Getting into the boat is not the easiest exercise.

At first you thought you could just seat yourself at one end, and stick everyone else in the other- Which had the double issue of stuffing everyone else into one corner, as well as the apparently unforgivable sin of not allowing people to sit on your back.

You'd think that someone had voted for a rousing game of 'let's violate human rights' by the looks on a few faces.

In the end, you managed to crawl into the centre of the boat- Sara sat in the back, and everyone else arrayed themselves around you.
Or on top of you.

Kind of centre.
Jin and Nin have taken their usual spots, Sheszka is in your 'lap', and Lan is sitting on the... prow? Is that the right word? You are not the person to go to for nautical terminology.

You start off rowing- The current is a little slow for your tastes.
It's fairly relaxing, to be honest. Simple physical labour, devoid of adrenaline, giant monsters, worries about sick friends. You need more times like this.

You might be a little bored, though.

>Just row. Down the stream. Nothing gentle about it, though.
>Chat with the resident Moth historian. There's other forest species, right?

HEY.

What color is our blood? I vaguely remember it being blue, but that could be me misremembering.

I ask because I had a half-dream of us doing masonry work and accidentally cracking our hand-chitin while showing off.

I like blue. Exotic but not (too) creepy.

Also Nin will literally never shut up about our blue blood and how extra double Queen it makes us.
>>
>>37245648
Well, eating is easy, just have Jin feed us that lazy bird.
>>
>>37245559
What's the scale of this place? It looks comparable to the UK.
>>
>>37245678
Red.
Unless our spider portions has its own blood system, like that of an insect, in which case its red for the humanoid portion, and everything beneath torso would have to do with hemocyanin, therefore blue blood.
>>
>>37245803
so, all of it's blue then.
Because I am working on the assumption that we aren't literally a human welded to a spider, but are in fact significantly different under-the-hood.
Though, my video game experience teaches me GIANT spiders have green blood.
>>
>>37245744

I would go with red, mostly because the pinkish hue most people have in their skin is due to the oxygenation of hemoglobin near the surface producing a reddish tint. Blue blood would come out as black or grey near the surface, which would make us look like a goth kid. That is, unless we want to accept "because magic" as the reason we look normal.

Hell, I'd prefer glowing red blood at this point, so that it looks like lava when we bleed.
>>
>>37245844

Yes, but take this into consideration. If we have blue blood, then we are born to be rulers by old say-so. This will matter absolutely nothing but it will drive Lyra absolutely insane when Nin catches wind of it.

And I don't know about you, but to me, that will be worth every little hold-up about blood color autism.
>>
>>37245394
>>Just row. Down the stream. Nothing gentle about it, though.
>>Chat with the resident Moth historian. There's other forest species, right?

And as long as we're discussing our preferences I always imagined Lyra having red blood.
>>
>>37245906

Well, blood is technically a dark purple, even blue inside of the veins. That's the reason that the coloration of the veins in the skin is usually a light pinkish blue. I really wonder where the saying originated from, but I'm now amused by the thought that it could be construed as a somewhat backhanded insult that the nobility never fought their own battles.
>>
>>37245833
>Because I am working on the assumption that we aren't literally a human welded to a spider
Which is most likely true, but red is more likely then, since blood cells and hemoglobin work a lot better for transportation within a circulatory-system as huge as Lyra is.

We can still have blue or whatever blood because of fuckin' magic, of course.
>>
>>37245906

Will it be worth it when someone starts making DBZ related jokes? In this case, I guess Lyra would be Piccolo (because of the blood and coming from another world). Sara would be Goku (because spirit bomb). Jin would be Krillin. Not sure who Nin would be, and I guess Sheszka is our Yamcha now.
>>
>>37245993
I don't really see any dragonball paralells but spirit bomb jokes.
>>
Best blood order:

Green followed by blue followed by red.
>>
don't spiders have clear blood?
>>
>>37246207
When deoxygenated, but when it binds oxygen it becomes blue.

You let go of the oars a moment, content to let your little boat drift while you work on other things.

A little rearranging is all it takes to shift Sheszka- curling your front-most legs into something like a hammock, lying her against you and brushing her hair from her face.

An ear twitches in response, and she leans into you, her breath deepening even as a smile spreads on her face.
You'll need to catch something tonight. Probably a bear.
Whether she thinks she's worth it or not, you are absolutely planning to spoil her rotten. At least for a few days.

Your free hand roams the boat till it finds what you're looking for- The ration bag. The soon to be empty ration bag.
Not because you are running out. You're just going to eat all of it. That's all.

Lann watches with something approaching awe as you shovel biscuits and dried meat alike into your mouth. You're probably making those absurd sounds, but there's no stopping you at this point. You haven't eaten in like... Almost a day? Gods, you're hungry.

You have to stop a few times, to wash it all down- The dried food gets stuck in your throat, sticking in your mouth like paste. You wash it all down with water from your shield, making a mess of yourself and anything near you.
Whatever. You'll clean up later.

Your nose wrinkles.
You'll definitely be cleaning up later. A few days of adventure and armour is not a pleasant smell.

While you're not done eating, per say, you are out of food.
So you take up the oars once more, while Lann snickers and shakes her head.

You give her a disparaging look. Really, Lann? You are a giant spider. It takes a lot of food to keep you going. There's no shame in that.
>>
>>37246719
You sail- No. There's no sails, so is it sailing? You give up.
You guide the boat around several twists in the river, powerful strokes of the paddles shooting you forward, towards home.

There's things to distract you from the scenery, at least.
"Nin?"
"My Queen?"

You are fairly certain you can hear the capitalization.

"Stop that. Do you know the other forest races?"
"So soon after such revelations! My lady is unshakeable!"
"I will shake you, little fluffbrains."

The moth giggles, repositioning herself on your skull. She clears her throat- haughtily, if that is possible.
"I shall begin, most honored-"
You sigh.

"Of course, my lady knows of the arachne, the harpies, the moths. And the wendigo, as well!"
"Is it wendigo or wendigos, yes?"
"They can't be bothered to correct us, so I'll call them whatever I like."
You smirk, inclining your head and waiting for her to continue.

"Well, there are the bears, of course."
"No there isn't."
"A tragic story from the start-"
"No."
"-A queen's uncontrollable hunger-"
"No."
"-A sacrifice for the ages!"
"That is not a thing."

"Alright, well, the Snakes are definitely real."
"Snakes?"
"The naga. Or the Lamia."
"There are two of them?"
"No. I can't remember which ones lived in the forest. My utmost apolo-"
"Yes, yes. Does it matter?"

"Never call a lamia a naga. Or a naga a lamia. They are like moths and butterflies."
"I see. Were there butterflies in the forest?"
"Absolutely not! Idiotic rainbow coloured morons and their-"
"Who else, yes?"

"In the forest?"
"Yes."
"I don't know."
"I see. I will need a new historian then, yes."
"My lady! Do not abandon me so swiftly! My dedication! My life!"

Lann has been cackling for at least a mile.

Right so Mothia update.

Mayra laid eggs and they Hatched so Nye is now the proud father of six exceptionally fluffy Spiders much to Mayra Pleasure. The Spiderlings have seem to inherited Mayra fondness for fluff and spend the vast majority of their time clinging to his fluff.

Doctor Love has yet to gain the affection of the Butterfly, but is obviously making improvement as the city guards were only called once in his 3 encounters with her.

Gin's daughter finally evolved, and he threw a massive party at the Damhán manor, the Damhán were not informed prior to this event.

Din accidentally took too much of a new drug he was testing, and currently believes he is a dwarf, because how else do you explain being small hairy and rather rich? This currently has no end in sight.

Tim is currently under investigation from the university he works at for selling drugs to students.

You keep up the rowing.
Maybe it will be a useful skill in the future? Maybe you just don't want to sleep in giantmonsterville.

You ignore the moth wallowing in her fake misery, turning your attention to the elf laughing so hard that she's in danger of falling out of the boat.

"I am glad that you are enjoying this, yes."
"Y'know, I'd feel bad- But I think that you being on the receiving end rather than the other side is probably justice."
You tsk, shaking your head.

"She is bad enough already, yes? Don't encourage her."
"Wouldn't dream of it."
You round off the discussion with some practised eye-rolling, and open up the actual topic.

"So! What will you be doing when we get back? Ah. And do you want us to drop you off at the village first?"
The adventurer crosses her arms, dropping back into the boat proper and leaning against the boatspine. Whatever.
"Well, I'll have to coop myself up and write the report- But That's paying work. Good paying work, to boot. After that, I'm thinking food that wasn't killed five minutes prior by a spider, and maybe a night in my own bed."

"Oh, of course. The little things in life, yes?"
"Pretty sure nothing involving you will ever be little."
"I have little sisters and little brothers. And a little moth and a-"
"Not what I meant. And I've met your siblings. Little isn't a word I'd use."
>>
Right one last Thing I forgot to mention. Gin's Daughter has a crush on Dr. Love, she is learning to make chocolates, fun times will ensue

>>37248179

"Size is all relative, yes."
"Sure, sure. I'm fine with being dropped off later, anyhow. I figure you'll be wanting to spend time with your furry friend. Who is awake, by the way."

Your head follows her finger down, your eyes meet the fresh waking ones of your latest family member.

Sheszka smiles sleepily up at you for a split second- before you drag her up, out of her blankets and into your arms.
She manages something halfway between a yelp and an 'eep' before you've got her in a tight hug, your head next you hers and your arms wrapped around her.

Her hands find your waist, and she reciprocates as best she can with her limbs pinned to her sides, leaning her head into yours and whispering.
"Lyra."
"You aren't allowed to get hurt without telling me, yes. Never again."
"Yes."
"You are family, Sheszka."
"Yes."
"I mean it."

Your tears feel hot, but not sad. There's a swelling ball of emotion in your chest, and you draw deep breaths, holding your wolf close.
"Lyra."
"Mmn. We'll get food and stuff later, yes. When we can stop."
"Thank you."
>>
>>37248181
when did gin get a kid again?
I thought it was the other one who was havin' kids.
>>
>>37248204
You pull back, and she smiles up at you, teeth beaming in the light.
"Are you feeling okay? Better, yes?"
"Yes. I am not hot or cold or shakey."
Your hands find her head, and you stroke out her hair, scratching at her ears as you untangle the mess she's sporting. Her tail thumps the bottom of the boat, and she pulls her blanket up around her shoulders as she pushes her head into your hands.
"We will talk later, yes? About what you want. Maybe we can visit your lands, or find things."
"Mmm."

With the first piece of what will probably come to be known as the week of spoils complete, you take up the oars again. The wolf turns, sitting cross-legged in our lap and leaning against you.

You let your mind wander a bit before you open your mouth again.

"Sara?"
"Hmmmmmm?"
"How are you, yes?"

"Well, not sick, yes?"
"That wasn't really a worry. Are you doing okay? Thank you for coming with us, yes."

"I am fine, Lyra. I enjoy using my magic, if nothing else. The walking, less so."
"You are a lazy, lazy spider."
"I think that I am fine, yes? As long as I move more than Elle, anyway."
"If she could sit in a web and eave all day, she would."
"Mhm."

"Well, than you for coming anyway, yes. I think carrying everyone would have been hard."
"And carrying most of everyone and a boat wasn't?"
"It is space, not weight."
"I am thinking that you might be more magical that I am, yes?"
"And I am thinking that you are ridiculous."

You both laugh as the current picks up, speeding the boat ever onward.

I dug through the ask.fm

we have solid black eyes

which means nobody but us can appreciate our eyerolls.

Can they turn green whenever Lyra recognizes Lewdness?

I love Lyra thinking she's pretty cool and hip and everyone else is like "man she's an adorable dork".

Nah, everyone else is like "Man, that sure is a giant spider." and Lyra be all like "I am THE Giant Spider.

Infidel.

I lack an appropriate picture so have this anecdotal one instead.

I'm with you on that one anon.
>>
You steer the boat into the shallows, letting the underside of the boat grind into the sand of the shore.
People are out and stretching their legs in seconds, cracking necks, pulling arms. Anything to get the kinks out.

Sheskza is a bit slower picking herself up- Still hungry, still weak. Not moving for a while will do that, yes. You grab her with one hand and the boat with the other, pulling it onto the river bank and handing your wolf gently to your sister, who looks confusedly between the two of you.

Dinner time. Or duty time, really.
"Could you all set up camp? I will find us something to eat, yes."
"Not me, though!"
"Leaves do not require much in the way of hunting, Nin."
"You just don't appreciate my talents!"

"Jin, could you help with setting up the fire?"
"Yes!"
"After the pit is dug, yes?"
"But what if we need a bigger fire? What if it is too small, Lyra?"
"I have faith in you, Jinni. I'm sure any fire will be unnecessarily large."
"Okay!"

You shake your head as Lann laughs, peeling out of camp and into the surrounding woods.
Bears bears bears.

Actually, come to think of it- Sheszka was the one that like bears first. You hunted the first bear with her, when you told her to find something she'd like to eat.
This is all actually her fault.

You nod to yourself.
This is very reassuring.

You blow through a bush, and a bear pulls its face free from a rabbit's body, a surprised look on its muzzle.

A second later, you replace the bears surprised look with a dead look, courtesy of your spear and also the growing pangs of hunger. You haul the beast back to your camp in short order.

Noone even comments on the bear, thankfully.
Nin does wiggle her eyebrows, though.
Brat.

You set the meat sizzling.
Lann provides the spices.
Dinner is happening. It is happening right now.

A cabin does sound nice.

I like the tree-boat arrangement.
And a cabin will just gets us various monsters trying to break in.
>>
>>37249698
the extra benefit of it is, when we come back in 10 years, it will be lived in by whatever those eye things are.

Don't you mean it'll become a temple?

Hopefully not, that would be much less useful for them and awkward for us later.

The second one is fact.
>>
>>37249817
We encountered the eyes on our very first night.
And we traveled for days afterwards.
Now, we have only traveled for one day into the other direction.
So the only chance we have at meeting them would be once we are less than a days travel away from the waterfall.

Isn't that the Game where the AI ask you to bake her a cake? Like A real cake and send a picture tothe devs?

Yes, it's also the game that gets angry at you for knowing what kitchen supplies you have in stock.

Yes. And you also have to stop playing the game for eight hours periodically. Or advance your computer's clock, but that's boring.

No, I don't have an oven in my dorm room. And after the game threw a fit about me knowing I don't have any flour around, I didn't particularly feel like indulging the dev either.

It was also rather disappointing after the first game.

You trade a sizzling bear steak for a wolf.
Sara closes the deal easily, and you settle Sheszka into your lap again, leaning our arms around her as you cook and cut and prepare.

She eyes the meat greedily, her tongue sliding free of her mouth and reaching towards the plate.
You giggle, freeing a bite sized piece, blowing to cool it, and placing it neatly on the stretched tongue.

Your newest family member pulls it back into her mouth, jaws closing with a snap as she savours her first real meal in days.

It isn't long before it creeks back open, her head lolling back till her eyes meet yours, pleading.
You grin, and dangle the next piece over her open maw.

In general, the two of you make a rather large mess of dinner, though you're both most certainly satisfied.
Sheszka eats her fill, curls into a ball against you and starts snoring, beginning what would certainly be the race to end all races with Jin.

You, on the other hand, Let your friends eat their fill, and then proceed to eat the rest of the bear. The expressions on their faces call to mind people witnessing piranhas for the first time.

You don't care. Food.

When it's all said and done, you're a little too full to be dragging boats into trees. And leaving it to your sister doesn't seem right either, even if she can't look at your face at the moment without giggling.

So you pile everyone into the boat, and make yourself a neat little stone tree side by side with the real tree.

It doesn't take long for you to pass out, flopping into a pile of blankets and friends.
Without a doubt, a fulfilling and special day.

You know it sucks I have no computer. Which is going to make running a quest much more difficult (I only have an iPad))

Just grab a cheap USB keyboard and some 3rd party Lightning to USB adaptor. That that will make typing stuff much easier and faster.
>>
>>37251755
started reading it. Heh it said qms lose sleep. Good thing I don't get much sleep in the first place. I rarely tire
