"Commander?" ALICE asks tentatively. What can an AI be tentative about?

"Yes, m'dear?" you reply casually.

"Call came in for Miss Haman and Miss Artesia."

"And?" Artesia asks brightly. "Well come on, who is it?"

"Char Aznable."

Haman and Artesia exchange an awkward glance.

"Well," you reply after a few seconds of inaction. "Put him through, ALICE."

The largest screen in the room comes online, revealing a familiar face framed by blonde hair. You would have expected him to be smiling, but at the moment Char is frowning at you.

“Artesia,” he observes. “We need to talk.”

“I'm disinclined at the moment, Casval,” Artesia replies casually. “Maybe another time?”

"The man called you from..." your voice falters, uncertain. "From wherever he is. Might as well talk to him."

Artesia seems to ponder the matter for a moment. Haman glares angrily at the screen, remaining silent.

"Very well," Artesia agrees. "So, Casval, I assume if you took the trouble to contact me. What for?"

Char, or Casval, or whatever he wants to call himself, straightens his uniform as he notices the tension in the air on your end of the call. He makes sure not to make eye contact with Haman, focusing entirely on his sister.

"With that major event in Dakar," Char explains, "I figured it would be beneficial to share information, plans, that sort of thing."

"You called me to share intelligence?" Artesia sighs. "Fine. What do you need to know, and what do we need to know?"

"I listened to your speech," Char continues. "Am I to understand that you are separating yourselves from the Titans?"

"Seems that way," Haman quips. "Very perceptive of you."

Artesia shushes Haman with one hand. "They probably don't feel too great about us now. Why?"

"So what faction are you planning to join now?"

It's worked fairly well for us so far. We work fine with other groups when the situation calls for it, but ultimately we're pretty much our own independent faction at this point.

>Probably staying in the EFSF
>There may be a new faction forming in Dakar, we may work with them
Stick with the EFSF if possible, it's important that we frame this in terms of loyal EFSF soldiers verses the treasonous Titans. Makes for much better PR than joining another group. But we should still cultivate a relationship with the nascent AEUG, incorporate them into our structure if we can, and have an out if the EFSF becomes too compromised to work with.

“I dunno,” Artesia admits. “Unlike some people we may know, I know how and when to listen instead of speaking.”

Ouch. Char winces visibly at the not-so-subtle rebuke.

Karen steps in before Haman gets the chance to add insult to Artesia's injury. “We've been keeping our options open, for now. It's what's worked for us in the past.”

“And we can't commit to one faction just yet anyway, Johnny,” you add as Char sighs loudly. “I think staying with the EFSF is an option, and there's a new faction forming... Karaba, I think?”

“And if all else fails,” Carya concludes, “we're capable of going it alone. After all, we don't even know which factions will still be there next week, let alone by the time Titans or Mars make their respective moves.”

“Fair,” Char agrees, “but it may not be enough. There's been enough division in the wake of your little stunt that it may be difficult to build relations with any of the major players who are left. It would pay to begin that sort of planning soon.”

Although the primary concern at this point are the Titans, there's also the matter regarding our unfinished business with the Principality remnants.
I just can't help but think they might use this schism as an opportunity to undermine... well, both Feds and Titans simultaneously, if given the chance. Everyone would be too distacted to pay any attention to them.

“Well, Manfred,” you muse aloud, prompting a loud groan, “I was actually thinking about the Principality remnants.”

It takes nearly ten whole seconds for Char to catch your drift. He can't feel on his end that behind your carefully controlled face you're joking, but your friends can.

“They always have been reliable,” Rosse points out.

The Sisters have to stifle a giggle. “They've got such snappy uniforms, too.”

“I still have mine,” Haman adds.

Char's sunglasses slip from his nose as he leans forward at the screen. “I... you...”

Finally, it seems your grin convinces him that you were only kidding. “Fuck you, O'Hara.”

“Fuck you too, Mister Richtoffen,” you shoot back.

“So what faction are you courting?” Artesia asks after the laughter dies down.

Char retrieves his polarized glasses, pushing them back onto his face before brushing a stray strand of hair out of his face. “I was planning to join Karaba,” he explains.

“Why?” you ask, suddenly curious.

“Because Amuro Ray is planning to join.”

>Are you sure that's a smart idea?

>>

I know that, I've been following this quest since the beginning. I just mean that so far all of Dom's nicknames have been people he could actually know about. Why call him Rau all of a sudden unless there's a Rau Le Crueset filling a similar conceptual niche as Char for him to reference?
>>
>>36888948
>Red Baron

I wonder what Char enjoys on his Tombstone.
>>
You know if we actually join the new fraction being made and char does as well then the titans and the rest of the fractions that are causing trouble are kind of screwed. It would have us, our team, Char, and Amaro all on one side.

Something inside you immediately snaps for some reason. Your face doesn't show it, but each and every Newtype in the room (and there are a lot of them right now) seems to know. Even Karen takes a step back, and the image of ALICE on the screen flickers, reappearing somewhere off to the left.

You feel yourself smile. "Oh? And are you sure that's wise?"

"What do you mean?" Char asks, obviously confused.

"You seem awfully obsessed with this young man," you continue. "Your sister is here after having declared war on Titans before the Assembly, on television, and you haven't spared her a word of congratulations or even shown an interest in her safety. The girl who fell in love with you on Axis is here, and you haven't spoken to her at all. The woman who carried your child is here, and you haven't asked for her. Even the last living ZABI is on this ship, and it's not your concern."

"So what," you press as your knuckles pop ominously, "is so special about Amuro Ray?"

Char seemingly takes it in stride. "He's the one living man who truly understands me. Not Casval Deikun, not Char Aznable, not Quattro Bajeena: the true me, which only comes out in battle."

"So that's why you're running this time?" Artesia quietly concludes. "Because the weight of all your lies and facades have caught up with you."

"Yes," Char admits.

"When you're ready to move on, call me again," she replies. "Do you have a message for Natalie?"

"Tell her I'm sorry."

"Anything else to say?"

"Take care, Artesia."

The call ends abruptly, terminated on Char's end.

"I'm sorry, Artesia. He's an ass, and you don't deserve to be treated that way. I think on some level he knows that. He called even his birth name of Casval Deikun a fake identity, but not Edward Mass. Not the name he wore when it was just you and him together as kids. He knows, Artesia, even if he won't acknowledge it. He knows you're worth more than any battle he could ever fight. Maybe someday he'll admit it to himself. And until that day comes, we'll be here for you. We're not so stupid as to ignore all the wonderfulness you have to offer. So come on. Let's all of us just enjoy ourselves for a while before we have to go back to being soldiers."

We all knew Char had a thing for Amuro. Now it's out in the open. We should order a wedding cake complete with a salmon pink Zaku-II wearing a tux arm-and-arm with the RX-78 in a wedding dress. >>

“He's an ass,” you observe quietly.

“He is,” Artesia agrees. “Always has been, probably always will be.”

You shrug. “There was one name he didn't write off entirely as being a facade.”

“Edward Mass?”

“Bingo.”

Artesia spares you a sidelong glance. “You really think that wasn't an omission? 'Edward Mass' died a long time ago.”

“And became Char Aznable,” you remind her. “Who knows, maybe there's still some part of him that wants to go back to the way he was before the War.”

“And maybe Amuro is his key to getting there,” Haman adds. “I have to admit, as much as I hate the man even I'd like to see him fill his potential. What's disgusted me most is what he COULD have been, but chose not to be.”

The room remains silent until you clap your hands.

“Well, that's enough of that then!” you declare. “Who's up for a party?”

“I could go for a party,” Rosse admits.

Audrey nods quietly. “Hey, I won't complain. Captain?”

Karen shrugs. “If you're looking to me for permission, you've got it.”

The three Puru sisters, who have remained silent with Audrey the whole time, are clambering over Carya to suggest ideas. All three seem anxious to start partying as soon as humanly possible.

“We need cake!” Marida shouts.

“You could teach me to play 'Mario Kart', big bro!” Diana insists.

Okay, ALICE should set up the karaoke machine (she absolutely has to take a turn at some point, she is literally a Vocaloid) and get games up on the big screen. The Twins can handle booze, they're our connoisseurs there. Audrey on tunes, Rossweisse gets party food brought up. We'll go around inviting people from throughout the ship. It's... a day. Probably still September. A quick glance at your watch tells you it's the 18th and oh god why does it hurt to move?

What were you... there was a party? It was a party, you think. On a ship.... the Nagato?

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Looking slowly around you reveals a royal mess in your quarters: clothing strewn haphazardly about the room, lampshades askew, towels on the floor. There's even a bra hanging from the damn ceiling fan.

Your ability to turn your head is limited, however, by your company. Present are the expected bodies that used to be your teammates: Audrey snores quietly, a bottle tucked under her arm, to one side. On the other is Carya and Catrina, both of whom are out cold. Haman is curled up with her, an empty bottle of whiskey nestled between their breasts. You eventually realize that your head isn't actually on a pillow: that's Rossweisse's belly. She seems to be the least out of it of your entire crew, stirring with a contented sigh and squirming a little.

More unexpectedly, you find that there are more bodies than that here. One of them has red hair...

... oh God, that can't be Karen? Oh sweet baby Christ on a motorcycle it is. And she's not wearing anything. It's actually not an unpleasant thing to wake up to in and of itself, but it's the implications that have you worried.

"ALICE?" you moan weakly, looking around you further. Laying across Karen on her belly you spot Artesia, her face planted firmly in Audrey's cleavage.

"ALICE?" you ask louder, surprise and a twinge of fear giving strength and clarity to your foggy mind.

Around your legs are a trio of similarly-sized figures, each in varying states of undress.

>If you sneak very quietly, maybe they won't wake up. You need to get clear of all this, come up with a plan.
>Oh who are you kidding, you're fucked anyway. May as well try and relax before Karen murders you: wouldn't do to die tired.

There were quite a few ways you thought you would go out when your time came. But this? This wasn't one of those. But you suppose you have to admit, there are plenty of worse ways to spend your last few minutes in the world of the living than being surrounded by beautiful, semi-naked women.

That state of calm is how Karen finds you half an hour later when she finally wakes up. After looking around, briefly disoriented, her eyes lock on you.

"You seem like you're enjoying yourself, Commander," she growls.

"This is the look of a man who has accepted his fate," you reply calmly, shutting your eyes. "I have lived as few men ever dreamed. I face my demise with no regrets."

Karen glanced down at Marida, Diana, and Cynthia, who are snuggled together somewhere around your knees.

"The hell is this?" she continues in a low voice.

>I wish I knew. Maybe ask if ALICE has any records available?
>I have no idea, you'll have to ask them.

Maybe it was regular Twister game turned strip Twister after a few bottles, then everyone kept tacking on bonus points for creative poses and maximum contact with fellow players, and ALICE is still tallying the score up to now?

"Is that a rhetorical question or are you asking for another round... of drinks! DRINKS!"

"Karen, uh, about our relationship? I, uh, hope this doesn't complicate things anymore than they are. Rather, I should apologize for taking advantage of your nice butt when you weren't cognitive enough to enjoy it. I hope to rectify that at some point."
>>

From appearences, Three quarters of Team Three. For anything more specific than that, you may have to ask ALICE, as the last I remember is suggesting that we all have a party...
>>
Little O'Hara finally poked the Purus. I bet if we dig underneath the pile of bodies, we'd find a Yazan. Or an incredibly confused Banana.

“I was hoping you could tell me,” you admit quietly. “I can't remember anything after Char's call to Artesia.”

“Who's also here, I see,” Karen adds.

You nod to yourself, though the motion is a bit painful. It feels like your brain is trying to hammer its way out of your skull through your eyes, and you have to keep your eyelids shut to keep it from escaping.

“Maybe ALICE has visual records?” you suggest.

Karen carefully extricates herself from the pile, stumbling towards a nearby desk terminal.

“ALICE?” she groans. “Do you have anything like that?”

“Affirmative, ma'am,” ALICE replies, wringing her virtual hands nervously. “Would you... like to view them? Visual-only.”

“I would,” Karen growls. “I wanna know how this whole mess played out.”

ALICE's avatar nods. "Retrieving visual playback logs relevant to the night of September 17th and the morning of the 18th."

Did we? Maybe we only had an orgy with the half of the team we always orgy with. For all we know Karen had the orgy with Artesia and the Purus. We just stumbled into it after they had passed out, when we took the Battle Harem back to our room.
>>
>>36890543
You figure that at this point, you could still very well die for whatever happened last night: and you want to know exactly what that was before you do. Make sure that it was worth it.

The first scenes were obviously from the ready room, where all your pilots and officers were gathered. Drinks are poured, singing breaks out. You made good on your promise to play Mario Kart with Diana, and it seems there were constant rotations set up on multiple screens for other games.

More singing. And then, a cake arrives: ice cream, by the look of it, shaped to look like the Assembly building. You hand the knife off to Haman, who shares the duty of cutting and serving the cake with Artesia, both young women shaking the whole time with hysterical laughter.

“Next sequence,” Karen orders.

“These were taken at 01:00 hours,” ALICE explains. It's the inside of the baths, where a slightly more intimate group apparently continued to drink. It seems like fun times, with some splashing and chatting. A game seems to break out, with Karen eventually standing in the water and walking to a figure with their back to the camera.

You eventually realize it's you.

“What...” Karen mutters as her image tackles your image to the wooden flooring, their lips locked in a fierce kiss. You see your arms flailing in surprise: you must not have thought she would do it.

The real Karen rests her head in her hands, and you can feel a sense of dawning realization. “I had to pick dare,” she growls to herself. “Now I remember... what am I doing now?”

Sure enough the scene had changed: your video doppleganger is still on his back, but Karen's image is doing something different to him. Holy shit, is she really doing what you think she is?

Karen touches her hands to her lips in surprise, honestly too stunned for words until the act on screen is nearly over. “Did I really?”

“Apparently,” you offer. “I don't remember any of this.”

MY GOD. It all makes sense now...

It was All Karen. She subconsciously set a trail for Dom to unwittingly follow, and it all led to This moment.
She was a Newtype all along, just no-one realised how subtle she was... not even herself...

“No sense stopping here,” you mutter half to yourself. “ALICE, you can skip ahead.”

“Aye, sir,” the AI agrees, fast-forwarding through quite a long series of increasingly lewd and or silly dares before reaching a segment set in your quarters.

What Karen sees stuns her even further. “Wow,” she mutters. “I... don't even know what to say about that.”

“You look like you're having fun,” you comment. “Whose hand is that, though?”

“Maybe Audrey,” Karen replies. “She has strong fingers like that.”

Finally, after what looks to have been about an hour worth of time-lapse, the critical moment: one of the clones, who you can't quite place the name of due to the poor resolution and lack of color, walks in from the other room in her pajamas.

“Who is that?” you ask ALICE quietly as one of the Puru clones stirs briefly around your leg.

“Cynthia,” ALICE replies after a brief moment where she no doubt compared the image to every image on file for the triplets.

The image of Cynthia seems taken aback, but approaches you with obvious determination. Words are exchanged as you cover yourself. Karen looks first at you, then at Cynthia, then back at you. Then she shrugs, saying something to you that causes the others to give you a little space. Cynthia slowly removes her pajamas: first the tops, followed by the bottoms. She eases closer to you, nervousness and tension suddenly apparent in her body language.

Your likeness waves off the others, who disappear into separate rooms: Haman and Carya into one, and the rest into another. When you and Cynthia are alone, you begin.

“You can fast-forward again,” you tell ALICE. “I want to see how this movie ends.”

From what you can tell from the video evidence you were gentle and tender with Cynthia, for a reasonably long time. And she seems... for lack of a more precise word, she seems blissful. As if she was completely happy and relaxed once the initial nervousness left her.

Finally, after cleaning up at what looks like Mach 5 on the tapes, you're rejoined by a bedraggled-looking Carya and Haman, as well as the rest of those who are currently laying all around you.

“So that's what happened,” you sigh. “Well, Karen?”

“Well what?” she asks.

“What happens from here?”

She shrugs. “Nothing. Nothing happens from here.”

“You... positive about that?” you ask tentatively.

“It seems I started it,” Karen explains. “Well, to be precise Artesia started it, but I agreed to it. And I can tell you weren't lying: you have no memory of any of that either, so it's hard to fault you after the fact.”

You let out a sigh of relief. “I was sure you were gonna kill me.”

Your captain shrugs at you. “Apparently I even enjoyed it. So who knows, maybe I'll send you on another suicide mission as an excuse to cut loose again.”

You give it your best go, but you just can't focus on your mission briefings with that pounding in your head. So instead you have to make due with having Karen grab an extra coffee maker from her quarters next door so you can run two pots at once.

Some signs of life.

Rosse is the next to awaken, seemingly surprised at the situation she finds herself in but grateful for the coffee.

The scent of sweet caffeine causes Audrey to roll out of bed, then stagger towards the table where it's brewing with a mug in hand and a shirt tugged on backwards.

One by one your other teammates follow. The Puru sisters seem outright cheerful, probably because they weren't drinking; though Cynthia blushes and quietly avoids eye contact with you. The sisters have to be drug out of bed by Haman, who barely seems to be alive and kicking herself.

And if what you read in your report is right, you're going to have to get past Titans to return to space tomorrow...

... well, at least you have today to nurse yourself through the hangover of a lifetime.

>>
>>36891178
I'm pretty sure that wasn't going to happen since Cynthia seems to have always been interested in Dom. As far as I can tell she was attracted to him the moment they met.

I wonder what the rest of the crew are going to say about what happened to night. The sheer amount of newtypes involved was insane. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if a few people awakened as newtypes from all the feelings and what not released.

The worst part is we don't have that NT connection. Sure, we engaged her in sex in the missionary position for the sole purpose of procreation, but that was due to alcohol, not of our own volition. It could potentially damage his non-Social Linked friendships permanently.
>>
>>36891348
>The worst part is we don't have that NT connection.
Who says? You were probably one of the first people who Cynthia could have a normal human relationship with, and you won her over surprisingly quickly after meeting her. She's killed for you.

And the video evidence suggests that she asked you first, with full cognitive abilities, and that you treated her properly even if you don't remember it.

So if and when it comes up, you can vote to not do it again, or to wait to do it again until she's older, or whatever. But it's not the end of the world: it's more a case of several ongoing situations coming to a head all at once outside your control (due to the lowest possible roll: a 40 or so, which was the low roll before the nat 1, would have probably allowed you the choice).
