You consider your options for stabling the camels. You could find an inn, but that would be risky and you'd need to keep Zahak a secret. Your family's estate in the Noble's District has a set of stables that would fit your camels and carriage, but then you'd need to face your family in your current state. You're not sure that's wise. You contact Darzi via the brooches. {You know the way to the Grand Library, yes?}

She responds after a moment's pause. {I think I remember the way, but not from the North Gate. If I can find my way to the markets I can get make it from there.}

{Well, I'll leave navigation in your hands-} The Grand Library is the largest building in the entire city, with minarets taller even than the towers of the Shah's Palace. If she can't navigate her way to the Grand Library you fear she might be blind. {-but alert me when we reach the Vatis' District. We'll be staying with my old Master for the duration of our stay. It's free and convenient, even if we will have to put up with the old madman.}

A few moments later the carriage is jostled by a sudden turn which nearly sends Zahak falling off the table. He hisses loudly and quickly gets down onto the seats once the carriage has resumed its initial rumbling pace. From there he slips down to the floor and curls up on the ground near your feet. Due to his size, he takes up most of the space beneath the table and you find your feet rather squished. You dread to think how much larger he's going to get and how fast he seems to be growing. Soon he won't even be able to fit in the carriage, at this rate.

You make light conversation throughout the journey, but frankly you're still a bit out of it. You're exhausted, and your head hurts, and your chest is killing you. You're just sort of miserable, though you do feel better than you did when you first woke up. After what seems like an age, you finally hear Darzi's voice filter through the brooches. {We're in the Vatis' District. Where is your Master's home again?}

You hoist yourself to your feet and pick your way over to the cabin door, excusing yourself from the idle chit-chat to go help Darzi and Chrys find your Master's home. You pull the door open only a crack and slip outside, shutting it firmly behind you. Keeping a tight grip on the various chains that line the side of the carriage, you carefully scale up to the driver's bench. Chrys scoots over to make room for you.

The Grand Library looms ahead of you, the massive dome of its central building casting a shadow over the entirety of the Vatis' District. Merchants clog the edges of the streets, hawking their wares to passers-by. However, unlike in the low districts the streets are wide and well maintained, the merchants do not impede travel in the slightest. Most of the goods seem to be of particularly high quality, and many were likely made by Vatis trying to make a little money on the side.

Many of the houses on this main thoroughfare have towers and minarets themselves, in imitation of the Grand Library. Your master's is a veritable fortress, four stories tall and made all of stone. You hear music drifting from the second story balcony, and a number of porters mill about carrying crates or boxes this way and that. The Overpaths, a network of walkways connecting the homes of various powerful Vatis so they and their apprentices need not touch the ground, are unusually busy this day. You see a dozen or more apprentices rushing this way and that.

You have Darzi guide the carriage to the empty stables in the side of the house. She stops just outside when a servant steps forward with his hands out. He calls up to you, frustrated. “What is this?! What right have you to approach the home of a Grandmaster?! State your business, Grandmaster Karim has no need for pointless visits!”

You open your mouth to respond, but a voice calls down from the balcony. “Quit flappin' your gods damned lips and stable their camels, you useless shit! Gods above, I told you an hour ago that Mik was coming to visit! Don't you recognize the lad?”

The servant whips his head upward, towards the balcony the voice came from, then turns his attention back to you and your party. He eyes you warily for a moment, rubbing his chin. “Gods above, Mikhael. You got rid of your scar. That's a high crime, you know. Punishable by death. I thought the Master was merely tormenting me as he usually does, but you're really here.”

You grin. “It is good to see you as well, Shankar. How has work for Master Karim treated you these past months while I have been absent? I do not recall seeing you here upon my previous visit.”

Shankar Mataraci is a large man, even by Samjan standards, in addition to being broad shouldered and powerfully built. He is the head of your old Master's household, managing his finances as well as procuring whatever it is your master might need. In his younger days, your Master says he was the Royal Cartographer. Supposedly he's traveled all across Pidjata, both within the Shahdom and the Samrajya, as well as extensively across the Pa'vala. He has a thick beard with only wisps of color remaining, and a wizened face. You don't know his exact age, but it's somewhere around four or five hundred years. Of that you can be certain.

Shankar sighs deeply at your question regarding his work. “Difficult. Your Master has sent me on all number of useless errands to discover nonexistent artifacts in imaginary places. I fear soon I'll need to put the old bastard down.”

Your master shouts from the balcony. “Hah! I'd like to see you try, you old fool! You couldn't kill me drunk, naked, and unarmed!”

Shankar grumbles something under his breath before taking the bridle of the camel nearest him. “You three head on inside, I'll take care of the carriage.”

Guys I think we should mediate on earth.
>>
Soma, why does google english>latin translation turn "Bleak" into "Sour"?
>>
>>36596620
Nah
>>
>>36596640
Our son is currently a novice we could do some group mediation with him here and Earth give bonus to Metal mediation.
>>
>>36596620
metal training would be much better.
And gives us far more uses.
>>
>>36596702
Nah
>>
>>36596620

We've got Chys for earth, and metal is something we need more. Also, if we focus on raising metal first, we'll have some nice bonuses when we raise earth.
>>
>>36596631
Because Google Translate is pretty bad. Desolatus is the Latin word for bleak, desolate, abandoned, deserted, et cetera. Tristis and miser could work as well.
>>
>>36596702
or we could just focus on metal.
You know what we haven't done even tough we've known how usefull it is since like thread 10.
>>
>>36596703
How scary would training a dragon in metal magic be? Oh fuck
>>
>>36596702

Zahak also needs metal more, since he has no armor, but I agree with you on the group meditation bit.

I'm going to go on a limb here and say the enchanted armor. Let's get the kid a little protection too.

I'm not against I just want more vys.
>>36596720

>>36596780

>>
>>36596813
Honestly I feel pretty safe saying that in a short amount of time his natural armor is going to be better than our enchanted armors. Not against teaching him metal magic of course.
>>
>>36596847

Why do we need a blacksmith when we have the techniques we learned from that fucking book? ... Oh, and we also have the book.
>>
>>36596850

Except for the Elaudian steel. That shit don't break.
>>
Elaudian Steel Katana when?
>>
>>36596887
Eheh. Anon, what about a master metal magic using dragon clad in Elaudian steel?
>>
>>36596883
Metal magic, metalworking.
Duh.
>>
>>36596893
I don't think Soma would let us get one. It'd simply be too powerful.
>>
>>36596847
at this point, what we learned was more advanced than our level.
We could liekly do the same again, and it would still provide us a big bonus.
It would likely get stronger and we could move better, the better we get with metal.
Then we start focusing on mental training 100% of the time with metal.
Or read the book and learn awesome shit.

But I am open to going to a blacksmith to learn.
It should help us with enchanting and metal at the same time. To learn more about crafting/forging all that.
Could help us in the future, with an experiment or something as well. The knowledge we gain from working a forge
>>
>>36596893

>>
>>36596920
/facepalm

>>36596927
The main issue with the blacksmith is that I don't see being able to take Zahak with us, and I want him to learn metal too.
>>
>>36597000
we're going to the blacksmith to learn to "blacksmith" not to meditate.
We're just learning things there then leaving and meditating on what we learned about after WORKING with the metals.
>>
>>36597000
We want learning the trade dumbass.

Things like melting points, when to stop heating an item.

making sure it doesn't become brittle.
A whole bunch of shit I have no idea of because I am not a blacksmith.

I'm paraphrasing. It's obviously not that simple.
But I'd rather do other more penitent shit.
>>
>>36597101

I also don't give a shit about blacksmithing, and we already have better ways to learn metal magic... so, what's the point?

I love him.
Also DAMN, GM's have a big range for Nature surveillance.
>>36596893
As soon as we make our dragon knight armor suit thing, I imagine making a Katana will be a simple matter after that..
>>
>>36597101
We gain bonuses to Metal the same way learning anatomy gave bonuses to healing. Hell once we learn the basics we can do it on the road since we have a shit ton of ore with us.
>>
I hope that apprentice with potential didn't die.
>>
>>36597150
>>36597142
for metal magic ALONE yes, there is the book.
heck even just doing out last meditation. and improving it so we can more more fluidly would likely give us a better bonus.

1.Blacksmith is just for giving our character more knowledge about the world.
2.Giving him a small boost to enchanting*etching/metal working
3. Boost to our metal magic via understanding metals more
4.create When we know more about the material the cheaper it is. SO better we know more about metals in general.

But I am down for just reading the book too. Much faster, and with book with our last insight it will likely give us some insight towards mind protection.
>>
>>36597192
I'm pretty sure you're pulling that out of your ass.

>implying
Please, he'll probably outlive us since he isn't as reckless. And he has more potential than us.

I think it has more to do with how long he has been a GM rather than him being a gm at all.

You swing off the bench and land heavily on one leg, nearly twisting your ankle in the process. You catch yourself, but it's a close thing. Right, you're still a tad weaker than you'd like. Perhaps you ought to take it easy. You make your way up to the cabin door and jerk it open, poking your head in. “We're here everyone! File on out.”

Zahak stands abruptly, nearly knocking the table over as he bumps against it. He flinches away, scared by the noise and apparently having forgotten the presence of the table above him. You sense a touch of embarrassment and shame through the connection you share. You're just about to cast an invisibility spell in order to hide your adoptive son when an idea occurs to you.

You're weakened, at the moment, and expending vys on a taxing spell like invisibility is unlikely to be a good idea. With that in mind you picture Zahak fading out of sight and following you into the house, at which point he turns visible once more. You know he's capable of it, he turned himself invisible when you were wrestling him to trick you and score a cheap hit. A task which he succeeded at.

Zahak stares at you for a moment, head cocked to one side. Then he vanishes, gone from sight. You back away from the door and allow the rest of your companions to file out of the cabin. Presumably Zahak follows, you're relatively sure he does judging by the way the carriage list and shakes even after everyone else has climbed out.

Fortunately, Shankar doesn't seem to notice, though he does comment on the size of your party. “Gods above, Mik. Didn't realize you'd started a mercenary band. What do you need all this lot for? You delving ruins or conquering cities out there? Don't tell me you've gone bandit, I always thought you were better than that.”

>>
>>36597192

We might gain bonuses to making stuff.. like anatomy helps us heal, but just like healing is a small part of what water does, making stuff is a small part of what metal does, and not a part I'm interested in right now. I'm much more interested in body reinforcement and mental reinforcement, and learning how to make a spoon won't give us shit in either of those arias.

You grin. “What are you, Shankar? My mother? For the record, I haven't gone bandit nor do I intend to. It's just that the ruins I delve are a bit more dangerous than abandoned houses in the desert and old forts that haven't seen life for a thousand years. Most of them are pretty useful in a scrap.” You pause for a moment, turning your head to stare Profectus dead in the eyes. “Most of them.”

Profectus waves you off absentmindedly and Shankar shakes his head. “Don't go acting all high and mighty, like I never faced danger in my time. You ever starred down a Palaka with naught but a spear and your wits? I have. Some of the native tribes that still wander the waste can get real particular about their initiation ceremonies. So don't talk to me about danger like you're some expert.”

You slip away while he tends to the camels, if only to avoid further lecturing. You slip in through a small door in the stables and find yourself in a narrow stairwell. You climb to the first floor, which houses your Master's baths as well as his storage rooms. The room is always kept hot, and steam rises off the water to fill the air. It's humid enough that you could damn near drown just breathing, but somehow you find it comfortable.

Zahak seems to take 'comfortable' to a new level. There's a splash as he slides into the water, fading back into visibility. His head dips beneath the surface and he comes up a moment later, spreading his wings wide and sending great waves of water splashing onto the tile floors. He sloshes about for a moment, seemingly enjoying the warmth and the wet. You wouldn't really have pegged a dragon as a fan of swimming, but you suppose life is just full of surprises. You mentally scold Zahak for making a mess and snap your fingers repeatedly to get his attention. Eventually he relents and climbs out of the bath, but only reluctantly.

Your party makes its way to the second floor, your Master's sitting room. His new apprentice is playing the oud, he's surprisingly good for someone so young. Perhaps he learned from his father? Your old Master sits surrounded by plush pillows lined in silk and velvet, an ornate gold-wrought hookah pipe sitting in front of him. He sucks from a silver mouthpiece, blowing great blue clouds of sweet-smelling smoke from his nostrils.

The music cuts off with a sudden, unpleasant screech as your Master's new apprentice catches sight of your dragon, his eyes flying wide and his mouth dropping open. Your master reaches over and unceremoniously shuts the boy's mouth, inclining his head in your direction. “It's good to see you and your gaggle of misfits again, Mik. Seems larger than I last remember it. You seem different as well. Stronger, yet weaker. You look strange to these old useless eyes. Tell me, boy. How'd you fuck up this time?”

Despite the harsh language, there is obvious concern and affection in your master's tone. You stride forward and take a seat amongst the pillows which surround your master's prized hookah pipe. Your companions follow suit, somewhat stiffly. All save Profectus, who has already grabbed a hose and sucked down a lungful of whatever mixture of pipe weed your Master is smoking.

It has to important, take a long time, or be inherently dangerous. The entire point of my choice of GM mediation is to force Mik to use everything he knows about Metal to survive long enough to make the air ship.

Should we mention to our master that we think the parasite got there because we didn't coat ourselves in a metal condom?
>>
>>36598135

Somehow... I don't think that's necessary anon.
>>
You clear your throat, collecting your thoughts. “Well, how about the good news first. I've finally attained Grandmastrey of Water magic and I believe I can attain the same rank in Fire magic soon enough. I'm also achieved at least a beginner's level knowledge in all the elements.”

Your master nods once. “That is good to hear, Mik. You're progressing quickly. Quicker than I expected, and I had high hopes for you. Of course, you had a good role model. You're welcome, by the way. What about the bad news?”

You'd hardly call your old Master a 'good' role model, even if you love the man as a father. You let the comment slide. “The bad news is that a parasite from the heart of Surya himself has latched onto my soul and seems quite firmly rooted. It's this wriggly creature, twelve tentacles surrounding a red gem at its core. The gem is its eye, incidentally. It seems capable of transmuting its body into the same crystalline substance its eye is made of. Incidentally, this crystal seems capable of manipulating my soul. It stabbed me repeatedly when I tried to kill it and I'm sad to say I lost that fight.”

Master Karim shakes his head. “Gods above, Mik. How did you even discover a path into the Heart of Surya? How are you sitting before me alive, looking as homeless and ragged as you do, if you stepped into Surya's heart? You ought to be dead, vanished into the aether. Even your soul decomposed into raw vys never to be reborn on this Earth again. If you're lying to me, I'll cane your hide like I used to when you were twelve. Don't think I won't. Ask Rasim, he knows I've kept that old beating cane around.”

Rasim nods his head furiously up and down, eyes still wide and focused solely on your dragon. Zahak, for his part, is sniffing at the bowl of the hookah curiously. He thinks it smells good, apparently. Like that black stuff he found in the crate. {Opium.} His inhuman voice rumbles through your thoughts, recalling the word you taught him weeks ago.
(1/2)
>>
You praise him, mentally, for using his words before turning your attention to your old Master. “I worked with Varistha Sehzade in the Temple to the north of El-Amin, I'm sure you're familiar with the man.”

Your Master straightens up. “Sehzade, eh? How's the ancient bastard doing? The man was old when I was a newborn, powerful beyond all belief from what I've heard. Only had the pleasure of meeting him once, and that was for formal matters. Didn't have much time to swamp notes.”

“Dead, unfortunately. Rushed off to get himself killed before the madness could claim him completely. He wished to spare Pidjata a rampage that could have killed thousands, if not more. He was quite well though, I mean before the whole death thing. He bequeathed a collection of notes and journals to me upon his death, in secret of course, and I've been studying them intensely as of late. That's where I learned of a technique to pass into the void and find a gateway into the realm from which magic originates, the Heart of Surya.”

“Why'd he leave the chest to some young buck like you? Far as I recall you've accomplished little save getting your ass kicked out of society less than a year after you got your robes. Granted, that has to be some sort of record. Still not anything to be proud of.”

You smirk. “Because I killed an entire fleet of pirates, many of them powerful Vatis, and saved Shah Kadir's life after an attempted assassination. I've actually been unbanished, though it's yet to be made official. The Shah said he wished to better establish his rule before he goes about hurting his public image by admitting his fault. The bastard.”

(2/3)
>>
Karim narrows his eyes. “Is that your idea of relaxation? Because last I recall you were going to the Temple to study in peace. Not fight pirates and save Shahs and whatever else you did up there, gods only know. You get laid yet? Why couldn't you rescue that cute Shahzadi, the warrior woman? Now there's someone you could really-”

You hold up your hand to give your master pause. “The warrior woman was the one responsible for the assassination attempt. At least, that is my belief. The Shah will be conducting his own internal investigation into my claims.”

Your master seems surprised. “Really? Kinslaying? I would've never pegged her for the sort. Guess she'll hang, then. Guess that's what the lust for power can get a lass, a rope 'round the neck.”

You shrug your shoulders, to be honest it's not really any of your concern at this point. “Anyway, as I was saying. After my successful Grandmastery attempt I meditated on a technique that I discovered in the Varistha's notes and came across an open portal to the Heart of Surya. I don't know what got into me, but it was just so... so beautiful.” You recall the sight of that swirling vortex, every color imaginable rolling across your field of view, spiraling onward without end. “I couldn't resist, I stepped inside.”

“When I came out the other end and woke up, my chest ached. Not badly, but it was noticeable and I couldn't heal it. Then I tried meditating on the pain on my way south, to El-Amin, and I discovered the parasite. I poked and prodded at it a bit, thought it was just a knot of pure vys. Then it woke up and stabbed me, and well, I've been weak ever since. I was hoping you might be able to help me remove it.”
(3/4)
>>
Your master takes a long drag from the silver mouthpiece of his hookah, exhaling a cloud of blue smoke before he speaks. “Alright, I'll help. You'll need to teach me that meditation method though. It sounds similar to a method I recall from my youth, my time as an apprentice, but my Master refused to teach it to me. I figure if we return to the void where you originally picked up the parasite, we ought to be able to remove it more easily.”

You spread your hands graciously. You think this smoke is starting to get to you, you're feeling a little light headed. The fact you're dog tired isn't helping either. Gods, you'd love a nap. Shame you've got things to do first. “I would be more than happy to teach you the method I learned from the Varistha's notes. It's the least I can do in exchange for thirteen long years of tutelage.”

“Easy there, Mik. You know I don't swing that way so you can stop sucking my dick any time.” Profectus breaks out into giggles, sprawled out on the cushions to the right of you. Man doesn't seem able to hold his smoke. You can't imagine why. You note a grin splitting your old Master's face as well, and you have to admit it was kind of funny. Oddly enough Darzi, who's taken a seat to your left, seems sort of vaguely offended judging by her posture. “But I'm glad to hear you're willing. We should get started immediately, assuming you're feeling up to the task. The sooner we pry that parasite from your soul the better. Don't want it taking root and subverting your personality or some such.”

You hold up a finger. “Actually, there's an alternative we might use to solve the parasite issue. Then I can teach you the method when I don't feel like I ought to be on my death bed. My cloak is a portal to the void and the guardian inside is a good friend, I've dubbed him Ricky and he organizes many of my belongings. I believe he has been termed an 'Elder' by other entities I've worked with in the past. Anyway, he desires to eat the spirit which has latched itself to my soul and presumably gain his power. I believe if we enter the void through my cloak, Ricky may be able to assist us in removing the parasite.”

Your master stares at you for a long while. “Mik, that's got to be one of the dumbest sounding ideas I've ever heard in my half millennia of time on this Earth.” You're about to retort, but he continues after only a brief pause. “But if it gets this over with quick I'm all for it. After all, what's the worst that could possibly happen? We get eaten by void entities and our souls are destroyed, that's what. Between the two of us though, I doubt that will be an issue.” He waves a hand dismissively, as if clearing the air of a foul smell.

You nod firmly, unable to contain a giddy grin. It feels so... well, strange to interact with your old Master as an equal. You'd even say it's surreal.

Hopefully not, we're already in trouble for it.

If we do teach him enchanting we need to make extremely clear to him how dangerous it is if word gets out.

we should study or sword for runes and make standalone vys batteries which do nothing more than gather vys. If we're lucky we might figure out a way to make them gather vys passively

Not really, but we were kind of told that mortals are forbidden to know enchanting, on pain of death. Nothing we haven't dealt with before.

No, we should study all our bullshit like we've been saying to do for 10+ threads now.

First GM robe test for Mik and Vatis robe test for Darzi, then robe shopping, then visit our family.
Afterwards Mik goes to Khemdi (or Khmedi? I think Soma used both) while the others can perhaps stay with Master Karim and git gud, the apprentice can practice with them. Perhaps they can even learn some effects, none of them knows any effect so far.
Then off to the Pa'vala.

I have to wonder if the image that Ricky sent us about the guy getting speared through the throat was advice from Ricky about how to kill an entity you need to stab them through their vital point, like Var-Var was telling us. Maybe we could have killed it ourself without too much trouble if we would have just driven a lance of force through it's eyeball.
>>
>>36601433

Metal's the next priority, and we can't get much better at fire then we are without a grandmaster ordeal, which we really don't have time for right now.
>>
>>36601433
Mistral arms are meh
>>
>>36601433
Point offense will be difficult without water to freeze into shields.
I think we should get Earth to Vatis (only one more insight) and of course Metal will be useful.
Also all those effects... we have scrolls still unread from the first threads, and 4 read but not learned.
>>
>>36601535
Point offense doesn't have shields.
>>36601433
I doubt Nature would be useful if water isn't, since plants need water to grow.
>>36601464
Nah, it was a demonstration of that the parasite stole our memory of that event.
>>
>>36601717
>>36601480
I want nature for sensory help. We need to know what's round us in that desert and in ruins. I feel like that would help more than any other element right now. Mistral arms and point offense is so we can be safer in close range, though now that i think about it metal could be helpful with that too. Because we get damaged way too much, of course we manage to get ourselves better thanks to healing but i'd really rather not get hurt as much.
>>
>>36601923
I don't know, doesn't Nature work with plants? There are probably no plants there.
Metal is good though.
>>
>>36602153
Nature is not just plant magic. It has great sensory capabilities. Right now, we move with our five senses, and mostly by sight, much like normal people. We have seen time and again how superior nature sensory can be and we almost never use it. We need to get better at it. Thankfully we can improve very fast in it too; we have our master, and the new girl (can't remember her name right now) to teach us and our water grandmastery helps us a lot.

Also, there surely are forms of live even in the most remote and harsh deserts.
>>
>>36602822
>can't remember her name
Holy shit, I have to say fuck you anon, fuck you.
Mormor outright said she isn't good with the extrasensory applications of Nature magic, and I doubt Water will help us with that.
Why do you think Nature GM's keep plants around everywhere? Because that's how they extend their senses, they see through plants. they need plants for it.
>>
>>36602822
Her name's Mortia.
I'm keeping this thread alive for a bit longer.
>>
>>36602848
>I doubt Water will help us with that.
Water help quite a bit with nature, Mortia is about grandmaster rank in it so she can help us even if sensory side of it is not her specialty and we are with our master right now who is great at it.

I don't believe the sensory side of it is limited to seeing through plants even if that is the easiest, widespread and most effective way. It has been mentioned several times for example that there were a lot of good nature vatis at the temple and they had a good chance of discovering zahak, and that was not because of plants. There are other sensory abilities in Nature I believe.
>>
>>36604917
Metal should be a priority.

Also guys with our ring, our sanity is decreasing.
instead of relying on insanity for enchanting we can study the "strings" we ran into last time.
they were the laws of the universe. Studying them should give us a better understanding of the things we're trying to manipulate with enchanting.
So instead of staying insane for enchanting. We should focus on that before our next enchant session.

But metal first.
And hopefully some metas and effects
>>
>>36606948

Honestly, the way we're going, I'm not sure the ring can keep up with our sanity loss. I mean, we did just jump through the heart of Surya and battled a void parasite while shredding our own soul in the process. Before that we spent a couple of weeks in constant mind numbing agony while getting our water grandmastery. I wouldn't be surprised if pretty soon our ring started giving off sparks before it blew up from overwork just trying to keep up with us. That's not even counting the casual talks with eldritch horrors we do, or our casually trasping through the void. ... Yea, even with the ring, we may be fucked.
>>
>>36604917
I meant that Water wouldn't help us with the extrasensory aspect of Nature specifically.
>>36606948
I hate the way you type, format, and post.
What we have to do is make Magnification and memorize the runes on the damned ring already.
And what we have to do for non-insane enchanting is different from that I think, but regardless we should not prioritize enchanting right now.
In fact, enchanting is basically the least important thing right now. We need to git gud, that is, learn effects and metas for utility, and develop techniques, and study stuff, and find out what our already plenty of ridiculous gear does, and possibly memorize their runes if we're already inspecting them.
Which reminds me
>>36601923
Earth+Nature=Tremor Sense would be perfect if it works with sand, actually. I can't remember if it does or not though.
>>
>>36607160
That's why we focus on metal.
after apprentice, we can do mind shit.
focusing on just that after hitting apprenice should give us a shit mind shield for expert. Do the same till master gain a not shit mind shield.
And three insights towards that should be enough for our day to day Dumbass chioces.
and we should know to fortify before doing the Surya meditation.
>>
>>36607236

One thing I do think we should try to do before we leave is make a copy of our ring to give to our master. The old dude probably needs it almost as bad as we do, and he's earned a few gifts from us.
>>
>>36606948
>>
>Also guys with our ring, our sanity is decreasing.

>So instead of staying insane for enchanting. We should focus on that before our next enchant session.
That isn't going to help with the finalization step of enchanting (the part insanity helps with) because finalization succeeding relies on us believing the enchantment is real (which is the entire reason why being insane is a requirement for enchanting) also mental protection mediation requires you to attack your own sanity from what I understand so it's not a good idea to mediate on it right now.
If you want to make an argument for lowering insanity you should be advocating for increasing our vys pool since we're reaching the point where having a shit ton of vys is more important than mastering the elements.
>>
>>36607160
Nah, you're underestimating our sanity, talking with Ricky and the Stooges don't cost sanity, nor does Varvar's meditation method if players stop being absolute idiots and do the sensible thing that is not stepping through the gate.
I think you're exaggerating the amount of pain we went through during our GM meditation as well.
>>36607737
Actually, I think Soma has said before that there is a way to get a bonus to finalization even without sanity, we just don't know how to.
But I agree, getting more vys is important, but that can happen simultaneously with us learning metas, effects, and furthering our knowledge of the elements, as well as making new techniques.
>>
>>36607472
Eh, nah, he's doing fine, once we're better at enchanting maybe.
>>
>>36607737

Now, I have to disagree with that. One thing that's been clear as the game progresses is that the different levels of mastery are pretty damned absolute. It's just like the way that you can't remove someones scars if your healing isn't good enough, no matter how much vys you have. On top of that, things that would have taken time and pretty much our entire vys pool when we started can now be healed instantly without any significant vys expenditure at all. I'm not saying that having a deep vys pool isn't important, and it makes a lot of things a lot more convenient, but it doesn't change that some things are simply impossible without the right level of mastery, no matter how much vys we have.
>>
>>36607849
Pursuing one necessitates the other anyway, we just need to find a balance between advancing our elemental ranks and other shit.
>>
>>36607781
>Actually, I think Soma has said before that there is a way to get a bonus to finalization even without sanity, we just don't know how to.
By working with a group though teaching enchanting to mortals is a bad idea.
>>36607849
Having more vys will make advancement through the elements fast and easy which is one of the many I want more vys.
>>
>>36607894
No, group provides bonus to inscription.
And I obviously wouldn't suggest teaching anyone enchanting, I mean god damn, how stupid do you think me?
>>
>>36607737
Increasing our cysts has NO THINGS to do with sanity.
So that's just wrong.
Never has it been stayed or hinted at, that to use metal we must attack our sanity.
It's been stated to be more like a barrier.
>>
>>36607737
As for finalization. I think soma threw around that reading varvars notes about the universe would help us.
so learning more abut the universe it's self makes sense.

Enchanting is bending or breaking the laws that are already in place.
we can't break what we don't know exist.
Knowing the rules of the universe gives us insight into how to actually bend the rules.
>>
>>36608197
>>36608160
Fucking auto correct.
Shouldn't be to hard to fill in the gaps
>>
This been archived or is it still down?
>>
>>36608160
Actually, it's been very strongly implied that Metal GM and higher level meditations have the highest probability of causing us to go insane, since they involve exposing ourselves to something that induces insanity and trying to shield ourselves from it.
>>
>>36608505

That depends on what we focus on. Personally, I think we'd be better off focusing on physical hardening techniques for our meditations, and be happy with the baseline GM mental protection. After all, if we mess up body hardening, you can heal it with our GM in water. If we mess up on mental defense, we're screwed. ... Actually, that makes me wonder now if there's methods to use water to heal the mind. It might be something to look into.
>>
>>36608573
It's been discussed that water+earth+metal mind in some way be used to heal the mind, but we'd kow more if we finally just looked at the runes on our fucking ring.
Also, since we have GM healing, I think it's less important to focus on the physical aspect of metal and instead the mental one. Or at least it seems somewhat logical.
>>
>>36608625

But by the same logic it's safer to focus on the physical aspect then the mental. Honestly, it doesn't mater much power wise what we focus on most until grandmaster, and our sanity really isn't in any shape to take too many hits for higher level meditations. I think it's safe to say that we'll get plenty of practical experience with the mental defense in our daily lives. No need to seek stuff like that out more then we already do when we meditate.
>>
I know people have talked about flying before. Why don't we just form a block of ice under our feet, and move that around instead? It runs the risk of us getting knocked off if we don't anchor our feet in it, but we should be able to get some nice 3D movement that way.
>>
>>36608976

That would be an awesome way to get to Chys home town, kill her husband, and get back before we missed too much. Not to mention, can you imagine the look on Zahak's face when we start flying next to him?
>>
Is it bad that I just realized we can turn ourselves into iceman whenever we want? Encase ourselves in an ice statue for enhanced strength, armor, and point defense, and create slides of ice to take us everywhere. We already shoot ice at all our enemies. I can't think of a single reason why this wouldn't work, and it probably wouldn't use that much vys either.
>>
>>36610657
>I can't think of a single reason why this wouldn't work, and it probably wouldn't use that much vys either.
Lack of water.
