Finally, your expedition against the Lintha is over.

The battered, damaged, half-burnt vessels of your combined attack fleet sail proudly into Tianna harbour, welcomed by a cheering crowd. You see people waving from the docks, the piers, the windows facing the sea. The sailors, even though they're tired and wounded and some still shell-shocked from the sight of the Lintha's demonic horrors and the terrifying displays of power of Exalted combat, wave and cheer back.

Good. They need to keep their morale high, because it's not over yet.

There's still the Abyssals.

And the fact that they haven't attacked yet, like you expected them to, and aren't even anywhere to be seen, is nerve-wracking. Fortunately the soldiers and the populace, not knowing the details, seem to just take it as a good sign, or not think about it at all perhaps.

Even amid the cheers of victory, you see some distraught faces. Those that expected the return of Tianna's flagship. Or who were waiting for the return of someone who is nowhere to be found.

You had your losses. They might be just the beginning, unfortunately.

The crewmen and dockworkers quickly unload your loot from the fleet, carrying it and storing it away in the dockside warehouses. The ships that are still in shape to fight are resupplied, and the army engineers, recognizable from their long white cloaks, feverishly disassemble the Essence discharge artillery pieces from the other vessels, in order to return them to the defense of the castle or the city, or to better equip the few combat-worthy vessels left.

As for your ships, only the Bloodshark is entirely undamaged. The other two suffered some damage, and could still be used, if necessary, for sailing and transport... across a calm sea, in good weather. Both Mikahil and your captains agree that they're not fit for combat right now.
And as for the Gloria, it's a miracle it didn't sink on the way back. However, that little wonder of a ship is out of commission for now.

After overseeing the operations for a few minutes, more to get your mind off your other worries than for actual interest, you decide to head for the castle, where Amata is gathering all the intel and scouting reports available to you, and waiting.

Tia, of course, follows you, leaving her tribe's warriors, now disembarked and fishes metaphorically out of water, stranded in Tianna's dockyard with nothing to do, to fend for themselves.

I'm just worried the abyssal's are going to play the long game with us. They could try to starve us out by killing all the merchants that come here.

"We need to go to the castle. Amata's waiting for us, and we need to know what the heck's going on with the Abyssals." You tell the Lunar, glancing over her shoulder at the mass of barbarians milling about aimlessly in the docks, getting in people's way and being generally rowdy.

"Just tell them to come with us." You inform Tia offhandedly. She turns and stares at her tribe, who look back at her like st a reliable anchor of murder in the murky waters of civilization.

In the next few minutes, a large crowd of pelt-wearing warriors rampages up along Main Street, smashing windows and upturning food stalls in your wake, blocking passage of goods and soldiers up and down Tianna and leaving tribal markings graffitied on the walls.

"Tia." You groan, already worried about the earful Amata will give you once she learns about this. "Rein them in."

"Boys will be boys." She just shrugs, seeming to take a level of glee and almost something like personal pride in the trail of chaos.

"Most of them are girls." You note.

Makes sense. Traditionally, in the West, men take up the jobs on the sea, leaving the women to the jobs on the ground. You hadn't thought about it, but for a barbarian tribe on an island, hunting and defending the village counts as the latter, while the men fish or launch canoe raids or whatever.

You thought at least Iscariah would behave and keep the warriors in line, but she seems to be the first in line, her face half-splattered with melon guts after headbutting a fruit stall, biting into a large apple and laughing uproariously about another warrior's crude drawing painted on a nice house's wall by rubbing tomatoes against it.

Rolling your eyes all the way, you finally reach the castle, and ask Iscariah to keep them in the courtyard. At least this place has a large garrison of Tiannan soldiers who seem to be able to rein in the barbarians. Maybe their looks of scorn are slowly getting the idea across that what they just did is not considered acceptable behavior here.

Leaving the shaman with the war party, you and Tia head to Amata's war room, which is already abuzz with activity. Soldiers and officers run here and there carrying news and dispatches.

Amata, Irene and Samiel are huddled around the table with the map, together with some high-ranking-looking officers. They all raise their eyes from it to meet your gaze.

"...Good, you're here." Amata sighs with relief. "Come and see this."

"Sorry for the mess." You apologize, approaching the table. Everyone is wearing a worried face that doesn't bring your hopes up much.

"Mess?" She wonders, evidently not informed of the damage Tia's party did downtown yet. "Anyway, look here." She repeats, gesturing at the map.

The now-familiar map of Tianna has a large, round, smooth dark red stone placed on some hills to the northeast of Tianna, beyond a lake whose name you can't recall exactly. Several small black flags have been pinned around it, arrayed along the river and lake shores, and several more red flags stand behind them.

"Abyssals?" You ask, already knowing the answer.

Irene nods. "Their airship, and forces. They didn't attack Tianna despite it being defenseless up to now. No idea why they waited for us to return."

Amata glances at you with a knowing look.

"What's with the red flags?"

"Unconfirmed reports." She explains, rather cryptically.

"Well, what do the confirmed reports say?"

"About eight thousand troops. All physical undead. We don't know where they might be hiding any other, more supernatural assets. If any."

Eight thousand. Even if you brought your entire forces to the fight, you'd still be outnumbered two to one.

"Such as?"

"Ghosts. Magical siege engines. Things like that. We also don't know where their Exalted are, exactly." Samiel explains.

That doesn't mean much. Exalted are generally high-mobility forces on the battlefield. It's pointless to track them on a map.

"...What do the UNCONFIRMED reports say?"

"Fifteen thousand. Three thousand of them are specialized ghost troops: night fighters. One thousand of them is shock troops. Heavily armed and armored bone horrors. Also, possibility of flying troops, held in reserve in the airship." Amata explains.

Not good.

You send for Karas, and he arrives not much later, acting like a tourist visiting the castle. he doesn't seem especially impressed, though.

"So, is this our headquarters?" He asks, getting some nasty glares from the officers and soldiers milling about.

"Sort of." You explain to him, as you and Amata bring him up to speed on the situation.

"What are our forces?" He asks back, eyeing the map.

"Two thousand soldiers are Tianna's standing fighting force, plus reserves and fleet crews we can press into service as footsoldiers. One thousand more has been raised as conscripts, but they have minimal training. They have good officers drawn from the regular army, but no operational experience." Samiel points at a series of blue and green flags stabbed in and around Tianna, and some more in the outlying villages.

"We have quite a bit of artillery, but we can't field it effectively. Most of it is mounted on Tianna's fortifications. It will take us another day to assemble a good, mobile battery in case we want to bring it in the field." Irene adds.

"This is my boys, right?" Tia prods a series of light grey flags, some in Tianna, some in the countryside, some in the northern forests, scattered around.

"Yours and Zaan's and Talon's. The forces we can raise from the Three Rivers, generally. One thousand warriors." Samiel explains.

Tia gives him a look of superiority, like numbers don't matter and each of them counts as three normal soldiers. Or like numbers don't matter and she counts as three thousand normal soldiers. It's hard to tell.

"Incidentally, we have a sword you might like." You grin, remembering that. "An ORICHALCUM sword."

Karas seems intrigued by the idea. "...I'll go check it. Where did you even find it?"

"Long story." You shrug dismissively. "So, how are we going to fight this battle?"

Well we have a walled city and are outnumbered 2 to 1, sounds like we should be forcing them into a siege, have the cannons on the walls and the Exalted attacking key points.

A big problem is going to be stopping the ghost from just walking through the walls and attacking us. Maka could just kill any that try near her, but they'll soon learn to avoid her, is there anything we can do to stop them, Sorcery or something? You spend the next minute staring at the map.

As much as you don't like the idea of leaving the initiative to the Abyssals, and you like the idea of bringing the fight to the city even less...

"...Focusing on defense and fortifying ourselves seems the best option right now." You say. "Even if they bring the airship to bear, we have artillery here. Which means that their only option will be to besiege us. That plays to our strengths."

Everyone nods without much enthusiasm.

"What about the civilians?" Amata scratches her chin. "On one side, there's Tianna's population, and on the other side, we have people abandoning the outlying villages in the countryside and coming to the city seeking protection..."

That sounds like a crossfire waiting to happen.

>Evacuate everyone from the countryside. We'll protect them within Tianna's walls.
>Have everyone return to their town. Let them know that the situation is under control.

"...can Tianna hold all the refugees?" You need to know.

"Hold them? Yes, barely." Irene sighs. "But with that much extra people, in case we get down to a siege, our supplies will last for barely two weeks."

"Have them taken in, then." You order.

"Are you sure?" She doesn't seem enthusiastic about the idea.

"Maka's right, we don't have much choice." Karas and Amata exchange a glance and a nod. "We'll have to make sure it doesn't end in a siege. And he trails with a weak "...somehow."

You stand up from the table. "Good, let's get started. Rally all our forces. prepare for defensive warfare."

"I'll bring all the artillery from the ships back on the walls." Irene announces, leaving the room in a rush.

Time to bluff.

Have Irene and Twilight-Solar-Whose-Name-I-Forget meet with Amata. Amata brings them into the Titan. They have one job: Sabotage it so that it looks even less functional than it is now. Not necessarily do any real damage to it, but make it look like the damage is much worse than it is. And rig a self-destruct system so that we can make the damage as bad as it looks just in case.

Then we bring ONE Abyssal into it. "We're sorry, but we know what you want, and you're not getting it. Even if we gave it to you, you still wouldn't actually get it. So, if there is a single object within your target that you want for sentimental reasons, I'll promise to fetch it for you. But your target itself stays grounded. You suppress a smile.

"...Karas, why don't you go and see Pyre Spark and ask her about this?"

"Pyre Spark?" He asks back at you.

"The local priestess of the cult of the Sun."

He looks surprised. "That's a thing here?"

"Ask a bit around, she's well-known. Go see her." You suggest to him.

Then, you leave the war room, with Tia in tow, for the bedroom where this half-ghost was locked up in, according to Amata's directions.

You stop in front of the door, which has been sealed with four circular paper talismans stuck to each corner with red wax, painted with a complex glyph penned in green ink.

"Tia, please let me talk with her without interruption, alright? I need to-" You start.

You roll your eyes.

"...no." And you open the door.

The room is comfy enough, with carpets and sofas and a nice table with chairs and even a vase with flowers. The flowers must have been fresh once, but now they're all dried down, oddly enough without losing any of their colors.

And, sitting on said sofa... you're not sure she's really a "half-ghost". She looks like a full-blown one, a glowing, ethereal figure whose shapes seems to softly ripple and shift like tendrils of smoke in a breeze.

The image is that of a young, beautiful woman with a long, flowing dress. A crown of dried flowers adorns her head, and others are tied around her waist.

You can sometimes see the bones shining through beneath the ectoplasm of her skin and phantasmal flesh when it peels back, and her eyes have absolutely nothing in common with a human's, large dots of light like ghost stars surrounded by deep blue rings that give you the same feeling of discomfort that an optical illusion would cause if stared at for too long.

And yet, despite the creepiness, she is heart-achingly beautiful.

The ghost named Reken stares straight into you, and her expressionless face bends into a pleasant smile.

"It's nice to be graced with the attention of so illustrious a personage, Exalted Maka. Mere descriptions really do not do you any justice." Her voice sounds hollow and carries with it a bit of an echo... not the distant echo of screaming at a mountaintop in front of a closed valley, but the booming feedback of a theater or of a large, empty room.

Inform her of the situation, the Deathlord has moved an army in place, the truce is technically over, but it seems odd to do such a dangerous move while we still have hostages held against each other, unless of course they don't care what happens to you.

As for the seductive, we don't necessarily need to have sex with her, but not getting the most out of HSDD is silly.

"I don't have tea or coffee or drinks to offer you, unfortunately." She apologizes, shuffling to the side to make space for you on the sofa.

"It's the thought that counts." You take on her offer.

You notice Tia sitting down on the ground a couple of meters away from the two of you, looking interestedly.

"To what I owe your visit? I thought I was due to being released. The truce is over, isn't it?"

"It is." You lean closer. "So I was wondering if Regis was alright."

"How should I know?" She shrugs. "I've been locked here for the last week."

"So if I were to ask you about the Tyrant's army disposition..." You lean in even closer.

"...I would tell you the same thing." She replies, slouching deeper into the soft couch.

You bring a hand to gently caress her leg, up to the inner thigh. She is cold to the touch, but pleasantly so. She winces defensively. "... You're so hot."

Offscreen, Tia mumbles affermatively while spectating the events.

"I need to know."

Clothes begin to come off as you feel Reken's cold skin coming in contact with yours. Burning it with frost, robbing it of the warmth of life.

[ESSENCE: 3/6]

Enough to kill a mortal many times over.

But, eventually, she ends up being satisfied, filled with the glow of live. Her body now feels entirely solid, covered in fresh, supple flesh, filled with blood and breath.

She pants and welps under your attentions. She might be done with you, but you're not done with her yet.

When you feel like she's ready, which is, quite a bit later, you finally let go of her.

"I need to know."

She doesn't reply, gasping for breath in a way a ghost shouldn't need to, but the look in her eyes is one of understanding and compliance.

"How can I save Tianna without a fight? I have no intention to committing to a war that I can avoid. If there is a way, I will pursue it. If you know, tell me." You give her your best grin. "If not..."

After a few minutes, when Rakan has regained the ability to talk coherently: "...I don't know what the Tyrant's aims for Tianna are, but I know she wants to avoid this fight as well."

"Why the army then?" You frown.

"...she believes she has no other choice. She... She also doesn't trust you."

"...doesn't trust me?" That sounds almost ironic.

"That you're someone who can be reasoned with. That you're committed. That you're determined enough. That you're looking for a way to avoid this battle as well. Give her a way out, and she will take it."

Looks like Reken doesn't know about the Titan. "...how? Are you suggesting that I go directly to talk to her?"

"...then we'll talk when I'll bring you over to exchange you for Regis." You inform her.

She gives a faint nod before flopping back down onto the sofa, as you stand back up and slip into your tunic.

Tia, who has been watching your interrogation with interest, stands back up and follows you outside.

"Are you going to do that?"

"I'll think of a way to make it work." You snap your fingers at e soldiers standing guard outside the room, who seem still a bit shocked by the noise they must have heard. "Prepare her for being released, and inform Amata. We're leaving as soon as Reken's ready, unless there's any trouble."

"Sorry?" A familiar voice draws your attention. You look down and see Millian, wearing her usual maid outfit with the addition of a few armored plates.

"...Millian?"

"You're going to get Regis?"

"Yes, but..."

"I'm coming too." She states, matter-of-factly.

"...Alright." You don't like this, not at all, but...

Look at her face. How can you say no to that face?

Besides, you owe it to Regis. Who knows what he was put through.

Your head full of doubts and suspicion, you meet Valeriana while wandering the castle's corridors waiting for the time of your departure.

She's standing in an intersection of two large corridors, where an impromptu repair station for the army equipment that's being brought back in from the boats has been set up. Piles of boxes, barrels and crates, complex mechanical parts splayed everywhere. An ordelry mayhem of heavy weaponry.

"...Hey, Maka." She barely lifts her eyes from the half-burnt husk of an Essence Cannon she's trying to restore, her Castemark glowing with authority. With one hand she's holding up a small notepad filled with writing in flowing, orderly calligraphy.

"Isn't that Irene's job?" You ask.

"I can't build these things, but I can help repair them at least." She gives you a better view of the notepad. It's definitely Irene's handwriting, instructions on the internal components of... something. "Irene's busy on the walls right now."

"I see." You mumble, absent-mindedly.

"By the way, I and Irene have finished working with cloth in the loot as well, and I was wondering if- ...Maka? Are you alright?" The Twilight asks, somehow sensing your worries.

Just wanted to remind everyone that Banish the Darkness, a fast-running charm, and a scene sent running all over the entire battlefield would probably destroy 90% of the Deathlord's forces. Alternatively, we could fly on Tia in a flying form and do the same.

We're a horrifying weapon of mass destruction against undead. Only Heroic and up are immune.
>>

>...No. Not really. (elaborate)

"...No, not really." You look away from her.

She gives a smile, puts the cannon she was working on down, sits up on the table (actually a pile of crates, but close enough) and says "Tell me everything."

"...I want to avoid this battle. Nothing good will come of it. People will die, no matter how well we fight. But the Tyrant will not back up unless she gets what she wants." You explain.

"Do we even know what she wants?"

You bite your tongue.

"...do you?"

"Yes."

"Alright." She seems to guess that it's something you don't want to talk about, and dances around the issue skillfully. "Umm... You're looking for advice?"

"I wouldn't turn it down."

"I have no idea." She proudly proclaims.

You're about to reply something like "thanks for nothing", but she continues:

"But I've heard the numbers we're against. In a fight, we'd probably lose."

"That's right."

"But they didn't attack yet."

"No. Apparently, the Tyrant wants to avoid a fight too."

"Why?"

You realize you can't think of a satisfying answer.

"Why do we have a Deathlord who doesn't want to kill people?"

You honestly have no idea. You just give a shrug in response.

"I think that's the key of the problem." She picks the half-burned cannon back up in her hands, and starts tinkering with it. "We can't win this conventionally."

"So we have to win non-conventionally?"

"We need an invention."

"An invention?" You ask.

"Not necessarily literally. Something new and unexpected. A new idea. Something unexpected."

That is a pretty good idea. We should get Lightning Speed charm today for that reason.

Also, last time I was not there, but I saw that the AST was tied with that charm that doubles sucesses per attack.

Quite frankly that charm is a horrible idea and I have do not see why people were voting for it at all. If it lasted a few turns at a time it would be be something, but a charm that costs 1 ess per attack would burn through our entire pool in a flash. It is worthless against Exalts since they would have perfect defenses and it is worthless against the mooks since we have banish the darkness (and we can get the Regiment Slaying Strike in Dawn.)

In comparison, two turns of invulnerability per 1 essence would be quite a bit more useful in battle.

Also, we should consider getting that charm that lets us roll to regain essence every time we lose hp. It would let us regain 0.5 essence per lost hp on average.

Also voting for far right middle row, since we're getting ready for a Deathlord and should look somewhat regal. Who, if guesses are correct, remembers what we were like in the First Age.

>>36699293
The closest to regal is middle top row. Most of those outfits are just wildly slutty and utterly inappropriate for anything formal.

You're absolutely right, but I didn't think it would get any votes so I wanted to hedge my bets. Also, far right middle gives me a Queen of Gem vibe. With us obviously looking to be from there, it might not come across as quite so slutty.

That's the majority out-of-character assumption. That the Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine is the ghost of Maka's First Age predecessor. It explains - if nothing else - why she knows where the Titan is. And, considering the revelation she had right before she died, also explains why she's so adamant on resolving this peacefully if possible.

"...Mhh. What to pick... Millian, what would you suggest?" You wonder, suddenly stuck with too many options to pick one comfortably. "This one is nice, but this other one... Ooh, this one too..."

"Eh, I like the red gown, miss Maka. It's classy and fits you well without showing an inappropriate amount of skin."

Tia sighs. "What do you know."

Millian crosses her arms. "What's your suggestion then, miss Tia?"

"How about smashfists and boots?"

"...What about the dress?"

"That IS the dress."

"NO IT ISN'T!"

Well, at least this took your mind off the abyssals for a few minutes and cheered you up. You thank Valeriana and wheel the cart, with maid and Lunar in tow, back to your rooms.

"Mh. I'll bring the one you suggested, Millian."

Tia falls to her knees, screaming "NOOOOOOO!" while the maid hels you out of your clothes and into the gown. It's based on the one you wore some time ago at your date with Irene, but the fabric is a lot lighter and softer, perfectly designed around your body.

"Just in case, bring some of the others over with you." You suggest to her. "so if they get suspicious, that's the excuse for your being there."

She nods, liking that idea, and, after packing up everything (including the broken pieces of Tia's heart), you go and collect Reken and leave, on a small wagon and with no escort, towards the Deathlord's airship.

+1 XP (bringing an olive branch to a deathlord)

We can switch it for costume 2 no harm done. I was just in a rush to get back home and didn't check.

As a bonus challenge, if anyone skilled in Photoshop can convincingly retouch any of those images (the originals, not the cropped and resized selection.jpg) to make it look like Maka (brown skin, white hair, golden eyes), it counts as a fan work for the +1 XP or the request.

Mob-Dispersing Rebuke (1 Ess. Say something threatening or make a show of strength, roll social + dawn. Unless a unit has a heroic leader who can beat your roll, the unit immediately routs and disperses.)
Shockwave Fist Technique (Permanent, every other Unarmed attack can be carried out at a range of [Dawn] meters)
Regiment-Slaying Strike (1 Ess. Allows you to atttack an entire crowd, mob or military unit at once.)

Essence-Gathering Temper (Permanent. Every time Maka loses a health level, roll 1d10. On a success, she regains 1 Essence. On a 10, two.)
Adamant Skin Technique (1 Ess. For 2 turns, all attacks inflict zero damage)
Horizon-to-Horizon Performance Method (Permanent. Everyone witnessing you, even indirectly (seeing a portrait of you, hearing your voice even from a recording, seeing a theatrical play about your adventures, etc) is automatically targeted by a unaugmented social attack, up to once a month)
Enemy-Castigating Solar Judgement (1 Ess. For one attack (physical or social) against a Creature of Darkness, all dice rolling 7+ are double successes)
Kiss of the Sun (1 Ess. Grants Awakened Essence to a Mortal. Can only have up to [Social] Mortals blessed by this charm at a time. Blessing cannot be withdrawn.)

Judge's Ear Technique (1 Ess, Scene. Can tell when a person lies knowingly)
Spirit-Discerning Glance (Permanent. Allows you to always see spirits, even when they are invisible or dematerialized)

Shadow Arts (1 Ess, add +3 to all stealth rolls for the scene.)
Lightning Speed (permanent, vastly improves your running speed)

Shining Ruler's Benevolence (1 Ess, Scene, add +3 to all politics or organizational rolls for the scene.)
Mastery of Small Manners (1 Ess, you learn the short-term objectives of people in the scene. Gives straightforward ideas, but does not reveal complex plans)

Also upon gaining a dot of Social we gain as many dots of backgrounds as the new score is, which means FIVE dots of backgrounds.

Plus our Social score is also our "social combat damage", EF said. Basically every time we attack someone in Social Combat, the base damage we do is our Social (+3 if we're seducing them thanks to our charm, +1 for every three extra successes. or two, I don't remember exactly.)

>I had to make a choice and limit myself to five and picked those five.
Ah right, so its still available in rotation to be picked. I was just worried that it had gone *poof*
>>
>>36700819
I'd say, wait for the moment.
>>
>>36700930

Most of the abyssal army is mindless udead, but we only need to persuade their commanders.

I'd like that one very much, but I think I'm alone this thread.
>>
>>36700930
For Kiss of the Sun, I assume if they like die or Exalt or something we get a free space open again?
>>
>>36700930
>No, only two.

I will now make it my mission to shout down anybody who votes to get ECSJ.

HtHPM is far more useful.

Hell, saving for Social 5 would be more useful.
>>
>>36700963
well its not that bad, it turns any non 10 success into a 10 essentially, and if we're rolling a lot of dice on something, then that is well worth 1 ess to supercharge whatever action we're doing
>>
>>36700985

Instead of doubling the number of successes, it now increases them by 60% instead. Its usefulness is almost cut in half.
>>
>>36700930
What's the maximum we can train someone with Tiger Warriors again?
>>
>>36700963
it gives us 0.8 successes per dice instead of 0.5.
That's 60% more successes
>>
>>36700985
You succeed on 7,8,9 and 10. Only applying on three of them is a big deal. 25% weaker than i expected.

And it's only for one action, not a scene. Which makes it less useful compared to scenelongs and permanents.
>>
>>36700839

With five background dots, we could get a level 5 artifact.
>>
>>36701021
How much would Social 5 boost us?
>>
>>36700963
>HtHPM is far more useful.
well they are both kind of underwhelming with one being only 60% more successes, and the other only being once a month auto social attack
>>
>>36700819
>Adamant Skin Technique (1 Ess. For 2 turns, all attacks inflict zero damage)
I think we're pretty much settled on this maybe, but don't know about the rest of the XP
>>
>>36701051

Five background dots that we can spend freely, +1 to social damage and one dice added to our pool. Not to mention we will get an appearance upgrade to godlike levels.

Depending on what we get for the background points we spend, it could be gamechaning to decent.
>>
>>36700819
>Adamant Skin Technique (1 Ess. For 2 turns, all attacks inflict zero damage)
>Enemy-Castigating Solar Judgement (1 Ess. For one attack (physical or social) against a Creature of Darkness, all dice rolling 7+ are double successes)

>>36701051
>>36701094
Guys.

Mentor 5 (THE UCS)

Artifacts can bugger off.
>>
>>36701051
We'd go from rolling 12 dice (Social+Zenith+3dice from dice adders) to rolling 13
that means we go from average 6 successes to 6.5 successes, so 8% more successes.
If we want to maximize our ability to convince the Tyrant, Enemy-Castigating Solar Judgement is far superior.
>>
>>36701094
>Five background dots that we can spend freely
When we get Social 5 we should put a couple dots in artifacts so our Gauntlets and Boots aren't just damage adders.

>>36701114
Even in the first age with legendary backgrounds you couldn't have an Incarnae as a mentor.
>>
>>36701124
man imagine 60% more successes on 12 dice...
>>
>>36701114
>Mentor 5 (THE UCS)

>>
>>36701135
>When we get Social 5 we should put a couple dots in artifacts so our Gauntlets and Boots aren't just damage adders.
That sounds good. I'm an Exalted noob, so what exactly would artifacting our orichalcum fists and boots do?

I've been suggesting it since the revelation that Social dots can go to background dots.

>>

>>36701353

Its official, must be done
>>
>>36701418
We'd get even more of a direct line to Sol.

That's not really quantifiable, since we're not sure how EF plays Sol.

But so far, if we pay xp for something, we generally get good use out of it. I doubt this would be a trap option. That and EF said something about preferring a more proactive UCS in his games.
>>
>>36701430

We are kind of covered with AiRS for now regarding defence. If we did not get it two threads ago I would be in favor of AST too.

...Also if we need it right at that very moment, we could always get AST with the XP we were banking (though we should check that with EF just to make sure.)
>>
>>36701514
alright well how much does social 5 cost?
>>
>>36701504
I don't do trap options. You always get your worth in XP for the stuff you buy. If you feel like you aren't, tell me and I'll fix it.

>>36701514
I'd allow that.
>>
>>36701504
I doubt anything EF has offered us has been a trap option, it doesn't seem like it's his style to mess with us for something like that.
>>
>>36701489
My idea was to pick up the background and have it coincide with the completion and consecration of the Pearl temple manse.

Big ceremony, much dancing, then the Sun personally coming down to bless the temple.

Maybe with lewds.
>>
>>36700930
>>36700897
If I remember corectly we can still buy Charms of older iterations that weere in previous threads but annons be lazy.

That means that if we wanted we could buy Sea Wolf Style, even though it is not here presently since it was in the charm library, but Sea Wolf Style was not relevant in this episode so it was not mentioned again.

So yea we might get Final Ray of Light if it gets voted.

But right nowe we should go for the max needed social output to go into social fu mortal kombat with a effing Deathlord.
>>
>>36701547
>I'd allow that.
Okay, then in that case i'm all for saving the XP and spending it for AST if we really need it.
>>
>>36701547
Like i said, 'I DOUBT it would be a trap'

>>
>>36701641
It would be more dramatic to get it during a big badass final confrontation moment against Tyrant.
>>
>>36701657
Well we didn't get our Artifact stuff until a while after we put dots into it. We also put some into Cult and Familiar if I'm not mistaken, I guess Cult hasn't been too noticeable since it was a one dot upgrade and we haven't been with Silk very long to notice a difference there
>>
>>36701353

That doesn't seem like a good idea. How would that even work?

Having the UCS himself avaiable and ready for Maka makes it seem easy mode. The guidance he has given has been more than enough and thematically in line with the praying scheme.

I really don't want Social 5. For where we are right now in-character, I don't think +1 die, +1 social damage, and +5 Background points is worth it. It could be worth it if we returned to peace time, mind you. But as it stands, I'd much rather spend that XP on charms.

For context, for the cost of Social 5, we could get 2 Dawn charms or 2.5 Zenith charms. At this current point in time, I think the charms would benefit us a lot more.

So, I'm against saving for Social 5. I'm not going to keep whining about it, I just wanted to make my opinion known while discussion is still happening.
>>
>>36701704
>we haven't been with Silk very long to notice a difference there
we really need to fix that and go see our pet

could we get Five-Tails to go and bring her back in a couple hours?
>>
>>36701704

The cult is too new right now.
>>
>>36701746
Same, I think we should get a charm or two now to vastly improve our abilities in the short term to ensure we can peacefully get what we need for Social 5 later
>>
>>36701684
Or after we peacefully negotiate shit between us, he comes down and speaks with the both of us.
>>
>>36700806
ALL HAIL THE ALMIGHTY UTERUS!
>>
>>36701746
>>36701773
So a compromise like one anon proposed earlier of buying AST and banking the rest?
>>
>>36702425
EF is letting us buy AST on the spot if we end up needing it so we can bank all 16 points.
>>
>>36702425
Sure, I suppose. I'd rather just purchase two charms outright. We can afford two entire Zenith charms right now. For the cost of Social 5, we could get AST AND Horizon-to-Horizon Performance Method, for example.

Or Adamant Skin Technique AND Enemy-Castigating Solar Judgement.

Or Adamant Skin Technique AND Kiss of the Sun.

We just have way too many good (great) charms to buy right now to be banking XP for an option that - in terms of opportunity cost - costs us 2.5 Zenith 5 charms.

I don't want to start saving for Social 5 until such a time as the Abyssals/Deathlord are no longer a concern.
>>
>>36702480
Ah, I see the post now. Awesome! Thanks, EF.
>>
>>36702480
Yeah that sounds like a good plan, see if we need it and if so buy it on the spot, if not keep the banked XP and try for Soc 5 afterwards
>>
>>36702517
>Or Adamant Skin Technique AND Enemy-Castigating Solar Judgement.
I did too actually, but Soc 5 picked up a lot of speed after EF okayed getting UCS as a mentor, which I do think is super cool, but I really wanted those charms right now
>>
Doubled successes when we're about to go up against a Deathlord would be very useful.
