You are Shee Hyul, rebel and psychic. Your world is ruled by inhuman creatures and this has gone on far too long, it’s time to fight back.

You get into the police car with Sergeant Sara Yonsul, her partner Zasky and your friend, Rainya.

“Ye look lahk sheet gurl” says Zasky observantly.

“I had a rough night” you say as you get in the car.

“Just drive” says Sergeant Yonsul to Zasky, he laughs and the car pulls away.

You are silent as you drive but Rainya pipes up “What’s going on?” Neither Sergeant Yonsul or Zasky answer and after a few more tries she falls silent too.

Zasky drives to an abandoned building in a lower level of the Hive and Sergeant Yonsul gets out and opens your door, you get out to follow but as Rainya starts to get out, Zasky says “Nah girl, let them have their moment, say, d’you like guns? I know all sorts of-” Whatever he’s about to say is cut off as Sergeant Yonsul closes the car door. You follow her into the building and she asks “Well? What happened?”

So, how are we going to convince Yonsul to let us give it another shot?
We'd have to convince her mindreading isn't a issue, do we pretend we can do something about that?
>>
Why does Kae like Quinn so much?

I mean, seriously what? We protected her from the Police, took her out dancing and all of that shit, and protected her from thugs.

Then she turns around and chokes us because we said "Quinn a shit"?
>>
>>37286830
We don't. It's over as far as I'm concerned.

>>37286858

>>
>>37286875
>it's because we struck first
But.... Like, wasn't it made clear that Quinn was an asshole when he tried to grab us when Kae was around already?

Not to mention, doesn't she trust us at least a bit by this point? Seems a little weird she shifted so suddenly
>>
>>37286858
>Why does Kae like Quinn so much?
I think the issue is more our use of "demonic magic", however she knows and identifies that despite never having seen it before, but its apparently the problem.
Why she insisted so much on keeping him around the first time? I imagine Quinn can be pretty charming. And she isn't very smart, in case that wasn't obvious from the first meeting.

>>37286875
>Do we want another shot?
Quitting now would be awful to me. I hate it when quests drop a subplot just because they can't be assed to invest a little more effort.

And keeping good with Kae and Yonsul is definitly worth some effort, in terms of use they have to us.
>>
>>37286907
She's fae, capricious in nature and changeable in ways. What is abhorrent one minute may be sublime the next, etc.

>>37286924

>>
>>37286907
>wasn't it made clear that Quinn was an asshole when he tried to grab us when Kae was around already?
I think you overestimate how much of a shit Kae gives about "good" and "bad" people. Fun seems more important to her.
We simply mwill have to live with her being a bit of a hypocritical cunt. Not every useful person can have a great personality, I suppose.
>>
>>37286985
Yes. And on a scale of 1 to Fun, we seemed to be giving her more fun than Quinn ever did unless he fucked her or something
>>
>>37287013
I guess she figured, Fun person + fun person = 2xFun.
From her perspective there is no reason for people to not get along to provide her with entertainment, and when we refused to associate with someone who assaulted us, we were the unreasonable one to her.
>>
>>37286907
if you mean when he tried to bite us? she left or didn't care, I don't remember. if you mean just last thread, he seemed like he just wanted to talk and then we hit him with hell magic.
>>
>>37286985
You're making a whole lot of assumptions.
>>
Also does anyone else think that pally might have been foreshadowing that Kea might not be "evil fey" when she looked away during the hanging?
>>
>>37287057
No, he means when he attacked us the other night, Kae was still around for that, and only fled when the police arrived.
So she still saw him attacking us. Which makes it kinda weird how she still hung out with him and acted as if she didn't know about that despite having been there.
But, fae, you know.
>>
>>37287095
No shit Sherlock.
Yes that seems kinda obvious.
Which is what makes her being so callous about Quinns attack on us look so strange.
Its kinda schizophrenic.
On one hand, she seems to disapprove of the power-abuse of vampire and fae, and one the other hand she sees a vampire abusing his power, and then goes buddy with him and doesn't get why we wouldn't like him.
>>
>>37287097
He probably didn't brick his diplomacy roll for convincing her he wasn't actually a bad guy. She's pretty naive.
>>
>>37287095
It's not foreshadowing when it's that fucking obvious you retard. I'm guessing you voted to horrify Quinn too.
>>
>>37287095
She might have found the executions distasteful. I'm not sure she has any real sympathy for the rebels though.
>>
>>37287127
Yes, we said as much. Still weird she didn't consider that as a reason for us disliking him at all, until we told her.
You'd think she would have at least brought it up when she met him.
But yes, I have no doubt Quinn charmed her in those two hours enough to make us look bad by comparison.

>>37287132
He magic seeins ability wasn't foreshadowed though, not sure what that comparison is supposed to mean, I voted for talking, but if anything, her inability to sense her OWN magic going wild, kinda spoke against that possibility.
>>
“We went to meet Kae” you start “But Quinn was already with her.”

“Quinn...the vampire who attacked you” says the Sergeant. Why do you think she almost said something else after *Quinn*?

“Yeah” you say “Him.” That bastard you add silently.

“And” prompts Sergeant Yonsul, quietly.

“And he’d been with her for a few hours” you say “Guess he can control his asshole self when he wants to” you fold your arms and lean against the wall “I freaked out a little” you say “I told Kae that Quinn was bad news, Quinn said he wanted to talk alone, said he could *convince* me to settle our differences, perfect chance for him to use his powers to make me do whatever he wanted.”

Ash never used his powers on you, but you saw other vampires do it to people...

“What happened next?” asks the Sergeant.

“I struck first.” You say “before he could get me.”

“You hit him?” she asks, giving you a look that’s hard to decipher

“No, I...” you pause “I have a champion power that I can use to scare people, it’s not reliable and sometimes it kinda activates when I’m scared, or angry, I hit Quinn with it.”

“And then he attacked you?” asks the Sergeant “I mean, you look pretty beat up.”

“No” you say “Kae got angry that I attacked Quinn and threw me around. My friend” you nod at Rainya in the car “got me out.”

Sergeant Yonsul is quiet for a while and then says “I’m glad you’re ok, but that could have gone better. Also, don’t mention your powers to anyone else.”

“K” you say “Seems like there wasn’t any good options.”

“Perhaps” says the Sergeant “Firstly, I’m sorry I got you into this. You’re too young for this really but Kaelyn seemed to take a shine to you, so I figured it was worth a shot.”

“Yeah well” you say “That's that, can I go now?”
>>

>>37287132
oi, no need for name calling, friends. and no I voted for listening first first and attacking if he tried to bite.

“Not yet” says the Sergeant “Fae are...changeable is the best way I can describe it: I don’t think she’ll bear a grudge, I think that you have one more shot at this, you just need to convince her of what you just told me – that Quinn is an asshole and that you were scared.”

“How?” you ask

“Let her see into your mind” she says “let her see the truth of what Quinn did.”

“Quinn is” the sergeant twists her mouth and pauses “an obstacle yes, one I am confident you will be able to keep at arms length.”

[Fellowship] You’re pretty sure the Sergeant knows something about Quinn and his actions towards Kae? Towards you? Also she seems pretty pissed about something...to do with Quinn? It’s not clear.

“Right yeah” you say, not convinced “You seem pretty keen on her getting into my head Sergeant, why is that? I mean, if she does won’t she see all this? Won’t she completely distrust me when she finds out about our deal?”

Sergeant Yonsul gives a wry smile “No I think she’ll trust you more” she says “when she knows the truth.”

...

“That makes no sense” you say

The Sergeant shrugs “True” she says “But I’m asking you to trust me on this.” She leans in and puts a hand on your shoulder and says softly “I know I’m asking you to take risks, big risks, but there are a lot of lives at stake here and I promise I will do what I can to make this easier for you, but some things I can’t tell you, unless...” she trails off, considering.

Well this is mysterious. How do you respond?

>>
“What aren’t you telling me about Quinn?” you ask suspiciously “And why are you so confident she’ll trust me if she gets in my head?”

Sergeant Yonsul just shakes her head “I can’t say” she says.

“Right” you say, pulling away from her touch and stalking across the room “Of course, keep the stupid little duster girl in the dark, compartmentalisation or need-to-know or what-fucking-ever, right?” You pace, a little agitated “Because you think that if Kae looks inside my skull now she’ll like me, but if she looks inside my head after you’ve told me your secrets then you lose your only chance at getting her secrets except you might be able to tell me if...” and then you realise “You find away to block my memories or something.”

The Sergeant nods.

But that’s, no that’s stupid! “this entire conversation” you say, turning to the Sergeant “what if she sees this? What will she think?”

“That I’m keeping secrets from you” says Sergeant Yonsul “secrets you can’t reveal, because you don’t know them.”

“But she’ll see our agreement!” you almost-yell, this doesn’t make *any* sense.

“True” concedes Sergeant Yonsul, holding her chin in one hand “Maybe her seeing this conversation could be a deal-breaker. Maybe she’ll think you’re being manipulated and keep you close, maybe she’ll just avoid you if she sees this.”

“So now what?” you ask, once you’ve calmed down a little.

“Well now” says Sergeant Yonsul “I think you’ve figured out a little too much. I think you have three basic choices: You could go back to her and try to convince her that what happened with Quinn was a mistake, and avoid her reading you mind; you can quit if you want; or...we find a way to hide your memories.”

You glare at her through narrowed eyes “You mean a police mage right? Only if they put I dunno a barrier or block in my head she could sense the block, so they’ll need to wipe my memories won’t they?”
>>
Sergeant Yonsul nods “A human mage can’t make a good enough barrier anyway” she says “but removing a memory could do it.”

You clench your hands into fists. You’re sure the Infinite Mirror or Baalzamon could grant you some sort of protection against mind-reading, and if you awoke telepathic abilities using the Psychic Facility you might be able to do it yourself, or you could just...walk away.

What do you say?

Well, WE don't have any particular need to hide it, because we can make a good case to Kae we never intended to sell her out in the first place.
As long as Yonsul is convinced it isn't a issue, we have no issue.
>>
>>37288052
>I’m ready to decide (options in next vote)

At this point I'm nearly convinced Yonsul and Kae are already sort-of working together, just Kae can't directly give information to Yonsul without betryaing that connection, so she needs Shee as a go-between, one that doesn't know she is one, so no she can't betray it under mind-reading.
>>
>>37288093
She could find out a helluva lot more damaging things than just the fact we're an informant for the police.
>>
>>37288165
The only part we would have had real reason to avoid showing is the Old God thing, but at this point showing her that is actually good for us, because it allows us to convince her we haven't sold our soul or anything.

As for the rebel stuff, she either will not care, or like it. She seems way too naive and vapid to care about that.
And realistically speaking, the attempt to hide it could sabotage the entire convincing attempt, and getting the ability to hide it comes with its own issues. The acitivation is absurdly dangerous, probability-wise, and asking the Mirror for a power is dangerous because we don't know what he will ask for.
>>
“I’ve decided what I’m going to do” you say to Sergeant Yonsul.

“Oh?” she says, raising an eyebrow “And what is that?”

You could walk away from this whole mess, stop being Sara Yonsuls informant, but having an ally like Kaelyn is an incredible opportunity, plus Sergeant Yonsul as an ally would also be useful.

You could keep trying to convince Kae you’re her friend without letting her into your mind, relying upon your skills at diplomacy.

You could let a police mage selectively wipe a few things so that Kaelyn can’t read them out of your mind.

Or you could turn to your own resources to make your mind secure. Or you could do something else.

What is it?

Actually, not letting Quinn have Kae, is one of the main reasons I see for going after Kae.
Allied with her, he is a significantly bigger threat to us then he would otherwise be.
>>
>>37288433
That's a really shitty comparison. If there were a pit, and you couldn't see the bottom, would you argue it's better to jump down it and find out rather than be paralyzed by indecision? There are many other ways to find out what's at the bottom of the pit, like using a rope to climb down or a flashlight to illuminate it. Hell, we could always ignore the pit and walk around it. Limited information isn't an excuse for making stupidly risky decisions in this case. We know she's a high ranking fae tasked with killing rebels. We are a rebel. She showed some distaste for the executions earlier, but she didn't stop them. We also have this crazy illegal hell magic that is supposed to bring about the apocalypse. Letting her read our mind would be a real bad idea in a harder quest.

That explains it.
>>
>>37288540
>We know she's a high ranking fae tasked with killing rebels.
No.. actually she is not at all.
Her FATHER is a high-ranking fae tasked with investigating the GOVERNOR of this Hive.
Rebels don't figure into this at all as far as we know.
And the comparison was not faulty at all, you accused me of making too many assumptioms, not of making faulty decisions based on them. Which I refuted by showing why making assumptioms is important and necessary.
Ift we ACT on these assumptioms, is completly different.
And dependent on how likely these assumptioms are and the risks and gains we could incur by that act.
In the case of the pit, we would have no reason in most cases to jump into the pit, because the chance of gainging something by it, isn't worth the risk.

But given that you couldn't even be assed to read the story I'm probably wasting an attempt at reason at a whiner.
>>
>>37288683
Regardless of her level of involvement in hunting rebels, she is a high ranking fae related to other even higher ranking fae. It's far safer to assume that her finding out we're a rebel is going to lead to bad things than it is to just assume she's our best-friend-to-be.

“I’ll protect my mind another way” you say to the Sergeant “I’ll get back to you when I’m ready.”

Sergeant Yonsul gives you a searching look before saying “Ok, keep me posted – I’ll contact you in a week.”

She leads you back to the car and you get in, Zasky is chatting amiably with Rainya.

“To the bus stop” Sergeant Yonsul directs Zasky.

There’s no more conversation as you are driven to a deserted bus stop and you and Rainya wait for the bus. A few times Rainya opens her mouth as if to ask something, but thinks better of it. At the gate the guards accept your pass for both you and Rainya – huh, Sergeant Yonsul never told you it was multi-person.

When you’re both back in Dust Town Rainya finally asks “What was that all about?”

“It’s...complicated” you say “And I’m not sure how deep you want to go Rainya, the more I tell you, the more danger you could be in.”

Rainya nods “Ok...” she says “But I can’t help you if you don’t know anything, just tell me, please?”

“I’ll think about it” you promise “But not right now ok? I need to go home and heal.”

Rainya nods “Ok Shee” she says “see you in the morning.”

“See you in the morning” you say, the two of you part ways.

You spend enough time to repair your injuries before going to get Lirael, it’s late and she’s asleep, you end up carrying a semi-conscious Lirael on your back to your hut before you bed down for the night, after taking your sleeping pills.

The next morning you rise bright and early, the events of the previous night are still not much clearer in the light of day. Lirael asks repeatedly about what happened but you put her off with vague answers – you need to sort things out in your own head first.

As the two of you grab breakfast at the mess shelter, Rhydian walks up and says quietly “Urgent meeting, right now, follow me.”

No, the assumptiom is pretty founded by basically her entire behavior sofar.
I grant that she is rather schizophrenic, but its abet I'm willing to make, especially because I disagree with it risking the lives of everyone Shee cares about, because the rebel thing only threatens the live of exactly one person Shee cares about.

You follow Rhydian, Lirael in tow. You reach Charuns shed just as the others are getting there, Dev arrives last. Once you’re all assembled, Charun speaks, he’s sat on the back of his truck and he looks...somber.

“We have a mission” he says “We’ll be part of a larger force, maybe a couple-dozen in total and we’ll be taking control of a communications relay station, we’ll need to hold it for a time, and then get the hell away, any questions?”

“Uh yeah” says Rhydian “Why?”

Charun nods “In a week” he explains “Dozens of communications stations will go offline for maintenance, the rebellion will knock out a few more. The one we’re attacking will be one of the few stations left. Its civilian traffic-only but it will be enough. We’ll upload a pre-recorded message that will play on all vid-stations and we expect to get wide coverage, maybe a quarter of the planet.”

“If its civvie only” you ask “Why two-dozen of us? It can’t be that well guarded.”

Charun scowls “The Hive Governor” he says “Will probably order Gifted and security forces to retake the station as soon as the message starts to play, he will want to make it look like he’s doing something. We believe that some of his Gifted can teleport – including being able to take others with them. Higher-ups have ordered that we hold the station until the entire message – 10 minutes in total – has played.”

“Can’t they just shut it down?” asks Dev

“They could” acknowledges Charun “But to do so they’d have to shut down the vid channels and most of the Wire – and too many in the Hives rely on the Wire for everything, everything is Wire-linked now. The Wire going down could be just as embarrassing to the Hive Governors, they’ll gamble on retaking the station and capturing or killing the rebels rather than just turning everything off.”

“But...Gifted” says Rainya “Aren’t they dangerous?”
>>
“Very” acknowledges Charun “This mission is under orders – but I’m making it volunteer-only. If any of you want to back out just say so now and I’ll make some excuse to the bigwigs.” He looks at you all in turn “Make no mistake, people will die on this mission.”

Rhydian and Dev share a look then both say “We’re in.”

Rainya opens her moth, shuts it again and then looks at you. Charun looks at you.

Would still mean one group at least needs to get in and out, but we wouldn't have to stick around for the entire ten minutes, I'm not too keen either to die for a propaganda message.

“Couldn’t we just use hack it?” you ask “I mean, quick in and out and upload the message and then gone?”

“It could work” acknowledges Charun “But when the Gifted arrive with their guards they might have their own experts with them who can disable the message without shutting the whole station down.”

“How about a relay” you say “Just send the message direct to the station from nearby – we’d need to take the station but not hold it.”

“Same problem” says Charun, as the others just watch the discussion “No guarantee that when they arrive to retake the station they can’t shut it off, and” he adds “I’m not in overall command, someone else is – you’d need to convince them that your plan can work. You’ll meet the commander in a week.”

“Is the message really worth our lives?” you ask

“It’ll reach hundreds of millions of people” responds Charun “I don’t know the full contents but it details some of the faes crimes and what they’ve done to people, is that worth risking lives? Yes, I think so – I’m going.”

How do you respond?

I'm not too worried, a week of preparation means a lot. We'll be able to get more gifts, more XP, another Discipline and probably get the Warmech functioning by that point.

>>37289995

>>37290026
Reading the post would answer that question quite nicely.
>>
>>37290057
>Reading the post would answer that question quite nicely.
No it doesn't at all actually. They wouldn't need to shut down entire parts of the wire to remote control this stations systems. And if shutting down the station itself would do that, then his answer why we can't use it as relay makes no sense.
So either they can shut down the station without the rest of the wire, or they can't.
>>
You can ask these questions in character if you want.

Writing update but will check back in case I need to add questions to the update.
>>
>>37290090
It does make sense they might not be able to remote control the station.
For some reason.
But then we would only need to destroy whatever they use for manual input, so it really doesn't seem to make much sense.
>>
>>37290142
I would like to ask how this makes any sense, but I doubt Charun would know.
Otherwise it would have already occured to him on his own.
>>
>>37290090
They don't have remote controls, probably due to security concerns about an enemy agent being able to hijack the means by which they remotely control the station. You know, the exact thing we'd do if it was possible.

They can probably stop the signal from within the station if it's being used as a relay without shutting it down, which is Charun's concern. If we don't guard it, they'll probably be able to stop the signal, if we do, there's no real benefit to using it as a relay instead.

“Me too” says Rainya

“And me” says Lirael, wait, who said Lirael was coming on this mission?

Charun nods “Ok, get prepped, make sure you’re well-rested the night before and in one-weeks time make sure you’re back here as early as you can be in the evening, bring your best weapons.”

You all go your separate ways, you take Lirael to school, on the way you have an interesting conversation with her.

“I am going with you right?” asks Lirael

“What makes you say that?” you ask

“The Gifted” says Lirael “they’re dangerous – I can help.”

“Alright you can come” you say “but stay out of sight and warn me of approaching enemies, don’t put yourself in danger.”

“Ok” says Lirael, nodding furiously. After dropping Lirael off at school you head to work. The day passes uneventfully: You file reports, take work orders and just keep your head down. As you sit on the bus on the way out of the Hive you start thinking about the week ahead. You’ve got six nights in total before you’re on this mission and three nights before you have another day off. You can get a lot done in a week.

You get off at your stop and head to pick Lirael up from School, deep in thought.

If the Gouger keeps up his usual schedule he should be striking again soon. You could hunt him tonight.

You could head to the psychic research facility to work on your warmech or explore it or maybe activate more psychic powers, though it might not be safe yet.

You could deliberately see the favour of one of the Five, though who knows what they might ask of you.

You could spend time with someone you know, either just hanging out or taking them with you on your other task. Or you could do something else.

We should be able to pick up Metapsionics before the next meeting with Yonsul, don't worry too much.

Most of it's abilities are centered around dealing with others that have magical or psionic abilities, so it'll be useful for reasons other than Psychic Shield. That mission where we'll probably wind up fighting Gifted comes to mind.

You pick Lirael up from school and head over to Rainyas house.

“Hi Shee” says Rainya “What’s up?”

“Let’s grab something to eat” you suggest “and go back to my place.” Once you all have a bowl of stew you head back to your place and you fill Rainya in on your hunt for the Gouger, and your plans for this evening.

“Ugh” says Rainya with a shiver “The Gouger gives me the creeps, so how are we hunting it Shee?”

“Well” you say “I’ve a rough idea of its hunting grounds, but no idea where it lairs. We could maybe just look for its lair, but we probably won’t find anything.”

“I could find it!” pipes up Lirael “I think.”

“Or Lirael can look for it using her vampire powers” you say “We tried that once and it didn’t work, but maybe it will this time.”

“Or...?” asks Rainya

“Or” you say, a little quieter “We wait until the Gouger kills again and try to pick up its trail.”

Both Rainya and Lirael go quiet. You also wonder about the Gifted from the weapons fair with lightning hands, will you encounter him on your hunt for the Gouger? Either way you’ll keep an eye out.

What is the plan?

I agree we need mental protections, even if I disagree we need them for Kae.

It's not that risky.

We have best of three for awakening a power, so we probably don't need to go for more than 3 hours (which is DC 15 for awakening, I think. Teacher said it was a 1/4 chance).

The injury roll is either nonexistent at 3 hours or easier to pass, since it was stated as being, what, a 2% chance at three hours? Something like that.

We're probably going to wind up activating one power or another once the cooldown is up regardless, and I'd prefer Metapsionics for reasons other than Psychic Shield.

Mirror might be better overall, or it might just be that it's a guaranteed cost that we can know about in advance rather than a risk. Begging a gift from someone while we're at 1 favor probably isn't a good move, if it's even possible given that we need at least 2 favor to receive gifts.

I agree that we should try to gain favor with him and Baalz regardless of whether we get metapsionics, provided we encounter non-stupid non-dickish opportunities to do so.

“I think Lirael is our best chance” you say, wrapping your arm around her shoulders as she sits next to you. Lirael looks up at you with a smile, her mouth full of stew.

After dinner you and Rainya grab your guns, armour and force shields and a cloak each to hide your weapons under and you go out for a late night walk with Lirael.

The three of you walk through Dust Town together, Lirael occasionally mumbling under her breath as she focuses all of her attention on the search.

“Maybe..no, not him, he’s just angry.”

“Is it? No, he’s reading.”

“There’s a man hurting a woman! No wait, she wants him to...ewwwww!”

And so it continues for several hours. Lirael starts to get tired and even Rainya begins to yawn, you feel your eyelids starting to droop but force yourself onwards, suddenly Lirael stops “Shee” she says quietly “There’s a man thinking about the Gouger really hard”.

“What do you mean?” you ask, Lirael is quiet.

“Someone who lost someone to the Gouger?” suggests Rainya.

“No...” says Lirael “Someone, someone who knew the Gouger back when it was...a person..?” Lirael doesn’t sound too sure.

“What’s he doing?” you ask Lirael quietly. Ahead the tall man is walking slowly down the street, something small held in both hands. A personal comm maybe?

“He’s tracking the Gouger” says Lirael, more confidently “He’s a got...a thing that helps him find it, but it’s not working great so he’s going slow.”

The three of you quietly follow the tall man at a distance. He seems engrossed in what he’s holding in his hands and although he stops to look around regularly, he is looking ahead and doesn’t seem to have considered he might be followed.

You follow him on a meandering trail through Dust Town and he stops from time to time to shake his tracking-whatever and curse under his breath. This goes on for an hour or so and he still hasn’t found the Gouger.

Still...he seems to have been walking in a rough circle, maybe he’s at least narrowed down the Gougers lair to a square kilometre or so?

It’s getting late, if you stay out much longer you’re all going to be tired tomorrow. You could keep following him in the hopes that he leads you to where you need to be. You could talk to him, or now that the Gougers Lair has been narrowed down, maybe you could come back tomorrow?

“Lirael” you say to the little vampire girl at your side “Can you find the Gouger now?”

Lirael closes her eyes and concentrates, you wait, and wait, and wai-

There’s a sharp intake of breath from Lirael “He’s here!” she gasps “Oh Shee” Lirael hugs you suddenly, burying her face in your mid-section “His mind it’s all pieces and bits and he’s *horrible*!”

You hug Lirael until she’s calmed down, by the time she has, the tall cloaked man is out of sight.

“I need you to lead me to him” you say to Lirael. Lirael sniffles and nods, taking you through the streets until you arrive at ruin that was once a shack, just like many other shacks and ruins here in Dust Town.

Lirael points to it “He’s in there?” asks Rainya, her gun out and ready.

Lirael shakes her head and points down “It’s a tunnel” she says. You walk cautiously towards the ruin – there does indeed appear to be a large hole under it – easily big enough for a large man to climb down. “It’s sleeping” says Lirael “And...I think there’re other entrances.” Although it’s a big tunnel, you’d all be crouching and climbing down there.

You could go down there after it as a group.

“Ok” says Rainya, not sounding very confident.

“Lirael” you say “Stay with Rainya”

“But Shee!” whines Lirael.

“No buts” you say “I’ll only be gone a few minutes.” You hope, as you climb down into the tunnel, a lightrod held in one hand.

Climbing down this tunnel is easy, it’s an easy fit for you and the sides are rough with plenty of handholds, climbing out in a hurry might be harder, good thing you can teleport...

As you climb down you become aware of two things: you can hear heavy breathing ahead, and also the stink of rotting meat.

As you continue your downwards journey both become more pronounced, until the heavy breathing is clearly snoring, and the stink is bag enough to make your eyes water. Just as you’re about to turn another corner the snoring falters, you freeze, you can hear a snuffling and then a gnawing choking voice says loudly “ggmmnum fresh meat....?”

Sounds like the Gouger just woke up.

What’s the plan?

Welcome to Bizarro /tg/

First things first, you need to protect yourself, you focus, drawing upon your powers and then you start to make a series of mini-jumps, never staying exactly in the same place, moving yourself sometimes by a few inches or a foot at a time. That done you start to raise your rifle, ready to sight down the scope, as soon as it-

A bulky shape comes rushing into view, damn it moves fast!

You haven’t even got your rifle ready before the...thing is on you. In this tunnel you can’t get a good look at it, it appears to be vaguely humanoid with pale white skin and a brutish face. It has large grasping hands that snatch at you, passing through the space you just occupied but your constant teleporting keeps it from striking or grabbing you.

The Gouger roars in frustration, its bellow filling the tunnel and it keeps trying to hit you but can’t. Its breath stinks and you see it has a huge ape-like maw but with sharp, serrated teeth.

What do you do?

As you frustrate the Gougers attempts to slam its oversized fists into you or grab you, you bring up your rifle and fire off a Wired round, hitting it in the chest. It bellows as blood starts to drip from the wound but doesn’t see to slow down.

With that done you start to head for the exit. The Gouger follows close behind, it climbs far faster than you, but every time it tries to attack you, you teleport a short distance up the tunnel until you see the entrance ahead. You burst out with the Gouger in hot pursuit, teleporting away from its every atta-

Wow...flying, spinning...what were you doing again, bang, loud noises....

[HP 16/22]

You reflexively teleport out of the mass of metal sheets and wooden frame that was until recently someone’s house, shaking your head to clear it of the fuzziness. A very surprised couple sit up in bed. “What’s going on?” one asks in a nervous tone.

Looking around you see the Gouger chasing a fleeing Rainya, the Gouger looks like it has a number of needles sticking out from its flesh but hasn’t slowed at all. Lirael is nowhere to be se- no wait, there she is, circling above, ready to dive down on the Gouger.

“Keep running!” you yell to Rainya, at the same time you motion Lirael to wait as you put another bullet into the Gouger, it bellows in pain and abandons its pursuit of Rainya, turning towards you.

At the same time Lirael drops onto it from above, her tiny form doesn’t seem to register with the Gouger as it heads in your direction, running on all fours in a disjointed, loping gaze.

It notices however when Lirael wraps her arms around its neck and begins to squeeze as hard as she can. The Gouger breaks of its charge at you and starts trying to grab at Lirael but can’t dislodge her. It’s face turns read with effort as Lirael starts to choke it to death.

Having got some distance Rainya turns, pistol at the ready. You and Rainya prepare to shoot the massive beast as Lirael strangles it: you should have little problem hitting such a brute without risking Lirael. Just as you are ready to open fire a tall man in a long coat comes running into view, headed for Lirael and the Gouger. Electricity arcs from the mans hands as he bellows “No, don’t hurt him, he doesn’t know what he’s doing!”

Damn, now you’ll have to fight one of the Gifted too.

20, 9 + 6 from last thread that didn't get added + 5 from now.

>>37295232
Shee Hyul, 16/20
>Adaptation -5 XP
>Life Drain -5 XP
>Charisma to 4th degree -6 XP

We can't raise Charisma any higher than 4th degree yet since it's capped at our Favor with the patron of the gift.

Life Drain instead of Dimensional Arsenal because of the Adept bonus for Adaptation increasing it's benefit from a +4 to HP and +4 to CON rolls to +18 HP, +9 to CON rolls and +1 DR.

Life Drain is a fairly useful ability under it's own merits as well, and I feel that it's the most useful Psychometabolism power right now due to being a direct offensive ability we can use when being grappled, restrained or in very close quarters.

I'm uncertain what to do with the last 4. On the one hand, we do use Fellowship rather frequently and I hate that -1 with a passion, but Sniper is also fairly tempting.

Skill ranks are always good but Investigator feels like the most necessary of those currently and I feel that if we're getting three different Fellowship skills we're using the stat enough to justify getting out of the negative modifier hole.

We could also save it, of course.
>>
>>37296332
I'd say save it or get rid of that -1
>>
>>37296412
Alright, if there are no objections before thread death, XP spending will be:

Shee Hyul, 20/20
>Adaptation -5 XP
>Life Drain -5 XP
>Charisma to 4th degree -6 XP
>Fellowship +2 (10) -4 XP
>>
>>37296613
I object
>>
>>37297122
Are you actually objecting about something in the XP spending or just fucking with me?
>>
>>37297229
Instead of raising Cha I want to get enhance senses for 5 XP
>>
>>37297429
Really?

Charisma is already useful and gets much better at higher levels. We'd be at a +4 to all Leadership and Persuasion rolls constantly (before factoring in the skills that boost those) and probably get some other benefit added to it as a result of reaching a significantly higher level.

Enhance Senses lets us raise Perception in a similar manner to Enhance Ability's stat boosts, but it only works for Perception. It seems like a kind of odd choice to get right now, particularly at the cost of all three purchased degrees in Charisma.
>>
>>37297793
I don't think it's odd. I want the extra perception to see through whatever garbage Yonsul is trying to get us tangled up in.
>>
>>37298017
I said it was odd because a general, permanent bonus to Persuasion and Leadership with other, unknown benefits seems more useful to our present situation than a power to boost one particular statistic temporarily.

I plan on having Psychometabolism Mastered (i.e. all powers purchased) before the next meeting with Yonsul (~5 1/2 days) regardless of this one burst of spending, so I didn't really factor in that scenario as being the point.

Nevertheless, since you're serious, I'll modify the spending to:

Shee Hyul, 14/20
>Adaptation -5 XP
>Life Drain -5 XP
>Fellowship +2 (10) -4 XP

And we can put it to a vote whether we go with Charisma or Enhance Senses at the start of the next thread. Acceptable?
>>
>>37298281
Sounds good.
