You have always wanted to be an emperor. That ambition has burned dimly in the past, tempered by reality. Now the opportunity to realise your ambition has arrived and you are determined not to let it slip. Now is the time to build your empire and become an emperor.

Last Thread: You are Imperator Talon York and you rule your own small empire, but you are not yet the emperor you dream of being… yet. Last thread you managed the hell out of your empire.

Rolls are d20 and the best of the first three posters. I may sometimes ask for more dice to be rolled by each player, but same rules apply otherwise. Please quote the post you are voting for or rolling against. Note there are hard-to-replace points that can be used to offset failures in rolls. Okay, after confronting the numbers you now have 500TBY and a pretty huge military by the end of the timeskip (92,000 soldiers). Including your garrison, you have about 180,000 soldiers, which is a pretty huge number. It's also a bit of a drag on your budget, producing a yearly deficit of around 200TBY without one-off costs. Luckily you can just turn the foundries off to avoid that, so you're not really in deficit. Salaries are becoming a big drag given your large permanent military, to the extent you might need to look at lowering them like the Guard and other nations presumably do to maintain wartime armies of the size they do. That might become an event.

It also might be a good idea to move some units to garrisons, like HMAA. Not sure if anybody wants to spend anymore money just yet. You can technically spend your way to about -900TBY without negative consequence and -1800TBY without severe negative consequences.

I'm practically done. Lots of discussion left to be done I feel. I'll be stepping out for a few hours shortly but will be back and may or may not write some slice-of-life stuff if anybody is here then.

>>37078398
Well, participation used to be better regardless. I ran for 16 hours once and I swear there were more active players then than some other times now. Some of the sessions I ran at normal time also got pretty poor interaction.

not just yet

>It also might be a good idea to move some units to garrisons, like HMAA.
that knocks us down from 92000 to 85000...

Also, with the size of salaries, I think we might as well sell the HMAA gear, but keep those soldiers (equip them with MMK)

Yeah, that's another thing. You'll need more generals and a Lord General might not be a bad idea. That way you can have somebody with the authority to manage a war front.

Dragon Knights is basically just a unit of young dragons in humanoid form. Let's just say that Kyria has a few friends hanging around. You could ride them, given that they're pretty small at their ages.

>>37078520
You mostly conquered existing territory so it does make a certain amount of sense. Most of your soldiers are green as grass, too.

I don't think we have someone worthy of the title yet actually. Finn in a few years and some general experience and Lynn is about the only ones I'd put at lord general. Unless we find like Napoleon under our bed one morning.
>>
>>37078590
>Also, you guys should probably discuss whether you want to have stronger garrisons near the Guard borders

Yeah that sounds like a good plan. I'm getting worried about poor Termina sitting up there.

Get Termina, Fortun and Baccia all loaded up nicely. Hyrim as an auxiliary force for either Termina or Baccia. Rely on Shropham's might and stronger garrison to ward off attacks on that side. And thank the gods that the League shares more border with the Guard then we do, as they wouldn't dare incite them further.

inb4 Ember gets madness up in his head again and begins wrecking the Guard's leftmost side.

is there a reason not to?

near the guard? fortun looks good to me. reason being that we should defend there while taking them from the right and sweeping leftward to minimize our border size... Or maybe we should maximize it so we can combine falling back on some areas while focusing on others for a divide and conquer?

Just so you know, the question is whether to build it in the next 2 years at the end of the timeskip
Aspirt confirmed in >>37078590 that we are taking the terraine pop during the timeskip

So on the issue of Lord General...
Are we willing to make this a permanent position, or is it only awarded during times of war? In either case, who should we pick?
>>
Oh hey! Idea for project!

Looking through the

>>37079032
>I don't think so. It mostly just is screwy magic wise which doesn't help with building
no it isn't, there is nothing screwy about it, its just MASSIVE POWER all over the place, resulting in standard equipment literally exploding from being overloaded, and has to redesign it all to be much more durable to handle the extra power. Once we have it, we will unlock research for using that extra power.
As for what we can do with extra power, take a look at the generator research, it gives us +50% production rate, +1 base slot on each template, and +unlock new options for research.
Presumably the effects of the source would have been the same, only limited to just our harrowmont factory instead of applying to every factory in the empire.
>>
>>37079073
I am really not sure.
>>
>>37079073
>Are we willing to make this a permanent position

It's been that way since we formalized our army way back then.

I've always viewed Lord General as Talons Darth Vader. The lord generals are the group that can be expected to lead entire battle fronts.

Which is why I basicly thought a more experienced Finn or Lynn or a normal human on the level of say Napoleon is about the only person who would work there.
>>
>>37079073
It is awarded per battlefront, so you cant really have a permanent position. Currently I dont believe any of our generals are up to the task (especially after the Farun disaster).

I was looking through gdoc when i noticed province notes.
Those are actually giving me some ideas for development.

First of all, when we do build irrigation, we should probably start with provinces that produce high demand goods like olives and coffee

I am also curious as to what lava vents can be used for. more harvesting volcanic rocks for rere minerals?

We could just do regular expansion of things like olives by just financing a large amount of planting, processing plants, etc.

And agri wizards are a sorta charity training done by mage towers. we could add an academy program for them as well. Increasing the agri wizard quantity. Or just finance more agri wizards?

I really would like it if we could colonize water (there are all those ocean hexes going to waste). Maybe magically engineer plants to increase yields? Or construct kelp farms to increase fish yields?

Here have some fluff for the new Vitrian Ranger Order.

Order of the Silver Gyrfalcon
Ranger Commandment: Sir Ezekiel Salazar

If the Golden Bears are the sword of Vitria and the Black Stone Knights the Shield, then the Silver Gryfalcons are the eyes and ears. Formed after the Farunese made a vain attempt to attack Vitiria by Ezekiel, a native Vitrian who served in the Order of the Silver Arrow prior. More adept at Ranging within urban environments and working in smaller tight knit teams they rely on more subtle enchantments and superior scouting and positioning to attack their prey. Relying on their knowledge of their city they usually outwit their enemies, luring them into traps of their own men or the greater defending army or taking them out piece by piece disappearing before they have a chance to retaliate.

In the field they serve as functional advance scouts; mapping cities, fortresses, castles more so then the land surrounding them. And couple well with heavily armed men, taking out the key units before they can disrupt their formations.
>>
>>37079142
If I remember right it's actually generals who are assigned to battle fronts then Lord generals over generals in general. At least last time I checked the old pastebin on this.

If it was per battlefront we would have assigned them already instead of working mostly on a general council.
>>
>>37079201
hehe, I was thinking the same thing. although a big part was him getting all those 20s.
We kinda need him for the daywalker programme though (also, why only daywalker? nightwalker are really effective too)
>>
>>37079201

I still say he would be a good fit for a new Knight Order, I mean the Vamps are going to need someone for leadership.
>>
>>37079201
He is technically our guard head unless that's changed recently. So he thinking on it probably isn't even in the military rankings at all.

He also will probably be used as a vampire knight commander once that gets done.
>>
>>37079325
>He is technically our guard head
do you mean bodyguard?
because our head guard is caitlynn.
>>
>>37079275
>daywalker programme though (also, why only daywalker? nightwalker are really effective too)

Nightwalkers don't really require much thought. You get turned you get a sizable strength boost and it's over.

The Daywalker program is more eugenics to try and build a daywalker clan of warriors that have a stable chance of creating something powerful each time.

Due to how the daywalkers work you could get a spellblade or you could get trash. The program is about maximizing the former more then the later.
>>
>>37079325
On the topic of bodyguards, I kinda want us to form some kind of unit with a bunch of elite no names to stick with us when we go into battle. Kind of like Alexander's companions.
>>
>>37079351
Yeah. Though Caitlyn is moving up in the world anon. She actually will probably be busy with her order so we should think about how to organize this at some point in the future.
>>
>>37079369
>Nightwalkers don't really require much thought. You get turned you get a sizable strength boost and it's over.
they still need combat training though. They might not grow much in terms of strength, but skill is important.
>>
>>37079403
so far she is taking her entire order with us into the field of battle
her order is the royal knights anyways, so, they go where talon go.
>>
>>37079388
Honestly I agree but I think the biggest problem here is just how efficient Talon alone is. In order to create an effective guard like that we would need like 3-6 Felixes or a couple of lowish tier hero units. Otherwise we run into the issue of when he fights something big and they get slaughtered.
>>
So, what's left on the agenda?
>>
>>37079388
>>37079459
I think really we should just surround talon with a core of hero units instead of regular bodyguards.
>>
>>37079424
That's honestly just basic training so there isn't much thought needed other then for their increased strength.

>>37079447
The order won't be with us all the time though. At some point her and Talon will be on different fronts so it would be nice to have a group he can just take with him all the time.
>>
>>37079476

I believe that's it for money and money related things.

Aspir might write some social stuff when/if he gets back assuming people are around.
>>
>>37079459
Well yes but, they're no names right? The idea is that they will probably and hopefully die in place of our retinue members and give us more room for mistakes. Highly lethal job, anyone who takes it and survives gets promoted or smth.
>>
>>37079508
>At some point her and Talon will be on different fronts so it would be nice to have a group he can just take with him all the time.

Again with this?
>>
>>37079497
I meant both the heroes and normal meatshields when army battle happens
>>
>>37079497
That's honestly my idea. The hard part is getting a bodyguard unit at that level.

Like maybe the best spellblade in the empire+ The top 2 knights created in 3 years of the program running and a 6 tail fox knight would be worth it.

Anything less is mostly just useful at beating down mooks.
>>
>>37079508
>That's honestly just basic training so there isn't much thought needed other then for their increased strength.
well, soldiers can get advanced training rather then just basic training. IIRC such things were discussed and aspir mentioned that its doable to do some training, but it has a cap on how far you can get from training alone.
military training is conscript < green < regular < veteran < elite
IIRC max with training is regular army units.

but that would be a program that is too large to fit into harrowmont and I wouldn't call it academy.

That being said, nightwalkers are rare enough that we could try to actually train them into something more. With personalized training and heavy investment, and careful screening of candidates we could potentially go further (basically, turn nightwalker swordmasters)
>>
>>37079567
Or a convenient speed bump
>>
>>37079567
Our aide could also count for this.
>>
>>37079508

Except Aspirational usually gives Talon someone to back him up. Take Shropham for example, he had the Griffon Knights, then the Black Stone Knights, then the HMK. The few times he was along it was with another Hero unit and the battles are to scale.

I think with the size of the army, amount of Hero units, and Elite groups now there really isn't a need.
>>
>>37079567
nah, that doesn't cut it either
i was thinking mal, taira, elemental sisters...
>>
>>37079538
It's pretty likely anon. Our hero units are starting to get official places and we can't place them all in one spot all the time. We already don't now given Talon was with Finn+Vad+Bael more then Lynn last battle.

>>37079557
Both is good yes. Fenix's guard strategy works for numbers while the elites work at clearing the room.
>>
>>37079613
Problem is: they're bodyguards, guard with the body if need be. I'm too attached to the lot of them to let them do that.
>>
>>37079654
>>37079611
Bottom line is, we need a force dedicated to sticking with us while not being needed elsewhere, NOT getting us emotionally attached to them, being good fighters for when facing against numbers and better speedbumps when something scary comes by.

It's not something that is completely needed but it's a good thing to have as an emperor as a matter of showing station as well as a matter of upper promotion and a matter of having meat shields in case shit gets crazy.

There is also assassins where armies don't work. We've already seen it's possible to infiltrate the place.

>>37079613
>mal, taira, elemental sisters..

Mal needs his research and is a mage.

Taira tends to just blow shit up everywhere to start with somewhere anyway though that would honestly be a good way to give her a position thinking on it since she doesn't have an official post.

Undine is pretty squishy and tends to work best with rituals and being in the back for when Talon almost dies.

Salamander tends to be elsewhere burning everything.

Gnome works great but she also tends to be our builder.

Slyph is a healer/support unit who works on the mass scale.

I'm not saying we have to do this now but as the empire gets older and older it might be a good idea to look into it.

Lets slow down a moment. Having a dedicated unit of no-name bodyguards doesn't mean the heroes aren't with us, it just means that we have a force of no-names sticking with us like glue as well.

And really, is it going to hurt that much to have a unit for such a purpose? Are a few skilled men diverted from the army to guard us THAT big of a deal? Its trivial, yes. It may or may not help us that much, yes. But atleast we look like a proper ruler with the fancy guards and more importantly, they're there just incase of that one derp moment.
>>
>>37080149
its better to have them than not
but they are no replacement for having actual named hero units with him.
and I wouldn't say its the highest priority.
>>
>>37079996
Well yeah. I"m not saying we just like leave them all behind anon. Just that we should have backups for when say Salamader needs to smoke that building out. Undine is healing. Gnome is building walls to block a foe away from us in.

That way we can just focus on what they need to and we have support just in case. I'm all for fighting besides Salamander and them normally. I'd just rather have another safety layer just in case we do find a situation where we can't rely on them due to circumstances. Which will happen given an arbitrary timeframe.

Hell that just happened last battle with the golem. If Merek wasn't around that thing would have came back. Imagine how useful say 2-3 High tier daywalkers would have been with Talon there.
>>
>>37080234
Though I've had this one idea for a while when we get closer to the foxes of trying to get a 6th tail that practiced group teleportation.

That way I don't keep feeling like Talon should be inserting a coin between Tairas breasts each time she teleports him somewhere and we can save her for the large scale ones.

That's a pretty long ways off but still could be useful later on. Especially if we pulled it off with a navy. Teleport say Salamader on the foes boat or Undine and watch what happens.

I don't think we will get this for a while though.

>Mal scene

You’d been seeing a lot more of Mal lately, which was a surprise as he was embarking upon a new research project. He’d talked your damn ear off about those bloody crystals when he’d finally worked out how to reproduce them. Instead of locking himself in his workshop to work on this generator idea of his you instead had found him moping about the keep. Or raiding your growing collection of brandy in your study.

“The hell are you doing here?” you ask your friend, glaring at him as he pours a tall glass from a crystal decanter.

“They don’t like to come in your study, even if they know I’m here,” he says, pouring a second glass.

Ah, Mal’s trouble with women. For a man who had bitterly complained about your involvement with so many women he certainly hadn’t appreciate two of them looking to share his bed. Then again, you had long gotten past the point of caring about those that complained about having to share. If they didn’t want to share, they could go elsewhere. God knows your bed was full enough as is, even if it did seem to be ever larger.

“Alright, I get that. Why are you raiding my brandy?” you ask, not letting up with the glare.

He gives you a sideways look as he slides the second glass across the table. The RSK ambassador had given you the table as a gift, the image of a griffin engraved in it and the intricate wooden griffins reared up as the table’s legs testament to its value. And sentimental value, too. You liked Norry. He was a good man who knew how to share a drink and a chat.

“You realise how much brandy you have Talon?” Mal says, leaning back into his chair. “As you don’t have an alcohol problem, I feel no guilt in drinking some of it.”

“There’s not that much,” you protest, eying the thirty or so bottles of brandy that had somehow amassed. At least, not much here. You had a bunch more in Vitria and your bedroom. It was probably a good thing you didn’t have an alcohol problem or you’d be dead.

You reach out to the glass, not sure if you should join Mal in drinking himself into a stupor. You…

Sipping at your drink you decide to keep it light, though you’re certainly not one to let Mal drink good brandy, let alone yours, and not have some yourself. You’d just keep yourself sober through liberal application of magic.

“Why wouldn’t Sylph and Neir come talk to you in here? They hound you night and day otherwise, to hear you bitch about it,” you say, not bothering to be gentle. Mal was a big boy. A big boy who had continuously annoyed to crap out of you over your own womanising. Fair’s fair.

“Because it’s your study. The only people who wander in here without are the people who don’t give a damn what you think or who are too stupid to realise what the place is,” Mal says, halfway through a glass of straight brandy. You were going to pour the glasses from now on.

“It’s my study. I come in here to chat with people. It’s not like it’s something special,” you say, finding the idea of you having some sacred room exceedingly odd. “Plus, isn’t kind of sad to be hiding behind me, or even my figure, over some women?”

“I literally just said I don’t care what you think, so having a crack at me over being a coward isn’t going to work,” he replies as he points at the coffee table. “This table alone is probably worth as much as most merchant’s belongings. The damn thing is enchanted to be difficult to break on top of the craftsmanship. You’ve got a huge collection of brandy, plus a half dozen crystal decanters, and some extremely plush chairs. The door’s practically blast-proof and the room is covered in wards and heavily reinforced by Gnome, Taira and myself. Sendings can’t even get in or out. It’s a very expensive room and most people find it intimidating.”

“But not you, clearly. Why don’t you just sit down and talk to the two of them at once?” you ask, trying to ignore the annoying feeling from most of your retinue finding your study intimidating.

“I tried that. Sylph misread the situation and assumed that the way to break the ice would be to have a threesome,” he says dryly, finishing off his drink.

“An elegant solution.”

“Neir practically shrieked the walls down while Sylph thought she was being unreasonable and I’ve been trying to get the two of them to talk to each other since,” he says, shrugging.

You snatch the decanter away from him as you finish your glass, pouring two much smaller glasses. He gives you a scowl which you return with a level look. If he wants to drink himself into a stupor he can do it on somebody else’s stash of liquor. His own, for one. You hadn’t missed the wine he’d been cellaring – or at least, Corrfax hadn’t and had then told you. His eyes were your eyes, after all.

“I can see the great pains you are going to by hiding away in my study where you admit they won’t come talk to you at all,” you retort. “Or were you hoping something else magical would happen?”

Mal rolls his eyes, leaving the obvious unsaid. You weren’t so thick as to miss the reason Mal was telling you about the intimidating effect of the study. It’s not like it was the first you’d heard of it, though Gnome told it differently. This was a room of authority, not homeliness. People didn’t like to step in here if it wasn’t over business because it reminded them of what you were, not who you were. You doubted Mal was hiding away here if he didn’t want to use that.

OK let me get this straight.
Sylph is after Mals dick, Neir doesnt want to let it happen.
They're [mal and neir] married.
Mal wanted Sylph as a familiar through PoP.

Did Mal consult Neir about this?
Did he realize sylph might want his dick, permanently?

Because if the fucker didn't think this through and just went "oh yeah, I want another elemental" then its his fault and he should eat the humble pie.

Does syplh mind Neir? I think not.
From what I gather Neir is the problem, but it seems she's the problem because Mal didn't tell her anything beforehand so now she's extra mad.
This needs to be remedied.
They actually need to sit down and talk like normal people. And a normal pure elemental. Fuck.
>>

Rationalising it as showing his women what he’s really like, you decide to drop the pretences and just enjoy a drink and a chat.

“You really think you can do this? Both of them?” you ask your friend, pouring two noticeably taller glasses.

“Given that you wake in your bed with two women every morning, sometimes different ones than those you went to bed with the previous night, yeah I do,” he says. “I’d prefer it to be three but the other one on that list is taken.”

“I’ll be honest, I assumed for a while you were already bedding Sala. I’m surprised you’re not.”

“She’s as flirtatious as she is insincere. She’s incredibly loyal and seems to find the idea of having two masters fascinating, though I wonder whether she views me or you as her true master.”

“You, no doubt. She wanders around with you and preens. I’m just there for fun.”

“She certainly has a lot of it.”

“It goes both ways.”

The decanter is almost empty now so you rise to collect another bottle, keeping your movement smooth through great experience. You really hope that Sylph and Neir don’t walk in now. Slipping back into your chair with a local bottle of brandy, you exchange it for the glass filled with the last of the Ahmnian drop that Mal had first grabbed.

“So, you’re okay if Neir doesn’t handle a lot of her spy work, right?” Mal asks you suddenly, eying you closely. You wonder if he’s as drunk as he looks – then again, you wonder if he’d bother asking you this if he weren’t.

“I dealt with Nate being out of action. I have Karise, too.”

“They kept their operations separate for a reason. I’m not sure that would be wise,” Mal warns, waving his hand in front of his face in an off gesture.

“That whole thing about suspecting everybody else? I’ll lean on Karise if it’ll keep Neir out of work for the next six months.”

“Wait, you know?” comes a rather loud and feminine voice from the doorway.

“Hey, hey,” Mal says, scowling at the ajar door.

Neir putters in, looking embarrassed. An imperious looking Sylph follows, though she shies a little from your gaze. You find that odd given she’s mostly been uncaring about you previously.

The drinks seem to multiply, though that’s probably just the glasses. There was always enough brandy to go around. You congratulate Mal before keeping the light topics on. If they can all get along then things will work out. It would be better for all three of them if they did get along. You keep the drinks away from Neir for obvious reasons, instead making use of the non-alcoholic beverages you stash away. Correction, the non-alcoholic beverages that aren’t for consumption by the furry little monsters that you found dumped in your lap more and more often.

Sylph’s still wary of talking with you so you force a conversation on her while Neir is teasing Mal over mistiming his contraception beverages while in Shropham.

“You look a little put out. You are welcome in here, despite what Mal might say,” you tell the wind elemental, one hand holding your brandy snifter and the other outstretched over the back of your chair.

“Maloric mostly says that anybody can wander in here whenever they like, so that’s not the case,” she says, speaking haltingly with a frown even as she sips at her brandy and gives you a lidded look. “It’s just that this isn’t the room I would expect this sort of thing to take place in. My sisters were quite adamant that this isn’t a room you want to be in with you unless you were talking work.”

You tried not to smile at the fact this room had become the ‘scolding room’ to the other elementals. “That’s probably because there’s a strict rule about wearing clothing in this room.”

“Yes, I can see that having an impact on them,” Sylph says, smiling for the first time since entering. She eyes her master as he flirts with Neir. “Are you sure you won’t waive it?”

“Mal’s room is close enough,” you say flatly and she pouts at you. “If I waive it for you, next thing I know Sala will be crawling all over me, then everybody else.”

Sylph pours herself another glass as she gives you a wicked smile. “Everybody else? Well, I’m curious after my sisters’ comments… I am only joking. Still, it is interesting to see you like this. You’re much softer than I expected when I first saw you, though I know from what I hear and see that it’s an intentional softness.”

You shrug, not keen on a deep introspective talk. Instead you smother it with a jibe at Mal and some more drinks. At some point you decide to slink away, giving Neir a look and a squeeze of her shoulder. She squeezes your hand in return and gives you a smile and you take that as a sign that you’re not needed here. You wonder how much of the problem here was Mal learning about her being pregnant – the stupid idiot clearly hadn’t realised. You don’t make it very far before bumping into…

“It’s not often that I see you amble out of your study,” Tsucchi says, her voice wafting into the hallway from her room.

“I don’t amble, I stride with slightly less dexterity,” you say, ambling into Tsucchi’s room.

The fox gives you a look, clearly dressed for bed. You’d ask why her door was open but you suspect it was just laziness on her part. It would hardly be the first time she’d not bothered to close it before falling asleep. It was rather easy to keep count, as one of your patrolling knights would typically plant themselves outside her door to keep watch. They should probably just close the door but they had a strange policy about never crossing the thresholds of rooms.

“Yes, I can see your confidence. Or hear it, really. How much have you had to drink?” she asks, her tails shuffling about behind her as she plays with the book in front of her.

“A bottle of brandy, give or take.”

“Are you sure you’ll even make it back to your room? Let alone be able to perform?”

“Who’s in there?”

“Taira is playing about with Sala, I believe. They were giggling about it in the hot spring earlier.”

Yeah, you weren’t going back to your room in this state. You’d just crash in one of the spare rooms. Taira and Sala would eat you alive like this.

“Sit down before you fall over and hurt yourself. I don’t want them crawling all over you in my room once they find out where they are,” she says, waving towards her bed.

You continue standing in the doorway, unsure if you should accept the invitiation. “They knew where I was.”

“The two of them avoid your study like the plague. I wouldn’t be surprised if they actively attempted to ward themselves against evil spirits every time they passed,” she says, giving you an annoyed look. “Now come in and sit down.”

>4. MAGIC CHECK

You walk up to ‘Tsucchi’, if that truly is her real name, with all the seriousness you can muster. Concentrating heavily, you focus your will and perception purely on her. You were fooled once, never again. It takes some time but your magical and physical senses are quite certain she’s the real deal, or at least possessing no magic beyond the intrinsic magic that foxes have in them. Which is a lot for Tsucchi, hence the amount of time you had to spend stroking her tails to confirm it really was her.

As you return to normal, convinced that the Tsucchi before you is the real thing, you note the way she’s staring at you, red as a cherry, with her ears flat against her head and her tails hugging her body closely. Perhaps all the stroking was too much? Or maybe it was the playing with her ears? Or maybe the confirmation that there was no magic within her body? You didn’t touch anything inappropriate, though you did have to confirm that any illusion was accurate around her chest. It was always larger than it appeared under clothing.

You have a feeling you should do something now. Something to prevent her from boiling over.

You decide that there’s no time like the present to just sit down and be obedient. It was against your better nature but your time with Taira had allowed you to learn that there were plenty of times to just let the woman take control. Not that Tsucchi seemed in control.

Her eyes followed you as you sat on the bed, her ears and tails rising as you did so. She seemed to open and close her mouth a few times like a fish, clearly shocked by something beyond your understanding. Her eyes searched yours, looking for something. Aside from shifting in her chair slightly, her sheer nightgown following her movements closely, she did little physically. Eventually, her tails and body language settled. Then she started glaring.

“What were you doing, Talon?” she asks, her voice low and rather menacing.

Between the alcohol and what she was wearing, her voice didn’t sound that menacing to your ears, however. “I had to confirm you were really Tsucchi. You didn’t seem to be acting like yourself.”

“In what way?”

“Inviting me in.”

“You reduced me to a puddle in this room once before. What are you even talking about?”

“I just had to be certain,” you protest.

“That was it? All of that, the stroking of my tails and my ears, the… stroking… in general. It was all just to check that I was really myself?” she asks you, her voice rather flat. Even in your current state you could sense danger.

That's good drunk logic, but the statement is far too lucid. We need to get distracted my something half way through it. Now we just have to convince her we want to marry her personally over every other woman we're seeing and that's why we can't have any real fun with her and that it's not just because we don't want to deal with Ren blowing a fuse.

>4. With 2

You shrug, looking a little bashful as you play with her sheets. “I like stroking.”

There’s a pause. Then, “I would have thought you have enough women around you not to have to do that yourself. You’ve got two in your bedroom right now.”

You give her a flat look, noticing that the silver-tailed fox has gotten her confidence back, though her face remains flushed. Her tails are shuffling around her once again as she smirks at you.

“I may be a bit drunk but I’m certain that’s not what I meant, though I must admit that sort of remark makes it clear you’re really Tsucchi,” you say.

“And my breasts didn’t?”

“I’m sorry, Tsucchi, but I must admit something to you. You have very nice tails. They overshadow every other part of you.”

“They are bigger than me, so I can understand the overshadowing. I imagine that’s why Taira never shuts up about it – her tails compose most of her body’s volume so you msut spend most of your time with her just touching her tails out of principle.”

“What sort of principle would that be?”

“Equality. You take a strong stance on that in regards to all races being welcome, it makes sense you’d extend it into the bedroom. Make sure that every part of your… partners,” Tsucchi hesitates, blushing at an odd moment in her teasing, “receives equal attention.”

“It’s more equality of opportunity and fluffy tails tend to over represent themselves in the department of being stroked lovingly.”

Tsucchi flares up again, giving you a glare. “If I ask you to stroke my tails, what will you do?”

“Stroke them.”

“Why did I even ask?” Tsucchi mutters under her breath.

The fox suddenly shifts from her chair to the bed, reminding you of a night long ago when you first stroked her tails. You rendered her practically insensate from the stroking then. It would be poor form to fail to do so again.

Almost an hour later, Tsucchi fast asleep in her bed, you slip out of the room. You’re rather certain that you don’t want to sleep in her bed. Not with Taira likely to go hunting – she’d tell Ren and then all hell would break loose. Instead you decide that the hot springs will make a nice stop while you consider where to crash. Down there you encounter…

As I appear to be getting steadily drunker I'll do the Vad scene in the hot spring and an Aladria scene afterwards outside of it. Mostly because I suspect Aladria is better when making sexual entendres when she's not in a sexual situation.

And being steadily drunker is applicable because it means I'm still running. I'm about to ring in the New Year drinking a glass of wine and still seem to be going strong.

Happy New Year from Australia, folks.

>2. Followed by 3 later

The hot spring is usually quiet at this time of night, only occasionally interrupted by the subtle sounds of Undine or another one of the girls relaxing in here by themselves. The constant splashing, accompanied by familiar griping, makes it clear this is an atypical situation. As you wander up to the pool the mist becomes clearer and you make out Vad leaning against one end of the hot spring while something splashes wildly in the water in front of him.

“Oh it’s you, Talon. Just great. Now she’s never going to get to sleep,” Vad says rather loudly as you slip into the hot spring.

You don’t know if she saw you or simply reacted to your name but the kit in front of Vad starts paddling madly. You watch as Sai slowly makes her way towards you through the water, water splashing about wildly as she madly tries to get close to you. The foxes may have mastered writing already but swimming was not a great talent of theirs. Vad had joked that it was a good sign, as foxes with lots of tails tends to have lots of problems with water as their tails soaked through. The sounds and sights of the wild splashing have you mesmerised, the heat of the water making you feel like you’re melting. The alcohol is nowhere near out of your system.

“What are you even doing down here at this time?” Vad asks, snapping you out of your stupor as he lifts Sai up in his arms. The kit had been repeatedly bumping into your chest, her splashing about making it hard for her to stay close enough for her liking.

“Taira and Sala are in my room.”

“That sounds like a great reason to be there, not here.”

“I’ve consumed at least a bottle of brandy.”

“Concerned about it drooping? I understand that. It took Taira a month to shut up about it when it happened to me.”

“No. Concerned about not using my magic properly and dying of overexertion.”

“That sounds like the best way to go out.”

You sigh, Vad smirking as he redirects his daughter towards the open water of the hot spring. Having had enough of bumping into you, Sai begins splashing about wildly with reckless abandon. You felt sorry for Vad – of the three, Said was the most hyperactive. The only way you ever coped with her was by cuddling her any time you needed to do anything important. Doing so had worked out well when meeting Norry – somehow the foxes had reminded him of his grandchildren and put your relationship off to a great start.

On a separate note, just want to say as far as the thread participation thing mentioned at the start of the thread I haven't participated in one of these for a while. To much micromanagement and too many moving parts for my taste. Maybe some others dropped off for that reason too. It's still a very well run quest, just not normally my speed is all.

I considered trying to make a simple 4X game with Rance-like combat and a complicated management system but decided it was way too much time and effort given I'm running the quest and working full-time. Plus, my programming experience is mostly in the logical side not the graphical side, so it would have been a ton of effort to learn and I have no artistic skill.

I do try to minimise the micromanagement, outside the numbers threads, but fair enough. Most quests don't have any real management at all.

“You know, I still don’t understand why you and Ren have so such a rift between the two of you. He only slept with your sister,” you say, leaning into the hot spring, the sound of Sai splashing about mellowing you out quite a bit. Curious how the incessant noise of children could so easily fade into the background.

“She’d literally only gotten her fourth tail when he bedded her. That’s way too young,” Vad says, his voice bitter.

Sai spins about at her father’s voice, pausing a bit in her splashing as she tries to float and watch him. Then she starts to sink and resume splashing about madly.

“Sarnn got engaged at a similar age,” you point out.

“Sarnn got cultivated into that, from what I hear. The first silver tail in the clan in a long time, he got a lot of attention he shouldn’t have at that age,” Vad says, not looking at you. “I find it amusing that he wound up choosing Karise, who didn’t do any of that out of respect, simply because of that sexualisation.”

“What?”

“He chose her because she’s tall, attractive and has huge tits. Plus, she no doubt flirted back pretty heavily when he flirted with her. It’s what caught me in her web,” he says, speaking lightly of Karise. “He still shouldn’t have been in that situation. I don’t know why Noah slept with Ren, but I didn’t like it. Still don’t like it. The fact he kicked me out over it is proof that I was right to be suspicious.”

Ah, so Vad really was unaware of why Ren had to remove him as his bodyguard. You weren’t sure whether explaining the reality was appropriate right now or whether you should try to do it with Ren present. Then again, maybe Vad deserves a chance to confront the truth.

Ah, I see what you mean here. I tend to gloss over that sort of thing as micromanagement (at least when I handle it better than the dwarves recently) because I try to handle it in a more narrative fashion than I do in this sort of thread or some other quests do. I can definitely understand not appreciating it but it's difficult running an emperor quest without any high-level emperoring.

>>37083410
I think this is a bigger issue. THe quest is something of a kitchen-sink, both setting-wise and content-wise. I have pretty broad tastes and my mood varies a lot between threads, so it works for me but not necessarily for many players.

>4. Tell him to ask Noah.

“Maybe you should talk to Noah about this Vad. To be honest, I don’t think the situation is as clear-cut as you make it out to be,” you say, trying not to openly tell Vad he’s both wrong about Ren sleeping with Noah, which might have been voluntary, and about why he got removed as bodyguard. “Tsucchi might also be worth talking to. She’s friendly and cares about you and her brother.”

“Tsucchi is… complicated. You seem to have built a real rapport with her but I’ve never gotten beneath her exterior. And Noah will just defend Ren, has just defended Ren. I know it looks reasonable from the outside – you’re probably comparing it to Mal with Neir, ten years his younger, or yourself with Sarah. That’s wrong,” Vad says, finally looking at you, albeit reluctantly and with a downward gaze. Sai’s splashing seems distant even though she’s literally in front of you. “I’ve compared you to Ren and Taira before but it’s not true. Taira’s just promiscuous but you seem to build a real rapport with the women you’re with. They’re not just there for the sex. With Ren, it’s about his frustrations – I won’t blame him or say much, but from what he and Taira have told me, he never had the greatest upbringing. I don’t trust him not to extend that to Noah, as just another member of his harem.”

Ah, you’d heard about Ren’s problems indirectly from Tsucchi. Egotistical but burdened from a young age, it was clear that Ren’s warped personality was the fault of how he was raised. Tsucchi’s was as well, though you get the feeling she’s reacted differently since. You wondered if Vad’s words of bitterness over Sarnn’s treatment were from his knowledge of Ren’s past.

Still, you feel the need to repeat yourself. “Talk with them again, Vad. And listen. I have my own problems with Ren but it’s clear to me he was a good friend of yours. You shouldn’t burn a friendship so easily.”

“What would you do if Mal slept with one of the girls close to you? Undine or Gnome?” Vad suddenly asks.

>4. I'd probably react badly initially, but ultimately I'd talk it out with them. People sometimes do impulsive things that don't have any real meaning but get blown out of proportion, but assuming it wasn't something like that or a misunderstanding on my part I think at the end of the day the most important thing would be that everyone was able to be honest with each other and be in the relationships they found most gratifying. I wouldn't want Undine or Gnome to be with me just because they were afraid of how I'd react if they were with someone else. Of course, I'd rather everything be out in the open if something like what your suggesting ever happened rather than things happening behind my back and creating distrust and anger when it came to light."

"That said, it wouldn't be easy. Still, it'd be worth it to salvage my friendship with Mal, or you for that matter, if anything of that magnitude ever happened. Then again, I'm still fairly drunk, maybe forgiveness or at least understanding wouldn't be so easy sober."

“I’d talk to him. I wouldn’t be happy about it but I’d talk to him and try to understand why,” you answer, taking the sudden question more seriously than it would normally deserve. “I’ve known Mal too long to just throw him aside over an indiscretion. He deserves this much at least.”

“Then what? After talking, then what?” Vad asks bitterly, clearly reliving his memories.

“Then, unless he had no real reason, I’d forgive him. If he did it again I might not. It would depend on the reason but he’s Mal. He’s my friend and I can’t imagine him betraying me quite like that,” you say, slipping a bit as your drunken state oozes through.

It’s difficult to do this sort of conversation while drunk, even with your experience and focus, and especially so in regards to such a topic. It was difficult to picture Mal ever truly betraying you like that. You could imagine a tryst. Hell, you could imagine Caitlyn throwing herself upon him, her father-like feelings giving way to something else, and him giving in. But you couldn’t picture him not being regretful and understanding of your anger, of being methodical in his answers and self-deprecating in his regret. To not forgive your friend in such a situation would be to betray yourself.

Vadoric falls silent after this, sinking into the water and staring into space.

“I’ll take Sai up to Nate if you’d like. I think you need some time to yourself,” you say.

Gathering up and drying the kit is far more effort than you expected. She seems to treat the drying as a form of play. Luckily she’s actually tiring herself out, the effort from so much swimming draining her excess of energy. By the time you get up to Nate and Vad’s bedroom, where their nursery is, she’s almost asleep in your arms. Nate’s reading a book in bed using a small conjured light while Sai’s brothers sleep in their cot. She looks up as you step in.

“You know, the whole point of Vad taking care of Sai was so that you could sleep,” you say as you slip Sai into the cot, the kit kicking a few times before slipping back into her rest.

“They’re usually rather well behaved of a night. I’ve gotten a little too used to sleeping next to him as a result,” she says, shrugging with a small smile. “I’m actually a little worried about how well I’ll sleep back on the battlefield.”

You push down your instinctive feelings about Nate going back into the battlefield. Vad was already fighting out there, so there was no reason for Nate to be restrained from doing as she chose once the kits were running about in their humanoid forms.

“Where is Vad? No offense, but it’s unusual for the Imperator himself to be tucking Sai in of a night,” Nate says, smiling cutely.

“Thinknig about whether he can salvage an old friendship with a bit more thought and effort,” you say.

Nate nods slowly and you don’t know if she understood the specifics but it was clear she knew it was a serious matter. You bid her and the kits goodnight and wander about. It took taking a crash into the stonework to remind yourself of the fact you were still rather drunk, your focus wandering and preventing yourself from keeping your body upright.

“You look terrible. You really should come up with some way to chase girls out of your bedroom when unwanted. Or at least put a bed in your study,” Aladria says, watching you from one of the nearby kitchenettes.

“If I put a bed there they’d assume it was for sex,” you grind out, pulling yourself together.

“You can hardly blame them. I’ve scarcely seen you use one for anything else,” she says, grinning. “So, what has you running scared tonight?”

“Death by overexertion. Fear of fluffy tail retribution. A bit of everything has me on the run, really,” you say glibly, slipping into the kitchenette where your familiar is preparing a… tomato and cheese sandwich.

“Really? No meat?” you ask.

“I try to restrict my intake of living beings,” Aladria says, slicing her sandwich into two. “And while I can picture your first fear – many of your consorts are older than I am, with similarly terrifying constitutions – the second escapes me. Your obsession with the tails of the mystic foxes, and theirs with you stroking them, makes me wonder if you’re some sort of prophet, destined to lead them to a promised land where their tails are never not stroked.”

“By me,” you mutter. “I stroked some tails a little too vigorously. I worry that their owner might come after me.”

“To bed you, maybe. Judging by every fox I’ve seen, none of them are so unattractive to scare you away,” Aladria says.

“You know, why are you so overly sexual about everything?” you ask, unable to contain your curiosity.

“Because it unnerves people. It also makes them act foolishly. Too many men, my sire included, are drawn astray by precocious young-looking girls,” she says, shrugging. “You don’t share the same look, probably because you’re an equal opportunity predator, but it still annoys you at least.”

This is actually kind of funny because I just a while back had to toss a few people out of my room due to this.

“What would you say if it endeared me instead?” you ask, voice light as you lean against the counter.

“Absolutely disgusting,” Aladria says without even hesitating or looking at you. “Now, what were you going to say again?”

“You’re more cute and attractive than annoying, particularly with your wit and sexual comments,” you say, being more expansive. “I wouldn’t mind if you were more open with me, getting over your discomfort.

“Ah, so you’re less an equal opportunity predator as a monster that preys on the strong and confident. You lure them in with freedom and friendliness, implementing no means of control despite their power, then crushing them utterly with your great, mighty oak.”

“That wasn’t exactly subtle.”

“You have a harem that could probably merge and form some sort of super being, comparable to the nonsensical characters from the stories about destroying all the shadowbeasts, marrying an archangel and becoming a new god of the world. I don’t feel the need to be subtle about your conquests,” Aladria says, then finally bites into her sandwich.

“What sort of things do you read?” you ask her.

“Your journals for one. You have an interesting perspective on military history. You should talk to that Aefir you want to bed about her race’s ancient history. I suspect she’ll like the ego boost..

“Uh huh,” you say, not bothering to question her. You have an annoying feeling that the vampire got a little too much out of your thoughts during the days she could read your surface thoughts. “Again, I hope to make you a little more comfortable so you don’t feel the need to do that.”

“I’ll be comfortable when I can say these things and be comfortable with you,” she says, giving you a wicked grin.

“That sounded circular.”

“You’re not being imaginative enough,” she says, giggling a bit before slipping outside.

Right, you’re not sure you understood that. Strange girl, though you suspect she’s intentionally being obtuse. She’s been quick to sound out your personality but never makes her own thoughts obvious. It makes her hard to trust even as she tries rather hard to be openly loyal.

You stumble to a nearby room, which you know to be empty. You know it reasonably well and don’t bother turning on the lights, instead just slumping down on the bed. In your heart you know you’ll regret this. Waking up in the morning with Kyria cuddled up to you only cements this. At least you know you were probably too drunk to have done anything, despite her eagerness. ‘Puppy’ indeed.

>That’s the thread

I enjoyed this slice-of-life part and I hope you guys did, too. The extra bits you guys added (stuff like the ‘magic check’ on tsucchi, the Vad scene idea and the Noah chat recc) really made this great.

Next thread is at 5pm EST on the 2nd Jan. I’ll do Q&A in the morning if the thread is alive. I might also do more social stuff if I’m really up for it (with a new thread if necessary), but don’t hold out hope for that.

Did she just call Talon a Mary Sue?

Congratulations Aspir, I worked a 12 hour shift and you somehow managed to start the thread before I left for work and continued running well after I got home.
Somebody should probably be paying you to do this.

She was basically claiming that Talon's following really comes from his talents in bed.

>>37084372
I'm on paid leave so that kind of counts? I also did take a few hours break so it's not like I was running the whole time.

>>37084389
I think I've had enough to get some sleep, particularly as I slept terribly last night.

Aspirational, you are the best QM ever, you know that, right? I enjoyed this thread greatly, much more than the numbers part, evne if I missed a good portion of it due to the need for sleep.

>>37084347
Oh man. Talon just can't catch a break haha.

Thanks for the run Aspie, was a fun thread been a while since we had this kinda light hearted fun.

On a 1-10 scale. How annoyed would Ren get if he knew everything Talon has done so far?
>>
Good thread(s) tonight.

Numbers went really well, nice and smooth. Good to know we have some direction finally.

And the social scenes were a lot of fun. They got a lot more personal then I was expecting, which is a nice change of pace.

How well could a human transmuter teach a dragon their magic? Supposedly the Aefir managed to teach humans, so I was wondering if we could improve our dragons in a similar fashion. (That is, give them a transmutation teacher of another race to show them the ropes b/c finding a dragon is stupidly difficult.)

>>37084414
>Need for sleep.

I'm actually laughing here because I basically took a nap during the 2-3 hour long timeframe he went off then woke up right after Mal's scene.
>>
>>37084445
I think the helldragon should know how it works. The issue there is getting her to show off much. That is if they use the same magic type now.
>>
>>37084347
Is there any chance in hell you could get Gnome to give Talon some in thread advice for dealing with the dwarves (how negotiations work and how much face he lost by simply accepting their terms) and Ren or any of the Fox Leaders can explain now a multinational corporation like the EWTC actually functions and how to handle strong-arm tactics? Oh, and since the plan to destroy the farming co-op can be used against us how about we just convert them into a full fledged agricultural corporation and slowly try to build them up as our home grown counter to EWTC?

I suppose I'm asking that if we're going to spend more time governing that we spend more time doing the prep work to govern well.

>Kirito

Considering it isn't a MMO wouldn't he get murdered by the first guy swinging a sword around?
>>
>>37084406
Have we found an excuse to hold regular meetings with Sylvian yet? Can we run joint training operations with her forces to build trust and increase familiarity between our commanders and forces? Have we briefed Alyce on our assessment of Irlin and if so what was her reaction to our advocating Sylvian as being the lesser of two evils?
>>
>>37084424
>On a 1-10 scale. How annoyed would Ren get if he knew everything Talon has done so far?
This is hard to answer without huge spoilers. Basically, Ren is similar to Talon in many ways but with some very severe personality faults. He might not be annoyed at all.

>>37084445
The Aefir didn't so much teach as experiment and cultivate. Being long-lived, this worked out well for them. The problem you'd have in getting other races to teach dragons is that you're basically limited to Merce as the only viable teacher that isn't a dragon.

>>37084520
>Have we briefed Alyce on our assessment of Irlin and if so what was her reaction to our advocating Sylvian as being the lesser of two evils?
Alyce probably isn't won over regarding Sylvian (though Merce is pushing her a bit) but is looking forward to you fighting the Guard.

>advice for dealing with the dwarves (how negotiations work and how much face he lost by simply accepting their terms)
Dwarves are forthright. They offer fair terms and retaliate heavily in negotiations when they feel they're being spurned. They'll actively avoid being cheated but also dislike cheating others. Exceptions to this are the 'corruptions' mentioned in the lore doco.

>multinational corporation like the EWTC actually functions and how to handle strong-arm tactics
Gettin Ren's advice could be a scene.

From existing owners, but there's no central exchange or anything. There's also no public list. It's likely that many managers like Legate also own substantial shares in the company.

>Ren is similar to Talon in many ways but with some very severe personality faults.

Given how paranoid he seems to be sometimes along with other traits mentioned so far. I honestly get the feeling a lot of his faults is mostly something adaptive. Though given how he acts so far I really have no idea how him and Tssuchi get along. He seems to respect her and Tairas opinions a lot. But one of the first things he said kind of felt like a half insult to her during the Talks.

It honestly feels to me that while Tssuchi adapted via becoming a social chameleon and learning to read people very well. Ren adapted via forcefulness and shrewdness add in being one of the strongest foxes alive and I can start to get a picture of what issues he could start getting.

Kind of sad I was too late to recommend saying pic related.
