It’s a familiar nightmare by now, seeing as it happened so long ago.

The flames illuminate the night as they consume the town. Fear grips you as your father guides you through the throngs of panicked people who clog the streets. In one hand, your father carries a sturdy backpack, the other hand holds firmly onto yours. An explosion rocks the night and you become truly terrified. Your father glances down at you and then guides you into a deserted side street. He kneels before you, coming level with your face. The gentle smile that was always partially hidden behind his beard has been replaced with a grim frown and his deep green eyes bore into yours.

“You have to run on your own from here. I have to help defend the town.” He says in a firm voice, brooking no argument. “I won’t lose you as well.”

You nod and he hugs you tightly. “I love you.”

He hands you the pack he was carrying as he stands. It’s a little heavy, but you swing it onto your back without complaint. “Everything in here will help you survive.”

He walks back out into the emptying street, grabbing a Pokeball from his belt and drawing his saber from the sheath on his left side. A white flash reveals a tall Dodrio, and your father swings himself onto the bird Pokemon’s back, the Sentinel insignia on his coat flashing in the fire light. He gives you one last glance before riding off into battle. You just turn and run.

You clutch the pack your father pressed into your arms tightly and try desperately to ignore the screams that fill the air. There are more than just screams though; the clashing of steel on steel, the battlecries of the Bandits and the Guardsmen, and, above all, the baying of the Pokemon. You run frantically through the streets, your pulse pounding in your ears and your breath steaming out in front of you.

As you approach the Southern Gate of the town, you can make out a small contingent of Guardsmen trying to direct the massive crowd of civilians out of danger. You begin to approach the line but stop suddenly. There’s something on the edge of your hearing, a distinct “whooshing” sound. You look up.

A massive dragon Pokemon dives out of the night sky. Its body is a metallic blue and its wings are the deep crimson of blood. Twin crests frame its draconic head and the fanged maw streams purple fire as it descends through the night sky. A Salamence.

You realize what it’s about to do and open your mouth to scream out a warning. It’s too late. Purple flames erupt from the dragon Pokemon’s mouth and immediately incinerate the entire crowd of civilians, the Guardsmen, and the gate itself. The backdraft from the flames bowls you over. You scramble to your feet and are treated to the sight of dozens of smoldering corpses covering the ground, filling the air with a nauseating scent. Tears streaming from your eyes, you turn and run away, back into the town. Behind you, the Salamence roars as it flies back into the night.

You found a hiding spot, the abandoned basement of a small house, and waited there for a few days, surviving off the supplies packed inside the backpack. Eventually, when you felt it was finally safe, you came out.

The town is not much more than a burned out shell. Even the house you were sheltering in was practically destroyed. There doesn’t appear to be another human anywhere. That was when it finally hit you, and you sat down and cried.

You place the card in your wallet and start off down the path to the dining hall. All around you, Cadets of various walks of life stream towards the eatery. Taking a moment to adjust the worn longbow on your back, you spy a man approaching you with a sheathed sword in hand. You turn to face him and smile.

“Heya Darius.” You greet your fellow Cadet. “Sergeant Cort finish with my sword?”

Darius grins back. “Hey yourself Victor. And yeah, it should be as good as new. Don’t know why you would want to keep this toothpick of a sword though”

Darius Hammerworth is a tall, tall man, easily reaching seven feet. His brawn matches his height and he’s gained a reputation for swinging the massive maul on his back with one hand. His deeply tanned skin marks him as hailing from Hoenn. He generally wears his hair in dreadlocks with a connecting beard. His brown eyes are almost always sparkling with mirth. His Cadet uniform has had the sleeves torn off in order to accommodate his arms. A single Pokeball is attached to his belt, containing his Blaziken.

He hands the blade to you, and you draw it, examining the hand and a half blade with a critical eye. You know how to take care of the blade but years of use had ruined the blade’s temper, requiring it to be reforged. Seeing that the sword is back to prime condition, you slide it back into its sheath and hook it onto your belt opposite of your pokeballs.

You give a guilty laugh and rub the back of your head as you walk. “That’s actually more of a personal thing. I kinda really like reading about old legends and stuff.”

“Ah.” Darius nods sagely, stroking his beard. “You look up to them. Say no more, I understand.”

“But if you tell anyone else that I’ll kick your ass.”

Darius chuckles. “Your secret is safe with me.”

The two of you finally make it to the entrance of the Dining Hall and get in the line to enter. The sun has risen over the edge of the plateau and finally fully illuminated the area. Indigo Plateau is a natural fortress, but that didn’t stop mankind from building upon it. The walls that cover the edge of the plateau are manned by guardsmen and equipped with cannons. Admittedly, the modifications are rather useless now as Indigo stands as the capital of Kanto and is naturally rather safe. The defenses were put in place hundreds of years ago and haven’t changed since then. Many of the buildings in the city are hewn from the same stone but recent decades have seen them be replaced by more modern constructs.

You and Darius join the rather short line of people entering the dining hall, swiping your I.D.’s at the kiosk at the front of the building and enter the rather cavernous hall. Massive floor to ceiling windows illuminate the giant space. The entire hall appears to be dominated by various terrains with tables and chairs scattered throughout.
You see only a few people, perhaps a dozen at most, but several Pokemon out and about, eating and interacting with each other. A Jolteon and Elekid chow down next to a Numel and Torkoal. A Sneasel sits on top of a Houndoom and munches on an apple.

There’s a flash of light next to you and a Blaziken appears. Darius fistbumps the fire Pokemon and turns to you.

“Well, are you gonna let your Pokemon out? Yamo will probably get lonely.”

You reach down to your belt and throw out all three of your Pokeballs with a flick of your wrist. Shellshocker appears and yawns. The other two flashes of light reveal…

Dratini, and indeed all Dragon-types, are notoriously hard to train. A Dratini will generally need to spend years with a trainer before growing into a Dragonair. That's why Lance the Dragonmaster is so Respected and Feared. Also, all Evolutions are dependent upon time.

Cobalt floats toward a table piled with food tray and levitates a small tray of Pokechow towards its mouth, engulfing the entire plate. A moment later, the tray is ejected, bare of any food. Shellshocker has dived into the pool and grabbed several fish to chew on. Terra continues to sleep, so you lay him down on the table itself.

You and Darius grab plates of bacon and eggs and move to sit at the edge where the rocky area meets the water pool. Yamo has already finished several trays of food and is now apparently practicing martial arts forms.

Darius gulps down a forkful of bacon and looks behind you. “So, I know that you got your Metang from one of the Beldum that budded off of Cort’s Metagross. But when’d you get the Larvitar?”

You finish chewing a forkful of eggs before answering. “Some Rangers found a clutch of eggs near a dead Tyranitar a few weeks ago and brought them back here. Terra was one of the only ones to hatch out of the batch.”

Darius nods, evidently impressed. “Lucky guy.”

You look around the dining hall, noting the other students. There’s more now, and lots of Pokemon filling the hall. You’d better keep an eye on your Pokemon to make sure they don't get into trouble. As you look around, you spot a man dressed in full Sentinel gear sit down at another table.

Your attention comes back to your food and you finish the plate off. Standing up you stretch and check the time on a wall clock. It’s 7:30, and your first class is at 9:00. You’ve got at least an Hour to kill.

Well, Darius, have you considered your future? Since this is the final week of our classes and all.

So, we've already seen that this Pokemon world is EXTREMELY dangerous compared to the canon world. Apparently to the point where death is pretty common. So, what would our MC's attitude be towards this?

'm going to go look around." You say to Darius. “Try not to get into trouble while I’m gone.”

Darius chuckles, “Don’t worry your pretty little head about me.”

You flip him off as you walk around the hall. You see that several Cadets have stripped off their outer clothes and are swimming with their Pokemon in the pool. There’s a bunch of fighting types practicing with each other, sparring and the like. In one of the meadows a number of grass types appear to be just sitting there and soaking up the sun.

Huh, from what you’ve seen, most of the trainers seem to only have one or two types of Pokemon. In fact, you might be the only trainer with a pretty varied set. You might have more Pokemon than most of the other trainers as well. They only seem to have one or two at the most.

Scratching your head, you turn around... and walk face first into another cadet who was walking past you. The impact knocks both of you off your feet and leaves you a little dazed.

Suddenly, there’s a girl in your face, and she looks MAD.

“Watch where you’re going dumbass!” She screams.

A vein pops in your temple. If there was one thing you cannot stand, it was being mistaken for a girl.

You take a deep breath and growl out, “I am a Man.”

The girl’s eyes widen briefly before she laughs. “Ha! Could’ve fooled me.”

At this point your yelling competition has attracted a small crowd of people. You ignore them.

“Yeah, I’m a guy, therefore it makes sense for me not to have any tits!” You lean down to glower right in her face. “What’s YOUR excuse?”

The way her face gets all red is kinda amusing. Well, up until her knee violently and painfully displaces your intestines. You clutch your stomach and bend over. Her other knee almost catches you in the face, but your reflexes, honed by Instructor Kimura’s tutelage, allow you to just barely twist out of the way.

The adrenaline begins to kick in and you slip into a fighting stance, ignoring the pain in your abdomen. You first punch, is lucky, catches her in the side of the head, disorienting her. Sadly for you, she snaps out of it almost instantly and tackles you around the waist, knocking you to the ground once more. From there, the brawl gets ugly, as the two of of you roll around in the dirt, punching and kicking and grappling. Eventually, you end up with your back pinned to the ground and the girl straddling your stomach, her hands straining to reach your throat but prevented by your hands pressed to her face.

Your fight is interrupted by an extremely loud yell.

“What the bloody hell is wrong with you two!?” The Sentinel that you saw earlier is marching towards you. “Break it up, NOW!”

The girl immediately scrambles off of you, suddenly looking very small and meek, keeping her eyes away from the Sentinel.

“What the fuck just happened here?” The man demands.

You think fast and begin talking, not even bothering to get up off the ground. “Just a friendly spar that got out of hand, sir. I think it's handled for now.”

“We decided not to hold back.” The girl supplies. “We wanted it to be an authentic experience.”

The Sentinel looks between the two of you and snorts. “Well, you sure got that. I’ll let it slide. I suggest you two head down to the infirmary before class starts.”

And with that he walks away.

You take a deep breath and let it out at the same time the girl does. She glances at you and then walks over to lend a hand. “... Thanks for that.” She grumbles as she pulls you to your feet.

You grin, “Well, I couldn’t exactly tell him you started the fight because I have better tits than you”

The look she gives you is murderous but she closes her eyes and takes a deep breath before she jumps on you again. “I will ignore that.” She mutters.

Another deep breath. “My name is Katrina.” She says, “And you’re still a dumbass.”

And she walks away.

Seems like part of the fun. I like the idea of Vicky ("my name is Victor!") constantly trying to be masculine, and being foiled by the fact that he is an effeminate girlyman.
He eats red meat for 90% of his diet, he lifts, and he's not averse to punching people in the face. But he knows nothing about mechanics, always smells like peaches, cries at sad films, cant grow a beard to save his life, reads trashy romantic literature, enjoys cleaning and he doesn't have a special outfit to clean in why would you think that whoever told you that was a dirty liar and in general is just ohgodsopretty.

...any stereotypes I missed? I really do like this idea. Just maybe not quite that blatant.
