Your laughter is ever so slightly muted by the irate snake wrapped around your throat.
Not that she could choke you, or anything.

The tip of her tail sweeps back and forth, slapping the side of your neck, her hissing vibrating through her body.
You reach a careful hand up, running it along her cool scales, petting the length of her tail till she calms.

"There, there. It is not something to be mad about, yes?"
You think she muttered something about hiding beneath a chair and biting someone.
"Mhm. We will get you some food, find some games."

She snorts, loosening her coils.
"That won't make me less mad!"
"It will put you to sleep, though."

You can practically feel her blushing.
"A-All lamia are like that! We can't help it!"
"Don't worry, yes. I will make sure you stay warm. And don't fall off."
"Hmph!"

You turn back to your highly amused half-elven friend.

In the background, a drum beat starts again, and a few moments later, strings begin to accompany it, a tangy sort of tune.
The smile that crawls across your face could potentially be called 'sinister'.

One hand is extended to Lann, palm out and thumb wide- The other is neatly tucked into the small of your back as you bow as best you can.
Lann just watches.
You drop lower on your legs and bow your head.

"Most gracious lady Lann. Would you bless me with a dance on this fine eve?"
Lann cocks her head to one side as laughter rings out from the surrounding adventurers.
"Eh. You helped, so-"

She reaches forward-
And is immediately intercepted by a fluttering poofball in a white dress.
"Absolutely not! As Herald and foremost amongst-"

Sheszka is tugging at your other arm.
"What is dance, Alpha?"
Even Jin is starting to rouse herself.

A soft, hissing laughter joins Lann's outrageous cackling as she takes your hand.
Nin looks like she's trying to inflate herself like a balloon, but all she can manage is to puff up her cheeks and stomp.
"No! I'm first!"
"Ah, but as the invited party, t'would be such an insult to refuse-"
"No!"

This is the exact opposite of how I imagine a fair.

Which is cotton candy and corndogs in one hand, some kind of rifle for target shooting in the other.

And then rides after you eat all the corndogs and cotton candy and are most likely to get sick.
>>
>>37590531

Thing is, this is more of a seasonal festival in ye olden' times. They don't have rides (other than cart rides which we are more likely to be drawing than riding)

>>37590723

Well, is it worth going into the meta well on this one? We have the know how. Vegetable oil, cornmeal, and sausage are already things, as are little sticks.
>>
>>37590750
If there are no corndogs, then I do think we should produce them at some point.

Now I sort of want to run the corndog stand with one of those little paper hats.
>>

Do we know how to make condiments? It's not the same without condiments.

I dunno, they're pretty good without condiments, it's how I prefer 'em.

>>
>>37591007
Soda isn't all that great either. Not to mention that it'd fuck up Lyra.
>>

Soda is amazing.
>>
>>37591115
We can't taste sweet things anymore? Has it come up or is it an assumed spider thing?
>>
>>37591338
We can taste sweet stuff.
Regular spiders can't, but we don't have the mouth of a regular spider.
>>
You stare, goggle eyed at the impending squabble.
You need, you need-

Aha.

"Nin?"
"-and I- Wha- Lyra?"
"Could I trust you with Sheszka?"
"Huh?"

The wolf leans around your side, peering at the little moth, who looks between the two of you.
"Could you show her how to dance?"

The moth looks trapped, frozen between wanting to protest and wanting to help you out.
She purses her lips, eyes gleaming.
"If such is what my Queen desires."
She responds, flipping her hair back with a toss of her head.

You'll probably pay for this later.

You pull Sheszka out in front of you, scratching her head and mussing her hair as she looks up to you.
"Nin will teach you how to dance, yes. And I will be right there if you need me."
She nods twice, one ear flopping, and follows the Moth to the circle, hand in hand.

You turn back to Lann, watching the whole scene with the fixed smile of someone who knows exactly what kind of trouble they're stirring.
"Milady Lann? Shall we dance."
"Oh, I would be ab-so-lutely delighted."

She takes your hand, leading you side by side towards the roaring fire, where the circle slowly spins about the pyre, people dancing and laughing.

"I must apologize, yes?"
She takes both your hands, standing before you, looking up into your eyes.
"What for?"

"I am afraid that I have four left feet."

Her involuntary grimace at the pun brings just a little joy into your spidery heart, and you push her into the slowly moving crowd, doing your best to step in time to the music.

At the very least, Lann recovers fast from terrible jokes.

She tries to lead you through a series of fast steps- and after dodging a few ill timed razor legs, settles into a slow shuffle. Side to side, step in, out- She even lets one hand go, spinning herself with the other, laughing.

Even Ezzy is shifting back and forth, her body twisting in time to the music, eyes fixed on the fire above.
>>
>>37591338

It was mentioned that candy doesn't really do anything for us. This isn't to say that it tastes bad or we can't taste it, but our tastebuds are no longer really configured to crave sweet things so much as raw meat.
>>
>>37591463
The music stops, and the crowd roars, people switching partners, laughing as they read themselves for the next song.
Sheszka runs up, her dress hiked to her waist, tail barely visible above.

Lann spies your moth trailing behind, and intercepts the wolf with a wink to you.
"C'mere, fuzzy. I'll show you a quick step."
Sheszka smiles and waves as the half-elf drags her off, and your hands are suddenly full of moth.

"My turn."
You smile at her, despite the steely-eyed return gaze, and wait for the music to start.

It's the strings that open this number, a crawling tune that's soon joined by few more of the instruments. Whatever they are.
Nin lets her hands slide up your arms, pulling herself close, slow stepping in time with the people all around you.

Who are at least smart enough to give you quite a bit of space.

You hum along, your hands over her shoulders, swaying with the steps and holding her close.
She keeps quiet, wings folded and hands lightly holding your arms, her head turned to one side, pressed against your stomach.

You're a little tall, all things considered.

The song ends, and Nin steps back, though she keeps her hands on your arms, sliding down the chitin as she moves.
"Thank you."
"Mhm."

What do you say to that?
She seems happy, at least.

Lann leads the excited wolf back to you, throwing her arms up and laughing as she closes.
"I learned to dance, yes!"

You smile back at her.

>>
With a monster hanging from each arm- and a laughing elf following you around- who has somehow located more alchohol. A miracle of festival spirit?
Whatever.

You lead them towards noise. And also the scent of food, because hungry.

An excited tiny snake, with a handful of your hair, directs you towards a rather large amount of laughter- There's a variety of games running.
More than a few you can't play, though.

There's kids in a hastily drawn circle, armed with heavily padded training weapons and wearing bucket helms that are far, far too large for them duking it out.
People cheer as they collide, one child's mask spinning backwards on his head as he swings, the other falling face first into the dirt as she attempts an overhead swing.

There's also a few woven branch circles, hanging from a simple frame- people standing at a line riven in the dirt, hurling balls at the swaying circles.
And not hitting much of anything.
You are fairly certain that beer is a fairly major portion of the event.

You make a spiderline to a little kiosk emitting a most pleasant sort of smell.
Ducking beneath the cloth roof, you are face to face with a pair of staring- well, dwarves, as far as you can tell.
Unless the world has other short bearded people.

"Uh. Hello."
"Hello, yes. Can I have some food?"
"Sure. Yeah, sure. A copper for a stick. How many would you like?"
"Everything you are cooking would be a good start."
"Right then."

They adjust fast.

Moments later you are back in the street, fistfulls of stickmeat in your hands. And two in your mouth.
Patience is not a virtue you possess.
Luckily for Esmerelda, the meat is already hacked into small cubes- you snap off sections of stick, and she eats it sideways, like corn on the cob.
>>
>>37592623
With your friends mostly quiet due to chewing, you wander the streets watching games. People taking tries at drunken archery, drunken wrestling, drunken swimming.

Lann manages a rather impressive shot with her tankard balanced on her head.

Ezzy is a little disheartened at the size of the games, but the food leaves her drowsy. Her complaining trails into mumbling, and then snoring.
Very predictable.

With the moon perfectly over head- And you've already started yawning- Your shell is covered in now slumbering monsters.
And you have to carry Nin.
And Lann.

You'd think she'd have a plan for drinking that much.
At least she's conscious enough to unlock her door.
At which point you all pile into her little room- mostly.
You leave a few legs trailing into the hallway, lying your head down and going to sleep.

The morning is an interesting runaround.
Not for you, of course.

But your mother has the unenviable job of trying to locate and collect a variety of monsters, including her six arachne children.
You do manage to say goodbye to Lann, who moans something about a headache and pulls her pillow back over her head.

Aria and Elle apparently took refuge in Jin's parents house. Your brothers slept in a barn that had been left open. And Sara somehow managed to fast-talk herself into the trading post, and spent the entire night reading books.

She's more than a little loopy on the way home.

___________________________________________

After a few days, your sister's sleeping pattern has returned to normal, and the tremendous bags around her eyes have faded.
So you consider it safe enough to approach her.

"Sara?"
"Yes?"
"I was thinking, yes?"
"Should I get my book?"

You blink.
"Why?"
"This is history happening, yes?"
You grab her cheeks, distorting her face as she starts to giggle.
"You have spent far too much time around Nin, yes. I want to learn more about magic. There are things I can't do with just power, yes?"

Her eyes light up.
You feel a chill down your spine.

"Sit!"
Maybe it's the teacher harmonics in her voice, but you find yourself on the ground, legs curled next to you in short order. She skitters away, rummaging through piles of books till she finds one in particular.

Staying on her feet, she starts to read.
"The critical piece of your continuing magical education is study: A student remains a student throughout their life, ever dedicated to the ideal of an ever-advancing knowledge of magical-"

Oh. Oh gods, what have you done.

_________________________________________________________

When it's all said and done, you've learned a few more spells.
Actual spells, rather than rock shaping, or hoping the local spirits like you.
And when you try to ask what's wrong with that, Sara directs a glare that could easily melt steel at you.
Mages.
>>
>>37593773
Of course, when Mom drops in, literally manhandling you to your feet, you take it as a blessing.
You silly, silly spider.

"Did you think you could get away with it, little one? Just having your friends train?"
"No?"
"Arena."

What follows is far to gruesome for any history book to record- There is no mercy in the arena.
Pitiful pleas go unheard, and it is said that forevermore, the whimpers of two spiders, their names forgotten in the mists of time, are ever heard in that unhallowed ring.

And on quiet days, if you listen closely, you can hear an angry, cry, like a drill sergeant.
"Parry! Block! Dodge!"
"Again!"

The heat doesn't particularly lend itself to ferocious amounts of exercise.
But on the plus side, you do get to enjoy a bit of spoiling form your friends.
On the downside, it's because you actually can't lift your body off the ground.

Aria is likewise assisted by Elle, though the latter is merciless as ever- She takes your inability to complain as compliance, and uses the two of you as test subjects for all her clothing experiments.

You have worn more than two dozen different models of 'spider-underwear'. Three of them sent mom fleeing and blushing.
It's an interesting summer.

This is why Elle can never learn magic and only use magical cloth under the supervision of a mage, wizard, or sorcerer. The suffering wrought will eclipse the fall of the city in the eyes of history.
>>
>>37594238

Well, there is such a spider species who hides brilliant plumage below their usual chitin flaps. In a magical world, such a colorful spider would surely produce colorful silks. Add a little bit of Elf Dad's magic and a little bit of cross influence with Sara, and I can see Elle becoming some sort of terrifyingly maniacal rainbow spider.

As for the other undertones... I think mom's been a slightly better parent to her than all that.
>>
Alright, I'm back and writing again!
>>
>>37594838

Mom would probably try to take down any of her kids that go rogue. Assuming Elle goes pick related though, I imagine it being a situation where Mom is unable to stand against her, not because of her power, but because her attire is so damn lewd that she keeps having to blush and cover her eyes.
>>
>>37595767
>I imagine it being a situation where Mom is unable to stand against her, not because of her power, but because her attire is so damn lewd that she keeps having to blush and cover her eyes.
I assume that, during her time adventuring, Mom has dealt with her fair share of scantily clad sorceresses and evil doers. I think she would be more ashamed that Elle's fashion sense followed that line.
>>
>>37595851

She probably carried around a cape, not for defense or fashion, but so she could throw it over said people then beat them unconscious. Alternately, Elf Dad gave no craps and just set everyone on fire, regardless of state of dress.
>>
>>37595906
>She used that cape as a blindfold until she got used to seeing Elf-dad naked
>>
A few days after the second 'underwear incident'-
Which resulted in Mom choking on a large piece of some unidentified animal when Elle revealed that your latest set of test panties consisted entirely of lace-
A new crisis arose in the nest.

Elle, as usual for her early morning plans, had absconded from hunting duty, rooting about the nest for more books about fashion. Or even a book about monsters or magic or humans with a few illustrations of people in clothes.
She is rather terrifically un-picky.

Anyhow-
You were lying down, nursing a muscle ache that wouldn't quit, and quite enjoying a dust enhanced hot cloth on your back when Mom directed Elle to check the vault for more books.

Thirty minutes or so later, she returned with wedding dress.

Silenced reigned across the nest.
For a little while, anyway.

"W-Where did you find that, dearheart?"
"A chest, yes? It was almost buried! Look at it! It's so beautiful- Ah, there's different materials and lace and frills- The chest is made of layers of lace, yes!"
"Please- Please be careful with that, yes?"

Elle's head snaps up with a manic look in her eyes.
"Is this Yours?"
"Mine and your father's, yes."
"Dad wears dresses?"

"No, dear. It is a wedding dress."
"Wedding dress?"
"When two people are married, it is called a wedding, yes?"
"Married?"
"When two people love each other and want to spend their lives together-"
"Like Lyra and her friends?"

You choke.
"When two Adults love each other and want to spend their lives together, they have ceremony to bind themselves together before the gods. And sometimes, the woman wears a dress like that."
"I want to make more."
"Oh dear."

Elle spends the day feverishly at work- demanding silk of everyone left in the nest, weaving faster than your eyes can follow.
Measuring and sewing and cutting and weaving and...
>>
>>37596047

She finishes shortly before your father arrives home with Aria, having spent the day studying the ruins or something.
He pulls himself from the rope ladder into the nest proper, rising to stand beside his frozen daughter, and looks on into the carnage his home has become.

There are shred and scraps everywhere.
Bits of cloth and thread and lace line the nest, lying across blankets and books and anything else in their path.
And front and centre in your home, you stand next to your mother, your sister, and all of your friends.

All of you wearing wedding dresses of various design.

Your own splits in the centre, just past your hips, a pair of wing like pieces of cloth failing neatly over your foremost legs.
Which are both sporting lace stockings, for some unimaginable reason.

Nin is wrapped in some low cut dress, her whole back exposed, the front made of layered lace and only barely opaque.
Sheszka has a silk bouquet, whine Esmerelda has a long train falling over her tail.

Dinner is awkward.

I think we brought this up in an earlier thread, spider mom was exploring some ruins and elf dad thought that spider mom was the dungeon's guardian but before anything could come of it they were both attack by the real guardian and run until both of them were so tired they couldn't be bothered to fight each other. Then one thing lead to another and eventually they got hitched much to the shock of everyone who know spider mom.

Evolutions, Evolutions. What will they have? Place your bets.

We were even already hunting with them. So we did hear them talk already.
We didn't have much to do with them before because our interests don't really coincide.
Maybe they want to learn the art of big-game hunting now.
>>
>>37596659
How did the last time go?
IIRC we just hunted stuff while being awkward at each other.

Arachnes are highly solitary by nature, I recall QM stating. Us amassing a gaggle of friends is unusual probably because friends is the only thing we had in past life.

So in the end, the duo have their own thing going. If you want to attach to them, well, we'd need some actual plan and good ideas on how to do it, lest it be an awkward waste of time. (Chiefly QM's time on writing it out.)
>>

Elle already evolved, as did the brothers.

>>
>>37597035
>them vs Lyra and Arya, the ones who bring back the biggest prey win
1)Bros WILL lose it.
2)In the attempt to get the biggest catch, they may run into something too hot to handle.

I remind you, they're generic 1-evo arachne.
Lyra is triple-blessed highly trained wizarding twice-evolved spiderbutt. She alone can wreck them. Arya is also going to be twice-evolved and is also trained her ass off under mom. She can likely wreck them too.
>>
The night was normal.
Giant spider normal, of course.
Not human normal.

You live in a giant tree and consider a bear to be an easy meal. You have come to accept that your normal is so far off in the distance from other peoples that it can no longer be glimpsed.
You are fine with that.

Anyway, night was normal. Sara stayed up too late trying to read books, and you wound up dragging her away to bed as you snuffed her lights out and Mom laughed.
Aria had managed to crawl down from the arena, but hadn't quite made it to the dinner circle, and Elle had thrown a blanket over her, making her look like some sort of tragic spider traffic accident, legs and one arm hanging out from beneath the white sheet.

Your smallest sister had attempted to complain bitterly, but you just held her close and dozed off hugging her. She isn't anywhere near strong enough to pry her way free.

And then came morning.

Aria was the first one up, Shouting triumphantly, cackling and flexing and generally making a lot of noise until Mom threw a balled up blanket at her head.
"Ahahahaha- No- wait!"

When she fought her way free of the blanket, you peeked, cracking a few eyes to see what the deal was.

Aria had grown.

She stood taller than before, easily. Maybe a little shy of Mom? You pushed your way up onto your hands, struggling to free yourself from your personal monster pile to get a better look.

She had horns, much like Mom, dividing her hair- That was where the similarities ended, though. Her pair jutted up and out, branching almost randomly. Also, they were apparently formed of a dark, smoky sort of crystal, shot through with glittering blue. Her hands, rather than simply mimicking Mom's, had followed suite: A smoky sort of crystal inset in the chitin, with veins of the blue crawling across her shell.
>>
>>37597286
She catches you staring, bearing her fangs and grinning, one finger extended accusingly.
"I'll have you sparring in the ring, yes!"
"Okay."

"You're supposed to be intimidated."
"Too early."

She sighs.
Then points again.
"Sara!"
And you turn, and find you smallest sister stretching and yawning, a new form all her own.

A bit bigger than before. Barely noticeable, though.
Her speckled shell is practically glimmering in the morning light, each dot raised, reflecting light all around. Your fingers drift over one- it's like a faceted gem, but part of her shell? There's no part where they're pushed in, just chitin through and through.

She's also sporting a tiny pair of horns- maybe two inches tall at best, and barely pushing through her hair, but each is a brilliant white sort of crystal, almost glowing. Or maybe actually glowing.

Your sister is currently trying to chase her own butt around so she can get a better view of the changes.
You can show her to the mirror later. After more sleep, maybe.

You settle your studious little sister with a hug, pinning her arms to hger sides and pulling her to a halt as you congratulate her.
"Well done, yes."
"You can't say I am the smallest anymore, yes."
"No, you definitely are."

She frowns, and her horns spark to light as she glares.
Magic powered then.

You laugh and grab one of the horns- It's warm to the touch- and apparently sensitive, judging by the way your sister immediately yelp, yanking her head from your hands and covering the little crystal protrusions.

All in all, a good start to the morning.

As far as I gathered, she IS challenging us.

Although in a spar, the difference probably won't be too overwhelming. We both got 2-evo swole, we both got mad training. Lyra has a little edge, but dice will play a big role.

Honestly, we were never super good at the spear.
We're more about just sort of brute forcing it.
>>
>>37597539
Nah it's not like that.
Lyra and Sara were both variant Widow Arachne.
Grave was available for Lyra (retaining her ruby variant, but we just had to get MOAR), so it would be for Sara.

However, Grace and Wolf are martial-themed evolutions. She's a caster who really doesn't lift, out of three shown to us she would only have inclinations for Orb, and even that is unlikely due to lack of weaving practice.
>>

Aria is a half Gem lord.
