Guns can be good, with the right combo of skills and abilities. There's a guy in the show that has the power to make any part of his body or anything that comes out of his body, explode on contact with whatever he chooses. Normally he just flicks his boogers at people, but for emergencies he has a revolver where he'll breathe into the cylinder chambers and rapid fire it for multiple explosions.

The setting is based around the concepts of most Shonen stories and adventure. The most useful option is yer mitts because having a passionate fist fight is the easiest sort of action to draw out while still being high tension. Regular humans can lift multiple tons with enough training. Guns can still kill but most enemies worth their salt will either be able to deflect bullets, have bullet proof skin, have the bullet pass harmlessly through them because there body is made up of fire or water or something or moves at mach 4 to dodge it. The quest may handle it differently though yeah, and it's not like there aren't gun/ranged specialists in the series that use exotic ammunition to bring down foes. It just has less of an impressive track record in the setting compared to the others.

In case it comes up for a vote, Devil Fruits give powers ranging from awesome to weird to pretty dumb. Taking one means anytime you're submerged in sea water you lose all muscle control and sink to the bottom of the ocean so it has a big weakness.

No one knows where Devil Fruit come from, but there are three basic varieties.

The Zoan type allows you to transform into an animal. The user of this fruit has three forms: full whatever they were before, full animal, and a hybrid of the two.

Logia types are king shit of devil fruit mountain, because they allow the user to become an element. Ice, fire, smoke, things like that. They're also functionally invincible because attacks will pass right through them.

Then there's Paramacia, which is everything else. Rubber body, the ability to control your own weight, the ability to create wax.

No person can have more than one Devil Fruit ability, and if you try to eat two fruit you die. When a devil fruit user dies the nearest compatible fruit become a new devil fruit with that power. All devil fruit users lose their power when submerged in water or touched by a substance called Sea Stone, and they sink like hammers.

You take aim, not that you really have to. You've been taking shots at much farther distances for as long as you've been breathing!

You see his head in the scope, pulling the trigger and taking the kick back. It doesn't make you fall on your ass anymore, not like it used to. Now it's a pleasant feeling that shows you're still alive! You love the kickback.

Your bullet speeds through the air, making his head a bloody mess. It seems he doesn't realise he's dead, as his body stays standing for a solid three seconds before falling down into the ocean.
The four crewmates on his ship look at the place where his body fell in with horror and shock, not really understanding what's going on.
The men in the water hear the splash at look back, seeing their captain no longer on the ship, they look around in confusion, seeing the spreading red on the ocean and gaping in horror.

It doesn't seem to break their spirits like you'd hoped though, on the contrary, it seems to have riled them up even more!
You hear them yelling for blood, the men on the ship jumping down into the water and swimming swiftly to the shore.
It's not long until they're on the beach and cleaving away at the villagers, it's mayhem, it's horrible, and you just can't take your eyes away.

It's exactly like your nightmares brought to life. The screams of your friends, the metallic scent of blood on the air. The aura of death that seems to surround the pirates.

It's terrible. And you need to reload, you've taken out 4 more pirates before they came ashore, but the rest of their crew have arrived without mishap, and you can see at least 12 villagers dead, whilst only one of their crewmates lies lifeless on the beach.

You grab your rifle by the still-warm barrel and come charging at one of those pirate bastard, swinging it over your head and caving in the skull of the one directly in front of you. You see movement out of the corner of your eye, seeing it as not one of your villagers, you swing it in an overhand and deal his a blow, smashing his jaw with a loud *CRACK*.

Unfortunately your lack of skill with melee weapons shows, and one of the remaining two pirates manages to stab you in the stomach, making pain lance up your body and making you grit your teeth to steele yourself against it.
Bringing it in a low underhand swing and smashing his ribs in, making his fall to the ground and wheeze. Fortunately, the villagers finish him off with pitchforks and scythes.

You finally turn your attention to the last remaining pirate, he's a bull of a man, already having four fallen villagers around his feet, simultaneously holding off 6 of the residents of Baterilla seemingly with ease.

You rush toward him, swinging your rifle in the same manner that took out the first pirate in the melee, hoping to crush his skull; but he sees you before you can finish the swing, bringing his focus to you! 'Oh shit', you think to yourself. He's massive!
