/tg/ - Traditional Games

>Current Population: 1330(1200 Gorgon) (2 City, 24 villages, 4 islands, 33 heroes)
>Culture and Art: Your people wear fine woven clothing dyed in vivid black and red mineral dyes, leather shoes, and various ivory, horn, and shell jewelry. They worship a pantheon of Celestial bodies with a casual respect towards elemental spirits and saints. Two Holidays are observed: The Spirit Festival and the Suns giving. Soccer has become a popular past time.
>The People: Your people organize themselves into large open families with communities formally lead by a Magocracy council of Cyclops Sages and a few Gorgons. Gorgons exist as a visible Minority group that are occasionally bred/lived with. Trade skills are committed to and goods and services are purchased with Ivory Rings. Ethnicity wise your people come in a variety of light to dark tanned freckled skin tones with their white hair braided or kept short and messy. Your People speak and write Island "True" Cyclopean and a bit of Gorgon.
>Technology: Your people use a variety of Iron tools; Clay, Glass, and Iron products are all produced. Homes possess stone foundations (Stone working and Masonry being quite adapt), wooden or bamboo frames, and dried woven grass walling and roofs. Communal education and Bamboo scrolls are widespread as is your people knowledge of Math, Astronomy, and rudimentary natural sciences. Herbal remedies are relied upon for medicine.
>Magic: (121 "Sages".) Elemental Magical practices are quite widespread as is the use of Megalithic structures and Iron/Gold as mediums for magics. Divine and Arcane Magics remain rudimentary.
>Food: Adequate. Your people practice AgroForestry with large Orchards that contain Plantains, Mangoes, Herbs, Spices, Breadfruit, Cashews, and Sweet potatoes. Aquaculture is also used to raise stocked freshwater fish, but fishing remains a more practical source of seafood. Livestock include: Elephants, Triceratops, Chickens, and Banana Rats. Dried goods kept in communal Granaries.

Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/36879562/

Last thread we managed to survive an encounter with the Zizz and among many other more cultural and magical advances we have also come into direct contact with Gorgon Civilization. Gorgon Civilization as it turns out is a den of debauchery, suffering, filled squalid and suffering masses. In an attempt to spread our superior culture over them we enlisted the use of three missionary groups.

These Groups were successful in obtaining a steady and reliable flow of Gorgon Immigrants made up of: Single Mothers with Children, Lower class citizens (Hunters, Rat catchers, Fishermen, Gong Farmers, unskilled laborers/unemployed craftswomen), and Exiled Gorgons (Shamed priestesses, prostitutes, and political enemies.)

>+NEW ECOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS
>The Cosmic Snake shrine: Old Snake
The Cosmic Snake shrine carved into the once ancient Fungal tree has been overtaken by the new growth: The old tree has rotted away and in it place an equally unimaginable massive fruiting tree has grown over it. The Tree is so massive it provides a partially shaded canopy for other smaller trees and vegetation to grow under it.

>Jungle -/+ Hotter
The Fungal Forest once completely blocked sunlight from entering the canopy beneath it: create a cool, humid, environment that was ideal for fungal growth. Your NEW GROWTH however provides partial shade- which allows sunlight and deters fungal growth. Large Terrestrial Dinosaurs such as Long-necked and Triceratops find it uncomfortably hot and are moving further inland.

>New Animals: Peccary, Raptor, (Moon)Bear.
These new ecological conditions have provided a more suitable habitat for animals previously quite uncommon: Abundant edible fruits have provided numerous feeding opportunities to Peccaries and Bears and the increased temperatures and swelling peccary populations have also benefited the Raptor population.

Alright guys go ahead: Roll for 2 Actions(d20) and 1 Idea(d100)

>Rolling against espionage however: Cyclopes Roll: 67, Gorgon Roll 76, Elf roll 13
>Elf needed at least a 35. Gorgon wins. +Gorgon elven resentment -Cyclops communal culture

Your Group of "Missionaries" have been currently staying at the Temple where they had originally displayed their magical prowess. There, they have been wined, dined, and slept with at the behest of the Elven representative who seems extremely interested in documenting the seemingly little-known Cyclopean Magics.... the Gorgons have taken this as an opportunity to play their hand.

The Head priestess has had a complete heel turn and although she has completely lost faith towards her society; she has become overwhelmed by the Cyclops humility, simplicity, and casual displays of raw power-She sees this as an opportunity to undermine Elven civilization. She and a handful of the other Gorgon priestesses (The ones whom did not faint) begin feeding, drinking, and slowly sexing all of the Magical and Arcane Secrets out of your Emissaries.

>Explore the Coral Reefs
>Action roll 20/20
>Complete Success

Meanwhile on the Islands: the rumors of Coral Reefs have started to become a little "over-played" and exaggerated- claims of treasure, adventure, beautiful water spirits, etc.. This has caused -as you can imagine- many more Cyclopes swimming or boating out to the Reefs to investigate them. A lot of people just either end up giving up and idly "grazing" on the kelp forests, collecting shellfish, or knocking off pieces of coral to make into jewelry.

This changes a few weeks in. A being has been spotted.
Humanoid in shape, as tall upright as a Gorgon, webbed feet and hands, with a blue/green'ish hued perfectly smooth skinned muscular body complimented by a pair of prominent, large, nipple-less "Breasts".Their head is peculiar though: their ears are visibly elongated and drawn out into small muscular flippers and their head is crowned with boneless psuedo-fins that eventually get smaller as they feed into the back of their head where a LARGE dolphin-like tail extends from.

The strange new being is observed very briefly swimming from one hollowed out Coral mass to another while slowly filling a braided "bad" of kelp with various items, tools, bones, and trinkets.
As soon as it is spotted it's breasts visibly "deflate" and it quickly swims away into the deep ocean with it's scavanged goods.

>Study Geometry
>Roll 87/100
>Success +/-Racial Bonus, +Masonry

Math has always been something that has come naturally, but at the same time has always had a few stipulations here and there. The Cyclopean eye cannot perceive "depth" very well- you have excellent vision but.. you have obvious problems knowing how far something actually is. Most Cyclops for instance can see the mainland from the shores of a few close islands, but to gauge it's distance is next to impossible. This has changed though.

It wasn't ironically enough the Sages, but the Masons and the Fishermen whom developed the rudimentary practice of Geometry and math to accurately measure distance and map out locations. Why fishermen? The Cycloptic Eye can see flawlessly underwater.

>>37007711
>Map out the mainland with the assistance of Gorgons
>Roll 5/20
>Elves counter roll 1/20
>Cyclops don't win, but don't lose either.

Starting from where the Fungal wood has begun to rot away and become over-taken by the New Growth: a team of Gorgon Huntressess and Cyclops stumble through the forest in an attempt to "map it out". They... they don't succeed: The Fungal Forest remains completely dark in it's darkest portions and you mostly follow the River- you are however brought to a few new Gorgon Cities on the way and it is eventually expressed that the Fungal Forest does not go on forever- ending where a large wall of Mountains prevents spores from being carried over to the rest of the mainland.
>>
>>37008236
Is the fungal wood a natural phemonena or one artificially cultivated?
>>
>>37008290
I'm guessing it's a natural phenomena that was empowered and encouraged by the elves.
Now that we have shown up and planted our more invasive flora and fauna, which are stronger thanks to our magic being stronger then elven magic, the fungus has started to die out and get replaced by our preferred enviornment. I expect the elves to be panicking over this.
>>
>>37008236
>new Gorgon Cities on the way and it is eventually expressed that the Fungal Forest does not go on forever- ending where a large wall of Mountains prevents spores from being carried over to the rest of the mainland

Interesting. So this implys that the fungus ends at the mountain line and perhaps there is normal forest on the other side. Makes me think that this fungal forest was created or reinforced by the elves. Wonder what they will do about it disapearing.

Also, Jesus Christ more cities?! How many Gorgon are there? I know Cyclops are not the best at babies but god are we behind.

>Find the depressed Gorgon priestess, try to console her. Show her that the great serpent is still here for her
>Roll 20/20
>Complete Success +Gorgon Sympathy, +Gorgon Elven Resentment,

The Head Gorgon Priestess whom had been so utterly disenfranchised by the display of power shown by the Cyclops emissaries has long since not been the same woman she had been a few years ago when your people had originally introduced themselves. Progressively getting more and more apathetic and disheveled over the years before her position was eventually stripped, her hair cut, and herself being exiled into the wilderness.

Eventually however she was found at the site of the still-rotting great Fungal tree where in she had been squatting in what had this entire time been a long abandoned Gorgon City. Underneath the progressively mulching Carved Cosmic snake she Drank a few years away before the New Growth had overcome enough of the Fungal wood that Cyclops villagers eventually got to her.

They fed her, clothed her, kept her company, and occasionally drank with her- and in between bouts of alcoholism she eventually opened up; venting her entire life story. How she was groomed and bred for her position, how she was forced to lay fertilized eggs to breed "more" priestesses and any unfertilized eggs would be smashed and force fed to her if she did not comply. "They were breeding and grooming us. They wanted us to be as adapt as magic as possible for some purpose- but then you showed up and it was all made pointless."

She still remains listless, but her mood improves around children and young adults. She is middle-aged and currently makes a living as a Seamstress and a Wet nurse. She is no longer an Alcoholic, "but only for the children."

Fine, if you say so, though I put on the name several threads back when we were told to, in order to increase accuracy of voting.
First off, contacting elves:
How do you propose we do that? Walking through the horrifying despotic kingdom that hates us?
Secondly, Gorgons. We're trying to have diplomacy with them, but they appear to be batshit insane and massively evil.
If we contact the merpeople, they may join the civilization as the gorgons did, providing cultural influence at the very least, and perhaps other, more important aid. Also, we need any ally we can get that isn't ultra evil.
>>
>>37008791

It's obvious the gorgons were merely playthings of the elves. It might be possible they started that sort of culture with them in order to control them.

But with us, whatever machinations they had planned are being thrown into disarray. Replacing fungal woods with our kind of woods, converting the gorgons to our culture... we must be a massive threat, even if with our sheer magic potential.

I'm highly expecting them to try and conquer us soon. Or try to slip their hands into making us our unwitting "second Gorgons" for whatever they were planning.

...Or are they doing this to protect themselves from a threat beyond all of us?
>>
>>37008366
See the question is.... Is it natural? If it is natural imagine the species that might be negatively affected? The Triceratops, the Gorgons, the various lizards and buggy things.

If it is indeed unnatural though, and cultivated for the benefit of the elves... Well it might be an idea to re order the enviroment.
>>
>>37009058
Then we shall rise up and defeat this threat like all others we have encountered.
>>
>>37008991
For the elves, it's as simple as sending in a party of heros with the necessary supplies to scout out the forest for their shit. As for the gorgons, I reccomend an rotating team of emissaries with orders to try to secure trade rights with the gorgons. We would then flood their market with our shit and get them to rely on us, additional attempts to convert gorgons and invalidate the ruling priesthood would not go amiss here. Once they are reliant on us, we make them our formal vassals or welcome them into our society as equals.

Honestly, I can see why you want to make contact with the fish people and it's not a bad idea. I just don't want to take the chances and actions only to find that they are evil too or unwilling to ally up with us.

Through numerous crafting, metal-working, and stone working developments as well as the free exchange of ideas and technology flowing through numerous communities and from Gorgon civilization... a couple of things have happened:

>+Stone Mill (Manual powered) invented
The Stone Mill is a large grooved "bowl" construction that possess an equally large, round, smoothed "wheel". The Wheel has a handle feeding out of it that is connected to a pole feeding out of the center of the mill's "bowl". The lever can be pushed either by Hand or by Animal (Elephant, Triceratops). As the Wheel is pushed it can be used to ground up a large quantity of dried fruits and herbs- it is especially useful in making Plantain flour, Fruit alcohol, and spice mixes.

These Stones have been damaging the reefs, but at the same time are causing fish who once avoided the Reefs to start visibly schooling and coming back to the Reefs as the stones pile up and cause the "pocketed" reefs to become destroyed.

A Heroic Cyclopes has ventured out into the Reef pushing past on a quieter day the party dives deep into the coral reefs to further explore the area and try and make contact with the "Merpeople".

They're gone for weeks, but they return with new information: "At the Borders of the depths- where the Corals stop and the darkness of the ocean begin to overtake our vision there lay stand series of large cylindrical coral statues." He goes on to further explain how the statues are carved with the twisting massive images of creatures native to the Deep ocean.

He then brings forth the stones people had been throwing into the Reef. When asked why he collected them of all things- he shows the sage council: One side of the stone remains the same as it was when it was thrown into the ocean.

Honestly, I am kinda at the point where I just want to go full military and enslave the gorgons. They are literally evil incarnate except for a few select outcasts but more importantly, they are a serious threat to our species. Cyclops + Gorgon = Gorgon. This is not good, if we lets them grow unchecked without repercussions, we will be the minority. Honestly, it feels like we should just wall ourselves off and pull a japan by becoming isolationist. We can easily defend our islands and we can easily get advanced technology with enough time. Trying to make nice nice with these evil fucks is only detrimental to ourselves.

>Develop Light Magic
>Roll 65/100 & 67/100
>Above Average success +Census +Fraternal Roll

It's gone unmentioned for quite a long time, but your people haven't exactly been ignoring the giant golden lightning bolt the sun extended down onto one of your islands a few decades a go: it's attracted regular followers and a mildly popular solar priesthood cult has grown around it.

>Spell invented: Conjure Food and Drink (divine) +MANA Discovered+
Mana is a bright orange mildly glowing fluid that the lightning bolt seems to "sweat" from it whenever it's prayed to in great excess. The Fluid appears to be sterile and tastes sweet, tangy, with just a small spicy after taste. People who drink it feel energized and have their thirst completely quenched. The Solar cult occasionally tries to scoop up the liquid into clay pots, but after 24 hours evaporates completely. SOME of your Solar priests have managed to replicate this phenomena: using a Gold medium they can "pour" Mana into empty containers- the Mana however still only lasts for 24 hours. What they haven't been able to replicate though is the strange, orange, doughy, chewey, substance that congeal into fist-sized lumps at the bottom of the pooling mana before the Lighting bolts crater. These "lumps" of mana are !~DELICIOUS~! and cultists are all too eager to fish them out during dusk and dawn.

>+Astromancy Discovered+
Something that has been observed, documented, and replicated by both the Solar priesthood and a few sages and private individuals is the practice of what has only been glimpsed in the writings of the Blind Sage Scrolls: Astromancy. The Divination and manipulation of the softest echoes chiming from stars, sun, and moon that faintly hum over the world. Loudest at night- Astromancy doesn't seem to offer any powers or magics beyond simply producing beams of focused "white" lunar or astral light that can either be used to heal or cause minor injury.

>Construct a Temple to the Cosmic Snake in order to commune with it once more.
>Roll 42/100
>Failure. +Massive Census reached, +AgroForestry, +Gorgon Favor

The Council of Sages have put forth a commission towards the construction of a new public temple to the Cosmic Snake... however there is conflict between traditional island Cyclopean and very few of the skilled craftsmen, masons, and geomancers living on the islands are not in support of worshiping or paying respects to some "obscure animal god".

A Few of the Exiled priestesses and even the Ex-Head priestess are summoned to the Council for their advice and eventually a census is reached between both Cyclopes and Gorgons: A Cyclopean style temple will NOT be built, but instead; where the massive New Growth tree named "Old snake" has grown there shall be a NEW Cosmic snake carved and gently wood-worked into the Tree.

With the use of Wood-workers, Botanomancers and Farmer consultants the entire project takes about a year: The Massive new growth tree known as "Old snake" is slightly pruned and the visage of a great, entwining, cosmic snake is carved into the outer most layer of Bark upon the Tree. The Cyclopes however take a little Artistic license and the numerous Eyes, Snakes, Cyclopes, the fungal wood, and even the moon and stars are all carved into a massive mural that intertwine and compliment the NEW Cosmic Snake shrine.

>Improved housing/city conditions
>Roll 69/100
>LUCKY 69 ROLL: Interesting results!

With the increase in population and the advances in Geometry and mathematics your people can scarcely afford to construct cities the same way they had been building their villages of haphazardly placed dwellings of zone, bamboo, etc..
Walls are constructed, two-story houses are built, inner-city roads made of stone are becoming common, and designated spots for Markets, Temples, and Sage council meetings are all measured out with concise city planning behind them.
Your people and Cities are no longer being built "out" but they are being built UP: Multi-layered, hilled, construction is possible with plateaus of stone and soil being constructed- further supported by lines and orchards of green areas to provide food and disallow erosion. Gorgon dwellings especially- as one large Cyclopean villa can host several Gorgon dwellings on top of it- creating something of an inter-species apartment building.

Another thing that has been brought in is running water: Fresh water can now be adequately flown in throughout the cities as it pools and flows through the various shelves and levels.

>+City planning discovered: Cities are no longer an unorganized mess of hovels. They're organized, orderly, and planned out increasing efficiency, hygeine, and living space..

>+BEACHED JORMUNGANDR/World Snake+

The Waves bring a lot of interesting things upon the shores of your island- that's always been something of an iconic way to open any Cyclopean folktale, but this time something really interesting HAS been brought upon the Waves.

A Serpent, an impossible and ridiculously long and massive DEAD serpent has beached itself upon the shores of not just one of your islands- but Three of them. This Serpent is so ridiculously large that it's dead body extends from the Home island, one of the reef islands- with it's tail slumped over onto the bay island.

The Communities don't really know what to make of it: Most people have immediately started scavenging it for meat and hides as they've observed SWARMS of birds and fish making a mad dash to consume it's body- there are so many fish feeding upon the submerged portion their combined fish mass trace a visible imprint of the snakes dead body across the islands.

What should be done? The Gorgons all live on the mainland, so they're unaware of this new find.
You guys may feel free to roll for new ideas and actions now.

>Introduce the Gorgons to the Giant Snake and craft, process, and develop as many goods as possible from the Snake.
>Roll 17/20
>Success

Any Gorgon that is brought or otherwise introduced to the Dead body immediately starts worshiping it: thinking it is a physical manifestation of the Cosmic snake, beyond that though their reactions are all quite varied. Some of them are grabbing and swallowing whole entire portions of it's raw flesh ((Yes, Gorgons can unhinge their jaw and swallow things like a snake, but it hasn't been plot worthy and neither has their private sex lives with the Cyclopes)), some of them are dragging off the bones of the creature to be carved into Snake Totems or snapping of smaller pieces to be used as charms, jewlery, or charms. The Snakeskin is being used for making Bags, Robes, Leggings, and Boots for everything from ritual purposes to.. just looking absolutely stunning.

Snake fat is also collected by the handfuls and is used from anything from cooking to fueling fat-oil lamps. It doesn't burn as well as Seal or Elephant fat, however....
>+Accidentally discovered Tallow&Suet
>There is just SO much Snake Fat that your people can't help but experiment with it in every possibly way they can think of- this eventually produces TALLOW and SUET. This fat product at this point is mostly used to make Candles and for deep frying.

The Communion is Botched.

Something Else is contacted instead.

The Blackness that defines the depths of the "Deep ocean" seem to come alive- The darkness slowly advancing towards the mainland like a living shadow.
The Tide stops coming in- eventually very slowly and visibly starting to pull back and RECEDE as if the ocean was recoiling back into itself out of fear.

The Ocean empties itself of fish as they can be seen visibly swimming away in fear.
The Sky empties itself of birds as they can be seen obscuring the sun with their flocks flying away.

>Roll 20/20
>Complete counter roll

People on the islands can't help but notice the unnatural calmness of the sea and they all look out upon the absent tide.

HOWEVER, something strange begins to happen: a distinct crackling, hissing, and sizzling can be heard throughout the islands and people from all over the Cyclopean Archipelago whom had consumed the flesh have begun to wretch and puke- emptying their bellies of the snake they had consumed- before their expulsions quickly evaporate into wafting nothingness. Snakeskin clothing, accessories, and items likewise are all seen flaking, falling apart, and drifting off like ash from a fire.

The World Snake's body is gone- only the Bones remain. All scraps of flesh, skin, fat, and tissue have been taken away.

And like the World snake's body, so too does the coming darkness from the depths disappear: The blackness recedes back into the Ocean depths it once came from- seemingly giving back the fish and the tide it had scared away.

>Roll 18/20
>Success

The Flesh may be gone, but the bones remain- the Skeleton of the World serpent has been hanging around for a few weeks now ever since the rest of it was mysteriously spirited away and your council of sages is convinced that it isn't going anywhere any time soon. They think it would make an excellent bridge foundation: The Spine of the Serpent's skeleton can even be occasionally seen peeking out from the waves in the shallowest portions of the reef's ocean.

It Takes Years, Rope, Stones, Geomancy, Hydromancy, Boats, and a lot of volunteers before even one Bridge is finished, but teams are committed and spirits are high as by the time it takes to even make 1 bridge proves that the skeleton of the World Snake is capable of withstanding the waves and supporting further bridges.

Time passes, but eventually the bridges are completed: Three Rope, Stone and Bone supported bridges crafted upon the back of the World snake's remains connecting three islands with one another..... It certainly can't be walked on during a storm, but on calm weather it's something to behold.

This has been stated long before during our Caveman stage, but Cyclopes possess a number of adaptations that initially assisted them in travel between their native island communities: ability to hold their breath for 15-20 minutes, the physical quality of being able to perpetually float unassisted, and the Cycloptic eye is capable of seeing BETTER underwater then it can on land.

Currently as it stands: Your physical qualities prevent you from having a desire to make those developments at this time.

>Construct Public Baths
>Mercy gming
>Roll 93/100
>Success +Soap

City planning has progressively got more and more out of hand it seems with all these roads, irrigation, and running water.. and it has naturally lead to the development of large BATHS. Baths have been constructed in each city: Large, shallow, and with a false bottom so that wood may be burned at the baths HEATED- these baths are extremely popular and their management and cleaning is taken quite seriously. They are also EXTREMELY popular with Gorgons; whom love soaking, socializing, and bathing within Herbal baths...Though, Cyclopes do not appreciate it when they use it as a spot to shed the scales on their forearms and ankles. The public Baths on the mainland are almost entirely staffed by Gorgon Maidens.

>+Public Baths invented+
>Public Baths allow friends, families, and neighbors to scrub up and spend some personal time together: alleviating social tension and strengthening social bonds. They also have the obvious bonus of DRAMATICALLY increasing the personal hygiene of your population.

>Success +Census reached, +Long time coming

The Mainland community "has" had a few standard Megaliths and Monolithic structures: A circle of customary "eyed" stones encircling the location where in the Sages call their council and a traditional line of smaller "eyed" stones lining the shore... but The Mainland City lacks a TRUE and HONEST Monolith like that of the Home island.
This changes today: Plans are written up, Ditches are dug, Fresh volcanic stone is quarried and imported from the various islands, Iron Belts and Bracers are smithed and fashioned. The Stone is engraved, gold smithed finishings are lined into the engravings, and it is erected in record time.

This NEW Monolith now rests at the seat of the Mainland community: It can be used from anything to communion, public meetings, to holidays.

Good. If we didn't have so many of our Gorgons on the mainland then I would suggest empowering it even more. Who knows what kind of secondary effects the power will have on the land. Nothing good for the elves, that's sure.

>Domesticate the Peccary
>Roll 19/20
>Complete Success +Agricultural bonus, +Environmental Bonus

The Peccary is a small, bristly, fruit-eating little animal that can be held using two-hands and is about twice as large as a Banana rat- but not as big or as fat as a Tapir. The peccary however IS very sociable and it can live within herds of up to 60 or even 100 individuals as they scour the jungle floor for fruit, roots, and edible plant matter.

Even though the Males can be QUITE aggressive they've proven to be suitable for domestication: They can be fed on the waste produced by kitchens and agriculture (Fruit Rinds, long hanging shrubs, weeds, and expired fruit) and they are content and trust worthy enough to either roam around villages/town or simply dwell within adequate pens.

They also make popular pets as they are found to be VERY cute: cutie oinky noises, cutie snuffling nosies, absolutely ~Adorable~ .

>+Domesticated the Peccary+
>The Peccary is an excellent domesticated animal: it breeds often, is very sociable, it eats plant "garbage", it's poop spreads seeds and makes excellent fertilizer, it's meat is tasty -especially when soaked in fruit alcohol before slowly cooking it in it's fat- and their bristly fur make excellent brushes.

Yeah, They work in rotation too. Pretty sure we have done a good job of spreading the good news by now. Too bad we don't know more specific spells to impress and help. Though it's more like our people focus the magic and chant for things to happen, so it could be we need to think of our magic as different from the traditional 'fireball' 'featherfall' type.

I feel like our magic works by empowering nature and asking (chanting/singing) nature to do something with that power. Spirits might also be involved. Magic might come from the aether, our own people, or the Spirits/Sun+Moon+Stars.

>Experiment on Parrats with Megaliths and Hymns.
>Roll 91
>Parrat Roll 98
>Complete Parrat Success

Parrats are gathered in woven Cages- it isn't difficult as their populations have dramatically swelled- and they are brought forth to the Megaliths on the Home island community so that their nature may be divined.

Things, go.. a little too well.

They have come to acknowledge and recognize the Hymn- through an extension of their own natural ability to mimic and learn; they have made an attempt to "Parrat" the Hymns sung to them and they were successful. A distinct depth is unlocked and is mirrored in the awareness expressed within their beady little eyes.

They then proceed to escape.

None of the Sages want to talk about what actually happened- the details are quite foggy, but it's most likely they were drinking and being irresponsible.

>+Parrats Accidentally made Sapient+
>Parrat's are small reptile-like Birds that resemble a cross between a Rat and a Parrot: Feathers giving way to gripping, dexterous, scaled rat-like claws on their hands and feet that are capable of manipulating tools and possess a long rattish, monitor lizard-like tail. They subsist of off fruit, nuts, tiny creatures such as lizards and insects. They are at heart a very mischievous species: prone to stealing food and shiny objects, as well as mimicking profanities. Parrats typically mate for life and will produce a clutch of (5-10)eggs each year. Their are primarily preyed upon by Boiling lizards, Monitor Lizards, large birds and on the mainland by Raptors. Gorgons however have also been known to hunt, cook, and eat them as well.

So just how many Gorgon are there and how many citys? Elves? It seems like they have gone far past us in population, and have a decent bonus in industry. While we have a culture bonus and huge magic bonus thanks to much dedication to the two.
>>
>>37014333
When you say sky... you mean sun moon stars right?
>>
>>37014286

>About what fraction of the main island is 'in use' by our people and what part is still isle forest?

I'm going to say 2/3rds of the "home island" are now covered in Cyclopean development, but that doesn't mean it's just covered in city/dwellings/hovels since a lot of that land is devoted to orchards and farmland. Cyclopean farming techniques have been quite "forgiving" so wildlife is still going strong and even in highly populated or city areas- Fruiting trees and edible plants are encouraged to grow wherever.

>how far along has the island plantlife encroached into the mainland?
I tried to visibly express that in the opening "map", but the NEW GROWTH has extended so far in that it now extends well beyond the walls of the village- for miles in fact. It's grown so far that the "old cosmic snake" tree has been consumed and the other Gorgon villages aren't too far.

Keep in mind that the chunk of world we're working with isn't small: our Home island is about as large as Sri-lanka and that strip of land containing the Fungal wood is comparable to Madagascar or the quarter/tip of Argentina.

>have our people set up villages past the wall on the mainland?
Nothing permanent: The walls were built originally quite far out and your people are more comfortable with conditions "close to shore" since during times of hardship or famine they can more easily jump ship and simply forage in the Ocean until things cool over.

Most interaction between the other side of the wall is a few Cyclopes Hunters/Woodsmen and a LOT of Gorgon Huntressess.
>>
>>37014423
Yep. Maybe a little talk with the spirits as well. Communing with the spirits on the mainland could nab us some jucy info.
>>
>>37014320
>How have our people been dealing with hostile/predatory life forms? Like the Boiling lizards? Its been a while since I've last heard of them.

We don't really have any beyond the boiling lizard and Boiling lizards are pretty content to mind their own business: they're more likely to go further into the jungle or simply swim to different shores and nest/hunt on different islands.

They've almost entirely been pushed off of the Home island- 'cept for a few "truly" wild spots left in the very back of the island. Most of them chill out on the Bay, Reef, and Bamboo islands where development isn't as rampant.

Though, with that said: Boiling Lizards and Tapirs are the most at threat of extinction right now due to habitat loss and ecological changes.
>>
>>37014483
btw I love how you kept the Cyclopes affinity for ocean-dwelling life since they were originally the spawn of Poseidon
>>
>>37014483
>Your people are more comfortable with conditions "close to shore" since during times of hardship or famine they can more easily jump ship and simply forage in the Ocean until things cool over
Feels like there's room there to further stockpile food or else make it easier to get more food quickly.

This is the most important.
>>
>how far along has the island plantlife encroached into the mainland?
I tried to visibly express that in the opening "map", but the NEW GROWTH has extended so far in that it now extends well beyond the walls of the village- for miles in fact. It's grown so far that the "old cosmic snake" tree has been consumed and the other Gorgon villages aren't too far.

Dear god that's a massive range of territory. Sri Lanka alone is about 25,000 sq. miles, and Madagascar has nearly 10 times that landmass. And we have a combined population of 3285 cyclops and Gorgons. Our lands are massively underpopulated.

I very strongly feel that part of good world building when in a fantasy realm is to leave some things purposefully vague or mysterious. I think I'd be doing a disservice to myself, the readers, and the current story if I spoiled what happened.

It's better if I leave it up for speculation.

So guys what do you think we should do for a peace offering to the Parrats?

They seem they might be good for things like food ... and giving them weapons is kind of akin to giving a kid fireworks and expecting them not to drop them down the toilet.

It makes me wonder if Cyclopses have any concept of Playthings? Or Play?

What if we gave Parrats annoying meaningless things like tops and little hoops with sticks or whatever those things were?

They strike me as a species that likes to be entertained... considering they've murdered two cyclopses in memory with the banana peel prank.

I think we should research the ways of the gods so we don't cause a cataclysm ever session.

Yeah Maybe we should do a big time communion with the stars. We did the Sun with the Solar Priests, and the Moon with the Blind Sages and The Weeping Sage. We should see if we can commune with the stars.
