>CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

It's Christmas!

Nee-chan says Christmas isn't for another two days, but you know that Christmas lasts all of December. And Christmas is definitely your favorite time of the year. Christmas means there's snow everywhere, and candy everywhere, and decorations everywhere, everybody is smiling and cheering, and at the end of Christmas you even get presents for being a good girl. And you've definitely been a good girl!

But even though you're so close to completing your ninth year in a row of being a good girl, there's no way you can rest easy just yet. An important part of your Christmas Cheer is missing. Nee-chan isn't happy!

Nee-chan is the name you gave your sister. It's Japanese, just like her mom but not your mom and that's why you gave it to her. At first she said it was stupid and that you should stop calling her that but you can tell that she actually loves it even though she says she doesn't!

You're not sure why Nee-chan isn't happy, she's unhappy a lot. Sometimes she has trouble with your parents, sometimes she has trouble with school, sometimes with friends, or boyfriends, or girlfriends. It must be really hard being fifteen years old, because she always seems to have trouble with something. You're glad you're only nine because that means you can be a good girl and help cheer up your sister!

But how are you going to do that?
>>
>>36876217
Your name is Nina, you're nine years old, definitely a good girl, and you love your Nee-chan very much! Right now you're sitting on your bed wearing your PJs with a candy cane in front of you that Nee-chan tossed to you when she came in the room. She said dad asked her to give it to you but you know she actually snuck it off the Christmas tree. They'd never let you have candy just before bed!

Nee-chan is still fully clothed, lying on her bed across from yours. She's using the trick where she pretends to be reading a book but actually she's hiding a magazine on the inside. You know because she taught you that trick when you started going to school and then you taught your classmates but they weren't good at it and now the teacher always checks if anyone is cheating. You're not sure why she's even trying to hide that from you. She knows you'd never tell on her!

But what's important right now is that you decide on a plan to cheer up Nee-chan. You have candy, so you could share that with her. You don't think the problem she's having will go away just with some candy, but it might be a good start!

What you don't have is a Christmas present for her. Mom and dad are giving her one with your name on it, but you wanted to give her one that's actually from you. You know what you want to give her and you tried your best to save for it but you still don't have enough money. Maybe you could try to find something else she would like that you can afford. You'd have to start by trying to get her to talk about things she'd like though!

Sometimes she's also been cheered up just by telling you about her troubles. Maybe if you cuddled up to her she might want to talk about it?

>Sneak into her bed and cuddle her

Nee-chan loves a good cuddle, but she would never admit that! You'll have to make sure she doesn't have a chance to push you away before she realises she likes it. To do that, you'll have to be sneaky! Nee-chan is very good at finding you normally, but she's reading right now so it shouldn't be too hard!

>About Christmas Cheer and Christmas Dice

For the duration of the Christmas Special, dicerolling will be conducted differently. Any time dice are rolled, I will ask you to roll Xd6 each, with X being your current level of Christmas Cheer. The result of your roll is the highest number of identical rolls in your set. So if for example you rolled [4,4,3,2,5,6] your result would be 2 because you rolled 2 4s.

Additionally, if the largest number of identical rolls is made up of 1s, for example [1,1,1,3,5,4], the roll is considered a critical failure. If the largest number of identical rolls is made up of 6s, for example [5,6,3,6,6,2], the roll is considered a critical success. Yes, that's a 1/6 chance of crit fail and 1/6 chance of crit success. Don't worry too much about that though, it's meant to be fun, not serious.

To beat a check, your best roll must surpass an opposed roll using a number of dice determined by the difficulty of the action. Yes, everything that involves rolling dice has an opposed roll even if nothing is actively working against you because the fates are just fickle like that!

Your Christmas Cheer naturally increases with cheerful actions and events, while the opposite decreases Christmas Cheer. The more cheerful you are, the more succesful you are!
>>
Rolled 1, 6, 3, 1, 6, 4, 4, 3, 6, 2 = 36 (10d6)

>>36876506
This is some complicated stuff!
>>
Rolled 3, 1, 1, 1, 5, 5, 1, 4, 1, 2 = 24 (10d6)

>>36876530
Five 1s, critical failure.

Five is the highest so it applies. Critical failure incoming!
>>
>>36876559
Well >>36876551 technically has more 2s than >>36876530 has 1s, s-so being 4th roll isn't a problem right? Right?
>>
Rolled 5, 3, 1, 5 = 14 (4d6)

Oh, and don't worry if it's confusing, I made this up just a few hours ago because I thought it might be fun, so having fun with the dice is exactly what I intend to do.
>>
>>36876585
And I forgot to take dice off. Ignore those.

The trick to sneaking is to not be seen or heard. If you go really slowly, you won't make any noise. Carefully you get up on all four and crawl your way to the end of your bed. You're super quiet and Nee-chan hasn't noticed a thing yet. You're the best!

Next, you have to get off the bed. First, put your right foot on the ground. Easy! Next, slip on the candy cane still lying in your bed with your left foo- no wait that's not part of the plan at all!

Your vision fills with the pink of the carpet in your room and your ears filled with the loud THUMP of your face connecting with the floor, as well as the rest of your body following shortly after. You feel a throbbing in your forehead too. It hurts, but you don't think you're going to cry.

A moment later, a pair of hands are gripping your sides firmly, lifting you off the ground, and the pink carpet previously filling your vision is replaced with the beige of Nee-chans shirt, the hard and firm feeling of the floor replaced by her soft and warm chest.

"Nina, are you okay? What happened, how did you fall?"

Her voice is full of worry, but not the same kind of worry that she's been troubled by lately. This isn't an angry kind of worry, it's a sad kind of worry. The kind of worry that sometimes makes Nee-chan cry. You're not sure you want to tell her how you just managed to hurt yourself, it's pretty embarrassing!

This isn't as bad as it seems, you just have to play this right! You sniffle slightly, though not intentionally.

"Promise I can stay in your bed?"

She lets out a deep sigh, her breath warming the top of your head.

"Again? You're nine, aren't you going to get tired of that? Fi-ine, you can stay, but only tonight!"

Score! You instinctively let out a giggle, completely forgetting that she's supposed to think you're hurting. You quickly push away from her, grabbing her by the hand and dragging the both of you to her bed. In a single jump, far more elegantly than before, you land yourself on the left side of her bed and pull her arm until she gives up and settles in beside you.

The next few moments are spent wrapping your arm around her waist, finding that one position that's just right, making full use of your soft and warm Nee-chan pillow. Sensing that you have finally stopping shifting about, she raises the question once more.

"So what were you doing, anyway?"

You smile to nobody but yourself, seeing as your face is currently buried in her side.

"I was trying to sneak into your bed, of course!"

She sighs again, almost deeply enough to threaten your comfy position. "Idiot."

Reluctantly you separate your face from her side just enough to be able to talk properly. Remember, you're doing this because you want to make her happy, not because she's comfy. Well, maybe a little of both.

"Hey Nee-chan, what do you want for Chr-mphhh?"

Your voice is abruptly cut off as a hand grips the back of your head, pushing your face back into the side of Nee-chan hard enough to cut off both your speech and your breath!

"I already told you that you don't have to get me anything. Your parents will take care of that, and you don't even have any money anyway!"

Your parents? They're hers too, at least half of them! If she won't even call your father 'dad' anymore, maybe she's mad at them again?
You struggle, flailing with all limbs until your head is finally freed from her iron grip. A moment of catching your breath and mourning the loss of your comfy arrangement later, you protest the sentiment.

"But I want to give you something that's really from me!"

For the longest while, she says nothing, just staring at you. She doesn't look angry at you, but you still feel a little scared by her intense look.

"Let's just sleep, okay?"

>Find your comfy position and go to sleep?

No, you can't just let this go! She needs the perfect present and you're going to give it to her, no matter what it takes.

"Nee-chan, why don't you want a present? Everybody likes presents!"

You can clearly tell her voice shifting now, the sympathy you earned earlier quickly being eaten by the annoyance you're causing her.

"Just stop it, Nina. Go to sleep."

Nee-chan is pretty scary when she's angry. If you're not careful she might give you the mean glare, or yell at you, or even... tickle you! But you need to be brave, for Nee-chan.

"No! Tell me!"

She sits back up, the sudden movement almost throwing you out of the small bed. You shudder, fearing what may come next.

But nothing comes, Nee-chan simply staring blankly at your empty bed, seemingly lost in thought.

"Nee-chan?"

Succesfully catching her attention, she lies back down on her side, away from you.

"I don't deserve one."

Nee-chan loves you a lot, but she doesn't love herself at all. She's so stupid that way!

This is bad. You haven't made Nee-chan happy at all, you've made her even more unhappy! You'll have to fix this, and you only have one idea left. You wrap your arms as far around her chest as you can, pressing into her with every ounce of your strength. Anything less might not hug all the sadness away!

At first she tenses up at the feeling of you gripping around her so tightly, but a few seconds later she seems to just let go, relaxing her entire body. You hear quiet sobbing, signalling that you can safely relax your own grip as well. She responds immediately, turning around to face you. The tears rolling down her cheeks combined with her soft smile would confuse if you hadn't seen it so many times before.

She grabs you with both hands, dragging you up from her waist to rest your head against her chest, holding you even more tightly than you held her. This close up you clearly feel the apple scent of her hair, her warm breath, and her soft sobbing. It makes you feel so safe and comfortable, even though you're the one trying to comfort her.

You're not sure how long she continues, her embrace sending your mind quickly drifting towards the land of dreams. You're barely conscious when you hear her whisper to you.

"I love you so much."

You try to answer, but you're not sure you managed more than a mumble.

When you wake again, you're lying alone in Nee-chans bed, tucked in under her blanket.

>You only have one day left until Christmas. You need to get out and find a present for her!

And now I have an additional question for you guys!

I'd like to take a break now (my current schedule is forcing me to cram a lot of extra sleep into the weekends, unfortunately) and continue this thread tomorrow, but I want to know what fits you guys best. Continuing in the morning, around 1000 UTC, or evening/late afternoon as usual around 1600-1700 UTC?
