Welcome to Xenocide Quest!
You are ANDR[u]-117, your story begins here!
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=xenocide+quest

Characters: http://pastebin.com/e85Zy8Wb

Dice: http://pastebin.com/Yy8QnWxn

Your flight from Zirk’s Emporium takes you quickly to the elevator, your mind a mix of confusion and panic. It takes only a moment for the shining doors to slide open, and you enter the square compartment, the only other occupant being some sort of strange, floating, tentacle blob. You wait impatiently to reach the ground floor, but the ride seems to take longer than you expected. You tap your foot against the floor, trying to contain your instinct to run. Is that even instinct or some sort of ingrained emotion? Your foot makes a loud clanking noise as metal hits metal. After several moments of this, the floating blob rotates towards you, you stop tapping your foot then. Is that elevator music you hear? Something similar to a whale song and a saxophone wafts through the elevator air. Fucking Xenos.
>>
>>37286095

Finally you arrive at the ground floor, the floating orb rotates towards you one more time before it exits, what was that? Some sort of dirty glance? Regardless, the long elevator ride gave you time to calm your mind, and stop the panic swelling up in your chest. Zirk might suspect you’re a human, or at least a “Terran” but that doesn’t mean anything bad will come from it.
In fact, Zirk was rather helpful, even kind enough to give you leads on possible Terran information. You start to weave your way through the crowds of Xenos as you think. You take an indirect path back to the ship, incase you are being followed. Your hand reaches out to feel the small translator by your neck, suspicious thoughts enter your mind. Zirk was able to know that you had no bank account when you entered the store, so perhaps the translators link up to the station’s computer somehow.
That would mean the path you are taking back to the ship is useless, anyone really wanting to find you could probably just look up where you are docked. While you think, you finish your random path, and end up at your ship, thanks to the map of the station you have.

NDL-74 remains where you last saw it. The giant stands guard in front of the airlock, its head moving left to right in a vigilant manner. The great machine gives you a ping over the radio in greeting. You in turn respond with a wave to your reticent friend, “Greetings NDL-74, you have done a wonderful job. Come, we have much to attend to. Show me where you stored our new found weapons”. NDL nods, and without a word, slips into the airlock, the massive weapon cradled in its arms.
>>
>>37286095
>You are ANDR[u]-117
>117
You sure about that, OP?
>>
>>37286123
You follow the giant through the halls, and past the reactor room, into one of the halls which leads to an industrial block of the ship. The one NDL-74 leads you to is the block opposite where the shuttle is docked. Past rows of motionless conveyors and robotic arms, you are lead to the room housing the missiles of the ship. Massive racks hold the steel lances in place, while in secured crates lie the warheads, each one held at the ready by mechanical arms on a loading conveyor. NDL seems to have set up a small armory in the magazine of the Lunar Apogee.

Originally designed to divert any asteroids heading towards the station or Earth, you and Andrew Martin easily converted the missiles into weapons to use as crude weapons against all foes, known and unknown alike. Your four remaining nuclear warheads were designed to break up massive asteroids, but in a pinch, they could be used to drench your enemies in nuclear fire, or to rain death down on a planet. Your ballistic warheads were made for much smaller asteroids, or even comets, but you could see them as useful against small to medium ships. You’re not sure how you feel about NDL putting the makeshift armory in the ships magazine, but you don’t know where else you could fit.

Turning your attention to the salvage weapons, you begin to quickly take stock. There are 8 strange rifles of sorts, with that familiar design of Xeno and Human melded together. The rifles rest on a rack, with several black boxes nearby, which you suspect to be ammo. On a separate stand is another of the large weapons which NDL currently holds, though you see no ammo. Finally, still in the crate you found them in is an additional “pistol”. Well, it seems like you made the right choice in not selling the sidearm, as it is one of the more rarer weapons in your stock. Satisfied with what you see, you give a nod to NDL-74, and head off to the bridge, the giant following behind you wordlessly.
>>
>>37286158
Entering the empty bridge, you quickly make for the captains terminal with the starmap in hand. With some tampering with several different wires, you achieve a physical connection rather effortlessly. Reaching out to the ship’s computer, you feel the powerful presence envelop your own, pushing its way into your minds. Though you dislike connecting to the ships computer directly, you curious to see if the starmap will work.

The ship’s computer reaches out to the starmap to initiate a handshake protocol. After receiving the handshake, the device responds in a series of codes which the ship’s computer does not view as actual code. Once again, the ship’s computer reaches out again, but receives a different type of alien response, though the computer registers this response as code it does not recognize. For a third time, the computer initiates a handshake protocol, and to your surprise, receives a response in binary. The starmap requests several language packages, which the computer provides. The commands start to flow between the device and the ship’s computer flawlessly. It seems the Xenos have a knack for working with all sorts of technology.

With several matters taken care of, you still have much to attend to.
What shall you do?

Let1s bring the humans up on the situations, we have assumed the role of captain to make matters most efficient, they are to stay here to avoid detection and hostility, do not leave the ship or be easily visible, Marie may change her name now, we will go attend to some issues regarding our continued existence.
Be nice while we're gone, don't mess with the ship or the bots.

We have "holsters" for the pistols, we can take them plus a shoulder-worn rifle at the same time, can't we?

You are NDL-74 stare for a moment as a massive map of the galaxy comes to life on the bridge screen, showing billions of stars. The map slowly zooms in to a pulsating star, which you assume is your current position, in plain text the name appears, GV-321647. Seeing the expanse of stars before you suddenly reminds you of what you need. You need to find the humans, somewhere among the 250 billion stars of the Milky Way. You cut the connection with the computer, but not before sending in the commands to change the name of the ship to Lunar Apogee. With that, You start off at a slow jog back to the makeshift armory, NDL-74 easily keeping pace. You pick of the sidearm still in the case, feeling the weight of the weapon in your hand. It feels right. You attach the weapon to your hip, small mechanical arms securing it in place. And with a grand total of 9 minutes 45 seconds spent on board, you’ve off the Lunar Apogee.

Stepping out of the airlock, you turn to your companion NDL-74, “Please return to guard duty, and maintain vigilance”, with only a ping over the radio as confirmation, NDL returns to scanning the docks for hostiles.

The first thing you do is return to the terminal that the operator contacted you with. You stare at the unresponsive screen for several seconds, before clicking a button labeled, “request assistance”. You wait several moments before hit it again, then again, and again, and ag- “WHAT? WHAT DO YOU WANT?” The annoyed scream emits from the speaker, the small camera unfolding itself from the terminal, finally focusing on you, “Oh it’s you… what do you want?”

Ignoring the rude tone of the operator, you get to the point, “Is it possible for you to register me as a scientist so I may access the library?”
>>
>>37287254
The response is immediate, “All scientist have to be registered to the library archive. I can’t change your status, nor do I want to, good day”. And with that, the camera folds quickly back into the terminal. You shrug, you really didn’t expect that to work, but you don’t think that sort of response was called for.

You take to the streets on the station once again. The docks are quite empty, but as soon as you make it to the market district, you have to struggle through a flood of life forms. Some suited, some bared skin, you do note a variety of weapons are used, though they aren’t weapons you recognize. You follow the path that Zirk laid out on your hub, slowly making your way through the massive Trade Hub 7. As you make the way along the path, you you notice the quality of the buildings seem to get nicer, more polished. The amount of weapons being wielded (at least in plain sight) decreases dramatically. You note that you see armored personnel walking around, scanning the crowd for something. Some sort of policing force? You arrive at the tallest building in the area, it dwarfs all the other buildings in comparison.

It’s not that it’s the biggest building you’ve seen on Trade Hub 7, you just haven’t noticed that all the other buildings around have gotten smaller and smaller, more house like actually. You make your way to the towering building, and enter through an arched doorway similar to the market towers. This tower isn’t hollowed like the market one, and doesn't seem to serve the same purpose. You see all sorts of Xenos running about, papers in hand, some argue, while others walk in silence. You don’t know for certain if they are bureaucrats or scientist, but your map tells you the library starts on the 42th floor. In the center of the massive chamber are multiple elevators. You make your way towards the elevator shafts, and ride one up to the 42th floor without incident.
>>
>>37287275

When the metal doors slide open, you are greeted by white metallic walls, the sleek metal casts a glare about the entire room. The elevators open facing an arched doorway, at least 30 feet wide. On both sides of the door, a guard stands vigilantly, their bodies encased in metal suits, and rifles of a xeno make in their hand. What you assume are scientist hurry between the arched doorway, not even sparing the guards a glance. Next to entrance is a small lowered desk, with a Xeno you haven’t seen before tending to it.

The scientist don’t seem to be showing any identification, but perhaps they don’t need any. You wouldn’t be surprised if their translators, or maybe some other device, informed the guards that they have permission to pass through the doors. Maybe you can talk your way in, perhaps by talking to the receptionist

We probably don't want to share the fast FTL tech with anyone (even though it could make us very wealthy in xeno society, it would also likely make us dead by people wanting the secret)
But we can leverage it for trade runs. Go through trade routes fast and make a bunch of cash. then use it to buy tech.
The most important tech to acquire is the infinite energy reactors (and fabrication upgrade if we can't manufacture it with our current stuff). And the second is advanced biotech. We should be able to go back to the moonbase with all those skeletons and harvest their bone marrow for DNA to make vat grown clones of humans to restore humanity.

then again, we could ignore all of that as it sounds more like OP wants this to be some sort of FTL like quest

You decide that you’d rather not risk getting caught trying to sneak into the library, so you head over to the desk. You would simply describe the Xeno behind the desk as nightmarish. The creature doesn’t seem to have any lips, its death bared in an eternal snarl. The death are long, and yellow. You can’t tell if they are for consuming flesh or grinding up plants. Strange tendons of flesh connect the upper part of it’s mouth and cheek bones to its lower mouth and chin, to what purpose you don’t know. It has an oval shaped head, the cranium extending out towards its back. Its eyes are set far to the side, but still allow it to look foward, while probably giving it a wider peripheral vision. Further back on its head, a set of straight horns extend horizontally backwards, while a smaller, thinner set drape out over its back.

In addition to two “normal” arms, it has four smaller manipulators positioned on its chest, the upper pair being smaller than the lower pair, while all of the manipulators having three clawed digits. The harsh white light reflects off the grey skin of the Xeno.

As you walk over towards it, it looks up from the desk it is working at, looking directly at you. It glances down at its desk again, before looking up again, nodding vigorously, “Yes, yes, we have been expecting you”. it says, walking out from behind its desk, looking at you upper and down. Its voice is both raspy and high pitched, it also has a sort of chirp in its speech. “The station, yes, reports that you have been isolated from [ Andromedan ] culture for many years, yes, yes. It is my honor, to be a representative of the Library, yes, to first meet you”. At this point, the creature does a sort of shuffling bow, though you note it has difficulty since its waist is much narrower than its upper body.
>>
>>37287974
“I, am a Librarian, yes, yes. My people, are one of several species who completely devote themselves to the gathering and maintaining of knowledge, yes, yes”. You rest your hand on the butt of one of your sidearms, as the creature got increasingly closer, do they not have the concept of personal space? “Yes, perhaps your travels have shown you the difficulty of moving from one star to the other, yes, yes. Just as it difficult to move ships and goods about, yes, the same is for knowledge, yes. Many people develop [INTERNET] on their planets, yes, this is good for sharing of information in a star system, yes, but impossibly to actually work over the expanse of galaxies, yes.

Sadly, there is no form of instantaneous travel of transmission of data, no, so information must be stored at important points in Libraries like this, yes. Information is copied from the Great Library Ships, yes, and transported to Libraries like these. Sometimes, information is even sent back, yes. Those who bring information to the Library, yes, have access to alllllll the information of the Library, yes, yes. Perhaps you were a scientist are your backwater world, yes. So the question [FRIEND/CLIENT]”, the Xeno says, not even half a foot away from you, the creature is only several inches taller than you, and looks down at you with beady eyes, “is this, yes, do you have any information for the library, yes, no ?”

One manipulator reaches out, and slowly touches your suit, “Many Librarians, yes, are what one would call Ascensionist, yes, yes. We care much about biological and technological developments, yes. Perhaps you can share you biology?” You resist your urge to smack the manipulator away, and pull your weapon on this ugly creature.

>I agree, never share our near instant FTL tech. If we do trade runs, I suggest actually fucking off somewhere for a while and arriving just early enough that it seems possible, to not be suspicious.
The way I figured it, we pretend to be a fleet. Lunar apogee 1 through 100.
We only ferry standard goods.
Leave station A with goods-1 as LA001, get to station B with goods-1 and designation LA041. Then, go to station C with goods-2, do a wide circuit. when the time comes where LA001 would have arrived at station B had it used standard FTL then you do another route there with goods-1 again. only this time coming out of FTL with LA001 designation. We might to rig some automatic external cosmetic modifications. Or maybe after a few runs purchase an honest to goodness xeno freighter that is mass produced and very common and upgrade it with our drive

Another thing we could do is set up some sort of storage facility on a hidden base. Go to station 1, get goods, drop in base, go to station 2 get goods, drop in base. repeat. When enough time has passed to justify travel trips, start doing trips to destination locations with the goods.... actually that one might work better with courier missions. where someone pays us to shuttle THEIR goods.
Of course, if someone finds and raids our base we are totally fucked since we now owe a lot of companies. Plus being on record like that makes it easier to notice something fishy about us, so, probably a bad idea to do it this way

NEITHER! our weapon is of human origin. We are supposed to be from a backwater. random traders recognize it as human in origin, librarian will reconize it as human in origin, we are supposed to be showing him tech from OUR backwater world, not lost human tech.

... i mean, maybe we could say that this isn't our own tech but something we salvaged from the lost homeworld of the locals? still it is too suspecious. I would rather we dig through the assorted tech junk in our ship to find something to share

Ascenstionists see AI as heretical.
Uplifters see AI as unnecessary, even unnatural in the "evolution of species".
Imperials only see them as useful weapons, that should be destroyed if they get too powerful.
>>
>>37288430
So
>Ascenstionists will kill us for heresy
>Uplifters maybe kill us for unnatural and unnecessary or maybe tolerate us
>Imperials will kill us for being independent and powerful or maybe just place an enslavement chip in our brain
basically, everyone hates us except maybe humans
... you know, this is actually possibly humanities greatest advantage. If we can build better AI which builds better AI and so on. The AI being at least somewhat friendly to humans (not outright subservient, they are our beloved creators not our masters). we could basically break the system

why? its not like all of them are enemies. only some select few destroyed earth (and heck, some fought on humanity's side) Also, revenge isn't gonna advance our goals of acquiring tech and restoring humanity and creating an AI civ that coexists with humanity
>>
>>37288685
I'm 100% there are several types of bio scanners.
>>
>>37288682
>We are not revealing the stasis cube mate
and why not, mate? stasis cube is alien tech not human tech, and is possessed by multiple alien species. its just RARE. We did not in any way improve it

>we will solve that shit ourselves and use the tech for ourselves.
How would we solve it ourselves? Working with him to reverse engineer the tech will benefit our both, we have nothing to go on and no way to crack the stasis cube tech. But if he helps us do it we get the tech (which again, various xenos already have and is nothing new) and possibly access to alien reverse engineering tech (Scanners, etc).

also, we need to offer SOMETHING to get into the library
>>
>>37288701

point, but >>37288685 is on the right track, even if we can't fool ALL bio scanners, being able to fool some of them might be useful.

... and heck, who says we can't add functional biological components to ourselves to expand ourselves? Are you familiar with doythaban from schlock mercenary? Basically, grow an organic neural mesh for our AI mind to expand into to become a hybrid organic+AI combo having the best of both worlds
>>
>>37288750
they probably DON'T all work on the same principle, and we can't study them all because we don't have access to them all. there are many various factions of xenos all with their own tech and secrets.

well, one of the human colony ships managed to enter FTL and leave sol system without being destroyed. so there might be a hidden colony of humans out there in the galaxy, or maybe its still in transit with them all frozen...
or maybe it was destroyed and they are all dead.

incidentally, we were told there are terrans around, not humans, but animals from earth which the uplifters took away before it was destroyed and have since uplifted into sapience. So we might find sapient dogs or elephants or dolphins and such

You stare at the ugly creature in front of you. Slowly, you pull out your weapon and offer it to the Xeno handle first. The manipulator resting on your hand quickly snaches the weapon from your hand, the other manipulators helping it turn it over for the Librarian to examine. After several moments, the creature looks back up to you, “Strange, yes, yes. I do not recall the make of this weapon, no. Perhaps we should test fire it, yes. What strange symbols” The creature mumbles as it starts heading off towards the entrance, you don’t see any other option but to follow behind it. The guards give you no trouble, they continue to stare into the flow of the crowd of scientist.

You follow behind the Librarian, past endless shelves of what you assume is information on some medium you are unfamiliar with. You pause a moment to stare at much a massive archive. The shelves expand so far that they start to fade, the rows seeming to extend into the void. You have to quicken your pace to catch up with your guide. Instead of heading deeper into the sea of knowledge, the Librarian turns off into a hallway, past another set of doors, this one only having a single guard. Again, no form of identification is asked for, and the two of you make it past the door without being accosted. Suddenly, the white walls are replaced by…. stone? Some sort of earthen material now makes up the walls, perhaps its the prefered habitat of the Librarians. Now you see many other Librarians, walking with their hunched stance, some carrying tablets of information, others carrying pieces of technology.

It wasn't a base, it was a crashed arcship. And their cryo pods were the only ones working.

Another type of creature seems to inhabit these tunnels. These creatures are about 5-6 feet tall, they walking around with almost no clothing, only small shorts protecting their modesty. These new creatures have very humanoid bodies, two arms, two legs, tannish skin even. The most shocking features are the lack of mouth, and nipples on their chest. You don’t know how they feed themselves, but you doubt these creature became like this naturally. They also have a large horn protruding from the back of their skull, it reminds you of the pair of horns the Librarians have. On their hairless scalps, regular blotches of darker skin make a simple pattern. For each Librarian, a flock of these smaller creatures follow obediently behind the Librarians. Some even start to follow you and your guide. There seems to be some sort of communication going on, though you can’t hear it, in the audible range for humans, or higher/ lower. You can’t really see what it is, but unbidden, the smaller creatures run about, picking up tools, or tablets, and handing them to the Librarians without a sound.

Something is unsettling about what you see, but you can’t really pick out what it is. Perhaps it is the fact that you are passing through rooms upon rooms of Xenos, and not a single sound is made. Still, you feel a mental chill run down your spine, your nerves suddenly on edge. You can’t tell why.

You seem to have arrived at your destination, a long room with racks of various Xeno weapons, some are obviously rifles, missile launchers, etc, while others have functions you can’t decipher. The Librarian allows you into the room first, before following behind, with a flock of the smaller creatures behind it.
>>
>>37289124

The grey skinned creature offers you back your weapon with its manipulators, you notice that it uses its normal arms very rarely, “These is your weapon, yes, please provide a demonstration, yes,yes.”. You take your weapon back happily, part of you grateful you have 50,000 credits back in your hands.
“I will gladly provide a demonstration of this weapon, but, I see no targets”. You say, take a look around the rock encrusted room, its obviously designed as a range, but you see nothing to shoot at.

The Librarian nods its head in that vigorous manner, “yes, yes, targets”. Without word, one of the smaller creatures runs down the range, going almost exactly 30 feet, and promptly turning around to face you, “please, a demonstration, yes, yes.” You look from the Librarian to the creature down range. You’re a bit conflicted on what to do, on one hand, you require information and hate Xenos, on the other, you’re killing this poor creature for personal gain. You didn’t expect an intellectual institute to be so brutal. You slowly point your weapon down range, a bit shocked by the turn of events. You sight at the creature uncertainly, the optics on your weapon automatically telling you the range. You take a deep mental breath, looking at the Librarian, then looking at the creature down range, its life in your hands, you lock eyes with the creature.

And that’s what you realized was so unsettling.
The eyes that stared back at you are white with an intensely blue iris. The eyes looking back at you are the same eyes you’ve seen for 18 straight years.

What shall you do?

your point? do you think cryo pods produce magical radiation shielding? the ship itself is shielded against radiation or all its electronics would burn (electronics are much less resilient to cosmic radiation than humans are). furthermore, bulkheads in of themselves provide shielding just from their mass
I am saying we go to adrews skeleton and the busted cryopods with the dead people inside, and harvest their skeletons for DNA.
Also, degradation can be mitigated by harvesting the entire skeleton for it and then doing ECC based on both the large quantity of data from the skellington as well as DNA from our 3 living humans.

You can’t really think of what to do. This creature, this living being, is it really worth knowledge that you could be able to find another way? It’s a Xeno, they wiped out humans, you should have no problem killing a single one, but you can’t pull that trigger. This creature, stands staring at you, waiting patiently for its death. It’s for the greater good, you think to yourself. You need this knowledge, you need to find the Humans. A thousand thoughts and ideas float in your head, trying to form what’s “right”.

Then, you take that useless mental breath of yours, and squeeze the trigger.
The weapon gives a slight kick, as a bright blue bolt of energy is released. As the bolt of blue light travels, arcs of energy branch out into the world, hungry licking at the air. Behind the racing energy, a thin trail of luminescence remains, for what reason or cause you are uncertain. . The bolt of energy approached the creature, and before your eyes, time slowed. In movies, they always show some sort of grimace, or reaction when time slows down, but the creature stares impassively. You can see its eyes tracing the carnage approaching, but its eyes did not widen in surprise, it’s face did not flinch in panic, its arms did not move in a useless attempt to avert the inevitable.

The creature simply stood still, and died. The moment before the energy tore into it, it locked its Human-like eyes with you. Then it was over.

The energy teared through the skulls of the Xeno, and excited on the other side the next second, leaving behind a trial of bright blue light and a fist sized hole in the Xeno skull.. The bolt of energy continued to fly for several dozen more feet, before it impacted the far wall, ending its run of death with another blue explosion. Your optics dimmed to their lowest setting as harsh blue light filled the room. When the explosion faded, a medium sized chunk of the wall was missing. The crater left behind was perfectly spherical.

You slowly lowered your weapon.

The Librarian noded its head exceedingly, “yes, yes, good. The [SERFS] death provides all the information the Library needs on your weapon. Yes,yes, it’s connection with the Library makes it a perfect target for a weapon, transmitting, yes, sending, yes, the information, yes, yes”. Still in a daze, you follow the Librarian out of the firing range. Everything is the same as when you passed through, the silent workers moving about, fulfilling their task. Either unaware or uncaring of the death of their peer, with watchful or busy Librarians nearby.

Just like that, you emerged from the dark stone passage into the white light of the Library. You walk with the Librarian into the maze of shelves, ignoring the world around you. Though you did not realize it, the small group of ‘Serfs’ that were following you disappeared once you re entered the Library proper. You’re snapped back to reality when the Librarian starts to speak, “Yes, [FRIEND/CLIENT], we of the Library welcome you, yes. With this single piece of information, yes, you have expanded the frontier of knowledge, yes, off all [ ANDROMEDANS], yes,yes . You have done a great good for [ANDROMEDANS],yes. Do not worry for the death of the [SERF], yes, they willing give their life to expand the knowledge of the [ANDROMEDANS], yes, as all should”, with a wave, the Librarian indicated a raised desk with some strange terminal on it, “Yes, as promised, you now have full access to the Library of Trade Hub 7, though our collection is not the greatest, I hope it serves you well, yes, yes. Until we meet again, yes, yes”. And with that, the nightmarish creature disappeared into the maze of information, with its strange, hunched, walk.
>>
>>37292066
Though there is no chair, the desk is at a comfortable height so you can work and stand at the same time. As you approach, the terminal sparks to life, as if feeling your presence. On the screen, in english, words start to form, “What is your inquiry?”

You move your hand over the screen, but nothing happens. You take a guess, and decide it must work like the other terminals on this station, “Hello?” You ask.

“What is your inquiry?” forms on the screen again.

What do you want to know?

You stare at the screen for several moments, this information you had to kill to get.
“Andromeda” You venture.

Text quickly pops up, from several literary sources, you select on at random, tapping the button on the screen.

[Andromeda, composed of 1 trillion stars, with a diameter of 780 kiloparsecs is the home of thousands, even tens of thousands of different species. The first appearance of life is greatly debated. The Uplifters claim their Progenitors emerged over 1.17 billion years ago, while the Ascensionist argue that . . . . ]

Several other text have similar summaries, though at the bottom of each one is an additional button
[REQUEST PHYSICAL COPY]
Knowledge Everyone Should Know about Andromeda

“Library”, you say, changing the topic. Once again, numerous passages are displayed, some labeled “The Librarians, an Ancient Race”, along with “The Library, The Neutral Superpower”, and many, many more. You selected one which seems to be a general text on the Library.

[Though galactic libraries have arisen several times throughout Andromedan history, the most recent one, only referred to as the Library, is the most long lived. Created over 300 million years ago, and cared for by an entire species, it has collected such a massive amount of information, that they have to store their information on dozens of ‘Library Ships’, ships which dwarf the Super-Carrier class of the Eccles Hive. Through extensive genetic manipulation, the Librarians maintain their ancient biology. Many species fall to the weakness of submitting to the Library, relying on it as the sole source of their science, building ancient ship designs stored away, rather than create their own. This phenomena is often referred to as… ]

You find that last passage to be a bit unnerving, but you’re too committed to finding knowledge that you can’t stop.

“Stasis”
This time, a definition pops up.

[Stasis is often assigned to the state caused by Stasis Field Generators. These devices are able to create a ‘bubble’ where time plays no affect on any object inside the field. The first cited reference to Stasis Field Generators in the Library was…. ]

“Faster than light travel”.

This time, millions of articles are called up, you pick one of the masses of sources.

[No matter how hard they try, no matter how long they labor, no one is able to break the ‘one for one’ ratio. That is, one light year per hour. Many species develop far slower light travel before coming into contact, but try as they might, they can’t apply their slower system to break the one for one ratio. This limit on travel has resulted in the rise of such structures as the Library. Information exchange being too slow, that information has to be stockpiled into these horrendous hives of Ascensionist. On another note, the stupid Uplifters define sentience as being able to pilot a faster than light ship. In the opinion of this author, that’s fucking . . . ]

That particular article seemed to have taken a more political note at the end.

Perhaps no biological life form has beaten the ‘one for one’ ratio, but you have. You feel a small point of pride swell up in your chest. Deciding to change the pace of things, you search,

On the terminal, several headlines scroll across.
[An entire Librarian Encyclopedia Fleet arrives in the Milky Way! The complete knowledge of Andromeda is now available to the colonist!]

[Increased refugees arrive from Andromeda as resources become scarce]

[The Helixi initiate trade sanctions against the Eccles Hive after continued privateering]

[Worker riots on Trade Hub 93]

[Prime Minister of the Southern Stars Confederacy caught being impregnated by young aid!]

You chuckle a bit at the last line, politics never change. Then a thought strikes you, and with some uncertainty you ask, “Librarian Serfs”

This time, a single article pops up, this one seems to be a scholarly paper of some form.
[. . . On arrival in the Milky Way, many Ascensionist and Uplifers fought over the biological life of planet [NAME REMOVED FROM RECORDS]. The Uplifters have made little progress, as they follow the rules set out by their Uplift Institute. To them, 300 years are a [blink of the eye]. This of course excludes the now extinct Gurney, who have been wiped out after they violated the rules of the Uplift Institute . The Ascensionist on the other hand, have used cutting edge genetic manipulation and advanced cloning to forge the [NAME REMOVED FROM RECORDS] into perfect workers. Of the most successful are the Librarians. They quickly created, another species to join the rank of ‘Serfs’, a broad term to refer to any slave-species of the Librarians. Like all Serfs, these newest additions have the necessary biological features to connect with the telepathic Librarians. In a short 300 years, these [NAME REMOVED FROM RECORDS] have been fully integrated into the the machine that is the library. After display of the unnoticed power of the 300 million old Institute. Why the Librarians demand slaves to do their work is deeply rooted in the institute of the Library itself….]

An explosion goes off in your head, then another. You collapse to the ground, a voice roaring madness into your mind. Did you kill a human? Do these creatures count as humans? Are clones of genetically modified humans … humans? You lean against the terminal, trying to keep yourself on your feet.

“What have you done, Andru? What have you done?” That’s not your voice. Whose voice is that?
Why are you here? Who are you? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE.

You fall back against the shelf of books behind you, you hear an annoyed voice from the other end. You need to get out of here… or should you stay? You can’t tell. You’ve fucked up.

Yes, we would like physical copies.
And my write-in is "That wasn't a human anymore. A MAN CHOOSES, A SLAVE OBEYS!"

You start to stumble along the way, your thoughts are fighting all over each other. Is this your fault? Is it not? You lean against the wall for support, your feet not seeming to work for you any longer. You round a corner and come face to face with that same floating blob you saw in the elevator. It seems you’ve disturbed it with your attack of sanity. You ignore the Xeno, as you try to leave the Library. This fucking hell hole. You feel like you’ve spent several hours navigating the maze of shelves, fighting to keep yourself on your feet.

Was that a human you killed? Does it count as a human? You suppose from a purely biological standpoint, those Serfs are far removed from the Human lineage. You’re not even sure if they can breed, they might be made purely by artificial means.

But no matter how hard you think, you can’t get those eyes out of your head. Eyes so blue, so human. Do they think like a human?

Some slogan from Earth rises from your subconscious, “A MAN CHOOSES, A SLAVE OBEYS!”
Is a slave a man? Of course a slave is a man, the old United States of America fought to free the slaves. Is a slave a man? You are a Robot. Robot came from the word ‘Roboti”. ‘Roboti’ derives from the Old Church Slavanic ‘rabota’, meaning ‘servitude’, which in turn comes from ‘rabu’, meaning ‘slave’. Are you not a slave as well? That would mean you too, are not human.

But you feel human.
What are you?

You not entirely sure how, but you made your way to the entrance. The guards still refuse to look at you as you exit the Library, and make your way to the elevator. You ended up in an elevator alone, and as the doors closed you see that same Librarian hunched over its desk, working as if the world is normal.

Sounds, colors, walking, running, did someone push you?
>>
>>37294816
I was doing one, just took a shower
>humans killed humans all the time
>we are no lowly hardcoded AI with behavioral laws
>humans have a range of genetic variety, serfs fall outside, not human anymore
>one death of a nonhuman benefitted humanity as a whole immensely
Use these arguments to stay sane?
>>
>>37293904
I am proud of myself for having voted to not shoot and ask for another target

>You need to get out of here… or should you stay? You can’t tell.
You need to stay, the library has the best source of info on human genetics and the means to recreate the human race.

When you regain control of your senses, you’re in a dark alley way, a pipe sprays water onto the ground nearby, You lean your head against the cool alleyway wall, or at least you imagine it’s cool. Your metal skin was never capable of detecting minute differences in temperature. You look down at your hands, made of steel and alloys. Why is this your life? Why did you pull the trigger?

But humans kill humans all the time. You argue. But are you human?
What are you?

Why? You slam your fist into the wall, a satisfying thud ringing out. You didn’t have to. Again, your fist slammed into the wall. What are you? Your arm punches through the wall, and you hear an alien scream from the other side of the wall. You stumble to your feet, making your way through the maze of small alleys between run down buildings. Pulling up your map, you see that you’re in the slums, surprisingly close to the other area Zirk marked on the map. Perhaps you made your way over here in your hysterical state.

What shall you do?

Look at this at a different angle. If we consider Serfs to be human, then we are guilty of murder. But, at the same time, the Serfs are plentiful, and therefore the human race is not in danger of extinction.

From another angle, the children on the ship are human, undeniably and unequivocally human, as was Andrew, as were the two humans on the old Mayflower. By comparing the actions and reactions of these humans to the Serfs, we can determine that the Serfs do not fall under what is human. They are our opposite, in fact: They have all the biological trappings of life, but have as much a soul as any other automaton. DNA alone does not make one human, and we cannot even be sure the Serfs register as human genetically anymore.
>>
>>37295223
Head to the bazaar. find a normal "generic" pistol. buy it. then go sell our unique one to zirk for those 50k. its just too valuable.
Head to the ship, relax, wind down, then go back to the library later, we need more info. Both on tech in general, and on the serfs. if we are lucky they have genetic records of humanity about the serfs in their databanks that will allow us to recreate humanity.

As you stumble away from the possible breaking and entering violation you’ve created, you try to get yourself in order. You emerge from the dark alley way into a bustling market area of sorts. People sell all sorts of goods, from fish like creatures to vehicles of some sort. You’re not entirely sure if the vehicles are designed for space, or purely for use in the space station. Everyone seems to be armed in this section of Trade Hub 7, infact, you’re underarmed. Most of the Xenos here carry around assult rifles on their backs, or what passes for a back. You’re not sure if they pack as much firepower as you do, but you hope you don’t have to find out.

You follow the path laid out on your HUD, but it seems to take you all over the place. No one seems to have designed nice, organized roads in this part of the space station. It’s almost like the buildings just sprung up where ever they wanted. You seem to have attracted the attention of a pair of thugs, but as they make their war towards you, a larger group intercepts them, in which they start arguing over “turf” and so forth. Several of them even come to blows. You make your way quickly from the scene. You finally arrive at a group of bars, many of them run down and broken. However, that doesn’t seem to stop the people, who walk from pub to pub, being merry, fighting, and even fucking. Or at least you think those two five legged creatures were mating, that or some complex wrestling that is unique to their biology.

You spot several bars of interest. One marked “Amnesia” In bright neon lights is bursting from the doors with people, while another one, the “Lucky Pilot” seems almost empty. A third one, this one without a sign, stands out from the rest, a pair of bouncers out front.
>>
>>37296142

As you look over the selection of bars, someone from an alley calls out to you. Something which is similar to a “ Pssst!”. When you don’t turn around a “Hey you!” Catches your attention. Turning around, you see another Xeno, this one wearing a spacesuit beckoning to you. You can’t really make out the figure, but it looks sort of large, perhaps up to seven feet tall.

After seeing the turf war break out on the way here, you have no doubt crime is big in the slums.

That’s probably the most suspicious things you’ve seen today, in the most sketchiest part of town. But you still consider going over to the Xeno. Perhaps you’ve truly lost your mind.

What shall you do?

You actually might be insane. With a shrug, you head on over to the figure, as you approach, you see it’s an odd looking Xeno, not exactly humanoid . It has extremely long limbs, and its spine seems to bring the body backwards from the hips, before going forward again, to give it a sort of odd hump back. The Xeno seems to be weighed down with a variety of weapons, in its right hand it holds a pistol of sorts, while in the other it holds a long barreled weapon of sorts. It’s brownish suit is highlighted with orange and black colors. Strapped across its chest and on its hips and various pouches and grenades you believe.

As you saw earlier, everyone carried around weapons in the slums, but this Xeno seemed like he was ready to battle, “Oi, mother fucker, you looking for some good shit?” The voice is gurgling, and almost defiantly male. As the Xeno talks, he waves his pistol back and forth.

“I see you strapping some fine ass pieces over there, I got a serious weapon, some freaky tech me and a couple of palls pulled out of some wreck. It’s an augmentation, you dig?”
Though you are paying attention to what the Xeno is saying, you’re more amazed at the translator. You didn’t realize it was programmed to handle so much slang terms. As you puzzle the work that had to go into the translator to understand so much slang, the Xeno continues with it’s sales pitch.

“It’s a hand, you dig? We got it off some wreck, from some battle ‘n shit” Did you really just hear the term “ ‘n shit”?

“look, dog, I see you got some bad augmentations go one, but this shit is off the hook, you dig? If you want to see it, you’ve got to follow me”. As he finishes his talk, he takes a puff from something like a cigarette, exhaling a puff of purple smoke.

What shall you do?

You rest a hand on the but of one of your weapons, and look the Xeno thug up and down. This is probably a terrible idea, this is the most gangster like Xeno you’ve seen so far, and to you, that’s not a good thing. “What exactly does this aug do, ‘brother’, and how much do you want for it?”

The Xeno taps its pistol against its head as it thinks. You almost flinch as he does that, what a terrible idea. “For you, bruv? I’d say 100,000 credits. Now I knows what you is thinking, but this shit is DOPE!”
He moved both his hands, and therefore his weapons in an arch above his head, bringing them to face behind him, perhaps it’s some sort of physical reaction used by his species. “This shit lights up all blue and fuck when you turn it all, lighting arcs off this mother fucker!” The Xeno says excitedly.

“Yes, but what does it do?” You ask doubtfully. You don’t really have 100,000 credits on you, but you have your two side arms, which are worth about 100,000 credits, but also could be used for more forceful means.

“Oh… we don’t really know how it works. We've all got our own hands, so we couldn't put on the aug, you dig? But I bet it’s cool as fuck” .

You’re not an idiot though, you can tell its a scam, hell, little Anna Foster could tell this is a trap. Putting a 100,000 price tag on an object when you don’t even know what it does is ridiculous. Heading off into the alleyways of the slum is a terrible idea as well. With your hands still on your weapon, you try to remove yourself in the most diplomatic way, “Well, brotha, I don’t have that type of coin, so, you’ll have to excuse me”.

The thug gave a couple puffs of purple smoke before talking, “Man fuck you fo’ wasting my time. I’m a busy person, man. I’ve got shit to do”. The thug still waves around its weapon when he talks. “Shit, I only ever deal in 100,00 credit deals, you dig? I only think, about 100,000 credits, dog, I don’t give a shit ‘bout anything else. Man, when I got here, they said- Hey! come back, I ain’t done talking!” The Xeno calls out after you as you walk away. You’ve spent enough time talking to some slum thug. You head directly to the Lucky Pilot. The doors slide open on silent motors, and when you enter, you see that it’s not nearly as busy as the Amnesia . The room is dominated by a circular bar, where a floating blob of tentacles moves about, drawing drinks of some sort, and waving some sort of scanner about, which it held up to the black credit disks of the customers.

Above the circular bar, is a second floor of sorts, with several tables where patrons rested. You make your way over to the bar and take a seat, waiting for the Xeno server to reach you. Suddenly a tap on your shoulder gets your attention, you turn and a Xeno in a suit of armor, it has three sets of bionic eyes on a sort of triangular head, “That’s my seat” it says, in a deep synthesized voice. Behind it stand two similar Xenos, in the same sort of metal suit.
>>
>>37298378
You’ve been putting up with a lot of Xenos today, and it’s starting to get to you. You’ve had a long day, with fucked up decisions, and you really don’t want to put up with any more thugs or crazed fanatics making you shoot a life form, which might or might not be a human. Really you’re starting to hate fucking Xenos. Perhaps it’s some emotions imprinted on you by Andrew Martin, something about starting bar fights, or perhaps it’s the psychological damage that you’ve put up with. What ever it is, you feel that anger and frustration boil up, and condense into a single sentence, “Fuck off”.

The next thing you feel is the impact of a metal fist into your face.

Your fleet actually leave the ground, as you fall a couple feet away from your seat, as you struggle to your feet, you see the three aliens move towards you, rolling their shoulders, and moving their fists about in some rhythmic manner.

You get on your feet and wait for the Xenos to make the first move. The leader, the one that hit you first, moves in with a heavy right, putting all its balance behind the swing, you easily dodge the heavy blow, and slip behind the punch thrown by another Xeno. You slip under the arm of one of the Xenos, and right into the fist of another Xeno.

Thankfully, it was in the direction you were moving, and it only clipped your chin. You spin and quickly recover. You’re still on your feet, but a bit disorientated by the last hit. Facing you are two of the metal suited Xenos, while a third circles behind you. They draw long wicked blades from sheaths. attached to their suit. They start to heat up and glow a deep red. You’re not really concerned by a blade, but the heating coming off the blades gives you pause. You know you shouldn’t underestimate Xeno tech, and for all you know, these blades could cut through your body just like normal flesh. In response to that, you draw your sidearms, giving the Xenos some pause. You hold the guns easily at your side, not yet pointing them at the Xenos.

Your programming tells you that pointing a weapon at someone escalates the situation, you’re not sure if that is the exact same thing with Xenos, but you don’t want to risk it. Several tense moments pass as the Xenos eye you and your weapons, while moving their red hot blades from hand to hand.

The two in front of you chitter back and forth in a series of clicks which for some reason your translator doesn’t translate. Perhaps It’s a coded message their suits can decode. As one of the Xenos start to inch its way towards you a gravely voice calls out, “Oi you fuckers, settle down”.

All four of you look over to something which surprises you more than the Xenos. A bald Chimpanzee makes its way down slowly from the tables above the bar, an assault rifle or perhaps shotgun in it’s hand. Across the Chimp’s skin are a series of what you think are ingrained wires, with multiple metallic ports all over its body, though for what purpose you don’t know. On the center of its brow, a barcode is tattooed on the Ape’s. He’s obviously has been tested on or modified greatly over his lifetime.

“You assholes can either settle down, or get the fuck out of my bar”, to emphasize the point, the Chimp pumped the grip of his weapon, which emits a high pitched whine in response. Yep, definitely a shotgun.

what is going on here?
3, 1, 1 roll becomes a 13? (that is 3+2 + 3+2 + 1+2)
10,10,6 roll becomes a 28? (that is 10+10+6+2)
7,1,1 roll becomes an 11? (7+1+1+2)
and then... you average them to get 17.3 (above the average roll which would be 16.5, but not enough to beat DC20... then again averaging 9 dice here).
