Food, such an important resource that is almost taken for granted, but for you, no for your it cannot be ignored. Your reserves of nutrients are running perilously low, and by day break tomorrow your hive will be starving. Fortunately you have managed to build a secure base and expand your natural defenses against the environment, however that would little to abate the coming hunger. Your thoughts shift as you parse all the information you have been gathering up to this moment, from your less than gracious landing to having crawled into the cave, only one large predator was discovered. Perhaps such a beast could be hunted, if it us not territorial and by definition spread out into large areas. Foraging has brought some small returns, nothing that could feed your hive in the long term, perhaps not abate the coming crisis.Your thinker chimes in, “Sister I have completed my task!” You are most pleased with your sibling, from its navigational skills to its abilities researching into various topics, he has been of incredible help. And now you have managed to peer into the Vespers, which is what you are calling the local flying mammals. It appears their wings structure is rather simple enough to recreate, and it is used as a sort of blanket, each one of the four wings are covered in capillaries and fat pockets, acting as radiators. The wings do not just freeze over, much like yours did. This could prove useful, and you have also identified genes that if active could increase the accumulation of fat by these creatures. But to properly breed them at an acceptable for livestock will require deeper research.

The lead creature emits a high pitch sound, its different from before “KEEIP, KEUP, KEEK” They charge, just as you expected and you have your drones pounce. Your third drone manages to stab one the creatures that carries a now dead drone. It looks directly at your own surviving drone, “KEEK!” is sounds in disgust. You will not go down, not like this, the drone goes to stab again but the beast he is currently attached to drops on its side pinning the drone down. >>37518658...fairly cheap and expendable, all they need are those bio-rifle cannons and they'd be pretty well off against what we've seen so far on the surface. How much more would wings add to make a wasp breed that can fly in the planets freezing cold atmosphere? flying would make those KEEK fuckers running for their damn lives.
>>37518306>>37518390>>37518460Do we go ahead with this?also do not forget:>Winter worker with wings. 11N per egg. upkeep 6Nis a possibility.
>>37518700I meant 3 Soldiers damn it>>37518712Add 3 soldiers >>37518700
>>37518658The poor man's Warrior....>>37518701we got no metal dude, we can't build those.
>>37518700>>37518732Agreeing with this fellow here.that would make > lay thinker eggs 6N per egg. (12N)> Winter workers 8N per egg (40N)> Winter worker with wings. 11N per egg. (22N)> Winter soldiers 18N (54N)Total 128N
>>37518712eh, I want at least one warrior to protect our foraging workers but other wise sure.
>>37518735Don't we have miners? That'd be easy to fix but we'd have to spawn a smelter/refinery/something to process it...
>>37518712Yup, plus warriors as per >>37518754Then we need to get some FOOD. Hopefully algae research will finish soon and we can look into getting crops.
>>37518735well we could throw some wings on them later and have them act as a fast acting light infantry once we start rolling out our real solders
>>37518800Someone had to say it eventually.
>>37518754>>37518700So everyone ok with:> lay thinker eggs 6N per egg. (12N)> Winter workers 8N per egg (40N)> Winter worker with wings. 11N per egg. (22N)> Winter soldiers 18N (54N)Total 128NYes | No 5 votes to decide.
>>37518800No, you're Bucky, not Bug.
>>37518841Still feels like too much but fuck it fine. You guys just better have a plan for them otherwise the hive starves in under 2 cycles with the new upkeep. Seriously we're gonna need to pull something great.

>>37518893What we now have to do is hunt hunt hunt no matter what.
>>37518893i hope we starve and die so i can laugh at the stupid people
>>37518893I was thinking that we use the flyers to scout and the warriors to hunt/forage farther out, or at least protect the workers who do.
>>37518893It takes time for them to hatch, and without any ability to find food we will starve anyway. It's more important to increase our income than keep our costs low right now.>>37518948This. Airborne spotters for our warriors. Until we can get a crop going we need drones to find food, and our workers don't seem to cut it.
>>37518904oh sorry man >>37518854 wasn't a vote
>>37513274Hey, just joined. Curious about >SisterThough. Are we not the queen? Did anons insist on equality or something?
>>37519082It's our brother.
>>37519082Our mother also laid the thinker, which does make him our biological brother.
>>37519047It would have been one yes more so:4Y | 1NAfter much deliberation you have decided on how to better spread the resources you have at your disposal. It is high time that you invested in research, and while your sibling is quite good at his job, there is only so much that you can do with a single thinker, you need more than that. This planet offers so much to learn, and much is needed to be learned, of that you are now sure. The surprise the vocalizing beasts has given you was costly.Fortunately they cannot fly, and your drones can be given that ability, at a cost but they can be made air worthy. This will give you a great advantage, you will be able to have scouts and sentries that can spot danger to your ground-bound drones, and it will be invaluable to avoid danger and hunt prey. Perhaps your future scouts can find plenty game elsewhere, you can only hope. But for that you need ground workers, you will replenish the dead. And finally you turn your powerful mind to design warriors fit for this environment, you have no metal, but this is not a problem, you simply increase the amount of chitin armor and add an endothermic organ, the blades you make of hardened chitin, its not as elegant or as deadly as a warrior of metal, but it will do its job. And do it well, you have no worries on that front, warriors have seldom been easily stopped. >>37519217> Secure the cave opening. (write in how.)Use the castoffs from the digging effort and any rocky unusable bits of the pod to temporarily fill it.As I recall pods are at least a good part useless rock
>>37519217> Secure the cave opening. (write in how.)Fill it in with rock until the hive can grow into a proper door. Also, start work on building a proper armored door.
>>37519279>>37519283>>3751937810 minutes until voting ends. Also Vespers
>>37519217>Secure the cave openingCover it with dirt? I think we need some ventilation though, so perhaps place a hollow tree in it.
I think all those options can fit together. Unless anon is unusually attached to dirt.
>>37519562I thought the rest of the extensive cave system would make up for the ventilation.
>>37519607Depending on how permanent the covering is suppose to be we might get snowed in.
>>37519217Guys can we survive this?
>>37519904I believe we can.
>>37519904We must believe in our Children anon.
>>37519904Nope.It'll be a ride though.
>>37519946You direct the workers to fill in the entrance with snow and dirt, that should do the job for now, you have the two sentries keep guard inside the cave. The night will be long and you can only hope that no new horrors await you tomorrow.(short must go.)Quest ends here for tonight.Remember the twitter is:https://twitter.com/QuestDroneBeta0
>>37520007I have to put my say with this one. We could of kept it leaner and focused on a bit of research shenanigans to figure out a algae farm or something with the vespers to get a semi stable food income. You guys just better hope dice jesus is with you all tonight. You'll need it
>>37519904I give us a 33.333 repeating of course % chance of survival.
>>37520047Thanks for the Quest Beta. May we survive the eternal hunger.
>>37520047Damn. Can't blame you, I have to get up at 6.Next time then. Are you running tomorrow?
>>37520047Well this was a rough and fun night. I admit that I fucked up with the calculations on the upkeep. I pray that the dice are with us on our next foraging run. Thanks for running QDB.
>>37520092Maybe, if i run it will be 10 pm EST check the twitter for it.
>>37520098It it comes it it we can just have some of our workers starve. And then we realize that we explored the caves too greedily and too deep, waking up whatever lurks.
>>37520098SHIT, what will the upkeep be then?
Since we're the thread is over, I've noticed that this particular is Queen is much more... expressive and emotional than Red.>>37520191Barely enough to keep us alive in the time that our new drones can forage new supplies for us.
>>37520226Red hasn't been facing mortal injury and starvation on her first week Either.
>>37520226I actually tried to write the Red queen as a blank slate and used the player actions to build up a personality. Since you tended towards investigation, political intrigue, and espionage she is more composed and level headed, essentially channeling your inner shadowrunner. The few things I included from the start was a bit of vanity and motherly love for her drones.
>>37520064>>37520191Went and did the numbers:>Current resource reservesNutrients: 174Metals: 0>Upkeep cost Queen – 5First Clutch Worker (3) – 6Thinker (3) - 9Winter Workers (14) – 56Winged Winter Worker (2) -12Winter soldiers (3) - 27Miners(5)- 20=Total Cost:135 >IncomeNutrients: 0Net: 39FUCK!
>>37520421eat the first clutch after they finish and then go hunting with the warriors.
>>37520386This queen, is desperate, working to make ends meet. And seeing her hive on the brink of starvation for days now. She just witnessed a pure massacre of her new Winter drones and had her legs utterly crushed, end up dragging herself into the cave. I say Major PTSD here.
>>37520386>>37520496IMO, I see Red as someone who was supernaturally lucky at the beginning and eventually grew into a cunning and composed ruler who knew not to overextend herself .The closest we probably came to losing with her was when Lyle wiped almost all of our Warriors in our first encounter with him. This Queen on the other hand strikes me as someone who's booksmart and self-confident at first but repeated disaster and bad luck is surely breaking her.
>>37518237>you can only hope your sisters if any live do so in better planets, planets were they can enjoy the warmth of a star upon their magnificent wings, something you still regret not having been able to do.
