Connie laughs and shakes your hand. "Well, thank you! I guess you're certainly worth of this badge." She pins the badge on your shirt and smiles, then gestures to the plate of muffins. Yes! Muffins!

You take a blueberry muffin and resolve never to have an internal struggle about it. You split it in half and toss one to Trunks. He eats it in one bite. You savor yours. It's really, really good.

Clair takes another, blatantly ignoring that they're for winners only. Connie pretends not to notice.

Vance, Jeanine, and Robin congratulate you. There are friendly hugs all around.

Robin gets ready for her match. You know she's been training hard lately but she also seems to be lacking confidence, even for her.

You take your seat and give Robin a thumbs up when she looks in your direction. You get a smile in return.

You sigh dreamily and rest your chin on your hand.

Jeanine elbows you. "You two are adorable, I hope you know that."

You scramble to put on an indifferent face. You're either hot or lewd or scary or awesome or a dirty thief. Adorable isn't a word your used to having thrown your way.

"Adorable," Vance agrees.

Clair finishes scarfing down her muffin. "Yeah, even I have to admit you two are cute."

You decide not to fight it and settle it to watch Robin's match.

Robin creams her. It's not even a match, it's an absolute slaughter. First it's Meowth that her Golem beats in, then a Zigzagoon that her Joltik easily zaps, and...whatever that is that Robin somehow manages to take out with her Magikarp. You're pretty sure she was going easy on Connie with that last one.

"I uhh, used my most experienced Pokemon to start with," she explains as she hands Robin her badge and offers a muffin. "I have more, but they're with my kids helping them do chores..."

Robin looks incredibly uncomfortable accepting her badge and muffin. "That-that's alright. It was a fun experience."

Clair gets up and starts stomping towards Connie. You don't have to be psychic to know that she's not going to say anything nice. She's been less than respectful this whole time.

She arches an eyebrow.

Clair motions for you to look around. "She has no idea what she's doing. This place is way too small! She starts by destroying her own authority by asking if three are alright, she starts with her strongest instead of holding back and sizing you up, the spectator area is liable to make someome lose an arm, or worse, a muffin. Oh yeah, muffins! As a prize! What's that about? Not only that, she didn't stick up to me once! She's either too chicken to enforce her own rules, or too much of a kiss-ass to stand up to me because I'm a gym leader and she wants in!"

"Yes! My behavior was completely uncalled for an unacceptable!" Well, you can't argue with that. "Why should I help her?"

Clair sighs, then walks around you. "Connie, do you have a minute? I have some advice," Clair swallows. "If you don't mind."

Connie is ecstatic! She hangs on Clair's every (surprisingly constructive) word, taking down notes and asking Clair to go into specifics about a lot of the things she mentions.

"And another thing. I've seen your applications. They don't tell you this, but if you actually use for 14A you can make an extra appeal if your first doesn't go through. They like to see people take the initiative on that."

Robin joins in too. You'd almost forgotten her experience being groomed to take over her dad's gym. It feels like a lifetime ago.

Clair silently mouths that she hates you as Connie squishes her.

With that taken care of, it's time to head off. With no Pokemon centers around there's no quick way to help Dan get back on his feet, so to speak.

You decide to stick around town until tomorrow. Dan could use some rest and there's no big rush. You ask Connie if there's anything to do around town, or Pokemarts.

"Well, there's the general store on Main Street." There's more than one street? "They don't have much I'm afraid, but it does us fine most of the time. As for things to do, most young people around here tend to head over to Clairborough for fun. If you're looking for work though, the old mill can always use a more laborers. Lots of farmers around here are glad to get any help from trainers and their Pokemon too. They don't pay all that much, but room and board comes with it. If that's not your speed there's a small inn just down the road."

You're not hurting for money, but you haven't gotten any in for awhile either. You're used to sleeping on the ground, but beds are pretty nice.

Vance drops his stuff in his and Jeanine's room, then starts some zany routine around the back of the inn.

Clair gets her own small room next to yours. "I'm still exhausted. From battling to our little tour in each others heads to drinking and traveling, I'm done. Wake me up in the morning." You see her plop onto her bed. You close the door for her.

Jeanine and Robin come up. "We're going to work on one of the farms."

You look to Robin "You're not training?"

She smiles that self-conscious smile of hers. "I would, but I want to get some more money for the road."

You both know that you have more than enough earnings to get along just fine.

"Have fun!" You give her a quick peck on the cheek, then whisper in her ear, "Save a little energy for our private room tonight though."

"Y-you too!" Robin scurries off blushing. Ahh, the simple things in life.

You use a revive on Dan and let him rest in your room. He's happy to sleep on a small pile of blankets. "Thanks for your hard work today," you give him a soft pat and leave him to sleep.

It's not too late in the day. You can probably get two really good training sessions in at least.

You give your muscles a good stretch and head around back where Vance is. He's really working up a sweat. A few local women watch from a distance. You have to admit, if you didn't have Robin and Jeanine weren't in the picture you might be there right along with them.

Vance stops as you approach. "Hey, mind if I train with you and your Pokemon today? I haven't worked on anything new in awhile."

It's hard to say no when you recall you've also agreed to train him. You haven't held up your end on that for little while.

You make up a game. Raistlin watches.

"Alright. Sneasel, Vance you're going to steal something from Abra. Abra, I want you to hit Sneasel with Confusion after each Teleport. Don't worry, you can't hurt him."

Vance gets ready with Sneasel "Since Raistlin can Teleport, we need to work together buddy. Are you ready?"

Sneasel seems disinterested. He's looking at you, wondering what he's going to steal from your Abra.

As tempting as the bra is, you decide to leave her stuff alone for now and give Raistlin your Thunder Stone. It's not like you have anything particular in mind for it anyway. Sneasel seems decently tempted by it. Doubly so when Vance mentions it's pricey.

You look to Raistlin, then Vance and Sneasel. "Ready, set, go!"

Sneasel and Vance leap at the same time. Sneasel bounces off Vance's head, forcing him low. Raistlin easily teleports away before they get close.

Vance scrambles off the ground and charges right over Sneasel this time. Once again, Raistlin gets away. You note he's firing off a Confusion at Sneasel each time like you told him too. Awesome!

The farce goes on for awhile. Vance and Sneasel can't catch Raistlin no matter have hard they try. They're getting closer though.

Raistlin rests on a small stump, waiting for their next move.

"This isn't working. We need to work together."

Sneasel finally agrees.

They come at Raistlin again. This time Vance tosses Sneasel to close the gap. It's close! Raistlin is picking up speed too though, and manages to teleport before Sneasel connects.

Vance and Sneasel don't stop this strategy. Each time Vance throws quick, Sneasel flies faster, but Raistlin teleports out in the nick of time.

They huddle again. After reaching some sort of agreement, they try it one more time. Vance dashes then throws Sneasel. Once again Raistlin just barely teleports out. But there's a difference. Sneasel bounces off a tree that was behind Raistlin. He's already in the air when Raistlin tries teleporting again and manages to knock the Thunder Stone out of his hand.

Vance, Sneasel, and Raistlin look exhausted. That went on for a surprisingly long time.

Raistlin begins to glow. He's evolving!

Clair comes to her room window and looks down at you. "What do you want? I'm tired!" She sees the glow. "Oh. Oh!"

Vance sits up and watches. Even Sneasel can't help but be impressed. The pulsing glow from Raistlin increases and increases until it's nearly blinding. Clair comes down just in time.

You uncover your eyes and see a much bigger, awake Raistlin.

"Way to go!" You give him a hug. Vance and Clair join in.

"What's that? Don't worry, I have one right here." She pats him on the back and hands him a spoon. "You're welcome!" If only she was that considerate to people. Still, it's nice.

Raistlin walks around a bit for the first time, adjusting to having open eyes and supportive legs. Eventually he gets used to it. He looks pretty tired. You give him one more hug before letting him back in his ball.

Clair yawns. "That's pretty much the only acceptable reason to wake me up. I'm going back to bed." She pauses before heading back in. "Thanks." Clair leaves.

Vance pats you on the back now. "Thanks isn't a word she says often. What's next?"

While I disagree that the quest is "aggressively mediocre" do keep in mind the overall quality of quests. Most of them are utter shit. Gobble works hard, runs often on a consistent basis and has decent writing based around a popular franchise. The /u/-boating and humerus lewds also bring a larger following. All in all, its not massively surprising there is a lot of people who love it.

As a result it compares favorably with other quests, especially those in this franchise. Someone actually went through and rather accurately rated the recent/current pokemon quests.

Guy who made the ratings, here. All of the Pokemon quests have their strengths and weaknesses. Problem is, nobody provides constructive criticism or cares to improve them.

Gobblemon, PSS and Medievalmon all have qms that care about the quests. It isn't the responsibility of anons to improve the quests, of course, but if you like any of them at all then offering the qms advice would go a long way.

I would also put a higher rating on pss, mostly because Herald takes the time to talk to his playerbase on a more personal level in a chat room. I would recommend that you join in, the people who joined in there are pretty awesome.
