Your name is Grey.

You are a Pokemon Trainer. You are a Sortie, to be exact. New, excited, and maybe even a little naive. Your Tour promised you adventure, friendship, freedom, challenges, and rewards. It did not promise you capture by some militarized organization while in the process of earning your first badge.

It did not promise you being locked up in a fucking prison cell of a room.

Welcome to Southern Shores.

In the Central state of what was once Wyoming, a man set to burning some brush wood on his property. The sparks hit the dry wood fast, sticking to it and building into a crackling blaze in no time flat. Ash and soot was thrown up and into the sky from this fire; a particular minuscule piece of which found its way to the atmosphere where it stuck like last Tuesday's meatloaf to the trashcan lid.

Moisture began to coalesce around this particulate; a cold front pushed through from the North, driving the moisture and that piece of dust southwards where it met the warmer fronts of air coming off the ocean and the Gulf. The moisture around the piece of dust dragged it down, down, down out of the sky. That raindrop hurtled through storm clouds in its race towards the Earth. Eventually, it found its end smacking the roof of a shoddy, old building. Stone and rockfibres chipped, worn, and bleached by years in the sun. The drop and others like it worked their way through cracks, over pipes... Working deeper and deeper into the building. A small puddle eventually formed, boundaries marked by water stains of years past.

The puddle drips onto your nose.

You awake with a start. It is your second morning in paradise.

Voting periods will be 10 minutes usually, with votes during high-stakes, "react fast!" events taking 5 minutes. I will wait 10 minutes here, initially, so that people can show up.

Write-ins are always welcome and, actually, I try to reward them when possible. Creativity, flexibility, thoughtfulness... All important things to consider when you're in the middle of guiding Grey through this quest.

If you have any questions or concerns at any point in the quest, please feel free to voice them. That said, let's try not to shitstorm in thread. That hasn't been a problem with this quest and that's because you guys, the playerbase, are the shit. Keep up the good work.

"They can capture me," you stretch with a yawn, your body angrily protesting the movement. Your back has seen better days. "And blow up a gym, but they can't fix a fuckin' leak?"

There's some bread and meat that you saved from "dinner" last night, so you eat that with the cold can of beans they put out this morning.

"Beans. Awesome." The first bite goes down hard; an iron taste, salty, cold, disgusting... You force it down. "Fuck you, Titan."

You look to the camera mounted in a corner of the ceiling: obvious, motionless, and intimidating. You have a strong urge to throw this shitty can at it.

>Risk of losing composure: Low
>Keeping your composure is important. However, keeping your emotions in check is made tougher by pain, hunger, fatigue, and emotional stress.

You tamp that down for now, and decide to make better use of your time. Might as well look for a way out, right? Unfortunately, there's not much. The room is sparse. You can tell that the bathroom used to be walled off an separate; they knocked the walls down, so no privacy for you! The only window is barred. The door doesn't look heavily reinforced but you've already tried kicking it in. A Pokemon could take it out, yeah, but not you.

Speaking of which... you have no idea where your team is. Spriggan was the only 'Mon on your person before you ate dirt, and his ball is nowhere in sight. You hope your team is okay. You hope your friends are okay.

There's a TV, a bed, a stool, a sparse bathroom, a dull spoon,... You don't even have your own clothes. Some black jumpsuit shit.

Fuck these people.

You settle into waiting. First, you try light exercise, which burns up thirty minutes. Then you flick on the TV... Static on every channel except one which is playing through an episode of the anime "Ditto Daze <3~!" You watch it for a bit, but then you realize that sitting there watch a Ditto transform Pokemon into people is stupid.

"Pft. Unrealistic anime shit. That's not even tsundere! She's just a bitch! And Metapods don't work like that!"

You flick it off and... well, you try meditating. That works for a bit, but you find yourself falling asleep. So bored. What the hell are you going to do? You spent 2 hours sitting here, and it's already killing you. Someone will come get you, right-

"Place the stool in the middle of the room," the camera's speaker blurts out a voice slightly marred by static. "Ss-zzz-zSit on the t-zzzs-stool. Wait for further orders."

You comply. If only to see what's going on or what's going to happen. Figure something out... Talk to them,,, Your thoughts are racing. Not a lot of training you could have undertaken for this kind of shit.

Eventually a man walks in. Your initial assessment? Tan face, with scars all over said face and muscles that look like they could break you in half. His hair grows out in weird spots or patches: a sprig of black hair above his ear, another around his crown. He's got a chair and he sits in down in front of you, giving you a better look: he's got scars on top of his head, too, and the hair grows around it.

He's blind in one eye.

"Grey." He's got a clipboard and some tools at his belt. "You did as asked. Good. Keep on doing that and your time here will be better, easier. Less painful."

You stare at him coldly.

"Tell me about the ARC-shards. Tell me what you know."

He grunts a bit. "And their names?"

"Uh, I think one was named Vader?"

Another grunt. "Okay, sure. Vader. And they talk to you. Have they told you what their purpose is?"

"... Purpose?" Your face reads confusion. Ignorance. Calm naivete. You're not the best actor in the world but you've done enough lying to get past this chucklefuck. "They only ask me weird questions and urge me to become the champ. That's it."

"Questions... Sure." He pulls a meter of some sort off his belt. "You know, I can't see anything too definitive on you right now. It's odd. I'm pretty sure you're bullshitting me about something, but the machine isn't picking up on anxiety. Odd."

"You know what, Grey...?" He gives you a smile not unlike a Carnivine. "It's nice being able to see inside someone's mind, effectively, once you cut them open and upload some sensors."

You pale a bit.

"Yeah. Usual stuff, you understand... Dont'cha? Have to monitor your heartbeat a bit, some chemical signals... Can't have you lying to me." He starts laughing. It's a sick, dark laugh. "But you're a pretty good liar! And I like that. I like that a lot."

You settle back into a comfortable, upright position and stay silent. Out loud, that is.

Inside? You're cursing this guy's name, his family, his mother, his dog. Fuck him and everything about this organization. Actually, you know what? Congratulations to him: he's cemented you as a firm enemy. Thanks for introducing a new life goal: dismantle TITAN.

The two of you sit there, quietly. Staring. Anger, smugness, contempt...

The clock ticks on by. Silence settles between you, rolling and bubbling into an uncomfortable hostility. He finally breaks it.

"You got a real big bitch-streak, boy."

You nod.

"Tell me what you know about ARCEUS. Just spit it out. It's for the good of humanity, yeah? We're all working together here." He forces a grin, hands gesturing sympathetically. "All you gotta do is tell me every-little-fucking-thing you know. Come on."

You nod in a faux "oh, really? Oh, I didn't know that. That changes everything" manner, pantomiming surprise and a bit of shock. And, then just as suddenly, you settle back into silence.

He growls. You see him reaching for something at his belt, and it doesn't look like a meter.

"KAL."

The speaker harshly buzzes again; a different voice, now. A woman's.

"OUT HERE. NOW."

Kal's hands go to his face. He throws the clipboard aside, knocking the chair over while cursing and mumbling. He cuffs you on the head again before he leaves.

He slams the door open, and then there's yelling on the other side. Mostly his.

>Medium difficulty. Success.

You look over to the clipboard he left behind, picking it up and skimming through real quick before tossing it under your bed, hiding it beneath the sheets.

You look to the camera... Oh, fuck them. Whatever. It'll have to do.

You go to the door, pressing your ear to it in order to hear better...

"...----to get him ON OUR SIDE, KAL!"
"I--- know---."
"-You--- Can't be BEATING him like that---"
"THEN--- go in THERE! Just open him--- ALREADY!"
"FINE! --- ------ --- DIRECT ORDERS, but FINE!"

You head back to the stool. The door opens. It's not Kal this time, it's the woman. You settle yourself, trying to ignore the pain on the side of your head. She's quiet, semi-professional. A bit older than you. She doesn't make eye contact, only scanning the room initially.

"Kal...?" She shouts back out the door. Her accent rolls and trills. "Where's the clipboard...?"

"I have no fuckin' clue! I was pissed! I probably set it down someplace."

"Fine. Fine fine fine... Everything's fine." She sighs and closes the door after muttering something in a foreign tongue. You don't recognize the language.

She leans against the door and centers herself. Your eyes meet for a second before she snaps her vision back to her front.

"Grey, Target 5. Do not move. Do not try anything. I will not talk to you. Try to harm me and you will be physically harmed and/or restrained permanently. Is that understood?"

You don't say anything. That's what she wants, right...? Crazy fucks.

No you don't. Fuck you people,

"You're NOT GETTING IN MY MIND!"

You shout it at her mentally, pouring every bit of experience you have from communicating and training with Mittens. It's not much, but you feel some of the flow abate. Unlike Mittens, whose mental connection is warm, soft, and welcoming, Seline's is cold. Calculating. Penetrating. A few tendrils of her mind escape your hold and pry at your memories, your thoughts. Your last fight with your mother, meeting Dani...

"NO. You CAN'T HAVE THOSE!"

You push back more completely, now. The last sight you had was of Seline straining, her teeth on her lip and her fingers clenched around the seat of the chair. She seemed to be chanting something in that damn foreign language again, strengthening her and loosening your own focus. You closed your eyes, then, and set more deeply into your emotional and mental trenches.

You threw decoys at her, insults, horrible images; you laughed, sung, danced... The mental storm flying between the two of you was vicious and draining on both sides. You had to fight to keep up the intensity and she had to struggle to navigate it. Still, despite your best efforts a tendril or two managed to find some sort of path, something big in your mind... Something you realized she could see but you couldn't. A mental blind spot.

It must be important, and so you redoubled your efforts on protecting it. You hear the chair fall to the floor and feel Seline's panting breaths but it's as if it's in a different world. A lifetime away.

She touches It. Some monolithic form of thoughts and memory, separate from the rest of you.

A light washes over both of you, menacing and "sharp," like a wave of razor-sharp suffering given form. It is not of you or your soul. You are afraid and flinch away from it, trying to outrun the tsunami. Seline's stuck. She tries to escape but she can't. It washes over her.

"SELINE!"

>cont.
>>
>>37415341

You sit there on the stool, eyes screwed shut and fingers digging into your palms. Blood drips from your hands as claw at the air, digging it into your lungs. Your mind scrambles in a panic, trying to contain and settle itself.

"SELINE! SELINE, what HAPPENED? Why are you bleeding?"

You snap open your eyes. Sweat and relief rolls off of you for a second. Then you see Kal on his knees, cradling Seline. She's bleeding from her nose.

"You... YOU FUCK!" He looks up to you with rage. Confusion. Anguish. "You're some sort of PSYCHIC, Aren't you, buddy? Thought you could fuck with us?"

You shake your head. He's still moving towards you.

"Thought you could fuck with Seline...? Think you know pain, boy? THINK? THINK, HUH? WHAT DO YOU THINK?"

He hits you.

>Low difficulty. Success.

You jump out of the bed and take to the ground running. She doesn't move or flinch. You don't care. your eyes are on one thing and one thing only: that gun.

You tackle her, arms going out, hitting her, and dragging her to the ground. You both crumple, her underneath you and your hands around her wrists. She dropped the gun. She still looks impassive.

"What the fuck is going on? Why do you have a gun...? I'll hurt you! Let me go!"

Nothing.

"I'll fucking hurt you!"

She just stares at you. It's unsettling, and you find your grip on her relaxing oh so slightly. But then you come to your senses; anger flashes through your eyes. She tried to get in your head, steal things from you. Your most private of thoughts....

"Fuck you. Fuck you people." You spit out the words like venom. "Give me one good reason I shouldn't bash your head in, Seline!"

You search her eyes for fear, anger, confusion... Anything. She doesn't do anything for many long moments. You jostle her again. Nothing.

"Fine. No talking to me. Of course."

You make a point to push the gun away from her reach. When you turn back to her, though, she's started leaning up.

"No SUDDEN MOVEME-"

She kisses you.

Holy shit she's been taken by the warp! And the warps in our brain!

So apparently the warp wants to fuck us...not sure about that.
>>
>>37416519

Back away from her, possibly taking the gun from her as well...
Try and work out what is going on. Maybe we should ask her to take us to our pokemon and/or out of this place...

You push her off of you. Her eyes, like yours, were open the whole time. Her body tense and unmoving under yours. You were shocked, surprised. She was not. Impassive, still. What the hell is up with her...? What's going on?

"...M-...Mittens?" You get up in a hurry and grab the gun, pointing it near her form but not at her. "Is that you, Mittens?"

"No." She finally speaks; like her physical and emotional behavior, though, it is rather robotic. "Kissing you was the most prudent action for confusing you and breaking you out of your aggression. We must go, now. You must be brought to safety. I shall aide you in this form."

"What...? This form?" You point the gun at her chest, now. You've never held one like this before... Is it loaded? Is the, uh, safety off? "Who are you? WHO? WHAT'S GOING ON?"

"I am Seline."

"Bullshit." you thrust the gun at her as she gets up. Her hands stay in the air; no surprise or fear on her face... "You're not human! Something happened to you! What's in my head? WHO DID YOU SHOOT?"

"I shot Kal. Dipping in your mind convinced me to help you. Your mind is in your head. I am human." She turns and begins walking through the door. "We must leave. I shall take you to your belongings."

I....this girl likes avoiding answers way too much and she saw the eye of terror. we must know what the hells in our fucking head that its making us Pokemon Jesus or something.

I mean holy shit she goes from terrorist to helpful in one brain rape? what the FUCK is in there?!

WHATS IN THE BOX?!?
>>
>>37416734
....can we loot Kal's corpse?
>>

>Follow her.
"What do you mean convinced you. What did you seen. Why were you after me in the first place."
Questions, question, question...
>>
>>37416850
I'm kinda agreeing with this. Whatever the hell she saw either literally rewrote her mind, or is channeling her like a meatsuit puppet and is just wanting to make us focus on living.

I don't think you have too many chances to speak the eldritch abomination in your brain like this if the latter is going on.

But we still need to get moving. crazyness aside we need to get the fuck out.
>>
>>37416734

"Hold on. Hold it." She stops and goes stock still in the hallway. You watch her back for a moment before systematically searching through the rooms. Three are empty; the other contains two beds, some personal items... And Kal. Shot through the head. Blood's everywhere.

"Oh fuck." You shut the door and back into the hallway. "Fuck fuck fuck."

"Why...?" You whisper, looking back at the young woman's form. "Why did you shoot him? What happened in my mind? What did you see in my head?"

"I didn't see anything in your head. That would be impossible without surgery."

You snap a bit. Just that tiny, fragile bit of emotional sanity you had tucked away... It crumbles.

"FUCK YOU! Stop dodging my questions, damn it! TELL ME, what is IN my MIND! The-the part that ISN'T me! No riddles!"

She's quiet. You run your fingers along the metal of the gun.

"Come, Grey. We must hurry. With communication from this location ceased forces will be scouring the area very quickly. We must get to a safe distance before then."

You relent, but only barely.

"Fine. Lead the way. You're not human. Stop saying you are; you'e not Seline, either. Something changed her... And now it's you."

"As you wish to believe."

She leads you down a set of stairs; more electrical equipment, some files, various sets of gear, and then, finally, a large safe. She produces a key and opens it. She hands you your gear and belongings along with one Pokeball. Sprig's (who is a she, sorry for messing that up).

>>
>>37417080

"Where's the rest of my team, Seline?"

"You said I was not Seline."

You sigh. You're scrambling around the room, overturning bins, boxes, stacks of paper... Nothing. No sign of your team. Not even in your containers or pack. "Listen. Seline. Not-Seline. Whatever. I... I need my team. They're like family. More than Pokemon. More than friends."

"More than a human?" She cuts in.

"Listen- no, just. Look, where are they? Were they a caught?"

She shakes her head no.

"Oh thank the stars... Thank goodness. Fuck yes." A huge pit of tensions closes and then unfolds, muscles relaxing in your body as you breath away one of the biggest of your worries. "Fine. Sprig will see us through." You release him. He comes out vicious, snarling and tensed for acti- Then he sees you and it melts away. He's back to his playful, happy self. You pat him on the head.

"Alright, NS. I'll call you Ness, actually. Yeah... that works."

"Ness? NS?"

"Not-Seline."

"Yes. Not Seline, as you said. Follow me."

The three of you set out, your unnervingly-silent and calm guide setting a hard pace.

You note that the trees are different. The ground is different... How? How is the ground different...? Ground. Dirt. Ground. Red dirt. Green Grass. Is the grass different? What is it...

"Where are we, Ness?"

"What was once Northern Georgia."

You pale. That's why; you don't get red clay in the central parts of Southern Shores. You're hundreds of miles away from Jay City. The tour. Your friends. Fuck.

"Ness... Ness, we're hundreds of miles away from my Tour. How am I getting back?"

"Why would you go back?"

I'll be writing smut requests for the rest of the night. Why? Because I can and I need something not-serious to write for a bit.

Also, questions and complaints are always welcome regarding P:SS. If you hated this thread then say so.
