Your name is Melissa Madison and you are having the most uninspired nightmare ever. A little less that two weeks ago you were a mostly average high-school student with the mostly normal habits of playing with bugs and eating things you probably shouldn't. Today you are floating in a dark endless void and feeling like someone bandaged you in bedsheets made of ice-water and poison ivy.

A couple of weeks ago you were caught up in a lab experiment gone wrong, a lab experiment that came with the nice little boon of turning you into an insect powered super-human. You can run for miles and not get tired, you can dive off buildings and not even need to brace yourself for landing, you can even pop out you new pair of antennae and TASTE the air. As an even better bonus, thanks to your more than human physiology, you managed to let your mother's consciousness tag along inside your head when she found her self without a body. Things were going pretty great in general until you screwed up in chemical laced gambit to grow yourself a pair of wings and wound up a blood covered pin cushion. You managed to pull off a last minutes emergency save, but you're not sure if it worked.

You currently have no idea what time is is and you are floating in an endless(?) void.

> This thing can't really be endless, can it? [Try and move forward]

You try and move your head to get a better view at what the Void looks like. The muscles in your neck tremor and pinch at even the smallest movements but you manage to shift your sight regardless. Eventually, after bringing your head to what you think counts a left in this case you feel you body drift a little. Not like the drifting feeling you get when you over shoot a movement, but a feeling like trying to stop yourself from while sliding in a bath tub. Are you underwater?

Completely invested in your new realization you shift your body every way you can to see if the feeling match up. Above you, below you, to your left and to your right. You move your head and shoulders slowly in each direction and in each direction you're greeted with the same resisting feeling of water.

You almost panic for a second when you realize your totally submerged with out and source of air and try and hold your breath. This last all of two seconds until you start coughing and swallow some of the liquid you're surrounded with. The thick almost slime like liquid burns as it makes it's way down your throat causing you to cough more and swallow more. In what seems like an endless cycle you cough, swallow, and wince in pain until the burning sensation inside your throat and chest fades. When you collect yourself enough to reopen your eyes and look around you notice

Not just the pain in you chest but also in your neck and on your back. Nothing hurts anymore.

You shudder at the familiar sensation as you feel your antennae push out from you scalp with a dull throbbing pain. The liquid that's filling the void is throwing off your senses but you extend your antenna as far as the can go to try and condensate for the soft current slowly trying to push them away.

>67

'A current!'

In a movement quick enough to give you whiplash you curl your body up and rotate yourself so that you're now floating upside down. Reaching out your hands you stretch out as far as you can forward and- Yes! There's a wall here! You still can't see anything in front of you, the space where your hands still looks identical to everything else in the massive space. But you can definitely feel a wall.

Fingers flying across the smooth surface you look for anything that might help you, a crevice, a handhold, anything. Your heart almost burst when you finally find something. There's a small protrusion on the wall, even more exciting is that it has a something shaped like a grip that fits neatly in your hand.

Not even bothering to think about why it's there or if touching it is a good idea you wrap your hand firmly around the grip and give it a hard pull.

And then everything collapses.

The endless expanses of the Void surrounding you instantly melt away, replaced by distorted translucent walls and fractured blue lighting. at the same time the soft current that's been coming from the general direction of the wall violently reverses itself pulling you in with more force than you can fight.

Desperately trying to cling onto anything that you can you brace yourself against the wall while the weight of the massive current pushes you flat against it. After what seems like at least a minute of struggling, the pressure on your body lifts as if it was never there.

The prickling sensation of air flowing against your skin tells you that you aren't in the watery void anymore as you open you eyes and try to adjust to the awkward lights around you. Giving your head a shake to focus you uncurl your body from the fetal position and try your best to stand up. Managing to get an arm under you and shift up enough to get your feet set a crouch you take a look around.

It looks like you're in some sort of warehouse,or maybe an alleyway? There's a pile of crates next to a rusty ladder to your right and a long hallway to your left.

Oh, yeah, and there's totally a woman floating in a tank right in front of you.

Trying your best not to fall over like a drunk, you open your arms wide to steady yourself as you walk over to the tank.

Brown hair, slight build, slim shoulders. The girl inside doesn't just look like you, you realize. She probably is you.

You set out a frustrated sign, "Damnit Dad, didn't you say you'd stop with the clones after wa-"

But as soon as those words are out of your mouth you feel a chill go down your back.

Clone

There's a clone of you here, in a tank full of water.
You were floating in a void not even a two minute ago. In a void full of water...

"N-no, NO!" You're mind instantly goes blank as you desperately try and remember the chain of events than led to you floating in that void. You remember going to the library the library to pick up books, you remember happily talking to Mom about your Dad's birthday present. You remember coming home and going into the basement to try and grow a pair of wings. You remember being covered in blood...

No! Thought rejected, you refuse to believe something this stupid. This can't be happening, this is not happening.

You lift your head to take a look at the girl again, staring at her so hard enough that if laser vision was one of your powers she'd probably be incinerated by now.

There's only one problem, she's staring right back at you.

"Yo-" You want to scream at her, you want to run away from her, you want to smash that tank and show her that there's only one Melissa Madison in this world and you're her. But the second she opened her eyes and looked at you, you couldn't bring yourself to do anything but smile in return.

You step over to the side of her tanks looking for a release valve or a control panel or something. She tries to follow you with her head but it looks like she's can't quite get her balance inside the water filled tank. Her body slides to the side softly and bumps against the glass as you finally find what you're looking for. It's a small red grip on the bottom side of the tank that says 'Emergency Release' on its base in florescent yellow lettering.

"I'm really sorry about this but you'll thank me when you're out." Or you hope she will. Getting out of those tanks sucked pretty bad when you went through it.

Slowly pulling the release valve until you can hear the audible noise of liquid draining you stand back up and once again meet eyes with your other self. She looks a little startled buy the rapid draining but she's not laying against the drain like you were so at least she's not getting crushed by the pressure.

"Alright, while you're going that I'll set us up with some clothes, okay?"

Turning you back on her and walking over to a nearby crate You pull off a pair of cloth sheets that looks like they were used for packing material and turn back to the draining tank. By the time you've wrapped one of the sheets around you like a toga her tank has finished draining and she's sitting on the platform where it used to be and looking like a drowned puppy while doing it.

1/2
>>
You wrap her in the second sheet and sit down next to her.

"So, My names Melissa. What's yours?" Sure it's just about the stupidest thing you could say but you had to start some where.

She starts as if she's going to speak but let's out a hacking cough that ends with her spitting some bright blue bile out on the floor.
Once she's done she looks back at you and cracks a lopsided grin.
"Dad's such a jerk, right?"

You try to hold the laughter in, you really do. But the fact that instead of freaking out and attacking you or just pretending you don't exist (both things you were totally thinking of doing) she's just complaining about how dad never listens to you. It's really too much to take. You have to wait a few second and catch your breath, straitening your legs and standing up before you reply to her.

"You're right, he's terrible. So let's go tell him how unfair it is. Maybe since they're two of us he'll listen this time."

She slowly stands up next to you and strains her neck to the side, letting out an audible popping sound. "Doubt it, but it's work a shot."

The two of you make your way over to the old ladder bolted to the wall next to the stacked crates you pulled your current clothes from.
Letting her go first, the pair of you make your way up the ladder, stopping every once and a while to test the strength of the next wrung or ask how the others holding up.

"Hey, heads up. I think we're here." You clone buddy says before she disappears into the wall with her sheet dragging over a lip after her.

You speed up a little before you come to the top of the ladder, pulling your head up over the lip before a hand comes down to your level.
"Going up?" You can almost hear her grinning as you take her hand and she pulls your entire body up the ladder and onto the ground with one quick jerk.

The two of you are now standing in front of a glass window looking out into what you're almost certain is your Dad's lab in the basement. You say 'almost' certain because there are two things present in the lab today that aren't exactly normal. The first is what looks like a massive moth cocoon sitting in the center of the room, the other is a pretty upset looking girl with her face angled away from you, glaring at the cocoon like it stole her last curly fry.

"Hey, isn't that." Your clone-buddy doesn't bother to finish her sentence as she presses herself up against the glass trying to get a better look at the two newcomers on the other side.

At least she was before the cocoon suddenly exploded, sending slabs of the cocoon, bits of organic gunk and one very surprised girl across the room and strait at your window.

Before you can even fully register what's happening outside of the window your partner is already halfway through releasing a hay-maker into the window to get to the other side. Falling into perfect sync with her you take a step back and begin running full tilt into the window. Clone-Mel's fist impacts against the window shattering it to pieces in an instant. And not even a second after the barrier has broken down your body goes hurtling though it.

Focusing your eyes on the flying pieces of the exploded cocoon still threatening to bowl all three of you over and into the maintenance shaft you just climbed out of, you aim you landing at the side of a nearby desk. Catching yourself on the corner of the desk you use the leverage of your jump to upend the table and turn it into a barricade against the shrapnel.

Now that you have a space clear of danger you just need to grab the girl. Looking to your clone who's just finished shaking out her bloodied hand and clearing the broken window you blindly reach out with your arm.

>91

"Now" The other Melissa gives the signal and you make a desperate snatch into thin air. Thanks to your perfect timing you fish the girl's body out of the air before you even see her flying past. Trying not to break her arm with a sudden stop, you swing her around the side of the desk and let her go in the direction of Clone-Mel, who has just skid to a stop in the safe zone. The two collide with each other just a little too hard for comfort but your partner handles it like a pro, covering the girls head with her arms as they smash into the wall behind the upturned desk.

>1/2
>>
You're about to go over to check on the two girls when a familiar flirty voice cuts through you train of thought like a razor.

"Oh, look Melissa!" Isn't that Sandra's daughter?"

She's here. Not in you imagination, not in a glowing test-tube, not even in your head.
The person standing just on the other side of the desk you turned over and casually walking over to you as if the place wasn't covered in spider webbing and splintered cocoon casings, definitely is you mother. There's only one problem.

Maya Madison has a body. But you're pretty sure it used to be yours.

Congratulations on finishing the Prologue everyone!
Since it's finally over I can tell you anything without spoiling the surprises.

>>36964582
To be honest, you sort of killed yourself when that botched power concoction caused you to grow spines and pierce every organ your body had. The only reason you could even move after that was because Mom had turned off your pain receptors and was boosting you to the Max.

>>36964611
There are as many clones as you can get your dad to make.
Powers outside the general template are gained through experience, so no.
And Dad's beeen trying to bring Mom back for a while. It makes sense that' he'd have a spare body encase Melissa needed one.

>>36964619
>>36964742
Cloning here normally works somewhat like that Schwarzenegger movie "The 6th day." .

I say normally because neither you or Maya are completely broken when it comes to this. Melissas mind got jettisoned from her body and meant to the first place if found that was compatible. Mel-2 works normally in that she's an exact copy as you were the last time she was updated.

And if you want a hive-mind you're going to have to roll for it.

So gonna roll for that hive mind. With mom! Because she's technically got our brain! She can still give us brain hugs!

But why is she saying "Oh look Melissa it's the..." If we're not still in our old head? Has she not realized Melissa is dead?

Well no, she's actually talking to you in that scene.

She's a God of Insects and you're a Insect-DNA infused person who also happens to share part of her base genetic code.

She totally knows you're there.

Also, here's that Sara image that I was messing with earlier if anyone wants it.

I getcha. Still bummed as hell that we died because "DRINK ALL THE THINGS!" Keeps getting selected.

Don't be, what really decided it was a 3d100 I rolled last thread for who was going to have control of your body inside the cocoon.

Mom won, but if Melissa had then it would have been Her waking up in that tank instead of you.
