Voiced Intro(Kudos to Voiceanon and Sonlee for this): http://vocaroo.com/i/s1Grk05b6F0v

Your name is Michael Dunkin, and you now work for the Inquisition. Previously you were a sergeant in the 291st Cadian Shock Troopers, but now you find yourself in the company of Inquisitor Christina Massey of the Ordos Xenos. After saving her life at the cost of your men and your life (the old one, at least), you've been officially proclaimed a dead hero and recruited into her retinue. Now, with your new life and future in her hands, you're tasked with looking after Christina's well being. And whatever else that entails.

With the arrival of replacements for Alpha, it gives you an opportunity to see the Gauntlet handled as it was intended to be. Not that you and Vince couldn't handle it. Even so, between you and the Commander even the near fully-strength Alpha couldn't quite make it to the end, leaving it to be tried another day. When the time of the parade arrives you're as ready as can be, so when things inevitably went south you were ready. However, you were not prepared to meet people belonging to your old unit, and the news they brought. Now in the aftermath, you try to figure out your next move.

*NOTICE*
Because of last thread’s absolutely horrible roles I’ve decided to test out a system to get around it. We’ll start out with three Fate Points of sorts, able to let you guys reroll or simply negate a nat 1. Additional Fate Points will be awarded by doing exceedingly well on write-ins, ‘taking a third option’ that works, and similar things. As well, an anon suggested awarding them for fanart and the like, but that doesn't mean I’m forcing any drawfags hand. Just another idea.

After returning to the Antebellum you found the Inquisitor busy keeping control of the situation with the Lord General, which meant your report would wait until tomorrow. Normally this wouldn't be a problem.

However, this gave you time to think.

A night of tossing and turning is filled with you replaying the conversation you’d had with the Cadians in your head. Part of you wants to just mark it up as a pleasant farewell to your career in the Guard, but with your newest line of work you question if they could be connected with the Major in any way. It’s an uncomfortable question, and you don’t really want to know the answer.

Eventually you fall into a restless sleep and morning comes all too early. Preparing for the day, you pull on a set of fatigues and make your way out of your room, stepping into the hall and bumping into the Inquisitor’s Savant, Leo.

“Ah, Lieutenant,” He greets, looking up from the dataslate that nearly had him crashing into you. “Good morning.”

“Good morning… Savant?” You answer hesitantly, having never spoke him often enough to know his preferred title.

“Savant, Leo, Bag of Bones; whatever fits your fancy,” He smiles. “I’m not one to be picky. However, if you’ll excuse me…”

Stepping aside, you allow him to continue on his way when a thought strikes you. It might be prying, but you’re only trying to look out for her.

You shake your head, letting the Savant be. If you were supposed to know someone would have told you.

With that out of the way you ponder what to do. The obvious choice is to check in on the Inquisitor and give your report, but she may still be busy or trying to get some sleep. That leaves the obvious choice of heading to the mess for breakfast.

Or maybe bringing it to her...

Having run low on your personal stock with so many similar visits, you have to settle for Marbo's cooking today. Not that it's as bad as some of the armsmen make it out to be.

With a sizable tray balanced on your shoulder the typical servants that maintain the level only give you passing greetings, having grown used to your antics with the culinary arts. You don't really see anything odd about it.

You give the Inquisitor's door three quick knocks and take a step back. After a few seconds it opens to reveal a curious and then bemused Inquisitor.

"Good morning, Lieutenant," She sighs, rubbing her temples but stepping aside all the same. "The usual spot, if you please."

Clearing away a few loose dataslates and similar items from a corner of her desk, you settle into your typical place as she does the same.

“I hope you don’t mind the change up today,” You say. “I’ve actually started to run low on supplies, so I have to improvise.”

“It’s truly a mystery as to where it all went,” Christina muses dryly, though she smiles as she speaks. “Not that I’m ungrateful, of course.”

“Just trying to help, ma’am,” You offer a shrug. “A good meal goes a long way.”

“I suppose. But don’t go running around on my account looking for food. The only time that’s needed is when the shooting starts. Speaking of which, how’s Alpha looking?”

“Good,” You answer. “Roxy’s got a good head on her shoulders, if she lets herself use it. These new guys should do well.”

“I must admit I’m a little surprised as to just who the two of you picked,” She smiles at your confused expression. “The old Sergeant had an unfortunate habit of favoring one group over others.”

“I can… take a guess as to which one.”

“Indeed. So tell me, how did it feel being back in uniform?” She asks. “I’m sure you had to endure a parade or two in your time.”

“A few,” You admit. “Though usually I was down on the street, hoofing it for two hours straight. At least the weather was usually nice. And my armor was clean. It’s the little things that keep me going.”

“I see,” She chuckles. “So, about this recent parade…”

Your stomach sinks as you begin to replay the speech you’d made in your head. Both versions.

As always you explain things in a way that’s both clear and simple. From the initial meeting with the Colonel, to the ride there, and everything after. Then, when you finally get to it, you explain your meeting and talk with the Cadians.

To your chagrin, Christina goes from curious to clearly disapproving, closing her eyes and letting out a heavy sigh. However, she remains silent as you continue on into the ambush.

Finishing with your attempts to tail Markus you sit back and wait for her to speak.

For a few moments she remains silent, leaning against the desk and steepling her hands in thoughts. Then she opens her eyes and looks at you with a clouded expression.

“When we first met, you and I,” She said. “I made it fairly clear. Your old life is behind you. That includes your brother, your comrades, and anything related to the Guard. I know this is a steep cost, but you accepted it then and I hope our deal stands now. So tell me, Lieutenant. What reasons did you have for conversing with them?”

>Closure ma'am
>>
>>36879663

Despite your initial nervousness the answer comes to you clearly.

"Closure?" You offer.

This takes her by surprise, and you take it as a cue to continue.

"You told me what the reports said, but that can't match what the people I served with actually thought. To hear it from them, and what they knew about my brother... it helped put some demons to rest."

Once more the Inquisitor is quiet as she thinks over your words. However, this time, her confliction is obvious.

Then she looks at you with a tired expression and frowns.

"One time," She says. "I'll allow you this, but no more. You've had your closure. Now you can concentrate on the task at hand, correct?"

"Yes, ma'am," You nod. "Thank you, ma'am."

"Good," She says, standing. "Now let's clean this up and be on our way."

"New business?" You ask, following suit.

"Against my wishes Inquisitor Alexi informs me he's acquired a prisoner for questioning. Seeing as you've met several of the sympathizers, he asks you come along as well."

Christina sounds far from thrilled with this news, but you follow along wordlessly.

It's not a long trip, Alexi awaiting the two of you at a nearby Naval space station. The Inquisitor greets the two of you by himself in the hangar bay.

"Lady," He nods. "Lieutenant. I hope you'll forgive me if I don't shake your hand."

"Noted, sir," You say, giving a small nod.

"Wonderful," Alexi replies, somewhat disappointed by the lack of response. "Follow me, and I'll show you to our guest."

Turning on his heel, the two of you followed. As you exited the hangar and entered a fairly crowded hallway Christina leans over to you.

"Thank you," She whispers.

Rather than responding you merely smile.

Not exactly screaming Inquisition, the three of you are more or less ignored by the various people going about their day. Most are dressed in the typical Navy blue, but some appear as simple passerby's like the three of you.

You’re led to the detention cells on that level, with a number of opened armed armsmen alongside several Arbites guarding the various doors. Seemingly at random Alexi stops at one and speaks briefly with the guards before turning to both of you.

“After a bit of snooping on various establishments funded by the Brice company, my agents managed to catch a man that frequented them alone,” He explains, turning to you. “You were with them for a time. Do you recognize him?”

Nodding to the guards, one of them taps away at a nearby terminal. Moments later, an image appears above it showing the inside of the cell where a man sits behind a table, slumped back into his chair.

To your surprise it’s Vonas, albeit a more battered and bloodied version than when you last saw him. You can only wonder if Markus knows about this.

“He has a distinct way about him,” Alexi noted. “Rather resilient, as well. Is he one of your friends?”

Raising a brow, Alexi looks from you to Christina, who tries to hide her smirk.

"I'm glad to hear it," He says. "I think. So I take it he's an important cog in their machine?"

"Maybe," You shrug. "We've met, but our work it similar. He could also be like me. A grunt running around, doing the dirty work."

"There in lies the current problem," Alexi sighs. "Should he prove valuable I can simply reach in and take what information he might hold. However, the experience is not pleasant for anyone involved. I want some sort of assurance my time and effort will not go to waste. Since you know the man perhaps you can talk some sense into him peacefully."

"I've never known you to pass up an interrogation, Alex," Christina notes, curious.

"Should the Lieutenant wish, I can accompany him inside," Alexi shrugged innocently. "Or he could take you. No matter the choice I think only two should go in, less we make him too nervous to speak. What shall it be, Lieutenant?"

"He's gonna be on edge as-is," You say. "I'll do this alone."

"Very well,” Alexi nods. “Do you have any particular ideas in mind?”

You pause and stop to think. You’ve never done this sort of thing before, but you’ve read and watched enough bad Arbite cliches to understand the basics. Stepping in is going to be enough to shock him, so what after that?

You contemplate your options.

Ya'know, I've read that trying to build up rapport with the guy is better than trying fear tactics and forcing them to comply.

Let's pose as standard Arbites. First sign of Inquisition and that guy will turtle up. Let's bring him something to drink to, and make a joke about being on the other side this time, though we're not enjoying the position.

Go in soft and slow, don't let him know anything and make it seem like things aren't as big as they are, ask Alexi if he knows anything so we could make it look like just a regular arrest/interrogation and use that to start with, make him think things are pretty small and not very serious, then probe for info and ramp things up and have Chrissy walk in when appropriate

Do we admit our duplicity as a show of trust or try a double cross like in >>36882656 ?
>>
>>36883325
are we actually in a uniform?

if so we can play it off as moonlighting for some extra cash, make him think he has some leverage and play it against him maybe
>>
>>36883362
Wait, how much does he know about us? (by which I mean our fake rebel persona).
Does he "know" we are in with the rebels or does he think we are just a gun for hire?

In either situation it would be hard to explain our now being with the fuzz, let alone the inquisition.
Do we admit to being an authority who was pretending to be a rebel/criminal, or do we pretend to be a rebel/criminal pretending to be an officer of the law?

Keep in mind if he realizes we are an inquisitor we will have to kill him- can't risk that info getting out, it could ruin the whole operation.

"Does he even know why he's here?" You ask, watching the screen.

"He knows he's in trouble, else he wouldn't be here," Alexi replies. "How much trouble, though, I've left for him to ponder over. If you're looking for an excuse, we could probably tag him with recent ganger activity."

"I suppose I can work with that," You say. "Well, wish me luck."

Gathering your thoughts, you nod to the guard and with a flip of a switch the door slides open. Stepping inside, Vonas glances up and immediately tenses. He stares at you for several seconds before standing, and you see that his hands have been bound.

"You..." He says, a mixture of surprise and betrayal in his tone and face.

"Have a seat," You tell him, reaching to your pouch. "Have they fed or watered you, yet?"

He only continues to stare in surprise, hesitantly sitting back down. From your belt you show off your canteen. Unscrewing the top, you offer it to the man only to be met with silence.

Rolling your eyes you take a swig from it before sliding it over to him. Once you retract your hand he slowly takes the canteen in both of his, taking a cautious sip, brow furrowing as he sits it down.

"Ya got some explainin' to do, brotha," Vonas says.

"That's my line, friend," You chuckle. "You're in a bit of trouble, and I'm here to help."

"Oh, yeah," Vonas snorts. "Right bang on, there. All the people on this world and you decide to pick poor Vonas?"

"Wasn't too long ago you took me on a ride," You say. "Irony's a bitch, but believe me, I'm not ecstatic about this either."

He says nothing, though his thoughts are obviously racing.

"Yeah, this isn't a good spot to be in," You admit. "But you got options."

"Do you remember when we first met?" You ask. "I could have killed both of you. I honestly thought about it. Did I?"

He remains silent.

"I'm not the bad guy here. Far from it."

"Neither are we," Vonas answers, distraught. "But I can't make ya understand, seen? It's not like you think. It's muddier than that."

>"Then explain it to me. Make me understand."

"I want to, brotha, believe me," Vonas answers. "But I can't."

"Why not?"

He looks away for a long moment, shaking his head. Then, head still bowed, he begins to softly whistle. It's an odd reaction, but after a moment...

You know the tune. You think.

The tune hits you like a brick wall, and you know the words to it in an instant. You've only heard it a few times before, and in less favorable conditions, but it's a song that remains with you. Mainly because you have history with it.

'...see that great host of men, who march with faces drawn...'

A fool's army, made up of brave but foolish men.

'...they come with vengeance in their eyes...'

A rallying cry that ended in disaster and heartbreak. But why would someone like Vonas know it, let alone use it as some-

Syrene.

The planet Syrene; a name that brings back unpleasant memories and feelings. You look at the man, uncertain, but he only smiles and continues to whistle merrily, nodding. If he's being truthful, then he just made this whole thing much worse.

>>

"What are you getting at?" You ask, still unsure of yourself.

"Not a thing, my brotha," Vonas answers, smiling. "Not a thing."

"Why do you know that tune?" You ask, lowering your voice. "Were you there? What did you do?"

"I've not told you a word, and that's as it will be," Vonas replied simply. "Kill me, torture me, I have nothing to say that will help you."

Clenching your fists beneath the table, you look the man over. Is he trying to help you without admitting anything? Or simply trying to throw you off? You don't know for certain, and it's driving you mad.

However, a buzz from the door grabs your attention, and with hesitation you rise from your seat.

"Thank you for your time," You tell him, exiting the cell to find both Inquisitors waiting anxiously.

"You know something," Alexi accuses more than asks you.

"Perhaps," Christina allows, not liking his tone but equally curious. "It didn't look like much from him, but I get the feeling you yourself know something."

Syrene... a world of rebels and traitors. Things had changed so rapidly it had been only a distant memory, one place among the jumble of memories you've revisited but lost the name to. It was a planet tricky to describe, known as much for its efforts fighting for the Imperium as it did fighting it. Rebellions were near commonplace, and it was a wonder nothing long-term was done to stop it.

You had taken part in one of the most recent rebellions before your change in job descriptions. In that theater lay several of your less pleasant memories, the most prominent being the music played by the rebels during battle or protest. You also know the rebels were known to use whatever means they could to hinder the enemy. Otherwise known as you and your comrades in the 291st.

"I think he tried giving me something to work with without outright saying it," You say. "I think he's telling me Syrene is involved."

Christina seems confused for a moment, but Alexi scowls.

"I was afraid of that," He sighs, catching Christina's look. "Rather than dealing with a band of rebels, we get to deal with a whole planets worth."

"Lovely. Where is this Syrene located?" Christina asks.

"A few jumps west of here, deeper into Imperial Space," You answer, shocking both Inquisitors. You shrug. "I've spent half my life fighting in and around this sector. You pick up local lore pretty quick."

"Hmm," is all Alexi says, pleasantly surprised. "I've visited the planet in the past to quell several uprising before they started. I'll send you what notes I have."

"And I'll put them to good use," Christina answers. "So, what happens to our guest?"

"I leave it to the Lieutenant to judge," Alexi answers, turning to you. "Do you think he knows anything else of use?"

You know he and Markus are one of the front runners for the Major's dirty work, but it was Markus you've spent more time with. Even then, you can't really judge how deeply involved either man is.

"Very well, then," Alexi nods. "I'll see what I can do. You did good, Lieutenant. A bit too calm for my tastes, but I suppose there's more than one way to skin a grox. We'll talk later, Christina?"

"Of course," She answers."For the moment, though, I believe we're done here."

Bidding the Inquisitor farewell, you both begin making your way back to the hangar bay. As you walk, Christina gives you a playful nudge.

"I admit I'm shocked you didn't try for the 'loud and scary' approach," She muses. "If you tried, I think you'd fit the bill rather well."

"I'll leave the scary routine to you, ma'am," You chuckle.

"I'm scary?" She asks, feigning hurt. "No one ever told me."

"When you need to be."

"And the other times?"

"Pleasantly sarcastic."

Her only response it to laugh, and as you arrive back you ponder your next move, having some free time ahead of you. It'd be nice to finally get the Inquisitor out of the officer, but there's always work to be done. Of course, it's not demanded of you...

As is the norm for the two of you, another step in the operation means a new mountain of paperwork. Having been unable to dissuade you, Christina simply smiles at your offer and signals for you to follow.

True to his word, Alexi sends his 'notes' shortly after you return. Said notes are several novel-length reports on various people and events

Looking over several of these that you recognize, you decide now is a good time to come clean.

"Ma'am?" You ask. "I... have something to admit."

Expecting something off the wall, she waits patiently with a smirk.

"I know more about Syrene than most people," You say, shuffling dataslates anxiously. "I can tell you about the weather, the cities, especially the people... I went there once, back when I was still in the 291st. It wasn’t a pleasure trip.”

You’re not sure what to make of her lack of obvious surprise. She must have heard your thoughts, because she smiles and shakes her head.

“You said it yourself, Lieutenant. You’ve picked up plenty of the local flavor in your time. It’s a good quality to possess. And I’ll forgive you for keeping this fact to yourself until it was only us.”

“Ma’am, I only-”

“-did what I thought was best,” She quotes, making you flush slightly from her ‘accent’ of you. “I know, I know. Nothing to apologize for.”

With that awkward bit of business out of the way the evening goes by pleasantly. Good progress and good company leaves you both in high spirits, and though you hate to go subpar again you offer to go get dinner for the two of them. Grateful but unamused, Christina waves you out the door as her vox chirps.

You close the door behind you, but pause…

By now you've learned to take what you're told and nothing more. Making your way down to the mess, you gather up a meal for two. Being for the Inquisitor, there's almost no wait as you're sent along your way once more.

However, as you return, you're not even halfway down the hall when you hear the shouting.

"...told you, and told, and told you!" Oh, she doesn't sound happy.

"Christy, there's no way-" Leo? Poor man.

"And now look!"

Part of you feels like you should go in and try to help, but another part of you values life.

Despite your instincts suggesting otherwise you open the door to find Christina in the old Savant's face, looking none too happy.

However when you enter she appears to forcefully calm herself. To limited success.

"What's wrong?" You ask, looking just a little absurd with a tray of food on your shoulder. You set it aside as her Savant picks up the ball.

"Oh, just the usual," Leo offers, not at all intimidated by the angry Inquisitor. "A bit of an ornery spell, nothing-"

"It's alright, Leo," She sighs, pressing a hand to her face. "He can know. He has to know."

Shrugging, the Savant hovers over to the tray you set down and begins to pick at the offerings. Christina pays him no mind as she faces you.

"I just received a call," She explains. "An individual has informed me he possesses 'evidence' that he believes will corrupt my image as Delmar's assistant and the Captain himself, when in truth it could do the exact same to my image as an Inquisitor."

As she speaks she slowly calms, going from furious to simple anger.

"In return for this he's demanded an extortionate sum and given me a few hours to gather it. Delmar will no doubt see it done in a few minutes. I need your help seeing that this man and his friends either don't see tomorrow, or do so within the brig of the Antebellum," She swallows hard, looking to you with a pleading expression. "Can you do this for me, Michael?"

"Of course, ma'am," You say, almost hurt she'd even have to ask.

All the same, her smile of relief is enough to waylay your worries.

"Thank you," She says, taking your hand and squeezing. "Now go get your gear. You'll be needing it."

"Aye, aye, ma'am."

With that you head back to your room, strapping on your gear. It's a good feeling, getting back into your own armor rather than a disguise, no matter what disguise it was.

"I heard you're all going out," Jeeves notes as you seal your helmet. "Do be careful. All of you. Lady Massey can be quick to act when angered."

"We'll be fine," You assure him. "I just fill sorry for the bastards we're going after."

A short time later you arrive in Delmar's hangar to find the man himself waiting, flanked on either side by Mikel and Vincent, both men equipped similarly to you. Both men look something fierce, and even the Captain's golden robes can't brighten his expression. However, where as the others look angry, he seems anxious. Perhaps even worried.

Like before you all split off to various passenger rooms, and you pause before choosing one.

You remember Army of Darkness, the comedy-horror classic staring the best b-list horror actor Bruce Cambell as S-Mart employee Ash William? Well there is a comic series of Ash's adventures after the events in Army of Darkness. As always, these are in .cbr you can either get a reader for them or just unzip them and view each image individually.

By now in full bodyguard mode you stick close to Christina. However, as you take a seat and the transport takes off your unease that comes from going into an op blinds surfaces.

"Ma'am?" You ask. "Any ideas on who this guy is?"

"He sounds like your typical mercenary scum," She answers. "I can guess he'll have at least a dozen men on station, which could make things messy. He ordered us to meet them in a warehouse in the mid-hive, with just myself and the Captain in attendance. The rest of you will come in as the meeting goes down, eliminating any sentries and springing the trap on the phrase 'a pleasure doing business with you.' I made a persuading case of not being much of a threat, so they won’t be expecting an Inquisitional Hit Team.”

"Sounds simple enough."

"You can kill them all except the leader," Christina orders, a dangerous look in her eye. "I have questions for him."

“Understood, ma’am.”

Though you know it doesn't take long, the trip down feels like it lasts for ages. When it finally sets down you’re all too happy to get up and get moving. Inside the private hangar you land in there are a pair of civilian vehicles waiting for you. You go to follow, but Christina stops you.

“The Captain will be plenty protection,” She assures you. “You’ll be watching over us with Vincent and Mikel.”

Although you’re not happy about it you comply, pulling yourself into Vincent’s car. In a heavily modified scout variant carapace, Vincent makes quite the sight. Sitting in the back, making the vehicle noticeably tilt, Mikel sits as a mass of armor. You’re thankful for the heavy tinting of the windows, as well as the darkness that had fallen over the city.

“Well, Mike,” Vincent say, waiting for Christina to leave before following a ways behind. “We’re in the shit now.”

"For once, yeah, and I don't like it," Vincent admits. "This is too much, even for her. Just go in and kill everyone? I mean, normally this is fine, but this time... this time is different. Too much at stake for her to go off the handle."

"You have an alternative?" You ask.

In typical Vincent fashion he tilts his head side to side, a smirk appearing on his face.

"I may or may not have tagged the case ole Del's carrying," He explains. "We sit things out, let the deal go down, and in case they don't show up with the goods we follow it and see where it leads. Of course, we could be dealin' with a couple'a rookies and they have it all on hand. That's the problem here. Too little know, too much do. And Christy's got murder in her eyes."

"Must be important," You note.

"It's the smart thing to do," You admit. "But for right now let's hold off. Play it by ear."

"Fair enough," Vincent says.

By then the hour's grown late and the traffic has slowed to only a handful of souls hurrying home. Tailing Delmar, Vincent stops as the Captain does, albeit several blocks apart. Pulling into an alleyway, Vincent kills the engine as the three of you pile out.

"If you boys can hold down the fort on the ground I'll cover you on the rooftops," Vincent says, spying an emergency exit deeper into the alley. "Bound to be a few heads poking out."

>"Put that rifle to good use."
>"I'll do it. You and Father Mikel watch on the ground."
>"I think it'd be best if we stayed together on this one."

"Put that rifle to good use," You tell him.

"If I need to, count on it," Vincent chuckles, and with a flutter of a camo cloak he vanishes into the darkness.

"I believe that's our cue," Mikel rumbles.

As you and the Father begin to advance bit by bit, you listen to Christina's radio chatter, letting them listen in on what's going on.

"-haps not the best idea, my lady," Delmar ponders nervously as a car door slams.

"It's the one we have, Captain," Christina replies. "Now, look petrified and everything should go fine."

You and Mikel continue up the street, leaving only a block and a half to go.

"Hold it!" Vincent says, and both of you freeze. "They've got a guy watching the stretch you're on. Don't think he's spotted you yet, but I'd suck it in, Mik."

Not commenting, you and the Father get small as you wait for further word. Meanwhile, things continue inside.

"Miss Berg," A man greets. "My, you're a sight to see."

"W-we've got your money," Christina mutters.

"Good, good!"

"You appear to be missing something, however," Delmar notes.

"What? Nah. You think I'm a fuckin' idiot? You'll get what you want when I get what I want. Is that what I think it is?"

"It is."

"Mike," Vincent radios. "You guys aren't gonna be able to get any closer unless I take this guy or you take the long way around. Make the call."

"We'll go around," You say, and with a signal to Father Mikel you duck into a nearby alleyway. It's a bit of a lengthy detour, but it's better than giving away their position.

Having gone nearly half a block to the right, you peek around a corner to hear radio chatter that sounds oddly familiar. Killing your vox, you hear the faint sound of the conversation going on inside. Down the alleyway, a transport truck sits with its driver door open, said driver leaned against the side with a Lho Stick glowing between their teeth.

"Vinny?" You radio. "I think we may have just found our target."

"What do you mean, Mike?"

"Cargo truck. Bad guy. Radio voicing the same music as ours."

"...you hear that, Christy?"

"How soon will we have our end of the bargain?" Delmar asks calmly.

"I'll make a call to my other boys."

"They'll... they'll get it and come right here?" Christina asks, hopeful.

"Right here," The man assures.

"No delay?"

"No delay."

"You heard her," Vincent. "Lock it down, then close in for the finale. I'll start making my way as well."

You took the liberty of borrowing a dampener from Cachino's armory, so using your hellgun isn't completely out of the question. However, you're not sure how many men are around, so your knife is enough option. Father Mikel hefts his shotgun, waiting to follow your lead.

Tapping your knife's sheath, Mikel simply nods as he put away his shotgun. Withdrawing your lucky knife, you begin to sneak up on the driver.

You close on the man one gentle step after the other, you taking the left side of the truck while Mikel takes the right. Shockingly the Father seems to make better speed than you as you hear the passenger door fly open.

The man outside goes to turn to look inside and you close the distance as he reaches for a sidearm, burying your knife into his neck and twisting, cradling the corpse to the ground as it spasms briefly.

You look up to see the passenger yanked from his seat, and a brief struggle goes silent with a sickening crunch from the other side.

Unaffected except for a bloody boot, Mikel appears from around the front of the truck with shotgun back in hand.

"Sentries are dead," Vincent radios. "All four."

Meanwhile, the situation in the warehouse takes a turn.

"Perhaps we could work out a more profitable deal-" Delmar offers.

"Enough chit chat. Hand over the thrones or I'll just take them," the man growls. "This ain't a negotiation."

"Push it up quick," Vincent suggests. "We'll deal with Mr. Jackass and loop back for the truck."

"Roger," You answer, booking it for the warehouse.

Not wanting to keep the Lady waiting, you and Mikel take off down the street at a full on sprint. Ahead, you spot Delmar's car parked out front of a dimly lit warehouse. The men on either sides of the double door entry lay crumpled, a sizable hole in each of their heads. The door itself is parted ever so slightly, allowing a bit of light to pour out.

"I'm up top, counting eight shithead including our guy," Vincent announces. "Bald, tattoos, center of the group. Watch your shots, you two."

Stacking up at the door with you reach into your pouch.

"Preparing flash, watch your eyes," You warn.

"Enough!" Christina begs. "Captain, just give them what they want!"

"Get off me, woman," Delmar growls with a shocking amount of heat. "You've cost me enough as it is. You want it done? Fine! Take your damned money."

"See? Not so bad, was it?"

"Yes, yes it was," Delmar grumbles. "Not that I do not know my courtesies. Good day, gentlemen. It was a pleasure doing business with you."

You prime the flash bang and toss it inside. Shoving open the door, you find Delmar and Christina on the ground with the men staggering from the flash.

Beside you Mikel's shotgun roars and a chunk of one of the mercenaries explodes, sending him flying. You take down one with a headshot and manage to send another down with two to the chest. A third one gets clipped in the side before diving for cover, but before he can fire a shot from the shattering glass above kills him.

"Double-crossing bi-" The leader shouts before a slug to the stomach from Delmar's revolver sends him down.

Another man takes cover behind a nearby crate, but Mikel grabs it and begins pushing it backwards, sending the man scrambling to keep his footing before coming to a stop between the crate and wall with a crunch.

One of the last remaining men goes to open fire on the exposed Father, but another sniper round kills him.

The last man, and probably the smartest, throws down his rifle and raises his arms.

"I'm done!" He shouts. "I quit! Ta-"

A shot to the head from the Inquisitor silences him.

In the span of fifteen seconds all but one of the mercenaries are dead. The man in question writhes on the ground in pain, clutching at his stomach.

"There's no blood," You note.

"Non-lethal slug," Delmar explains, holstering his sidearm. "Delmar prefers to keep his killing to his hunts and leave his younger days behind."

"Looks like it hurt."

"A broken rib or so. Non-lethal, but not painless."

Mikel and Vincent vanish to recover the truck as you, Delmar, and Christina inspect the mercenary and his men.

"Not exactly amateurs," Christina muses. "But far from experts."

"God damned-" The man mutters, receiving a swift kick from her in response. Forcing him onto his back, she places a foot on his chest and pushes down.

"Oh, does that hurt?" She asks, tilting her head to the side. "How about this?"

The man lets out another pained cry.

>Let the bastard suffer.

"Ma'am!" You say, gently but firmly grabbing her shoulder. "Enough."

Looking back at you it's clear she has other ideas, but relents all the same. Shortly afterwards Mikel and Vincent return, backing up the cargo truck into the light of the warehouse. Delmar suggests looking for a crowbar or something similar, but a quick smack from the butt of the Father's shotgun does the trick just as well for the lock.

The wickedness that had found its way into Christina vanishes as Mikel pulled a door open, allowing her inside.

Curious alongside the others, you peer inside and can only look on in shock.

She's in worse condition than you'd last seen her, clothes tattered and hair a mess. However, when Christina kneels in-front of her, her eyes light up.

"Mom!" Naomi sobs, throwing her arms around the Inquisitors neck.

"Shhh," Christina answers, embracing her in a tight hug, sounding on the verge of tears herself. "It's alright now, love. I'm here. It's alright..."
