Starting the quest, and hopefully getting things done today.

Will be busy but didn't want to leave everyone hanging.

Here's the Straw Poll for further quest ideas.
http://strawpoll.me/3403264

I will answer questions about said quest ideas for those who want more detail.
>>
>>37374810

"Logan," Aeson's voice comes in over the com, and you turn away with an "excuse me" to Lyna and put your hand go your ear.

"I'm here," you respond.

"Aleena's running for it, but I think she's being chased," your turian friend says, sounding like he's moving as he talks. "I heard shots from her room, and dropped an Eclipse merc who was in it when I came in! Still hearing shots, sounds like from the VIP area!"

"Shit!" you mutter, turning towards miss Parker with an "I gotta go, sorry, here's my new number!" and running off!

"What do you want us to do?"

>WDYS?

>"Stay on Aleena, we NEED her info! I'll cut them off from the other side!"

>"Hold position, I'll be there soon!"
>>
Super glad your only running this as a one shot and not in any way unceremoniously abandoning wulin quest
>>
>>37374914
>Stay on Aleena

No time to regroup, must protect our lead.
>>
>>37374976
Yeah, I'm actually not happy where I left it off either actually.

It pisses me off that I didn't think ahead and plan out more potential routes of what was supposed to happen next, but I seriously didn't expect everyone playing to get so far past how I originally assumed it was going to go.

I suppose I COULD focus entirely on writing up WHQ next, but if I do so you won't be hearing from me for some time; there's only so many hours in the day I can work on it and I have bills to pay and job responsibilities as well.

I do apologize, but I'm only human.

"Stick with her!" you say, bolting up out of your chair and grabbing your M-11 pistol from side holster, the weapon unfolding to it's full size in your hand. "Take down anyone trying to scrag her , and for fuck's sake don't hit anyone in the club! I'll cut them off from the opposite side!"

On a random note, it's sort of humorous to me that the M-11 heavy pistol has a suppressor attached to it in ME3, since according to the weapon physics descriptions it wouldn't do a damn thing to dampen the sound of a shot fired at all.

You mentally swear as you push past the crowd. You aren't wearing your full armor (it's damn hard to get any questions out of anyone visibly wearing weapons and armor), just a uniform made of ballistic-resistant carbon nanotube fibers.

While you can natutally project biotic barriers using your powers, the uniform you're wearing is tough but not nearly as reassuring as a full combat hardsuit is, and anyone with modded rounds can punch right through it like it's not even there.

You concenttate and a brief transparent flash of dark energy surrounds you and becomes invisible as you bring up your barriers.

"Status! Keep talking to me!" you say into your comm.

"Moving up Sir!" Reegar responds. "We're following gunfire, meeting no resistance! We've got wounded civilians everywhere, no idea if it's Aleena or Eclipse killing them!"

"Dammit...keep moving ahead, we can't help them but we CAN catch the guys doing it!"

"But Sir-" Reegar begins, and you're forced to cut him off.

"We don't have enough medigel to go around doing everything and none of us have medical training! I'll send a message to Professor Solus, he can help but our priority is to KEEP ALEENA ALIVE!"

You're suddenly forces to duck behind a parked car as you come under fire as you exit Omega!

"Fuck!"

>WDYD?

>Charge!

>Utilize cover and return fire with biotics and your pistol!

>Look for a break and escape, you can't afford to waste time here!
>>

You left out a very important option on your poll: continue with Wulin Hero Quest.

Please. Pretty please.

>>37375061
That's cool. Just make it up as you go along and see where it goes. Just think of it as an alternative universe story to your original idea.
>>
>>37375936
>>Charge!
We are a vanguard. Something is moving. Therefore, we charge.
>>
>>37375936
>Charge!
>>
>>37376086
I prefer to do things well I suppose, and while I can make stuff up as I go it's never as good and often rushed or incomplete-feeling.

People seemed to very much enjoy WHQ, and I don't want to churn out a crappy product so to speak because I wasn't careful and didn't care about it's quality. I'm not Ubisoft or Activision or EA Games caring more about turning out a thing before the end of the quarterly then the quality of the thing itself; I want to do it WELL.

Ironically if I'd gotten less of a full positive response for WHQ and it ended up being a short thing that nobody paid attention to as I originally assumed it would be I might be less inclined to take my time and do it well.

I'll probably alternate between whatwver chosen quest the poll gives and at least doing a proper ending to the first arc of WHQ, because I am personally really unsatisfied with where I had to leave off.
Hopefully then my work situation will stabilize and I can alternate and fix a decent schedule without burning myself out.

MEQ was always intended to be a short quest and honestly if worked hasn't drafted me recently we'd already be done with it most likely.
>>
>>37376223
soo your just a perfectionist then.
>>
>>37376275
No, because I don't presume anything I do will ever be actually perfect.
But I also know my limitations, and between taking an option that makes my writing shit and one that makes my writing palatable, I choose palatable.

I mean, of WHQ was a shitty quest would any of you actually care about it's hiatus in the first place?
>>
>>37375936
>Charge!
No one expects someone to smash into them at the speed of sound. Even if the actual kinetic energy involved isn't too high due to lowered mass. It's still a great opener.
>>
>>37376320
We have faith in you. I know I do at least. Just do what you feel is right.
>>
>>37375936

You wait for them to move up (three of them, hardsuit sand assault rifles) to keep you suppressed and then rise out of cover and leap into a Biotic Charge, smashing the one closest to you back into another of the three from the sheer impact force!

Not content to leave it at that, you jump into the air with a war cry and drop your left fist into the ground as it flares with dark energy, sending a Nova shockwave knocking back the Eclipse mercs even MORE but removing your barriers!

You bring up your pistol and begin firing the heavy-caliber rounds into your downed foes, planting two into the torso plates of the first two to ensure they're still shocked, before placing accurate headshots into their helmets as they try to recover!

The last manages to clip a single round off from his rifle which slams agonizingly into your shoulder, making you cry out in pain before finally dropping him as well!

"Shit!" you mutter as you keep moving checking your injury. The rifle round didn't penetrate your uniform (you likely wouldn't be able to move your arm at ALL if it did) thanks to the carbon nanotube reinforcement but holy SHIT is that gonna leave a nasty bruise.

You activate your omnitool and apply medigel to your shoulder to dull the pain and keep moving!
>>
>>37376718
liiiiiivee
>>
Apologies, still working.
>>
>>37377593

Don't worry about it.
>>
>>37376718

You keep moving, your shields recharging as the numbing effect of the medigel keeps you functional.

"Talk to me, where are you?"

"Occupied Sir!" Reegar says, and you hear gunfire from his end of the line. "Markets outside the VIP section of Afterlife, we're pinned by Eclipse mercs with mech support! Aleena's still ahead, we think she's locked down too! Where are you?"

"Dammit! I'm on the other side of the habitat block from you! I'm making my way there on foot, but Eclipse is sending mercs to stall me!"

Aeson speaks next.
"No worries, it's not like we're being shot at or anything," he says dryly.

"Just keep it together, I gotta find a way there!" you say, trying to push your way through the crowds.

This is taking WAY too long, there's gotta be a way to shorten your transit time!

>WDYD?

>Use the maintences access tunnels to literally cut UNDER the crowds and past the habitat blocks. Problem is they don't always have AIR them, and you never know which might just be filled with vaccume.....

Also for the strawpoll.
I think Monster Hunter with it's episodic content is the only idea that wouldn't fall into the same trap this quest did.
>>
>>37378268
To be fair; this quest was always designed to be temporary, not long-term.
That's one of the reasons I avoided using the Roopers; they aren't really suited to shorter, less epic scale stories thanks to the scale they operate on.
>>
>>37378303
Well that's what I mean, you meant for a shorter quest but you were writing it like a campaign. Hell it seems like you just introduced a major character in Lyna but, the quest is about to end.

There are also questions like:
>What was reaper goo doing on that vessel?
>Why is Lyna with Cerberus?
>What did Eclipse want with that colony (though this one is probably about to be answered)
>If this is a AU without Shepard what else have you changed? (I mean why even change it if it doesn't become relevant in the first place?)

You are setting up a cool setting with character for peeps to get invested in, but since this'll end probably when we get off Omega there is no payoff ya know?

Hindsight is 20/20 but I feel what you should have done is taken that hostage situation and stretched it out for about 3 or so threads and make that your oneshot. That way you get your scifi fix and you have a solid enclosed story that you could come back to if we liked it with another oneshot.

tl;dr Make scenarios instead of campaigns.

>>

I would, if only because its settting is terribly underused in quests. I mean, if you don't like a ME quest, there's like 9001 other ME quests you can view on Spacebattles or Sufficientvelocity or whatever.

Hell, there's less Wuxia quests there there are Three Kingdoms Quests, unless you're counting stuff loosely related like l5r or exalted, and even both of those settings combined are tiny compared to ME quests,
>>
>>37378144

You flag down a cab at a nearby console without stopping running, and hop inside the cabin as it opens up, flooring the gas as hard as you can.

"I'm on my way, appropriated transport!" you say as you begin to ignore every single traffic law there is. When you car flies lanes are just a suggestion anyway, right?

"Wait, what?" Aeson says, sounding more alarmed then when he said they were being shot at.

"A cab," you clarify as you cut between a pair of buildings by rolling the car, thinking that they were unnecessarily close together.

"Jack, you KNOW I hate it when you drive!"

"Which is why I'm not doing it with you in the car. Besides, I'm not THAT bad a driver," you protest as you go against the traffic flow and a car goes howling past you.

"You drive like you Biotic Charge Jack!"

"You're exaggerating," you calmly claim frown as the cab's automatic fare meter keeps telling you that "breaking road laws will result in a fine from JonnyCab(tm) for abusing corporate property".

You activate your biotics and rip the annoying fare meter off the dashboard and dump it out the window.

"Jack, seriously, maybe find another way to get here, there's no place for you to even park it!" Aeson says, realizing you're in fact already on your way.

"I'll find a spot. Look, I gotta go, driving without both hands on the wheel is unsafe," you point out absently as you begin to hang up.

"Don't hang up don't hang up DON'T-" he says as you cut the line off.

Superficially yes, though Shepard's personality is malleable (besides some constants like being a slightly boring person outside of saving everything and also being a shitty dancer) and Lyna and Miranda have very different personalities.
>>37381731
I didn't mind it.
Honestly, though the storyline plotting of ME3 was sketchy, the actual writing of dialogue and character stuff was as good as it had ever been, which is one of the reasons the ending was so frustrating I believe. EDI's development as a "person" outside of the Normandy and her awkward romance with Joker is part of this.

Logan's hung up on her for a reason, obviously!

God there is a video by mrbtounge about what exactly went wrong with ME3 short version is an abandonment of genre, character focus and central conflict led to a narrative dissonance. Suffice to say that werewolves are not "wolves" at all, and that most of the monsters in this universe work rather differently then they do in movies.

I try to keep it as close to older versions of stories as possible, which notably makes many monsters MUCH easier to kill then in movies and such.

The Witchhunter Verse takes a sort of middle ground between reality and fantasy; magic exists, but history is largely unchanged but for small details as the overwhelming crush of the human race and it's increasingly advanced technology has rendered most monsters dead or endangered, with only the "least harmful" ones left alive.

Basically I sort of take how many old stories work and then take into account the centuries of advancement the human race has achieved since these stories were created.
>>
>>37394903
The reason it's "SVU with monsters" isn't because it's about detectives; but because there is an actual legal framework invented in this setting involving hunting and killing Monsterous beings and humans with magic, akin to bounty hunting.

The lead isn't even a cop, because supernatural threats aren't really common enough to warrant dedicated police units dealing with them; rather they hired specialized security companies or individuals with experience in less organized regions.

Like I said; there's a LOT of detail in the setting, and making early assumptions probably won't help you nearly as much as you think.

"Urban Fantasy" is a very overused genre, so I had to put a great deal of thought and work into the setting itself to divorce it from the many (and admittedly crappy) versions of it there already are.
>>
>>37399895
>>37399984
So we won't need to bother with silver?
Darn. The /k/ in me loved that little detail with "silver is too light, and doesn't engage the lands and grooves for shit, so we stuck a silver ball in the nose of a hollowpoint instead, and it works pretty good".
>>
>>37400073
It's a rule in this universe that nearly anything that's alive and moving can be destroyed through bodily destruction or enough brain damage, so "shoot them in the head" or "shotgun to the limbs" is wonderfully effective.

Do you know how they killed Dracula in the Bram Stoker novel?
They slit his throat and stabbed him in the chest with a knife. Just a regular knife. Nothing special about it.

And don't worry; your inner /k/ will be satisfied. Since most security professionals are some kind of ex-military, the same goes true for PSC's of all kinds (Paranormal Security Contractors).
