Welcome to another Pokemon: Southern Shores Quest!

The path to the Ranger Station is now mud. Sticky, difficult, frustrating mud. Why? Because a rainstorm decide to swoop in and further ruin your day. Figures.

You and Ness are currently sheltered under the boughs of a tree, arguing over whether or not to finish the "half-hour or so" walk to the Station and actually stay the night in comfort. Ness is adamant in her protests against that. She claims that should TITAN already be actively looking for you the nearest Station is one place they wouldn't miss. Furthermore, actually shopping or using any pay-for-use facilities will only light up the internet with information about your whereabouts.

"Yeah, but we need to rest and we need fucking supplies, Ness,"

"We shall procure supplies from the Station in the morning, when we can continue actively moving after signalling to anyone monitoring our internet traffic."

"Yeah, but..." You sigh and run your palms over your eyes. How do you explain your more human, weaker moments to an inhuman chick like her? "Look... I need to rest. And not in the FUCKING RAIN!"

That last bit you shout at the sky. It answers with another flashing rumble from the clouds. You stand and rip a small twig from the tree sheltering you. You curse after slightly stabbing yourself on a thorny vine. It's too fucking dark and rainy.

"I'm tired." You break the stick in half. "Half-mad, here." You break it again. "In a LOT of pain." You start ripping the cellulose into tiny fibers. "I'm trying to be reasonable, Ness... But that may be asking too much, now."

>Staying at the station will restore some fatigue and lower pain and/or stress, but may be risky.

>Insist on hitting the station up tonight. You can steal what you need.
>Insist on the station tonight. Screw the possible risks.
>You'll set up camp out here and sleep in nature's "comfort." Yeah. Comfort.
>Insist Ness go on ahead and get some supplies. Maybe she won't be recognized?

Hey everyone and welcome back to P:SS, Suffering Edition! Because being Grey is suffering!

Voting periods will be 10 minutes usually, with votes during high-stakes, "react fast!" events taking 5 minutes. I will wait 10 minutes here, initially, so that people can show up.

Write-ins are always welcome and, actually, I try to reward them when possible. Creativity, flexibility, thoughtfulness... All important things to consider when you're in the middle of guiding Grey through this quest.

If you have any questions or concerns at any point in the quest, please feel free to voice them. That said, let's try not to shitstorm in thread. That hasn't been a problem with this quest and that's because you guys, the playerbase, are the shit. Keep up the good work.

Useful shit:

"I understand, Grey. This body, too, is in pain."

You stop your little tantrum and look to Ness. She's bandaged, too. She doesn't show it, but she's suffering too.

"You're right." You drop the twisted, shredded fibers and let them fall to the rain-soaked ground. "I'm sorry, Ness. I need to better control myself. Going off isn't going to help either of us..."

You find your center; it's more difficult to do now than ever, but you've trained enough to overcome the pain and anguish on the surface. You're able to find the calm underneath.

"Let's set up camp and get taken care of; we can figure out how to proceed in the morning." Ness simply nods before standing up and beginning to work on clearing a campsite. You pull out your container balls (thankful you still have those, yeah?) and set to producing your camping supplies. A thought does strike your mind, though:

"Are we... Hm. We'll be safe for the night, you think?" Ness doesn't say anything. She only continues to work. "Something could attack the tent..." You shrug it off. You got the Poke-proof one for a reason. The night has been quiet and empty, anyways. No sense in mindless worrying.

You produce the tent. You expect it to come out already set up; unfortunately, it's been disassembled to a degree. This was confusing and then maddening. You had to fight off another tantrum after Ness explained she and Kal had investigated most of your belongings for tracking devices or other points of interest.

You get it set up, though. You're soaked to the bone but at least you have a tent...

You and Ness get inside and eat a warm meal; you got your stove up and some soup going. That and a couple simple sandwiches was enough to fuel you for the night.

You still had to change and tend to your wounds, though. You looked Ness over again... She was soaked, too. And her arm and torso needed attention. Both of you will need some help in properly tending to your wounds. You mention this, and Ness agrees.

"Yes. It would be prudent to see ourselves tended to before sleep. Contracting infections would be disastrous, currently." She rummages through the medical supplies before turning to you. You stare at her, slurping soup as you do so, and listen to the sounds of water drip off her form.

She stares at you with confusion.

"Yes, Grey? We should see to your wounds immediately. Please undress."

You shake your head.

"I'm not done eating. And, besides, you're soaked. We both need to dry off and change."

She looks down at herself, eyes running over the wet clothes sticking to her frame. She looks back up with a bit of aggravation in her eyes.

"You don't have any spare clothes, do you?"

"No. I do not have many of 'Seline's' personal belongings on my person, Grey."

"Ah."

You put on a bit of a smile. She has... seemed to do a lot to help you, thus far. You're certainly in a better position than when you were getting beaten, right?

"It's okay. Borrow some of mine, okay?" You pull out an outfit and she, uh, decides to immediately change into it. You quickly turn away and remain silent, ignoring the sounds of rustling to the best of your abilities. You start, flinching a bit, when she taps you on the shoulder. You look over to see her half dressed, and you quickly look away again. You assume a calm, tense silence once more.

"Grey? Grey. Please put this outside." She taps you again before handing you her wet clothing. You fumble for it, eyes glued to the tent wall. You bring it towards the flap and try not to look too carefully at her undergarments.

Damn you, male-ness. Damn you. Even when you're battered, bruised, and recently tortured.

You take a step outside and lay the clothing over a branch. Back inside, you set to changing out of your own wet clothing. You turn away and start undressing, but a feeling on your back...

"Ness?"

"Yes, Grey?"

"Please don't watch me change."

"I'm looking at your body for wounds."

You sigh and hike your pants back up. "Please? Just turn around. You can help me with my wounds in a minute."

"As you wish."

You grumble and grunt as you finish peeling off the wet fabrics and tossing them outside. A dry set of undergarments and pants on, you turn back to Ness-

"Fuck, Ness!" You cover your eyes quickly. "Put a shirt on, please? Why aren't you wearing a top?"

"I need you to bandage my torso an arm, Grey. It would be inefficient to attempt this with a shirt on."

"You, just, uh, you..." You sigh. "Just turn around and, here: put this over your chest. Please? For my sanity?" You toss her a towel and get to work.

"If it would improve your emotional stability than I shall oblige."

"Thank you." That bit of relief aside you have your hands full. Her arm is still bad, and rudimentary medical care is only going to do so much... The Rangers should be able to help, though.

"How are you feeling? How is your arm?' You look over her body carefully, noting lacerations, bruises, the tiny freckles... Not the freckles. No. Medical shit.

"Painful. Further treatment necessary. I shall guide you, yes? Application of healing-stimulation injections will be necessary, as well as bandaging that does not constrict vascular function..."

You follow as she drones on a bit about basic medical care, though in greater detail than you would have understood on your own. You work as she guides you, listening carefully.

At least with your hands moving with purpose you can ignore her... The clinical nature, unfortunately, is bothering you. Eventually she doesn't have anything else to say, too, and the sounds of rain are nice but you could use some human conversation. Some sort of connection, after being locked up for a week. Something non-work-related.

"Tell me about Seline."

"Hm?" That caught her off guard. "Combat capabilities? Skills? Knowledge of TITAN's inner workings?"

"No. Personal stuff."

"Current body temperature seems optimal. Slight goose bumps due to the cold and wet. Satiety and energy levels sub-optimal but sufficient. Heart rate and blood pressure may be abnormal due to hormonal influences at having you touch this body-"

"Damn it, Ness. I meant like... memories. Happiness. What makes 'you,' well, 'you?'"

"...." She goes quiet, hands running over one another in a nervous twitch. "That is a good question. I suppose meeting you turned Seline into Ness, and formed what Seline is today. My life and desires center around you."

"Your life centers around me? Grey?" You ask, incredulous. "I'm done, by the way. Let's get me bandaged up and then go to bed?"

"Yes. Please allow me." She turns around and moves towards the medical supplies-

"No, nope, and nope. Put your shirt on first, Ness..." You sigh and put your palm to your face once more. She's highly intelligent, but like a kid in some ways...

"Ah. Yes. Excuse me." She throws your shirt, rather baggy on her, onto her body and then starts working. You wince and groan as she goes over ever bruise and cut. "And at answer your question: yes. This existence is defined in large part by your presence and continued wholeness."

"Ah. So... You have brain damage? Maybe major brain damage?" You start laughing.

"No? Brain function seems to be normal, no lasting negative side effects of coming into contact with your consciousness..."

"It was a joke, Ness."

"Ah. Yes." She puts a hand to her mouth mechanically. "Ha ha. Hahaha."

"Other than that, though... Did you have family? Did Seline, I mean. Family? Friends? Loved ones? Why did she join TITAN?"

"Ah. Yes, I have access to many of such memories; compartmentalizing and understanding them in this new mental framework has been difficult, though... The human mind is so complex, amazing in its inefficiencies."

"Thanks."

"You are welcome. Ah, yes. Seline did not have much in the way of loved ones. She was a clone, and the figure most prominent and emotionally important in her life was killed by a Pokemon. I am sensing deep grief and anguish from this thought. It is troubling to me. I also understand that TITAN preys on such individuals. Kal, for example, had two children than were killed by Pokemon. This hatred for Pokemon is what spurs many of the more fanatical members of the organization."

"I see..." You think on that for a moment.

>cont.

>>37486133

This is the most you've learned about your new companion by far. She's definitely opened up quite a bit.

"And why doesn't your mind feel that way now? Are you incapable? Do you have free will, or do you have to help me BECAUSE you have to? Are you... compelled to? By something outside your body or something?"

Ness thinks on this for a few moments while idly running her hands up and down your shoulders.

"Could you, uh,... not do that? Please?"

"Ah. Yes. Apologies." She clears her throat a bit. "To answer your question... Yes? That is possible, albeit unlikely. Behavior is shaped by knowledge and experience. This mind has seen an influx of such that was sufficient to change behavior drastically. I 'saw the bigger picture,' if you will."

A few moments of quiet before she continues in a whisper.

"Perhaps I was made or forced to." She clears her throat. Her behavior is odd... More human-like, now? Different. Obvious, and yet subtle. "Perhaps something was lost in the process. Regardless, that is no longer the case. I am still human, just... more knowledgeable. I have gained so much from this." Her hands stop, this time at the small of your back. You cough and shift, causing her to move away from you.

"Estimates indicate a slight increase in intelligence as well. The component parts that made up Seline are still present, although slightly reorganized in some cases."

You nod along. You don't fully understand, but...

"And so you don't hate Pokemon anymore?"

"No. That would not be sensible. What benefit does hatred bring me as an individual? Nothing of value comes from it. Whereas assisting you brings great value to the whole world."

"Why? Why is that? What is TITAN and why do they need me...?"

"I do not sense it is a good time to tell you this. Grey."

Again with her stonewalling... You can sense apprehension, though. As if it's more of a struggle for her to resist telling you.

Not a good time...? When has that mattered for any of the things that has happened to you? You were on your Tour. Didn't matter! Got captured and beaten! You needed a mother. Didn't matter! Not a good time to need one! Got ignored!

You breathe through your nose slowly, forcefully, and deliberately. Calm. You need calm, not anger. As Ness just said... What does anger and hate give you other than emptiness?

"When, Ness...?"

"When? What are you referring to, Grey?"

"When would it be a good time to tell me?" You turn and look her in the eyes. She's flustered, upset. She's avoiding your gaze just a bit. It's an odd response on her. "I need to know. It's important and... would help me. You want to help me, right?"

"Grey, I..." She starts, voice quiet and weak. "Please understand, I believe it would be a long time until you are ready. You must be suitable emotionally and mentally. It cannot be now, and cannot be for a long time... Not while you have so many things you keep in your 'heart,' as it were. So many things holding you back."

"That's bullshit, Ness. I'm already wrapped up in this; I can't ignore it. I'll figure it out or something even if you don't tell me." You bring a hand to her wrist, urging her to look at you. "I need to know what's going on. Don't you care? About what I'm going through?"

"Yes." She looks up at you, now. "I do. Very much. Grey, you must understand me. Physiological forces in my body are pushing me to tell you despite my reason and logic. As 'robotic' as I may seem, this one is still human."

"... What?" Your mind runs over her words, but despite your efforts to translate they seem alien. "I don't understand. What are you saying?"

She pulls away from you, focusing now on the ground and her deep, heavy breathing. "My body is having a physiological response of attraction, stress, and perhaps the need for socialization."

>cont 2/3
>>
>>37486570

You look at her, still confused. She coughs and then continues. "Yes, ah, and, on top of the other stressors currently affecting me... This is resulting in my mind desperately wanting to tell you. To make you happy no matter the cost. A side effect, perhaps, of my greater understanding of your life and your mission. My two mental blocks, now more completely assimilated and synthesized, have come together to form a more human personality. This personality is more human because..."

You look at her, waiting. You gently urge her to finish.

"I thought you would be happier and more comfortable with greater humanity. I endeavored, succeeded, and now am having a tougher time controlling my stronger human impulses. Please do not push my mind further. It is weak. I will tell you, Grey, if you must know. I... I wish to see you happy and healthy. Not just logically but emotionally I wish for this."

"Ah." You're kinda speechless. That's understandable, right?

"TITAN wants you because..." She seems so conflicted. You don't stop her, though you strongly consider it. "Because you are a human specially designed and selected, capable of either repairing or destroying the ARC."

"Designed...?" You think. So many thoughts... You slip past them, trying to focus on what you imagine is most important. "But why destroy the ARC? Why repair it? What IS it?"

"The ARC is responsible for creating the signal that affects Pokemon and, in a psychological sense, keeps them from reverting to their more destructive nature. TITAN has tampered with this signal, resulting in global conflict with Pokemon. You are capable of addressing this problem."

You nod quietly. It's amazing... It's terrible. You look to Ness and she is rather distraught. You see what looks to be small tears in her eyes.

"I apologize. I will seek better control of my emotions regarding your person in the future, Grey."

"Sure, Ness." You tuck away your anger, your confusion. Your doubts. Someone's been lying to you your whole life, maybe the whole of society has. Whatever. Fuck'em. "Sure... Thank you. For telling me, even if it required trusting in me a lot."

"...Trusting in you?"

"Yes. By doing something for me that you had doubts with you trusted in me. That's one of the most..." You think for a moment on what the right words are. Best? Beautiful? Honorable? "It's really great for a human to do that. Beautiful of them."

"Ah. Thank you. Yes, I... Must trust in you, Grey." She smiles a bit before giving a very stiff thumbs up. "And perhaps you will trust me as well."

"Well, yeah. I guess I have had to trust you a lot in this whole thing... I'll do a better job of it." Your words helped, but she still seems shaken up. "Ya know what? Come here."

"Hm?" She looks at your outstretched arms with confusion. Uncertainty.

"Come here!" You drag her into a hug, which she learns how to properly reciprocate in the process. "Thanks for being human, I guess."

"Yes." Her voice is so tiny, now. "You are hugging me."

"Yes, I am. People do this when they are upset or see someone who is upset."

"Grey, I wish to have more physical intimacy with you."

"Uhhh, sure. We can hug... more...?" You just shake your head, chin brushing the top of her hair. She's such a weirdo...

"No. My body strongly desire to be further intimate with you, and I sense this would help me to feel better emotionally in the short term. You hugging is not helping. It is making me feel better in terms of trusting you, but making it more difficult to ignore my body. Please consider this in future attempts to engage hugging."

You sigh and move away, slightly breaking the hug so that you can better get at your sleeping bag and blankets.

"Come on. We're going to sleep, Ness."

"I am sensing this an invitation for sexual reproduction, Grey?"

You freeze. Then you remember it's just Ness and, well, she doesn't count for being embarrassed. Maybe you're just getting used to it.

"Just shut up and go to sleep with me, Ness."

"I see. I was correct in my assumption." She moves to undress at that but you practically tackle her, grabbing her hands and whisper-screaming at her.

"NO, you dumb ass! There is no such invitation! I have a girlfriend!"

"I do not follow that point to the same conclusion as you."

You throw your hands up and climb into the mish-mash of sleeping cushions grumpily. "Obviously."

"She is not present, and both of us have needs that need attending to. I would not compete with her emotionally or physically for your attentions were she available or present. Nor would she know about tonight to be upset. Perhaps... she would understand or invite me to accompany the two of you in future endeavors. I understand that the majority of young males such as yourself are attracted to such arrangements."

You cough violently at that. "Fffffat chance, Ness. Now PLEASE let me get some rest... Fires below, you've got to be the horniest young woman I've ever met. Keep it in your pants!"

"Perhaps I am simply the most forthcoming."

"Sleep."

"I am sensing I will be unable to persuade you and must remain unsatisfied."

"..."

You feel her arms wrap around you and her body push against yours, fitting into the curve of your back. You stiffen.

"I am sensing it would be impolite albeit not outside the realm of possibility to pleasure myself. May I do so?"

"God no. Please. Please just go to sleep you damn robot."

"You have to understand, Ness..." You stifle a yawn. "Relationships are built on trust. Dani trusts me not to sleep with women when she's not around. I don't. We go on living. That's how society works; basic economics."

"Basic economics dictates that there if there is

"Ness?"

"... a supply and demand the two parties-"

"Ness."

"...may agree on a pric-"

"Ness, you're gonna have to get Dani's permission. She's the boss, understand? It's out of my hands. Discussion over."

"I... I do not have the number to her cellular device with which to contact her."

"And I don't have it fully memorized, so give it up for now. Sleep."

She goes quiet, and you sense a simmering, hot, angry determination emanating from her. You just focus on the cool of your pillow and drift to sleep...

I hope it doesn't take too long for us to get back to Dani. I doubt my own and my fellow players ability to resist Ness for long
>>
>>37487393
I think noncanon lewds will help us resist. Especially if Dani and Ness figure something out between themselves...

The day is still drying out, still shaking itself free of the work of night and rain, when you approach the Ranger Station.

The first thing you note is the smoke. Faint hints of it everywhere as you get closer, and perhaps wisps of it rising in the distance. The smell permeates everything, putting you on edge. It seems... odd. Even for a fire-type stampede or something. Maybe some Arcanines built up a mating inferno. Ness doesn't say much other than to "keep on your guard. Watch the trees."

You do so, pulling Sprig out just in case.

Still, the way there is quiet. Eerily quiet. Deathly quiet.

You find that death to not only permeate the silence: the smoke, the signs of burnt underbrush and knocked over trees? All the signs point to a great, vicious battle. And they all point towards the station.

>How do you approach?
>From the treeline. Scout the perimeter first.
>Head straight in.

Then you're just like Grey. Better keep rolling to resist...!

"Ness? Forces or Pokemon, we're walking into either a trap or danger. Or neither, but that doesn't seem likely..." You kneel down and wipe away a bit of ash on a small form... You can't make much out, but you find it very likely it was alive at some point.

"Let's move through the tree cover. Sparse as it is, it's better than walking in through the front door..."

"Agreed. Let's move. I'll lead the way; watch yourself, Grey." She approaches you at this, going for a hug.

"Ness...? What are you doing?"

"I, ah." She backs away a bit. "I sense this situation to be troubling and found, ah, a hug appropriate to remedy any emotional stress you may be experiencing."

You chuckle a bit. "Thanks. Come here." You hug her, happy until you have to push her hands aside."Yeah... Don't grab my ass. I know you understand basic social niceties, Ness."

"That was for my own emotional security."

Bullshit.

>>>>

You approach quietly and low, moving through soot, ash, and the skeletal remains of a lush treeline towards the perimeter. You move along the circumference, watching for any obvious signs of opposition, danger, or threat. There's... nothing. The only thing you see in the trees or around the compound is one man. Sweeping and directing a few injured Pokemon around in basic activities.

He looks like a Ranger.

I don't know about you, but I'm fully hoping Dani agrees to allow it. Constantly denying Ness isn't going to end well eventually.

"I shall speak with him, Grey. Appearance would suggest he is an official Ranger, and usage of Pokemon suggests this as well... Regardless, no member of TITAN should have reason to suspect me or recognize me as it stands."

"Why wouldn't they recognize you?"

"Seline was a new recruit, and they do not socialize much."

"Sure." She moves towards a hole in the wire fencing and you follow, tapping her shoulder. "I'm coming with you, though. We haven't seen anyone else and he could still be dangerous. I insist."

She looks as if preparing a protest, eyes twinkling with a cold flame... But then she nods and moves forward at your side. You call Sprig after you.

"Hello?" You call out. The man throws his head up, body tensing. "Are you a Ranger? What happened here?"

"Hold it! Hold it!" He throws his hands up, dropping the broom and backing up a bit. His eyes scan your forms fearfully, lingering on Sprig for some time. "You... Safe... Are there any out there? Did you see any?"

"Any what?"

"POKEMON! Wild 'Mons, damn it! Going crazy, killing and destroying!"

"No, we... No. Just one, but it's been empty otherwise."

"Yeah... yeah..." He goes to muttering and rubbing his head, cursing and rubbing his head. "Where did you come from?"

"South. We were in the wilds.... Training>"

He buys it with no issue.

>What happened?

"We were attacked. We need supplies." You gesture to your group and then towards the compound. He nods, a deep... sadness in his eyes? "Can we head inside?"

He sighs. "Yeah. I'm telling you now, though... The main line was damaged. Badly. Not getting much electricity; much of the backup generation was targeted too. Damn fuckin' fucks... Fuckin' 'Mons just tore us to shreds. Knew where to hit us: right in the civilization. Power, water... Listen," His shoulders slump.

"Listen, we don't have much. And the few of us here are mostly wounded. Rest headed for the city: 'Mons hit us first but... We figure they moved to the city. More people. Had to be deliberate..." He groans before collecting himself. Then he leads you inside.

You push past and climbe over a makeshift barricade. The main, tiny lobby of what would be a Medical Wing is sooty and torn to shreds. You head deeper into the compound...

A piercing tone goes out from a small radio in a corner of the room.

"ATTENTION! ATTENTION! This is a public radio broadcast. ATLAN CITY HAS BEEN LOST. Repeat: ATLAN CITY HAS BEEN LOST. DO NOT HEAD THERE FOR SAFETY."

There's static, and then a human voice takes over.

"People of Southern Shores... This is Konstantin Basorovich. As I speak, members of the group TITAN are working to re-secure our streets and homes against this new threat."

A bit more static. The room is quiet. You're trembling.

"Many have spoken of the day that Pokemon might once again be used to kill and destroy. We know now said day is upon us."

"I welcome you to join us, and as leader of operations in Southern Shores recommend we all band together so that peace might be restored once more."

"Like the mythical Atlas, we shoulder a great burden today. I know, however, that humanity is capable of mustering the strength necessary. I, here now as Prometheus, promise I shall bring the light to our world once again."

"Let the flame of humanity ignite."

Curse you work! I miss another thread!

I find it highly hypocritical that these assholes are causing all these deaths while playing up being good guys. Wanna punch them in the face.
