Let's get it on!
>>
>>36611634
Yo Sage I deeply need to talk Wulin shop with someone who knows their shit

You have like, a Skype or somethin'
>>
>>36611634
So. How long did we spend learning carefree saber? It seems like it was just a single afternoon, is that right? If yes we're pretty damn boss, even if they are similar styles.
>>
>>36611932
No, but start a General on the front page and I'll be there. Last time someone did that it went on for like, three hours.
Willing to bet a lot of people on this quest right now were there.
>>36612061
Yes, a single afternoon. Sky's high intelligence helps him pick up new styles quickly.
>>36611634

You find your way back to the main hall, where nobody seems to notice you come in, except for Brother Genshu, who walks over to you.

At first think it's too hot in here, before you realize you're actually SWEATING a little.
"Shit...," you mutter under your breath, trying to shake the overwhelming sensation of your sudden visitor's presence off.

You take it back; the tiger was less scary then him.

"Hero Sky! I wondered where you were. Yuan Shanli is about to...are you alright?" he says, noticing your distress.

"Yeah...yeah I'm good," you say, shaking your hair and walking back with him to the center of the hall.

Genshu rejoins the Shaolin Sect, and everyone else ceases mingling (or brooding alone, or whatever it is Qiang and Jian are doing), and rejoins their cliques, except you who stand alone, leaning back on your elbows on the table where the food is placed.

Yuan Shanli stands on the top of a staircase, and his voice is raised to be heard.

"Young Xia! Now that the final preparations are set, the rules of the finals will be stated; as before in tournaments such as this, any contestant may fight any other contestant of their choosing, so long as the contestant agrees. A win in the match disqualifies no one; contestants may continue to fight in matches until they no longer desire to or feel physically unable to! Choose among yourselves whom your first opponents are, and then we shall arrange your battles!"

"Dibs on Qiang," you say loudly.
>>
>>36612061
One standard training montage.

Never underestimate how much you can get done in that period.
>>
>>36612087
>"Dibs on Qiang," you say loudly
I found this funnier than I should.
>>
>>36612110
I feel you anon
>>
>>36612087
Wait so how is this scored?
By points?
Most wins, wins?
So like, win is a point
draw is half and lose is 0?
>>
>>36612132
Last xia standing?
>>
>>36612087
I lol'd.
Since we can learn styles up to lesser expert level in a single afternoon how do we stack up against Ai Zhu?
>>
>>36612132
Probably last one standing.
>>
>>36612087
>>36612160
Or rather her famed learning ability
>>
>>36612160
Carefree Saber is a comparatively simple style, though. It's not the best gauge of how quickly we learn.
>>
>>36612132
Last one standing
>>
>>36612188
>>36612174
>>36612156
>last one standing
Oh shit, okay this is going to be fucked up.
We're going to need lots of cows
>>
when we do fight qiang i dont think TTIP is going to work on him; he seems like a strong body type fighter (can take hits and give them back) so i say yin yang rotation
>>
>>36612210
The instant movement can be used for other things though
>>
>>36612132

Wrong kind of tournament.

This isn't a formalized sporting event; it's about seeing who can beat who in a no-holds-barred contest of martial skill, one-on-one.
If nobody fights everybody, then the matter isn't truly settled, so everyone fights people until they can't or when they loose interest in fighting anyone else.

In other words, you beat Qiang, if he's still ABLE to fight afterwords and he wants to, then he can.

Rankings will then be determined by who got the most number of definite victories, down to the one who lost most
>>
>>36612221
>Rankings will then be determined by who got the most number of definite victories, down to the one who lost most
But that is essentially what I said.
Everybody fights everybody if possible and they score based on victories...
>>
Agreed, but I feel we should hold off using it, unless we have a opening or have to. We want to disable him in the first fight.
>>
>>36612221

how long is this supposed to go on for? Is it timed at all or can we take a day between each fight if we wished to?
>>
>>36612221

This is one of the reasons the friendly tournament isn't very friendly at all; unscrupulous xia, knowing that they lengthen their chances of being ranked highly by injuring their opponents badly, don't hold back much, if at all.
>>36612241
Apologies then.
>>
>>36612210
Start slow combat wise anyway
>>
>>36612248
Are deaths common?
>>
>>36612221
I wonder what ostentatious title they plan to bestow upon the most victorious Xia? 20 silver Taels on it involving "Greatest", "Heaven", "Phoenix" or "Dragon".
>>
>>36612248
I knew fighting Badass McMurderrape was a bad idea, but oh well. I bet Iron Palm has all kinds of cool things we can pick up if we survive.
>>
>>36612281
Tiger might be in there too.
>>
>>36612281
Number One Hero of the Generation, probably. That's what this fight is, the Top Ten Young Heroes Tournament.
>>
>>36612282
Lightning vs iron my guess his style is heavy hitting and hard blocking but not that fast(comparatively) Use it.
>>
>>36612185
I know, but IRL I do a lot martial arts and there is no way in hell I could pick up a style's basics in a single afternoon, let alone be considered an expert on it. That's why I was asking about how we stacked up against Ai.
>>
>>36612160
>>36612184
And to answer your question, you have no idea.
>>36612272
You're not sure, but from the description you've been given; deaths no, but serious injuries that might cripple or maim, then yes sometimes.
>>36612281
That's simple;
>Top Ten Young Hero: #1
>>
Hey Sage, do you have plans for the future once this awesome Quest is over?

A sequel, spinoff or something?

Maybe one of these settings in present time where the Wulin Society is just a bunch of old embittered people left behind by technology.
Those are always fun

>>36612087
We're starting with the most potentially dangerous opponent.
We know Iron Palm will fight to "kill"(is killing allowed in this tournament)
>>
>>36612281
Greatest Young Hero.
>>
>>36612281
Greatest Ascending Dragon
>>
>>36612303
This is Wuxia. Iron Body tends to mean just that - this is a guy who can headbutt a cannonball.

In mid-flight.

DON'T GET HIT.
>>
>>36612309
>And to answer your question, you have no idea.
Fair enough.
>>
>>36612282
I wouldn't be surprised if they had a Ki Wave attack of some sort. I'm basically just using the sect from Condor Heroes as my general expectation.
>>
>>36612311
>Hey Sage, do you have plans for the future once this awesome Quest is over?
God, we are so far from that point right now you have no idea. I'll think about it if we get like, even halfway done.
>>36612331
The Iron Palm Sect is a definite reference to that, yes. Including the young chief's name.
>>
>>36612379
How far off we are for the endgame?
I remember vaguely you saying that you didn't want this quest to take too much time
>>
>>36612399
Probs like 2% done, eh:.
>>
Hopefully not until we find a way to call Dugu Quibai from beyond the grave and beat him in a duel.
>>
>>36612379
By the way thanks for recommending that. I marathoned it after this quest started and you provided a link. Good stuff. Return of the Condor Heroes though... eh.
>>
>>36612281
>20 silver Taels on it involving "Greatest", "Heaven", "Phoenix" or "Dragon".
The great dragon of heavenly phoenix?
>>
>>36612469
Meh, I still like it. The adaption just before the most recent wasn't the best though, yeah.
Go checkout Swordsman, it's the shit.
>>36612399
I'll let you know when you actually get to the end of my synopsis for the first of the novel series, each of which has it's own title:
>Catching Lightning
>Breaking Earth
>Striking Metal
>Shifting Water
>Burning Wood

Now no more questions, I gotta post proper, heh.
>>
>>36612558
>>Burning Wood
Caught a mistake here mate, you mean Identifying
>>
>>36612422
Personally, I like to think that Dugu isn't dead. Oh, he was, he definitely committed suicide. But then he found that not even Ox-Head and Horse-Face, the demon guardians of the underworld, were a worthy challenge to his skills. So he beat them up, escaped to the living world, and now spends his days meditating in the mountains pursuing Daoist immortality. Because then he'd be able to visit Heaven, and maybe the war god Erlang Shen would be able to give him a proper fight.
>>
>>36612688
>MFW I actually understood most of that

Thank you, Kylie Chan, you weird-ass Australian.
>>
>>36612688
>Dugu Qiubai died.
>Then his Sword transcended death.
>He was not pleased.
>>36612087

As you say it, the crowd gasps and mutters at your bold claiming of the most ruthless xia there as your opponent first.

"I accept Hero Sky's challenge," Qiu Qiang shouts back, not even looking at you.

"Very well!" Yuan Shanli agrees. "Tomorrow after resting the announcements of whom fights first shall begin! Sleep well xia!"

Genshu, and Ao Zhuzheng move up to you first.

"Lord Sky, are you mad?!" the Dragon Princess says, clearly worried.

"Okay, I know I'm usually the one cracking jokes but are you serious about this?" Genshu says, no less concerned.

He is probably the best opponent to use Traversing the Instant path and Yin Yang Rotation on since he probably won't be killed by that combo. If he can defend against it that's going to be scary.
>>

>>
>>36612926
I feel we will have to do some improvaizen against him.
>>
>>36612948
Our name isn't Sousuke though.
>>
>>36612827
It does make a form of sense, since we had to fight him anyways, we will at least be the least injured and most fresh when doing so
>>
>>36612997
And we haven't shown all we could do in the preliminary.
>>
I vote for whatever option is no fucks given.
>>
>>36613039
Yeah. I wonder what the limits to Genshu's distance erasure is. Is it comparable to Form 2 in speed or is a lightning bolt still faster? It would be neat if we could figure out the theory behind it at the least.
>>
>>36612827
>"I've got this." [Reassure]
I sort of held back in our spar Genshu.
>>
>>36612827
>"No choice now." [Casual]

Confident Sky is, arrogant he is not.
>>
>>36613093
He keeps showing us it. Hopefully we will understand it someday.
>>
>>36613197
Thats just his Monk sense.

He knows where Sky is going to end up and he carefully position himselfs everytime for maximum surprise
>>
>>36613093
As far as you can tell, it wasn't a special technique; he was just really, really fast when he stopped fucking around.
>>36613208
This is pretty much spot-on. Remember, he only did it after he figured out how Sky fought.
>>36612827

"It's done," you say flatly with a shrug.

"But Lord Sky, for your first foe to be the most dangerous one is-" Zhuzheng begins but you cut her off with a raised hand, shaking your head.

"No different then what I'd fight if I challenged him later, only now I'm not going to be wounded. He won't hold back, which means I won't need to either. Either I was always strong enough to beat him, or I was always going to die fighting him. It's just that simple." you explain, your voice totally calm.

You're in that point your father spoke of;

>"When conflict becomes inevitable, embrace it. Fear it's start if you must, fear it starting again if you've no other choice, but once it begin and becomes fated, KILL your fear. The Lightning has no fear.

>"Also, if you spill that water on the way up the mountain one more time I swear to god I'm going to kick your ass so hard people will think you're the Monkey King trying to out-jump Buddah."

You wince at the latter half of that memory.

"I did spill the water again too...," you mumble.

"What?" Zhuzheng asks, confused.

"Never mind."
>>
>>36613253
But did the Monkey King jump?
>>

>>
>>36613253

"Lord Sky, your confidence humbles me!" Ao Zhuzheng admits with a bow. "Truly my Lord Sky is as courageous as he is gallant and noble!"

When she comes up from the bow, her face is blushing slightly, and her eyes sparkling with delight.
You realize she's been calling you "her" Lord Sky since you came in here earlier tonight.

"Genshu," you say, turning towards him, deciding against correct Zhengzhu; you're pretty sure she won't listen anyway. "What can you tell me about Iron Palm Sect's martial arts styles?"

He thinks on it before answering.
"It's internal arts are extremely simple; while all styles use qi to improve the body's power and functions, Iron Palm Sect focuses almost entirely upon improving muscles, bones, and tendons rather then fancier internal techniques," he begins.

"You mean like Body Hardening skills that render body parts of xia invulnerable to harm through qi meridian manipulations?" you ask.

"Not exactly," he says, shaking his head. "Body Hardening skills have a weakness."

"The Shatterpoint, I know; though the body is made impervious by altering qi flow throughout the body upon use, Body Hardening techniques can be broken if you strike a specific meridian that disrupts then hardening as it happens, which renders the entire technique completely useless and makes the xia helpless until he can recover."

It's also why your father never taught you Body Hardening techniques; he claimed relying on a single weapon no matter how effective or refined was foolish, because breaking it left you helpless.

"So what's the difference?"

"Iron Palm's Internal Arts strengthen the body in a natural fashion, it becomes tougher, stronger, harder to hurt. A blade will cut, but is more likely to get stuck or not cut deep, bones will bruise but not break, and they become highly resistant to pain and injury even as they expend more qi keeping their bodies functional."
>>
>>36614174
Toad Style has a fatal weakpoint
>>
>>36614174

"Great....so he'll be even stronger then a normal xia, and he'll be impervious to pain," you mumble. You mind begins racing; there's ways to use that though, if you're clever.

"How the hell do you find if you're at new levels of accomplishment with a technique like that? How would you know if you've gotten better? What's the training like?"

"You're beaten and struck for hours on end," he says simply. "If you live, you pass."

Suddenly Qiu Qiang's attitude makes a lot more sense to you.

"What about external arts? What are they like?" you ask, scratching your chin in thought.

"That I am unsure of. While the Iron Palm Sect's brutal training methods are famous, their external arts are not, so I can't be certain what styles they do or do not have. I guess you'll get to explore new horizons for us both!" he says cheerily.

"Great. I feel lucky," you respond without amusement.

"Sky, the contestants are confined to Yuan Manor, but their sect allies are not. I could tell one of my brothers to deliver a message to you to Zhu'er and Duan Lei?"

"Nuh-uh, my men are delivering Sky's message!" Ao Zhuzheng says, suddenly childish again.

Oh, I know he doesn't care. But this is a nice way to decline Zhuzheng's request while not insulting her. We're looking out for her reputation, not snubbing her. Yeah, that's totally what it is, not fear of her incredibly enthusiastic crush on us.

"Thanks Genshu. It works even better since your monks a neutral party, not competing in the competition," you say with a smile. He's pretty helpful sometimes when he's not annoying the hell out of you.

"But Lord Skyyyyy!" Zhuzheng says, pouting like a child.

"No way Zhuzheng. I don't trust these Yuan Clan guys one damn bit, and your pirates and guards are battle-hardened and armed fighters, so they can back us up if shit goes down. Genshu's Shaolin brothers are good fighters, but they shouldn't be involved in this any more then they have to, since they're a neutral party. Plus, I'd worry about you if it was just you, no matter how strong you are; there's a LOT more Yuan Clan then just us fighting alongside each other," you explain.

"My...Lord Sky is worried for my safety then?" she says, clearly ecstatic to hear it. Then she calms down and she's the Dragon Princess again. "Your suggestion has great merit Lord Sky. I shall order my men to stand guard and be ready for trouble!"

She dashes off to inform her men of the plan.

"That shows a surprising amount of foresight on your part, Hero Sky. I am impressed," Genshu admits.

"Yeah, I MIGHT have left out the part where there's half a chance Zhu'er might flip out and kill her guards if she finds out I'm here with Zhengzhu. They REALLY don't like each other for some reason...," you explain with a sigh.

"I know. That was what I was referring to," he says with a smile. "Amitābha, Hero Sky. I shall tell my brothers of this arrangement."

It is and he does. It's his style name; Brother "Heartbreaker" Genshu of the Shaolin Sect.
Also known as Subtle Sex Devil Genshu.
>>36614987

You shake your head at the monk's remark, smiling as he leaves, chanting the Lotus Sutra.

You head to where your rooms are supposed to be located, and find yourself in a lavishly decorated bedroom that seems even nicer then the wealthy inn you were staying at, shaking your head at the opulence.

"I might get a better rest if I slept on the damn floor...," you mumble, removing your sword from your back and keeping it in hand as you plop down onto your bed and close your eyes.

Sleep eludes you at first, so you begin practicing Heaven's Blessings until you're too tired to continue; you want to be in peak form tomorrow, and if you train hard enough you might be able to gain a slight edge.

>>
>>36615419

You wake up in the morning, completely refreshed and even excited for the fight ahead, dressing quickly and getting a brief breakfast; it's not good to fight on a full stomach!

You meet up with Brother Genshu (your message, written last night arrived safely) and Ao Zhuzheng, traveling outside to the lèi tái platform in the Center of Chendu, where already a crowd has gathered and is cheering.

Once again, Yuan Shanli amplifies his voice with his internal energy and makes his speech:

>"PEOPLE OF SICHUAN, CITIZENS OF CHENGDU, XIA OF THE JIANGHU! TODAY WE CELEBRATE THE MIGHTIEST AND MOST GLORIOUS OF OUR YOUNG HEROES!
>"THE ANCIENT WAYS, TRIAL BY COMBAT, SHALL DECIDE WHICH AMONG THEM IS THE GREATEST AND MOST WORTHY OF THEM, AND HOW THEY SHALL PLACE IN THE TOP TEN!
>TO BEGIN THE MATCHES TODAY FOR YOUR PLEASURE FIGHTING IS THE MYSTERIOUS TIANKONG, CALLED SKY, WHO'S SKILL BELONGS TO NO SECT OR FACTION! HE SHALL BE FIGHTING THE MIGHTY QIU QIANG, YOUNG CHIEF OF THE IRON PALM SECT!"

"Why am I not surprised?" you mutter as the crowd looses it's mind.

>"XIA! STEP ONTO THE LEI TAI!"

You hop up to the 4-foot high platform in a single leap and you turn, robe and hair blowing in the wind, to spot Duan Lei and Zhu'er, nodding to them with a grin.

"Princess!" you call behind you taking out her hairpin from your belt and tossing it to her without looking behind you, and you somehow know she catches it without seeing it happen.

"Hold onto that. I'm gonna want it back later," you say simply, walking towards the center of the arena.

"I'm cool with that," you agree.
Because honestly, you don't want to give this guy access to MORE ways to kill your ass.

You slide into a stance, and Qiang mirrors the action with one of his own.

>>
>>36616148
If we die in an instant we would never make it anyway. We need to play our strenght
>>
>>36616002
>Move up, start your offensive!
Start by testing his durability. We'll get a better sense of how much force we need to hurt him. Also, if we can get him thinking our blows are useless, hitting him with Yin-Yang Rotation will be a nasty surprise. I'm not sure his Iron Body technique can protect against electricity. Might as well let him think blocking is better than dodging.
>>
Man and this is a golden opportunity for a surprise attack via form 2. Once people know we can use lightning it won't be nearly as effective. But if we aren't capitalizing on an instantaneous surprise attack I'll switch my vote >>36616028 to

>>36616002

Lightning interrupts his breathing, which interrupts his qi, which means he won't be able to use his own internal stuff.

We're basically made to destroy xia.
>>
Narratively, trump cards you pull out to save your ass work better than tools you use as a matter of course.
>>
>>36616214
He is still expecting a attack right now. It wold be more effective to disrupt his rythm later. We are aiming for a winning strike.
>>
>>36616256
Huh. I never made that connection.
>>
>>36616266
there's also the fact that Sky's external arts are literally directly improved by fighting more people and styles, not just in the way things normally improve through practice, making the use of his forms a loss of a learning opportunity.
>>
>>36616148
1) he is the toughest opponenet
2) our stated reason for being here is to show off our ability and hope someone recognizes it and approaches us

>>
>>36616146
that is an interesting point. can we not use form 2 to put distance between us and super dodge?

that being said, with his superhuman enhancements he might be the exception to "the longer it lasts the better off sky is"
>>
>>36616352
Anon, we are probably going to end up using our lightning fists, but right now we are testing the waters to see what we can learn. Plus, it is unsporting to start with our strongest moves.
>>
Hope it's not too late to say start with a punches and work up to special techniques later after we learn something from him....
>>
>>36616352
It's still important to use suprise to our advantage right now. It's the only fight we can do it. And if we might stop him from killing anyone.
>>
>>36616256
That...is a very good point. No wonder Ba described the style as being the "judgement of Heaven". He wasn't just being poetic, Heaven's Blessing is explicitly designed to disable and kill xia. It's what you'd use if you were trying to bring justice to a corrupt xia. That fits with him being so firm about the jianghu and secular world not intermixing. He's seen what horrible things can happen as a result, and even built his style around being able to stop it.
>>

Overthinking.jpg
>>
>>36616300
Based on the tutorial, the only real time it's viable as an attack is before an opponent is moving about. Using it the instant the match starts is its only real window of opportunity after that the opponent will be moving about and more likely to dodge if they're a skilled Xia.

>>36616408
Form 2 as a defense is less "Dodge" and more "GTFO" once we start we're on a straight path till we stop and it's too taxing to use too often. A good desperation move to get out of the way though and begin a full retreat.
>>
>>36616481
>Based on the tutorial, the only real time it's viable as an attack is before an opponent is moving about. Using it the instant the match starts is its only real window of opportunity after that the opponent will be moving about and more likely to dodge if they're a skilled Xia.
that is a good point. form 2 is a use it or lose it kinda thing.
>>
>>36616481
Eh, if we start getting our ass kicked we can Traverse away and then when he starts moving for us Yin-Yang him during his charge. Yeah, he'll be moving... but in a straight line toward us.
>>
>>36616430
And not to mention the "Strike without remorse" (or something like that) thing Sifu kept going on about. If Sky is to become an enforcer/executioner of xia, he has to be prepared for the fact that he might have to attack his friends.

>>36616451
Overthinking is fun
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVw7Wvt6cwc
Remember, while the longer Sky fights helps his external style adapt, the more he uses his Heaven's Blessings the more he exhausts his qi. He must strike a balance between these things, depending on his needs.
>>36616002

You both move in at the same time, the boards quaking as you bolt for each other!

Your speed is slightly greater then his, and your fist lands against his left-block first, and you manage to parry aside his right strike less then a second after you throw yours!
His punches are HEAVY like his bones are made out of lead!

You pull back slightly at the same time he does, his left punch knocked aside by your right kick as you suddenly switch to a leg form, and when your leg lands after the strike you pivot on it, turning into a reverse-kick that you put all your might into, slamming your foot right into his diaphragm, knocking him back!

You pivot back to face him, see he's still standing, and throw another right punch, which he catches aside with a RIGHT-handed palm slap before THRUSTING forward with his right shoulder immediately afterward, slamming to your chest!

You go flying back from the incredible impact force, head over heels through the air, catching yourself just barely and sliding along the platform over 8 feet away from where he struck you!

You hold onto your chest, trying to catch your breath as Qiang smirks, making a "come at me, fool" motion with his left hand.

I do agree I voted for the trumps, but we also need to choose the moment to act. We got hurt, but made him confident, getting more hurt will drain energy too. Attacking now while he is overconfident, and we are not badly hurt.
>>
We need to balance learning from him with minimizing our damage. When we bust out Heaven's Blessing it will ideally be before we've taken enough damage to weaken or slow our blows but after we've gotten him to use his own Internal Arts.

how about we learn from the people not trying to seriously injure or kill us? Pretty much every single other fighter here is friendly enough to keep from anything serious. Every other one. "Ow," you grunt, holding your ribs.
Just before impact you pushed back with Lightfoot, trying to dodge, but his blow still landed. It's why you went back so far; you were just slightly in mid-air when he hit you.

You realize if you HADN'T been in the air your braced legs would've caused you to catch the full impact of that shoulder thrust into the center of your torso.

You would've been killed instantly.

"Okay...faster then he looks, and he hits HARD...," you mutter. And he took that full-force back-kick to the guts without even flinching or slowing down.

He still stands, ready for your next move as you drown out the crowd.

You rush up again, kicking off with your Lightfoot, flying through the air and landing a heavy right kick which he blocks with his left arm! You spin as you fall to your feet, throwing a left kick in mid-spin as you land, which he blocks left, slowly advancing to strike again!

He throws a rapid series of punches, which you skate back away from, flowing lightly across the ground like a mist over water!

His final punch you duck low, past waist level, spinning upwards inside his reach into an overhead right hook!

And you...

>FOCUS!
>Center Yourself!
>Seperate the Yin and Yang!
>Feel the Force build!
>Direct to The Limb!

There is a sound like distant thunder, and cobalt flame and lighting flashes up your arm towards your fist as you throw the blow!

"Surprise, ASSHOLE!" you say just before the impact, and the sound of thunder rings out again as your fist connects with his just-barely raised blocking right!

"GYYYAAARGH!' he grunts in agony as he spasms, from shock and you take the initiative, striking his chin with a left jab, a right hook to his abdomen, then spinning into a turning mid-air kick right into his chest!
>>

The crowd is shocked into silence as Qiang is pushed back, and this time HE'S the one on one knee, clutching his chest!

You take up a defensive stance, and mimic his earlier movement with a smirk, using your right hand instead of your left like he did.

He breaths heavily, blood trickling down from his mouth and then does something you haven't seen him do yet; he smiles at you.

He then gets up and rushes you!

You leap back just as he leaps forward, right palm pulled back, and you realize your mistake almost the second before he shouts;

>"IRON PALM: AVALANCHE SHATTERING BLOW!"

You dodge JUST BARELY out of the way as he thrusts his right palm forward, and what seems like a DOZEN or so qi projectile in palm form fly out, scattering like an avalanche from a mountain, striking at all angles!

" Muscle and bone reinforcement only MY ASS!" you grumble as you leap away as one falls where you stood, exploding with the force of his actual palm strike upon the ground, and you are forced to weave and dodge out of the way of every strike, barely able to keep up a proper defense as each palm-double lands on the lei tai, causing splinters and planks to erupt upon impact!

"God DAMMIT!" you grunt as one goes right past you face, exploding just behind you as you stop and catch yourself before you fly into it!

Sawdust clouds cover your field of vision, and you cough, before it hits you.

"Wait...where's the real-?" you wonder, then his massive form explodes free of the sawdust cloud into a vicious palm strike!

>"IRON PALM! AVALANCHE CONCEALMENT!"

Lightning Flash-Step to his back, and kick him off the platform! Don't strike to wound; strike to PUSH.

Falling off the lei tai is a loss too.

After thinking for half a sec, maybe we should keep our guard up and then just sacrifice throw him.
He's bigger and heavier than us and has momentum. Let's make it work to our advantage.

>>
>>36617906
Actually, how high up would we go if we used Form 2 to ascend? Might be a good desperation move later on, especially if we grapple someone before hand.
>>
>>36617758
I'mma still say sacrifice throw him, assuming he's going for a physical assault and not crazy qi blasts at the moment.

If qi, use our superior mobility to find another angle of attack. Maybe work in the sawdust cloud somehow. No sense in -not- using the environment to our advantage, and if we can hoist him by his own petard all the better.
>>
>>36617758
So when do we get our projectile? Also, we need an anti-air uppercut.
>>

Didn't it say in the rules that the fight continues until either one of us gives up or can't fight?

I think he would just, you know, get back on the platform if we did that.

IIRC that means losing a match doesn't equal elimination. They can still fight more matches. Doesn't mean that every match is KO or nothing.

The crowd gasps in shock!

The sawdust cloud clears, and it shows the both of you: his palm is out-stretched, and you're inside his guard again, fist in his stomach, hard enough to stop a bull when added with his own momentum!

"Nice trick...but faking me out isn't going to work," you advise.

".....Noted!" he grunts and then moves DESPITE your deep-gut blow!

>"Jade Tiger Seals Diaphragm!"

"Shit!" you say as you pull back as he goes into an attack routine, which you barely block and dodge, as somehow he keeps moving!

"I though you learned ONCE," he says as you parry a right hook duck a left, and dodge a palm-thrust,"you should NEVER get within my reach!"

You throw a right hook, see him parry with his right hand again...and THIS time you see that shoulder-thrust coming!

You spin to the left as you go around it, pulling back an elbow blow as he moves past and you SLAM it right into the back of his neck with all the force you can muster with your full body weight behind it!

He staggers forward, and you spin to face his back as he falls onto one knee!
>>
>>36618028
[Izuna Drop Intensifies]
The trick is sealing their ability to mitigate the fall while retaining our ability to use Lightfoot style and bound away in time.
>>
>>36618033

You hold yourself for a second, catching your breath...and then he gets up, turning towards you, cracking his neck.

>"Jade Tiger Straightens Spine!"

he says, closing one nostril with his thumb and blowing blood out of the other with a short heave of his lungs!

You stare, mouth agape; that blow should've given him a major concussion, cracked his spine, even broken his neck, something, ANYTHING other then just...giving him a bloody nose!

Honestly, I don't know why everyone wanted to drag out a fight against pretty much the most ruthless fighter here.
If we're going to do some protracted fight, it'd behoove us to do some against someone who isn't liable to cripple us.

We need to put him down hard, rather than trying to keep trying to keep holding back in this fight, having a trick up your sleeve isn't helpful
l if that arm is lopped off.

It's the people who can't into math and keep thinking buying up stuff that gives tiny experience bonuses instead of real, actual power is worthwhile in rpgs.

Alternatively they just want to bad end the quest.
>>
>>36618319
Actually I'm just following Sage's advice not to bet everything on Yin Yang. The more reserves of Qi he has available the better he's able to resist/recover from our big attacks. We need to wear out his durability so he doesn't skull fuck us if we blow our load and he doesn't go down.
>>
>>36618363
He's been using a lot more chi than we have, though. We made a single use of Yin-Yang Rotation. He's healed himself, fired off dozens of chi blasts, and has had to resist every attack we hit him with. He should hopefully be running low enough that we can overwhelm him now.
>>
>>36618363
That said I still voted to try and take him down at this point. He's done a big barrage of attacks, and used a few abilities to unfuck himself so hopefully an all out attack will take him down.
>>
>>36618319
The longer we draw out a fight. The better we can fight against him.

>>Try something risky: test the limits of that resistance of his and the limits of your stamina! [Yin-Yang Rotation...three times in a row.]

Gotta risk it for the biscuit!
>>
The problem, as I see it, is we can't tell about his recovery techniques. Is it a flat rate "use it and you heal no matter how damaged" technique? Or does it only recover proportional to the amount of qi used?

One of these will let triple yin-yang win us the fight. The other will lose it for us.
>>
>>36618480
The only thing that caused significant damage to him was form one. Physical attacks have been shrugged off.

Which exactly follows what we know of the style. Continuing to try and drag this out is asking to die.
>>
>>36618480
Based on how this stuff usually goes its probably more "Fix a problem to the point you can keep fighting. Once your Qi is withdrawn however prepare your anus grasshopper because all that damage is still fucking there."

My bet is it's less healing and more reinforcing the damaged areas with Ki to make them function as if he healed himself and tuning out the pain through mental resilience.

You begin to carefully circle each other, as you look for weaknesses, and even find some as he external style's flaws become slightly more evident over time.

The problem is that despite this flaws his resistance to pain and injury make him next to impossible to put down. Hitting him is like punching a bag filled with iron sand; he absorbs the impact, deforms, slightly, then bounces back as good as new. He's hurt yes, but it neither hampers him nor does he feel it

You're not wearing him down with this stuff at ALL.

Only one of your attacks seemed to have anything like a visible effect.

"Okay...let's see how many you can take before you fall down!" you cry, leaping at him at the same time he leaps at you, him wearing a bloody grin on his face, as if he's actually ENJOYING all this!

You run through the meditative state, throwing a punch like a thunder bolt, smashing against his left block and sending him grunting in lighting-infused agony again as you follow up with a rising uppercut to his chin, still crackling with lightning as you push yourself to incredible new limits and spin after the uppercut into a final stomach punch, lightning striking once, twice, THRICE onto his body and sending him flying back onto the other side of the lei tai!

You feel EXHAUSTED, having pushed yourself father with that then you've ever done before, and the crowd is amazed, cheering.
You can barely hear it you're so damn tired from all this running around.

And then he gets up.

"You've got to me fucking KIDDING ME!" you say under your breath as he chuckles, gets up, still sporting that wild-eyed bloody grin.

"Is that...the best you have?"

How much have we honestly got left in us?

There's got to be some weakness to this... Some kind of vulnerability...

I wish we had an option to go defensive and find that opening, but sadly, we're kind of spent. All-or-nothing time. We gave it our best shot, mind you.
>>
>>36618940
>Some kind of vulnerability...
We could go for a electrified blow to head or chest, specifically aimed to hurt the internals in order to hurt the brain or heart.
>>
>>36618959
After all that yin-yang rotation? I don't think we have another thunder-punch in us...
>>
If this was real kung fu, I'd say that a lot of his resilience comes from superior 'rooting' techniques. I've practiced Shaolin Iron Shirt and White Crane Three Battles form (both 'hard' qigong exercises for training to absorb damage; Three Battles is also known to Kyokushin practitioners as sanchin kata, and look at how much punishment the Kyokushin guys can absorb!), and a major part of all of that is planting one's feet firmly.

You're literally training your muscles to redirect the impact of blows into the ground instead of into your vitals.

Let's see how good Qiu Qiang is in the air. Use Lightfoot, throw him, get him out of the ring.

Think of him as Antaeus. His hard kung fu is based on absorbing damage: by damaging him we're playing into his hands (or palms or whatever). We need a better strategy.

Whoever said throw him out of the ring was right.
>>
>>36618972

>>36619579
I'm not sure our knee is harder than his torso, though. I'm also not comfortable scrapping with him at clinch range: those palm-strikes would *destroy* us.

Some kind of grappling might be in order if we could get behind him, though. Hold him down and shock him like he's a student at the University of Florida.
>>
>>36619594

Its just with more qi yea? if you grab the other dude shoulder and start pounding their midsection they will lose balance unless they are used to this kind of grapple-striking combo
>>
>>36619596

Hm yes, a german supplex charged with electring qi will fuck him up, or standard joint strikes imbued with qi will make him lose his balance -IF- he really do the earth-clutching stance.

>>36619604
We are talking about a guy who trains by standing there and taking hits. I doubt we can bring him down with normal hits, be it knee or fist or something else. Well, we probably could, if for some reason he decided to stand there and take 10 knee strikes from us but I doubt he will and if we try that we'll just get our head caved in. We need something else, we can't win against this guy with "hit hard till he drops" tactic.
>>
>>36619696
I'd like to stress that, if this is based on the Iron Body technique in Wulin (or any of its inspirations) Genshu was being a bit conservative.

Joint strikes are usually for building gradual damage and limiting opponent's movement, building up to a win. We don't have that much time. We can try a strike to the elbow to drop his guard and aim for his head i guess.
