Surprise Sunday Thread!
Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/37006581/
Our Current Stats: http://pastebin.com/iahm4JSj (Please have a look at them, but don't feel obligated to read it all in one sitting- use it as a guideline if you're drawing a blank or need some contextual information as I've essentially compiled every piece of information that's relevant to our civilization.)

Last time we went through a lot of interesting events: We discovered some of the lost cultural heritage of Pre-colonial Gorgon Civilization, we came into contact with a rare and unusual moon stone that has left a very small group of our people (maybe like 15?) "Moon-touched", we made contact with the southern continent and it's Cyclopean peoples, and we suffered a tremendous blow to the Gorgon community... but through humility, hope does remain.

Due to recent events a few new developments have come to your peoples attention:

>+The Gorgon Eggs have Hatched+
The Eggs produced and laid with the assistance of the Hydra Mother/Fertility goddess have all begun to hatch and the babies appearance is "noteworthy": Some of them possess White hair, they're all significantly quite taller and most if not all of them have otherwise unique and varied appearances that could only be possible through true sexual reproduction. They are however not crossbreeds.

>+The JackFruit has been Domesticated+
Related to the Breadfruit, the Jackfruit has only been observed growing wild in the New Growth that has consumed the Fungal Forest on the mainalnd. The Jackfruit has become an Important reliable food source due to the fact that it grows numerous horrendously gigantic fruits: each fruit potentially weighing in 80lb to 160lbs. The Unripe fruit has a "meaty" taste making it popular in stews and among Gorgons, the Ripe Fruit is deliciously sweet, creamy, and can be dried or eaten as is. The Fruit is typically only picked by Cyclopes- as falling fruit can potentially kill Gorgon Wives.
>>
>>37167484

>+The Elves have requested your assistance, but political upheaval remains.+
The Elves are not discouraged by your reaction to the Moon Stone and if anything they are more persistent than ever- They have requested the aid of a number of your Craftsmen, Geomancers, and Astromancers for a secret project. The Terms include "Magical compensation", but the Gorgon Empire and their High priestesses uncharacteristically throws themselves upon you to request that you use this "favor" to negotiate Elven Foreign-aid so they may rebuild and reinstate control over their Civilization.
The Gorgon Empire is willing to offer the closely guarded secrets of Silk production if you can do this for them.

AAannndd, that's it! (Posting the new map again.)
I started MUCH later than usual, so I'll wait for you guys to wander in before we start but it's the same deal as always:

>Success +Hydra Mother

The new Gorgon babies birthed will never replace the lives lost to the curse of the Bird Demi-god seemingly summoned in the last ditch efforts of the parrats... but it was a first step in mending the hearts and minds of the people. The next was to ask for forgiveness and as a show of humility: Many Gorgon Mothers, Wives, Sisters, and Cyclopes alike go to pray and sing hymns of forgiveness and atonement. It is a solemn event and the songs of the spirits are particularly quiet that day.. But a sense of ease washes over your people and they feel it as helped.

>Rolling Census 19+12=31/100
>Failure. -Lack necessary technology

The Triceratop has been a welcome addition from the Gorgon stock: it's eggs are large and delicious, it breeds often, and the meat it produces is hearty....but it's too small for Cyclopes to ride upon. Gorgons may ride upon it- but the Back and spine of the Triceratops makes for uncomfortable riding. The Elephant is also too short to ride upon, but the Gorgons say it is much more comfortable seating. Your people wonder if there could be some way to have them.. pull something? Or push? Maybe? It's beyond them at this point- such inventions as the wheel or the cart are unheard of.

>+Stone Mill (Manual powered) invented
The Stone Mill is a large grooved "bowl" construction that possess an equally large, round, smoothed "wheel". The Wheel has a handle feeding out of it that is connected to a pole feeding out of the center of the mill's "bowl". The lever can be pushed either by Hand or by Animal (Elephant, Triceratops). As the Wheel is pushed it can be used to ground up a large quantity of dried fruits and herbs- it is especially useful in making Plantain flour, Fruit alcohol, and spice mixes.

>High Quarter Success +Requested Assistance

The Council of Sages has been thinking about the offer of the Elves and the counter offer of the Gorgons and they think this would be an excellent opportunity to instate and further dictate more Cyclopean influence over Gorgon Civilization.

A Force of 200 Cyclops Volunteers and 15 Heroes come forth from the island communities, all eager to venture into the wretched pit of Sin that is the Gorgon Cities in an effort to bring about peace, civility, and prosperity back to their lives through "modern" Cyclopean management.

Due to the unrepresented HIGH population density of the Gorgon Empire your people are only able to give assistance to TWO of the Gorgons cities, but their influence is still felt and appreciated:
>+Foreign Cultural Development: Culture Shock+
>Most City gorgons have gone their entire lives without seeing a Cyclopes or knowing a life beyond the walls of their city- now they're witnesses groups of them policing, providing order, relief efforts, and actively curbing crime and cleaning up their city using otherworldly magic and gentle but savage strength. Some are frightened, some are enamored, some view it as another form of colonialism.

The Wheel isn't something your people have actively used for anything beyond milling and the connection between a cart or vehicle or even the idea that you can put wheels on something and it will "move" when pushed has always been a little out there... This has not been the same story for the Gorgons. The Gorgons have been observed using such inventions as the Rickshaw: A slave or low-class Gorgon pulls a small wheeled cart for the convenience of Higher-classed Gorgons. They've also observed such innovations as Bridles and leather straps tied to the Triceratop so that it may pull a wooden cart or "carriage". These vehicles are used to move goods and people around cities and countryside.

>+Wheel(transportation) Discovered, +Wagon/Cart/Carriage invented.
>Essentially half of a "boat" is carved before wooden wheels on an Axle are placed underneath it- The entire thing is usually made out of wood or bamboo so that the parts are easier to replace and the vehicle may be carried or lifted if stuck. The Wagon may be pulled by a person or an Animal.
>+Rickshaw accidentally introduced
>The Rickshaw isn't as popular in Cyclopean culture as it is in Gorgon culture, but it is mildly popular among the Elderly and some Cyclopes enjoy taking their Gorgon sisters, wives, and daughters on rides.
>>

Yes and no.
We just need to make it so people desire our influence.

Quickest way of doing this through three things.
1. Lower caste gorgons gain prosperity trough trading with our society. This will associate us with wealth.
2. Cyclopean architechture to create aqueducts, walls and more durable housing. This will associate us with safety and stability.
3. Teach them cyclopean language and writing and grant them access to cyclopean literature. Considering lot of them were illiterate before, this will establish us as the dominant cultural force.

>+Doubles+ +High end success, +Ancient Gorgon inspiration, +Racial bonus.

Architecture and Stone masonry has always been a strength of your people and even though your work is little more than smoothly shaped stones to be fitted, stacked, and piled up build structures- It still does the job.
The Excavation of the Gorgon Civilization though has introduced and shown new concepts: Arches, Domes, advanced stone structures.. all things your Masons, Stoneworkers, and Geomancers eagerly take notes on- Inspiration hits.

>+KEY BUILDING DEVELOPMENT DISCOVERED. BRANCHING DISCOVERIES ACHIEVED+<
>+Arch, +Advanced Aqueducts & +Bridge Invented

With the invention of the ARCH your people go a little crazy with what can now be built: Arches allow for grater structural stability and creativity and your workers soon reason that with the advent of the Arch they can dramatically improve how they've been building Aqueducts and may construct BRIDGES. Advanced Aqueducts are made from a series of Arches and allow for more advanced, farther, and more efficient irrigation and fresh running water available to cities due to their ability to be ELEVATED as opposed to your old Aqueducts which were little more than paved water "roads". Stone Bridges are... less significant: They're convenient, but your islands don't have many rivers or gulches to cross.

>Distinct Cyclopean Architecture
>Roll 93/100
>Complete Success +Council of Sages, +Distinct Cultural Pride

Cyclopean Architecture has always been defined by impressive, humongous, Monolithic stone structures, platforms, tables, and other Megalithic structures: Houses are "pieced" together without mortar but with such fine attention to detail to fitting, shaping, and carving stone that they stand strong regardless. Cyclopean Architecture is very distinct: It does not look "artificial" or carved, it combines both a primitive aesthetic with purposeful smooth and crafted design using patient methods and rudimentary geomancies so that houses and monuments look both natural, ornate, and distinct:
As if the stones themselves have crawled and rolled by their own volition to form into cities and temples.
>>
>>37169939
We should let the old gorgon cities stay as they are, but build right next to them with superior Cyclopean architecture.

>New Sanitation Methods have dramatically increased the cleanliness of your Cities, the availability of fresh water for even the most squalid of dwellings AND has done wonders to filter and channel out the filth. Your Communities are practically glistening communities of modernity compared to some of the places Gorgons have to live in. Some of your more Artistic and Water-homesick Cyclopes wonder if this could be used to advance Aquaculture or artificial pools.

>Bring out our masons to create a "cyclopean" part of town in the Gorgon Cities which will help house and employ the poor.
>Roll 20/20
>Complete, undeniable success. +Gorgon Permission

The Gorgons have provided the resources and the Cyclopes dwelling and working within the cities have provided the need and the motive: The dwellings and homes of the Gorgons are far too small, dirty, and squalid for even the shortest and desperate of your Race to dwell within and a "Cyclopes District" is requested to be built in the respective Cities your people work and police in.

The Construction of these Districts draws the attention of many Gorgons as they've never seen such a spectacle or display. All able Cyclopes take part in the construction of the districts: Stones are summoned and called forth from the depths of the earth or rolled and dug up from outside of the city. They are smoothed, shaped, and formed with such meticulous care and precision before being finished with advanced Geomancies that come so naturally to your people. Villas, Public Square, Public bath, and a small "discreet" shrine are erected as to provide the conveniences your people are accustomed to.

It came in the hull of a large Ship bearing imported goods from the Southern Continent.
With ropes and Muscle they bring their precious and coveted item: A large, bumpy, cater-dotted, black, shining, wrinkled piece of ore. About the Size of a Bear it sits there on the Docks.
The Merchants are scolded by their Wives, "You traded everything for THIS?" They couldn't help it they said, the Stone, nay the ORE- was a Gift from the Farthest Stars they said and they possessed a Strange fascination with it.
The Sages and Geomancers come to view the Strange ore from the south- to sing a few Hymns and hear what sweet earthly songs it might resonate back.
The Ore, it..It does not resonate properly, it's rhythms are foreign and the Song it echoes back is completely undiscernable and at the worst almost nauseating to listen to. They request that it be taken away, but the smiths unfortunately get a hold of it.

It's Smelted, Tempered, Worked, Processed, and re-processed. They delight at the ease of how it can be worked, they marvel at the quality of Iron tool is produces and lo: Spades, Chisels, Hammers, Axes, Spears, they produce all manner of tool, but all of them hold onto themselves a most twisted, writhing, and bumpy physical appearance despite their high functioning quality.
One Craftsmen against the wishes of the Sage produces a Medium: a great twisted and uncomfortable looking rod- The Hymns and Songs it resonates are so utterly disgusting the Medium is forced to be smelted back down.

>+Meteorite Iron Discovered+

>Further Study and Document the Effects of Botanomancy using Astromancy.
>Roll 18/20
>Complete Success +Gorgon Assistance

Astromancy and Botanomancy are two very difference magical practices: Botanomancy is a more "applied" hymn that evokes emotion and the sympathies of the plants- Plants possessing an elemental spirit, but at the same time their own song and not actively resonating like that of "pure" elements.
The Fungal Forest however is unresponsive to the Hymns you've been preparing and using for traditional plant life: No matter how much emotion, poetry, or depth of song and tone.. the Fungi do not respond. They are however responsive to Astromancy(?)
Astromancy is a longing and distance Hymn sung to the Stars, the moon, and even the sun at time to beckon forth their power, fury, favor, and so forth. Using the very celestial bodies themselves as Focuses or mediums.

>+Gorgon Empress herself+
Your Council of Sages makes the commute to one of the major cities your people are currently supporting and there they request a Council with the High Empress of the Gorgon empire herself and her council of High Priestesses. The Priestesses are at that moment a bit taken back by such an audacious request, but the empress seems more than okay with it. "So the One-eyed Men wish to Know the secrets of Mud and Moss? Very well!"
She is truly an ordained woman: Gold accessories, piercings, Tattoos and jewelry covering her body- even the serpents in her long black hair have golden bracelets. She is a Giant woman, bred and built to rule, to breed, and dominate lesser woman before her- She's actually tall enough to be eye-level with the chests of your people.

"Whether it holds any truth or is merely a convenient lie- it does not matter whether the Elves "truly" come from the Moon or not, as the method for divination and control of the Fungal wood remains the same. JFor "True" dominion over Fungal-life a pact with the Moon be made for Control over the Fungal wood."

The Gorgon Empress goes on to demonstrate- her medium is a very small piece of Moon rock fashioned into a snake eye in the figurehead of a Fungal wood rod carved in the image of a Snake. She Brandishes the Rod- extending her arm, and the Fungal Garden of her Courtyard germinates, extends spores, and grows in real time before the dull, pale, glow of the rod.

She then waves your people away, "Go, I welcome your interest and assistance, but tire of your presence. Please help yourself to any of the Temple Maidens on your way out; They need to be broken in anyway."

Here, the way I see it at this point in time there are Two possible options/Wonders we could build at this point in time:

>The Arcanum
The Arcanum would be an incredibly massive Library or university like creation of: possessing large temple gardens with beautiful and well mannered flowering trees and plants to wander through, as well as running water into artificial ponds that would all facilitate calm and tranquil contemplation. The Main features however of the Arcanum would be it's expansive and meticulously compiled archive of every available Magical and Technological scripture, Hymn, and scrap of knowledge available to your people- for complete public access as well as the construction of a horrifyingly massive and sufficiently advanced Monolithic monument.

>The Lighthouse.
Built from stone pulled out from the Ocean and the efforts of the finest stone Masons and Geomancers your people have managed to produce. The Lighthouse would potentially be one of the tallest Humanoid-made Structures known to either Cyclopes or Gorgon and would be such a shining beacon over the ocean- it's light would be seen for miles and not only benefit trade, but would also be a visible symbol of your peoples mercantile and engineering might.

They will all have unique results, benefits, and outcomes but ALL of them will eat up all your excess resources.
These do NOT require a roll- only a vote.
>>

The Sages Council is called forth, the book keeping is laid out, designs are drawn, craftsmen, masons, stoneworkers, gold smiths, farmers, engineers, and all forms of Cyclopean walks of life are called forth to attend the council of the "Wondrous construction".

The plan is put into motion: The Capital city that lay upon the home island, the largest city known to Cyclops kind will be completely refurbished, resigned, remodeled, and re-built to erect your civilizations mightiest creation - The Arcanum -.

The Arcanum's construction begins with walls, mounds, elevation, and a great naturally formed towering multi-platformed Ziggurat being built upon the heart of the home islands city. There, Foundations are built, Arches constructed, Aquaducts re-aligned and improved, and the entire city is upgraded with the very heart of it- The Megalith built so long ago- is dragged up to the top of the monumental city redesign.

At the very absolute Center of the Arcanum a Great Monolith is erected; finished in Gold, wrapped in belts of iron, and sitting in the middle of a great pool that flows into and connects all fresh running water within the city. A dense, thick, groomed, garden of blossuming trees and flowers is cultivated- part of the "Old growth" law, allows it to wrap around the entire city in layered levels of scenic and beautiful Jungle Gardens. The flowing Waters assist it's growth and sooner than later the Arcanums own Jungle is abuzz with the sound of tropical birds, as it swells with all manner of life.

The finishing touches on the Arcanum involving the compiling, crafting, and working of numerous Arched and pillar supported halls equipped and carved with dozens of compartments, shelves, and storage space for thousands of compiled Scrolls and Stone & Clay Tablets. When it is finished- the Halls of the Arcanum are so wide and open that entire audiences of people may sit on lectures, sage councils, or observe plays.

Ideas on how to make our economy boom again?
>>
With the finished construction of the Arcanum a number of new developments have happened:

>+Population Doubles: Advanced City and Gardening design and planning.
>New Current Population: 5150 (2300 Gorgons)
With the complete refurbishment and redesigning necessary to incorporate the construction and splendor of the Arcanum- it has allowed your "old" city to be designed much more efficiently. Not only incorporating more modern Aqueducts, roads, and buildings- but also for the implement of more fluid urban and old growth gardening. All these developments keep the city cleaner, house more people, feed them, and make everything significantly more organized.

>+Mural to the Hydra Mother+ Gorgon District built.
>+Gorgons now living on Home island:+/-Gorgon population Triples from native Births.
>New Current Population: 5150 (6900 Gorgons)
The City has also seen the construction of a "Gorgon" district: using left over material and ordained and iconifed with a mural and stone statue of the encoiled image of the Great Hydra mother- Her tail flowing into the head of the cosmic snake as it pours water to feed into their end of the Aquaduct. There is now a sizable population of "Native" Born Gorgons- Gorgons whom have never known culture or Civilization beyond that of Cyclopean modernity and whom are iconic for having freckles, as well as black or white hair.

>-Economy Boom ended<
>You've completely blown through your coffers and all excess resources have been consumed.

>-Spirited empowerment-
>The Waters and Jungle that flow through your city.. the halls of the arcanum and even the city itself..they hum with a loud and constant resonation of a song that is both pleasant, but at the same time constant. The voice of the spirits cannot be escaped: Hymns can be done effortlessly, but at times some particularly devoted individuals can find themselves losing sight of what is and isn't reality as the ethereal realm of spirits spills into the physical realm.
