So, let's see, news.

First, sorry about missing Tuesday. Not really sure what's going around- feels like a flu without the puking, which is nice, but it's been lingering too long, I've been sick since Sunday. I'm mostly over it by now, good enough to run a thread, anyway, hahaha. I've got no plans to make Thursday our regular day, last two weeks notwithstanding.

Work schedule for next week is predictably jacked up, so do you guys want a Monday thread or a Wednesday thread? I think I can do Friday if the other two don't work, but I'd rather not run Christmas day, if that's all the same to everyone else involved.

“So” You ask to no one in particular, looking around the blacked-out interior of the transport aircraft. “Can anyone explain to me why, again, we're going to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?”

To be fair, you're not entirely sure about funny-looking aircraft, with it's turbofans perched atop it's wings and it's short, squat body. As it turns out, the special operations community pulled one of the two failed AMST competitors out of the boneyard, had it refurbished with several new technologies- some of them tested in and on the wyvern, you were told- and have been using it for ops like this where a C-130 just can't cut it.

Still, this is one of it's first dozen missions, and a lot can go wrong, especially with new equipment like this. Then again, new equipment is only part of your worry. The other part, the part really eating at your mind, is sitting behind you, her legs stretched to either side of your hips, happily chatting away with her team. At least, you think, she's not sharpening that fucking hatchet of hers anymore.

1/3
>>
The problem, and one you'd all identified early, was the need to jump in. Being a fighter crew, and not special forces, neither you nor Merlin was qualified to do so, and you lacked the time to learn. The simple, and most expedient solution had been a tandem jump- you'd simply be harnessed to one of the witches, who would control the jump and parachute. The concept alone was nerve wracking, especially as you did the math for yourself, plus your flight gear, plus a witch and her combat gear and her strikers- you'd be coming down pretty hard, you figured, and a bad landing would probably kill you.

Brigitte had laughed- a bad landing would probably kill you regardless- not a lot of room for mistakes on the mountain LZ they'd selected. She also pointed out you'd be jumping in with her, and the huge viking of a witch, Henrika, she'd be jumping with Merlin. Nothing to worry about, unless you were worried about being that close to maman.

The last was said as a challenge, though you'd laughed, trying to make light of your nervousness.

The other witches had been giving her nonstop shit since meeting you, almost a week before, now- they'd been leaving you alone, except to hint at wanting to know more about the real nature of you and Brigitte's relationship. Brigitte had made it clear, though, in her way, that she'd prefer if you'd left that to her.

In hindsight, you almost wish you hadn't.

Hooray for best time!

I've unfortunately not been able to sit down and shitscribble much, lately.
>>
“No such thing, flyboy.” One of the witches- melody, you think it is, though you're not sure- you're having trouble telling over the noise of the jets. “Every aircraft has a dash ten line.”

“O-ours is blank.” Merlin states. “N-No known faults.”

“If anybody be able ta do dat, I believe it be you.” Brigitte says, from behind you. “But dis plane ain't bein yours no, it have known faults.”

“All the more reason to be getting out of it.” Katie agrees.

You're about to respond when the cockpit door opens up and the loadmaster steps back into the cargo bay, closing it behind him and pulling on a pair of clean flight gloves. He holds up both hands, fingers splayed apart- ten minutes. No more warning is necessary- the witches begin shuffling around- you and Brigitte will be last out, following Henrika and Merlin. With your combined weights, you'll fall faster, but you've been assured that, with the strikers, the landing won't be an issue at all.

“You ready for dis, Baron?” Brigitte asks, leaning forward to keep it quiet, breathing it practically in your ear.

I've been meaning to ask this last week, but the schedule changes have been throwing me off.

Shouldn't the Soviets be running out of AKs, and and start breaking out the SKSs, Mosins, SVTs, and lever nuggets? I'm under the impression that those were cosmolined and stockpiled to arm the extreme rear line when the war demands start to eat into the supplies of AKs. This is not terribly important for guarding high value VIP projects, but I want to throw this out anyways.
>>
>>36842326
I imagine the AKs is cheap enough to be stay produced but now with even lower quality.
I can see soviet raise militias and partisan armed with SKS and Nuggets tho.
>>
>>36842326
They made Aks by the shitton anon, Maybe their running out of 74s but I'm sure there are plenty of 47s laying around. Also the Fighting is still in Poland so their not in the rearlines yet to break out the WW2 stuff.
>>
>>36842326
>Implying they're anywhere near running out of AKs
>>
>>36842326
I doubt it, they made a shitload of AKs but I wouldn't be shocked if SKSs started popping up in increasing numbers as NATO pushes deeper into Russia.
>>
>>36842326
They will only break out that stuff if they need to impress the citizenry of a city to defend it. They have more than enough AKs of various kinds to supply the Red Army indefinitely, as well as their production.
>>
>>36842500
Will make logistics a bitch though considering I think Russia stopped production of the Ak-47 for the 74 model and thus hhaving two similar guns but different rounds.
>>
>>36842553
They made that many rounds for stockpile that they won't be running out any time soon.
>>
>>36842595
No I'm just saying that (at least to me) the Ak-47 and the Ak-74 look really similar to each other.

I can only imagine the havoc when they start distributing ammo that some fool will get 47 ammunition for their 74 or vice versa
>>
>>36842647
It might not be quite that bad, really. Only back echelon units would get 47s, and the warehouses storing both the obsolete rifles and ammo would only supply these rear echelon units
>>
>>36842647
Different mags bruh, it is physically impossible for a human, even a slav, to put an AK-74 mag in an AK-47 and vice versa.

I asked because it was a phenomenon observed by the Germans among the Soviet rear line, such as railroad guards armed with WWI vintage Gras rifles and lever nuggets. This is not much of an issue in Strikers 89 per say, but more of a thing for Merc's PJ witches.
>>
>>36842647
>No I'm just saying that (at least to me) the Ak-47 and the Ak-74 look really similar to each other.
Just look at the front gas block. Rule of thumb is that if it's tilted 45 degrees, it's a 47. If it's 90 degrees, it's a 74. Rule of thumb, because they made a small number of 74s with 45 degree blocks, too.
>>
[x] So, your familiar is a cat, right? It's true they always land on their feet, right?

“So, your familiar is a cat, right?” You ask, watching the rest of the witches move towards the ramp in the back of the jet- you feel, more than see, her head nod.

“Mhmm.” She says.

“They always land on their feet, right?”

She laughs. “Baron, you be alright. You jus lean back and let maman take care 'o ya, like she always do.”

Merlin- Merlin! Giggles at that, along with the rest of them. Becoming a monk post-war is starting to look more and more attractive by the day. Or at least moving somewhere remote. Like the moon.

Your thoughts are interrupted by the loadmaster ordering you to go to oxygen- you have to work a bit to finally get the mask seated properly- while it's the same general design as the one you use in the wyvern, it's a standalone unit, not one designed to mate to your helmet. It takes a second to get the straps seated correctly, though you eventually do and turn on your oxygen bottle- nodding and giving the air force crewman a thumbs-up when he puts a hand on your shoulder, checking to see if you're ready.

He steps off to the side of the ramp and tethers in, clipping his safety line to a bulkhead, then hitting the ramp controls. They drop with a hydraulic whine, instantly sending small debris- candy bar wrappers, some loose papers- swirling through the bay and out into the night. The temperature in the bay drops by what feels like a good eighty degrees in an instant, the high-altitude cold sucking all the heat out of the pressurized space.

The special operations witches all trot off the ramp when the green light goes on, while you and Brigitte slide off- your height is awkward to manage, even for Brigitte in strikers, so you had to slide across the deck on your butt.

>>
>>36842891
Don't 74 have that larger muzzle brake thingy compared to 47?
>>
You're struck by just how cold it is up here- you're amazed the exposed skin between the strikers and their uniform jackets on the witches isn't instantly frostbitten. Below, you can see the pale gray of clouds- while everyone had wanted to avoid a blizzard, one had apparently brewed up while you were en route anyway.

Still, Maman lands you after what seems like hours hanging beneath a parachute, and quickly frees her harness from yours- yours, of course, is a throwaway, while hers still has equipment she'll need for their extraction later.

You quickly link up with the rest of the team and Brigitte consults a wrist-mounted MFD, almost identical to the ones used by the flight witches.

“De good news,” She starts, “is we only about tree mile from de flight line.”

“What's the bad news?” Katie asks, quietly.

“Part o dat is a climb.” Brigitte responds. “De udda way be longa, but I tink we mebby should use it instead, what wid our guests an all.”

“How much longer?” Someone- you're not sure who- asks.

“Be about eight mile, but none of it be vertical.” She says.

Merlin shakes her head. “B-but as high as we w-were in the plane, s-someone will have s-seen something. T-they may not k-know what they saw, b-but they saw something.”

One of the SEALs snorts. “Kid, that thing is bleeding edge, totally invisible to everything. No way they saw us.”

“T-the Fandance was s-supposed to be invisible t-to.” Merlin responds. “A-and the N-night raiders over P-poland.”

Brigitte shrugs. “If ya tink ya can make de climb, den we'll do dat.” She says. “If she be right, maybe dey be investigatin. De plane don't be stayin around, but if dey be paranoid, it be causin us problems, sure.”

[x] We'll make the climb, the extra time will be useful, especially if they saw us.

“We'll make the climb.” You say, looking at Brigitte. “If they alerted their air defense net, it's going to be a bastard to get out of here for us, let alone for you.”

“Don't be worried about is, non.” Brigitte says with a bit of a grin. “We be knowin how to be takin care of ourselves.” She looks around and stands up. “Alright, breaktime be ovah. Let's go.”

Three miles is almost nothing- you run five in the mornings anyway, so what's three? Should be a walk in the park.

You have to re-assess when you take a look at the climb- it's a good three hundred meters, easy, up an almost sheer rockface, and it's not like you brought climbing gear, just your flight bag.

The Witches take it in stride, with Kim and Melody scrambling up, using their striker's armored fronts to gouge out hand and footholds, then dropping rope lines. Another two SEALs are up next, then they drop a web harness and pull first Merlin, then yourself up.

“I could almost get used to this.” You say to Brigitte, when she joins you at the top. She grins at you.

“Don't be getting too used to maman babying ya like dis, non.” She says, wagging a finger at you. “She be expecting ya to pull yer weight where ya can an take care o her where it count.”

A few muted chuckles greet the comment- you walked into that one. Damnit.

Thankfully, past the one climb, the rest of the distance is relatively flat and stable- you and Merlin, tucked into the middle of the group, don't even have that much wind to bother you.

1/2
>>
Brigitte pulls you up short again, and the group adopts an outward facing defensive posture while she hands you a set of binoculars and directs your gaze to a flight line- just barely visible in the rising snow squall.

“See dere?” She says, and you nod- looks like four Fandances, sitting on their chocks, a fuel truck pulled up next to them. “Whatcha tink, baron?”

You watch for a minute, then hand the binoculars off to Merlin, who looks for a while, then shrugs.

“T-Third one in line.” She says, quietly. “I-It has tanks fitted, w-we'll need the fuel i-if anything happens.”

“The first one has adders on the rails.” You point out. “Might be useful if we get in a fight, and it could help the nerds at china lake with countermeasures if we brought a couple back intact.”

“M-maybe.” Merlin says, handing Brigitte back her Binoculars. “B-but without f-fuel we'll have to go for T-tokachi, a-and we won't have a-any dogfight endurance.”

You shrug- so far, that's the plan anyway, but she's got a point. If you do have to get into a defensive fight, you're going to be really limited without fuel, given how far you have to fly. But with the long-range adders, you might be able to avoid a fight altogether.

[x] We’ll steal the third one back, Merlin's right, the fuel's more valuable to us.

“Third one back it is, then.” You say, nodding. “You're right, the fuel is gonna be more valuable.”

Merlin nods, happy you agree, and Brigitte mirrors it, then stands up. “We don' wan' ta be jus taking it yet.” She says, quietly. “De security troops here, dey might have a problem wid ya trying ta take off wid one 'o deir planes. De girls, dey gonna make sure no one be bothering ya, an takin care of de rest of our mission.”

You nod, and she continues. “But you an me an 'mantha and Amber, we gonna go find us a nice quiet place ta hold up.”

You nod again as the rest of the witches look back. “We'll sit tight for one hour.” Brigitte says, her voice still low, even against the howling wind. “Over in dat hangar ovah dere.” She points, indicating one near the four Fandances.

The rest of the team nods and moves off into the storm, weapons up, while you and Merlin follow Brigitte, with Amber, the squad's sniper, following you two, her rifle still in it's bag and an XM4 up and sweeping.

The base is relatively compact and quiet- the only thing really out of the ordinary, you think, are the two outsized hangars along the other side of the flight line. Both of them are closed up, their contents hidden behind their doors, but they're both big enough, you think, to hold a jumbo jet easily. Either that or a whole squadron of Fandances, which makes you kind of nervous.

The hangar Brigitte's chosen is smaller, and it's dark inside, with the rear hall holding some plastic drums of fluid- hydraulic, maybe?- and a few scattered boxes of tools or parts. The hangar floor sits empty, and the offices along the rear are all dark- a good sign.

Brigitte motions for you to follow her up a set of stairs in the back, to a loft area containing a few tables and some folding chairs, stacked along a wall. She looks around and nods, apparently satisfied, while Amber takes a position near a window, though she doesn't open it.

“Dis be de worst part.” Brigitte says. “We gotta wait for dem ta be doin deir job, den we get you to de fighter and off de ground.”

You nod. “Should we change?”

She grins. “I was tinkin ya'd never ask. I tink ya can have some privacy if ya be goin in de inside corner over dere, but maman can't promise she don't want ta watch.”

[] Ah, that's fine, I can change right here, Merlin's probably going to want the privacy anyway.

I take a slice of the chocolate cake, and place it on a plate. It definitely qualifies as gourmet. Thick layers of chocolate with shavings and icing in between, topped with a cherry on every slice. I swipe a piece of the cake with my finger and bring the delicacy to Merlin's eager lips. She wraps around it like a mollusk as she slowly tastes the folds of the cake, savoring every sensation of the flavor. Her eyes begin to water as I jackhammer the cake to the murky depths of her mouth, like a crude Caribbean diver striving harder each time to reach the bed of oysters and pearls therein, as she passionately takes in more and more of the slice of cake, letting it fill her with pleasure, as if her sanity itself was slowly being lost to the tsunami of warm and fuzzy feelings brought forth by the chocolate cake. I slowly pull the fork out of Merlin, her small lips clamped shut around my finger as if they were a mollusk, but even as I leave, her tongue excitedly flicks across my fingertip, caressing it in Merlin's love of chocolate cake, as she searches for more of the cake she craves so much.

[x] Ah, that's fine, I can change right here, Merlin's probably going to want the privacy anyway.

You grin and shrug, setting your flight bag on the floor and reaching up to unzip the heavy field jacket you're wearing. “Ah, that's fine.” You say, pulling it off and throwing it on the table. “I can change right here, Merlin's probably going to want the privacy anyway.”

Merlin, watching you wide-eyed, nods and hurries off to the corner- you're not sure if she's moving that quick because she doesn't want to watch, or because she does.

The second possibility bothers you more.

“Oh my.” Brigitte responds, at least half-turning, to give the pretense she isn't watching with rapt attention. “Baron, ya be spoilin me now.”

“I can't say I mind much either.” Amber says from her spot near the window.

You ignore them, pulling out your issued- and damnably sterile- flight suit. While you're pretty sure it wouldn't matter much, what with you being as much of a known element as you are, you figure things like this are stock and trade for the special forces types, and so accepted it without much complaint.

Brigitte whistles when you change undershirts- and you see Amber's eyes get wider at the patchwork mess of scars still covering your side.

“Was that Tanana?” She asks, turning back to looking out of her window as she does. You nod.

“Yeah.” You say, nodding, zipping up the flight suit over the clean undershirt.

>>
“She's amazing, then.” She says. “We'd heard you'd been healed by Georgette Mackintosh, but I never thought she'd be that good.”

You shrug. “She kept me breathing, so I'm kinda biased in her favor.” You say with a grin, pulling on your survival vest and clipping on a thigh board, then reaching down to wind your scarf, another present from Georgette, around your neck and into the top of your flight suit.

You finish about the same time as Merlin, who's wearing a full flight suit as well. Without information on the nature of the interface for witches in the Fandance- if there is one at all- you both figured the pantsless version would be pointless, and a good way to get cold.

The two of you then pack your clothes into compression bags and hand them off to Brigitte, who 'pockets' them, dropping them in one of the small cargo compartments along her strikers. She nods at you and motions to the chairs, looking at her watch. “We be havin a few minutes.” She says. “You ready?”

You laugh. “It's a little late to back out now, isn't it?” You ask, grinning at her.

She nods. “Oui, dat it be, but dat don't mean ya can't be nervous, no.” She says. “Be thinkin 'o de girls back home, maybe, or dat ya on ya own out dere, can't no one help ya if ya get in trouble.”

You shrug.

[x] Honestly, I've just been thinking about our route and the weather. I'll see the girls back home soon enough.

“Honestly,” You say, looking over at her, “I've just been thinking about our route and the weather. I'll see the girls back home soon enough.”

“An I'm plenty sure dey anxious ta see ya too.” Brigitte says with a grin.

“Oh, no doubt. We've been gone longer than the three days you asked for.” You say, grinning back at her. “You trying to steal us away all for yourself?”

Brigitte laughs. “ah, ya caught me. Maman, she just can't resist, non? She be wantin de baron all ta herself, just like you be sayin.”

You both laugh at that, but it's cut short at Amber's hissed warning. “Movement!” She says, tracking with her rifle. “Can't tell who it is, not in this mess.”

“Count?” Brigitte asks, all business. “Baron, ya and Sammy, ya be 'gettin over dere behind dat wall." She says, pointing near the corner where Merlin changed.

"Seven." Amber says, a second after the two of you move. "Looks like it's the rest of them."

"S-seven?" Merlin asks you, quietly, looking up at you, questioningly. You shrug and put a finger to your lips- stay quiet, see what's going on.

"Bon. I be goin down ta meet dem. Ya be stayin up here wid de baron." Brigitte says, stalking down the stairs while Amber shifts to cover them.

A minute passes- two- and then Brigitte calls up from the bottom of the steps. "Amber, we be ready ta go."

You see her nod and she motions towards you and Merlin- you follow her down.

At the bottom of the stairs, the SEAL witches stand- joined by two figures, bags over their heads and their hands secured behind their backs with two pairs of plastic flex cuffs- both of their figures distinctly female.

"What-" You start, and Brigitte shakes her head.

"It be none 'o yer concern, baron." She says, kind of forcefully.

It's called "need to know", where people are only told the relevant parts of the mission.

Also, since when did taking prisoners of war become so surprising? It literally happens in every fucking war ever. Frank, as a member of the armed forces, should fucking know this.

"Bon." Brigitte says. "Alright Baron, let's go. 'bout time for us ta be partin ways."

You nod, and she cuts out Kim and Melody to help her- the three of them escort you to the Fandance.

The base is still silent, and the Fuel truck is nowhere to be found- though you do notice the runway lights are off and the tower is dark.

You do a preflight walkaround- Brigitte hassles you about the necessity and how much time it's taking, but she doesn't try and stop you. As unfamiliar as the fighter is, all you can do is look for the standard things- the intakes are clear, the joints all look ok, you don't see any obvious fluid leaks. You tap the side of one of the external tanks with a knuckle and it rings full, a welcome sound.

Climbing in the cockpit, You're forced to take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the controls- you can only just barely read Cyrillic script, but you'd lucked out in that a dossier had been prepared by the nerds in the intel shops, based on recovered wreckage. It also helps that you have Merlin behind you.

"Ya ready to go, Baron?" Brigitte asks, sounding kind of impatient over the wind. "We been out here too long, we need ta get goin ourselves."

>>
You nod, giving her the thumbs up as Merlin, sitting in back, starts up the plane's internal APU and begins bringing it all online.

Brigitte grins. "See ya back in de states. De runway be yours, Baron." And she fires you a salute- one you return, before toggling the canopy switch.

"Ok, starting them up now." Merlin says, and lights up the big turbofans behind you. They turn on with a whining chuckle, but they quickly smooth out into a roar and you begin rolling.

"Watch our traction, Frank." Merlin warns. "And careful with the snow."

You don't take much time to respond- and don't waste any time lining up, instead pushing the twin throttles forward until the red lights located near each lights up- the A/B lights, you assume. The Fandance practically leaps into the air, it's takeoff roll shorter than the wyvern's.

"We're up!" Merlin calls, unnecessarily. "Gear up, annnndddd..... we're good. No air defense systems tracking us, no warnings on the air defense network." She says. "Where are we headed?"

[x] Tokachi, It's our primary and where we're expected.

You decide to make for Tokachi- while Shemaya might be a quieter route, Tokachi is where you're expected, and it probably isn't a great idea to be making last-second corrections to a mission like this, even if the leeway had been given to you in the breifing.

Turning south, you pass close enough to the base to see the control tower enveloped in a fireball- the witches setting off their demolition charges to interrupt activities there, at least for the time being. You note that the other three Fandances you saw on the tarmac are already on fire, columns of smoke climbing into the sky. It'll attract attention, but you guess it was necessary, even if just to cover your presence there.

You pass feet wet over the sea of Okhotsk west of the city of Magadan, with Merlin quiet behind you. It's going well- you've stayed low, and now out over the sea, You'll be entering an area where friendly fighters can aid you.

Which is why it was no surprise when something went wrong. "Frank, We're being tracked." Merlin warns you. "Mig-31s, by the radar signature, and there's something big out there backing them, maybe a Mainstay, I can't tell yet." She warns. "They're Accelerating to intercept."

"How long?" You ask.

"If they've got AA-9s, they'll be in range in two minutes. If it's AA-13s, maybe three minutes." She warns.

[] Try to outrun them! You don't know what the Fandance tops out at, but you're willing to bet it's no slouch.

MIG-31s are interceptors. Outrunning them is not likely to be a good option.

If the Wyvern can do Mach 2.9 and the Fandance is suppose to be equal or better on paper then we can probably go fast enough to atleast get to where friendlies can aid us. Got the Wyvern's speed from thread S2E6.

>>
>>36849731
Compared to the Panzer II/38(t) shitshow, the Yank Tanks aren't bad. At least their guns can penetrate the enemy worth a damn.

The pintle MG on the Yank reserve tank is brilliant for air defence. Crazy traverse speed.

>>36849760

>>36849731
>Horrendously bad
Have we been playing the same game? The reserve M2 is a fucking formula 1 car with a gun good enough to pen both the T-26 and the Pz II at any range, the M2 medium is fucking invulnerable to all threats when at long range, the Lee is the first tank in the game to get a Long 75mm gun, the AA has two .50 rape machines, and literally the only mediocre tank is the Stuarts, with it's 37mm starting to feel inadequate when shooting at IVs at long range.
>>

The Stuarts were just fine
>>
>>36849449
Pretty sure in reality, the MiG-31 couldn't hit max speed without melting its own engine.
>>
>>36849839

The speed that anon specified is sustainable. It can go just above mach 3 IIRC but at that stage the problems you mentioned turn up.
>>
>>36849839
Think that's the Foxbat, isn't it?
>>
>>36849818
I did say that the American AA was good. The only thing so far that beats it in my book is the German wirblewind

The reserve is more like a drag racer, cause it's not going to be turning while in motion, and the lack of apcbc or any aphe makes it hard to score any meaningful kills at range, and that applies to everything but the lee with the 75mm. however the lee is bad in it's own way. Tall profile, and vertical armor facings make any APHE or soviet frag rounds almost a guaranteed pen and kill.
>>
>>36849760

[x] Try to outrun them! You don't know what the Fandance tops out at, but you're willing to bet it's no slouch.

You push the throttles forward to the stops, keeping one eye on the fuel gauges and the other on the indicated airspeed. As you break into the mach 3 range, you grin- you know the Foxbat is fast, but it's not as fast down low, and they're going to have to practically wreck those birds to even keep up, let alone catch you.

"They're falling away." Merlin announces, then hesitates. "Wait- no- Frank! they're closing again!"

Shit.

Still, with the speed you've built up, you'll be closing on Sakhalin island, and the emplaced SAM batteries there.

The missile warning starts screaming in your ear seconds later- no way they closed the distance that quickly! "Frank!" Merlin calls. "Missiles in the air! Jamming's up, but this plane's ECM is garbage!"

"Four- five- Six! Six missiles in the air!" Merlin clarifies, as you break, trying to get a glimpse of their exhaust tracks. "Jamming's ineffective!"

You break hard right, dumping chaff and flare- trying to get the missiles to drop their track.

"They're bringing in additional aircraft!" Merlin calls, sounding harried. "Flankers, looks like."

"Have you called for help?" You ask, snapping the fighter away from another missile- they're launching in singles now, which you can handle. Damaged, the Fandance still feels like a capable fighter, though there's a definite sluggishness in it's handling now.

"Tomcat Kais are scrambling from the Akagi, but they won't be here for another five minutes." She says. "Tomcat Es are launching from the Roosevelt, three minutes."

Ahead of you- you must have been turned around, you count twelve black specks- the Flankers Merlin warned you about. "Three minutes." You repeat.

I don't think it'll happen. I have faith in Frank and Merlin.

That's not exactly Gaijin's fault. There isn't much that would fit there.
>>
>>36850213
There are plenty of experimental aircraft to even out the selection imbalance.
>>
>>36850278
As someone who's not in the jet tier yet, are there any functional differences between the F-86 Sabres and the Mig-15s of the various nations?
>>
>>36850322
Most sabres have 6 12.7mm machine guns

most migs have 20mm and 37mm cannons
>>
>>36850336
No I mean, is there a difference between the Jap Sabre vs the German Sabre vs the American Sabre?
>>
>>36850278
But it's still open beta right now, so they are adding new aircraft so they will get to it eventually.
>>
>>36850355
Oh. no minor differences. mostly.

>>36850358
I hope they add the g10n1 fugaku to balance out the bomber power imbalance that the b-57 has created

or the J7M2
>>
>>36850278
>Experimental
You mean insane designs. The Germans designed a fucking VTOL Jet-Helicopter, but that doesn't mean it should be in the game.
>>
>>36850445
Why not. I would love to fly that in cockpit mode. and the Japanese only had one insane plane design
>>
[x] Engage them! They won't fire into a dogfight, and they'll just run you down if you try to escape on one engine!

Three minutes can be a lifetime in a dogfight.

You break into the merge, firing a few exploratory rounds from the fandance's internal cannon at the lead Flanker, which breaks off, causing the rest of the squadron to do the same. One versus twelve, and you're already damaged, pretty badly at that, but you've got all the advantages, you think. You don't have to track if someone's a wingmate or not.

Unfamiliar with the aircraft, you're glad when Merlin speaks from the back. "I'm keeping us stable." She says. "Barely. You've got archers in the side bays, they're dogfighting missiles, kind of like our agiles. One cannon, port side wing root."

With one engine, you've got a little less power available than the Flankers, but you're able to make up for it in superior maneuverability. The dogfight churns around you, while you attempt to latch on to anything stupid enough to not be wary of you.

These guys are good, you grudgingly admit, slamming into a hard break turn to evade a missile shot, then reversing it to stay away from the guns of another flanker, but you'll get an opening. You know you'll get an opening- no one is flawless, not for long.

1/2
>>
>>36850380
What about J8M, is it worth getting? I am only on tier 2 now and wonder if it worth it.
>>
Breaking away from a second missile shot, launched by a flanker somewhere to your rear, you pivot out of a brief zoom climb, twisting yourself onto the tail of one of your attackers. You grin viciously, dispatching a pair of archers at him- while they're not agiles, they're good enough, and their expanding rod warhead does the job, knocking the flanker out of the sky, the pilot riding his ejection seat away from the wreck.

"Splash one!" You cry, banking away from the wreck, and then diving underneath a pair of flankers, both trying to line up for deflection shots. "What's the ETA on those tomcats?"

"Now." Merlin says, and you see the shapes of a dozen tomcat Es joining the fight, their flat grey paint schemes broken by the black block lettering along their fuselages.

"Ronin, Ronin," An unfamiliar voice calls, using your briefed callsign. "This is Blizzard. Break away from the fight, descend below angels ten, extend and evade. We'll handle these jokers."

>J8M
Yes that thing is terrifying. It has twin 30mm cannons and the acceleration of a rocket. Which it is. Plus it has a tiny profile which makes it hard to kill. 30mm cannons are something t4 and t5 japanese planes get in spades. and although their accuracy falls off beyond 500m it usually only takes one or two shells to kill most planes except heavy bombers.

[x] Roger Blizzard, thanks for the assist.

"Roger Blizzard, thanks for the assist." You respond, diving away from the fight and headed south.

While you keep tabs on the dogfight behind you. The flankers, surprised and losing three of their number in the opening attack, plus the one you got, are fighting to stay in the air when the Japanese tomcats add their numbers to the lopsided equation. Nothing back there is any further threat to you, but you're low on fuel- there might be a leak in the lines somewhere, and it's with a huge sense of relief you spot the runway of Tokachi airbase and set down, following a Japanese army security vehicle to an open hangar, while a pair of armed humvees, both equipped with antitank missiles, follow you. While you had to confirm your identity beforehand, you can't fault them for making sure.

You open the canopy and slowly and deliberately deplane, noting that, while the IJA troops in the hangar don't have their weapons pointed at you, they do seem a bit jumpy.

It's made apparent why when a familiar voice greets you.

"Imagine my surprise." Her imperial highness, the princess Katsumi says, smiling as she walks towards you "When I find out, not only have the Americans planned to steal one of the fighters giving us such headaches, but the crew they've selected to do it is none other than the Eagle and the Spirit."

She stops, just inside arm's reach, and grins. "How are you, Frank? Samantha?"

"I'm not- Hrufmph!" You're caught off-guard by Jess, who lands an impressive tackle on you. "OhmaigodhiFrank!" She squeals, hugging you. You notice a few of the IJA troops look away, coughing. Yeah, you're embarrassed too.

"Hi Jess." You say. Well, if you weren't planning on staying, now you're going to have to. You're pretty sure she broke a rib or three.

Sisters. Right?

And that's it for the night!

Funny story, so as I was posting the last updated, I saw >>36850587 and couldn't help but think "Yeah, I kinda do too. I mean, he gets away from the flankers... and runs straight into Jess."

Hahah! kidding! I really like writing her, she's fun to work with. I know you guys opinion on her is mixxed, don't worry, we're not staying in glorious Nippon long. (Don't wanna mess with merc, haha!)

Anyway, guys, It looks like a Christmas eve run next week, so Wednesday, then probably a one week break, then back to regular times in January. Hope that works out for everyone. Today would have been run Tuesday like normal, but for the plague or whatever the fuck this is. I'm still not 100% over it, haha.

Anyhow. That's it till next time, so till then, guys, I hope you had fun, and cheers!

God damnit Ghost we miss every special occasion before it gets special, you've seriously got to stop that.

>>
>>36852306
I never wanted to waifu her, I just wanted to have some fun with her party, but of course we get yanked away before it even properly starts
>>
>>36852408
It's really not that big a deal.
>>
>>36852425
It is when it happens every fucking single fucking time we have an event like that. It just builds the expectation that we're going to be disappointed and the fun is going to be cut short, and its only reinforced when it happens without fail.
>>
>>36852478
We're combat pilots in the middle of world war 3, not high school students trying to make sure our waifu notices us. I think you care too much about inconsequential shit.
>>
>>36852270
But we had Wendy's party though.

I'm more interested in Bridgette having video of Frank chaning
>>
>>36852799
You don't understand, he wanted to have written scenes of Wendy being super weepy and grateful, and basically turn her birthday into an extended multi-thread event. Since that hasn't been done, he feels slighted that he was not spoonfed exactly what he wants.
>>
>>36852838
I'm happy with how Wendy's birthday turned out for the most part though I wanted to know what the rest of spell-caster got for her.

besides she was weepy/happy?
