You were currently standing on the half-sinking wreckage of two ships, having just rammed one into the other. Staring directly at you and the small frog by your side was a hulking sea serpent. You’d heard tales of such creatures, but you’ve never seen one up close before. Its fangs are at least the size of your forearm, and look to be as sharp as any sword. Gauging its size, you’d guess it to be larger than most of the houses around town. Its eyes are what truly strike fear into you though, piercing straight through you, like you weren’t even there.

Whatever you were going to do, you needed to do it quickly.

There was no way you were going to be able to take this thing out all by yourself. You scoop up Froakie and begin running towards the far end of the ship. You hear a terrible roar and the splinter of wood behind you, but you don't stop to look.

Once you reach the railing, you quickly thrust your sword towards the shoreline, hoping to arrive near the lightning monsters. If you were lucky, you'd be able to lure this thing over there.

>Ceil HP 7/10

The distance was a bit further than you were expecting, but you find yourself standing on the dock, near some of the other troops. Glancing back out over the bay, you see the writhing form of the monster winding its way through the waves in your direction. It seems it was heavily intent on pursuing you.

As it nears closer, it lurches its long neck from the water and unhinges its jaw, unleashing a deafening blast of energy towards the shoreline, carving its way across the water's edge. The sheer force of the blast knocks you over, though you weren't hit directly. You're glad this thing didn't seem to have the patience to aim, or else you'd be dead.

Glancing over the shore, you see that some of the lightning monsters over here have been hit or shaken up as well, though the remaining ones are staging a counterattack and zapping the serpent. While it seems to be bothered by the lightning, it's not doing as much damage as you'd expect. This thing must be pretty strong to overcome that.

You watch as it slowly drifts down and backwards, it's ferocity tempered somewhat. Maybe that huge breath attack wore it out?

You're not sure if that thing was just taking a breather or completely exhausted, but either way you weren't going to let this opportunity pass you by, you needed to take it out before it could fire off another attack.

You aim at the scales of its underbelly and lunge, soon finding yourself hanging by the handle of your sword embedded in the chest of the creature. You wince as it unleashes a pained cry that rings in your ears.

It twists its body in an attempt to bite at you, but with your position it can't quite contort its neck to reach you. Froakie leaps out of your pouch and onto the creatures head, and begins spraying bubbles to help cloud its vision. As it whips its head to try and shake off the small frog, you use the momentum to help you swing around onto its back, grabbing hold of one of the large fins. You begin thrusting your sword between the thick scales and plates on its back, and it seems to write in pain from the wounds.

Abruptly, it begins to lurch forward, starting to dive down into the sea.

You tighten your grip on its fin and wedge your sword under its scales, inhaling deeply before you find yourself crashing into the water. You're thankful that you took the time to learn how to swim without closing your eyes as you look around.

The beast seems to be turning away from the shore and heading back to the rest of the fleet, possibly looking for help to get you off of it. You consider what to do about this, but you soon realize that the force of water pushing against you right now is rather immense. You're fairly certain that letting go of anything would result in you tumbling backwards, and you'd rather not be floating in the open sea with this thing.

Froakie seems to share your sentiments, though he's having an easier time holding on than you. You can see him on the serpent's crest, batting at it with one of his limbs and spewing bubbles when he gets the chance. He seems to be making quite the nuisance of himself. You briefly wonder how the monster will react, until you see that its swimming towards the wrecked ships at a rather fast pace. You think it's going to try and ram Froakie off of it.

Fortunately, the diminutive frog seems to realize this as well and leaps off. Neither of you would fare very well if this thing tried crashing into that at full speed. However, once it realizes the small creature is off, it starts wheeling about to look for it. Once it finds its quarry, it whips around towards Froakie, who begins using his speed and size to his advantage, swimming up towards the surface.

The sea serpent angrily follows on his heels as Froakie dips around the various debris, occasionally firing a spray of bubbles. He seems to be headed for the side of the ship. Soon enough you watch him leap out of the water, and the beast you're on follows suit. You briefly spot Froakie hanging onto the side of the ship, about to be crushed, but he nimbly leaps out of the way once again as the monster crashes straight into the hard wooden hull.

You take the opportunity when it surfaces to get another grasp of air and stab into it again with your sword, causing it to reel back in pain, almost entirely upright.

It twists its neck down towards you and attempts to fire off one of those beams once again, but you quickly swing out of the way. It strikes the surface of the ocean instead, resulting in a rather large burst of water being flung into the air and coming down like rain.

Then, you spot Froakie coming up out of the water again, with a rather sizable water pulse charged up. He crashes it into the side of the beast's face, causing the weary creature to topple over onto the deck of the ship. You take the opportunity to dislodge yourself and stand on a solid surface, though you give it a few extra swipes for good measure. Froakie lands besides you, and begins working up a froth of bubbles.

The beast lurches its head up once more, still having some fight left in it. You grip your sword once again, before you become aware of a bright flash of light from your left. You turn towards it, and where Froakie was standing is something a bit bigger. Leaner as well, and more sleek. Was this Froakie? It had to be.

The not so small frog glances down at itself, tentatively flexing its new limbs. It seems to nod in affirmation after a moment, evidently pleased with the changes.

You're not really sure why that happened, but you can question it later. Right now, you've got an angry sea monster to deal with.

'Froakie' leads things off, firing a volley of three small bubbles towards the beast. While at first you question such a small display, they all burst open after a moment, covering the area in a fine mist. You take the opportunity to rush forward while Froakie ascends the mast.

The serpent slides its way forward onto the ship to get its head out of the smokescreen, and you watch its tail slip out of the water. You shudder at the thought that this thing could survive on land, but you focus on the task at hand.

'Froakie' catches its attention with a rapid-fire stream of bubbles, which seem to hit with a lot more force that its previous clouds. The monster tries to fire of its breath attack once again, but only succeeds in hitting the mast, as your frog seems to have all but vanished. As it glances around in confusion, you take the opportunity to run up its spine, sword in hand. By the time it notices you, its to late. You've already planting your sword to hilt in its neck. As it cries out in pain, you grip your glaive in your other hand, spearing it a few extra times for good measure.

Glancing up, you spot 'Froakie' with a water pulse falling from above, soon crashing directly into the serpent's skull, causing it to plummet down to the deck. It splinters some of the wood, and you leap off. It's body lies still, but you wait a few moments before prodding it to confirm.

You turn to 'Froakie', who gives you a sly grin at you combined success.

>Frogadier HP 25/25

You look out across the bay to see how the rest of the battle is progressing. It seems like the main force has completely overtaken the enemy's lead ship, and the other few on the other side of the harbor were turning to retreat. Seems like the battle was wrapping up nicely.

You decide to assist in the main battle. There probably wasn't that much still to do, so you line up a lunge towards the ship. It wasn't too far away, and you manage to make out the figure of a rather large man on the deck of the enemy ship. He seemed like a good target to take out first.

Froakie tries to squeeze into your pouch, but his new size is just a little to big, and he's also a bit heavier than he was before. You see his eyes droop in disappointment as he instead dives into the water and begins swimming towards the ship, intent on meeting you there.

As you lunge towards the ship, you find yourself on the deck stabbing into what feels like a brick wall. Your sword seems to be wedged into some rather thick plate on a torso. You glance up to see four burly pairs of arms moving towards you, and one of the lower ones hits you with a jab. Despite the relative softness of the blow, you find yourself flying backwards across the deck and into the railing.

>Ceil HP 3/10

You look back up at your aggressor, who is not a man, but a monster. It has four strong arms and seems to be outfitted with rather durable looking armor. It's wielding a few different tools, a harpoon, a boarding axe, a rather heavy looking shield, and a free hand with a heavy looking gauntlet. This thing was probably one of their heavy hitters. You notice most of the nearby sailors are a mix between both crews, meaning the battle had become rather disorganized. While that did mean you would be able to focus on this beast, it also meant it was able to focus on you.

You swear you see it grin as it begins to move forward.

You grip your sword in both hands and wait for the monster to approach. You'd definitely nee Froakie's help to take it out. You just hope you could hold on until then.

Soon enough, the beast rushes forward, chucking its harpoon at you as it charges. You quickly sidestep the projectile, though the beast alters its course to meet you. It swings down with its axe, which you barely manage to deflect down into your deck. This thing's strength was unreal. Fortunately, that meant the axe embedded itself rather deeply in the deck, meaning it was currently lacking a weapon.

You edge yourself away to give a bit of distance, wary of its next move. It keeps its shield close as it swings at you with a free arm, which you easily avoid. However, as you do, it's other arm picks up the harpoon, while the final one manages to dislodge the axe.

It presses its attack more carefully this time, lunging with the harpoon so you have to sidestep, then slamming the axe down towards your new location. You're very careful to not spend too much time blocking any single attack. It was almost like you were having to fight several people at once. You don't even want to imagine how bad this would be if you were trying to counterattack as well.

Just as you're getting used to this thing's attacks, it abruptly shoves you back into the railing using its shield. It was using it for defense until now, but it seems like it's figured out you're not trying to attack it. This was bad news. While you could side-step the spear and deflect the axe, the shield was to big for you to easily move out of the way, especially with your back to the wall like this.

However, over the railing comes a familiar shade of blue and a volley of bubbles, which crash against the monster's shield. It seems like 'Froakie' arrives just in time.

You gesture to the small frog, who nods in acknowledgement before bounding off into the crowd, leaving you face to face with the creature.

It's confidence seems to grow back a bit once it sees that you sent away your reinforcements, and it begins moving in to attack once again. This time, you fight a bit more aggressively, just to make sure it doesn't decide to shield bash you again. None of your lunges go through, though fortunately you don't get your arm cut off in the process. Occasionally, you manage to nick one of its arms during a swing, though you don't feel like its doing much. You've hit it multiple times and haven't even drawn blood. You question if it even needs armor.

Slowly but surely, you're forced back towards the railing as the rain of blows hammers down on you. Just as you're wondering what happened to your support, you spot a faint blue glow behind your aggressor, who then lurches forward as though struck heavily from behind. Most likely by Froakie's water pulse.

However, you soon realize the flaw with this plan as the monster is pushed into you, slamming against you and the railing and causing you to both tumble off of the ship. Luckily, you're able to think quickly and jam your blade into the hull to prevent yourself from falling. Unfortunately, you were just rammed by several hundred pounds of muscle and armor.

>Ceil HP 1/10

You glance down and see that the creature has also managed to latch on with its boarding axe. Then it slowly begins to climb, using its harpoon, axe, and multiple arms to ascend its way up. It's still a ways below you, but that's going to change soon.

You see 'Froakie' appear above and launch a stream of bubbles at it, though it quickly deflects them using its shield. You might be on your own for this one.

You start swinging on your sword, readying yourself to leap into the ocean. Once you build up enough momentum, you sail through the air, swiping at the climbing beast as you do. While you miss the creature itself, you manage to splinter the shaft of his harpoon, which should make his job of climbing more difficult. He tries to grab at you with an arm, but you're already out of his reach.

'Froakie' leaps down after you, spewing a cloud of bubbles to mask his descent. You splash down into the water, and find him floating at your side, wrapping your arm around himself to help keep you afloat. The bubbles on his neck seem to increase and expand, giving you more surface to work with. The two of you then proceed back to shore. The battle would go on fine without you.

As you swim away, you glance back towards the battle, where it seems all the remaining enemy ships are starting to sail away. You spot a few lifeboats also being dropped down with sailors piling in them. While they wouldn't get across the canal, it might get them out of the harbor, which you suppose would be all they'd really want.

Eventually though, you arrive at the east shore line, where it seems most of the fighting has stopped. You spot Riolu tending to a few of the lightning monsters wounded from the attack earlier. He seems to look nearly as worn out as you are.

"I think," you sigh, "I think I need to lie down."

Lisa takes your other arm and guides you over to a bench. She and Froakie lay you down, setting your weapons aside.

"Wait here," she says, "I'll go find someone to help."

You give a slight nod, and you try and focus on staying awake. It was pretty difficult though, you felt really tired for some reason.

Maybe if you just closed your eyes for a second.

-----------------------------

You blink open your eyes to find yourself lying on your bed in your room. Glancing down, you notice that you have quite a few bandages wrapped around the midsection of your chest. You tentatively sit up, then wince as a sharp pain goes through your side.

You tentatively place your hands on your side, attempting to heal yourself. While the level of pain subsides, you're fairly sure whatever injury you sustained is still there.

You gingerly stand up, careful not to aggravate your injury any more. You consider placing Lisa in your bed, but you don't know it it's safe for you to lift her in your condition. Instead, you take the blanket from your bed and wrap it around her. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than nothing.

Next, you head downstairs, moving rather slowly. once you get there you find your mother and father speaking with one of the local doctors. Johns you think his name was. Your mother is the first one to notice you, and she rushes over and starts supporting you with her arms.

"Ceil!" she exclaims, "What are you doing out of bed? You need to be resting!"

"I don't feel that bad," you say, "Honest."

"I'm surprised you don't feel worse," Doctor Johns comments, "You had rather severe bruising all along your side, as well as a cracked rib. Not to mention the sheer level of exhaustion you seemed to be displaying."

"Well," you continue, "My side still hurts a lot, but I don't feel very tired."

"Still, I must insist you not walk around excessively," he retorts, "That said, you should probably eat something to keep your energy up."

"Don't worry doctor," your mother replies, "I'll take care of him."

Your mother guides you to the sitting room, placing you down in one of the rather plush chairs. She sends one of the maids to get you something to eat as well. First they bring you some light biscuits to snack on, then later one comes in with a bowl full of thick soup. You start peppering your parents with questions eager to find out what you've missed. Evidently, after you fell unconscious, Lisa had one of the field medics patch you up, then she carried you to your house. They called the doctor earlier in the morning to check up on you and make sure it wasn't anything serious. Evidently, Lisa stayed up all night watching you to make sure you were okay.

As for the battle itself, it was a resounding success. Casualties on your side were surprisingly low, most of them consisting of lightning monsters hit by that sea serpent's attack, or some of the men fighting in the main battle. The current focus was on treating the injured, clearing the wrecked ships out of the harbor, rounding up any stragglers, and keeping watch in case the ships return. Things are still tense overall, but getting better.

The soldiers from the capital would be arriving in a few days, which reminds you to tell your father about the captain you interrogated. Confirming their country of origin was very helpful, and the fact that they were going to send reinforcements was also useful, although now it was questionable if they would still try to take the city.

Your monsters woke up before you did, so your mother fed them and put them in the yard. She was worried they might get a bit overzealous with watching over you, and didn't want them to accidentally hurt you. As for your injury itself, the doctor said it would heal in a little under a week as long as you took things easy.

You suppose it was really over after all. You sigh and relax back into your chair, considering what to do next.

It's with the rest of your equipment presumably. You didn't spy it in your room though.

You ask your mother to help you out back to see your monsters, and she's happy to oblige. As you pass by the door, you spot your gear lying in the corner nearby. You decide to grab your ghost sword from it as you pass. Wouldn't want to leave him out of it.

Once you get outside, you spot Riolu and Bagon trying to catch 'Froakie', who is having an easy time escaping them with his new form. He was already the fastest and most nimble of the three, but now it's even more obvious.

The three head over to you once they see you. Riolu leaping up into your arms and Froakie, positioning himself on your shoulder. You sit down to help support the extra weight. You needed to have a talk with Froakie to remind him he wasn't light enough to sit on your head anymore.

The three of them seem no worse for wear. Froakie seems refreshed from all of the fighting he did yesterday, and Riolu is fine from all the healing he preformed. Bagon even seems a bit more attentive than usual. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that you let him fly around last night?

You weren't really in any shape to do physical training alongside them, but maybe you could do something else.

You decide to set up a little contest between your monsters, just to keep them on their toes. You have Riolu fetch a hefty looking stick from the nearby trees, and explain the general rules of the game.

The goal was to strike the stick against the opposite fence, with Riolu and Bagon having the left fence, and 'Froakie' having the right. After striking the fence, they then needed to give the stick to you, and you'd toss it to the center of the field again. While some rough-housing was allowed, you didn't want them to just knock eachother out to win.

Once you finish clarifying the rules, you begin. 'Froakie' rather quickly takes possession, with Riolu and Bagon moving to intercept. However, the two seem to more get in eachother's way, preventing them from putting up a meaningful defense. The same thing happens during the next two rounds, with the two generally failing to stop the nimble frog.

Before the start of the next round though, you see them discuss with eachother about how to proceed, and during the next round it pays of. Bagon leads of with a flurry of embers directly towards the stick, which is countered by a quick stream of bubbles. However, with the distraction in place, Riolue nabs the stick and begins moving for the fence, while Bagon peppers 'Froakie' with fire to keep him distracted. The score soon balances out, with the two working in concert to take out their swifter counterpart. Eventually though, they seem to tire out, and you give them the opportunity to rest.

You head back upstairs to your room, with Riolu and the others following at your heels. You slowly open the door, spotting Lisa still sitting in her chair asleep. While you needed to get some rest, you're not sure if you want to just leave Lisa like that.

You enlist the help of Riolu and Froakie to get Lisa into your bed, having them help support you and her as you gently move her over to your bed. She mumbles a bit as you set her down, but she seems to be more relaxed now that she has a pillow.

Next, you gingerly slide in beside her, pulling the covers over the both of you. Your side feels much better after lying down, and you feel much more relaxed. Your monsters position themselves on their various pillows around the room, clearly wanting to get some rest as well.

You look over at Lisa's sleeping face. She really cared about you a lot. Enough to stay up all night and watch you sleep, plus didn't your dad say she carried you all the way here last night? You'd need to remember to thank her later.

You stretch out your legs as you try to relax, until you realize something. You put Lisa into your bed first, but your bed only had one side next to the floor. Lisa's side was currently right up against the window, meaning if she wanted to get out of the bed, she'd have to climb over you. Although you don't know if she'd be willing to, what with your condition.

You eventually shrug and find yourself drifting of into a nap. You're sure Lisa would be fine.

And that's it for tonight's thread everyone. Thanks for sticking with me. Once again, I'll be here for a while longer for questions or comments.

hmm, could we speed up our healing process with aura or is it just for flesh wounds?
>>
>>36810380
Aura healing is mostly for energy as well as light cuts and bruises. It also speeds up natural healing somewhat, but internal or more severe injuries can't really be treated by it at this point. You could get around that by using it during a more surgical procedure, but that's very tricky and beyond your expertise. At higher power levels of it it'll expand what it can heal, though broken bones are pretty much the most difficult thing for it.
