Green and yellow bursts of energy shoot through the skies. You hold up the wounded Cherry to one of the Lantern members, a jellyfish whose name escapes you (it’s probably something stupidly ridiculous anyway). You are Lumière Berger, Green Lantern of Sector 2814, and you are helping liberate the Red Lantern Corps from Legion’s control.

And you have to do it facing an army of Manhunters and Legion himself.

Clarissa, Chaselon, Red Tornado, and Eudora float in. The other Lanterns zoom past, engaging a large contingent of Manhunters coming at you. “What’s the skinny?” asks Clarissa.

“We freed Atrocitus from the grasp of the Black Mercy!” you say. “And he’s now engaged with Legion in the palace. Cherry was severely wounded, otherwise things are going relatively well.”

Red Tornado slams her fists together. “Alright! Let’s get to it! Let’s help Atrocity beat Legion then!”

“Atrocitus,” you correct.

“Atrocious, whatever,” says Clarissa. “We can’t worry about him now. There are Manhunters all over the place. We liberate the planet first, then we help him.”

Chaselon nods swiftly. “I agree with Green Lantern Savage’s strategy.”

Eudora sips on a cup of tea, looking around. “I am just here to help.”

As much as you don’t want to leave the leader of the Red Lanterns alone with the leader of the Manhunters and one of the most ultimate enemies of the Green Lanterns, you decide the many outweighs the few. “Fine then, Clarissa. You will take Chaselon and move in on the production facilities. I will take Red Tornado and Eudora and cover you.”

Clarissa gives you a smirk and a salute. “Will do, sweetcheeks.” She grabs Chaselon by the fin and pulls him off to fight. That just left you, Red Tornado, and Eudora.

She smiles as you feel her energy coursing through you. “I am here to help!”

> ALL WILL ROLLS IN PROXIMITY TO A BLUE LANTERN WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE CRITICAL SUCCESSES

> In Proximity to a Blue Lantern, only a 1d20 will be rolled for a Construct attack.

You three fly down on a trail after Clarissa. The two of them ahead of you break off downwards and start bombarding the area. Clarissa herself has the foresight to give herself a green bomber jacket, pilot goggles, and a fresh B-17 Flying Fortress complete with construct crew, machine guns, and bombs. “Suck on this, you metal freaks!” she screams. The bombs drop out of the bomb bay and devastate the factories and production lines all across the planet.

You look back to see a large contingent of Manhunters flying up behind you all. You, Eudora, and Red Tornado pause.

It’s time to fight!

The surge of hope flows through your veins! You yell as you blast out constructs from your ring. Fighter planes of all shapes and sizes fly out. Below their wingtips are gigantic magnets, which buzz to life as the Manhunters are immediately sucked in. You see King Kong and friends pilot them from the cockpits, roaring and growling over the radios.

The Manhunters are easily dispatched.

Red Tornado flies up to you. “Wow. You really like King Kong, huh?’

You smile. “One of my favorite movies.”

Clarissa radios in to you from her B-17. “Yo, hot stuff, the Manhunters are starting to pull out from the planet.” What? “I can see them retreating in the thousands! It looks like a sea of red out here!” You look behind you and sure enough, you do see the steady stream of Manhunters all flying off into the stars. “Should we pursue?”

“No, there’s too many for us.” That’s strange though, way too many for all of you to take on, even with Eudora nearby. “Where’s Legion?”

“Why are you asking me?” she asks. Her B-17 flies past.

One of the Green Lanterns interrupts your call. “Green Lantern Berger! It’s Legion!” Huh!? “Atrocitus is down! Legion is making a break for it!”

Oh, oh dear.

If it follows the JLU/DCAU continuity, he won't join until at least the 90s or so. If it's the comics continuity, then he might be a part of it right now. But Sctheel is probably picking bits and parts of the DCU to include in this quest continuity, so we might just have to wait to find out.

All of you zoom back down to the palace. “Forget Legion! We need to save Atrocitus!” You need speed, speed!

Clarissa crushes down her B-17 then stuffs all of you into the Hughes H-1 Racer. “Here we go!” You blast off back down towards the palace.

-

-

You bust through the doors to find Atrocitus lying on the ground. The Green Lanterns all stand over him, one of them has his tentacles over Atrocitus’ bleeding chest. He turns his eye stalk up to you. “I am sorry.”

“No…” You walk up to them all. No, he can’t die! You only just met! “Surely-“

“Our willpower has very little effect on the rage of Red Lanterns,” he says. “Our healing cannot do anything for him.”

Eudora steps in. “Stand aside.” They all step back as Eudora rubs up her hands, then presses them on Atrocitus’ chest. Blood spews between her fingers, and she yelps in surprise as you see it sizzle and smoke. Atrocitus coughs, panting and wheezing.

The medic Green Lantern explains. “Legion has crushed his lungs. And he has internal bleeding.”

“What about Cherry?” you ask.

“She is well, we have kept her aside.” You all look to see Cherry, sitting on the wall, clutching her legs and staring intensely at you all. You can just feel the anger, the hate, and the confusion coming from her eyes.

“Can we save him?” you whisper.

Eudora looks up to you. For once, she does not look so sure of herself.

> See if you can do anything to help

“Can I do anything?” you ask.

Eudora nods frantically. “Yes, yes, uh…” She whips up a blue bandage from her ring. “Tie that around his chest, and press down.” You take the tingly and sparkly set of bandages from her and then start wrapping up Atrocitus’ chest.

Clarissa kneels down next to you all. “He looks terrible.”

Red Tornado agrees. “It’s like a tractor ran over him.”

Atrocitus spits up more acid and plasma from his mouth, gurgling. Eudora tips his head over, letting him spit and cough, so as not to choke on his own blood. “There, there,” she whispers. “It will all be well soon.”

Suddenly, he raises his hand. You all flinch backwards. Then he points his ring finger to Cherry. Cherry blinks, then slowly crawls over to Atrocitus. Atrocitus hacks up more blood, spitting bile and bone onto the floor. Cherry takes his hand, tears welling in her eyes. “Atrocitus….”

He stares up into Cherry’s eyes, then motions for his ring.

“What’s he doing?” you ask.

Cherry sniffles, gripping his hand tight. “H-… he wants me to take his ring…”

“Hang on, we can still save him!” you say. You press down on his bandages, waiting for Eudora to confirm it. “Eudora, please!”

Eudora looks to you, then back at him. “I-… I can only do so much.”

You hear a rattling in Atrocitus’ throat. Slowly, he goes limp. His eyes go cold and lifeless. He stops writhing and struggling. Atrocitus has died. Cherry presses her face against his hand, sobbing. The other Red Lanterns poke their heads out from behind the columns and from around the ceiling.

You all sit there, completely in disbelief. Atrocitus, leader of the Red Lanterns, one of the ultimate enemies of the Green Lanterns, was dead.

This is a strange feeling. Something pangs in your chest. Clarissa places her hand on your shoulder, and you take it reassuringly. Eudora simply stares at him, completely shocked and dumbstruck. Red Tornado kneels down next to you, finding a little comfort.

Slowly, Cherry slides his ring off, then grips it tight into a fist. She cries, then clutches his dead body.

He’s dead. He’s really dead.

And Legion killed him.

A hasty and impromptu burial service in underway for Atrocitus. He is to be placed in a red construct of a ship, and then sailed into the murky lava and hot fires of the rivers, where it will eventually burn down and take his body. The Red Lanterns are solemn, quite solemn for a Corps built on anger. You, Clarissa, Red Tornado, Eudora, and Chaselon all stand to the side and out of the way as Cherry oversees it all.

“I can’t believe he’s dead,” says Clarissa. “We just met him.”

“At least the Red Lanterns have been saved,” says Chaselon.

Slowly, the ship carrying Atrocitus sails off. It flows down the river, catching the fire as it slowly sinks into the hot lava. The last remnants of Atrocitus will be gone, and consumed into fire. Cherry walks up to you all, her cheeks stained with tears and her face locked into what seems to be a terrifying scowl. “Cherry.” You stand up. “Listen-“

“Save it,” she growls. “Legion will pay.” She holds up Atrocitus’ ring, then tosses it away into the rocks. You look down at it as it shines back at you. She walks off.

Clarissa nudges you. “Come on, we should get out of here.”

You look down at the ring. It’s… calling to you. You’re not sure why.

“Go on.” You cross your arm, staring down at the ring. “I’ll be with you shortly.” She nods, then moves on with all the rest. Once they come on out of view, you sneakily slip and slide down the rocks. It’s a risky venture, if you are honest, but soon enough, you bend down and pick up the ring from the soot and the gravel. You dust it off some, then look through the fingerhole. So this is one of the legendary Red rings.

Strange, you feel like you want to put it on…

No, no. You stuff it into your pocket, then start climbing back up the rocks.

The Guardians address you, having been debriefed on the situation on the Atrocitus and the Red Lanterns by Clarissa. “The death of Atrocitus is most advantageous to us, for many reasons. You humans have a saying, cut off the head and the snake will die.” You sit in a chair at the Wayne Manor in England, glaring at them.

“That is a bit insensitive,” you say.

“That is the truth,” says another Guardian. “It is true that the Corps has many enemies, but now we are short one thanks to Legion. By our predictions, this should result in the slow disintegration of the Red Lanterns as they vie for leadership in the power vacuum he has left behind.”

“But what about Cherry?” you ask. “Atrocitus gave his ring to her, that mean he intends to have her succeed him.”

“Forget about her,” says a third. “All that matters now is the mission. You are dismissed, Green Lantern Berger.” They cut off from your ring, disappearing. You sigh, placing your head in your hands and leaning on the table.

Poor Cherry. She’s been inconsolable. You, Clarissa, and Red Tornado returned to the Manor after the incident, to rest and cool down. You can hear Rouge humming as she dusts down the walls and the carpets, while Clarissa whistles as she makes food in the kitchen.

Cherry has been in the guest room for who knows how long.

> See what Clarissa is up to

You poke your head in to see Clarissa. She’s already used her ring to project herself a nice little green shirt dress with a black belt, and a black aliceband. Her curly and swirly ponytail sits behind her rather than on her shoulder as she cooks something in pot. “Oh, hey, honey bunch.” She smiles.

“What are you cooking?” you ask. You sniff the air. Oooh, oui, it smells amazing!

“Oh, a little bit of pasta primavera with some cuts of chicken added in.” She wafts the scent from the pan to her nose. “Hm… pasta smells ready.” She looks over to you. “Mind helping me cut the veggies?”

You nod, snapping your fingers and projecting up a knife. “Sure.” You take the bell peppers and start chopping them up finely. “So, how is Cherry?” you ask.

Clarissa shrugs as she starts pouring the pasta out onto plates. “Last I saw her, she was just hugging a pillow up in that room, staring out the window. I half-expected her to just project Atrocitopalous and have sex with it.” She grins, but upon seeing your disappointed look, her grin fades. “Yeah, insensitive, sorry.”

You sigh, continuing to cut. “It’s fine. She’s not taking it well, I do worry about her a little.”

Clarissa pauses as she grabs the chicken. “Um. Yeah, yeah…” She sighs.

“Something wrong?” you ask. Suddenly, you feel a sharp sting. “Ow!” You withdraw your hand and put it up to your lips. Clarissa drops the chicken onto the counter and then holds your hand. “Ow… I cut my hand.”

She takes it and looks over, there is quite the cut on your finger, but nothing too serious. Clarissa looks up at you. “Why did you project a knife that could still cut you?”

You pout. “Shut up!”

She pouts mockingly back. “Awww, does little sweetie want a kiss to make it feel better?”

You furrow your brow, turning away from her. “Hmph. I am an adult, Clarissa.” You snap your unwounded finger. “I’ll kiss it myself.” You peck your lips against the cut, and let the salty taste of blood stain your lips. It already feels slightly better.

She sighs, rolling her eyes. “Whatever.” She starts chopping up the chicken without a thought and with just a construct acting on its own, still looking at you. “You really should be more careful, honey bunch. You need to get the idea that this is your stuff, so you shouldn’t hurt yourself with it.”

“Right, right,” you say. You lean on the counter, sighing. You place a band-aid, a real one, on your cut. “Anything else I can do?”

She puts a bit of chicken out for you to taste on a spoon. “Here.” She holds it up to you, smiling stupidly. “Here comes the plane! Neeeee-rrrrrr~!” You stare at her. “Come on!” she whines.

You sigh again, then open your mouth. She shoves the spoon in, then you bite down and take the meat. Your eyes widen. Wow, this meat is actually pretty good! She pops the spoon out of your mouth. “Mmm, c’est bon, Clarissa!”

“Thanks!” She smiles as she takes another cut onto the spoon then pops it into her mouth. She takes in the taste generously, sighing in bliss.

… wait, that spoon was in your mouth! OH THAT’S DISGUSTING!

She looks over to you. “What?” You shake your head, hiding your grimace.

“I should go help Rouge.” You silently stalk out of the kitchen, continuing to look at Clarissa as she licks the spoon that was in your mouth for a few brief seconds. She waves goodbye to you, staring out the window.

You shudder. Ugh. Something is wrong with her. Typical Americans.

You find Rouge in the music room, dusting down the piano. “Oi,” you call. She looks over, grinning happily. “Do you need some help?”

Rouge shakes her head. “Nope!” What? “I’ve had this place cleaned top to bottom!” She projects her hand out. A gust of wind blows open a door, blasting a load of dust into a huge tornado that surprisingly doesn’t kicking anything up. Instead, it turns into a dust devil that forces itself outside. “The benefits of practicing with your powers!”

“Wow.” You smile, placing your hands on your hips. “Rouge, you’ve really improved since we first met. I remember you couldn’t go two blocks without breaking a window.”

“Ah, well…” She shrugs. “Still can’t, but this is a start!” she declares. “So how’s Cherry?”

You shrug at her, sitting down at the piano. “I don’t know. I hear she’s not very… doing well.”

“Oh, she just needs someone to listen!” She happily hums as she dusts down one of the bookshelves. “Why, when my precious hamster died, I came to them about it!”

“What did they say?” you ask.

Her face drops into a heavy frown for just a brief second. “They forgot I bought a hamster.” Her smile perks up again. “Anyway though, I felt better at least telling them! You should at least be there to hug her and tell her everything’s going to be just dandy! That’s the Christian way!”

“You know, Rouge. I don’t think your parents sound very caring of you. Don’t they know you’re living here, working on Bruce Wayne’s manor, and being his maid here?”

She nods. “Yeah, I told them, they said it was nice, and then they hung up!” She smiles.

“Rouge, I don’t think your parents care about you.” It’s a heavy truth, but she should at least confront it.

She sighs, sad. “Yeah, you’re right. But at least I get to do all the cool superhero stuff!” She holds out her arms like airplane wings, running around the room. “I get to fight crime! Fight for justice! Meet the Justice Society in person, get to meet you too!” She smiles happily. “Hell, if my parents cared about one bit, I wouldn’t have gotten to meet you!”

“Well-“

She smiles, placing her head on your lap. She happily giggles. Aw, she’s like a puppy. “I don’t care. I’m a superhero, and I love it!”

Hm. You got to love her optimism.

You pat her head happily. “Dinner’s on!” yells Clarissa. Rouge hops up, happily.

What? Only me and someone else voted to keep ignoring her.
>>
>>37470972
Then what about the last four or so polls? Why did everyone suddenly decide to ignore cherry when we kept being told that we should go talk to her?

I'm glad we're going now, but the fact that it took four votes and we decided to not go talk to her on the same vote we were told to go talk to her is baffling.
>>
>>37470891

I thought people were combining votes to see Cherry, but also comment on RT's situation with her parents.
>>
>>37471015
I think the idea is to give her some time and space. Think things through. We are now seeing her after only like an hour delay.
>>
>>37471015
One of the votes was specifically for dialogue with Clarissa, and like >>37471023 says, there were a few combining options in the past votes. The first vote was fairly divided between Clarissa and Cherry , though RT's wasn't

So there's been a vote for each of them, with Clarissa getting an extra vote for dialogue.
I would't say we've been ignoring her by any means.
>>
>>37471215
Also I feel if we went strait to Cherry, we would never hear from the other two in this thread in this situation.
>>
>>37471215
I wanted to see Cherry Earlier, but I think its fine. She wanted space and we've given it too her. Now we're going to see her.

We tried to save the man who gave her hope in the darkness and the chance to RIP back her fate from the germans after she lost her family
>>
> “Let me find Cherry first.”

You knock on Cherry’s door. “Cherry?” No answer. You sigh, then open up the door. You see Cherry, lying on her side, staring out the window and clutching a pillow to her chest. She wears a red nightgown and black stockings, a far cry from her usual more armored attire. “Cherry, dinner is ready.”

She grunts, not moving.

You walk up to her bed, then sit down next to her. “Cherry?” She still looks ahead, her mouth and nose buried into the pillow, leaving only her sad puppy dog eyes. This isn’t the rage-filled girl you know. Admittedly, you haven’t known her for that long, though you did… eh, no no, don’t bring that up. “Cherry? Are you okay?”

She grunts again, still unmoved.

“You know, Cherry. The death of a loved one is always so sad.” You bite your lip, thinking. “My mother died giving birth to me, I had to deal with that for most of my life. I learned to live with it though.”

She still looks ahead.

You look down a bit, then bite your finger. What is there to say to her?

You have to admit though, she’s handling this quite solemnly for a Red Lantern.

> Hug her, there’s nothing to say.

You scoot on over, then wrap an arm around her, lying down to hug her. She doesn’t resist nor does she even move in response to your body contact. She still just sits there, staring out the window.

There really isn’t anything to say right now.

The door opens up. “Hey, sweetcheeks!” You turn around to see Clarissa, with two piping hot plates of pasta with veggies in her hands. “Dinner’s on.” She sees you hugging Cherry, and very appropriately remains quiet about it.

You nod. “Thank you, Clarissa.” She walks over, then places the plates down on the bed.

Clarissa looks to Cherry, and then says, “Hey, kid. Listen, don’t wallow in this. Turn it into something useful. I know there’s some rage in there. Inside every good person is a fighting spirit trying to get out.” She smiles, scooting the plate over to her. “Go on and eat.” She smiles at you. “We’ll be downstairs.”

You nod again. “Thanks.” She happily waves to you both, then shuts the door behind her as she leaves.

“Cherry?” you call. She still doesn’t move.

"Cherry...I want to think that being nice will help you through this, but I know you're not that kind of person. So how about this. Every moment with him that could have been is now gone because of Legion, and all you're doing is sitting here. Atrocitus would have wanted action, and anger, and fury to scour planets. Righteous vengeance. Maybe you couldn't save him. Maybe you won't forgive yourself for that just yet. But his killer is still loose. You can do something about that, at least."
>>
> “Do you want to talk?”

“Do you want to talk?” You place your plate in your lap, sitting cross legged as you sit and watch over her.

“There is not much to talk about,” she says. Finally, some words. “I only wish I could have done more.”

You’re about to say that there was nothing she could’ve done, but then that might make her feel worse. No, you need to figure something else out. “I suppose.” You take up a forkful of the pasta and slurp some of it up. The sweet and juicy taste of it is dulled a bit by Cherry’s mood. “Cherry, surely Atrocitus-“

“He was my new father after yours took away mine and the rest of my family.” You feel something sting at your heart. Ouch. “It feels like I lost my right arm.” She turns over to you, her eyes watery. “He wasn’t a villain like the Guardians made him out to be. He was just lost, we all were.” You bite the inside of your cheek, nodding. “When we find Legion again, I am going to make him pay. I will destroy planets in his name.”

You smile. “That’s the spirit.” Except for the destroy planets part.

She nods. “Oui. It is.” She sits up, still hugging the pillow and sighing. “Sorry for dragging you into this.”

“It’s fine.” You explain it all to her. “We need all the help we can get, and besides, friends are always welcome. That is the Lord’s way.” You happily place her plate down in front of her. “Come on, eat.”

Cherry nods, placing the pillow down then she starts to practically inhale the food. Savor the taste, come on! She burps loudly, then clears her throat. “Sorry.”

You sigh. “Now that you mention my father, I haven’t check on him in some time.”

“Even if he is a Nazi and even if he is sending families to their deaths despite his heroic streak…” She turns to you, scowling again. “You should at least check on him from time to time.”

“Maybe another time,” you say.

All of you sit around in a lounge. You look to see Clarissa reading some sort of comic as she lies on the couch. “Clarissa, what are you reading?”

She shrugs. “Tear opened up in the garden, shut faster than a nun’s legs over a vent. Dropped this out though.” She holds it out for you. Sailor Moon? What kind of comic is that? “Strange comic, very weird art style. Big eyes and all that.” She tosses it away. “Anyway, I’m bored.”

“So am I,” you say. You look to see Cherry lying back on another couch and Red Tornado dutifully dusting down shelves. You check the time. It is getting late, very late. “We should all turn in for bed, perhaps.” You stand up, then you hear a phone ring.

“I’ll answer that.” You hop on over to the main foyer area, where the phone resides. Soon enough, you pull the phone out and bring it to your ear. “Wayne Manor, England, Bruce Wayne is not available right now, but do please leave a message, oui?”

:: Hello, Green Lantern. ::

… Legion.

:: We are most amused that you would lower yourself to be a servant to another, and yet you hold one of the most powerful artifacts in the known universe. Baffling. ::

“What do you want? Where are you!?” You look around.

:: We are not where you think we are. We call you only to talk. You have done nothing but foil our plans time and time again. You are like a fly squishing itself into the gears of a well-oiled machine. And for that, we realize that you must go.”

You smirk. “I am much harder to kill than you may think.”

:: We do not want to kill you. The Guardians grant us a mercy like that. No. We are going to make you suffer instead. Earth, your home planet, and everyone you love, will turn to ash. We will bury you as you wither and die like we did. And then we shall destroy the Green Lantern Corps. You will still live as we do this, and you do nothing but starve and watch as all that you live by crumbles around you. And then we will kill you. ::

Hmph. You hang up on him. That’ll show him how much you don’t care.

Your caring is intensifying. If Legion comes with those Manhunters, there’s no telling what may happen to the world! Oh dear oh dear oh dear! You pick up the phone and start dialing again. Once you’re through to the operator: “Operator, get me the Justice Society!”

“Would you like to make this a collect call?”

… Merde. “Um, sure, I guess.”

After a few minutes of wires connecting and other stuff, you’re through. “Justice Society here. What’s the situation?” It’s the Flash, Monsieur Garrick!

“Monsieur! There is going to be an invasion of Earth soon, I don’t know where from where, but soon! You must keep on alert for it, alright?”

“Oh, that sounds terrible. Can you give us the details?”

“I think I can spare it until the morning. But make sure everyone is on alert and watching the skies, oui?”

“Hm… Alright, GL. We’ll be watching.”

And with that, he hangs up. Right, Justice Society is alerted.
