You step inside the still darkened home. The sun has yet to rise, as has the resident, leaving the house in a state where you can barely see what's ahead of you. An issue you're about to raise when Valerie grabs your wrist, dragging you through the darkness.

"It's down here!"

You don't know if she can see in the dark or if she just knows the place very well but she efficiently keeps you from colliding with anything as you both snake your way through the halls before finally stopping, presumably in front of something. You really can't tell!

"It's in here!"

You hear a creaking sound before once again being dragged along by the wrist a short distance, then hearing a gentle thump behind you. A moment later, a click prompts the lights of the small room to come on.

The bedroom may be small, but it lacks for nothing, sporting a large mirror, several closets lined in front of the bright red walls, and finally a bed large enough for several to have a good night in, though it only appears to contain one at the moment.

Valerie jumps on top of the bed, shaking the poor girl with both arms.

"Nee-chan! Wake up, quick!"

The girl groans loudly before finally giving in to the assault, rising from the covers to reveal herself. Her hair is as red as her room, adorned with an oversized ribbon even though she was just sleeping, and more importantly, you notice her pointed ears. If you paid attention to Andrea's lectures this would probably tell you something important about the girl, other than the fact she is not human.

She rubs her eyes sleepily, still not having actually opened them to the light and thus unaware anyone but Valerie is here.

You are the Loli Talker, aka Nee-chan, a specialist dealing in bringing unreasonable lolis to reason, and you have just chosen to follow the strange girl who was attacking you just moments ago, into the house of her friend to ask her to help you find your own friend, Andrea, who you're not sure is actually anywhere nearby yet.

"It's her, Nee-chan!" Valerie is practically shouting at the girl now. "The one mistress is looking for, I brought her here! Help me capture her!"

Uh oh?

The girl opens her eyes and gives you a confident smile.

Instinctively, you quickly scan your surroundings to determine your options. There's the door behind you of course, but the darkness will slow you down during an escape, just as finding a light source would. There's a window, but with the blinds down you have no idea what you'd be jumping into. Or you could try t-

"Would you like some tea?"

The voice of the still unknown girl is almost disturbingly calm. Friendly, but very calculated, much unlike her excited companion who appears as surprised as you.

Some might say to just count your blessings and be glad to catch a break here, but you don't feel particularly inclined in this situation. The shift in tone is just too suspicious. Who knows, maybe she's trying to poison you and Valerie simply hasn't caught on yet. Or she could be trying to distract you while calling for help. The endless number of bad things that could happen race through your mind in their usual unproductive manner until your tongue grows bored enough to break the silence of its own accord.

"What, uh, what happened to that whole 'help me capture her' thing just now?"

The confident smile of the presumably older girl fades into a frown as Valerie launches her arms into the air, shouting in agreement.

"Yeah, why aren't you helping me! You're my sister and I'd totally help you out too! Why are you trying to be nice to the hunter?"

Wait, what was that word now? Wasn't she calling you invader before, now she thinks you're a hunter instead?

The girl yawns, in a slightly exaggerated fashion you notice, before giving her calm response to Valerie.

"She's not going anywhere, see? There's no reason to be impolite. Remember what I told you about etiquette? A good host would offer her guest something nice to drink."

With that, the girl turns her attention back over to you with a smile while her friend stares in disbelief.

"And somewhere to sit, certainly! You'll have to excuse me, I wasn't expecting company at all."

At her side, Valerie snaps back into focus, grabbing both of her arms and shaking her violently.

"Are you crazy! We have to stop the hunter before she kills everyone!"

The unknown girl is now slumping both shoulders while rolling her eyes, visibly frustrated by the antics of her friend.

>>
>>37590126
That's twice now that Valerie has called you a 'hunter', and you're pretty sure she's not referring to goofy middle aged men playing pretend soldiers shooting witless animals in the forest. You're not even sure this is an improvement over the invader she was previously accusing you of being, since in both cases your motivation is apparently the death of all her friends.

You usually leave a much better impression on children than this! You need to know just what she's talking about, even if it means risking turning their growing ire back upon yourself.

"What's a 'hunter'? Why do you think I am one?"

Sure, you know how to handle a gun, but aside from the few bits of quality time with your father before he got whipped, you don't have any real experience. You're certainly not a hunter of anything!

The girl whose name you still haven't learned is first to take the opportunity to respond.

"See, she doesn't even know what you're talking about. There's no reason to worry at all."

Valerie is less impressed by your question, her face turning red as her anger towards the both of you edges closer to boiling.

"Liar! I know what your kind is like!"

The redhead lets out a tired sigh as Valerie once again brings her hands together, a swirl of silvery light gathering in her hands before launching towards you, only to dissipate into the oversized toy hammer you -liberated- from the local mall not long ago, still clutched in your left hand. This thing might be a lot more useful than you first took it for.

At the sight, Valerie falls back on her behind, landing with a bounce in the bed next to her friend who gently reaches out to pat her on the head.

"And that's another reason to be polite, Vally."

As interesting as that display was, nobody has answered your question yet.

"Excuse me," you begin, quickly gaining the full attention of both girls again. "I still would like to know what you mean by calling me a 'hunter'?"

Instantly, Valerie springs back into action only to be pulled back down by the hand that had been patting her on the head just a moment before, followed by the redheads other hand moving to cover her mouth as well, preventing her from answering the question. Instead, her friend answers the question in the same calm tone that you've grown to think of as her default, even as it continues to unnerve you.

"You'll have to forgive my Vally, she..." The redhead looks down, stumbling on her words for the first time today. "Well, she had some bad experience."

Even as she speaks, the exasperated girl in her hands is turning as red as her own hair, a furious glare directed your way. In turn, the redhead responds by pulling Valerie closer, resting her head against her own, putting an end to Valerie's struggle to break free, at least for now.

"A hunter is just that, someone who hunts. Undead, fairies, demons. Humans fear them all, and so they hunt them. But you're not one of those at all, are you?"

If her words didn't manage it, her eyes definitely succeed in relaying the girl's plea for help as Valerie once again begins to struggle in anger.

Undead, fairies, demons, Andrea has talked about all of those things before but you've never met any. Until now, maybe? You're honestly not sure. Andrea would probably know. Could she be a 'hunter'? You don't think she is, she doesn't seem like she would never hurt anyone, not if she had a choice in the matter. And while you have certainly hurt people before, you don't think you'd ever go so far as to hunt real living people, even if they're not quite people.

It's a shame honesty usually isn't as convincing as deceit. Valerie is even angrier than when she was outright attacking you. Whatever happened to her, the girl has definitely been holding on to a lot of anger that you've become the designated target of. You'll probably need a little something extra to reach her. Something extra sugary.

Slowly you step over to the foot end of the bed, sitting down in front of it to lower yourself beneath the angry girl. What you're about to try looks far better when coming from below, as you only know too well.

"I'm sorry that I've scared you, Val. I would never do anything bad to you, honest! In fact, it's my job to help girls just like you so they don't get hurt!"

Only the slightest twitching of her eye betrays the slight doubt she is now feeling. The redhead picks up on this as well, leaning in to whisper something you can't quite make out into her ear. Regardless, you're not done yet. You reach both hands into the back pockets of your shirt.

"That's why I have this."

You pull out a fistful of chocolate bars, quite honestly of mixed quality but that's not the point, with your left hand, leaving them on the bed in front of you. Unsurprisingly, the response is far more visible this time, Valerie almost seeming to shrink in size as she relaxes the muscles that you didn't even know had been tensing all this time.

You pull out your right hand as well, skipping the pocket of wine gums and instead option for the toffees. She seems like the type who'd rather have something chewy!

"And this! No weapons, just cheerful things!"

You motion to the generous pile in front of you, not that her eyes weren't already locked firmly on it.

"You can have it. You deserve something nice, don't you?"

It always saddens you a little when you have to resort to methods like this. You shouldn't have to resort to bribes to be the good one, but this girl is being very difficult, more than you have burn through in just a few minutes of conversation.

The redhead leans in to whisper a few more words, then finally releases Valerie from her grasp. Immediately, she jumps back unto the floor. She hesitates for a moment before speeding over to the pile of candy and shoveling all of it into her arms in a single swoop and nervously backing away from you again, all without a single word. Greedy girl!

She turns to the redhead with a proud grin. Urgh, she didn't even deserve any of that after the way she treated you, you only gave it to make her calm do-

"All for you, Nee-chan!" Valerie chirps as she unloads the entire pile into the lap of her friend, leaving not even a single piece for herself.

The redhead smiles, not the confident smile she was giving you, a much softer smile. Warmer? Not for long though, as just a moment later she catches sight of something that causes her to frown.

"Have you been up all night again?"

Valerie gives no verbal response, instead merely scratching the back of her neck nervously.

You recognize that situation all too well, sparking a sudden burst of sympathy for Valerie. You couldn't possibly count the number of times you've been in the place she is now. Briefly you consider jumping in to support her, but almost immediately you change your mind. You've always hated when people did that to you. You didn't need their help and you didn't ask for it! And she certainly hasn't asked for yours either. You'll let her fight her own fight here, even if you doubt her chances.

The redhead narrows her eyes as she crawls closer to inspect her sister, lifting her face with a hand under her chin as a doctor examines her patient.

"You have, haven't you?"

Valerie rapidly crumbles under the gaze of her older sister, reduced to a stuttering mess.

"I-i-it was only f-f-for-"
"Don't care!"

The redhead quickly interrupts the attempted defense, folding her arms in front of her.

"I've told you before, growing girls need plenty of sleep! Do you want to be a child forever?"

Valerie looks up nervously from the verbal assault.

"With you?"

The redhead is caught off guard, completely losing track of her line of lecturing as a soft sigh escapes her.

"Well, you're sleeping now then! No school today!"

A look of horror that you certainly wouldn't expect from anyone after that statement appears on Valerie's face along with her shocked gasp.

"But I'll get double chores this weekend if I don't go!"

On this, the older girl takes the chance to reaffirm her offensive.

"Then that'll be your punishment! Now get to bed!"

Head slumped in defeat, Valerie begins to make her way to the door when she is grabbed from behind and swung back around.

"Oh no you don't, you're sleeping in my bed! Else you'll just cheat and go to school anyway!"

Valerie meekly obeys, slipping under the covers as the redhead takes your hand to lead you out of the room, shutting the door behind her after switching on the lights in the rest of the small house.

"Actually," you begin, carefully. "I'm not very thirsty at all. But I'd like to stay for a chat anyway!"

The redhead halts on the spot, slowly turning her head to face you with genuine worry.

"You... -don't- want tea?" She blinks several times, then rubs her eyes before finally responding. "Well I suppose it could be a cultural thing? Either way, I shan't force you to have any if you don't want any! Would you mind if I made some for myself, though?"

You shake your head.

"Of course not."

"Good, it'll be just a moment!"

The girl's smile is immediately restored and she skips along, leading you through the narrow hallway lined with drawers along every wall, each of them topped by various statuettes and figurines, none of which look to be from a recent century. Similarly, the dark red walls are covered in old paintings, portraits of people you certainly don't recognize. This of course tells you nothing as history was never your strong side anyway.

The kitchen is a stark contrast to the almost gloomy hallway, with bright blue walls and a large window to light up the room. The redhead immediately scurries about the kitchen, digging out an old-fashioned kettle, the kind that screeches at you when they're ready. You hate that sound. You'll have to try not to cringe at it in a few moments.

While she busies herself, you may as well set about trying to obtain some information.

"If you don't mind me asking, could you tell me about the 'mistress'?"

1/2
>>
>>37596810
Though she responds immediately, the girl shows no actual sign of paying attention to anything but her teamaking.

"Hm? What do you want to know about me- oh, right, you mean HER. Sorry, old habit."

Even through that mistake, her focus remains entirely fixed.

"The -mistress-, she never told anyone her name, maybe she doesn't even have any. I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't actually. Either way, she's the one in charge here. Built the place, then invited girls from all over to come join her here in her -paradise-."

You notice a slight shrug of her shoulders, the first physical sign that she's actually talking to you since you entered the kitchen.

"Other than that, well... She's obsessed with you for some reason? I don't really know why, so you'll have to answer that for yourself."

Finally, she turns and locks eyes with you.

"Are you going to destroy her?"

"I have no idea, really."

That's an honest answer. You still barely understand what is even going on. You'd rely on Andrea for answers about all this magical stuff but, as you've come to realize so many times lately, she's not here right now. The redhead retrieves that same smile you first saw her give you, confident and just a little more pleased than you're comfortable with.

"I didn't tell you my name yet, did I?"

She strikes an elegant curtsy at you, the kind you'd only expect to see in historical theatre.

"Heidi von Augsburg, at your service. But please, just call me Heidi!"

She straightens back up, smiling just as widely as before, just as the kettle begins to howl behind her. Between the two, you can't help but shudder. She quickly turns about and prepares her cup, then sits down beside you, cup in hand.

"In fact, that's exactly what you should do. If you need help destroying that freak, just call me and I'll come help you! Don't forget!"

That's... nice? You could certainly use an ally here, right?

"I'll keep that in mind."

That conversation turned a little too grim for your tastes. Besides, if she doesn't know anything useful about the 'mistress' then there's really no point talking about that. What you're more interested in is...

"So how do you know Valerie? You don't seem much alike."

Heidi lets out a slight giggle at this, quite unlike the calm and collected character she has been showing you so far.

"Well, we're certainly not sisters like she says. Not that she's lying, of course. She couldn't do that."

She stops to take a small sip of her tea, prompting a pleased sigh as she collects her story.

"I saved her, in a way. Only just a year or so ago, actually. Poor girl was all alone after a group of hunters got the jump on her sister, you see. Well, she wasn't quite alone after that, but she was very alone when she was done with the group of hunters. I'm sure they're still trying to figure out how a crater that large can just appear in the forest without anyone noticing."

This time the giggle she lets out is far less suppressed.

"The girl has no sense of scale. Either way, as far as she tells me it was about a week until she stumbled up to my manor, confused, cold, and soaked in more than just water. So I took her in, of course. How could I not? And now she's my little angel. So I suppose I'm like a sister to her that way. I quite enjoy her company if I'm honest, even if she is a little difficult sometimes."

A soft smile sneaks its way across her expression, not quite directed at you it would seem.

"It's a shame even angels grow up."

Finally, she turns her attention to an old clock in the hallway outside the kitchen.

"Ah, it seems I'll have to get going soon. According to the rules, I have to attend school as well. Ridiculous, but as long as we're here I'll have to conform. Anything else you'd like to discuss first?

Oh, and just because I haven't managed to include more than one of your votes in these updates doesn't mean I'm ignoring your other votes now, it's just that they've been leading to more things so it seemed more appropriate to call for a new vote instead of writing an entire thread's worth in a single update. I still try to fit it in if I think it's feasible and I definitely appreciate write-ins.

I hope you understand.

You know, my mind is really starting to crash here, and as you can probably tell, this was going to be the last update with Heidi. So what I'm going to do is call the thread here and then finish the infodumping in the next OP.

So I hope you enjoyed this thread, even if it was a lot more wordy than I like my updates to be. I sure hope next time you'll manage to find Andrea 'cause I'm starting to miss my blue.

Until then, I hope you guys have a great everything!

She's out there. I'm tracking her movements alongside your own. She has basically gone to the places I thought you would before you voted on where to go, though I dropped her in a different initial location. Because I thought it might be fun to do it that way.

She's starting to worry a lot...

Good night, sweet anons!
