There has been a lot of Star Wars lately. I approve.

What is JAMQ: XCOM meets the Jedi Order. Take the role of a Jedi leading a new Jedi Temple during the time of the Old Republic. Part RPG Quest, Part Civ management Quest.

Last thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/37098828/

Twitter: @JedayyMaster

You are Jedi Academy Master Akiva, in the time of The Old Republic Jedi Grand Master Zym has tasked you with starting a new Jedi Temple should something horrible happen to the Jedi on Coruscant. You are a Jedi Consular with experience as a diplomat who wields two sabers (one green, one yellow).
Last time you organised your prefab constructions, supplies and picked up a sacred holocron. You also had a look at ALL THE SHIPS before finally landing on a Defender Class light Corvette, callsign Warden-1. It is modified with a prisoner transport bay rather than a medical bay. You also met up with all your Jedi Knights, Vash to some pokes at Tax's ego but you calmed the situation and named Tax your Saber Master to train your new Jedi.

You have no official business in the capitol and you are ready to deploy towards Enarc III. The plan currently stands as taking your three knights and their hangers-on to Enarc III in Warden-1 , secure a location before having your Padawans and Prefabs brought in on heavy transports.

However, that is another day. Life day celebrations are on the horizon and you are faced with a number of choices?

A quick selection through the Hangar controls while your still down near Warden-1 informs you that getting a suitable medical bay for the Defender is difficult since they haven't fully entered service. Estimations put it a month after life day.

can't we just convert it in to storage space and get a construction droid jammed in there

That does seem possible. It'd be a tight fit but you believe you could get the prisoner bay converted to a cargo bay to hold the construction droid of one set of your supplies before Life Day is over. Allowing you to leave straight after the celebration.

Then that does sound like an acceptable compromise.

You organise to have the prisoner transport bay swapped out and some large access doors installed allowing you to use what was formally cells and restraints as a cargo bay to transport supplies. You opt to have the construction droid loaded as well as basic survival supplies to help the other Jedi and yourselves explore Enarc III once you arrive.

This takes time and you end up remaining in the Temple for the Life Day celebrations.. Overall the celebration is a wonderful success and everyone is in high spirits.

Two days after the celebrations conclude you are informed that your ship conversions are complete and your supplies loaded. The next morning you make your way down to the hangar bays, a small droid carrying your personal effects, meager as they are, ready for loading.

When you arrive the hangar is quite busy. Numerous spacers run about the hangar, checking hydraulics and customising tool preferences to meet their own personal styles. Caja is standing over the comms dish atop the ship with a welder in her hand and another spacer by her side. She sees you enter offers a sweeping wave and shouts something in Rodian you don't quite catch.

Vash and the two Padawans are over the the hangar controls, investigating the terminals and other parts with wide eyed interest. You see Kianda and Lucius nearby carefully loading some smaller crates. Tax shoulders past everyone, her scarred visage clearing most out of her way as she loads heavy tool crates.

A small cluster of heavily armed bounty hunters stand near the hangars outer exit, pointing at the mismatched freighters and fighters that fly past, making shooting motions and small explosions with their hands. A Quarren wearing a flak vest with a pair of black-steel cybernetic legs stands in their center.

Finally Master Aldretch and Grand Master Zym are waiting at the base of Warden-1 having what appears to be a happy conversation.

>What do?

We already purchased a small clinic but we have no cells so I'm sorta against replacing it on our ship.

The din of the hangar makes it difficult to hear anything the spacers say to you so you opt to ignore Caja, surely this isn't the most complicated ship she has ran. You approach Zym and Aldretch, offering Vash and the Padawans a short wave as you make your way across the hangar. Vash and Eskol return it, the Mon Cal padawan appears shy.

Zym smiles behind his antiox mask and Aldretch offers you a respectful nod as you enter the conversation.
“A good ship, those cannons will put holes in most things between here and Enarc.” Agrees Aldretch appreciating the armament of Warden-1. Zym nods happily.
“That's why I've organised another hundred for the order. It makes me happy to get your approval Master Aldretch.” He replies with some sass. You smile at their banter.

“So, you seem ready to embark Academy Master, how do you feel?” Inquires Zym

You grin at the masters before turning to the hangar. You look backwards at them with a wind.

“There's only one way to find out. EVERYBODY ON!” You announce causing the spacers to stop in their tracks in confusion. The Padawans are the first to snap out of their stupor, sprinting towards the ship with a youthful excitement, jumping over obstacles in their way. Vash is jogging close behind.

The spacers being decoupling refueling lines and waving out various senses. Caja drops down beside you like some sort of gymnast, nearly knocking Zym from his feet. She gives the masters a wink and slips past you, hopefully making a beeline for the pilots chair.

“We'll you never one to wait Akiva, I see no reason to keep you.” Says Zym confidently. Aldretch nods in agreement. “Go with the force, our future may rest in your hands.” He gives you a hug in a very un-masterly like way before jogging away from the ship. Aldretch bows as the bounty hunters arrive at the rear hatch. The Quarren growls his way past the tall jedi master and appears to pay you no mind as the heavily armed warriors climb into the ship.

You wave off Zym and Aldretch as you climb up into the ship, one of the last to do so with a young human spacer, barely a teen, closing the rear hatch behind you. “Hatch two closed boss. Hornmaster is aboard.” She speaks quickly and clearly into a throat mic. She notices you behind her, ducks her head embarrassed before shooting off down a hallway.

You make you way into the central living chamber to find it chaos, Jedi try to move past bounty hunters as spacers hastily close open access panels. Just when it couldnt get any worse, in ships intercom bleeps into life.

“Attention all passengers, this is your Pilot speaking. Hold onto yo' butts!” Whoops Caja as the Defender gives a probably out-of-regulation boost out of the hangar.

Once the movement of the ship calms down (hopefully Caja clearing system security properly.) you decide to take stock of the situation. It appears that the eleven spacers are just a few too many crew for the vessel but they appear to be making up for the fact by cataloguing anything they can get their hands on and running diagnostics like the ship might fall apart at any moment. The bounty hunters and your jedi are clogging up the central living area with nowhere to go and don't really appear to be enjoying eachothers company, Eskol is looking up wide eyed but Tax is glaring down a particularly tall Trandoshan in the center of the room.

>>37122280
They have to know. They're our only other support for right now, at least until we get additional assets (like the Jedi Service Corps). We can get them to run impromptu security for now, and once we get everything else established, they can be our eyes and ears abroad in the galaxy, since we'll be in a remote location.
>>
>>37122280
>But they can't possibly know we're building a new temple.
That's going to be kind of hard to do, what with them being the support staff and helping to run perimeter checks, dealing with the incoming students, helping to set up the facilities, and generally being everywhere they're needed.
>>
>>37122252
Who knows, they might be better than conventional soldiers. Maybe.

>>37122255
They were supposed to man your ship. That being said, what 'Unconventional assets' you got was random. This way you have a trained crew rather than a cobbled together crew from who you have.

>>37122258
Again, Caja said she was just waiting for you to have a ship available for her. However if you get one for her, I'm sure she would love to have it.

>>37122259
You have a good feel for your knights at this stage and you've heard Vash mention flying fighters before but 'nothing this big.' Tax has ran support on some capitol ships but not on the helm. Kiandra prefers gravity.

Jedi in the cargo seems to be the consensus. Writing.

You grab Kiandra, the closest Jedi and ask her to take the Padawans into the cargo bay. She nods and grabs Vash as well. You see Lucius in a great display of bravery puts himself between the Trandoshan and Tax, but this only gets him shoved away by the only teamwork the pair seem interested in showing.

“TAX! CARGO BAY! NOW!” You shout, with a little anger. The Mon Cal nods and appears to forget the big lizard exists as she marches from the room. The Trandoshan likes its lips hisses quietly. 'Duke', the quarren steps up and starts kicking his men into gear, ensuring they get their potentially dangerous gear stowed. He gives you a small, professional nod. Which you return.

You make your way up to the bridge, giving the Jedi in the cargo bay a few moments to cool down. When you arrive you can see Caja navigating through orbital traffic in a questionably legal manner. Two rodians man the co-pilot and navigator seats while the human girl you saw earlier is leaning on the comms console.

“Howdy Master 'Kiva, apparently the temple got us priority clearance so we can pass through whatever traffic we wish. Anyway, you want me to gun it for the Corellian Run or head for the Hydian way?” Caja explains.

We're not quite on a timetable right now, but this ship is too small for the people on it, so the faster the trip, the better. As well, we don't exactly want a lot of people spotting a prototype Jedi ship crossing space. Plus, we'll have plenty of time to explain the mission while making jumps.

“Hydian Way please Caja, and for our sakes, fly casual.” You plead as you point out the rows of ships in the staging area, running their navigation diagnostics. She nods and slots you into the next available slot between a Dynamic class and a stange alien freighter that looks like a cone with engines. She begins techno-babbling to her bridge crew as they make the required calculations for the jump to lightspeed and organise their clearences.

“You got it boss, we should be underway in about twenty minutes if this line clears up properly. Duro's can merge to save their skins.” She grumbles. You ask her to head down to the meeting room after the ship is underway and she nods absentmindendly.

You make your way down from the bridge into the circular living area and find it replicating a forward-operating-base more than the central space of a starship. The Trandoshan appears to have claimed the sofa and is laying down kicking its feet whilst a pale human hunter tries to clip a hardcase in place nearby. A droid with a compact repeater is speaking in quick tones with Duke who is attempting to silence it with decisive hand movements.

You pick your way across to the Quarren as the human hunter finishes securing their ordnance. He ducks his head and moves past you, making his way down a side corridor. The Trandoshan tracks you across the room as Duke turns to face you.

“Greetings 'Duke' is it?” You ask with a wary smile. The Quarren nods and clicks his pointed teath together.

“The same, thanks for the add-in on this mission. Should probe to be... interesting.” He replies, handing you a small card containing the bounty hunting licensees of himself and the other three hunters.

“There's going to be breifing in the meeting hall once we're under way. We can make proper introductions between all the teams once we're there. I just wanted to make an effort to say hello ahead of time.” You explain. The Quarren nods and taps his cybernetic legs together.

“Well, why don't you introduce me?” You ask looking about at the assembled killers. Duke shrugs and points at you with a clawed finger.

“Oi! You heap of bantha murderers, this is Jedi Master Akiva! She's our employer until I say so or she kills you.” He barks. He spins that clawed finger over to the Trandoshan.

“Thats Vek'assk, toughest bounty hunter I ever did find. Can take any terrain to make the shot.” He declares proudly. The Trandoshan spins to a sitting position and hisses again.

“This one has no love for the scars of your fish-woman. She is trophies on many walls Jedi.” He hisses. Duke shrugs before pointing at the droid.

“That PDO-7, or just PeeDee for short. He's our tech and watchdog.” The droid waves almost comically with a clamp like hand and a squee of static. It's satellite-dish like head has no eyes for you to make contact with but it appears to see you fine.

“Theyad the Pale is around here somewhere. But I'd imagine he's gonna try to stay away from your kind till we're all a bit more... acquainted. He's imperial raised on Jabiim and still can't shake the accent.” Explains Duke.

“And I'm 'Duke Boom' responsible father figure and family man to this band of nerfherders. Sixteen thousand credit bounty for me on Ord Mantell and you better believe these idiots have tried to claim it more than once.”

With that covered you invite him to the briefing before heading there ahead of time to plan things out. You elect not to inform Duke and Caja the exact details of the mission, so they don't get any outrageous ideas and you also decide that discretion is the better part of valour, making stealth your focus.

You elect to let everyone chat but they do need to get that information across. You ready the information on Enarc III and your supplies as the Jedi, Duke and Caja make their way in. Caja is the last through and she closes the door to the room behind her offering you some privacy. Tax, Vash and Kiandra sit on one side of the table with Lucius, Rogni and Eskol standing behind them. Duke sits alone on the other side with Caja sitting at the opposite head of the table to you.

You make the required introductions and everyone appears to get acquainted before you launch into the briefing proper.

“As you know we're headed to Enarc III, an unsettled planet in the Enarc System. Its a wild world made up of huge oceans, two continents covered in tall forests and sudden granite canyon as well as a third, volcanic continent on the southern pole. The close proximitiy to Enarc, a busy trading hub has meant that settling Enarc III has drawn little support.” You begin, providing a hologram of Enarc III for clarity.

“Our goal is to locate a suitable site on the planet to construct an outpost for the Jedi Order. We hope to act as a halfway house for Jedi in the field, giving resupply, safe haven and training for some initiates.” You explain. Kiandra gives you a quizzical look but Tax gives you approving nod. Vash appears to be hardly paying attention. Caja leans back, kicking her boots up onto the table. Duke nods thoughtfully.

“Very little surveying has been done on the planet aside for scanning for useful heavy metal deposits and fuel stores, of which there are none. Apparently the atmostphere is a standard oxygen mix, but the atmosphere is prone to powerful storms with a tendency to cause vast damage to flora and fauna.” You continue.

It's a giant planet after all with tough terrain.

That is only after we find a promising location.

“They'll be following us after a month. Unless I delay them.” You inform her. She nods as do all the others.

The sanest option. Spacers do what they do best, bounty hunters are good at tracking (and can't backstab anyone but themselves) and the Jedi runs the LZ

The bounty hunters should have the most experience in these conditions. Tell them to make safety the highest priority even if they lead stuff back to base. Our jedi should be able to deal with them.

Have the Jedi practice piloting, too.

I want to switch the Spacers with the Bounty Hunters once we're more settled in, though.

“The Spacers running security, the Bounty hunters exploring and the Jedi running the landing zone.”

Duke nods clears his throat. “We're good for it, I'm sure Vek would love to skin some space beasty and hang it from the side of the ship. Trando's are like that.” Everyone appears reasonably happy with this organisation but appears to have no interest in really socialising right now, the Jedi are eager to get back to some semblence of training their Padawans and Caja has the ship on her mind. Duke hangs back when everyone leaves, looking over the scans of Enarc III.

You have plenty of time while the ship is under way, what would you like to spend you time doing while you travel?

You elect to separate yourself from the rest of the crew, meditating and reflecting on the force in order to keep yourself balanced. The Jedi understand but it does draw a few bits on confusion from the unconventional help. Early on in your meditation something feels out of place. There is a complex and powerful presence of darkness aboard the ship. Initially you are quite concerned but after following you instincts you find a small gilded container in the cargo hold. Inside is the sacred holocron as well as a short holovid from Zym.

In the recording he explains that he hopes your temple will eventually become a true home for the Jedi and may even eclipse the splendor of the grand temple on Coruscant. He apologizes for not alerting you to loading th holocron but he needed to to be removed from the Jedi temple, since the rest of the council wanted it destroyed but he felt it needed preserving, so he opted to offer it to you for safekeeping. Which you unwillingly accepted. He apologizes again and the recording finishes.

You don't believe you will be able to center yourself until you have learned the secrets of the holocron but this may not be the place to do that. What do?

We don't know what's in it. All we know is that it's a sacred holocron - more important than regular holocrons - and that apparently this particular one was slated to be destroyed by the rest of the order.

It takes you some time, later you would told that you meditated for two days straight without movement before you gave any sense that you were making progress. Tax argued to break you out of it but Kiandra assured her that what you might learn surely would be for the benefit of all. You had no input, being comatose and all.

For you, the ship melted away. Hunger melted away. Life melted away. You existed only to comprehend the single glowing red light that existed in this glass and bronze window to the force. It bloomed and died like a stubborn ember in a long dead pyre and you coaxed it to life with your own mastery of the power that makes up the universe.

“I am Tarkin Maximus Stargazer. Sith Lord. And if you can here this voice, then I am already dead. But hear my words and know my truths, should you wish to see the force as it exists...”

Your mind is attacked by powers from beyond life. Tendrils made of force will extend from the holocron and attempt to peel away at your defences, but they are ancient and your are still full of life. You hold firm, pushing them back into their bronze prison until they are truly at bay.

And you dived into that little red ember. Tarkin is a knowledgeable sith, who experienced much of the ancient galaxy in his life. Disillusioned with the teachings of the Jedi Order he betrayed them for power and freedom only to find tyranny and hate with the sith. He admits guilt and remorse at his actions, witnessing a life back with the forces of good, like a hound locked outside of it's families home. Longing to return, but unable to form the words to ask, knowing they would fall on deaf ears.

The holocron is brimming with teachings on lost Jedi Knowledge but you can feel the pervasive tentacles reaching out you from time to time, while there is value, Tarkin is far from truly dead. As you begin to weaken from the exertion and hunger, the world comes crashing back...

And thats it for tonight. A slightly shorter thread tonight but I wanted to stop at a cliffhanger and I gotta go do real-guy stuff. Next thread will be out on Sunday evening, girlfriend permitting.

As normal I will be monitoring the thread for a while for casual input and shitposting. Thanks for playing, may the force be with you.

Ah. Well. Having the exact opposite of a headstart aside, I guess this guy is relatively okay. Enarc III represents the physical dangers that we must remain steadfast against, and Tarkin's force tentacles represent the spiritual forces we must remain steadfast against.
>>
>>37123464
Maybe we'll have him as a force ghost companion if we delve too much into the holocron.
>>
>>37123496
That's a dangerous road, though.
He'll mindrape us and take over our body at the first opportunity.
Regardless of him wanting to return to the Light, those tentacles attacking our defenses show he's still driven by the Dark Side.
>>
>>37124268
Or we fully redeem him and give him the acceptance he wanted so much in life. Or, it grants us a door to the dark side if we choose so. That's also fun to explore.

>>
>>37126953
Metaphysically, it doesn't work that way.

Technically speaking, even the Dark Side doesn't really exist. There's just the Force, which binds all life together into a tapestry in which every life form has its place. The 'Will of the Force' is the natural order of things - the way things will play out. You can either accept it, and live your life according to the wisdom the universe will share with you, or you can decide to be dissatisfied with reality and lash out like a petulant fucking child. That's the reality - no Sith is actually any cooler than Anakin Skywalker. They're all fucking manchildren, because BEING a Sith is all about going 'what I want is more important than what anyone else wants, because I have magic powers'. But magic powers don't solve everything - the universe is bigger than any one faggot. All of Anakin's power could have never saved Padme's life, and his failure to understand that marked his emotional immaturity and led him to the Dark Side.

Quicker? Easier? Yes. But more powerful? Power is an illusion. There is only the Force.
>>
>>37126989
Look we have access to fantastic abilities! I know let's sit back and meditate.

The force is a tool. Use it.
>>
>>37126989
That could be said of anyone who intervenes in any conflict who is apart of the "light" side of the force.

>>
>>37127055
But they're not acting out of personal desire. That's the difference. They set their needs aside and work towards a solution that benefits the most living things, and are encouraged to be slow to turn to the Force because it's a thing that shouldn't be employed lightly.

Now, whether the writing always reflects that is a separate argument.

>Zabrak
Why always the fucking Zabraks, one of these days, I'm gonna see a Transdoashan Jedi.

>>
>>37127104
And what is it you think you have accomplished? If you seek to aid everyone that suffers in the galaxy, you will only weaken yourself... and weaken them. It is the internal struggles, when fought and won on their own, that yield the strongest rewards. You stole that struggle from them, cheapened it. If you care for others, then dispense with pity and sacrifice and recognize the value in letting them fight their own battles. And when they triumph, they will be even stronger for the victory.

You cannot babysit the entire galaxy all the time. At one point you will falter, and find the people lacking, because they relied on you to an unhealthy measure. You robbed them of what they needed to become stronger on their own, and then dark forces exploit it and you become complicit in their schemes.

>Not selkath
>>
>>37127104
>But they're not acting out of personal desire.
That's debatable. The individual has to make the choice to take any action whatsoever. They're seeking their own desires, in this case to do what they perceive as good.

>Work towards a solution that benefits the most living things

Can you even manage to accomplish that goal? And really do you need to empower the majority even more? Surely the many are in a position to lord over the few.

Is the Jedi's role to protect the benefits of the minorities who are not able to withstand the wants of the majority?

In that same vein there is no will of the force because it is simply existence.

The only thing that moves and changes that existence is our desires.
