It’s rare that a Hive Fleet leaves viable biomass in its wake, let alone a functioning synapse creature. But left behind you were: a single Zoanthrope and a handful of Gaunts on the burning wreckage of an Imperium Cruiser. Said debris was swept up by a passing Space Hulk in time, affording you and your Gaunts access to biomass and a more stable place to call “home.”

All the while you’d been calling out to the massive presence that you used to be a part of as it slowly faded from your mind. With the Hive Mind gone you retreated into yourself and began to think on how to return to the fleet. The Gaunts weren’t much help in this department as they were only focused on carving out new nests from the mass of the Hulk. You facilitated them best you could but it was only natural for you to begin longing an intelligent conversation.

Perhaps that’s why when the voice started you didn’t just write it off. Desperate for something even remotely close to the shared consciousness you once knew, you listened as a being from a realm beyond promised you a new home and a new fleet. All you had to do was wait on the Hulk for a blue-winged daemon and her red-skinned friend. Normally Chaos and Tyranids don’t mix, but again you were forlorn. So you waited. And in short order (relatively) you came to be part of Cinder the Bloodthirster’s strange band.

At first you were apprehensive. What Tyranid wouldn’t be? It was a well-known and understood truth that any bioform showing the taint of Chaos would be destroyed with extreme prejudice. But the longer you stayed with the group of daemons, especially the plaguebearer known as Acerea, the more you felt like you belonged. It wasn’t at all like the warmth and glory that was the Hive Mind but it was a welcome substitute.

(cont)
>>
>>37400710

Oh and your Gaunts had something better to eat now. A select few even began showing signs of greater intelligence. But not enough to matter. Thus, when Cinder announced that she was taking the group to a world of the Imperium, you did your best to not spin mid-air in glee. You weren’t going to leave the daemon’s side any time soon but perhaps the Feudal World of Fervious could be the start of something new. A new fleet even, given time.

Your planetfall was nearly a month ago. In that time you’ve worked with Acerea and her apprentice to spread both spores and disease throughout the human populace via their highly valued Styger Milk. Between you three you control 75% of the milk production across the entirety of Fervious. It all seems to be going just as planned until one of your Genestealer Cults’ Contagii reveals that there’s an active Inquisitorial presence on the planet…

If you’re a die-hard lover of canon, I suggest you turn away now. Like all things 40k, the gauntlet runs from “worshipping the printed word” to “over the top silliness.” Most of the time it’s somewhere in between. Others it swerves hard to one side and/or breaks this model entirely. You’ve been warned in advance.

All rolls go against a specified characteristic in the style of Black Crusade. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure.

Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1 or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If multiple characteristics are being rolled for, each 1d100 counts for its respective test. Any rolls prior to the call for one and those not linking said post will be ignored. You’ll want to pay attention to the notes on Sytili’s sheet in particular when it comes to Psychic-based rolls and defenses.

I have no idea how often or how long we’ll float behind Sytili’s head. We’ll play it by ear. Or whatever the Tyranid-equivalent of an ear is. Probably another mouth to eat stuff with if I had to guess.

Excessive meta/whining/waifu’ing/etc goes to another thread. Blatant Samefaggotry and smutty requests will be ignored.

...Wait a second, how does Cinder have biomass? She's a daemon, not even a daemon host.
>>
“Sytili? What’s wrong? You’ve frozen up, dear.”

Acerea’s voice interrupts your mental dialogue with the Genestealer Patriarch responsible for passing you the information about the Inquisitorial group. You keep forgetting that none of the daemons can hear all the thoughts you do at any given time.

“We… might have a problem…” you rasp, letting yourself bob slightly in the air. “It sssseemsss sssome acolytesss are poking around.”

To her credit, the plaguebear’s smile doesn’t even falter. “Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. But I am surprised! I thought we’d have more time before having to move into phase two. Are you sure they’re here because of us?”

That you don’t know. You just know that one of the Contagii noticed a ragtag group of a tech priest, a psyker, and an assassin flashing a rosette to some Arbites. That was about an hour ago. You’dve known sooner (almost instantly in fact) but the Patriarch didn’t like sharing its mind with yours. Understandable to a point, given the Genestealer streak of independence, but something you’d have to address sooner rather than later.

To be honest with yourself, you’re still getting the hang of controlling anything more intelligent than a Gaunt. It was once second nature to you but the finer points have been lost in time. Or maybe it’s the influence of Chaos. You’re not really sure. Though that would explain why you’re still able to maintain your own thoughts independent of whatever lesser creatures are connected to you.

A stifled cough echoes throughout the barn that you’re sharing at the moment with Acerea. She seems to be staring pointedly at you.

Right. She still can’t read your mind. You should say something.

“Not really,” you admit. “One of my underlingsss jusssst happened to ssssee a rossssette like Cinder’ssss being flassshed around. I doubt that we’ve been disssscovered.”

You have been very careful, after all. Even though collectively you control a large portion of the milk production on the planet you’ve all been very cautious about introducing new rogue elements. If too many people start mutating or becoming sick then someone might investigate and put the pieces together. In fact, if you had to guess, only about 2% of the planet’s population has even come into contact with the tainted stock.

Acerea mulls this over for a moment. “We didn’t exactly check to see what sort of problems existed here prior to landing. Any number of things could have brought a team of Acolytes here. But I’m afraid I’m not the expert on that sort of thing. Ignitrix is.”

She shrugs and shakes her head before continuing. “But maybe we should look into it more. I’d hate to ruin Cinder’s fun. Last I knew she was managing tournaments and duels for the right to taste her one-of-a-kind strength enhancing formula.”

Ah yes. Cinder. She’s here on the planet as well, though her efforts are centralized on a single farm. You personally haven’t chatted with her much since landing. Micromanaging hundreds of lifeforms is rather time and attention consuming.

“I could alwaysss have my Genesssstealer handle it,” you offer.

“Hrm… But aren’t they sort of in that ‘rebellious teenager stage’ where they won’t listen to their mother?”

You blink twice as you parse her words. “I ssssuppossse that isss an apt desscription, yessss.”

“So maaaayyybbbeee we should look into this ourselves, hm?”

You nod in agreement. This has the added effect of causing you to oscillate just so mid-air. “That might be for the besssst.”

Acerea’s face brightens as she claps her hands together. “Splendid! It’s been AGES since I’ve had some lovely little humans to corrupt and torment~”

“They might be good Biomass too…” you add to this as almost an afterthought. You haven’t been pushing this angle too hard but you know at some point it will be an issue. Chaos and Tyranids don’t get along traditionally because they compete for the same resource: humans. Right now your budding swarm has a whole planet to spread across. They have plenty to eat besides the hairless apes. But down the line, should you actually manage to build a fleet from nothing… Well it’s something to keep in mind.

For now, Acerea simply beams and pats your head before motioning at the barn door. Like most of the building it’s been almost consumed by the miniature garden the plagebearer’s grown. “How would you like to start? Shall I make a distraction and lead the acolytes here?”

“No. Let me handle that…”

You reach out and knock on the door that leads to the Patriarch’s mind. When it doesn’t answer you mentally kick it open. <Hi,> you boom into its mind. <You’re going to have your Contagii there tell the acolytes that “They may get the answers they’re looking for if they go to the Brandston Villa tonight.”> Said villa is about an hour’s journey away from your current location and is otherwise abandoned. Public record from before you got here says it’s been like that since a typhoon a few years back. The perfect place for an ambush.

To no surprise, the Genestealer is slightly miffed about being ordered around. <As you wish. But if this leads back to my cult I shall…>

<You’ll do what, exactly?>

<The weak should not lead.>

<Is that a threat?>

<It is merely an observation.>

As you formulate a reply you sense, through him, that your message is being delivered. You watch through the Contagii’s eyes as he approaches the acolytes and says exactly what you ordered. Then it begins to wander off before the Inquisitorial Agents can corral it for questioning. Prior to your biological microphone leaving earshot, you hear the Psyker whisper, “I don’t like it one bit.”

“You don’t like anything,” replies the assassin. “But it’s the best lead at the moment. Unless you think bothering the Mechanicus again…”

Then you hear a whistle from the Tech Priest before the Genestealer closes the connection. It might be your time with Cinder but that really doesn’t sit well with you. Not the Acolytes, the Patriarch’s attitude.

Do we still take a fellowship test if we aren't lying? Say if we were to give him some spores formulated to fuck him up? Cook up a special batch just for him.

Also, fucking with the Patriarchs mind right as some of his troops are near the acolytes might be a bad idea. If we are going to do this can we at least try to cordon off the others so they can maintain their cover.

Mustering up your psychic strength you barrage into the Patriarch’s mind and drive its consciousness into a corner. <I’m going to say this ONCE and only ONCE,> you thunder. <Biomass is replaceable. Biomass that doesn’t listen and behave will be consumed. And for you it won’t be quick. Oh no. I will personally find a Blank, chain you to it, then have Rippers slowly eat away at you for days as you cry for mercy. ARE WE CLEAR?>

You get a weak <Skree> back. Translated, you’re pretty sure it means “ohgodpleasedon’tkillme.” Or that it had better. Either way your conversation with the genestealer is over. When you withdraw you note (with some satisfaction you might add) that the door to its mind remains open. Good.

“I had my underlingssss deliver a messsssage,” you say to Acerea. Already you’re hovering over towards the door. “We’ll need to be over at the Brandssssston Villa as quickly as posssssible.”

“Setting up an ambush, are we~?” she asks as she falls in behind you. You nod, prompting her to continue. “I’ll see if I can’t have the Engine dampen communications over that area then. Maybe they’ll be like every other member of the Inquisition thus far and will be too stupid to have a backup plan.”

It only takes you but a moment’s concentration on the barn doors to get them rumbling out of the way. “You don’t sssssound sssso confident, Acerea.”

“It’s my job to worry, I fear. Especially since Ignitrix isn’t around to do so.”

“I’ll try not to make any progenitor referencessss.”

“Umm…”

Damn the spoken word. If you’d said that in her mind it would have translated properly. This only happens very rarely and then usually when it comes to humor.

You spin around in the air to face the plaguebearer while still maintaining your previous velocity. Having no legs may be annoying sometimes but floating around definitely has its perks too. “I’m implying that you act like a mother to everyone in the group.”

“And why might that be, hmmm~?” she teases. “Maybe I’m just being friendly~”

“No. It’ssss more than that. The othersssss… they don’t ssssee it but I do. I’ve been in your mind, remember?”

Her smile lessens by a fraction of a degree. “I suppose you have me there. But remember I’ve been in yours too, if only a little. I know you feel just the same way about your flock.”

That gets you to laugh. It’s an odd sort of short screech but it’s your laugh. “I don’t think you yell at Cinder quite like I yell at my Gauntssss or my Genessstealersss.”

“Oh~?”

The next hour is a back and forth about your time prior to meeting the group of daemons and what it is to be a synapse creature. By the time you draw to a close you’ve already reached the Villa. Seeing it in person makes you wonder how it hasn’t been torn down or repurposed. For the most part the large, square-shaped building is intact. Sure there’s a large hole and debris in the western wall but you know the humans are capable of repairing worse. It’s not until you and Acerea wander into the inner-garden at the center of the Villa that you realize why it’s remained untouched. There’s a crater just off-center of the garden. In it is a meteorite made of some sort of green crystal. Just looking at it makes you feel uneasy.

(cont)
>>
>>37404132

“Huh,” says Acerea as she goes over to examine the fallen object. “I’m no expert but I think it’s radioactive still. Not enough to matter to us unless we ate it but humans might have a bit more difficulty with it. Especially since… Ah yes. The building’s main well is right below this. You wouldn’t be able to grow anything here or drink the water.” Somehow she gleams all of this by merely tapping the crystal once before touching the darkened, dead soil.

“Do you think it will sssscare off the acolytessss?” you ask.

“Maybe. But they don’t need to come this far in, do they?”

She has a point. Now that you’re here you need to come up with a plan of attack for the ambush.

A subtle suggestion from you about how this place could use more greenery sees Acerea humming and moving towards the western wall. When she comes back she tells you, “All we need to do is get them to walk into the rubble. My vines will take care of the rest.”

“Vinessss huh?”

“Well not much else will work near that crystal. Even in the short term.”

“Ssssssuper. I guessss I’ll try to enthrall that Psssssyker then. He sssshould be an easssy target.”

“Just try not to blow out his mind, dear~”

The next hour and a half pass uneventfully. Well mostly. You do manage to get a few cockroaches to do a salsa to Acerea’s amusement. By the time the acolytes arrive you’re more than ready to get the show on the road.

Or so you think.

As you cast out your mind towards the headlights approaching the Villa on the road you hit a wall. An extremely solid, well-built mental fortress of blinding golden light. Whatever sanctioning this psyker went through it’s the real deal. You might as well have been a fly on their vehicle’s windshield.

Hey there’s an idea.

A quick redirection later gives you ears. Shitty ones, like you’re hearing everything through a tube and in the rain.

“That’s it up ahead, yeah?” says a female voice. The assassin?

“Correct. My auspex is never wrong.” That has to be the Tech Priest.

“Except when it comes to reading directions. Remember that one time on…”

A whistle cuts the female voice off. Definitely the Tech Priest. Then a third person, male, adds to the conversation, “I still don’t see why I couldn’t just stay back at the safehouse with Lura and Hobins. There won’t be anything for me to read out here.”

(cont)
>>
>>37405281

“Because, Marcus, I have a bad feeling that you’ll be needed.” Well there’s the Psyker. “Especially since SOMETHING just tried to touch my mind.”

Wonderful.

For a few minutes there’s nothing but the sound of the ground vehicle traveling over the road. Then the female voice speaks up. “Hey is anyone else’s bead working? Mine’s dead.”

A chorus of negatives quickly follows, along with a muttering of what must be binary chant from the Tech Priest.

“I don’t like it. It’s probably a trap. We should come back in the morning.”

“Marcus stop being a ninny. It might be or it might not. What are you going to tell the Lord Inquisitor, that we passed up a lead because you were scared?”

“Better scared and alive than dead in a ditch.”

“Sounds like heresy to me.”

“Shut up. It’s not my fault you three like jumping into minefields just because they’re there.”

Then the fly dies. Curse them and their horribly short lifespans. You’re going to have to come up with something new.

Hey, can we do this with the gaunts?
>>
>>37405312

Rippers and Gaunts have slightly longer lifespans than flies, plus they’re just generally more useful. Now that you think about it you’ll have to look into Gargoyles and Sky-slashers, but that can wait. At the moment you concentrate on sending the four Hormagaunts you had accompany you to the Villa to the compass rose directions about the dilapidated building. With a little luck and some careful misdirection you’ll still pull this off without having to get personally involved.

The first hint you have of the acolytes entering the perimeter proper is via a Gaunt on the eastern side of the Villa. Its picked up the sight of the humans trying to sneakily approach the ruins under the cover of the night. Now that you can see them proper you note that there are five monkeys in total: two Guardsmen, the Psyker, the Tech Priest, and what looks to be an Adept of some sorts.

You watch and stifle a laugh as the one who must be called Marcus trips over himself at least three times in moving some twenty meters. But you still have a problem: the acolytes are on the wrong side of the building. If you’re going to use the Gaunt there you’d best do it quickly before the window of opportunity closes. Already you’ve frantically waved at Acerea with your scything talons and pointed at the opposite wall.

With a prompt from you the nearest hormagaunt to the acolytes begins to dance from shadow to shadow. It’s nimble enough that the humans only get a fleeting glimpse of the creature before it vanishes into the dark. Each subsequent traversal puts them more on edge.

“See! I told you there was something out there!” shouts the Adept.

“Think it’s that thing you were talking about?” asks one of the Guardsmen to the Psyker. Of which adjusts his robes before replying.

“Perhaps. Keep whatever it is from disturbing me. I’ll see what I can find out.”

This doesn’t seem to sit well with the remaining Guardsman, the female. “So help me if you cause gravity not to work again I will shoot you on the spot. I don’t care if it means execution. Shit’s not right.”

Purposefully causing a psychic blowback isn’t something you like doing. Especially because it ends up hurting you in the process more often than not. Still, the merit of doing so here far outweighs the short-term pain you’ll have to endure.

“Ssssstand back,” you warn Acerea. “I’m going to attempt pssssionicssss. Oh and you sssshould probably make sssssure your presence is masssssked jussssst in casssse I fail.”

“Be careful, hon,” she replies, showing only a hint of worry. Classic her.

You push that aside and focus on ripping a hole in reality just above the psyker. Normally if you had a Hive Fleet backing you such things would be trivial. As you don’t the feedback from the sudden surge of power causes you to cry out in alarm and to spin on the spot. Acerea rushes to your side almost instantly to make sure you’re alright but your attention is focused on your Gaunt-Cam.

It seems you timed your anamoly well. Not only are all five humans flung 10 meters into the air but they’re left hanging there for at least two seconds. Two, the Tech Priest and the male Guardsman, come back down with a sickening crunch as they fail to fall correctly. The remaining three catch themselves somehow.

Immediately the Psyker begins backing away from the female Guardsman as she unholsters a pistol. “NONONO DON’T! IT WASN’T ME! IT WASN----”

Your own ears pick up the sound of the revolver firing. The effect is instantaneous: where there was once a head there is now none. Marcus doesn’t seem to be all that thrilled with this turn of events. Especially since most of the former-psyker’s brains and blood ended up on his robes.

“WHAT THE FUCK QUILLA?!”

“I WARNED HIM MARCUS. I FUCKING WARNED HIM. THAT’S THE FIFTH TIME TODAY AND I AM NOT DEALING WITH WHATEVER HELLSPAWN FOLLOWS WHEN HE TOTALLY LOSES CONTROL.”

“THAT DOESN’T MEAN YOU GET TO BE A FUCKING FIELD COMMISSAR.”

“SAYS THE HERETIC IN THE MAKING.”

You’re temporarily brought back to yourself as Acerea literally shakes you. “Please tell me you’re okay Sytili. Please.”

“I’m fine,” you reply. “Jusssst a little blowback, that’sss all. I’m fine.”

The plaguebeaerer’s cheeks puff out slightly. “It’d better be.”

“I sssswear. Now back in a bit…”

You gently pat her shoulder with one of your talons before returning your attention to the acolytes. Somehow in that 30 seconds you were gone they’ve entered a threeway mexican stand-off. Marcus has a bolt pistol of all things while the Tech Priest seems to have picked himself up and produced two las carbines

“PUT IT DOWN MARCUS.”

“NO FUCK YOU QUILLA. YOU’VE BEEN A DAMN BITCH THIS ENTIRE TIME AND…”

[Both of you cease this course of action at once. This is not the Omnissiah’s will.]

“STUFF IT TIN CAN.”

The Tech Priest’s las carbines shift to both point at Quilla. Which gives your Gaunt an opening to leap at him from Marcus’ side if you should so wish it.

You’ve never really tried putting someone into a bubble in the Immaterium before but you know it’s possible. After all, Ignitrix managed to do it with an entire Battle Barge. How hard can one human be?

Pretty hard, as it turns out. You have to harness the psychic potential of every Tyranid being on Fervious just to break the barrier. Forming a shell large enough for a human takes most of what you have left. There’s many reasons Tyranids don’t travel using the Warp and this is one of them - it takes far too much energy. But all said and done you have a nice new home for the Guardswoman.

Checking in with the acolytes you see they’re mostly as you left them. Good. You waste no time in opening up a “hole” in the ground underneath Quilla before your grasp of the psychic energies dissipates. To the two onlookers and your gaunt it’s as if she’s been swallowed up by hellfire itself. The humans don’t take it very well, screaming about how she doomed them all.

“Sooo, how’d it go?” asks Acerea.

“Oh. It actually worked pretty well I think. Though I have no idea whether or not ssshe’ssss actually ssssafe from daemonssss in there.”

She waves a hand at that. “Oh details. Worst case she’s a chaos spawn now and we’ll have to kill her. Or have one of your gaunts eat her. I’m sure it’ll be fine. But what about the two still out there? Do you know where their friends are or why they’re even here in the first place?”

“Not yet…”

It’s not all that hard for your Hormagaunt to use the shadows to its advantage in getting close to the unconscious guardsman. The problem comes when it tries to move the body. Unlike other biomorphs that have manipulators (hands) the hormagaunt only has long scything talons. Thus it’s stuck having to use its mouth to latch onto an arm in order to make any headway. All the while the two acolytes continue to fight one another. You’re starting to wonder whether they’re even under the effects of crippling fear at this point.

The question becomes: will you deny the gaunt a meal so you have someone to pry for answers or will you let it eat and risk exposing yourself to the two acolytes?

In all good conscience you can’t take biomass away from a gaunt that’s performed admirably. So you let the thing eat the (now) dead guardsman.

“We’re going to have to deal with them perssssonally I fear,” you reply to Acerea. “It sssshouldn’t be too hard. They’re basssssically beating each other’ssss brainssss out assss we ssssspeak.”

“Oooo~! Those are the best kind!” she exclaims. “It’s very easy to mindbreak or push them over the insanity edge when they’re like that. From there it’s just a few whispers to get them to tell you everything~”

You pause, looking her up and down. “You ssseem… a bit too happy about thissss.”

“What can I say dear, I’m a daemon and a sadist. Now come along~”

You follow the practically waltzing plaguebearer outside. When you reach the brawl the Tech Priest and Adept are STILL going at it. DM’s note: I’ve been rolling their WP offscreen. This shit is just as bad as rolling legitimate daemonhost on my first Psyker roll ever

Acerea coughs to get the two humans’ attention. “Ahem~”

Their heads turn in unison to see you floating behind a green-skinned daemon. It’s no wonder Marcus sneaks in another punch before both of their mouths fall agape.

“Yes. Hello to you too. Now I have you have a choice, little ones. Either you can come with me…” She steps aside and motions at you. “Or you can deal with my friend here. Either way, you will be telling us what you know.”

The adept finds his tongue first. “N-Never! You can eat me alive and I’ll never talk. Least of all to a daemon or her pet Tyranid.”

You let out a snort and float closer to him. He visibly recoils and cowers at the motion. “I am no onessss pet, biomassss. And if you are ssssso eager to be eaten then…” At your mental command the head of the guardsman comes flying to land at his feet, followed by the ominous red eyes of the other gaunts glaring at him from the darkness. “I sssshall make it sssso.”

>>37409066

[ERROR: SANITY NOT FOUND] chatters the Tech Priest, his mechadendrites spasming out of control. This elicits a giggle from Acerea.

“Oooh he’s one of these. A little disease and corruption and I’ll have him singing Nurgle’s praises in no time. The mechanical ones are always so easy~ Will you be alright with that one?” She point at Marcus.

“Thisssss wassste of flesssh?” You let your eyes wander down until they meet Marcus’. His eyes somehow find a way to be even wider as they begin roving about in the search of something that isn’t fear inducing. Needless to say the effort is for naught. “Yessss. I’ll be alright. Go have fun.”

Acerea gives you a toothy grin before walking over, reaching down, untangling the cogboy from his fellow acolyte, and taking him by the collar back into the Villa. Meanwhile you have your gaunts come even closer to form a semicircle at the Adept’s back. That just leaves you hovering over him with the moonlight at your back.

“Why are you here?” you demand simply.

That gets you a spit wad in your face. Right where your scything talons can’t reach. It’s a good thing you’re psychic.

“Oh sssso now the coward playsssss tough? I wonder how you’ll hold up to thisssss.” You motion at your gaunts. “Resssstrain him.”

Each of the Tyranids chomps down on a different limb, thus completely immobilizing the Adept. His screams of pain are only matched by the shrieks of horror coming from inside the Villa. “Good, yesss. Now you sssee thissss?” A quick bit of concentration sees the loogie on your face flying off and condensing into a ball in frot of Marcus. “You’re going to tell me everything or it’ssss going down your throat.”

“I-I-I-It’s j-just spit, you stupid x-xenos.”

“Isssss it now?”

You let your eyes flash for show to mask an illusion being weaved around the simple bit of liquid. To the man, it now looks like a flaming hot coal. He whimpers and tries in vain to get away yet the gaunts hold him fast.

“Lasssst chance before I roasssst you for my flock’ssss enjoyment. WHY. ARE. YOU. HERE.” The last four words are punctuated by you jabbing the “coal” into his face. It’s not even giving off any heat, being a quick illusion and all, yet he reacts as if it were.

“We we were s-sent to see why the tithe wasn’t being filled. And why the planetary governor’s gone missing. And the corruption rumored to be in the Arbites and…” He stammers and babbles off a long list of repeating reasons why the Inquisition had sent a team to Fervious. Nothing about Tyranids or Chaos but you have to be sure.

“Bite down harder.”

“N-NO-ARHHHHHH” You hear the bones crunch in the hormagaunts’ jaws.

“Will your friendssss tell me the ssssame ssstory?”

“Y-YES! I S-SWEAR!”

“And where are they exactly?”

He rattles of an address you pass on to the Patriarch. Sure enough it comes back valid within a minute.

“Harder.”

“WHHY---”

“Becaussssse, you ssstupid ape, my gauntssss are hungry and my patience issss at an end. Sssswear to me that all you’ve ssssaid issss true and that there issss no other Inquisssitorial presssence on Fervioussss.”

“I… I SWEAR.”

You float back into the darkness, nodding. “You can eat him now.”

“WHAT. NO. I--”

Thanks to the psychic link you can even taste the adrenaline coursing through his veins as the hormagaunts tear savagely into him. But you’ll savor that later. Right now you have a few more acolytes to take care of.

You now have whatever the 40k equivalent of a Toyota Hilux is. No idea how a Zoanthrope will use that but I'm sure Acerea might think of something if nothing else.
>>
>>37409915

As you wander about the Villa, trying to discern what corner Acerea’s taken her captive to based on screams alone, you prod your Genestealer. <You have the address. Take a batch of the new formula and see that they get three bottles a piece. If I do not sense them becoming Contagii by the time the sun rises you’re getting replaced. We clear?>

You get another timid skree. <Good. When you’re done have them report back to their Inquisitorial contacts that all is well on Fervious.>

Leaving the link open so you can make sure the deed is done, you continue your meandering. You eventually find Acerea tending to a very large and very green tree in the middle of the Villa’s garden.

“I thought you ssssaid nothing thisss complex would grow here?”

She turns, positively radiant. “Ah but that’s just the thing. This is no ordinary tree. This is a living, breathing, Tech Priest.”

On cue the tree seems to sigh. It must be more of the plaguebearer’s bio-engineering. “But what of the cryssstal?”

Her tone changes to be a tad darker and her grin falters. But only for a moment. “It simply vanished before my eyes, taking all traces it had ever existed with it. The Engine’s verified that nothing left or even entered orbit tonight. I even have a few daemons I know looking for it in the Warp but so far nothing’s turned up. Whatever it was it’s gone now I’m afraid.”

Best you can tell she’s not lying about any of it. Acerea lying to you would be a first anyways.

A shame. Fighting an Imperial assassin would have been interesting. But then maybe Cinder will have a imperial execution force sent after her when she's more infamous. She and her friends can call dibs on which assassin to take on.
>>
>>37410691
Cinder is more likely to requisition a couple temple assassins to have them kill for her, and then fight her when they find our they've been doing Khorne's work.
>>
>>37410703
Those that survive all this will become Chaos Assassins and found new temples, because the Imperium didn't have enough problems.
On a tangentially related note, think we'll find a leftover Moerorus egg? Because again: the Imperium didn't have enough problems.

The next few days sees you returning to the same “lull” of the month prior. Most of your time is spent either tweaking the spores carried within the Styger milk or mulling over what you’re able to find out about the crystal. Apparently it had always been a central piece of the Brandson Villa. In fact it was why the structure was built where and how it was. The gemstone had only become radioactive after the Typhoon that brought down the western wall. Otherwise it was the prime jewel of the owner’s garden. Many have tried to remove or steal it but none were able to dislodge it from the crater.

Thus you’re left having to pocket the fact a small mystery got away from you for the time being. You have much more important things to worry about after all. Like the upcoming planet-wide announcement from Cinder that will see Phase 2 begin. The 70 day part of the plan that will have whatever part of the population that doesn’t convert to Chaos reduced to biomass like the rest of the planet. By the end of it you’ll have a small little fleet of Bioships to call your own. Should you choose to stay around that long, of course. You thought you’d set them off chewing their way along the fringe of the Expanse while checking up on them now and again. So long as you keep growing in power you’ll be able to retake command of them whenever you so wish. It’s not like there’s any other Chaos-tainted Synapse around.

Speaking of which, you have a hard decision in front of you. Your current biomorph, the Zoanthrope, only has but so much potential. You could incorporate the Neurothrope strain into your being to circumvent that but you’re wary of what that might bring. Eating souls to grow more powerful seems like a path of friction between you and your daemon friends. Plus you worry it might be addicting. That’s what slew the Doom of Malan'tai after all. It ended up eating its own soul out of hunger and withdrawal.

The alternative is to fully embrace whatever Chaos brings. Granted, you haven’t exactly been fighting it but you know there’s definitely more to the corruption. You’re not sure what you’ll end up as on the other side, other than a synapse of some sort. It’s all so very unknown.

You know this has got me thinking - the reason why Acerea feels like she's less important than the other MCs is because she's always been the "camp mom" of the group. The kind of person who makes sure the other MCs have a place to come back to when they're done taking skulls or making plans. They never get the limelight because they don't need or want it. They're just happy helping whatever way they can. It's actually very Nurgle of her the more I think about it.
>>
>>37410990
Yep, that's the Ara Ara demon.
>>
So with [2] in the lead Sytili will essentially start to become a Warrior Prime hybrid of sorts. She'll sport features directly correlated to her points with the various gods. As it stands now, with her being at +4 strength, you get something extremely similar to >>37409326

Advancing Nurgle gets you toxic stuff. Tzeentch gives you wings. Along with the other goodies.

Yes it is possible to lose points but that doesn't become a factor until you hit 5 in one area.

With that I think I'll call it a night.

Iggy will be next up so I hope you've been thinking about how to corrupt SoBs.
