You fish you keys out and head inside, closing the door quietly behind Shadow Alex. The lights in the house are off, and you make your way quietly through the house. Your room’s light is on, making it easy to find your door, you open it up, causing Kat, who’s at the computer, to jump.

“Y-you surprised me,” Kat complains holding a hand over her chest, her ears are flat against her head, “Welcome home,” she gets up and hugs you.

You hug her back, rubbing her ears with one hand as you do so, “Sorry, didn’t mean to… were you waiting up for me?”

Kat inhales deeply, “Well… not really? I was watching things,” she pulls back glancing at Shadow Alex, “How’d things go?”

“Pretty well actually, ended up finding where it was quickly, might’ve been at it a few days if not for that,” You explain, “Then thanks to everyone the fight was… a lot better than it could have been.”

Kat hesitantly smiles, “Thats good…. but why are you still in uniform?”

“Well, for one, I’ve gotten a new set of abilities and have no clue what they do… and for two I’ve got a change that’s going to happen and I’ve been putting it off,” You shrug, “Figured it’d be better around someone I know.”

Her smile blooms into a real one, “Well, I’ll help you if you need it.”

You nod, “Why don’t we head out back so I don’t break any of my shit.”

“Yo’ I’ll be here, want to… research some things,” Shadow Alex says glancing at the computer, “I’ll share what I find later.”

You shake your head with a smile, as Kat leads the way out back, “Try not to cause… any distractions yeah?”

Once out back you pull your book out, the usual catalyst, and find that the mirrors seem to hold an ink like liquid in them. You focus on that and give it a pull and find you can take the liquid from the book, a lot like you can store other things inside.

It spreads out and creates a circle along the ground that floats up to shadow your movements.

Kat watches from the chair your dad sits in while grilling, “You’ve really come a long way in a couple days Alex.”

“Yeah?” You say while realizing you can force it to act as your shadow if you wanted.

“You’ve got a second element… I don’t have that, and I’ve been one much, much longer,” Kat’s smiling warmly.

You shrug, “Circumstances were in my favor, if it wasn’t for this job I wouldn’t have it,” You think back to the fight remembering the giant fist she used. Immediately the circle around you forms it ready to use, you get the feeling it’ll interrupt just about anyone with its force.

“Still, you’re amazing, you just do it,” Kat smiles.

You shake your head as you try for the spikes that Summer was chased by. With no target they just form hundreds floating before you in a half sphere. You’re actually pretty impressed with how responsive it is to your will, maybe thats just what you can expect for a less physical element?

“Not so much Kat,” you create a bubble around yourself, once again remembering the fight, “I’m just lucky.”

Kat laughs, “Well at least your modest.”

You consider continue playing around with it some more but you figure it’s late enough as it is, and will yourself back. With a shatter, your clothes come back, and the bubble of darkness fades.

You watch as the excess magic you picked up comes crashing into yourself.

You look to Shadow Alex who’s already in bed grinning widely, “B-but uh… Sis wants to sleep with you too! So…” you frown up at Kat, “You’re next! She’ll be sad otherwise!”

Shadow Alex decides to help out, “Please big sis Kat? We both want to hug you!”

Kat glances between the two of you, before smiling, she picks you up, hugging you as she climbs into bed pulling you close. From the other side of Kat you can feel Shadow Alex’s small arms trying to wrap around both of you as best she can.

Kat’s purring within minutes as she slowly rubs your hair, easily pulling you into sleep. Your mind drifts as you realize its really nice to be pampered sometimes, relaxing in to Kat’s arms snuggling up to her as you do.

You slowly climb out of bed, you realize your t-shirt is large enough to preserve your decency. Satisfied you don’t need to change you pad out into the living room and find your Mother immediately, she’s sitting on the couch watching a movie. If you wanted you probably could get by her without her noticing… but that’s counter productive right now.

You wander over and sit on the couch next to your mother, who pays you no mind until you lean against her, “I’m hungry, and uh… the cabinets are really high.”

Out of the corner of your eyes you see your mother glance at you before smiling widely and pausing the movie, “So things happened huh?”

You frown and face your mother, “Well things happened, I had a job to do.”

She ruffles your hair, “This almost makes me want to give you a little sister.”

“... yo’ if that’s what you want? We’ll need a bigger house though,” you hesitantly say, trying not to think too much about that one.

Your mother frowns, “Well for now I’ll make do with you asking sweetly for food.”
