Finally, after five days in a line of greasy neckbeards, it's your's!

Sword Art Online!

You hastily pay the man behind the counter, surrounded by a mob of people fighting for his attention. Did you give him an extra ten dollar bill? Fuck it, SAO is worth it.

You rush past the crowd outside, shielding the hardcopy with your body from the losers who couldn't spend a week in front of a videogame store. You slide into the blue Honda Civic, then turn the key. The engine purrs to life, happy to have been roused from it's slumber. You slip into traffic, weaving between the cars on Main street.

Arriving at home, you notice that your roommate's keys are missing. Unable to get out of work, Calvin will have to wait for the next batch of games. You climb into a pair of loose shorts and a T-shirt, then place the NerveGear on your head. A flick of the hard plastic button on the left of the helmet, and the world goes dark.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7aC-TIkF3I

"WELCOME PLAYERS! TO THE WORLD OF AINCRAD" A deep voice booms out from the sky, assaulting your virtual ears. Turn down the volume a bit, why don't you?

You look down at your body, admiring the graphics. The light cotton shirt flutters gently in the wind, letting a cool breeze in. You can make out every thread and stitch on your clothing, including one thread thats coming undone from you right sleeve. A thin piece of hardened leather covers your chest, straps leading over and under your shoulders to the backplate.

Sadly we'd need Kirito's special snowflake skill tree or one like it. (only 10 unique skills in game counting Dual wield blades and Holy cross.) Not too mention we'd not be able to hold agro cause we'd do no damage. SAO had no shield skills.
>>
>>36732028
Spike shields, we can set the bodies that stick on fire.
>>
>>36732018
It's just one guy asking for it when there is already a vote with majority you know....

>>
>>36732028

Not necessarily. Shields can be weapons too. I mean, if one shield has goddamn sharp edges and the other has spikes, you can use it to do someone a mischief.

It worked for Captain America and those two Knights in Dark Souls 2, after all. With the right kind of shields, you can fuck people up. And since we're already hideously strong, why not?

Though admittedly, an axe is rather more useful at killing people than a shield.
>>
>>36732070
>already hideously strong
Are we gonna spam STR, anon?
>>
>>36732040

Holy Cross was, in fact, a skill that allowed you to use a shield offensively.
>>
>>36732084

What else would we spam? We're a big manly guy. It ain't right for a guy like that to prance around.
>>
>>36732086
Yeah I know and it was a special snowflake skill. Dual wielding shields would require something like that as well. As a general rule there are no shield skill trees.

>>36732070
We'd need a real weapon to hold agro on bosses otherwise they'd ignore our asses.

>>36732084
I'd favor a medium build or a heavy build, axe and shield means we can rip and tear with proper skills.
>>
Question:Is OP going to be THAT GUY by ignoring the majority vote?
>>
>>36732084
stick with what you know
>>
>>36732124

I vaguely recall that there were Shield skill trees. They just didn't have any offensive abilities.
>>
>>36732132

>>
>Age 20
>Hair color: Gradient, white+violet

>Anything you might want to add: In-training Fashion designer
>>
>>36732153
Which even if we could duel wield them then, we'd be useless as a tank due to no threat to enemies. Bosses do learn in this game which makes them a pain. We get a tree for a shield, that's great one shield one big weapon(hammer/axe/large spear/arming sword/morning star/mace/etc.)
>>
>>36732194

This actually makes me wonder how the OP is going to handle Bosses. Like, in SAO, Bosses are huge and elaborate encounters with upwards of 40 players involved.

The effect is less of a Boss fight, and more like fighting in a minor war. Like, shit is going down left, right and centre, and you're desperately trying to avoid a Boss that's going all Dark Souls on people.

You added an inch to your height, but make the avatar extremely close to your real body. The thin leather and cotton is stretched by your broad chest, forming to your muscles.

With a short one-handed axe on your hip, you walk through the gates into the Starting City. People surge in with you, pushing to get into the walled city. Everyone is is the same outfit, males in simple cotton pants, shirt, and a thin plate of leather. Girls are in anime style armor, that is to say they are in skimpy skirts with "breast"plates. All are in various colors, variations of the same clothing.

Inside the town, wide stone streets lead in a grid up to a large building. NPCs are yelling from stands on the side of the road about their wares, including weapons, armor, and food.

You check your inventory against a shopkeeper's wares, looking at the prices and starting prices. You have ten Cor in your inventory, the worst looking dagger is seventy Cor.

>Look for quests

You wander through the streets, looking at the hyper-realilistic buildings and people. Amazing, what VR can do.

You step into a building, marked as an armor-smith's shop by a shield made into a sign with letters burned into the wood. A large man with black, curly hair is dressed in a leather smock and a white shirt with it's sleeves rolled up to reveal his massive forearms.
"What can ah do fo' ya son?" The smith says, polishing a pair of bracers with a small cloth.
"I'm looking for work. Do you need anything?" You ask, making a pretense of looking over his stock.
"When, I've been running low ahn a few items. Some leather would be useful, most people here cahn't buy anything else. Why they're so strapped for cash, lord knows why. Some wolf hides are good, if you can get me ten pelts, I can make you a piece of armor or pay you."
>A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing Quest: Gained
Give the armor-smith ten wolf pelts

You nod to the smith, ducking out of the tan brick building. Pushing through the crowd, you stumble a bit on a raised cobblestone. You slam into a guy with green and tan clothing, who knocks into a girl in pink.
"Hey man, what the fuck?" The guy asks, raging as his hand slips down to his hip.

it was supposed to go to fastest reaction times, which disregarding his beta status he has game breakingly fast reaction time. So yeah I bet that as well. Be hilarious if we got the strongest IRL skill tree which deal concussive force hits or something in the same vein.

>>36732805
Was meant to be part joke, part roleplay and part "really going to try and PK for a girl?"
>>
>>36732562
IIRC every weapon tree has a skill that halves cooldown time and is interchangeable regardless of which weapon you use.

So we can just grind up every weapon until we obtain their cooldown ability then start spamming swordskills like they were normal attacks, even if it might just take forever.

"Jolly right, good sir. Stumbled on a fookin' cobstone. 'Mazing realism, ain't it, mate? Keep canoodlin' ur lass mate, wont interrupt." Why the fuck did you slip into a stereotypical English accent? Whatever.
"Yeah, you better be sorry," The thin guy says. He mumbles under his breath, "Fucking English, the French are better in every way."

You leave the two to their canoodling, carefully walking on the uneven brown cobble stones. The girl in pink hangs of the guy's arm, another piece of jewelry amongst a pile of them.

Pushing through the city's gates, you finally get a good view of the floor. Golden grass waves in the breeze, forming shifting patterns. Colored dots mark the location of players, often in clusters of two or three.

You walk down the dusty path, stroking the plants at the side of the road. They feel...real. Its amazing, you can't even tell the difference from the real world and the NerveGear's.

A growling comes from the grass off to your right, a pair of red eyes staring out of the gold grass. They glow with a ruddy light, faint light seeping from the irises.

You draw the bearded axe from your belt, pulling it up into a fighting stance. The eyes stare menacingly out at you, completely still.

The growling rises in pitch, an octave higher. A B note. The eyes flash a bit brighter, red light dripping into the grass.

Then something hits you in the back.

You roll with the blow, straight into the golden grass. A sense of discomfort creeps up your arm, a dark blue shape hanging off it's jaw. You flail your arm, swinging the steel head of your axe into the underbelly of the Dire Wolf. It whines with the blow, ruby blood running into it's fur. You chop at it again, catching sight of the other wolf charging at you.

The one on your arm fractures from your third blow, white light streaming from cracks in the beast. It breaks into white flakes, each the size of a thumb.

You pull the axe back as the second wolf charges in, the blade growing a golden coat of light. You release the blade, letting it fall into the charging wolf. The gold-light sheathed blade sinks into the canine's shoulder, sending it tumbling to the side.

Red blood covers the axe head, slowly running down the blade to fall into the grass. Three droplets stain the plants, a stark contrast of red on the golden fields. The wolf is circling you, limping slightly with the cut foreleg.

You scream, putting all of your pent up rage and pain(really, discomfort) into the cry.

You sheathe the axe, slipping it into it's frog. The grey and white wolf turns it's head to the side, looking at the strange man that wishes to fight unarmed. It shrugs as well as a Dire Wolf can, then charges forward.

You wait for it to get close, close enough to bite off your crown jewels. Then you dive forward, sinking your hands into the grey fur as you pass over the wolf.

The animal is pulled off it's feet, it's pelt pulling it along with you. You duck and roll, keeping hold of the wolf. You come out on top of the wolf, legs splayed out on either side of the wolf's chest. Funny, this is just like that one Japanese book you fappe- read.

You lift a fist, holding it over the beast's chest. It claws at you, but it's position prevents any real attacks. You fist glows gold as you hold it, the skill powering up.

You bring the fist down into the monster's ribs, feeling them cave in with a grinding feeling transmitted through the skin. The wold whimpers, before white light pours out from the fist sized hole in it's chest. Cracks shoot through the beast, before it shatters into white flakes.

Howl and Battle Healing locked in.
>Howl
The ability to agro monsters, and frighten weaker ones. Frightened monsters get negatives to their rolls. Grows in strength with your level and frequency of use. Please don't use indoors, it hurts my ears.
>Battle Healing
The use of special meditative practices that let your HP regenerate at a higher rate. One use per day, lasts thirty minutes. Day calculated by the time, so you can use it consecutively if you time it well.

Please wait while I write the next part, what do you want to do?

Don't sell yourself short, you just need to put more meat in your posts.

You pick up the Cor and wolf pelts from the ground, adding them to your inventory. You wipe the blade of your axe off on the grass, wouldn't want any rust. Do weapons rust in this game? Whatever, Sargent Jameson would find you and beat the shit out of you if you let any weapons rust.

You keep fighting in the grasslands, chopping down at Dire Wolves. You slay twelve wolves, in ones and twos. resting between the battles, you marvel at the beautiful surroundings. It's times like this where you are happy. Exploring nature, everything silent except the rustling grass. You test out the Howl in the middle of a field, axe at ready. Three wolves cut lines in the grass, making rustling noises as they slide through the virtual plants. Luckily, as three seems like a bit too much, you are near a tree.

You climb into the tree's branches as the wolves jump up, arching through the air. One gets a nip at your foot, but they miss for the most part. The pack starts circling your tree, jumping up to snap at your ass.

You pull the axe from it's frog, holding it up until a wolf jumps. It leaps right into your blade, sinking deep in it's quest to kill your character. It shatters into a million pieces, the white shards floating to the ground. Thats five more Cor and a pelt.

Two swords stab out of the bush, their simple steel blades cutting into the Dire Wolves. The pair of wolves break apart, giving the other players their Cor and pelts. Fucking kill stealers.

The swordsmen step out of the bush, putting their swords back in their sheathes at the player's hips. One is a buff guy with red and tan armor, the other is a girl with blue and green.
>what do you want to say?

>>
>>36734258
I wonder how OP is going to handle grinding. Combat is all we'll and good but if we have to roll to fight all 10 of these wolves it's gonna get boring. I hope they save combat for interesting/important things. Maybe have a generic "grinding roll" or aluck roll. Roll poorly, have a situation with a hard ass fight we need to do personally.

"No I'm not sore about how you stole my kills, before you ask." You call out from between the leaves. The girl, with bright blue eyes and hair the color of the virtual sun, looks up at the source of the voice.
"You looked like you might need a bit of help. Three wolves on one guy. Not the best odds, seeing how it took us three hits each to kill one." The guy shouts up to you.

You drop from the tree, executing a sloppy roll to land a body's length from the duo. "I'm Sam. Trying out a new skill that worked a bit too well."
"Looks like it. What level are you?" The blond girl asks.
"Two, why?"
"Just curious. I'm Emily and this is Chris, btw." The girl says, flicking her hair to get it out of her face. She pronounces it B-T-Dubs.
"Nice to meet you. What are you doing out here?" You ask, swiping the dust off your pants and flashing an easy smile at Emily.
The tall guy chimes in, having been silent for the whole time you've know him. Which is, admirably, twenty seconds at most. "Grinding before everyone gets here. Wanna team up?"

"Sure, why not? I'm running a wolf hunting quest for the blacksmith, you?" You press a button on your menu, sending a party request to the pair. They accept it, motioning at the faintly blue screen. "So, how are you guys fighting? I've been building a tank, so theres one job done."
"We hadn't really though about that. We're both level two, so we put two points in agility and the other in strength." Chris says. "just grinding till we have enough Cor for good weapons."
"So, now that we're a party, do you want to keep hunting?

>Go for boar

"Lets go for some boar, I already have enough wolf pelts for my quest." You say, answered with two nods from your party members.

You walk down the road, taking the occasional stop to look for monsters. As an open world game, the monsters are visible all of the time, though they are fairly sneaky. The wolves, at least, the boars leave tracks all over the place.

You Howl once your party has formed up into a triangle, drawing a boar out from the grass. It's purple underside is splattered with mud, along with it's muzzle. It locks eyes with you, piggy eyes glaring out from between folds of skin.
"Here, piggy, piggy," You cry out at the monster, who rips up a piece of earth with it's three inch tusks.

You stay in formation, bristling with steel. "Okay, when it charges me, you guys go off to the sides and attack it's flank." You whisper to your party, unsure if the monster can understand you.

If it can, it doesn't seem to care. It charges are you, head lowered to rip up at your fragile stomach. You watch with your peripheral vision, as Emily and Chris curve to get on it's sides.

You let it get close, before sidestepping and swinging the axe like a golf club. The gold covered blade cuts into the pig, almost being yanked from your grasp as it keeps running.

The two swordsmen fall upon the monster, swords blazing red with each downward chop. You stride up to them, lifting the axe two handed like an executioner. You let it drop, a streak of green following the head.

The blade impacts, killing the monster. Three Cor appear in your inventory, along with a haunch of pork. In all, you now have 78 Cor! Now you can buy a shitty dagger!

The world goes whitish blue, before resolving back into reality. Virtuality. Something. All around you, people are appearing in the cobbled square. What the hell is happening? Chris and Emily are next to you, looking up at the sky.

A giant, cloaked man forms above the square, his face a black hole in space.
>Insert his rant

You open the menu, then look in the <<Mirror>>. All around you, people disappear, and are replaced with new people. You look in the mirror, seeing your real face. To your left, is a tall and lanky guy with black hair. At his side is Emily, whose hair is a shade darker. Seems both of you recreated yourselves in SAO. Emily looks up at the lanky guy, though her words are swallowed by the roar of questions, you can guess what she's saying. Chris got a lot taller and lost weight.
