no illusions that we can fully stymie the Five, but I like living, and I’m betting the others do too. So, now that you know, what do you say?”

What do you say?
>No (leave)

>I will think about it, you must admit, it sounds all very suspicious. I will talk to Tom myself and then we'll see. I know where I can find you.
It all sounds very convenient and vague.
But we can look up the other three first.
>>
>>37610388
>We will compete as long as the competition is nonlethal, and that the winner agrees not to kill the others
Hahaha bullshit.
The Five already told us we don't actually need to kill the others, just subjugate them.
Which is exactly what this guy is doing. The moment his "alliance" has united all of us, he wins by having brought us under his "command".
>>
“I will think about it” you say “you must admit, it sounds all very suspicious.”

“True” chuckles Garrax

“I will talk to Tom myself and then we'll see.” You continue “I know where I can find you.”

“Of course” says Garrax “You can find Tom Davis on Level 3 in the Northern Quarter. He has an abandoned warehouse there that he uses as a place of business – selling minor spells to the people who live nearby. If you ask around for the Unseen Sorcerer someone will be able to lead you to him. Please tell him I’m ready to agree to his terms and that Xanthian will cast the spell.”

“I’ll be in touch” you say vaguely and then leave. Outside the security guard escorts you respectfully back to the main dance floor.

Kae, Quinn and Quinns posse are their dancing. As you rejoin them Kae asks “Trouble?”

“Nothing I couldn’t handle” you say, wondering what to do about...everything.

You spend the rest of the night just dancing with Kae and the others. You end up visiting four clubs in total. Quinn and his buddies are well behaved: none of them try to bite you and only one tries to grope you, Janice you think her name was. When you and Kae get a moment on the dance floor you embrace her and say into her ear “We need to talk, how soon can you visit my dreams again?”

“Tonight?” she offers

“Sure” you say.

Finally though it’s late, and you need to go. You’re exhausted from all the dancing, but also relaxed. Quinns posse are actually fairly fun to hang around with, when they’re trying to be nice. They bought you drinks, let you pick the clubs, and Simon and Steve beat the hell out of three strange guys who thought that because you admitted you lived in Dust Town, that you would suck them off for cash.

You get back to your shack long after everyone has gone to sleep. On your bed is a note *Lirael is at mine tonight. Rainya* Oh that’s good, you strip off your clothes, wrap yourself up in your dirty blankets and just...relax...

You look around you, all you can see is sand, you’re stuck in a desert, oh no, wait. This is a dream. You turn, looking around.

“Hi Shee” says a voice, you spin around “Kae” you say in relief “You startled me.”

Kae appears to be wearing the same expensive-looking clothes she has had on all evening and looks around the desert critically.

“Been worrying about Geheganesh?” she asks

“A little” you admit “The thought that there could be-”

“Not here” says Kae “It’s only an image of him, but it could still attract his attention.”

Everything around you blurs and you’re in the Hive, looking around at the palatial houses, somewhere really high up in the Hive.

“So what did you want to talk about?” asks Kae “You got any good info from Quinn, and why’d that one guy Ashley run off?”

“All sorts of things” You say “First off, the owner of Club Marakis is one of the Reunited, you’ll probably want to avoid it in future.”

“Yeah” agrees Kae “Who knows what could happen, so...?”

“What?” says Kae, seeming genuinely shocked “No” she shakes her head “Becoming a dreamer or a feeder has always been a voluntary thing, I can’t believe he told you that, that’s a lie.”

She seems to be telling the truth.

“So what do you think he’s on about?” you ask.

Kae pauses then says “There wouldn’t be a global plan without my father knowing” she sounds certain “and he’d tell me, but maybe the local Hive Governor is working something out with the vamps, I am not sure, I’ll have to do a little digging.”

“Let me know what you find out” you say.

“Sure” says Kae “Now about that Ashley guy....?”

“He’s a friend” you say “Quinn is, I dunno, playing games with him, and he wanted me to tell Ash I’d never be his feeder again, or his lover ever before Quinn would tell me anything. That’s why he stormed out, I need to talk to him and fix things.”

“And were you?” asks Kae “His feeder?”

“Once” you say “When we we’re just kids, everything is different now.”

“So you weren’t doing anything but telling him the truth” reasons Kae “He’ll be better off once he calms down.”

Yeah, hopefully.

“Yes” says Kae, drawing the word out and looking away “I can see how they might do that. Alright, thanks for telling me, we’ll be on our guard.”

Wait, we?

“Are you going?” you ask

“Yeah” says Kae “me and a few others, we just want to get away from politics and family pressures for a while and relax. I’ll make sure that there are some guards nearby on call or maybe I’ll order some police units into the area on training manoeuvres or something, thanks for telling me.”

Ah. Now you either need her not to be there, or get Charun to call it off, this could get difficult. To buy yourself time to think, you try a different topic.

“How do fae feed on dreams?” you ask Kae.

Kae gives you a cool look “It’s fairly simple” she says “We visit them in their dreams, sometimes without them knowing, and show them highly emotional events, some real, some not. The emotion lets us draw off a little of their...well lets call it latent magical energy, everyone has some. Is that enough for you?” That doesn’t seem like a comfortable topic for her.

What do you say?

Could it be that Charun *wants* to provoke Fae into a retributive attack in order to attract more cannonfodder into the rebellion?
>>
>>37610995
Maybe he knows Kae will be there and wants specifically her captured for ransom.
>>
>>37610995
Possible, although I find it currently more plausible that Charun is being controlled by vampires using the rebellion.
>>
>>37610995
I'm more worried about Six being an idiot and doing it anyways. Charun's smart he know if that vamp's looking for a pretext would wreck our shit if they are ready for it.

>>37611015
We need to Gestalt with Lirael and see then.
>>
>>37610995
I still think he's the tool of a fae or vampire looking to take out its political opposition. The Rebellion is just the tool if some other power.
>>
>>37611036
>Charun's smart
I hope you're right.
>>
>>37611043
I think its most likely only the vampires, they are the only ones benefitting from stuff like that broadcast.
Undermining the fae works out for them, because the weaker the fae are, the more they need the vampires and are willing to give in to their demands, like that "enslave all dusters" plan, which the fae apparently wouldn't profit from.
>>
>>37611044

>>
>>37611061

That broadcast also condemned vampires and showed their atrocities too. I don't think the rebellion is the tool of one race or another, but an individual of one of those races using it as a political tool. I don't think these guys are nearly as collectivist or threatened to be concerned about the overall welfare of their respective races, given their complete dominance.
>>
>>37611102
True, but he's s experienced and cunning, something Six isn't. He's also old by duster standards, yet still fit enough to fight. I'm willing to bet he's got powers like dad did.
>>
>>37611107
>That broadcast also condemned vampires and showed their atrocities too
Sure, but any rift between fae and mortals, still benefits the vampires.
The vampires don't need to be liked by the masses, they just need the fae to need them.
So if humans rise up against the fae/vampire it helps the vampire.
I have no doubt that some fae are very much questioning how useful the vampires are to them.
>>
“I’d like to know a little more than that” you say “please.”

Kae rolls her eyes “Look when people dream they connect to another reality, we call it Oneira, the world of Dreams. We draw our powers from it, and so we feed on people when they’re connected to it.”

“I’ve seen the dream eaten” you say “People wandering around not knowing where they are, laughing at things that no one can see, not recognising their own families.”

“It’s not...harmless” admits Kae “No, but it takes years of daily feeding before someone is that bad, if someone was only fed on every few days, they wouldn’t suffer any side effects, I’m told” she clarifies, then says sharply “and unlike vampires we don’t risk killing our dreamers by taking too much, think about that before you start trying to make me feel guilty, Shee.”

“I wasn’t trying to make you feel guilty” you say “I just, I didn’t know how it works.”

“Oh” says Kae, calming a little “Well uh, emotions flavour the feeding I guess you could say, and some have a close enough connection with their dreamers that they can feed off them whilst awake, just using daydreams. Some” she looks a little dubious about this “Even have kids with their dreamers but half-fey, I mean, poor them, but no one likes them. The fae families see them as pretenders and most regular folk can’t tell fae from half-fey.”

“Thank you for telling me” you say in a conciliatory manner, then you say “This might seem a bit strange, but you said about ordering the police around: how much authority do you have over them? I mean, if you wanted to, could you find out about a particular person?”
>>
Kae gives you a suspicious look “Officially they have to follow any order I give” she says “force deployments, files, evidence, I can get any of it, but any request I make will be on the Hive Governors desk in minutes, to give him a chance to hide things. I do know that the police are under a lot of pressure to find the rebels who did the broadcast, I hear there’s a task force being put together just for that.”

Moving on...

“Well if you have some police or guards nearby when you go” you say “You should be fine.”

You head over to pick up Lirael and Rainya, they are both awake and dressed by the time you get there.

“How’s my two best girls?” you ask in greeting as you open the door.

“Shee!” says Lirael, running to hug you.

“Hi Shee” says Rainya with a big smile “How was last night?”

“Interesting” you say “C’mon” You all head over to Charuns and you tell them both about what happened last night. You also tell them both about the planned mission, and how important it is to call it off.

At Charuns you have to knock several times before he opens the door a crack “What?” asks Charun, looking rough.

“We need to talk to you” you say

“Gimme minute” he growls “Getting dressed.”

Once Charun is ready, he lets the three of you into his shack “Ah Rainya” he says “So Shee has told you.”

Rainya nods and you say “Charun we can’t do this mission, we need to call it off.”

Charun squints at you with his single eye “Why?” he asks.

“There will be reprisals if young Fae are killed” you say “A lot of people could die.”

“A lot of people are already dying” answers Charun “This will send a message to the Fae, scare them.”

“But-” You start

“No buts” says Charun “This is a good opportunity, we’re doing this.”

>This is part of a larger vamp plan (tell Charun vamp plan)
I was out with a friend at a club. I heard two vampires talking about it, and how it was sure to work because
>Reapers daughter will be there (keep connection to Kae secret)

We do this they'll slaughter us all wholesale for their reprisal. We are not ready for this. We'd be waking a sleeping dragon after we stole from it's hoard. Win or lose we'd be screwed in the aftermath.
>>

Yes, because obviously random vampires would talk about this secret plan in some random club.
Makes sense.

Ok. We were robbing a club and came across their electronic correspondence because the sysadmin was a retard who kept his password on a post-it note on the holoprojector.

“This is part of someone elses plan” you say.

“What?” asks Charun. You lay out the plan Quinn told you, about the Dusters being used, about how this could be an excuse.

“So what, we just roll over for them?” asks Charun “No, if anything that should make us fight harder.” He chews on his lip for a moment and then says “Look Shee, I’m not sure what your, ah, boyfriend told you, but if you could get any proof of this, a recording, a written plan, anything that we can use to rally Dusters behind, that would be big, really big, we could use that and we wouldn’t need to...do this mission” Charun finishes lamely, mindful of Lirael being present.

“I’m not sure I can get that for you” you say. For starters, Quinn probably doesn’t have access to any real proof, if such exists, and you don’t want to go near him if you can avoid it.

Ok, time to play your biggest gambit “I also heard” you tell Charun “That the group of kids going into the desert includes Kaelyn Reaper, who is-”

“Reapers daughter” finished Charun. He’s silent for a time, then turns to Rainya and Lirael “Would you wait outside, Shee and I need to talk about this privately.”

“We’ll be close” says Rainya as she steps outside.

-Real close- says Liraels voice in your head.

Once they’re gone, Charun starts pacing in his shack “Reapers daughter” he says, savouring it “That old bastards daughter, well, this is it Shee, this is it!”

“What?” you ask “You don’t mean you want to kill her do you? That’s more trouble than we can handle.”

“Her no” says Charun “I don’t care about her, but she’ll bring him to me, and I’ll get a chance, I’ll finally get my chance.” One hand goes to his face and caresses his ruined eyesocket.

He turns to you “Alright Shee, thank you for this, now I need to go. In order to kill the Reaper, we’ll need an army, that’s going to need to be assembled. I’m in your debt.” He heads towards the door.

>>37612388

And Dev, can't let him get killed.

I am not sure, but I think we want change, but not a full purge like a lot of rebels do.

The rebellion is nice, but it is obvious they are using the wrong tool. It seems more about making them pay then getting freedom, or even improving the life of dusters.
>>
>>37612404
Kae doesn't want it either. If we warn her I bet she can pull some weight around to make it impossible for them to attack, or if that's impossible cancel the trip. We don't need to let the attack happen and fail.

Yeah I don't really care about Dev. He can go ahead and die. All he does it pilot a suit we built for him. We could just do that ourselves.

Thats the exact opposite of what that post said.
What I said there was we could use the suit, but we have far better options that are mutually exclusive with using the mech.
Dev is as useful as any other of our allies.
>>
>>37612532
And? If you're going to kill off all the characters who aren't better than you at least one thing, the fae and vamps would have wiped out humanity a long time ago. He's our friend and he can watch our backs.
>>
>>37612503
>>37612532

Having more people who can easily free us from jobs and spending xp in a direction is a good thing. We can't specialize in everything and having allies who can do stuff to free our actions is good.

Besides, sometimes you need some muscle. Or at least some that looks like it too. Even if Lirael is way stronger the he is.

The suite can do a lot
>>
>>37612565
That's not true at all. How long do you think it would take to teach Rainya to pilot the suit with a clone? At least >>37612566 admits that he's really only good for keeping an eye out.
>>
>>37612606
>How long do you think it would take to teach Rainya to pilot the suit with a clone?
Then she wouldn't be free to do things she is way better at.
We only get so much XP, and while Rainya could in theory do that too, its good that she doesn't have to because she is far more useful in other areas.
Someone needs to pilot that mech, because its a good weapon, but everyone except Dev got something else to do which is better for them than using it, so thats Devs niche, which he fills well.
>>
>>37612628
Substitute Raiyna with anyone then. Dev's easily replaceable if he doesn't want to come with us, or if he's too much trouble to get out.
>>
>>37612606
Watching our backs in life and in combat anon. He might be a grunt but he's no coward, Besides limiting Rainya, Lirael, or Shee with a mech is dumb. Dev is the best fir for it. it was made to help baseline human compete with Fae and vamps after all.

Upset or not, Charun does not get to hit you and get away with it. With a snarl you twitch and four tentacles explode out of your back, ripping through the back of your clothes.

Charun barely has time to realise what’s going on before you’ve got all four wrapped around him, restraining him and pinning him to the floor.

-Lirael- you say in your mind –Can you come in here, and ask Rainya to guard the door-

-Sure- responds Lirael. A moment later she’s slipping in the door, her eyes widen as she sees Charun pinned to the floor, cursing at you and struggling. As strong as you now are, he doesn’t have much of a chance.

-Lirael- you say in your head –We need to change his mind-

-Take his memories?- Asks Lirael

-Maybe- you say –But maybe more-

There’s a pause. Charun narrows his eyes, looking back and forth between the two of you.

-But that’s bad- protests Lirael –You shouldn’t-

-If we don’t- you say –A lot of people could die, please Lirael-

-His mind is scary!- Lirael responds

-We’ll do it together- you say –You don’t have to be afraid, I’m with you-

-Ok...- says Lirael dubiously, and then the two of you concentrate and....

...become one.

Shee/Lirael looks down at its constituent bodies, and down at Charun pinned to the floor. Huh, maybe you should pick a name, as you are more than just the sum of your parts, whatever, that can wait.

You prepare to dive down into Charuns mind, despite how bad it felt the last time you, no not you, the last time Lirael did it.

As you do, you suddenly see electricity dancing around Charun, coursing over your (?) tentacles, one of your bodies thrashes in pain and you almost cease to exist. Despite being driven to her knees, the part of you that is Shee keeps hold of Charun as he thrashes in her somewhat weakened grasp, pinning him down.

You dive downwards and into his mind.
>>
>>37612669
A bit more in shape and less of a slob, but yeah I see it. Especially once we upgrade it.

>>37612677
Sorry call em as I see em.
>>
Charuns mind is layed and complex. You see his memories, his motivations, everything about him, it’s all here. But there’s something strange about his mind. He feels...confident, as if he knows you can’t hurt him. But searching his memories, his thoughts, there’s nothing that would...no wait, he has a number of weapons on him, he just shocked you with one.

But he has a special one in a back holster, one with bullets that...that do something to mages, psychics, anyone with powers. Even as you try to examine these memories they fade, and you feel bands around you, trying to crush you.

Charun doesn’t seem like a telepath or mage, but there’s something in here trying to hurt you.

What do you do?

>Fight off this thing first
>Alter Charuns mind first, then get out

Either way, options for what you do in his head in next post.

You struggle against the bands wrapping around you, crushing you. As it tries to eject you, you search through Charuns mind for where this thing is. It tugs and pulls at you, trying to drive you out. Where could it be...there! Someone put some sort of telepathic defence in Charuns mind, you grab it and rip it out, shredding the horrible thing. Finally you are free to work.

[Psychic Energy/Vitae 41]

Charuns mind is complex and cluttered with a lot of memories, many of them unpleasant. It’s also now undefended against you, maybe. The active defence is gone, but there could be all sorts of tripwires and traps in his memories or other parts of his mind that could hurt you, or maybe him.

What is the plan?

Altering Charuns Mind

>Make him call off the mission (-10, takes 10 minutes)
>Make him stop hating Reaper (-15, takes an hour)

>Other (what?)

>>
You start with the recent stuff, wiping away what just happened, that’s easy, the memories have barely settled.

Then you go to work on the mission. Charun hates the fae, he wants captives to interrogate and ransom, killing a few young fae would be a bonus. You focus on the risk involved, the threats they could face, a bunch of young fae of alone? Of course they’ll have guards with them, hidden nearby probably. Charuns mind is suspicious enough to accept that as a good enough reason not to go.

And the other Dusters, they’d get hurt in reprisals, Charuns mind rejects this, he barely cares about the other dusters. Then...it switches suddenly, Charuns mind accepts this as a good reason, not because he cares, but because he promised...someone. You catch a glimpse of a towering demonic figure with large wings, the King of Hell maybe? No wait, from Charuns memories that’s what your father looked like the day he...

You delve further into Churns mind, searching for information about the rebellion, about your father. Yes, there it is, every secret he’s been keeping from you, every precious memory of your father, it’s yours n-

Charuns mind...convulses and trembles and then it feels like it’s coming apart. You’re falling, no he’s falling and he’s dragging you down with him!

You scramble for any information you can get whilst extricating yourself from Charuns mind, but you only fall faster, finally you accept it, and let go of Charun, he falls, whilst you don’t.

You watch him fade away beneath you, the last thing you hear before he’s gone is deep guttural laughter and roaring flames.
---
You snap back to the real world. You are Shee/Lirael and you are floating above your bodies, looking down. Held tightly in your tentacles is a limp body, unresisting. You reach out with your powers, the mind is...gone and the heart has stopped. With your healing powers you could maybe save Charuns life but his mind is just...gone.
>>
You feel shock welling up in one part of you, revulsion in another, and you feel yourself splitting in two, no wait, you’ve only just been born you can’t die no-
---
You are Shee Hyul, and you are holding a sobbing Lirael “He’s dead, we killed him and he’s dead.”

“It’s not your fault” you say, holding Lirael “I asked you to do this, and he had someone else put those things in his head, it’s not your fault.”

You rock Lirael until she stops crying, it takes some time.

You’re sat in Charuns house, staring at his dead body.

I wonder if people who installed this on him will know what exactly triggered the killswitch.
>>
>>37613622
Uh, no, he accepted Dusters getting hurt as a good reason to not do the mission.

>>37613660
Not as long as retards keep voting in this quest.
>>
>>37613672
I'm fairly sure it was something our father did to protect his secrets.
>>
>>37613678
But based on your reply to me you are one of those retards, as reading and understanding context are beyond you. So stop voting, anon. Shee might finally catch a break.
>>
>>37613657
>The coolest thing is that Shee is now a murderer.

You do make a good point. I fear we'll go redeemer in response to that though, and not bitter hate filled cynic. I do wish Charun was still alive, he was a good foil for Shee. A good advisor sometimes. Also he was going to sell a whole bunch of guns for us.
>>
>>37613698
I didn't vote for this trainwreck, it's all on you faggot.
>>
>>37613657
>The coolest thing is that Shee is now a murderer.
She killed people before.
The only bad thing is the connections we lost with Charun, we have no idea if he planned this mission himself or if someone moves without him, and we need to sell those guns ourselves now too.
We have to get very busy now fixing this.
Getting into contact with the other rebels first.
>>
>>37613716
Odd are we're going to be the new cell leader.

>>37613742
Yup. Almost a blessing we lost our job now.

You likely didn't vote at all. Just waiting in the wings to rant about anything that goes wrong.
>>
>>37613657
>The coolest thing is that Shee is now a murderer.
We were already a murderer. If anything, this is less of a murder than our previous acts of murder, since we tripped a Deathblock instead of actually wanting to kill someone.
>>
>>37613716
>and not bitter hate filled cynic
It didn't raise your Cynism, which is already pretty high anyway.
Not sure where you get hate filled.

Good job not voting on this. Continue to not vote, retard.
>>
>>37613697

I guess that's an option. And it would have been ironic that it bit us in the ass.

You know.
This is actually a good opportunity to ask the King of Hell for that Favor, chances are pretty good he will ask us to take control of the rebel cell or something like that.

>>37613762
I wasn't counting the kills Shee had to do during missions and the like. She'd probably have died if she didn't.
This, though? Got into a stupid fight and end up killing someone very important to even the quest itself

It was still more manslaughter than murder.

I always assume all shitposter and assholes in this quest are the same person.

>>37613802
>Got into a stupid fight
You can say about this what you want, but it was not a stupid fight, Charun was about to throw away the lives of hundreds of people for his personal vendetta.
>>
>>37613818
It still wouldn't have happened if Shee hadn't invaded his mind. I'd expect her to be pretty broken up about it and blame herself, at least a little.
>>
>>37613850
Shee was saving live, something Cahrun didn't care about. As to the whole mental bomb? Who could have anticipated that?
>>
>>37613850
Shee had very good reason to invade his mind, only the part of reading his memories is what she can be blamed for.
And I highly doubt she will be very broken up about it, she didn't even really like Charun. She didn't want to kill him, but shit happens.
>>
>>37613884
>Who could have anticipated that?
To be fair we did know he had protections, but that he would be willing to die for that memory, or that someone made him die to protect that memory was something we really couldn't have seen coming.
>>
>>37613888
I don't disagree with the action, I just think it'd make sense if she blames herself for this.

So, with Charun dead.

Who's gonna call off the attack?
>>

I doubt it.

>>37613944
We will, the rebels will need to contact us. Assuming the go through it without Charun at all.
>>
>>37613922
Exactly. Pretty sure Shee isn't happy, probably sad about it in fact. But there was nothing she could really do once whatever the fuck it was went off. She'll blame herself but not as much as she could.

>>37613944
Whoever the new cell leader is. So us or whoever Six sends.
>>
>>37613935
She'll blame herself, but won't really care that much.

>>
>>37613968
Oh yeah, our cynicism went up. Well, that sucks.
>>
You call Rainya into the shack and quickly explain to her what happened, how you tried to change Charuns mind, but that he had some sort of mental defence and he died.

“Oh” says Rainya, staring down at the body “What do we do now?”

“We tell everyone that he had a heart attack” you say “It is the truth after all, we don’t need to tell anyone what else was happening.”

“Yeah” says Rainya, distracted “But Charun, dead? I mean, he was always there, I thought he’d y’know, go on forever.”

“He was old” you say “The heart attack story won’t raise any eyebrows.”
---
And indeed, it doesn’t. A few hours later you are watching a pair of Dusters fill in a deep hole, Charuns body at the bottom of it. Very few of the other Dusters stayed for the short funeral. Seems Charun had few friends.

No one seemed surprised Charun had died, and no one asked any questions about you being with him. The Dusters just dug a hole and then got on with their lives.

In the end, it’s just you, Lirael and Rainya stood around the slowly-filling hole as the two nearby Dusters shovel much and dust atop Charuns body.

It’s midday, Dev is out at work, you’ll have to tell him when he gets back.

Lirael is quiet, almost unresponsive, you don’t know if she’s upset over what happened, or hungry, or both, you know she used a lot of power when you were in Charuns mind, you both did, she’ll need feeding soon. Your own emotions are all over the place, but you’re keeping it together for Lirael and Rainya.

Rainya clears her throat “Should we, I dunno, say something?”

Should you?

Oh, it will become quite a problem, no doubt.
I would have preferred to not see him die, but we can work these problems out, and if we do it right, we just went up in our position in the rebels.
>>
>>37614178
I don't like the rebellion anyway. From my perspective this was the best result we could have gotten.
>>
>>37614335
Not really, Charun was useful to us.
Him dying is a loss for Shee, at the very least in a material sense.
Not to mention it means we now might need to track down the rebel leadership to make sure this plan doesn't go off.
>>
>>37614363
He outlived his usefulness after showing us the old base. Now all he does is come up with shitty plans and overcharge us for brokering weapons.
>>
You might as well say a few words “Charun wasn’t the nicest person” you start “But he looked out for us, trained us, and led us. He was a rebel who fought monsters, its little wonder he carried scars, both to his body, and his soul, he will be missed.”

Rainya and Lirael just stare solemnly. You’ve no idea what’s going on in their heads. In your own you feel responsible for this, you didn’t put that trap in his head, but you stepped on it, if you had convinced him, if had seen reason. Ah well *if*. It’s not your fault, and its done now, Charun is gone and neither Rainya or Dev strike you as a leader.

Six or someone else will send someone to replace Charun, or maybe you’ll be added to another cell. Huh, will they break you up and have you work with different groups? You don’t know what you’d do in that situation.

And if they don’t send someone, or send an asshole? Maybe you’ll have to step up, either way, you can decide later.

You look at Rainya and Lirael, they’re both looking like they need something to take their minds off things this afternoon, something to keep them busy maybe, or just let them rest. You’ll talk to Dev when he gets back and make a decision then.

But what will you do in the meantime?

>Leisure, reading, Simguns, whatever

We don't have anywhere near the pull with the Rebellion he would've, and one of the other major leaders dislikes us personally whereas he evidently respected Charun, enough to keep us out of I9. Them trying to draft us into I9 would be inconvenient, as will the lack of respect people will have when we tell them to cancel the mission, if we're made into a leader.

We no longer have a source of information on things related to the base or our parents. He knew a lot of things, things we still don't know, and it's inconvenient to lose that source of information.

Thats pretty unlikely given how much Shee has done for her.
Sofar none of her fuck-ups have affected Rainya negatively, and Rainya looks to much up to Shee to leave her.
And even if she doesn't. We got so much favor with Ichor. We'll make her stay.
The dying 'might' happen, but its pretty unlikely.

TS means time-sensitive, right?

In that case, re-establishing resistance contact, convincing the resistance and speaking to Yonsul should also be time-sensitive, if we're going to be stopping the enslavement plan.

We're actually planning on having Teacher do 5, and possible enrolling ourselves. Dev is good enough to do basic repairs already, I think, so 4 might not really be a thing.
