/tg/ - Traditional Games

>Current Population: 1655(1630 Gorgon) (2 City, 55 villages, 4 islands, 32 heroes)
>Culture and Art: Your people wear fine woven clothing dyed in vivid black and red mineral dyes, leather shoes, and various ivory, horn, and shell jewelry. They worship a pantheon of Celestial bodies with a casual respect towards elemental spirits and saints. Two Holidays are observed: The Spirit Festival and the Suns giving. Soccer and Public Baths have become popular past times.
>The People: Your people organize themselves into large open families with communities formally lead by a Magocracy council of Sages. Gorgons exist as a visible Minority group that are occasionally bred/lived with. Trade skills are committed to and goods and services are purchased with Ivory Rings. Ethnicity wise your people come in a variety of light to dark tanned freckled skin tones with their white hair braided or kept short and messy. Your People speak and write Island "True" Cyclopean and Gorgon as a second language.
>Technology: Your people use a variety of Iron/stone tools as well as Glass and clay products. Cities and Towns are thoughtfully developed and designed using advanced city planning and stone construction techniques (roads, irrigation, two-story buildings etc). Bamboo scrolls and the knowledge of Herbal medicines, basic geometry, math, astronomy, and rudimentary natural sciences are common and accessible..
>Magic: (121 "Sages".) Elemental Magical practices are quite widespread as is the use of Megalithic structures and Iron/Gold as mediums for magics. Divine and Arcane Magics remain rudimentary.
>Food: Adequate. Your people practice AgroForestry with large Orchards that contain Plantains, Mangoes, Herbs, Spices, Breadfruit, Cashews, and Sweet potatoes. Aquaculture is also used to raise stocked freshwater fish, but fishing remains a more practical source of seafood. Livestock include: Elephants, Triceratops, Peccaries, Chickens, and Banana Rats. Dried goods are kept in community Storage.

Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/37006581/

Last thread our major achievements included: Building a bridge off the skeleton of the dead world snake, The invention of the stone Mill, domestication of the peccary, public baths, and an assortment of other "house keeping" innovations that just make normal life easier... With Exception to Parrats made Sapient. They do not make life Easier.

However, due to outside forces a number of new issues and developments have come to your attention and would most likely benefit from your immediate response:

>The South: Land of Ice and Ferns
The Southern continent has only just been rumored- a harsh land perpetually frozen in Ice, with long nights, long days, and it's only saving grace being the major volcanic and geothermal activity that keeps portions of it unthawed to support humid, damp, fern-jungles. Southern Cyclopes have begun to finally make contact: original descendants of Cyclopes whom were displaced by volcanic eruptions and went further south as opposed to braving the "deep ocean". They are a soft-spoken, Stockier, black-haired Cyclopes who subsist off of sealing, and iron-working. They are a separate Ethnicity.

>Gorgon Political upheaval.
The Elves have been begun to relinquish their support from the Gorgon cities ever since they witnessed the magical displays and potential of Cyclopes. This has caused turmoil and suffering from the loss of infrastructure, a power vacuum to slowly develop, and the Gorgon cities to become even filthier, squalid, and wretched.

OH and by popular demand; I drew us a new map! I even drew a little group shot of all the animals and people we co-exist with. I hope you guys like it.

The Raptor is a particularly savage, viscous, little creature: it hunts in packs, it steals chickens, banana rats, terrorizes peccaries and has a taste for eggs that make Gorgons quiver... But, despite that it does hunt in packs and it CAN be tamed and your Gorgons have imparted the art of Raptoring: an ancient sport that pre-dates Elven colonialism- a Gorgon with a leather glove commands a tame Raptor to hunt down pests and birds for sport and they are all too happy to revive the sport.

Gorgons make more gorgons. They're monogendered and reproduce through parthogenesis, like whip lizards. This gets asked enough that it might be a good idea to include in the opening post
>>
>>37141554
I think we learned that a union between a cyclops and a gorgon just produces a gorgon.
>>
>>37141554
Gorgons produce more gorgons via parthenogenesis.

They don't actually reproduce with cyclops. Yet.

But even then, we have to watch their population. I really like having gorgons around, but they could replace us easily.
>>
>>37141598
If we expand the population we'll need better food sources. Right now we're comfortably feeding our people but the gorgon communites show what a run away population does

>>
>>37141704
I'm not exactly opposed to the separation of labor in such a way, there just has to be a better way of phrasing it.

If there is stratification it should be less because "we better, you worse" but more "We can't do what you do and You can't do what we do." Separate based on what each does well... not out of some notion one has the upper hand on the other.

Like, gorgons are just better hunters, weavers, and have the amazing skill of "Depth Perception" that cyclopses lack.

But cyclopses are bigger, and have better magic. So much better magic that it gives gorgons hemorrhages.

>Help the Tapir population bounce back with better land management.
>Roll 66/100
>DOUBLE SIXES. INTERESTING RESULTS

Your Council of Sages on the home island have grown mildly concerned- some more than others- at the slow and steady disappearance of the beautiful and noble Tapir. The Tapir is unlike the elephant or the deer in that it is a solitary animal that does not otherwise organize itself into herds. It is also nocturnal, enjoys old-growth jungles, and is quite "sassy"; all of these things and more have made the domestication of it almost impossible and their numbers have dramatically decreased to minor obscurity.

The Sages would like to put an end to this, they ordain the practice of "Old Growth Respect": larger sections of connected jungle land are portioned off and allowed to as wild and rampant as they so desire- Farmers as well are encouraged to leave some of their Orchards go "wild" as well.

>+FALLOWING accidentally invented+: Fallowing is not the same in the Jungle- instead of letting a crop be unseeded, you simply let the "wilderness" over take it for a few seasons to let the ground "breath". Allowing a few years of sub-par crop, but excellent foraging and hunting before a return to excellent crop.
>+Dramatic population increase+: 305+ Cyclops
>>Current Population: 2005(1630 Gorgon)
>+"Urban wildlife"development+: The old growth respect has allowed for distinct rings of jungle to start growing inner-locked within your city and villages..This has allowed "channeled" habitats for jungle wildlife to live closer to home.

hm, the elves did grow the fungal forest as a deterrent for whatever is on the mainland....

Oh fuck, they're running from insect hordes and swarms in the mainland
>>
>>37142093
I'm okay with this.
>>
>>37141840
Also there were the merfolk we had just encountered in the reefs, can't forget about our aquatic neighbors
>>
>>37142161
We didn't so much encounter them as much as we got threatened by them to back the fuck off.
>>
So with the enlightened parrats what should we do?

I kind of want to see if we can get them on our side somehow. Would they comprehend peace offerings? Like of food and clothes? Or hell even games? See if we can't teach them soccer so they can work out their rambunctiousness.

Or what if we were to raise some of our own? Taking parrat eggs from their nests (Or whatever it is) and raising them amongst cyclopses. That said... that is kind of morally nasty thing to consider.

I just want to get some tiny jerks on our side to pester opponents like Elves.
>>
>>37142238
Let's drop a giant stone near one of their nests that basically says we will give them shit if they stop being assholes and start helping out

They won't need to steal from the granaries, and risk being eviscerated by our newly domesticated raptors, if they help us gather food
>>
>>37142238
I think with all these new factions showing up, I think we need to work on our diplomacy. I mean, we've got merfolk, new cyclopses, and parrats to deal with now. If the elves are as terrifying as we make them out to be, we need to get as many allies as possible.
>>
>>37142296
>drop a stone with an offering of peace and food for the parrats.
>Come back and find its been smeared with foul smelling substances and covered with expletives, including drawing mustaches on the gorgon's faces.
>>
>>37142305
Agreed, diplomacy is the way to go.
>>
>>37142305
Absolutely. Merfolk should (hopefully) be the easiest to diplomacize, but since they're limited to the ocean, it's uncertain how effective they'll be. Parrats would be absolutely devastating against the elves, but trying to win them over would be high risk, high reward. There's a chance they'll drive us insane long before they'll want to work with us, but if we can convince them, they'll be very, very useful in terms of warfare.
>>
>>37142305
We need to work on our military as well, its going to be tricky since we are very peace-loving. Maybe some sort of sparring game or hide and seek?

Imagine a cyclops being able to hide like a true ninja.
>>
>>37142238
We did bring them to sapience, there is no reason for us shun them. We need to take responsibility. Be the great parents we know we can be.
>>
>>37142305
>>37142376
>>37142408
Perhaps it is time to consult the weaping sage on the Parrat issue, they've been a problem for thoundsands of years now.
>>
>>37142305
Yeah. We've got some gorgon stuff going down but if we can make allies out of our enemies, the better.

Big challenges we face are this,
The Elves are too above it all.
The Merfolk seem kind of xenophobic by nature, if their message is anything to go by.
The Parrats are just a race of knoxvilles with little to no common sense.

Out of those three which do you think would be easiest to diplomacy with?

This civ quest is going to get a lot more political. There's going to be some serious statecraft going on.
>>
>>37142477
Kind of minor to consult him on this. Plus they're sentient now, and mostly living elsewhere since we brought in the raptors.
>>
>>37142437
it's easy really, we just put a bigger focus on Martial arts and self defence, healthy living through exercise, and hold tornaments for martial arts masters for fame and glory.
>>
>>37142494
Parrats. Gifts of food would get on their good sides easy. Plus we could hire them for certain jobs now that they're sentient.
>>
>>37142494
I actually think we should start talking with the new cyclopses. See if we can learn anything about metal crafting or boat building from them, and see if we can increase trade/migration.
>>
>>37142558
Them too. Maybe send a hero from our lands to talk with them. My only concern is how different their thinking might be, and where they are technologically. We've got infrastructure up the wazoo afterall, and if they're in the stone ages I'd just imagine the culture shock.
>>
>>37142552
Perhaps we can hire them as scouts/sabateurs/guerilla fighters in the fungal forests against the elves eventually

They have killed using banana peels before
>>
>>37142543
Oh yeah... they did that somewhere as a dance or something. Brazil maybe?
>>
>>37142558
on that point perhaps we can also improve the bridge, shaping the coral growing on it so that it's easier to walk on. We also still need to set up monoliths to help connect us to air and nature.

>Research and Further Develop Botanomancy- Study the mysteries of the Fungal Forest.
>Roll 84/100
>High End Success +Magocracy +Dedicated Agriculture

What is the song of the Trees? The Flower? The Grass or the Leaves? What Hymns do the plants hum so elegantly on the soft jungle breeze or when tickled by the salty air of the sea?
The Fungal Forest however is an entirely different matter all together: Such an alien, grotesque, and foreign mockery of what most of your people consider "vegetation".

The Sage council of the mainland community would like to put an end to this and a number of them make the commute beyond the New Growth and to where the Old Fungal growth still subsists: A sky-scraping Tree line of enclosing fungal forest greets them- utterly blocking out any light from entering below it's canopy. They sit down, hold their mediums, and begin their Hymn.

The Fungal forest does not respond.
It remains completely silent- completely and utterly disturbing silence. Such a silence that has not been perceived by your Sages before by any entity. A silence that is cold, dark, empty, with such resounding and utter-hollowness that it consumes Song.
The Fungal forest remains unresponsive.

Your Sages begin going home- the moon is rising, the sun is setting, and many of them wish to eat, drink, and bed. A few of your Sages remain though and they raise their hands and mediums of Iron and Gold to the sky to perform a duet to beckon forth the Moon: The pale, glow of the moon faintly glistens and seems to intensify enough for a single spotlight to extend down before a small section of fungal forest.

The Fungal forest becomes responsive- It becomes TOO responsive; the summoned light of the moon causing rampant, chaotic, and uncontrollable growth that starts crawling, expanding, and writhing forward.
The Sages quickly stop.
No one knows what to make of it, but they all stay a little longer to peer back at the Moon.

Some of your more Brazen Cyclopes wish to raise the boiling lizard: a massive creature, with an inflatable gullet it engorges with water to expel a boiling, steaming, torrent of water for self-defense and attack.... But it seems the only place they willingly lay their eggs is in some of the most dangerous spots on the islands, namely the places with volcanic activity. Any attempt to collect the eggs is met with hot feet, burns, and at least one Cyclopes accidentally falls to his death.

The Snake Bridge hasn't honestly been as popular as most people would think: it sways in the wind, it takes a long time to walk across, and most Cyclopes are honestly more inclined to just swim and use it as a resting spot.... The Growth of the Reefs though have changed this: Small temporary shanties or shakes that act as "pit stops" have been sprouting up- These shacks are made of drift wood, Bamboo, bone, and rest upon stilts that are then fitted into the corals and tied to bone. Originally built on choice foraging and fishing spots- they've slowly evolved and further developed from temporary dwellings to committed fishery spots.

You're makeing this way more complicated than it is. It's not really that hard, a sage only needs to read the cosmic scrolls. You're also implying that the Weeping sage didn't have any heirs, which was never stated.

>"Diplomacy".
>roll 100/100, No counter roll can beat you.
>Complete and total undeniable success +Too Successful +Collectivism -Cultural lack of identity

For decades now there have been groups of missionaries, Hymn-singers, and other various both magical and mundane Cycloptic individuals whom have selflessly committed and voluntarily given up their days to benefit Gorgon civilization.

This changes one day though.
The original Elven diplomat from ages ago, returns; ageless, youthful, in his long flowing robe of living fungal growth with an entourage of two other Elven attendees in flowing morphic paper-thin robes carrying an Artifact of seemingly great importance. The Elven Diplomat speaks to your emissaries, "I have something here I would like to give to you- native born." The Elf snaps his fingers and his attendants bring forth a large, bumpy, ball of flesh-like fungal growth- He picks it up and the fleshy-walls of the growth shed and blossoms forth a bumpy, dimly glowing, nearly pure-white mass of reflective metal-like stone.

The Elf chimes back, "This is something I had hoped to give to the Gorgons, but they remained inadequate for such an important role- I would like to then extend this offer to your people in hopes for your assistance. Please extend your hand and receive it."

One of your Cyclopes does as he is told and extends an open palm to receive the soccer-ball sized ore stone.
"Now, this is a moon rock-" Is the last thing the Elf Emissary says before he faints-

We should develop ideas of family, city, and nation. Specifically via civic virtue and in contrast to the squalor of the gorgon.

The only way we can prevent such a thing from happening to us is by taking care of what we have: our own person, our family, our home, our village/city, and our nation.

or maybe the moon is life? The sun has mostly been destructive so far. Even if it's helpful, it's not really engendered life.

The moon could be life, encouraging it to grow past the point of fecundity and into cancer
>>
>>37143851

As soon as the Cyclopes comes into contact with the stone he recoils and sends out a horrifying pained yell that echoes across the minds of every being within the Gorgon's City: gorgons faint, some even die, and the fungal wood bends upon itself.

The Other Cyclopes try to slap the stone out of their colleges hand, but they too freeze upon coming into contact with it: from the point of contact their skin slowly turns into a rich shade of dark blue, the stone itself bursts into a vivid flame of cold white of blue-hued fire that seems to consume visible light.

Your Cyclopes eventually drop the Moon rock and come to their senses: their brown tanned skin has taken on an almost unnatural dark to light blue tone and where the Moon rock has been dropped- a small, tightly-packed, thick, grove of fungal growth has enclosed itself upon it blocking out any light it gives off. The Elf slowly regains consciousness a long with his entourage, "Ah, yes, well it seems that may have worked a little 'too' well, but no matter- if anything it"

"Silence, please", one of your Cyclopes beckon- The Elf immediately loses his voice, but then regains it on command when your Cyclopes asks "why". Visibly convulsing in his mental discomfort he lets out a pained response, "We need to return" and points vaguely to the moon before collapsing in exhaustion- His Attendants nervously coming to his aid.

Your little group of Cyclopes missionaries are too wigged out- checking out their weird blue skin and complaining about the constant ringing in their ears to ask further questions.

ALRIGHTY. Roll for 2 Actions and 1 Idea.

>Study The Phenomena of the Blue-skinned Moon-touched Cyclopes
>+After glow Freebie+
>Success through Census

The Moon-touched Cyclopes return home and are immediately brought towards the council to have a good look at them. They report back what happened: How the Elves brought them a piece of the moon, how through it's power they were turned into this, they swap notes on how the Fungus responds to the moon, and the words of the Elf.

They are quick to notice the power they displayed to command the elf have dissipated and the normal Hymns and weight of their words has returned.....Also something else..

Several of the Cyclopes have been fused together by the power of the Moon Rock: attached in the middle, possessing two-minds, their bodies and souls merged together to form completely new individuals with mannerisms reminiscent of both individuals.

>+Sub-species Accidentally Developed: Moon-touched Cyclopes.
>Moon-touched Cyclopes are distinct in their vivid Blue skin tones, but more importantly how some possess TWO-heads. Both traits seem to be recessive: Two-heads only appearing when both parents are Moon-touched and even then rarely (25%) but ALWAYS produces blue-skinned offspring. Interracial breeding produces only very rarely blue-skinned Cyclopes (15%) but NEVER produces two-headed offspring.
>Moon-touched Cyclopes are too "fresh" and public opinion on them remains neutral. They remain a perfectly normal people albeit blue and sometimes two-headed.

>Develop Philosophy and Ethics
>Roll 98/100
>Complete and total success. +Cyclopes Culture, +Gorgon poverty

The poverty and the shame of Gorgon Civilization and the constant influence of their suffering has had a humongous effect on your people's cultural values and the philosophical pursuits of what it means to be "good" and what is "evil".

From the dawn of time your people have possessed a natural preference for collectivism and as a whole that has eventually developed further into a complete disdain for individual identity and a strong sense of superiority towards Cyclopes culture.

>Cyclopean Collectivist philosophy formally Achieved
>"There is no greater mortal identity than that of the whole. The basis of all suffering is personal individualism conflicting with the altruistic nature of the group. Gorgon civilization being an example: corruption, degradation, depravity, and weakness"
>"Kindness, informality, the whole is greater than any individual- to love, to long, to share, to mediate the suffer of many through the shouldered efforts of ALL."
>>
>>37145473
It caused people to go blind I think, or get so depressed they want to die. Its been a while really.

Maybe the bicyclopses will have some resistance?
>>
>>37145538
So are we becoming a capitalist collectivist society?
>>
>>37145473
No, the people who researched the secrets of the cosmos went blind, then they returned home with their scrolls and died in bed. The one guy who was brave enough to read them became the weeping sage.

Go reread that part, you need to refresh yourself.
>>
>>37145575
Capitalist Communists.
Our American and Russian ancestors (for those of you who are american and/or russian) are rolling in their graves.
>>
>>37145538
These guys just keep getting cooler.
>>
>>37145609
The point still stands, we can't just pull powerful figures out of our collective ass like that.
>>
>>37145473
And we're not trivializeing his or her role by continuing the line of weeping sages, if anything the weeping sage being saintyfied only enriches the lore of the role. I'm also not pushing the we have more than 1 at any time, I only want the tradition of haveing one in cyclops culture to continue.
>>
>>37145662
Communism and collectivism are different things.

Cyclops aren't really interventionist when it comes to economics. They let farmers, fisherment, and other businessmen do their thing and seek the holy dollar.

However, when it comes to the needy, it is simply tradition to give and share. I doubt cyclops would force a rich man to become poor for the sake of someone else, probably because the rich cyclops is already investing in public works and charity.

Who funds the diplomatic expeditions into gorgon territory? Probably rich cyclops trader families.
>>
>>37145744
I think we need it less to be a Line of weeping sages, but more a school or priesthood of weeping sages. Same way we now have a Solar Priesthood, and COuncils of sages.

we were discussing how to negotiate power structure.

Solar Priesthood was going to be a lot of law and order kind of stuff,
and Moonsages following research and development,
and we were thinking a third order of Craftsmen of the stars to enact change on behalf of the council.
>>
>>37145744
Saintifying somebody is not the same as having other people impersonate them for the rest of forever. And if you think we should have more people like him just suggest having people read the scrolls as an action.
>>
This is why I am wary of the Civilization game's system of a small set of actions per turn at some point actions should only be limited to the number of participants (players). I think it’s more natural to pass to a builder-game-like system where every participant can roll for individually for the actions of a single individual or small group within the civilization. Of course this could be more taxing for the GM, but it could reflect civilization moving and acting on different levels and directions. The small group that went exploring need not be kept from exploring further because architecture and commerce are sudden on the rise because it’s the interest current main interest.

OP do not think this as a criticism on your game; because I fucking love it, it’s merely my musings on the system use by /tg/ in general. I may try my hand at a Civilization game and test my own ideas.
>>
>>37145575
So we're the chinese?
>>
>>37145717
It's not like we're pulling it from nowhere, it a power we can use if we want to, simple as that.

Reguardless this conversation is going nowhere, let's agree to disagree on this and get back to the quest
>>37145790
I do think we need to work on this, it will make our council more efficient, like a guild for wood workers we have separate groups in the sage council focusing or specific magics.

>>37145796
>Implying I'm suggesing impersonating someone

Not even once. My stance is that we still have weeping sages in our civilization.
>>
>>37144434
>Send a diplomatic party led by a hero to the southern snow cyclops tribe. its a bout time we get in touch.

>Complete Success.

Heroes are sent out, Dashing and brave groups of Cyclopes are lead, and the Journey to the South is committed to with the blessing of the Sage council so that open discussion may commence with the Southern lands and the Cyclopes that dwell there.

The Journey is long, the Deep ocean is rough- massive waves with equally massive monsters, serpents, leviathans, and the harsh winds and rains of a seemingly never ending storm constantly batter the venture southward... but still your people persist and eventually land on the rocky shores of the South.

The South is a foreign, but familiar place: a land carved and melted into the corner of an ENDLESS massive iceberg that defines the compliments the blue-skied landscape dotted with Fern forests, rolling grassy hills, large bushes of moss, lichen, and hardy thick-leaved vegetation.

A Cold, refreshing breeze washes over the faces of your people and blows their white and silver hair... It....it's fucking cold. It is SO god damn cold- NO ONE is wearing anything seasonally appropriate: your people honestly didn't even know what Ice was.

Luckily they do not have to look long for the Southern communities: Dozens of them Dot the Coast and they are all to eager to offer hospitality to your strange, partially naked, band of explorers. They are decked out in fluffy winter "coats", supped on Seal, muscles, fruit, green vegetables and through their thick accents- Diplomacy is established.

>LONG TERM CONTACT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED WITH THE SOUTH.

>Explore and Excavate the abandoned Gorgon City
>Roll 20/20
>Complete Success

The New Growth has completely enveloped the Old Snake Shrine and the place is completely unrecognizable from what it had once been: The Fungal growth had long since rotted away back into rich soil that not only allowed for the new growth to over-take it, but revealed the ruins of an ancient Gorgon City.

Cyclopes and Gorgons alike have begun to frequent the place and a number of discoveries have been made through committed excavation:

>The Gorgon City seems to predate Formal Elven Colonialism, but not the Fungal Forest itself.
>Most Standing stone structures do not possess stairs- platforms, and grooved pillars are more common.
>Some of the more well preserved and non-collapsed structures possess clay products and GOLD. LOTS OF GOLD.
>There are numerous fragmented statues and broken murals depicting Snakes and Reptiles combined with Gorgons illustrating an animistic pantheon. One of the most iconic gods being an enormous Hydra fertility goddess with each neck feeding into the hips/torso of many huge breasted Gorgons. ((Like, instead of having heads it has entire Gorgon ladies.))
>Beneath the City there appears to be a long abandoned aqueduct flooded into a swamp aquifer.
>Everything else seems to have rotten or deteriorated away beyond identification.

((This doesn't actually require a roll: your people know about Coral and make pretty accessories and art work with it, but it's just more popular to grow flowers or operate gardens at temples at the moment.))

>Warmer Clothes
>Freebie +Southern Snow Cyclopes

The Southern or "Snow Cyclopes" are a friendly sort and even though their thick accents and awkward dialect act as something of a minor road block- it doesn't prevent them from SHOWING something and they're always eager to trade. Thick waterproof coats made from seal and Dry fluffy coats from Deer hide are all possible- They Southerners do wonders for extending our people's knowledge of working furs, hides, and leather and this extends into some truly FINE warm-weather clothing back at home.

>Improve Ship-building techniques for longer Sea Voyages.
>Roll 15/20
>Success +Sail, +Southern Continent

Now that contact with the Southern Continent has been established your people are significantly more motivated to build better ships that just paddle canoes: The deep ocean is unmerciful, the journey to the south is harsh, and this has lead to the production of much LARGER Long-ships. Long-ships: powered by a large strong fabric "sail", assisted by many paddles in the water, multi-leveled possessing an underdeck, put together using imported wood and pitch from the south and then finished with wooden Figureheads: usually carved Snakes, Elephants, Dinosaurs or Gorgons.

>+Accidentally adapted standardized weights and measurements+
>A long time coming- the increased need for ship-building and long-distance trading, has forced the acceptance of a standardized constant system of measurement: height, distance, length, etc.. it can all be formally measured now.
>+Economy is absolutely booming+

If we're not presently involved in trading with them, lets start the process, surely the elves would be interested in some of our fine cyclopean goods.

Now that the economy is booming, lets have some rich trader families become patrons of the arts, have them fund making decorative mosaics for their houses and public works. This'll probably make artistic pursuits flourish, improve our cultural 'wow' factor, and help financially elevate some poor cylopeans or gorgons. >Initiate an archaeological study of the ruined city and see if the any artifacts from it still retain any significance to modern Gorgon societies.
>Overwhelming Census in the face of excellent rolls.
>Success through Census

Further Archaeological study of the ruined Gorgon City has lead to new and exciting developments that peer closer into the initial pre-colonial culture of the Gorgon species.

>Magically inept Culture
For all intents and purposes it seems as though the Gorgons were initially an incredibly magically inept civilization: lacking any formal hymns, chants, or any cultural equivalent that could have lead to anything resembling "Magic". For whatever reason- possibly ?unnatural origins? something within their biology makes them physically far too sensitive towards magic and as a result they had developed methods to work around it.

>+Electrum Accidentally discovered+
Electrum is an advanced metal-working technique from ancient Gorgon Civilization. Using a unique recipe of Silver and Gold combined with their Master Goldsmithing practices they would smelt and forge mediums of Electrum that could be used to efficiently channel, store, and safely express even the weakest of Hymns for long term use and benefit.

>+Advanced Fertility Practices+
Gorgons naturally reproduce through parthenogenesis: a flawed reproductive strategy that lead what was known as "Devoid of unique souls" and most likely contributed to magical and genetic problems. Ancient Gorgon civilization seems to have circumvented this through numerous Fertility practices: The Worship of fertility goddess supply divine assistance, the development of herbal remedies and supplements, and a Carma Sutra of sorts written in stone depicting many... "Techniques".

>Try to open up discussion with the Parrats
>1/20 (Cyclopes), 14 (Gorgon), 12 (Parrat)
>Complete failure. +Gorgons win+

Some of the Sages feel responsible or at the very least GUILTY about making Parrats intelligent and awakening them to the sounds and songs of the world. The mind can be a heavy thing to bear and the Sage council wish to extend a hand of Parental support to their "children" in the form of Fruit, Nuts, and gifts to lure their favor....

They eat everything, they poop everywhere, the breed with non-sapient parrats to produce sapient offspring (the mind being a dominant trait) and the worst thing is that the OLD GROWTH respect law has them moving even closer to home: poopin' everywhere, stealing things, and laying down small noose traps people are getting their toes stuck in.

The Gorgon Wives however have grown a little impatient and old hatreds have begun to flare up, "We didn't have to deal with Parrats this bad on the mainland, why should we have to deal with them here?" They've brought an attitude that has spoiled the broth: Gorgon Rat Hunters are at all all time high, they're cooking and feeding parrats to their Cycloptic husbands, wives, parents, and siblings, and with the revival of Raptoring....Things aren't looking too good for diplomacy.

>+civilization development Secret Parrat Dens+
>This has lead to the counter development on the Parrats part to develop entire burrows, dens, and communities protected by Traps and various hazards in derelict or un-frequented spots. There, parrats mate, live, and frequent under the eye and claw of Cyclopes and gorgon.

A being so tall and upright it's shoulders and head peer over the jungle as it advances towards the City with an entourage of parrats riding atop it's shoulders and a visible cloud of birds encircling it's head like a halo.

The Great Titan inhales and exhales, "CAW, CAW- CAAAWWWWW" His mighty crowing echoes across the island before he raises his arms and slowly scatters into a cloud of birds and lizards.

>Suicide and a lost generation from a,twenty?
>Bs

I don't usually post "game mechanics" because I think it takes away from the game, but I'll elaborate on what non-spoilerey happened:
You genocided the Parrats so good that they asked for Divine intervention, with the combination of high-jacking a few of your own bad rolls they received a bonus.. but then they rolled a 69. Certain rolls receive +interesting results+ benefits attached to them simply by how rare or particular they are: Doubles, certain numbers, 7's, etc..

They used their roll to circumvent the fertility bonus you received here: >>37147959 Effectively "debuffing" killing/causing an entire "batch" of Gorgon babies to be still birth. Gorgons pride themselves on their sexual freedom and the quality of their "brood" due to their fertility-culture- To come home to ALL the babies having rotted into mush devastated many of them.

The Cyclopes are fine. The Gorgons you share space with aren't.
Bad Rolls. Bad Results. Individual actions don't exist in a Vacuum.

With that said I think this would be a good time to call it a night. It'll give people some time to calm down and collect their thoughts. I'll also store/post the Stats on a pastebin set up from now on.

I hope everyone had a great time and they don't let the Curse discourage them: Success is defined by perseverance in the face of adversity and this is one event among many.

I have to wonder. Is this a god of parrats? Or is it a god of Lizards and Birds? A Raptor God?

What makes a god?

Sentient things worshipping it? Or do the gods come first and make the sentients?

We just exterminated a race and their god gave us pay back. We should consider what this vengeance means.

This is a misstep in our culture. One that should inform our future.

We did wrong.

>Complete Success +Gorgon Hysteria, +Refound Gorgon Culture.

Hundreds of thousands of potential lives silenced at once, mothers call out to the world in anger and grief as some even silence themselves forever to join their offspring in what lies beyond and all throughout the islands the deafening harmony of sorrow, sadness, and hatred pollute the Songs of a Civilization.

Mothers, Fathers, Children, Gorgons, and Cyclopes- they all pray. They pray to the Cosmic Snake, they pray to this new Hydra fertility god, they pray to anyone who will listen in hopes that all this suffering and unkindness will end in someway or another.

It happens in the night. The stars shine so brightly, the constellations and formations of the cosmos twist and turn and from them beams of light twinkle forth and extend down from the heavens to the earth- spotlighting the homes and dwellings of where the Gorgon Mothers have lost their children.

Most are asleep, but the ones who are awake witness a great spectacle: The many heads of the ancient and once forgotten Hydra god descend her heads and maidens upon the earth within the wake of that holy lunar light- slithering into the homes of Gorgons and Cyclopes. There, she gently embraces those who have lost their children, consoles them, and mercifully guides and blesses one long, unhindered, eclipsed night of copulation.

The Light Fades, the maidens slither back into the night sky, and Mothers sleep soundly.
The proceeding days -not all- but many Gorgons wives stomachs and breasts have begun to swell and a new, fresh generation of Eggs are laid. Flawless. Healthy. But as of yet unhatched.
Who's to say if they'll be half-breeds, but hope and love remains.

I hope parrats still exist somewhere. You know. Seek forgiveness. I think we've expelled them from our islands (Or home island) but still. The world is a big wide place.

Of course if they do exist whatever god they have is probably warning them about us, the same way the cosmic snake warned us of the elves.

To think it all started with mad magiscience trying to make parrats intelegent enough to bug elves.

Honestly even the elves don't seem that bad any more. More aloof and insenstive than straight up facist magitech overlords.

The worst might be the Merfolk really.
>>
>>37151017
Merfolk are clearly isolationist. It's like Japan. Leave them alone.

The elves are just shipwrecked travelers who want to leave. This makes them inconsiderate about the indigenous races, as no matter how many enemies they make the elves will eventually leave them behind (they hope).

>>
>>37151048
You aren't wrong. If Merfolk are merely isolationist that might be great. But it seems they have a more malevolent entity at the head of their society, the Eye is what I'm worried about.

>>37151094
Every society has a shitty moment in their history. Things they do wrong, that they either try to move past, or live with; I mean, look at Germany.

We shouldn't let this experience change us, especially not into warmongers, but forgetting it ever happened is a bad idea too.

You know, we might get us a Tolstoy or Dostoyevsky out of this. Philosophical literature before its time.
>>
Can we stop ideas from going through if enough people oppose them? It seemed like a lot of people were against killing the Parrats.

>>
>>37151259
True. I just wasn't sure if counter-votes actually counted.
>>
>>37151351
Perhaps if we went with counter rolls instead?
I guess since we were discussing the whole ramifications of genocide, and perhaps trying to clarify what we wanted to do (IE like going for subjugation instead of outright genocide) we could've wound up with a split action similar to how the "Peace" situation worked out. IE with the cyclopses rolling one but the gorgons rolling 14 to deal with the parrats.

Honestly it might not hurt to explain how arguments/contrary rolls would play out OP. Not just for this case but maybe other situations, like say
>Send an army north to confront the elves.
vs
>Send an army south to confront the dwarves
Again these are examples but it serves the point.
What do we do with conflict in the thread?
