“So here's where we stand,” Karen announces, rubbing her temples lightly. The sudden beginning to this morning's briefing snaps you out of your unusual torpor as the lights dim in the pilots' ready room aboard the Nagato, affording you a better view of the images your CO has prepared for today. “ALICE? Pull up reference grids around 30 degrees North, 87 degrees West please.”

“Florida panhandle, aye, ma'am,” ALICE replies, her avatar playfully dragging a new window into view on the big central screen where it snaps to fit the frame.

“This is where we're heading,” Karen explains, pointing out a moving blip over the ocean. “We're here, on route across the central Atlantic, a few hours out from American airspace.”

“So ALICE found something unusual, right?” Audrey interjects. “It's gotta be something significant if we're all here.”

“It is,” Karen replies. “ALICE?”

“I believe I have isolated output from a Minovsky scanner, similar to our own systems,” ALICE explains, toying with her russet hair with one finger as her avatar paces across the topo map from off-screen. “Increased Titans comm traffic makes it seem that they are disinclined to allow us to return to space, but similarly disinclined to make an aggressive move.”

Karen frowns at you and your teammates, arms crossed and deep in thought. “I'd thought we could slink away over the ocean under stealth cover, and leave for orbit without being picked up. But this suggests that they may well be capable of tracking us even with our countermeasures.”

“Well, then we'll have to hit the source,” Carya replies. “Unless you're concerned about acting in a first strike role?”

Karen nods. “We're already toeing the political line here, so it'd pay to be seen as defending rather than attacking.”

“If we can help it,” Haman points out.

You eye the map carefully, spotting the likely responders at airbases throughout the American southeast. “And if we pop our stealth, they'll know we're coming and scramble to try and intercept.”

“That's the risk, yes,” Karen agrees.

“So what's our plan? Do we attack, or do we defend?” Emma presses.

“Or is there an alternative we're missing?” Ilia muses quietly.

Christina points quietly at a spot on the map denoting the MPIWS station's likely location. “So we need to strike here? That puts two bases in intercept range, and we'd need to reverse course and travel around to avoid both.”

“That's our only target,” Rossweisse declares. “The very thing that gives them intercept capacity, the station itself.”

“Without it they'd be blind,” Audrey agrees.

“But attack it, and they'll see us coming, won't they?” Diana pouts. “Why can't things be simple?”

“I miss simple too, kid,” Defrah sighs in agreement, scratching at her prosthetic knee as her leg rests on the coffee table in front of her.

"We're overlooking something entirely. What Titans dissenter groups are in the region? There's gotta be some Zeon or Loyalist Federation strongholds in the region. We make contact with them, they goad the Titans into making a move, and we have justification for attacking all of their bases at once with "Intent"."

“Tell me something,” you mutter, eying a small mark on the map of what used to be the state of Florida. “The Minovsky scanner... it doesn't pick up internal combustion, does it?”

ALICE shakes her head. “No, Commander. It does not. I'm afraid I have to sift through the regular data from our conventional detection equipment to locate and track threats such as fighter aircraft and tanks.”

“We've got 'em,” you grin.

Catrina stares at you, her red eyes filled with incredulity. “Ohh no. No, no, nono.”

“Oh yes, yes yes,” you counter. “It's a great idea! We'll have so much fun!”

“We're the only two pilots with the training for that!” she protests. “And where are we gonna find something like that?”

“In Pensacola,” you offer. “What are they gonna do, tell us we can't have them?”

“I feel like I'm missing something,” Haman sighs. “What are you two yapping about?”

“He's plotting to use old surplus fighter planes to make the strike!” Carya explains.

“Hey now,” you reply, “in my defense, the American Naval Aviation Museum IS in Pensacola, and they do top-notch resto work. Load a few of those old girls up with some m-particle warheads and they'd never suspect that sort of punch.”

“He has a point,” Audrey offers. “We could use our stealth field to trigger a response, then have the two aircraft strike the Scanner station that's directing their suits. They'd be blinded, and we'd be laughing.”

“See,” you add. “Audrey says I have a point! Come on, it can't be that bad.”

Carya frowns. “I suppose if we drew off their defenses first we'd stand a better chance of surviving the trip... but still, it's been forever since I've flown one of those old things.”

Flying a Saberfish or older fighter is tantamount to suicide in this day and age. It'll haft to be one hell of a good distraction for us to get through the 40mm bofers.

So, what's a good distraction? Sending our suit out to attack a secondary objective drawing flak from the RADAR installation? It's the simplest, easiest method short of pulling a Blitzkrieg maneuver on all of the sites at once. Catch the enemy mobile suits in their docking cradles and free to steal by an angsting teenager.

Yeah, I really don't like this plan. Do we have to pilot them? What's the range on our current funnel tech? Maybe we could rig the planes for remote operation. I remember that Haman was able to guide funnel missiles as far away as the Core Fighter's operational range, so it might be possible.
>>
>>37572630
It is suicidal, in my opinion. There's too many unknowns for us to pull it off effectively. We don't even know the garrison strength protecting the damn RADAR. You don't attack an enemy until you've gathered as much intel as possible. Then there's the simple fact it's a god damn plane in an age of Federation mechas folded one-gorrion times.

This time, it's your turn to frown... damn you and your nagging sense of responsibility. Keeps you from doing all sorts of fun things.

"Actually, now that you mention it I haven't been behind the stick of a jet for years myself," you admit. "Tell you what, let's make a stopover in Pensacola and we'll see what they have and whether we can fly them. If that doesn't put us in a better mood about it, we'll adjust the plan to work without them."

Carya nods, relieved. "Thanks, Dom. I know flying an F-14's something you always wanted to do, but I just don't think now is the time."

"We'll lay in the course in a few minutes," Karen says, dismissing the topic. "Audrey, please work on the exact order of battle while we're en route."

"Now, there was something else. ALICE?"

ALICE looks vaguely uncomfortable. "Well, I do have that report completed and ready for your review. Are you... sure?"

Karen bites her lip, thinking.

>>37572929

Wouldn't know. I'm fairly unfamiliar with the effects, not being overly familiar with Gundam in general.
If the Minovsky Particles would fry the computer, couldn't that be circumvented by aiming it correctly? Or is this dome in a location where the missile would need last-minute maneuvering ability to hit?

Also, what about shielding the guidance systems?
>>
>>37572934

we only need to use one and set it to veer violently off course and into the facility... Such a horrible accident... Nobody expected the Nazi's to sabotage it's guidence systems....
>>
>>37572957
We can shield the guidance systems. The problem is that Minovsky particles disrupt radar guidance, so it would be worthless anyway. Putting both shielded electronics and sensors capable of penetrating Minovsky interference on something the size of a missile isn't feasible at this point in the timeline. It will be eventually, but for right now it's really hard to project force beyond visual range. That's half the reason mobile suits are so tall, to give them a higher perspective to aim from.
>>

Also I'm so late, I'm sorry
>>
>>37572957
It basically comes straight down to SCIENCE! It's the reason why both Zeon and the Feds employed dumbfire rockets almost exclusively. M-Particles screw with computers or outright fry them if enough of them are present. It's the reason why teenagers use mobile weapons and not computers.
>>
>>37573036

Pigeon missiles.
>>
>>37573149

What's the viability here? Those sound short ranged, from the name. Though that could easily be deceptive.
>>
>>37573167
They were pigeons trained to guide missiles to a target during WW2 if I remember correctly.
>>
>>37573167
Pretty sure he's joking. They're literally pigeon-guided missiles. Like a little kamikaze plane with a pigeon in the cockpit, trained via operant conditioning to steer towards targets. They worked terribly.
>>
>>37573200

You wot.

I thought it was an actual missile type, like Phoenix or Sidewinder.

You got me.
>>
>>37573220
I was only halfway joking.
I mean, it IS a viable method. But it's not exactly easy to implement. Or quick. Or reliable. Or sane.
>>
>>37573220
>they worked terrible

Not really. They actually worked unlike the Russians who trained the bomb-dogs on their own tanks.
>>
>>37573224
Nope. It was a real thing. The pigeon would be trained to peck at a dot on the screen, which would send signals to the missile to change course.
>>
>>37573254
Terribly compared to electronic guidance systems. Yes, Project Pigeon worked. But it was expensive and unreliable. Not to mention that no one would take it seriously. Because come on. Pigeon missiles.
>>
>>37573272

Honestly, that wasn't the part I was surprised at. I was expecting the name to be less...literal. The pigeons don't honestly surprise me, thinking about it.

I've been here too long.
>>
>>37573290
It worked in the sense that some dude decided to weaponize pigeons to bomb people. Almost accurately. I'd sum that up as an accomplishment even if it wasn't feasible in the long run.
>>
>>37573119
Something is wrong. Something is very, very wrong. Even your non-psychic crew can feel it. and those of you who can feel what Karen is feeling are starting to dread what ALICE may have found.

"I've never seen you this tense," you observe quietly. "Come on, Karen. Just have her tell us already."

Karen nods, having apparently found her resolve. "ALICE, please tell us everything. Tell them what I had you look into, and tell us everything you found."

"Well," ALICE begins. "This is a map of the mean monthly air and sea surface temperatures for the Earth, dated UC 0060. Also factored in are UV penetration indices and precipitation data."

The image behind her begins to shift. At first slowly, but then in UC 0079 it shifts dramatically. Droughts in Africa, South America, and Asia. Mile after mile of coastline vanishes along with the ice caps and glaciers. Temperatures go wild.

Haman stares in wide-eyed horror. "Christ, I had no idea it was that bad."

"It gets worse," ALICE warns her. Suddenly the dying Earth is gone, replaced by what looks like a massive spreadsheet. Agricultural output, you figure. And the numbers don't fill you with a lot of hope.

"The figures indicate that by the end of the century agricultural output on Earth will only be sustainable at one-third to half its level prior to Operation British."

"Forget about political order," Emma mutters darkly, "we'd be likely to avoid mass starvation in some of the newer colonies with that sort of drop."

ALICE nods in agreement. "By my estimates, even with systematic and well-calculated rationing one seventh of the human population will be unable to survive. Quality of life for the remainder will be drastically harmed."
(1/2)
>>
>>37573434
Damn it, we're going to have to pull a Char, aren't we? Okay, let's propose ideas for encouraging mass emigration to space that don't involve colony drops.
>>
>>37573434
We Captain Planet Quest now.
>>
>>37573434
And this is surprising how. On top of the nuclear shoahs, chemical and biological agents released, the planet is lucky to even have that much time left to be a proper bread basket. Now if the Zekes would stop dropping O'Neil cylinders we'll need to convert into space-based farmland...
>>
>>37573516
Showing this report to the Federation, the Moon, and the colonies?
That EVERYONE needs to start making more farms, and entire colonies devoted solely to agricultural output, and finding some way to genetically engineer an edible, nutritional, hardy seaweed species we can farm on the Earth.
>>
>>37573434
"Does the Federation know?" Carya asks her quietly, drawing dozens of eyes to her as she sits in the dark. "Do they know what's about to happen to the Earth Sphere?"

ALICE gives her a pained look. "Who do you think I cribbed the figures from?"

"Mass panic," you mutter. "If everyone knew, we'd be in huge trouble. So they're keeping it all hushed up, no doubt trying to work some miracle."

"How do you fix a dying planet?" Audrey shakes her head. "I'm not sure we win this one, Dom. As a species."

Suddenly, Panini's drive to colonize the Red Planet makes sense. It's a race against time he can't win though. Not in this lifetime anyway.

"In the end, what does it matter? We can't stop the inevitable, only delay, lesson the impact, and prepare for the worst. Earth is fucked if those charts are accurate. We can't save it, but we can save our childrens' children."

Panini's short term solution to mining resources from Mars might hold the key to a united peoples... unfortunatly it is currently under the control of a mad-man...

Another line of inquiry might be seeing what Jupiter is doing to sustain it's population. After all, they have fuck all besides the copious amounts of H3 that they ship to earth...

>>37571871
Obviously we need to restore Earth's climate by dropping a colony onto the exact opposite side!

You can trust me on this, I'm a highly skilled geologist who was the chief consultant for the movies The Core and 2014.
>>
The logical step here is to start hauling in Ivuna-series carbonaceous chondrite asteroids. They're on average about 22% water by mass. They also have significant quantities of amino acids and aromatic hydrocarbons. From those you can synthesize mass quantities of fertilizer. Then you take the rock and metals in the asteroids and put those to constructing agricultural habitats. Their design will be specialized for hydroponics, so no need for gravity to keep a soil layer down. That means they don't need to rotate, so they're much simpler to construct. You could probably make one as easy as extruding molten silica into a bubble and adding some structural reinforcement. Actually, given that we still have the Solar System Array in this timeline, that simplifies things pretty nicely. Place a large chunk of water ice inside a mined-out asteroid, seal the hole, and focus the Solar System on it until the things melts entirely. Gravity will cause it to form a spherical shape over time, while the presence of the vaporizing water inside will blow it out like a balloon into a hollow sphere. Then we just have to wait for it to cool and add in the electrical systems and plumbing. If we start now we can probably get a few dozen built in time. Might be enough, might not, but it's better than nothing.
>>
>>37573559
"The EFF has to be working on this," you point out. "ALICE? Any intel on that?"

"They've been quietly encouraging the formation of agricultural colonies, " she explains. "That would mean a small improvement in the long-term outlook. But it seems they have largely resigned themselves to the event."

"Titans too," Haman adds. "They'd make a power grab at the drop of a hat, they can't be planning not to make use of the situation."

"Could be that they'll push to reserve extra shares of what food remains for the EFF military and for Earth itself," Karen muses. "Slash offworld exports to do it."

"And make the situation in the colonies worse?" Marida asks. "You really think they'd do that?"

"Since when do they care about the colonies?" Ilia points out.

"Mars..." you mutter.

Rossweisse nods thoughtfully. "They plan to start from nothing. How?"

That's really a good point, you think silently. Mars has hardly any atmosphere and no plan life, and yet Bernini plans to have Axis and its inhabitants live off the resources there. He even plans to build an army: how? How could that be possible? At this point in the terraforming process, they should just be getting around to encouraging microbes and mosses and algae to grow there, not food staples. And certainly not in any quantity.

"Astaroth," Haman scowls. "Of course."

>Astaroth? What's that? What is Bernini planning?

I've read that series, actually. Fairly good, when Ringo isn't just using it as a platform to rant about politics. But the ideas I proposed have been around since the 60s and 70s. People have thought about this before, we've been planning it for almost as long as we've been able to reach orbit. There has to be something we can do.
>>
>>37574177
The only reason the present day Earth is capable of supporting the massive overpopulation right now is due to a handful of factors. Cheap oil, massive stretches of arable land, and our technology. The end of cheap oil would see oil prices skyrocketing and the massive hike in food prices. A couple degrees up or down in temperature would see the starvation of millions in months as grain stocks around the world plummet. An X-Flare would knock out the world's power-grid and have billions starving. Right now, we're subsisting on borrowed time as it is. And we haven't even had an all-out nuclear war or an impacter asteroid.

Think of the situation the Earth Sphere is facing right now. They're fucked.
>>
>>37573982
"Whatever it is, my inner Catholic doesn't like it one bit," you mutter. "What is this "Astaroth" thing?"

"A virus," Haman explains. "Designed in California during the Zeon occupation. It was supposed to be the final weapon to "liberate the colonies"... by rendering Earth uninhabitable. Choking its agricultural land and its cities with mutated, uncontrollable forests."

"And you think Bernini plans to modify that virus?" you ask.

Catrina shakes her head violently. "No," she insists. "That's not possible! I was on the op that covered for the transfer of Astaroth to Australia. We failed: the only sample was blown up with the shuttle that carried it. And good fucking riddance! I made sure the Feds had the flight plans!"

"Its designer is still alive," Haman tells her quietly. "On Axis. I met him once at a party."

"If we know about the Federations internal reports," Rossweisse interrupts, "Mars probably does too."

"There's no way they haven't got spies all throughout the Federation," Audrey agrees. "If Bernini got Martion agriculture going, he could replace Earth's prominence in the balance of power through the system. He'll have won by default."

It's Tiberium meets Origin: Spirits of the Past basically. Exclusion zones, mutations, the ground itself would be trying to kill you on top of a crazy religious cult.

"The easiest way to combat that would be to quietly leak it to the Feds and Titans. They would have the manpower to track the virus down. We're one renegade group against an army. Not much we can do on our own accept ring the bells in warning and be vigilant."

>Sounds fine, so long as people don't starve to death en masse... but what's the catch?
How can it terraform that fast? We're talking about bare soil, with no life ever having been there. In an atmosphere that, even with Bernini's changes over the past few months, can't be higher in pressure than a few kilopascals. And almost all the water and nutrients being locked deep underground. What is this Astaroth made of that it can survive those conditions?

There's no putting that genie back in the bottle once it's out, unfortunately. If we had another planet (Hmm, Mars seems like a good testbed) then we could release it there before unleashing the C'thauliflower on Earth.
>>
>>37574710
It's made of bullshit is what it is.

It's something that exists in the setting that does something that by all accounts should be impossible by conventional means. Same as Minovsky particle physics, really.
>>
>>37574534

Bernini is going to try and cripple earth's agricultural production as soon as Mars starts producing... If he was a more reasonable person, there wouldn't be as much of a problem, we will have to deal with him sooner or later... Titans are liable to try to take over the Mars Terra-forming project, but will settle for destroying/crippling it if they can't have it themselves...

I am assuming that the Mars Zeon forces are loyal to Bernini not Zeon itself...

I predict that Bernini is going to try and drop Axis on the Earth and fortify Mars so that everyone on Earth and in Earth Orbit will starve, then after years of attrition he sends his forces in to mop up the remaining survivors...
>>
>>37574755
>before unleashing the C'thauliflower on Earth.

"What's the catch?" you ask. "No way a guy like that's doing this for the betterment of the human race, and Axis is still moving towards the Earth sphere."

"That bothers me too," Karen admits. "It seems like he's posturing for an attack on the Federation itself, maybe to finish off the Earth as a useful home for humanity?"

"That sounds fairly Zeonish," Cynthia agrees. "But more than a little petty."

"Admittedly he doesn't go in for 'just' petty," Haman frowns. "That man's as much about big schemes and grand designs. Why just win when you can rub your enemy's face in it?"

"I see," you mutter. "Rub their noses in it, huh?"

Haman nods.

"ALICE, please pull up a current chart of orbital debris," you request.

Audrey's eyes widen as she realizes what you're getting at. "Oh, fuck me..."

"There," she continues, pointing out a band of low-Earth orbit objects about 200 miles above the planet's surface. "The most crowded section of space. It's got all our ComSats, tons of debris from early space missions in the AD period, and the first and second ISS stations. That's what he's aiming for, not the Earth."

"An ablation cascade event," you summarize. "A runaway chain of orbital debris impacts that would make navigating from the atmosphere to Earth orbit impossible due to the density and velocity of possible impactors."

"He'd do it, too," Carya replies in sudden realization. "With no support from Earth the EFSF and Titans forces would be crippled and low on supplies."

"And the Federation assembly and other Earthnoids would be forced to watch while Bernini took over the Earth Sphere almost unchallenged," you add. "Beautiful."

We need everyone we can get. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. One crisis at a time. First we deal with the Titans MPIWS, then we get to space, then we pass along information to our allies.

You would. But at this point, a lot of things are handled through mass drivers rather than multi-stage rockets, which has cut down on new debris dramatically.

Large, old satellites are also routinely de-orbited by crews from the EFSF and several private contractors, but a lot of their focus has to also be on the colony clusters. So not as much gets done in LEO as could be.

"What would Char do," you mutter to yourself.

"You mean the Space Prince of Bel Air?" Artesia mutters, finally speaking up after a long period of silence. Several people around the room can't help but snicker in spite of the seriousness of the situation.

"The same guy, yeah."

"Well, he's so fixated on Earth that he'll see the Axis drop operation as a direct attack," Artesia replies. "He won't even consider the possibility that it's meant to keep people on the Earth as opposed to driving them off, and I guess in his current state he'd try to destroy Axis at all costs."

"And make the cascade event all but inevitable," Haman adds, turning to face Artesia. "Damn. You're probably right."

"What we'd need to do in that event is use Axis' thermonuclear engines to adjust its trajectory outward," Audrey replies. "Cause it to ricochet out of Earth's gravity well from its shallow angle and high velocity."

"And Amuro'd probably go after those engines to destroy them," Artesia replies. "As part of an attempt to stop the asteroid before it reaches Earth... and probably ending with it falling into the planet due to its decreased velocity."

"Cima would focus on the escort fleet," you point out. "That's where her battle lies, and as pragmatic as she can be she's the type to go straight for the jugular and leave stopping Axis to the EFSF."

Shit... none of that sounds good, and even worse every word of it sounds exactly like what the parties concerned would do. They're all in it to do the best they can, but it's the fact that their priorities and methods are so different that they'll all end up working alone. And in this case, you fear that'll be fatal.

"As for Titans, they probably plan on countering power with power," Karen finishes. "Probably with a superweapon of some kind."

"Great," Catrina moans. "Just fuckin' great. That always works out wonderfully for everyone involved."

"What?" she asks. "What's up?"

"We can still unfuck this," you tell her. "Karen? You think we can get this "Blex Fo-whatever" guy on the phone? The one from that new faction?"

"Probably," she replies. "May want to do that after getting back into space though."

"That's fine. We need to track down Amuro and Char, coordinate with Cima, and figure out what Titans is going to do," you explain your thought process. "Take Titans out of the picture and make sure nobody ends up interfering with each other and giving Bernini a free win."

"Audrey?" you finish. Your co-pilot looks up expectantly. "Talk with the Doc, Emary, and Nina. See if you can get a fix on what superweapon Titans is planning on using."

Audrey grins. "Whatever this "Six Shooter" project we've heard of is, I bet that's what it's meant to do. I'm on it."

Fun fact? Jamitov already wants to court-martial you. But with a nearly self-sufficient battleship and some of the finest mobile suits and pilots, and with popular support, it's very difficult to get anyone to take action.

They're also finding it difficult to blackball you like they did with Bright.

Which is what puts you in a dangerous position.
>>
We might want to consider jacking this "Astaroth" thing and using it on Venus. Which, unlike Mars, can hold an atmosphere in the long run.

Hell, introduce it by smacking the planet at high speed with Axis, then fling some iceteroids at it for good measure.

In the interim, we might want to invest in cryogenics and mind uploads.

The only "good" thing here is that we're still not even a decade past the OYW, so the total human population in the solar system is probably 3-4 billion tops.

Mineva stands triumphantly on the bed with a towel wrapped around her neck, making sweeping gestures and commands to her "troops": Marida, Diana, and Cynthia. The trio of red-headed clones zoom around the room as Artesia makes a show of fending them off.

"Capture her, for the glory of Zeon!" Mineva cackles. "Go, my minions!"

Marida and Diana move to flank Artesia, making little "purupuru" noises to imitate beam rifle fire, while Cynthia moves straight ahead to try and tackle her target to the ground.

"I'll never give up!" Artesia cries dramatically as Cynthia glomps onto her left side. The two are thrown off balance, as Cynthia's actually about the same size as Artesia is.

"No! That's impossible!" Mineva cries as Artesia "breaks" Cynthia's grip and the red-head drops gently to the deck, where she lays still. When she accidentally makes eye contact with you, she's all smiles.

"No Earthnoid can be that good... unless!?"

"That's right!" Artesia declares. "The Grim Guard will put a stop to your mad ambitions!"

"Stop her!" Mineva cries. "Minions! Defend me! HOLD TO YOUR OATHS!"

Marida and Diana step back into Artesia's way, still making the purupuru noises as the older woman slides past them, and they go reeling dramatically as the daughter of Zeon makes a somewhat impressive dash towards Mineva.

"NOOOO!!!!" Mineva cries dramatically as Artesia swoops in and picks her up, spinning her round in triumph. "You win this time, Grim Guard!"

Your applause announces your presence to Mineva, who's the only one there who couldn't feel your presence the moment you arrived.

"Commander!" she blushes. "I, this isn't what it looks like!"

You can't help but laugh. "You mean to tell me it's not fun? Cause that's what it looked like to me."

"Oh," Mineva sighs.

Cynthia raises herself up off the deck, brushing some of her hair out of her eyes. You've noticed that since she arrived, she's been growing it longer.

“I... for what?” you ask, a little confused at the wording

“You don't remember, do you?”

You shake your head. “Not much, but I put things together this morning while you were still asleep.”

“I can hardly say I loved him as a brother, since we rarely saw him," Cynthia admits. "On his orders, we rarely saw men of any kind. He said it was to prevent us from thinking about anything... what was his word? Unladylike?”

You shake your head. "And so you were confused? Or curious?"

“Bit of both, really. When I got over being afraid of you and the others, I started to feel... warm. Happy. Safe. I thought it must be love.” She then falls silent, still leaning against you as she ponders her next words carefully.

>Ask her what "sort" of love it was, or if she knew
>Ask her something else

Stroke her hair and ask her what her fellow sisters think of love. Question if she wants to share the love she felt with her fellow sisters.
>>
>>37577493
Whatever else happens here, we need to make it clear that she is loved. It doesn't have to be a physical or romantic thing, but we definitely love the Purus. How could you not? They're awesome.
>>
>>37577583
This.
>>
>>37577493
"In the end, it doesn't really matter, does it? You're here with us and me now. You're part of my family now. And I love my dysfunctional band of misfits that I call family."
>>
A thought, now that the Purus have gotten some outside stimuli, have their psychic signatures changed any?

There are several, long seconds of silence before she continues. “I had no idea before just recently that there were different kinds of love... like loving a family member, or a friend. Our older brother was so focused on repressing our sexuality that he forgot to show us any other kind of love.”

“So you didn't know what you were feeling,” you conclude. “I see... and I'm sorry I didn't see it sooner.”

You feel Cynthia's mood brighten up a little. “S'okay. My sisters and I are a weird case, really. But last night, I worked up the nerve to ask if you could help me figure it all out.”

“And did you find an answer?”

Cynthia's shoulder digs into your side a little as she reminisces. “I felt all those things again; the warmth, the safety, the kindness, but only those things. No real desire for the physical stuff again, and no stronger than when we weren't.... you know. Together. Like that.”

You frown, feeling something very different from the sense of resolution you expected. “You still don't know, do you?”

“No, I don't,” she answers sadly. “Because now I've noticed I've never felt that kind of desire, and I don't know if I even can. I don't have any answers... I love my not-quite brother, and for now I just want things to go back the way they were yesterday if they can.”

There are tears shining in her deep, blue eyes as she looks up at you, though her voice wouldn't hint at it. “Is that selfish? Would you be okay with me being like your little sister, knowing that things might suddenly get weird between us again some day? And that I may never be able to tell you exactly what it is I feel towards you?”

>Response?
>>
>>37577784
"Of course."
>>
>>37577776
Very little, though exposure to them has made it clear: they're not QUITE as identical as they seemed at first.
>>
>>37577784
"Of course I can. I don't think that's selfish at all, Cynthia. You've got a right to explore your feelings and decide on them in your own time. And no matter what form our relationship takes, familial or romantic, physical or chaste, I'm still going to love you. So don't worry about it."
>>
>>37577784
"I like you a lot, Cynthia, and I'd hate to see what we've.. you've managed to accomplish in this short of time."

Give her a kiss.

"Do you want to, y'know, actually do it where I can give you my full attention? Maybe you'll find your answer."
>>
>>37577784
I don't know if we can't but if that what you want than let's go forward with that. I'm going to love you no matter what.
>>
>>37577784
Of course, if that is what you want. Wether or not you ever find the awnser for what love you feel, know that I will always be here for you whenever you need me. That won't change, no matter what you decide.
>>
>>37577943
This.
>>
>>37577784
Just give her a hug and pat on the head.

"If you want to keep the relationship platonic, that's fine. If you want to be a big, dysfunctional family, that's fine too. In the end, it's your choice. My bed is always open if you have more 'nightmares'."

>>37577865

Ah, so that's a good sign then. They're actually developing their own individual personalities and whatnot.

inb4 Cynthia finds out about BL through the pop-idol murderbot and ships Dom and Glemy
>>
>>37578051
You know, given that ALICE is specifically programmed to go through this exact same set of emotional responses to Dom, I would not be surprised if she is writing slashfic about him.
>>
>>37577784
"Of course," you reassure her, giving her shoulders a squeeze. "You have every right to explore your feelings and decide on them in your own time. Just remember that I care about you a lot, and that regardless of how our relationship may change that fact will always stay the same.

"So don't worry about it, okay?"

After a moment, Cynthia returns your embrace.

"Yeah... thanks, Dom."

It's a nice feeling, you realize. Loving and being loved without conditions or expectations. Time just seems to crawl as you enjoy the moment... and you realize you're not alone in that moment.

"Touching," a vaguely familiar female voice interrupts. "But I fear I need to interrupt."

And that's all for tonight!

Thanks for showing up. Hope you enjoyed the first day back, and with any luck I'll see you same time tomorrow night.

Archive's up, and I'll stick around to answer questions.

Thanks for running.
>>
>>37578163
Yeah, but the AI was initially meant to be used in a mech piloted by one person, right? So, she would be having these 'feelings' for the entire crew in the end. It would not be entirely directed at us, but the entire ship. That would make ALICE a slut. It'd be a motherly love, basically, the desire to protect those that reside inside her.

Thanks for running. See you tomorrow.

Also, not a question, but pic related is where my mind went when Dom walked in on Mineva's play time. Accurate to the scene? No. Amusing? Yes.
>>
>>37578301
True. Though it's probably a bit stronger towards Dom due to being the first person to reach out to her and treat her like a person. So I'm still going to assume she's writing weird slashfic. I'm thinking the sort of story that Setsuna would get off to. "Oh, Lilium-kun, hold me tight and never let go!"
>>
>>37578225
Will the Titans have a ship called the Maya or Kaga?
>>
>>37578394
Nope. Not really fitting their whole naming scheme of "Earth pride system-wide".
>>
So, either we're getting another psychic parasite encounter because of the epic orgy or we're hallucinating in our cockpit after getting shot down.

My money is on the psychic parasite.

>>37578225
Foursome with the Purus when?
>>
>>37578477
So we'll get something like Implacable or Indomitable?
>>
>>37578521
Any name is better than Invincible. A vessel named A Giant Phallus is still better than serving on an Invincible. That name is just begging to be cored with a fusion lance.
>>
>>37578511
Maybe? To be fair, we have a LOT of female characters for us to vaguely recall their voices. And the past times we've had weird Newtype dreams they've been pretty blatantly not real. This seems too real so far. I think it's just someone walking in on us.
>>
>>37578564
So what you're saying is that we should name the next ship we obtain the Unsinkable
>>
>>37578511
At this rate? Maybe soon, maybe never. Leaning towards never.

And to confirm no, the "vaguely familiar" voice isn't human.
>>
>>37578614
No way. The Titanic.
What could possibly go wrong?
>>
>>37578587
I'm still hoping that we make a contract with Descartes analogue and receive a Dick familiar. But yeah, you're probably right.

>>37578614
>Unsinkable

Clearly, irony has not reached peek capacity yet. Both Invincible and Unsinkable would be in the same fleet and get cored by a Zaku II.
>>
>>37578658
Oh shit.
Our Newtypeness is so high that we can now talk to our mobile suit.
>>
>>37578714
Setsuna will be so jealous.
>>
>>37578658
>leaning towards never

We will haft to rectify that. At least, eventually. How are we going to justify getting a bigger bed if we do not have the bodies to fill it with or a Luna Titanium pelvis? There's 9 more Purus to collect in the end.
>>
>>37578762
This.
>>
>>37578809
See, once we collect all of the Purus, we unlock Glemy. Glemy is a shota Gihren. We'd have a fourth claim on the Zabi legacy. This of course implies that we can get to him before Papsmere makes Glemy his woman.
>>
>>37578762
nah man, imouto all the way
>>
>>37578762
Agreed.
