>Those guys have to apologize for being so late at least twenty tomes while they load Irene into the van... once she's secure, they speed off.

>Leaving Archibald here with us?

>"Is that bitch still hiding?" he asks Charlotte.
>"Still hasn't moved," she replies.
>"Good. Now there's nothing keeping me from skewering her."

With a downright murderous look on his face, Archibald storms out of the alley and out to the sidewalk.

"Gauthier, which way did she run off to?" he asks, glancing at Charlotte.
"Keep on down that way," Charlotte replies. "she ducked into another alley."

Not even bothering to so much as say "thanks," Archibald breaks into a sprint in the direction that Charlotte specified. And then I go chasing right after him.

"Hey!" Charlotte shouts. "What are you doing!?"
"I'm gonna back him up," I reply, stopping for a few seconds to tell them where I'm going.
"Damn it..." Charlotte sighs. "I guess I'm stuck coming with you..."

As she runs after me, Charlotte turns to Mina... who rolls her eyes and puts away her phone before joining the rest of us.

She looks really pissed.

Skidding to a halt to a halt once he reaches the alley that Jessica holed herself up in, Archibald calls forth what I'm assuming are as many triangles as he can form at one time. Then he flexes his hand, and the triangles combine into a bunch of... floating swords?

I guess it's a good idea for him to get serious.

Archibald positions his floating swords in front of him before running into the alley... I'm tempted to go right in after him, but I notice that Mina hasn't caught up so I wait up for her before going in (naturally, Charlotte caught up pace with me like two seconds after I started running).

Once everyone's all set, I take the lead as we run into the alley.

Just in time to see Archibald SKEWER the shell of ice that Jessica's hiding in with every last one of his triangle swords at once. It looks like a pincushion.

not bad

While the three of us rush towards Archibald, he just stands there and stares at his handiwork.

"Oh God..." Mina gasps. "Did he really just-"
"It definitely looks like he did," Charlotte replies.

With a wave of his hand, the swords that Archibald stabbed the ice with break apart into their component triangles, and... it looks like he's concentrating?

"What's that scraping sound?" I ask, but I get my answer soon afterwards. Little by little, the white ice grows transparent and I can see what I assume are Archibald's triangles spinning around -inside- the ice like some kind of blender...

...oh God, THAT'S what his plan was.

"No," Archibald says, "there isn't."
"But how?" I ask. "I -saw- her hole herself up in that ice, and Charlotte's been watching it the entire time!"

I want to be relieved that I didn't have to bear witness to what would've amounted to a blood smoothie, but all I feel is disappointment that she's still alive.

Ignoring both of us, Charlotte walks right up to the remains of the ice shell and points down.

"Look," she says. "She froze the pavement and escaped into the sewers."
"What!?" I shout. "But I could've sworn that she was spent, and-"
"Of course it wouldn't have been that easy," Archibald mutters under his breath. "K- Hurt Irene like that and killed those other guys and now she's free to go and kill some more."

All of my strength leaves my body and I find myself dropping to my knees.

To be fair we're in a definite pickle, but we gotta prioritize in order to get out of this in good shape.
1. Don't die - Miss Frostbitch and her godlike power will come after us since we don't have the juice to finish her

2. Protect and mend Relationship with Charlotte - The biggest crutch to Cecile's sanity. If she's knocked out along with Mina and Theresa then Overchan will have an easy time taking over (assuming he wants to, but right now he seems pretty ok will just encouraging us to REMOVE)

Refriend Mina - After this fiasco give her a few days and talk to her at school casually. If she's still uneasy it'll take a lot longer than a few threads to solve it, so play it slow.

Bonus Objective: Theresa - As long as she's not actively attempting to murder us or interfere with the other 3 points than she's (relatively) fine to leave alone.

Theresa. It had to be Theresa, that's the only explanation. Mina called her up and she came and got her so she could ditch me... no no no this is not the time for moping. And so, I suck it in and walk back into the alley where Charlotte and Archibald are still looking down the hole that Jessica escaped in.

"Oh, you're back," Archibald glances at me. "Where'd your friend go?"
"She's... gone," I reply.

Don't let it get you down...

"So what now?" I ask. "Are you going to have your people go down there and search for her?"
"Me and Irene are the only Branch-using members of the Tree of Life active in this city," Archibald replies. "And since she's out of commission until tomorrow, no. There's jack shit that I can do about the Qliphoth bitch right now."
"As expected," Charlotte sighs. "I can try and track her down, but that's sure to take a while..." she turns to me. "And she knows your face, right?"
"Yeah," I nod. "...and the fact that I killed that Leo guy, too."

I know that I promised Allison that I'd come home tonight, but I don't think that I'll be able to for fear of Jessica attacking us there.

"Great," Archibald groans. "And protocol says that I -have- to offer you sanctuary until this shit blows over..."
"What?" Charlotte stares at him. "What makes you think that we'd actually be willing to go with you!?"
"It's an -offer-," he replies. "I'm only offering it because I have to, it's up to you as to whether or not you take it."

So our anti pinkie bitch strategy is for us and Archi to attack and for Char to scout?

Mina could tank for us if she ever becomes motivated enough.

Also of note: Theresa knew what was happening but did jack shit.
>>
>>37388048
You've seen Cecile text. She's not some superhero or a mercenary. She's a teenage girl who's in way over her head.

Mina and Theresa want to be out fighting crime like this, and Charlotte does it for a living, so she's clearly feeling the pressure to contribute. At the same time, the last time she did she ended up killing someone, which she still really hasn't sorted out with emotionally.

Honestly, Mina's expectations of us are WAY too high. Cecile isn't a tactician, and the two of them haven't even done any basic teamwork exercises or strategy planning. It's also partially Mina's fault for rushing in without a plan.

Cecile really sucks at this, and everyone needs to stop expecting her to be perfect, from both an IC and OoC standpoint.

Dont worry Arch, you've still got 30 people in the thread who like your quest. I'm sure those two will come back once we stop making every bad decision and fix our relationships.

>>37388181
This really needs to be said at some point. I think Charlotte could really help us through this if we were a bit more open with her about it.
>>
>>37388317
Yes, because in that case the best option was helping her best friend in any way possible.
>>
>>37388231
We didn't have a chance! Mina just sort of yelled at us for not fixing her mistake, we countered with the fact that we didn't want her to get away, and then the two of them used the counterpoint of 'you should have read our minds and done the tactically optimal thing'.

Charlotte was there. She should have taken charge of the situation, told Cecile to thaw Mina, and pursue by herself.

They're expecting a level of competence equal to theirs, and it just isn't happening. Cecile still wants to help, and I'm sure they want her to help, but she doesn't know what to do a lot of the time.

As Archibald pulls out his phone, Charlotte lets out a loud, exasperated groan.

"Dammit, Cecile..." she mutters, taking my hand in hers. "Like hell I'm going to let you be alone with those Tree of Life people."
"Huh?" I blink a few times.
"If you're going with this guy then I'm coming with you."

I feel just a little bit better now. I thought Charlotte hated me too, but she's actually willing to...

"Great," Archibald grumbles while fiddling with his phone. "Now I gotta tell them that we'll be harboring the daughter of DAVID GAUTHIER, of all people..."

While Charlotte wraps her arm around my shoulders and tries to console me, Archibald gives the angriest, most sarcastic "asking for help" phonecall that I've ever heard. He tells whoever it is at the other end of the line about Jessica escaping into the sewers, the fact that I'M the one who killed Leo... when the black van that he called for finally shows up, I'm half-expecting a million stormtroopers to pour out of it and point guns at me.

But instead, a friendly-looking middle-aged man simply opens up the back and tells us to take a seat.

Mina rushed in by herself against someone with a basically unknown powerset. She deserves at least some fault for that.

Also, the first thing we did in that fight was steal the light from her eyes. That's been our first move in basically every team based fight.

Imagine Cecile in this situation. You use your only meaningful ability outside of death lasers, and then it just doesn't work. Then, your friend gets frozen in a block of ice and the person who did it (who is also a serial killer) runs off. Cartoon logic dictates that people frozen in ice are just fine after being thawed out. Split second decision making is the time a mistake like that would occur.

So now Cecile thinks her friend will be fine and the serial killer who did that to her is getting away. She probably wants to get her, but the last fight she killed someone in was heavily reliant on her sight-stealing. She probably didn't want to kill someone again, and in this situation her previous strategy wouldn't even work well. Thus, she gave control to overshine to waste her, since overshine is stronger than she is, and it would also remove some of the guilt if overshine ended up killing her rather than Cecile.

Cecile's thought process probably wasn't "killing that bitch was more important than saving you." Her thought process was probably "Mina's armor will protect her from that ice, I should chase after her so she can't hurt someone else."

Cecile made a wrong decision. It was 100% in character for that to happen. Why exactly Mina is expecting a high level of competence from Cecile with all of the reasons she shouldn't be is beyond me.

I'm here because I enjoy seeing the effort put into building relationships be hilariously misplaced, and the relationships crumble in futility. It is also amusing to watch every attempt to fix a bad decision result in two more bad decisions.

It's not Grimdark. It's the knowledge that you live in a place where miracles and victories are possible, the world can improve, good things can happen to good people, and there is plentiful hope, but you're just so much of a screwup that it all slips from your reach.

The knowledge that world is ready for, accepting of, and waiting for you to become a hero. But as you reach for your place in the sunlight, all you can do is fall facefirst in the mud. Not because the world hates you. Not because life is hard. But because the world loves you, and life is easy, and you STILL can't handle it.

That is despair.
It is not morally grey people in bad situations of inevitable hurt.
It is good people in good situations of inevitable happiness, which BY YOUR ACTIONS you cause to be thrown away and discarded.

>Why exactly Mina is expecting a high level of competence from Cecile with all of the reasons she shouldn't be is beyond me.
"Shit, my best friend is frozen in a block of ice and the one who did this is getting away, I'll just asume my friend's going to be all right so I can hunt down the one who did this." is not normal logic and Mina is well in her rights to be mad at CC for doing that.

People seem to be way over reacting, it's one bad thing that happened.
Plus it ends up being a pretty great opportunity for some character growth on CCs part
>>
>>37388519
> I'll just asume my friend's going to be all right so I can hunt down the one who did this." is not normal logic

Of course it isn't normal logic. It's the panicked logic of a teenage girl finding herself in a combat situation and not thinking clearly. People on TV and in Movies get completely frozen all the time and are fine. Mina has a magic invulnerable suit of armor.

Factor in all of that and it's an understandable reaction. If anything, Mina should be mad at Charlotte for not calming Cecile down and having her do something rational.

We've already established that Cecile wasn't acting logically. The problem is that people were wrongly expecting her to.

Yeah, she has sort of been roped into this by all of her friends trying to do so and dating someone who has this as their job.

She clearly wants to help them and protect them, but outside of stealing light from people's eyes and murdering with death lasers, Cecile doesn't really know how. We aren't functioning well as part of a group, and that's what we need to fix if we continue.

That said, I'd be perfectly fine with not continuing. We can just elope with Charlotte to wherever and do what we please.

>>

I was going to recommend that actually, but I'm not sure how well Cecile would cope with her going out and risking her life on a daily basis.

While I suppose it isn't much different from other couples with a member in a high risk job, I feel like the fact that she can shoot death lasers might make her a bit more hesitant to just sit on the sidelines.

But again, this is all stuff we really need to talk about with people.

In fact, a lot of the big problems and questions we have could be solved by sitting down and actually voicing some concerns and asking what other people think.

"I'm so sorry..." I cry. "All because of how stupid I was, you hurt your hands and Mina ran off and I just -know- she hates me!"

Saying that out loud just makes it hurt even more. Mina's been my best friend for as long as I can remember and even though we've gotten into fights before I've never seen her this mad at me.

"No she doesn't," Charlotte says. "She's just angry, that's all. You just need to work things out and explain yourself and I'm sure she'll understand."
"But that doesn't change what happened!"

I don't even know what the hell I'm supposed to do anymore!

"No, it doesn't," Charlotte replies. "But everyone makes mistakes, and you have even more trouble with that than most other people do thanks to that alternate personality."
"But I let it take control on purpose, and-"
"And you need to NEVER do that again, okay?" Charlotte says. "I know you might think it's easier to just let that thing go to town on everything that puts you and your loved ons in danger, but I've been down that road and it's not something that you want to do."

Maybe she's right...

After the van pulls into what looks like a garage, Archibald hops out of the van and opens the door to the back where me and Charlotte are sitting.

"Alright, everyone out," he says with a disinterested look on his face. " have important stuff to do so let's get this over with sooner rather than later."
"Okay..." I mumble as I step out of the van.
"Some hospitality," Charlotte says to herself as she cuts everyone within eyeshot aside from me the most evil glare that I've ever seen from her.

From there, we follow Archibald out of the garage and into a large building connected to what looks like a large cathedral. I don't see too many people walking around inside, though there is a pretty large guy sitting at a desk by the front entrance.

"These are the girls I was telling you about," Archibald says to the man. "This chick right here," he points at me, "is the one who killed Leonardo Riselli and confronted Jessica Monell on her own earlier today."
"Impressive," the guy says, nodding to himself.
"And this one with the blonde hair is Charlotte Gauthier," Archibald says. "David Gauthier's daughter."
"...I see," he says as his expression darkens. "I take it that you're a Branch holder as well?"
"That's right," Charlotte replies.
"Would you mind telling us its name?" he asks.
"I would, actually," she replies curtly.

After letting out a long, exasperated sigh, the man turns back to me.

"And what about you?" he asks. "What's your Branch?"

"Sorry," I mumble, "I don't feel comfortable giving up that information."

"Well in any event, they're being targeted by the serialkiller that we're supposed to be taking care of so it's our duty to offer them sanctuary," the man says.

Oh, he's wearing a priest's collar. I guess that makes sense, considering where we are.

"That's why we're here," Charlotte says, still sounding kind of antagonistic. "And Cecile's exhausted from fighting that woman, so..."
"Yes, we've prepared a room for you," the man sighs. "Right next to the one that Archibald is using, so he'll be able to intervene in case that woman is stupid enough to attack here."

That's not all that reassuring...

"Wait, you're giving them the room next door to my-" Archibald cuts himself off and takes a deep breath. "...of course you would..."
"That's right," he nods. "Now if you'd like to show these ladies there...?"
"Yeah, yeah..."

Mumbling something that I'm pretty sure is profane under his breath, Archibald starts down the hall and motions for us to follow him.

"...thanks," I mumble.
"What?" Archibald glances back at me while we walk up a flight of stairs.
"Thanks," I repeat myself. "I know you probably hate me but I do appreciate this."
"...whatever," he says, rolling his eyes. "I can't let personal feelings get in the way of my duty, that's all. Just think of this as payback for getting that psychotic bitch away from Irene."

He must really care about her.

"Umm, do you know if she's going to be alright?" I ask. "That stab wound looked horrible..."
"It sure as hell did," Archibald says, clenching his fist. "And then she..." it starts trembling.
"D- did she-"
"She'll be fine come the morning," Archibald mumbles. "And then we can go and kill that bitch and get back to what we came to this city for."

"Alright," Archibald sighs. "This is Irene's room right here," he says, tapping on a door, "this is mine," he taps on the door next to it, "and over here is where I guess you two'll be staying for the night."
"Thanks," I nod.
"Until Irene gets back, the three of us will be the only Branch holders in the building so be careful about assuming stuff," he warns us. "If you need something to eat then just ask for it and it'll be provided for you... and I'm gonna ask you to show some respect for the house of the Lord while I'm at it."
"Huh?"
"You two are sharing a room because that's how they decided to do things," he sighs, "but you're a couple, right?"
"What of it?" Charlotte snaps back. "Do you have something against l-"
"I don't give a damn," he cuts her off. "Irene's into girls too and she has enough respect not to fool around in places that're owned by the Church so I expect the same from you. Got it?"
"...yeah," I nod.

I'm really not in the mood to fool around, anyways.

"Great," Archibald says as he turns around and starts back down the hall. "I need to take care of some3thing important so I'll be seeing you later."

I am of two minds regarding the mess CC finds herself in.

On the plus side, it shows that despite her super powers, CC is still human and capable of making terrible mistakes that come back to bite her ass and cause SUFFERING.

It however leaves me vaguely disturbed that this is not a result of a carefully written plot but a vote so autistic that it completely disregards the situation.
>>
>>37391728
Yeah can we all agree no more overshine [Remove] mode? Cecile can do it herself and letting overshine get any stronger would be bad for everyone.
>>
>>37391739
Definitely, but it's a great turning point for CC, to really see what letting it have power does.
>>
>>37391758
Honestly CC has been a lot more thoughtful with her powers than Overshine has been.

Overshine tries to just overpower and overwhelm it's opponent and only uses tactics if that fails CC when she fights thinks ahead.
>>
>>37391739
I think we have plenty of evidence saying that letting Over-chan take over is a terrible idea. It is a murderous psychopath solely interested in personal survival, willing to push anyone into the ditch towards that goal.
>>
>>37391739
Sure, right now we'll all say we're never letting Overshine take control, but just you watch we'll do it again. Because anon just can't resist pushing the REMOVE button.
>>
>>37391783
True, but how much you want to bet remove will get at least 33% of the vote next time combat comes up?
>>
>>37391829
Thing is every time we push it things get worse. It give no advantage to us, fucks up our relationships and is a worse fighter than we are. Worse every time we press it is a possible game over. Anons who press it are retards. Saying this I realize next combat quest is over.

>>
>>37391854
Yeah, we'll be as fucked over as Charlotte is.. oh wait, she's fine.
>>
>>37392814
Because she didn't give in to her voice we keep feeding overshine it'll win then bad end, what part of that don't you get? In the mean time we keep letting it take control it will fuck over our friends. We have literally every incentive to not let it take control ever.
>>
>all this backpedaling to justify CC's fuck ups
I get the in-universe explanation that Cecile isn't particularly experienced in high pressure situations, but it comes across as some people wanting a one-size-fits-all excuse to make terrible decisions and get away without the consequences for them.
If FDQ was a TV show, CC's fuck ups would be the bottom of the barrel moment where she decides to buck up her ideas and stop being such a liability. There's a narrative arc for her to go through. In a quest where her decisions are the result of the choices the players make, she might still have those excuses but us sat at out computers sure as hell don't.
Bad choices are bad choices, there's no point dwelling in the past but let's not stew in the insecurities of CC's lack of prowess. It's better to press on and ensure we correct CC's failings, rather than hide behind them whenever something goes awry.
>>
>>37392988
I'm with you anon but for the most part i think anons will vote remove just to see the spaghetti until overshine gets strong enough to crush us.
>>
>>37392988
You want an excuse for the playerbase? Every time we meet a bad guy the same pattern repeats: We or our allies kick their ass, then shit happens and they escape intact (or ready to regenerate later), waiting to come back readier and angrier.

I don't approve of the REMOVE trigger but it's not hard to see why we would want to take care of the bad guys as soon as possible.
>>
>>37393043
Narratively speaking, CC's relationship with Over-chan will only get worse before it gets better.
She's got to hit that real low point where it's just her and that evil voice inside her head, and then she triumphantly overcomes it.
>>
>>37393076
Also worth noting that as bad as CC took frying chucklehead, it's understandable that she would be inclined to let her darker side take over to do it. Taking life, even if it is essential to your or your loved one's survival, is never an easy thing and Overshine offers her an easy route out of that feeling.
>>
>>37393076
Removing is fine but CC can do it just as well as overchan, indeed she beat portal boy much easier than overchan beat ice bitch. We get no advantage for using remove, and overshine fucks up our relationships which makes us weaker and gets stronger every time we do so. We keep doing the trigger it will eat us because it sees us as lesser than it.

>>37393128
Overshine has freaked out our friends repeatedly and anything it can do we can do with about the same proficiency without going full murderhobo. Every time we let it take control it gets stronger. It will try to subdue us so it can get full control because it sees us as a weed and lesser than it is. We keep giving it power we will get bad ended. We really do not need to give it a bigger advantage.
>>
>>37393206
>It will try to subdue us so it can get full control because it sees us as a weed and lesser than it is.
Weed and Vine are just terms it uses for natural and artificially gifted Branch users, which is appropriate considering that "gardener" is the official term for the power to grant branches. What's reality interesting is how Overshine happens to know the actual descriptor titles for the branches we meet.
>>
>>37391964
/tg/ is too autistic and arch should have put the bumpers up after the 50th consecutive gutter ball.
>>
>>37393319
Still it has made it apparent we are beneath it, we keep giving it power by letting it take control we will end up bad ended.
>>
>>37393206
>We really do not need to give it a bigger advantage.
I agree but there's no accounting for circumstances. It might not be by her own volition or even her own actions at all but if overshine has any agency, it will presumably be actively seeking to isolate Cecile from those around her, making her more vulnerable and easier to take control of. If that is Overchan's aim, he's doing a pretty decent job.
We may be forced to choose between Charlotte and the Tree of Life and by extension, Irene, that's another ally down. Charlotte herself could be on borrowed time in the City and has responsibilities to protect Gabrielle as well as us. Allison is utterly defenceless in the face of any sort of attack. There are still plenty more opportunities for Cecile to lose more than she already has and in terms of straight-forward storytelling, I'd have to assume for the time being that that's the direction we're heading in.
Overshine is almost literally Cecile's inner-demon, she has to overcome him by herself, nobody else can really rid her of him. It's not a case of something she'd prefer not to do by herself, it's something she has to do by herself.
Now obviously, this is a quest and the direction can't be too hardwired but I'd caution against believing that Overshine's strength and influence over CC is removed simply because she recognizes it's a bad idea to give into him. There's still plenty of scope for things to get worse before they improve.
>>
>>37393363
Telling Charlotte about the book BEFORE talking it over with Theresa shouldn't have even been an option and now the quest is suffering for it in more ways then one.
>>
>>37393384
True enough i was just making a case to not hand him/her/it the keys to the cc mobile with every fight. Odds are he's going to be a bitch to deal with without giving him all the power, we give him the power we will get bad ended.

I don't think you understand this IS my perfect route I voted for the majority of the decisions that led us here. (I was sleeping for the book vote).

We are exactly where I want us and the fact that a large enough group of fa/tg/uys intentionally voted for this, and even defend their mistakes after being shown the aftermath, well that is just icing on the cake.
>>
>>37393770
But we were already giving him Mina's weren't we?
Lowfyr may fuck people over, but he's trying to keep the bugs out.

I trust Theresa to do what she think is the right thing, but don't trust her to not fuck up.
And the Kaitou collection reason she gave was really weak.
I might had sided with her if she gave some other reason.
>>
>>37393770
>For one the worst possible scenario with Theresa's book is to give it to Mr.G who has the resources to do real damage with it, the scale of which is several magnitudes worse then the worst possible scenario if it stays in Theresa's hands.

I see that argument and it's fairly reasonable but it sounds like saying gangs shouldn't turn over their weapons to the government because the government can potentially do more harm with them than gangs can. If Gauthier wanted to do harm, he's already got the means to do so and while handing the book over to a more trusted, official disposal team might be preferable, one doesn't exist and Gauthier is the closest thing we know to being an authority on Branch related matters other than the Tree of Life.
On the second part of that, about the harm Therea could do, while I think that leaving her with something that powerful would have been wholly irresponsible, the larger part of my concern towards her is actually the damage which could have been done to her rather than any damage she would have done. We know there are violent people out there looking for the books and putting distance between her and the book goes a long way towards making her and her Mom and Mina and everyone safer.
>>
>>37393849
>her Mom
That. That right there is one big reason she should give up the book. If people find out she has a book, it won't just be her in danger. If they find out where she lives her mom is in just as much danger, except her mom has no way of defending herself from branch users.
>>
>>37393849
1. Theresa isn't a gangster.

2. Scarcity seems to apply to these books a lot more then firearms, where I could have my pick of gun stores just walk in and buy one.

3. Theresa is responsible for her own decisions. You are not her nanny.

>>37393923
>If people find out she has a book,
4. Guess what, we only increased the number of people who know, by your own reasoning you endangered her mother.

5. Theresa STILL has the book. The only thing you changed was that you increased the odds of shit hitting the fan.
>>
Let's not forget that half the reason Theresa threw a tantrum was because of her biases due to losing the CC bowl.

If Mina had told her to give up the Book to the Tree of Life, it wouldn't have been nearly as bad but because it was CECILE telling her to give the book to THAT BITCH, it was clearly the worst thing of all time ever.

>>
>>37393988
>1. Theresa isn't a gangster.
No, but by your own admission, there was potential for her causing harm to both herself and others.

>2. Scarcity seems to apply to these books a lot more then firearms, where I could have my pick of gun stores just walk in and buy one.
And that means Theresa should keep her book why, exactly?

>3. Theresa is responsible for her own decisions. You are not her nanny.
That's a terrible excuse to shirk responsibility towards a friend. Do you apply the same "not my prob" logic to Mina getting herself frozen? She's responsible for what she gets herself into, isn't she?

>Oh and Gauthier isn't the government.
Which I noted and pointed out was somewhat lamentable but there is no government alternative.
>>
>>37394102
Sure, she wanted to keep the book for her own reasons and she doesn't exactly trust the people involved. But it wouldn't have been quite as big an issue is it wasn't CC and Char specifically.
>>
>>37394105
>but by your own admission, there was potential for her causing harm to both herself and others.

Several orders of magnitude lower, but yes, there is no perfectly safe answer.

>And that means Theresa should keep her book why, exactly?

Keep Gauthier from gaining it.

>shirk responsibility towards a friend

My friends own bleach and several chemicals that could be used to create a weapon. Is it my responsibility to stop this? The answer is the same for if I am responsible for people getting a heart attack from eating at burger king or cancer from smoking. However I have no right to go out and cause and actual health risk to my friends.
>>
>>37394170
And I was just saying that the ACTUAL RISK OF DEATH was a bigger deal, then not getting laid.

There is also the betrayal of trust part as well, which would still be a big deal with Theresa wasn't romantically interested in CC and just saw her as a friend.
>>
>>37394105
I would say it is not solely her own responsibility because a fuck up with the book will affect a lot more uninvolved people. It's like an illegal fireworks factory, when it burns down a couple of blocks go down with it.
>>
>>37393672
>are you just going to keep threatening to take your toys home like a pouting child?
This is closer to, I sprained my ankle, playing basketball is no longer fun for me, you guys have fun, I am going to go home and read a book or something.
>>
>>37394175
>Keep Gauthier from gaining it.
I'll take the guy with the proven track record of safely handling these objects and who is a close relative to somebody we're involved with and has more than adequate security to look after himself and the book over the teenage girl who's as knew to this stuff as we are and who, with all the best intentions, by CC's own admission has been acting irresponsibly with her powers.

>Is it my responsibility to stop this?
If there are a bunch of murderers in town trying to get to those specific bottles of bleach and chemicals in your friends house, then yes, it's a good idea for you to get those bottles out of there.
>>
>>37394289
>the proven track record of safely handling these objects

Covertly handling them is not safely handling them.

>If there are a bunch of murderers in town trying to get to those specific bottles of bleach and chemicals in your friends house

Then I probably shouldn't advertise the fact that you could get those bottles by killing my friend who they had no idea about her having the bottles, and then LEAVING THOSE BOTTLERS THERE ANYWAY!

I could see making the decision at the time given the information we had at the time, but it boggles my mind that people still think it was a good idea now that we know it wasn't.
>>
>>37394333
>BOTTLERS

Archelon, That last FD thread, don't be depressed! The very fact that you made the hard hearted /tg/ feel all those feels they likely had not felt for so long is a master stroke. Be proud of your self! You made CC turn out to be a human and not a mary sue.
I just wish they'd stop voting for her to be such a -stupid- human. There's a difference between character flaws and willful stupidity.

From the ask.fm
>>
>>37394333
>Covertly handling them is not safely handling them.
Seems to be in this case.

>they had no idea about her having the bottles
Don't you think leaving loose books around with no practical purpose won't come back to bite us all in the ass sooner or later though?
Theresa is going around actively intimidating these people. It's a ticking time bomb before one of them finds out about it.

>and then LEAVING THOSE BOTTLERS THERE ANYWAY!
In that event, the fuck up isn't that we tried, it's that we didn't succeed.

>it boggles my mind that people still think it was a good idea now that we know it wasn't.
Giving the book to Gauthier was a good idea.
>>
I think the recent events shoulb be a very good reason for Archelon to give players less agency. I mean, to this date, he's been letting us run nilly-willy and went with majority votes even when they shit all over CC. I think CC needs to go down the path where she will simply refuse to do some things because she doesn't think they are a good idea. For example, totally refusing any [Remove] no matter how much it would be spammed as a write-in.

(A quest where I think players have less agency than here would be both Larro's latest and HQR before that, where the characters even talk back about silly suggestions or things they would not do. I think the reason he doesn't run with voting at all is to pick the best ideas that come up and not be shackled by autistic majority votes.)
>>
>>37394603
Arch already rules out votes that are OOC.
Bad decisions are part and parcel of questing, if you don't want the playerbase to have any risk, Arch might as well just be writing a book.
>>
>>37394603
Less out of character decisions would be nice.
>>
>>37394175
If the Big-G is such a terrible option to trust Theresa's book with, then why the fuck did we give Mina's book to him? That's a totally inconsistent way of approaching the situation.
>>
>>37394533
>In that event, the fuck up isn't that we tried, it's that we didn't succeed.
I wouldn't go that far. But there are multiple ways Theresa hiding the book could come bite us in the ass and Charlotte can react quicker, or connect the dots quicker if she has access to private information about, say, new Branch holders popping up in town.

I'll admit in hindsight that these risks weren't worth the whole debacle but I was very pessimistic about what could happen with that book. I still am, to a degree. It's a shitstorm waiting to happen the moment archelon decides to use it to move the plot along.
>>
>>37394333
For now only our circle and Gauthier know about her copy, and it's in Gauthier's best interest to try to keep Theresa friendly, especially after her little business filming adventures.
