Reality assembles itself around you piece by piece; as if a puzzle coming together to form a greater whole. Gone is the hidden room in the attic of a decrepit mansion, and gone is the fat tomcat which has been following you since you encountered it. Those familiar sights have been replaced by a world tinted red and a scaled beast which you could only vaguely describe as 'cat-like'.

The walls have vanished, you stand upon a thin pillar in a sea of red glass. A breeze rolls across the plains carrying with it the scents of sulfur and something else unidentifiable. To your eye the world around you appears as though an undulating mass of blood. You're seated in a stone chair, directly across from the creature you assume is your host.

It sits at ease, claws digging furrows into the stone beneath. It is a massive creature, six feet tall even rested on its haunches. A red mane flares out about its neck, poking through its leathery hide. Five beady yellow eyes stare at you with an uncomfortable intensity, their alien pupils shifting inhumanly in the light. The creature has no lips, its massive teeth instead left barred in a permanent snarl. Everything about the animal screams of barbarism.

Much to your surprise, it speaks first.

“I have brought you here so that we might discuss the leasing of my home.” Its voice is low and rumbling, it seems to fill the space around it. It reminds you of the way that strange cat purred. “I have deemed you agreeable, but there's still the matter of payment.”

Its speech is eloquent and polite, its tone formal. You'd say you were surprised but to be perfectly honest this isn't your first time dealing with spirits. You expected nothing less, really. You'd probably be more shocked if you wandered into an abandoned mansion and didn't come across some sort of possibly malevolent spirit. Though this is the first spirit you've come across that was quite so animalistic; in your experience they prefer a humanoid countenance.

It seems to be a combination of bird, lizard, and cat.

This, play hard to sell this like renting an apartment

>>37265390
Of course, i mean, this place is actually rather torn up, run down, full of holes, drafty, bad neighborhood, smells like fish, the sea is loud.

Also, we should ask about the last tenants.

Lets have the spirit, tell us what it can offer.

We can say something like, even if he accepts us. And we give him, what he wants, we will still have to go to go get the deed it self. or w.e other legal troubles, to own the house. Outside of our deal with him.

You stare at the spirit for a short while, absorbing what it is the creature proposes. It's offering to sell, or rather lease, you its home. You wonder how that will go over with the bank that actually owns the building, and how the headquarters of a defunct merchant's guild came to be inhabited by a fairly powerful spirit. Regardless, you're interested.

“Very well, name your price and the benefits this place offers. I'm at the very least open to negotiation.” You cross your legs casually and steeple your fingers, making yourself comfortable in the stone chair you've been provided. To all the world you appear perfectly at ease.

The spirit's voice rumbles forth, the pillar beneath shaking subtly with each word. “I will allow you and yours free use of the facilities. That means the libraries, the rooms, this observatory, and the sea caves below. In addition to everything you find in them, be it magical or mundane. In exchange I require you to fulfill for me a task. Build a shrine in my honor at the entrance to the manse, and others wherever you travel. I will teach you the words you must inscribe upon their surface. Through this you will grow my power, and as my loyal servant yours as well.”

You consider the offer for a short while before speaking. “It seems a touch one-sided. I get a home, not even a very nice home, and a handful of magical artifacts. Meanwhile, you got dozens of shrines and untold power. You're going to need to make a better offer spirit, because at the end of the day it is you who needs me. Not the other way around.”

>>
>>37265661
I know, I'm not retarded.
If you think dragon=chicken+lizard, then why mention the chicken separately?
>>
The spirit growls low in its throat, digging its claws into the stone beneath it. “It is not just a handful of tawdry knick-knacks and a run down glorified shack I offer. Knowledge of the language spoken by the gods, the power to wield this knowledge safely, and my protection from other spirits which would kill you for possessing that knowledge. Are these not what you mortals drive yourselves mad for? Are these not what wars are waged over? I give them to you served upon a silver platter, and all you must do is be humble. You should be grateful.”

I am willing to take the deal. And try and power up this spirit. And get it's protection.
But We need more power here and now.
Along with the increase to our enchanting skills.
I say we ask, for another boon.
Say, a unique characteristic it can offer us.
And we shall try and improve upon this spirit where we see fit.
Not Everywhere like it wants.
>>
>>37265692
>Knowledge of the language spoken by the gods, the power to wield this knowledge safely, and my protection from other spirits which would kill you for possessing that knowledge.

I'll write for clarification, and then we'll see if any votes change-up.
>>
>>37265885
Eh, I was perfectly fine with just enchanting the living daylights out of the carriage and living it it/ getting a normal house in El Amin for when we're here.

It's highly unlikely that we'll spend enough time here to benefit from the books and other stuff in this building that much.
>>
>>37265920
Why he say spoken then? Unless he being a faggot and trying to bait us.
But he seems like a straight forward kind of cat
>>
>>37265884
I agree.
At the least, we need to find out what else the spirit is willing to offer.
More questions like, what happens if we become it's servant.
While under it protection, are there others who would harm us for being under it protection?
What special abilities would arise from become it's personal servant.
>>
>>37265892
>>37265844
You niggas will really want to not go to this library that is world better than most places and will likely have any book we would need, like info about this artifact we want or routes/maps of the area.
>>
>>37265942
That, and we already have some ideas on how to get new runes without relying on deals with spirits.
>>
>>37265885

Its a retarded, its a pretty nice place if you think about it. Still I am not sure if we need a base but the knowledge and objects it comes with is enough to make it a good deal.
>>
>>37265952
Runes are the written language of the gods.
They're the alphabet of the language.
The language spoken by them.
Spoken isn't necessarily literal in this case.
>>
>>37265952
It's just what Spirits call the runic script, the language of or spoken by the gods. I think I've referred to it that way before.

>>
>>37265941
clarification, with some implications that we already know the language of the gods.

ALSO GUYS.
This is a spirit. He can transfer thoughts into our head. IN THE FUCKING LEAST. if we take any deal, I don't want to search this fucking house for usefull shit.
I want it to transfer his knowledge of the items in his/our possession. Thats not game killing. But it saves us the time of finding out what does what. I hate trying to ind out what shit does.
This fucker knows. Even if he doesn't know everything in this house. he should know about a few of the more "useful toys" he has laying about.
>>
Just one thing to remember: The artifact in the Pa'vala might sever our connection to this cat spirit as well. So if we take the deal, we musn't forget take the valuable stuff from the house with us. Best outcome would be we get the stuff without the servant stuff.
>>
>>37266034
Huh.

So when that void messenger was going "you will kill the shah in x time" was he actually changing miks soul to ensure that he would? IE, the reality of his soul being obligated to do it.
>>
>>37266052
No thanks, I don't like taking shortcuts, and I don't want another case of "hurr, I can enchant, but I don't actually know what I'm doing, and can't teach or explain it" like with Varvar's spirit.
>>
>>37266073
I wouldn't mind becomeing his servant. And becoming more powerfull with him. If things go our way, where we can choose where. And have no 100% crazy obligations. Like eating a live baby whole every full moon.
Like in soma's other quest
>>
>>37266073
>Pa'vala might sever our connection to this cat spirit as well

>"hurr, I can enchant, but I don't actually know what I'm doing, and can't teach or explain it"
where are you pulling this out of your ass from?
We know exactly what we're doing.
We've never tried to teach it to anyone.
We were taught by the spirit exactly how to do it. I am sure we could teach it. But we haven't because we've gotten some notion, that it isn't "right" for us to even use. much less give away.
or get smited by the gods again.

>>
You hold out your hands, begging pause. “Wait a moment, I have some questions.” You creature inclines its head in what you assume is a nod, so you go on. “What do you mean by 'servant'? What sort of duties will being your 'servant' entail? What sort of protection can you offer me? What's your name, spirit?”

The spirit lets out a low, rumbling growl as you conclude your questions. It thinks for a time before eventually its voice rumbles forth. “I am Mahana Atma'agaprthvi. That name will mean nothing to you, as a pitiable mortal. However, among my own kind it marks me as belonging to the highest circle of spirits.” You find that odd, it doesn't feel particularly powerful. It's not like that water spirit you met beneath the temple, or that messenger you see sometimes in dreams.

As for the protection I offer, as the servant of one of the highest spirits none of those in the lower circles will be able to accost you, even if directly ordered to do so. My mark will prevent them from doing so.” So you'll need to be marked, you don't like the sound of that. This is also the first you've heard of spirit tiers or circles at all. Also, what about higher ranked spirits? They can simply attack you with impunity?

“I'll expect you to spread my influence across the land by building shrines in my honor, and offering regular sacrifices to me upon auspicious dates. Should I ever require a task completed, it will be you I call upon. Later, when I have gathered to me the worshipers I rightfully deserve, you will be granted a position of power as the first of my followers.” So you'll need to join a cult, and blaspheme the gods in the process. You don't like the sound of that.

Actually it said all outside influence so that could mean the deals we did is also part of it.
>>
You weigh your options for a time, before deciding eventually to ask another question. “What sort of boons will I gain as your servant, besides your protection?”

The spirit growls louder than it has thus far, you get the sense it's either eager or impatient, perhaps both. “My mark will bestow upon you the ability to sense spirits as well as commune with many lower spirits mentally. In addition to binding you to my will and extending the protection I'm afforded to you.”

In the end you have to say no. “I'm sorry, but you seem to have made a mistake. You see, I'm not some cheap hooker wandering in off the street. I'll need a little more incentive before I let you fuck me.” You deliver the line with a straight face, but before you can carry on a roar tears through the air. The ground quakes, a chunk of stone slides off the side of the pillar and falls to the plains below. You half expect the beast to lunge at you, but it makes no move. It merely pushes itself to its feet and begins to pace across the top of the pillar.

“The arrogance!” Its voice pounds against your ears, were you in your own world you've no doubt he would've deafened you. “A hundred years I have been trapped here, a hundred years! Yet you have to gall to refuse me even here! I could've killed you the moment you stepped through the doors. I should have killed you!”

You find it all rather childish, if you're being honest. “If you're done with your temper tantrum, I have a counter offer. We can still make a deal to our mutual benefit.” The spirit, you suppose you could call it Mahana, sits down moodily on its haunches, glaring at you from the other end of the stone pillar. It nods, and you launch into your speech.

“What I propose is thus: I will build a shrine at the entrance to that mansion in your honor and perform another task of your choosing, a simple task.” You stress the 'simple' aspect. “In return I want the rights to use this building and its facilities, and everything in them, as I so please. I also wish to receive your knowledge of enchanting for my own use. I already know the rest; you are not the first spirit I've ever dealt with.”

The spirit narrows its five strange eyes at you for a moment, before shaking its head. “I will not grant you the sum of my knowledge for but a single shrine. You would have no reason to construct more in my honor. For each shrine you build, I will grant you some little knowledge. However, I will not accept just any shrine you toss up haphazardly in the middle of nowhere. They must be placed in areas of great spiritual power, where the veil has been torn or weakened. As for the rest I can agree, but without my mark you will have neither my protection nor my blessing. I will name my task when the deal is agreed to.”

Some I WAS IN THE SHOWER. And an idea struck me for a write in.

"As I said before you're not my first dealing an A spirit. Infact, Take a look into who I hold in my possession * Have Ricky present him self, or let him self be known via signiture move or something.* I know he is infact, high on the ladder of these circles of yours. And he is under my command. With but a command I would have him shred you. For your stupid threats at my life. Your old king, would likely not even waste his time, and have one of his weaker minnions destroy you and your circle."
or something like that, that includes Ricky.
This is a good base for a write-in

You channel a touch of vys to sharpen your mental faculties, but find it strangely difficult. Like your reserves are being smothered by a thick blanket. Fortunately you're skilled enough to work around it. “You can't honestly expect me to agree to perform some unnamed task that you deem 'minor'. I want to know what you have in mind before I agree to anything. For all I know you're going to ask me to run halfway across the world. I already have enough on my plate as is.”

The spirit glares at you, pulling itself up to its full height and looking as regal as a monstrous combination of a dragon and a lion can look. Which, you must admit, is quite regal. “More likely you merely intend to refuse and then steal the artifact I ask for so that you may have it yourself. What I ask is that you retrieve something for me from the magical wellspring to the northwest. I believe it corresponds to the 'Grand Library' in your world. I refuse to name the object until you agree to my terms.”

You scoff. “You're going to ask me to steal from the Grand Library? That's hardly a simple task! There are wards in place, some of the few left in existence, to prevent malcontents from ever getting close to the valuable artifacts held within! That isn't even mentioning the guards standing watch, and the innumerable Vatis contained within! You're asking me to commit suicide over some glorified errand!”

You shake your head firmly. “No no, Spirit. If that's your request you're going to need to make a better offer. What other boons can you bestow? What other gifts can you give? Before you offer, you should know I'm not without protection from those spirits who would kill me for my knowledge.”

As you say this, you urge a tentacle from your cloak. It slides down your arm, wrapping itself around your hand and squeezing lightly. You can barely feel it, it's neither cold nor warm. Not wet or dry. There is only pressure, nothing else. It's a strange sensation. However, you start to notice something concerning. Around the tentacle, reality seems to fray. You catch glimpses of black, or a distortion in mid-air.

The spirit leaps to its feet and begins to pace back and forth like a caged animal. “Put that away, do you wish to kill us both?! The Progenitors are anathema to this reality!”

You have the tentacle slide back into your cloak, and reality reasserts itself. The spirit seats itself once more, taking a moment to settle itself. It seems far more wary, now that it knows what it is your cloak contains. “Very well, mortal. Very well. In exchange for the object I desire, I will shape an object form my being which you might use to further your own goals. I could offer you a shield, a dagger, a saber, or a vest.”

Blowing up Namek: They took us prisoner and were a dictatorship.
Killing Kadir: he deserved it for his shitty personality and we even undid the killing

On top of our vast list of experiments to try, books to read, knowledge and magical items to meditate on, we have a quest for ensuring THE QUEST ITSELF continues (by removing the entity), a quest for a gem from a warlord, and a quest for an elaudian formula, a quest for killing a companions husband, and this.

The time:post:content ratio is slim pickings for getting anything done, and so anons who want to complain a little about it are to be expected.

You uncross your legs, leaning forward to bring yourself closer to the spirit creature. “You ask the impossible of me, spirit. You asked the right man. I'll perform your task. However, in exchange I ask knowledge. More than the paltry tidbits of disparate information you offer. I want to know all that you do of spirits, and the mechanics of enchanting. Offer me any less, and you may as well wallow here in misery for the next hundred years as well.”

You're not sure, but you want to say that the spirit shrinks back away from you. It may have simply been a trick of the light, as the next moment it appears as exactly as it did before. “Very well, mortal. I agree to your terms. The item I ask that you retrieve is a key. It will appear to you similar to a blade, except far too small to be of any use as such. The cross guard will be attached only by a thin string of metal, and a gem will be embedded in the hilt. It should be on display. Bring this to me and use it to unlock the tome in the library. Then, after you have erected the shrine, you may consider this place and all within it yours and yours alone.”
>Side-Quest Added:
>Steal the key from Grand Library of El-Amin. Don't get caught!

There's a flash, and you awaken with a start on the floor of the secret room. You lie exactly where you feinted, the orb that knocked you unconscious sitting innocently on its stand atop the table at the rear of the room. Untold knick knacks, tools, and tomes lay scattered about, but the cat is nowhere to be found. Your head is throbbing, foreign knowledge slowly twisting itself into comprehensible shape.

The highest spirits are the gods. It is they who were the original creators of the universe. They tore the shapes of the planets, the stars, and the creatures which inhabit all of creation from their very being. However, their first and most beloved creations were called Children, as they're made of that which was torn directly from the gods. Their creations are in turn called Ancients, and their creations Elders. After that come the Progenitors, and it is from the Progenitors that true Spirits were born.

Spirits are in turn shaped into a number of circles. There are the Sarvocca, at the very top of the pyramid. These are the oldest of spirits, many of whom have children of their own. Beneath them are the Mahana, the second most powerful. Many Mahana are free agents with a number of mortal worshipers or slaves. Beneath the Mahana are the Thora. They are the middle children, neither old nor young and correspondingly weaker than their older and more powerful betters. Most Thora are servants to other, more powerful spirits. Finally the lowest spirits are the Atma, and the Kami. Neither are worthy of notice.

Spirits are creatures which reside on the same plane as the intelligent races; however, they are composed solely of that which the gods are made of. The creatures which walk the earth have only a divine core. The rest of their bodies are composed instead of physical materials, they are shaped of stone and clay just as their creations are in turn. Thus, their bodies may die but that which makes them divine may survive.

>Basic runes deal with something tangible. Water, fire, stone, bird, tree, et cetera. Advanced runes deal with things more abstract as well as actions. So create, heat, destroy, shield, et cetera are all advanced runes. Complex runes are universal constants and complex concepts. Things like time, gravity, the soul, and consciousness are all advanced runes.

New knowledge?
>>
>>37269692
Yup. So is

>A simple enchantment is that which requires only a central rune and any number of additional runes affect that central rune. A composite enchantment will have a central rune affected by surrounding runes, with those surrounding runes in turn being affected by other runes. It is at the composite level that one is able to develop yes/no logic gates. A nested enchantment requires several central runes affected by several additional runes all affected another, central rune. Thus it is an enchantment within an enchantment.

and

>Two lines drawn across a connection between two runes and joined to a third rune indicate that a rune will only be activated in the presence of something else. If the central rune was fire and the connecting runes were create and self, but create was gated and the gate in turn connected to a water rune, then that rune would light the caster on fire whenever water was poured onto it.
>>
>>37269692
I think that last "advanced" should be "complex" instead.

You make your way out of the room, and through the observatory. You skirt the spiral staircase and instead push past the heavy velvet curtain to find the ladder waiting for you beyond. Carefully, you make your way down the seemingly impossibly tall, rickety wooden ladder to the study. You pointedly ignore your monstrous reflection in the mirror in favor of pushing the door open and jogging down the stairs to the first floor.

You're about to break into a run for the door when you pause at the entryhall, eyeing the long stagnant reflecting pool in the center. Weeds and algae have come to dominate most of the pool, but it should still serve well enough as the focal point of your shrine. You begin to channel Earth and Metal magic, as well as just a touch of nature. You unclog the drains which carry water to and from the pond as well as rerouting and repairing some of the pipes in the walls. You use the stone itself to create two parallel stone columns which are ultimately joined at the top, creating a sort of squared arch.

Unbidden, runes begin to carve themselves into the inside surface of the columns. Water spurts from pipes positioned above them, cascading down the center of the archways and into the pool beneath. The finishing touches are placed as you feel a piece of yourself torn away, almost imperceptibly. The runes flash brightly once, and then settle in. The shrine is completed and reality changed to fit the whim of the spirit which inhabits this place.

Your head throbs as your thoughts are drowned out by alien knowledge, forced upon you by some unseen entity. You stumble, collapsing against a pillar and waiting for the pain to subside. It seems to take an eternity, but eventually it lessens enough for you to open your eyes.

You find the room much as you left it, save for the alterations you made. The runes still glow softly, but it's barely noticeably. You can't understand what they say, but they give you the impression of a name. You feel the warmth of a roaring hearth fire and smell the earthy scents of mud and mulch. It's almost comforting. Regardless, you've little time to dally. You force yourself to your feet and use just a touch of magic to help you ignore the dizziness. It's with unabashed joy that you throw open the doors of the mansion and stride out into the city beyond, glad to be rid of that accursed spirit's overbearing influence.
