How would you explain our world and it's problems to an innocent denizen of a magical fantasy realm where the worst thing is a Disney-tier villain or monster.
>>
>>37132287
Use Star Wars as a reference point and work from there.
>>
Bad things frequently happen to good people for a variety of reasons outside their control.
>>
>>37132287
"We grew up in a world where everything is trying to kill us and got way too used to it. So much so, in fact, that we start to get weird if we go too long without hurting something.

It's not somewhere you want to be, but it's how we grew up. How lucky you are, child...."
>>
>>37132287
I come from a world where there isn't enough to go around and there's no such thing as karma. All the little things you do and that happen to you have almost nothing to do with each other. Bad people win the lottery as often as good people. Good people get hit by lightning as often as bad people. The world does not care about you, but the people around you can.

So what people do is they work their hardest to make their life better, and the lives of those they care about. But since there isn't enough to go around, and some people are born better than others, and some people happen to be luckier, some people end up with a lot more than other people, and this breeds resentment.

Humans want a fair world, but it isnt' fair, so they try to make it fair. They try to be the arbiters of right and wrong to make the world better because it is better when everyone works together. There are more people alive and fed today then there ever were before. Sometimes this means giving to charity to feed the poor. Other times it means stealing.

And that's just on a personal level. Humans group together in countries. They throw their fates in with one another and hope for the best. And then you get that same human behavior out of machines made of people. They prioritize themselves because you can't trust the other person to prioritize you, even if it would be better for both of you. So they use force, they use lies, they use everything they can because there is no honor in losing.

All the good people lost, and now we put our fortunes in the hands of swindlers and brutes because that's the safest bet in this world. But it leads to a stranglehold on wealth because the rich don't want to give it up, and they're the only ones with the power to make themselves give it up, so the wealth gap becomes permanent until violence shakes it up.

In short, we have no honor, we dont' trust each other, and bad things happen to good people. But look how far we've come.
>>
Where I'm from, there is no Phoenix Down, no Mana, no healing spells. All the bad guys won a long time ago and people are all trying to pretend that everything is normal and ok. Nobody can really do anything about it, but nobody really cares.
>>
>>37132287
You treat them like a child.

No seriously, they have no reference point or understanding of what you're trying to tell them. It's like trying to picture 2 billion marbles. You can't imagine that many, you just imagine a room full, or similar large amount.

Now take that and apply it to horrific things, even humans can't accurately imagine the myriad of ways insane numbers of people die or suffer every day. You're best starting small and working up from there, constantly stating how awful our world is as you teach them and expand their view/imagination. Also most of the answers you give to any question they ask will be shit, and often come down to "I don't really know."

Basically, it's sort of hopeless unless you have a decent length of time to do it in, otherwise you may as well go "Imagine the worst world possible, that's this one, just not everyone is suffering at the same time."

There is a monster inside everyone, capable of greater acts of cruelty than any villain you can name. Most people keep that monster on a leash. Some people's monsters are hardly there.
Most monsters just say, "look the other way" when some preventable evil occurs.
But everybody is capable of being that monster, and you can't tell by looking at the people around you if this person is a rapist, or that person beats their child. The worst people can be the most attractive. The most heinous actions happen not because evil people are powerful, but because those evil people can convince others what they're doing isn't evil. How do you know what you're fighting for, or allowing to happen, is for the good of your fellow man?
But there's no prelude to every-day evil, either - the car-jackings and stick-ups that end with one person bleeding their life out into the ground. The senseless deaths without human intention - car accidents, diseases that rot the brain, cancers, congenital defects.
There's no certainty in regards to evil, and that terror prevents much good, and often hinders what good actions people dare to attempt.

Anons, the only reason you think Earth feels like Hell is because you sit around expecting it to feel like Heaven. I don't know what I'd do if bad things didn't happen, maybe boredom and lack of meaning is why Adam bit the apple.
But, yeah, I don't think I would explain those thing to someone who won't see them.

Dude, disney villains are hardcore.

It's the rare person who can call up spirits from the afterlife to curse people who come to them for help, or to honestly want to destroy the world / a kingdom / an innocent life for no reason other than "for the lulz." Shit, Disney's the company that keeps coming up with eternal true-evil darkness characters actually bothering with destroying Christmas, ending happiness, and ruling over a world of hate and misery.

I tell him it's like their world, only instead of big bad evils we're infested by a tiny smaller evils. Noone's trying to destroy all of creation and the boogeyman really is just a boogeyman, but at the same time the skies aren't so bright and the grass doesn't seem so green sometimes.

I'm not saying Earth feels like hell to me, I'm trying to show how someone who lives in the disneydimension might see our world. They lack a lot of shit from which to extrapolate, you're asking them to look at a world with no magic powers or friendly woodland critters and understand it when we're fundamentally different from the ground up.

OP's question is all about how you get someone to understand. Well you don't get understanding without work and at least a little teaching/experience. If you aren't schooling someone on our world (or don't have the benefit of time to teach them about it) then just asking them to imagine the shittest thing possible and going "Yeah it's kind of like that." is the best way forward, since it'll only be a poor assumption/view of our world, but at least then you get across a lot of shitty stuff before you start explaining the decent bits.

However, saying our world isn't hellish in places when people are starving to death or quite literally burst into bloody contaminants because of disease is just being silly.

I... I don't...

Well, let's put it this way: we don't have magic to solve our problems, our heroes and villains depend on which side you're on, and wishes don't come true just by believing.

The biggest difference, though - we don't get Happy Ever Afters. We just get the next chapter.

>>
>>37132287
The thing is, there's no Good and Evil that everyone agrees on. Some people think they're heroes and other people are villains, but the other people might think they're the good guys and the first group are villains. And there's no way to know which side is really right but going with your heart, and your heart's sometimes wrong. Good things happen to bad people, and bad things happen to good people, and there doesn't appear to be any force behind it but the luck of the dice.

And there's limited stuff to go around, and since almost everybody thinks they're the good guys and they deserve their stuff more than the other guys, there's an awful lot of disagreement about who should get what - and there's just not enough to give everybody what they want. And sometimes two whole nations want the same thing so badly they're willing to hurt each other for it - and the people living in that nation care about it so much they're willing to die for it. A lot of people die like that. Less than they used to, but still too many, and there's not really any way to stop it. If any one nation tried to back out of the whole deal and stop constantly being ready to hurt people who tried to take their stuff, everybody else who was still ready to hurt people for their stuff would come in and take it.

And the worst thing is, you can't trust everybody. That's the big thing. If the two of you want something, unless you know each other real well already, you can't just make a deal to share it - because the other guy can't trust that you'll really take your fair share and not hurt them, and you can't trust the other guy, and so there are huge books of rules that have to be put up about what you can and cannot do, and it's still not enough to stop people doing bad things because some people just don't care about the rules. And an awful lot of time they get away with it - and sometimes they're even right, and the rules are wrong, because the rules are written by people too.

"I come from a faraway land, yes, further than the dwarves, and the elves, and even further than the Edge of Mount Glass, home of Ivan the Terrible, Bloodtaker of the Innocent. Yes, I know that is said to be the edge of the world. But just trust me, I am from further still. The space between me and Ivan's fortress is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of the way. For I come from another world entirely.

Yes, I am still a human, young one. We were all humans, back home. No, I do not know the reason why I look similar to the humans of this land. I just do.

Once every few generations, a new evil rises and sends this world into a new near-dark age, only to be defeated at the last moment by one to five brave adventurers...We do not have that. More often than not war is simply conflict between cultures. But there is evil, do not get me wrong child, there is unimaginable evil living in the hearts of many men and women in my world. And most are able to hide it well, for my world has no magic, no obvious godly power, and almost no justified war.

That is not to say they are less evil than Ivan the Terrible, Bloodtaker of the Innocent. No, there are many just as wicked as him, most just do not have the power to seize control like Ivan did. Evil is not born of power, child, it can be born in many forms. Desperation, love, lust, greed, and many other things you would only ever really see in a terrible overlord like Ivan.

And so, with no obvious "evil" to compare ourselves to, many men and women have become wicked. Or more to say, many are indistinguishable from your everyday farmer, or anyone else. Because unlike here, the punishment for crimes are much less severe, and so they see no good reason to split off from the rest of society and form their own encampments. To become bandits.

In some ways my world is infinitely better than this one. In others, child...in others it is so much worse."

This came out edgy as fuck.

There was once a man.

He wanted to be an artist. A painter.

He tried hard to make art that he enjoyed, and that people would love him for.

But nobody listened.

Nobody cared. They laughed at him.

So he became angry. And he began to hate them.
He turned into a monster.
And with his words, he made others angry too. Many others. Many of them turned into monsters too. And they did monstrous things.

And when the people of the world saw his man and what he was doing, they too had to become monsters to stop him. And when he was finally dead, we had noting but new, bigger monsters to worry about. And it has been like that ever since.

The alternate world was smaller than the natural world and you could actually see people being transformed into the subjugated masses and copious monsters in the cinematics. All of his new friends were treading psychosocial and emotional water in this fantasy world, that worked actively in manipulating their thoughts and memories and hampering their change as people.

It was objectively worse, by every conceivable measure. The only possible good thing to do was reverse what happened. Complacency was evil. Support was extremely evil. /v/ can suck a thousand dicks, if they had any critical ability they would actually talk about their hobby and not fall to /pol/'s clumsy tactics. You shouldn't trust their (collective) analysis of any plot or opinion on any media. Marche was written as a hero and he acted as a hero within his story.

>>37133762
That's stupid and extremely inaccurate. You can't blame all of the world's evils on Hitler. You can't even entirely blame Hitler on Hitler, without the existing racism and political broiling in Germany no one would have listened to any of his ravings. Also, he didn't really try at art that hard. He gave up at the first sign of real rejection.

There have always been Hitlers here. And there will be Hitlers later. Scapegoating won't explain anything to anyone.

okay whatever

but the "serpent" still = satan, according to the NT.

>7 Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. Where I come from?
It was once a verdant land, of peace, serenity, and virtue. But every man carries with him a hidden lust, for bloodshed and hatred. We are a race of hate and vengeance, lies and deceit.
Our beautiful world is gone, destroyed by contant war, and the idea of progress, while noble, sheds not a tear for the land it ravages.

Imagine if the ancient evils your world had were alive and well, and imagine if they were in charge. Even if they could be defeated, the damage is already done. There are places in my world where you cannot go, places that burn in nuclear fire forever.

We are all slaves to evil onw way or another, whether through a visible threat, or by complacency. We do not make up the rules, we suffer until the next evil takes power.

I left that accursed place long ago, some here would question why I would abandon my brothers and sisters in need.
Well, the worst part of my world is that no matter what you do, nothing will change. We live under constant fear, we are delusional, we are trapped in an iron fist.

You wonder why my blade never leaves my side, why even in my old age I still train to fight, why even in peace I still prepare for war. It is because I believe that my world still has hope, and I am prepared to give my life so that it may be free one day.
I look upon this beautiful world, and hold my blade up high, proclaiming that the same fate humanity suffered shall not happen again.
>>
>>37132287
You know how the most evil villain here eventually gets taken out by some great hero?

In my world the hero's are all more villains trying for power. The brightest lights don't have power and the most we hope for at the top is a lighter shade of grey.
>>
>>37132287
And they lived happily ever after happens in our world. It's how it ends for most villains. Rich, at the top of an organization, or a kingdom, whatever their dreams were, with powerful friends and loyal followers who will crush anything for them.

There are no dragons demanding virgin sacrifices, no dark gods summoned to consume the planet. Instead everyone is slowly, slowly squeezed to death, every day just a tiny bit worse than yesterday. A tiny bit less food on your table, a few more leaks in your roof, more people murdered in a nearby town, and your services, protections, rights and freedom shaved away by precise carpenters of fate, who make every little cut look and feel like the truest acts of good and selflessness, forever defended by the very people paying their tithes and taxes and making those who would decry the losses seem like monsters.

So, Sometimes, some people like to take special poisons that rot them away down to the bone, to help them forget the pain for a short time.

Heck, I bet dis little git doesn't know what a carnivore is.

Floating rock covered in saltwater and dirt and 3/4 of it actively wants to murder you.

Our villains pretend to be the victims and if you say anything against them, they will not only punish you, they will also make everyone else think you are the bad guy.

Our heroes are only heroes because they won.

Our leaders are incompetent and powerless.

And the only way we can fix our problems is through a maelstrom of death and insanity.

But at least we can distract ourselves from our awful lives with games.

You know, that's part of why the idea of "morally superior" races putting us on trial has always irked me.

Because time and time again, they know NOTHING about what it is to live the lives we do, and in many cases, they're from worlds that actively helped them along.

the problem with 13 was that its system was kinda watered down by the "Auto-Attack" feature, which kinda sucked alt of the decision making from the fight aside from the occasion boss battle.

>BBEG in the making
>>
>>37137056
Auto battle sucked. If you used it, it was your own fault.
>>
>>37137086
the problem though is that alot of combat encounters were designed with Auto-Battle in mind and were thus non-condusive to the alternative.
>>
>>37135297
I think the biggest problem was that he didn't introspect or discuss motives at all.
I've heard arguments for why he looks like a douchebag for shitslapping everyone with problems and undoing the fantasy and would look less dickish if he had a problem, but also the argument that it's important that he have no problems to be the only clearheaded one.
Basically, the problem is that he goes directly from "The world is maybe a magic illusion made by that one book, but everyone is reasonably happy" to "I MUST KILL BOOK" instead of the intermediate steps of "But is it really worth it" and "What happened to most of the population" and "Where did the monsters come from" and "If it's not really real, is it real happiness?"
>>
>>37137134
Auto battle was designed for the first part of the game where there was little enemy diversity and you had access to barely any magic and no limits/eidolons.

After you get options it was a bad play, useless for anything but clearing the last enemy of a battle.

A long time ago there were two brothers named Cain and Abel. Out of jealousy one brother killed the other and the ball has been rolling wildly ever since then.
People kill each other for money, for women, for power. Out of greed or jealousy and for every reason you can think of that exists under the sun. They march women and children into town centers and kill them all because they believe in something that the men with guns don't. They slaughter indiscriminately and reduce countries to a warzones .
In my world we have something called war. It's nothing like yours where a brave king leads from the front and there's ugly monsters on the other side. It's when old rich men send children to die for them, sometimes for the right reasons and sometimes for reasons that are so impossible to grasp the men on the ground can't hope to understand why they're dying
We still have heroes. Good men from all walks of life that while more flawed than anything you have here still helped turn the tide if only a little. It sounds hopeless but it's taught us a very important thing. A story ends when we say it does. All it takes is one good person and you can save the world, if only a bit of it at the time.

Our world is not like yours. We have no magic, no heroes ready to save the world. In some ways, your world is worse than mine. Sometimes the monsters aren't visible like a bloodthirsty werewolf. Some monsters are blended in easily. There is a monster in every human heart that longs to be set free, and it wouldn't take the form of a monster with claws and fangs. Sometimes it'll take form of a bloodthirsty tyrant.

Not many people will do anything unless it's too late or it affects them. Especially the latter because usually everyone looks out for themselves. Unless you profit in someway, nothing good will happen. Or someone will profit from it.

The world doesn't care about if you're a good person, little moggle. It cares about what it can get from you. That's the way society is set up. Speaking off society, the main problem is society. It has taken some falls in its moral fibber, and will probably get worse along the way.

You might ask why there's so many evil men and women in power, and why no one does something about them. The truth is, sometimes you can't. With their wealth and connections, some people are untouchable.

But that's not to say they are truly powerful. Imagine this: a man causes trouble for a secret society that rules the world, and it's leader have got him in their hands, in front of them. He's dead, no if nor buts about it. No magic to bring him back, and no one will learn of the society's existence. But he smiles and it throws them off. He tells them that he has body backed a bomb and it's about to go off soon, and the explosion will kill them too. Nay, the whole building. Even the man with all of the wealth and power in the world is still a man. He can die, be burned to death, bleed to death for pleasure just like anyone else. They're not gods.

True, we might just get another monster and learn nothing, but that's life. No human is perfect. No mortal is perfect. We all have flaws, little moggle. cont.
>>
>>37152069
Every human has the capacity for true evil, but also good. There is the worse in the best of all, and the best of the worse of us. You might ask what kind, loving god would allow this, but ask yourself this; did your parents do everything for you. God knows that humans are perfectly imperfect, we can't help that. We just try not to mess up as much.

Some people do horrible things for good reasons, sometimes not. If society could take a good look at itself, throw out all of the idiots and the corrupt that make everything worse, we'd be a lot better. And the world is not as bad as it sometimes looks like. It's a grey area. There are truly good people in this world, doing good deeds anonymously. The world is a beautiful place, but every rose has its thorns.

Little moggle, are you perfect? Ask yourself that. You know the answer. Neither are humans. We're flawed creatures, but why do some people keep going on? Because they have faith in humanity. Faith that no matter our race and world's flaws, there will always be good in people. And maybe faith is just enough. Care to look at the stars, or rather go back to your world?

Oh now, I think ya'll might be goin over the fuzzball's head.

Fact is life always hits ya with a lot of pain. Most the time, ya can't get out of the way, so all you can do is let it hit ya right in the face.

Now I tell you what, you can let that beat ya, ya'll can lay down and call it a life, just die and try again. Or you can get up and live. That's the proper way ta win at life. Not beatin some demon lord. Just live.

Basically, a portal to a fantasy realm that is a cross between Final Fantasy and LOTR opens in downtown Tokyo. After the fantasy empire is pushed back by modern weapons, Japan counter-invades to secure the other world for its resources.

It's got elves, bunnygirls, nagas, dragons, drow, demons, empires and lots of tits.
