You are Michael Greystone, Colonial Governor and at various times a BOLO Supertank Commander, Free Trader and borderline Outlaw, Wildcat Asteroid Miner, and Interstellar Folk Hero. You have been given a chance to create on the storm-racked, algae-encrusted, Pseudo-Arachnid-infested rock called Tempest the kind of place you spent most of your life looking for in vain: A decent sort of place where a man can find honest work without the tax man taking all his money, live a life uninterrupted by government officials, corporate agents, and organized crime goons (or the wealthy who inevitably control all three), and raise a family in peace and freedom. Not Utopia, because Utopia will never exist, but better.

And no wonder Utopia never seems to materialize, because even in carving out the not-terrible settlement you've created so far, you've had to put down an inordinate number of motherfuckers.

Previously, you managed to get on the correct side of a Commonwealth Safety inspection, activated the schematics archives of your Autofactories, and Frontier Security is reasonably certain that your world is not, in fact, infected with mind-controlling alien spiders.

>You have a line on an older-model BOLO for sale in the scrapyards of the notoriously lawless Sycar Systems
>The Pseudo-Arachnids, or Rach, have resorted to a guerrilla campaign of constantly moving their queens and building small broods of Warrior-Caste to harass your defensive lines
>The political instability in your Canton governments has died down recently, as the successful "experiments" win out over the poorly-thought-out or obviously corrupt systems of local government. Demographic swings due to constant immigration and emigration continue
>Your income is 12 C per Turn

Whelp, can't do everything right.

>>Your Action, Governor?
Goddamn man, It's been so long

Lets get more power generators to bring everything to peak capacity and not have a power deficit
>>
>>37386972
>>37387121
Actually, got the pastebins for all the prices of the goods?
>>
>>37387175

Working on that. It's been so damn long, I can't remember what happened in what thread and why.
>>
>>37387175
Need some help with that?
>>
>>37387205
>>37387251
Shit quoted myself by accident
>>
>>37386972

Really? You return after so long at 1 fucking AM when I have classes in less than 7 hours?
>>
>>37386972
So, both the Commonwealth Safety and Frontier Security inspections are both done?
Do we get to read the reports that they'll be sending back?
And will the Navy Taskforce be leaving this turn?

Also, there's the matter of increased pirate activity, and that the pirates left are well-organized and have the ships to actually threaten our space forces.
>>
>>37387175

>you have 10 C in the Treasury

Edited to be more expensive, to reflect having to save up for infrastructure upgrades.

>>37387323

I told myself I was going to run TONIGHT, and I did. No more putting it off. I've got Dentistry to face in the morning, but that's not stopping me.
>>
>>37387431

Frontier security is still checking things out, and Safety is going to dawdle just so they can leave as part of the unified flotilla, so they'll still be around. The fleet won't leave for another two Turns.
>>
>>37387467
Okay, but what about their reports? Is the Safety report done, so that we can get an idea of what they're going to say about us?

Also, if the Taskforce is staying for 2 more turns, that means 2 more turns that we can take our own space forces out to do what we need, since the Navy will fuck up any space pirates that try to mess with our colony, right?
>>
>>37387467
If the fleet is staying for 2 turns that sounds like a prime opportunity for our fledgling navy to scout out the nearest systems and maybe deploy sensors (if that's possible in any way). None of this sending out small patrols to be bushwacked, scout in force. Especially if worried about local pirates.
>>
>>37387491
>>37387554

Reports are confidential. The other points are correct, and Smith agrees that this would be a prime time for exploration of the surrounding space.
>>
>>37387554
Also how long is the trip to Sycar turnwise?
>>
>>37387444
Alright then, what's our population look like so far? Nothing to crowded yet?

Also, lets embark on a planetwide tour of all the domes, get a feel for the population and government. I'm still iffy on such spread out control, the central authority needs more power in my opinion, to deal with matters that affect the planet as a whole, like cross dome commerce, relations, and mass weapon control. Don't want domes nuking each other or waging wars with militia over disputes.
>>
>>37387554
It's also a prime time for us to go on that shopping trip to the Sycar System with our destroyer and some escorts, so that we don't get bushwhacked by the seller who'd like nothing better than to get paid and not have to give up his wares.
>>
>>37387575
>>37387587
>>37387636

One Turn there, presumably a full Turn to deal with the negotiations and whatever else comes up, and one Turn back.

The Domes are not very nice places to live by their very nature, but you are not terribly overcrowded.
>>
>>37387694

Dammit, forgot Trip repeatedly.

If there are no objections, planetary tour post incoming.
>>
>>37387694
Anything about those Kzin females, or has that already been resolved?
>>
>>37387748

They're a remnant of a Terran Hegemony Black Operation to get the Hegemony's secret colony of intelligent females from a dozen sources to safety during the fall of the Hegemony in civil war and general chaos. The ship was attacked in Hyperspace, which should not be possible, and the remaining ships were most likely scattered across the local stars. You should be on the lookout for old Hegemony distress signals on your voyages.
>>
>>37387792
I mean the ones that we have. Are the Kzin aware, or are we keeping it under wraps for now?

Sorry if I sound redundant. I have no idea where we are anymore.
>>
>>37387824

I'm actually kind of lost myself, so don't feel bad.

They are aware, and keeping their existence secret until you're strong enough to deter a panicked Commonwealth military seizure.
>>
>>37387792
>>37387911

Oh, right, I almost forgot, and I don't remember if it's been addressed yet, and I haven't seen it addressed in the last thread, but some of the weapons (notably the power armor and high-power assault laser rifles) from the smuggler's cache still have their government ID chips active.

We were going to get those deactivated; can we have that done in the background?
>>
Gonna have to sleep soon governor, math shit tomorrow
>>
>>37387929
Wasn't it the LMGs that were chipped and everything else was dandy? Besides they're not gonna see much action off world except with pirates, I doubt they'd report us.
>>
>>37388102
Man, my captcha from that post belonged in a cards against humanity game.
>>
>>37388102
>Wasn't it the LMGs that were chipped and everything else was dandy?
LMG's, the high-quality laser rifles, and the high-quality mil-spec powered armor.

The LMG's we bought from a trader that warned us to get the chips removed before use.
The laser rifles and powered armor were from the hidden smuggler cache we found.
>>
>>37387911
Oh hows our special forces, the rangers, and navy doing, training wise and operationally? Is there alot of interaction in the militia between cantons (active serving) or is it like their separate police?
>>
You decide to make a trip. You've been dealing with the weighty matters of a Head of State for too damn long, and you worry about growing too far from the people you govern. Spending too much time moving pieces on a board has made many a general forget that each is anchored in the real world by living people.

There is the question of how to go about it, though. Can't go about this sort of thing half-cocked.

>Meet with the leaders of various Cantons to discuss important issues
>Meet with prominent Citizens. Business owners, chief engineers, political laeders, etc
>Meet with the average people in public bars and restaurant to get a feel for public opinion
>Host a Q&A 'Necast
>Other

>what do you do?
>>
>>37388129
Cool, given their much smaller quantity the power armor and lasers should be easy to de-chip. Didn't we de-chip the LMGs? Not that the chipping matters compared to our more pressing security and economic issues. Still could bite us in the ass later though.
>>
>>37388189
Host the Q&A I think. The planet is massive, and any sample we get by going to a bar or two is going to be indicative of the specific cantons. The Leaders will likewise have similar viewpoints on what they want. So the best option is to find out through the most common questions the citizenry have. Emulate the Fireside Chats of old (minus the Socialism)?
>>
>>37388129
>>37388153

Only the LMGs are chipped, to your knowledge, The weapons and armor from the Smugglers Cache may be stolen, however.

The Special Forces are coming along, slowly. Most of it is the difficulties in integrating Human, Android, and Kzin warriors. The Rangers are doing better, the enthusiastic old-west style Cowboys keeping pace with the augmented Megalopolis cops through sheer effort and questionable sanity, such as jumping from a pursuit vehicle to the top of a hijacked train.

The Navy is still very rough, the Auxiliary more so, but they're improving.

>Meet with the average people in public bars and restaurant to get a feel for public opinion

A la town hall style. Last from mr for the night, see you later

>>37388189
>Meet with the leaders of various Cantons to discuss important issues
The problem with a Netcast is that it's most likely going to get bombarded with stupid shit, since Space 4chan got loaded into shuttles and sent to us as colonists.
>>
>>37388239
>Only the LMGs are chipped, to your knowledge
The wiki states that the Power Armor still has their ID chips.
>>
>>37388260
>Space tumblr got loaded into shuttles and sent to us as colonists.
FTFY, and I think I might want to change my vote for the netcast to something else on that basis.
>>
>>37388189
>Meet with the average people in public bars and restaurant to get a feel for public opinion

While I have a feeling other options may be more effective this bar hopping inspection sounds like something our stressed governor could get behind. Q&A opens us too much to attack while the need for gaining popularity through such a high attention method is nill given recent successes and their morale boosting properties. Others are nice and could be done later. It would be hilarious if we stumbled into a ranger operation in a bar "Continue observing targe- holy shit is that the governor!?"
>>
wanna play so much, alas i am tired. being a hotdog salesman makes for an exciting work filled life!
>>
>>37388276
No, no.
We got both Space 4chan and Space Tumblr.
We've already had to deal with Space SJW's, and our hacker group are all Space 4chan.

>just noticed thread
>Decide to stay up to play
>just remembered I already took my sleeping pills.

motherfucker.

Was so looking forward to this too...

You decide to give the personal meetings a try, and set out to go bar-hopping.

You meet with miners, farmers, programmers, refugees, miners, soldiers, miners, businessman, prostitutes, strippers, miners, and also some miners. Recordings of your meetings have become incredibly widely viewed, and your general popularity has increased. Citizens who previously didn't care who you were had a chance to talk to you and see what you were all about, something that you know is all too rare with even low-level leaders. Most seem surprised by how... Like them you are. You talk like a normal person, speak Nihon, treat Gene-Mods and Androids like regular people, and actually understand what it's like to be a regular working man.

>great success.

>hate to do this, but I have to sign off now. Take this stub thread as a shadow of what is to come.

Goddamnit Gameroom, first you tease me on the eve of a major convention with a thread, AS I AM PACKING MY SHIT...

And you end it early. Goddamnit.

So, should we archive this?

Yes, at least that way we know where the hell we are next time in case OP takes another extended leave.
>>
Thread has been archived.

When did you come back? Just now?
