/tg/ - Traditional Games

Alright, let's try this again this week, haha. Sorry about Tuesday, we lucked out in that Hornet had a copy of the OP handy, and I had partial notes for the run in my notebook. Last time I try to type them up on the fucking computer, I'll tell ya that, hahahaha.

So, news. Our schedule at work for the next couple weeks is pretty strange, so IDK if we'll be having regular runs in the next couple weeks. We may shoot for Monday or Wednesday, or just take a break till the new year, Not sure yet.

++

You'd left late that night, both you and Merlin led out of the house by Brigitte. Both your own and Merlin's pack were on your back as she blearily rubbed sleep out of her eyes- you'd stayed up, unable to sleep.

You'd passed by Wendy out on the couch- looked to you like she'd fallen asleep there, her gifts still arrayed around her, her new stockings on. A deep navy blue, they'd been embroidered as a night sky, and a wyvern and a witch flew there, no opponents arrayed against them. A lot of her gifts had been little personal things like that- Ice had gotten her a gorgeous white scarf, one with the squadron patch on either end. You hadn't asked, but it looked and felt like silk- the real stuff, not synthetic. The twins and Rosalie, perhaps predictably, had gotten her new skivvies. You hadn't asked about those, though you'd felt more than a few pairs of eyes on you when she'd held them up so everyone could see them. You guess, now, they just wanted to see what you thought- you'd maintained careful neutrality on the topic.

You'd left your poncho liner on her as you'd walked out- she'd forgotten to get a cover of her own, and while it's not exactly cold, it's not warm enough to comfortably sleep without one. She'd been curled into a little ball, happy, you suppose, but still cold.

1/3 (probably)
>>
Your ride out was, surprisingly, a jet black C-141, one wearing no unit markings beyond a US air force tag along it's fuselage. Brigitte ushered you inside, greeting the load master with a nod, then to a pair of seats along the side of the fuselage. The cargo bay was mostly empty, just a couple larger cargo containers strapped down and a few small arms cases.

The flight was a long one, though this worked out in your favor. After letting Merlin sleep for a few hours, you woke her up and the two of you started pouring over the limited documentation available on the fandance. There isn't much, and most of what there is is from the wreckage of the white butterfly's plane, which had been shot down, then cut up before it sank.

Still, between that and the recovery of other wrecks, plus after action reports of fighter pilots who've encountered them, there's enough speculative information to work with. Brigitte listens in with feigned disinterest as the two of you discuss the soviet counter to the Wyvern- you can tell she's trying too hard to look bored while she listens.

All in all, you and Merlin agree that it probably turns worse at slow speeds, while it's high speed handling seems to be plagued by a tendency to want to stay in high-G turns and bleed speed. It's got a pair of external hardpoints on the wings, and you know from experience it's also got a centerline bay and a pair of dorsal bays, like your Wyvern. It's turbines aren't massive models Soviet aircraft usually rely on for their high speed fighters, which is odd, but entirely possible- Soviet aviation technology may lag behind the west's, but not by much, and they did benefit from a huge amount of martian salvage post war, so there's no telling what developments may have come forward.

2/3 (I think)
>>
Merlin's worried about it's defensive electronic suite. It's sensors, by simple dint that it hasn't benefited from Merlin's attention and tinkering are nowhere near as good as the Wyvern's, but the defensive suite, according to Merlin, is almost child's play to power through, it's got almost no ECM protection at all. That'll make your job harder in a fight- you'll have to do more to evade missiles, instead of relying on Merlin to simply jam them.

You landed at Andrews AFB in the early morning hours, refueling and taking aboard additional pallets of cargo, as well as a half dozen witches, all of whom eyed you and Merlin warily, but greeted Brigitte warmly. They've mostly left you alone- the ones sitting closer to you have, like Brigitte, been listening in on you and Merlin discussing the Fandance, but they haven't attempted to engage you in conversation directly.

3/4 (oops)
>>
You were surprised to find the still-familiar base at Adak Island on the other side of the cargo ramp when it opened what felt like weeks later. The place has been downsized, of course- there's still a hornet squadron here, and part of a Tomcat unit in the older B+ model, along with a mixed bag of maritime patrol, rescue, and support aircraft, but the majority of the rest of the considerable air fleet is gone, as are the ships in the harbor- all that sits there now is a freighter. The SAM sites up on the hills appear to have been downsized, too, though that's hard to tell from this far away.

Brigitte, for one, doesn't look happy, shouldering her bag as she motions for you to do the same and follow her. “Dis place be too cold to be proper humid like dis.” She says. “It always be one or de udda, too dry or too cold.” She steps off the plane, and you and Merlin follow. She motions to a building up the way- the one you were quartered in when you were here, months ago. “Dat's our place fer now. It been empty since de first unit move out, dey ain't even opened it up.”

Suddenly, you remember something you left up there. Something you'd really, really rather not explain.

“Wonder why?” You say. “Looks like a nice place?”

“Udda dan it bein too cold, oui.” Brigitte says. “But dey do no be needin it no moah, no reason ta be usin it.”

“Wonder if the first owners forgot anything?” You ask, mustering as much innocence as you can- you're afraid you overdid it.

She looks at you slyly. “Oh, I be imaginin dey do, maybe.” She says, with a bit of a grin tugging at the corners of her lips. “Tink it be a mixed unit dat be in it last. Dere be a few o dem in de pacific, but don't tink too many heah.”

She knows, you realize, with a sudden, horrible thought. She knows who was here last.

You're saved, at least for the moment, by a call from one of the other SEAL team witches- the little brunette that looks like she runs fifty miles for fun every day. “C'mon Nix. It's too cold to be out here chatting!”

“You be right, Mel. We be in a second, you and Jessie be getting our gear up here?” Brigitte says, turning her attention away from you.

The girl- Mel?- Pouts. “What, because I said something first, I have to do it?”

Brigitte smiles again. “Dat be about right! I make it up to ya, maybe I cook tonight?”

It only takes a second for the girl to think- then she nods. “Ok, deal. Hey Jessie! Gimme a hand!”

You hear a grumbled response from inside the Starlifter- one of the other witches, you assume, though you don't know them by name yet.

“While dey be doin dat, let's us go in and see if de people what came befoah us done forgot anyting.” Brigitte says, turning back to you with a grin. “Don be wantin no surprises, no.”

If everything went better than expected then we do the above, after demonstrating our ability to neutralise the Russian super witch with headpats. ONI and China lake start work on weaponising Bishop grade headpats

And to splash a plane, much less a witch you need to have a really good line of sight on them, plus the COFFIN interface on the wyvern gives an enhanced picture.

[x] Ok, but I don't know anything about anything.

You nod, somewhat reluctantly. “Ok,” You say, agreeing. “But I don't know anything about anything.”

Brigitte's grin, if anything, gets bigger. “I be sure ya don't.” She says, her voice sarcastic and teasing.

The three of you walk up to the building in silence- you can just make out the sounds of the surf down below, along with the noise of the rest of the base. The place is hardly the hive of activity it was, but there's still plenty of vehicles moving about, and, of course, the cargo ship unloading down at the dock, which looks like it's somewhat expanded, with another pier added since last time you were here.

Entering the front doors, you're struck by how stuffy the building's air is- it smells and feels like it hasn't been opened up since you left at all, though you know caretakers or janitors would have had to come through at some point. At least, you're relatively sure.

“Dis place be laid out backwards.” Brigitte says, looking at the ground level fire escape map. “De quartahs should be upstairs wid de common room, de offices and mess downstairs.”

You shrug. “Makes sense if you have to scramble- no stairs to go down.”

She pauses, then nods. “I guess dat it do.” She looks around the dining hall- kind of dusty, as things have settled, but otherwise spotless. “It don be makin no sense for us, but we don't be here long nohow.”

“H-How long will we be here?” Merlin asks, right before you do.

Brigitte shrugs. “Don't be too long, I tink. We jus waitin for good weather for de job, really. De mountains we be goin into be havin lotsa nasty snowstorms dis time of yeah, we do no wantin to be addin more troubles to de whole deal wid a blizzard!”

You and Merlin both nod. “If we were just going in as a strike package, I'd say we shouldn't be worring.” You say, and Merlin nods, agreeing. “But we really don't know how the Fandance is going to fly real well just yet, so you're right, no sense in adding that into the mix.”

“Is dat going ta be a problem?” Brigitte asks, turning to head down one of the hallways- the ones you were quartered in. The ones where Ice's Christmas gag gift lay. “I don't be knowin how you be operatin so well, it seem to me dis be de time to be finding out.”

WHAT

[x] It's going to be a hell of a challenge. Fighters are all different, and this one isn't like anything we've ever flown before.

You chew your cheek for a second before answering- no sense in lying. “It's going to be a hell of a challenge.” you say, and Merlin, again, nods. “Fighters are all different, and this one isn't like anything we've ever flown before.”

“B-but it should be fine, we c-can do anything!” Merlin says, from next to you. You nod and muss her hair- hard enough to knock her glasses askew. She pouts at you for a second before fixing them.

“Merlin's right, we can tackle this. It's just going to be different.” You say.

“Well, dat's good. Dese rooms all look ok, you got one you be wantin?” Brigitte asks.

Very aware of Brigitte's eyes on you, you shrug and grin, following her in. There's no evidence of the lingerie or the note, but given the smile she gives you, Merlin knows.

[x] Alright, where did you hide them?

You- rather calmly, you think- set down your flight bag and your pack, and sit down on your bed next to them. Merlin, sitting in almost the exact same place across the room on her bed looks at you, still smiling.

“Alright, where did you hide them?” You ask. At this point, you know she knows, and she knows you know.

“I-In my pack.” She says. “T-that was a silly thing t-to get Frank.”

“I'm aware.” You respond. “Can I have them back?”

“F-for what?” She asks.

“So I can get rid of them better. Like sinking them into the Marianas trench.” You say. “Or finding a flamethrower. Or strapping them to a napalm can next time we get those.”

“I-I think I'll keep them.” She says, shaking her head. “I-it will solve a lot of p-problems if I do.”

“Like what?” You challenge.

“That doesn't explain why you'd bring it along.” You say. “Brigitte or one of the other witches could ask, and-” she cuts you off.

“F-frank, our primary is in Japan, a-and your sister and the i-imperial princess are in a relationship. I-I'm sure I could tell e-everyone I thought I'd see K-Kenji and they'd believe me.”

“Clever girl.” You admit, forcing down thoughts of Merlin trying to 'look good' for her boyfriend. You're going to have to have a long, long talk with him about her, you think.

She smiles again at the compliment. “I-I know.” She says. “”B-but only because I-I've been learning from you. S-should we go say hi t-to the other witches?”

[x] Yeah, let's go. I owe you one, kiddo.

“I could give them to Ice, like I'd planned.” You point out. “I mean, yeah, it's a gag but- what?” You stop because of the look Merlin is giving you. She just laughs.

“S-sure. I-if you want to die in y-your sleep w-when the fighting s-spills over a-and they blow up the house o-or something. I'm k-keeping them.” She says, with a measure of finality. “T-trust me, it's b-better this way. I promise I w-won't agitate them.”

She pauses. “M-much. Maybe t-the twins.” She stands up and poses, one fist on a hip. “L-look what f-Frank bought me!” She giggles. “T-they'd lose their m-minds.”

“And I'd still be a dead man. You're too young for me to be courting, you know.” You say.

“O-oh I know. B-but it would be funny.” She says. “L-let's go get introduced. We d-don't know any of these witches.”

You nod and step out of the room, waiting for Merlin to follow you before closing the door. You doubt anyone will go in there, and even if they do, like she said, they're only going to find the stuff, as you've begun calling it, in her bags, which is totally acceptable. You guess. You're not really sold on that, but you'll go with it for now, anyway- it's easier that way.

Merlin's cracking lewd jokes.

I don't know how to feel about this.

On one hand it's hilarious on the other Merlin is not for lewds
>>
The two of you almost run into Brigitte, who, by the looks of things, was coming to get you. She confirms as much when she looks at you and nods. “Ah, dere ya are. I jes be comin ta get ya, need ta introduce ya to de crew.”

“They seemed kind of standoffish.” You say, following behind her anyway.

“Dey be like dat- de community we be in ain't bein used ta havin people like ya in it. Dey jes not sure ya be up to de demands o de job, oui?” She says, then shakes her head. “But dey respec me, so dey be willin ta give ya a shot. And we don't be askin dem to take ya on in deir team, no, jus work wid ya one mission.”

You nod, understanding- the special operations community is notoriously difficult for outsiders to get to know, let alone work with like this. You can only imagine that's amplified in an all-witch team like this.

“So what's the deal with this team, anyway?” You ask, suddenly thinking about it. “An all-witch SEAL team seems kinda like overkill.”

Brigitte laughs. “Normally it be such, oui.” She says. “Normally we be all split up, doin tings in our specialty all over de globe. Sometime we be workin wid a normal team, sometime we be alone, it make no difference. All witch teams like dis be special tasks formations. Dey not have too many of us, jus about twenty, mebby less.”

“S-so this team is a third of all SEAL witches?” Merlin asks, and Brigitte nods.

“Oui. It be pretty special ta be called all togther like dis, and it be a big risk. If we don't be makin it out, poof. Dere go a lot of witches dey can't replace.”

“That's pretty- damn. All for us?” You ask, kind of speechless at the thought of so much risk being taken.

Brigitte shrugs. “Kinda, but no really. Ya and de liddle one be part of it, but de mission be important enough ta warrant dis anyway.” She says. “De fandance, mebby by itself its not able ta change de game, but wid the brain ting it got....”

2/3
>>
“Yeah, no kidding.” You say, following her up the stairs, to where the SEAL witches are all seated around the TV- you have a moment of deja vu from when the squadron was here, sitting in the same places.

“Kim, be doin maman a favor and turnin dat off, I want y'all ta be meeting our fliers for dis one.” She says, and the marathon runner complies, shutting off the TV to turn and look at you and Merlin. Five other sets of eyes do the same.

“Y'all, dis be Lieutenant commander Frank Bishop an Lieutenant Senior grade Samantha Wells.” Brigitte says. “Oui, dey be dat Frank Bishop and dat Samantha Wells.”

A few witches let out whistles at that- the low, sliding kind you'd use when passing a particularly bad car wreck, for example.

“Pulled out all the stops on this one, eh maman?” One of them asks.

Brigitte grins. “I be callin in a favor from dem.”

The witches laugh at that. “So, she got you too, huh Baron?” One of them asks- the tanned Valkyrie in the corner.

Merlin is like a little sister that you protect and care for. Also one that you can't lewd, but you know that one day inevitably she'll be lewded by others. It's a weird feeling with a mixture of happiness, pride, and a strange desire to utilize a chainsaw.

Agewise, I'd say she's old enough for her to be playful and tease the others about her closeness with us if she's comfortable with it, but actual lewds off limits without some sort of official, proper engagement, ring and all.

From our side, absolutely no lewds. She's our little sister, period.

All of that is irrelevant anyhow, Kenji seems like a good soul, and I'm all for the two getting married.

Wendy is on a different level from Merlin and Goose, in my opinion. She's not quite as young as Merlin, and seems far less of a little sister than either Merlin or Goose.

Whether that equates to girlfriend/lover material is something entirely else, and would depend heavily on how Wendy sees us. I doubt we would seduce her since we're just not that way, so it's left to her to decide whether we are a best friend, big brother, or her first crush/love.

[x] Well, she's just so good in bed I couldn't say no, know what I mean?

You grin and shrug. “Well, she's just so good in bed I couldn't say no, know what I mean?” You say, causing everyone to laugh- even Merlin- Merlin!- giggles a bit.

Brigitte, for her part, just smacks you in the ass- and gropes it a bit while she's at it.

“See, I be tellin ya he not be so bad.” She says. “We be havin to work ta get him up ta speed I tink, but we don't be havin much time, so we bes hurry.”

She pauses after a couple of the other witches grin. “And no, we do no be tryin to do a frozen hell week, ya hear? Dey jus need ta be able ta follow us an get ta de airplane, not kill everyting in a tirty mile radius.”

Everyone laughs again. “Right, so de two over dere, de marathon type runner lookin girl wid de small boobies, dat's Lieutenant commander Kim Deadman.”

“Ya know, I'd still stack my body against yours any time you want, Brigitte.” Kim responds.

“Maman mebby be takin ya up on dat later.” Brigitte says. “Her partner dere, de blonde what looks like a cheerleader type”

“It was gymnastics.” the girl says.

“De gymnastics type, dat's Commander Melody Shepard. De two o dem, dey been together since training-”

“Fighting together.” Kim corrects. “Not, ya know. Together together.”

“Right.” Brigitte says, laughter in her voice. “Dey been fightan together since trainin. Dey good at what dey do, dey almos as good as maman.”

“De plain lookin girl over dere, Dat's Lieutenant senior grade Katie Elder. She be our pistol fighter, good wit dem and a knife. And demo/sabo, dat too.”

“Like blowing things up isn't the most important thing ever.” Katie responds. “Nice to meet you, Eagle. “

While I don't know and can't imagine how long Ghost is actually planning 89 to be, I personally feel like we're somewhere around the middle of the movie, so to speak. Maybe Season 3 of a 5 season series?

I mean, while I'd love 89 to go on forever, it should have a proper beginning, middle, and end.

It feels like we are closer to the middle/end than the beginning, but that's entirely my own perception, very likely.
>>
“Do no be tryin ta make moves on im, now, kate.” Brigitte says, and the witch grins and shrugs. “De redhead in de back, dat's Lieutenant Commander Amber McLeary. She be our sharpshooter, she be as good wid her rifle as ya be with a plane.”

“Better.” Amber responds, a hint of challenge in her voice.

“De one over dere wit de nice butt-”

“Hey!” The witch in question protests.

Brigitte laughs. “Dat's Lieutenant Jessie Winchesta. She do no be related ta de gun family, no, she jus got de name like she be. She be our Machine gun operator, got her some prototype from ten yeas ago wid some weird round dat make logistics a pain in de butt.”

“Six by forty five is the future!” Jessie says. “The future!”

You're pretty sure you detect a bit of a twang in her voice, marking her as either from northern Texas or somewhere in the area, but you keep quiet.

“And de big Valkyrie in de back, dat's Lieutenant Henrika Torni. She be our heavy weapons girl, she a good hand wid de blowing shit up ting too.”

Lieutenant Torni just nods towards you.

“Hey, Brigitte” The close combat one- Katie, her name was- says.

“Oui?”

“Hey, were's Richards? Isn't this kind of thing right up her alley?” She says, and Brigitte laughs.

“She be wit a PJ team, las I heard.” Brigitte responds. “I heah deir capitaine, he be a looker too.”

“Well, we'll take what we have here. He's plenty cute enough.” Kim says. Brigitte steps in a hair closer.

“Ya be waitin yer turn.” She says.

Judging by the looks you're getting, you're glad Brigitte holds as much respect among them as she does. You're not sure how you'd fly with a crushed pelvis, heal witch or no.
