There's a moment of clean-up as you pack away the pile of webbing, stuffing it into an empty bag. You think Elle eats it sometimes?
Your family might be a little weird.

Or maybe it's normal for spiders? You might be the weird one.
Nah.
It's definitely Elle.

Lann excused herself, running upstairs to pack some clothes or whatever. So you're standing in the street, tapping limbs and waiting for your friend. Nin is fun to watch, though.

The little moth is bracing herself on your skull, wings fluttering as she snaps her head back and forth faster than even Jin does. It's a little worrying, but she seems so excited.

She's currently... vaguely well behaved. There's still the gate on the way out, though. But maybe there's a way around that.

>A quick stop at the trader for some candy- Bribe/reward the moth.
>Speed is your friend here- Once Lann is ready, nonstop through the gate.
>Distractions! Have her 'practice' flying while you leave.

Giving her candy as a reward not too soon after she's been promoting our queenly reign?

What could possibly go wrong?

Has Elle mentioned the spindle to us? It was only in her head during the bonus scene.

I guess we can just say she mentioned it off screen. Yeah, if they have a spindle of other sewing/weaving equipment, we can get it for her.

It all starts once they realize what they have done to the village, and they confess to the village elder. And a human over hears. The human decided to share this information with the local authorities, and they decide they wanted to have a chat with out little Mothia. They decided it be better to skip town then deal with the law, mostly because the last time I had them caught I did in fact make them stand trial. However once they started running one of them realized the situation they were in. On the run, for the creation and plans to sell Alcohol. They are now heading for the largest city on the continent with every plan to take over the criminal underground. Mr. Cocaine Moth figures that if he can make a new and awesome drug they'll have an in with a drug lord.

Oh my poor helpless notes I only could use them once that session

Moths in this setting run the risk of getting kidnapped because of how versatile their dusts are and how weak they are physically.

You consider for maybe half a second.

If it works, it'll definitely be worth it.
If it works...

No time for hesitation, Lyra. Nobody ever made progress by wishing things were better.

"Nin."
"Mhmmmmm?"
"We are almost ready to leave, yes. If you were to- Ah, not make it any more difficult-"
"I am not kidnapping anyone, My queen. My fragile heart could not take such sorrow-"
"That is a filthy lie and you know it-"
"Heeeee-"

You bury your face in our hands as she starts to giggle.

"Heehehehehehehe-"
"Candy."
"Heee- Hah?"
"Behave yourself, and I will get you some candy, yes?"
"I still don't know what that is. And I am fairly certain that we don't eat the same sort of things, Lyra."

You shake your head.
"It isn't meat, yes? And moths- ah, the insect kind- The small insect kind, yes?"
"Mhm."
"They eat it. I think they like it? Sugar, that is. It is made of sugar."
"What is sugar?"

"A sort of, uh. It's an ingredient, usually. In cooking. It looks like little crystals, yes?"
"Crystal?"
"Gemstones? That sort of thing?"

Nin purses her lips, shaking her head side to side.
"Umm. Did your books have pictures?"
"Some of them."
"Were there any pictures of kings and queens, yes?"
"Yes."
"Crowns?"
"Yes."

"Gems and crystals are the kinds of things set into crowns, yes? Sometimes. My mother's spear has one in the centre."
"And I can eat those?"
"No, you can eat sugar. It just sort of looks like those. Don't try to eat gems, yes? They are rocks."

Nin kneels in the eye socket, her elbows on the rim, propping up her head. She closes her eyes as you watch, tilting her head side to side and humming.

She does that a lot when she's thinking.
>>
>>36567523
Her eyes open, and she smiles.
"Alright. Though it pains me, as your most loyal herald, I will trust in my queen for now."
You groan a little, but pat her gently on the head as Lann strides out of the guild, her pack easily doubled in size. She walks right up, smiling as she goes.

"You're ready, then?"
"Yeah, I'm good."
"What did you need so much of that it filled a whole bag?"

She glances at her pack and shrugs.
"Adventurer stuff? Bedroll, clothes-"
"We have a bath. And more blankets than you have ever seen, yes."

She snorts.
"I've probably seen a lot of blankets, kid."
"There are seven arachne in my family, yes? And we have more blankets than we need to cover all of us."

You friend takes a step back, sizing you up.
"I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Maybe."
"I'll make you sleep in that bedroll, yes."

You share a laugh.
"We have one stop at the trader's, yes."

MAPS! See if they have maps. Maps of roads, trade routes, rivers. Anything. We'll be hitting the road sooner or later (probably sooner) and we could use them to pick our route.

Fashion mags. A spindle and any other weaving/sewing products they might have.

Jerky is always good for a snack.

Theresa is happy to see you- Almost more so when she realizes you don't have more silk to sell.

"We had trouble getting a caravan up here, then we had trouble with negotiations, then we had trouble getting suitable guards- It's a pain. A good, and very wealthy sort of pain, but a pa- Is that a moth?!"

You look back. Nin is still seated on your back, turning her head all over to check out the wares.
Turning back to Theresa, you nod.

"Yes."

"That's all the explanation I'm going to get, isn't it?"
"Her name is Nin, yes?"

The shopkeep circles your abdomen, and offers a hand to your passenger.
"I'm Theresa. Nice to meet you."
"I am Nin, the first herald of the que- Oh, I am supposed to be behaving."
She smiles, and takes the offered hand.
"Just Nin, then!"

Theresa blinks. Repeatedly.
"... There's a queen-"
"No."
"She just said-"
"She likes to pretend I am a queen, yes."

The girl looks you up and down.
"Are you?"
"Wha- No!"
"It's a fair question."
"It's not a- No. Nevermind. Can I get some of the rock candy, please? I think I am bribing someone, but it might just be self-inflicted blackmail."

"Uh, Alright then."

The trader busies herself behind the counter, looking for the jar of candy, and you nudge the moth forwards.
"You can look around, yes? It's safe here."
Nin nods, crossing her arms, and floats to the floor, scurrying towards the nearest rack.

You scour the building yourself. It's something to do while you wait, at least.
You end up with a few small jars of spices, and you think you've spotted a spindle on the wall.

People use those to sew, right? Or something.
You're not big on ancient history.
You weren't big on ancient history, anyway. It's probably time to start.
>>
>>36568413
There's a few charts here and there, but you can probably get some from your parents. There is basically no way that your father doesn't have entire books of carefully detailed maps, probably covered in half finished notes.
You giggle to yourself a little as you move.

You grab another little jar, this one with what looks like dried fruits, and some ink and paper.
This is what you do now. Plan ahead for additional bribery.

Theresa is more than happy to sell you the bits and pieces you picked up- And her entire face lights up when you point to the spindle. She gives it to you for free.

Now with a package strapped to the skull's peak, you head for the gate, monsters and a half elf in tow.

We should go find a princess, maybe. They're much better for kidnapping than adventurers, right?
>>
>>36568904

Listen, I get that we think this is funny from an outside perspective.

However, from an in-character perspective, there is a girl you have only recently met. She seems like a nice enough sort, though she is kind of strange. Said girl says she's taking you on a visit to a really cool location and then decides, literally for shits and giggles that she's going to pack you into a claustrophobically tight casing and then drag you through the woods for almost an hour. That isn't funny. It's goddamn creepy.

Even just tying her up in a conventional sense is fucking weird, especially after she expressed discontent with our escapades last time. From a party perspective, we are making Lyra That Guy. That isn't really something I think any of us should want.
>>
>>36568959

>>36568996

Ok sorry got carried away and I apologize to any one and everyone I offended.
>>
>>36569120
Na your pretty much right by saying that. We are really close to becoming that spider
>>
>>36569120

It's all good. We were just taking the joke a bit too far and I think we've now taken a step back from our amusement to consider the in-character perspective and possible ramifications of our actions.

I'm fully confident REQM won't let us ruin our relationship with Lann over one round of shenanigans, the quest being as light hearted and fun as it is. Still, we definitely don't want to keep pushing her buttons when she has made it clear what her boundaries are. Doing so is like trading the sheep for the wool as it were, and later on we might regret it.

Besides, I'm sure we'll find bandits eventually, and then be able to have our fun.
>>
>>36568996
From her perspective Lyra's also a month old and goofball who has grownup too fast, but has good intentions. From a personal near death experience, I like to chalk it up as Lyra being high on the fact that she's alive, it changes your outlook on things.

The gate is almost boring- though you can practically see the tenseness knotting your friends shoulders on our approach.

Lann throws constant glances towards you, trying to keep an eye on you at all times.
You wouldn't say that your encouraging it, but...

You definitely smile at her when she faces you.
You might be showing a little fang.

Who knows, really?

There's more people at the gate as you walk up- the men from the guild earlier, the people with the paper. They're chatting as you walk up.

"It's all marked down, sir."
"Hmph. The arachne was in the guild earlier, looking for someone or another."
"Lann, sir. Uh, Archer. Half-elf. It's all in there."
"How'd a guild member wind up with a spider, anyway?"
"With a spider?"

The older standing man waves a hand.
"I'm not going to judge someone's taste. I'm just curious how it happened-"
"Wha-"

And now Lann is wearing an absolutely shellshocked expression, her face frozen somewhere between a blush and denial.
And as much as you want the conversation to continue, if only for your own amusement, there's no way you could possibly hold back your laughter.

Both men turn at the sound, and are confronted by a half-elf frantically trying to be somewhere else, and an arachne bent double with laughter, wheezing and crying. Nin is giggling right alongside you- While Sheszka and Jin are politely waiting for their friends to start making sense again.

The guild representative- You assume, anyway- watches in confusion, before he finally waves a hand to one side and interrupts.
"So? How did it happen?"
Lann chokes.
"It's- I- No!- Not- It's not!"

You manage to restrain your cackling, straightening. You rub at your tear streaked cheeks, which just kinda spreads them around.
Lann, now apparently able to sense incoming trouble, snaps her feet together into something resembling a military stance, and barks out an answer all at once before you can.
>>
>>36569407

"We met at the gate, Sir! She's a child, and she shared stories with the guild! We do not have that sort of relationship, sir!"
She finishes gasping for breath, trying to calm herself as the officer scratches behind his ears.
"Ah. My apologies, then. I'd heard she'd spent a night at the guild-"
"Just sleeping, sir."

He nods.
"Carry on, then. Your destinations, Misses?"

You step forward, pointing to each in turn.
"Lyra, Jin, Nin, Sheszka and Lann, yes. We are going home, she is visiting."
The guard scribbles it all down, and you're ushered through the gate and onto the road- even the officer is blushing a bit, trying to shoo you off and dodge his mistake.

Lann's still blushing after you crest the hill, starting down the stone road towards the ruins. She holds one hand to her forehead as she walks, holding her eyes shut and following the sound of your footsteps.

You twist.
"Are you alright?"
"Fine. I'm fine!"
Her voice is a little squeaky. You smile.

"Don't worry, yes? There is nothing to be concerned about."
"I'm not... concerned. Just a bit embarrassed."
"About that?"
"Of course!"

You tap your fingers together.
"I would think you would be much more embarassed about the kidnapping, yes."
Her eyes snap open, but it's already far too late. You secure her hands behind her back and throw her over your shoulder, laughing all the while, tearing down the road to the ruins with your victim and your friends.

"LYRAAAAA!"

Your prisoner falls silent as you pass through the ruins, which is probably for the best. For both her lungs and your ears.

You swing her into your arms as you walk, so she can get a better view of the fallen stone- and also so you can chat. Talking to someone behind you is one thing, talking to someone over your shoulder is just irritating.

"This is the city?"
"Yes. There's a few statues on the other side, and the walls stretch pretty far around, yes."
"I thought- Honestly, I thought with the way it was defended, there was something more."
"It's mostly underground, now. Mazes of collapsed tunnels and monsters. There's all sort of things beneath, yes."
"Huh."

You're keeping a decent stride. Strong enough that your hair is catching the wind, fluttering ever so slightly- There's way too much of it to really trail behind you. At least at this speed.
You need to do something about that eventually.

The forest is peaceful as you walk, heading unerringly towards home.
"Shouldn't there be more monsters?"
"There's four right here, yes?"
"You know what I mean."
"The daytime creatures, they mostly avoid me. If I am not sneaking around, I can travel in peace."
"That's... really handy, actually."
"Usually."

"Are you going to untie me?"
"Eventually."
She sighs, leaning back into your arms.
"Just relax, yes? We're almost there."

"Where?"
"Home."

The little clearing is the same as always.
For a given value of always, anyway.

The stone pillars that make up the bath are pretty new, but you're kind of used to them already so...
You ignore it, heading straight for the tree.

Lann watches.
"Uh- Lyra. Lyra, what're you- Woah!"
"We live in a nest, yes?"

She looks past you, at the retreating forest floor.
"I didn't realize. About the nests. Or the walking straight up trees bit."

You shrug, jostling her a little, and she tenses.
"Don't worry. I won't drop you."
"That's- That's good. Dropping is bad."
"There's a ladder, too. For later."

You pull into the nest as usual, crawling over the side and into the safety of home. You can hear Mom somewhere above, barking orders. Probably at Aria. Elle will be out hunting, your brothers the same. And Dad and Sara are sitting in a patch of sunlight, paging through books and arguing about magic. Or discussing.

You can't listen without dozing off, so you've never been sure.

"We're back, yes!"
Dad waves, glancing up, then right back down.
Then up again.

"Lyra?"
"Yes?"
"Is she tied up?"
"Yes."

He stares at you, standing there with a half elf in your arms, before shaking his head slightly.
"Why?"
"It seemed funny at the time, yes."
"And now?"
"Still funny."

Lann snorts, and you drop her on her feet, cutting her hands free with one finger. She stretches her digits, clenching and unclenching them till she's satisfied.
"Uh. I'm Lann, an adventurer from the guild. Nice to meet you."

Your father stands, and books cascade from his lap.
He winces, but steps over them and offers his hand.
"Erics. Nice to meet you, too."

She grabs his hand at the wrist, and they nod at each other. An adventurer thing?
"I- ah. I'll admit, I wasn't quite sure what your daughter meant when she said she was half-elf as well."
Dad laughs.
"They're all arachne. A few traits, is all."

Sara looks up and waves, though she doesn't bother with names.
"That's Sara. My wife and another of our daughters is in the arena above."
"Arena?"
"We have a training ground, yes? I did not get this strong on my own."

"I thought all arachne were that strong?"
"Not at all. I have grown twice, and Mom trained me to use a spear. And a shield."
"She hasn't taught her how to not get beaten, though."
"Thank you, Nin."
"I have been extremely well behaved."

You sigh.
"I will give you your treat after dinner, yes? I don't want to ruin your appetite."
The moth makes a little frown.

You grab Nin with one arm, running the other though her hair till she smiles. And you keep her there as you show your friend around your home.

"Food is over there, yes-"
"That's an empty space, Lyra."
"There's seven arachne, an elf, a harpy and a wolf. Trust me, there will be food there. And then it will be gone."
Lann laughs.

"And what about your pocket moth?"
Nin raises her nose, and you play with her antennae before she can get a retort out.
You ignore her squeaks, and enjoy the feeling of her heavenly soft hair on your fingers as you answer.
"She eats plants and such, yes. I... don't know if she can eat meat, actually."

The mothling grabs your hand, and manages to pry it off her head (Well, you allow her, anyway).
"Nnnnnah-no. We can't eat meeeeat! Lyra!"
"You are the softest herald, yes?"
"Eeeep!"

"Over there is the blankets. We just kind of pile them when we aren't using them, yes."
Lann eyes the blanket mountain critically.
"I'll give it to you."
"Hmm?"
"It's probably more blankets than I've seen."
"Ah. They're very soft too."
"Theresa was ranting about spider silk before. How it's going to make the village rich."

You nod.
"I heard, yes. Apparently nobles and the like fight over it."
"That's kinda crazy."
"Well, you'll see."
"If you say so."

"And here is our bath."
Lann leans over the water, looking from the top of your trio of pools to the bottom.
It takes everything you have not to push her.

"You have a waterfall?"
"I made the rock pieces, yes? And we used a spirit stone from the crab for water."
"Isn't that cold?"
>>
>>36572230
You take your hand from Nin's head and let your fire dance along the edges.
"I can make fire, or heat myself, yes? And my father is a fire mage in his own right. We heat the first pool, and the other are then warmed as well."
"That sounds kind of fantastic. There was a bathhouse in the city, but you can't go all the time."

You gesture her to the ladder, leading above. To doom.
You follow her up, sans ladder, and are greeted by the sight of your sister essentially pleading for mercy.

Mom has flattened her thoroughly, and she's lying in the centre of the circle while your mother prods at her with one leg.
"Is that it Ari? You're going to have to do better-"
Aria groans.
"Mom, you understand that you have an evolution and several decades on her, yes?"

She turns at the sound of your voice, resting her training weapon easily on one shoulder. Aria takes advantage of the distraction, throwing you a grateful look as she crawls to towards the edge of the arena.

"Are you volunteering then, little one?"
"I am afraid I have plans, yes? I need to be abe to move later."

You keep your moth to yourself like an oversized stuffed animal. Your other hand waves freely to your friend, who is standing with a slightly awestruck look on her face at your mother.

She is kind of intimidating, now that you think about. Giant spider, horns. Usually armed and armoured. And Lann just watched her crush another arachne.

So there's that, too.

"This is Lann, yes? Half elf, archer and adventurer of the guild."
Your mother flicks a stray lock of hair over her shoulder, sizing up the half-elf.
"Guild, hmm? Where did you join, little one?"

Lann blinks, and manages to close her hanging jaw before she answers. You grin a bit.
"Ah- I joined in Demer. I was accepted in Demer, anyways."

Mom nods, half lost in some sort of monstrous nostalgia.
"Demer... They had good swordsman, yes. Solid training."
"Are- are you the arachne they used to talk about in the hall?"

Mom laughs. Smiles. All fang and steel.
"Most likely, little one. We tend to leave an impression, yes?"
Lann glances at you. At your hand. And back to your mother.

"Yeah. Yeah, I think you do."
"Hah! Has my hatchling already scarred a few of her own?"
"Uh- She put her hand through the floor. Somebody wasn't taking her seriously wehn she said she was strong."

You blush as your mother cackles.
"Well done, well done!"

You scratch at our cheek as it burns. Enough of this- Aha.

"Ah, Mom?"
"Yes?"
"Could I ask a question?"
"Of course, dearheart."

Innocent face, innocent face...
>>
>>36573132
"When we were leaving town, yes? One of the guards thought I was 'with' Lann. What did he mean?"
Your mother's face is a bloodless mask. You can see the lines of tension in her jaw, the beads of sweat already forming across her forehead. She lets of a few chirps and clicks, not even really speaking as she tries to force her mouth to move.
"Ah. Well. That could mean, uh, all sorts of things. Yes. It could be anything it doesn't mean anything haha-"

A little push-
"He said it was because I slept in her room, yes?"
She gurgles.

"It's- It is- ah. Sometimes two people- two people- tw-two-"
The blush on her cheeks is spreading, inexorably. Across her face, her neck. She's nearly as red as your shell.
"Two?"
"ASK YOUR FATHER"

She spins, the training spear landing neatly next to the treasury door as she hurtles out of the nest, web trailing behind her as she rappels to the forest floor.

Lann watches with an utterly blank look while Nin cackles in your arms, her whole body buzzing with the force of her laughter.

Fin - also know as Dr. Love, or The Fabulous Wonder Moth wants to be Grand pimp, he's a bard more or less

Those 3 are brothers

Then there is Nye the magic user, Wind and ice mostly he's good at flying too

and Tim the economist of the group, he was plotting how to sell the most booze without crashing the market

so now we just need to find someone to become the sea
>>
>>36573498
I still think that is dumb.
>>
>>36573524

Maybe a little too hard on the criminal deviance for the tone of this quest. However, trouble making moths on a constant quest for get-rich-quick schemes that we end up constantly roped into could be fun.
>>
>>36573554
Don't you know? All ancient mythology is the result of some chunii guy making shit up. It's all dumb.
>>
>>36573593

They did try to crash the local fur market using a plan involve squirrel breeding pits before moving on to booze
>>
>>36573635
ok now that is a story that you should tell
>>
I wonder when that merchant is going to start bothering us for moth powder.
>>
>>36573693
Probably never. I doubt he is going to find much business in town afer that stunt, he probably returned to the city already.
>>
>>36573725
what?
No, I mean the one we deal with ourselves.
Gosh I hope that OTHER merchant is doing allright, we've not seen him or his family in a while.
>>
>>36573693
He is not around anymore.
But we might ask the moths if tbey want us to transfer some powder over tbat caravane tbats suposed to come.
They might not want to attract much attention though, given their already existing problem with kidnapping.
>>
>>36573780
>>36573725
Well okay, but how about the one who lives in town who we just talked to?
That merchant lady?
>>
>>36573660

They at first tried making money by hunting, but the only thing they could reliable hunt without risks was small animals, and you need alot of them and some skills to make decent furs. Dr. Love had already figured out how to make both the contraceptive powder and an aphrodisiac powder. hey soon put an Idea together.

Step one, build a pit with a moth house covering to house the squirrel and hide them from the village

Step two fill it with plenty of food refill weeklyish

Step three throw in several mating pairs

Step four flood it with boner powder

Step 5 Skin squirrels learn to stitch hides together well

Step six profit.

They got to step 5 but then forgot about it since they started booze. The squirrels are in fact still there and breeding. and will run out of food very soon.

Last time I rolled they had about 80 some squirrels now
>>
>>36573748
Ah, you mean Theresa, I had filed her under shop owner. She'd probably be happy if we brought it, but I doubt she would bother us abut it.
>>
>>36573824
What exactly would happen when 80 squirrel tokens, I mean squirrels were to break free of that pit in a hunger induced frenzy?
>>
>>36572230
>"You are the softest herald, yes?"
Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnng
>>
>>36573913
There would be alot of very annoyed and upset Moths

On another Note Doctor Love also knows how to fashion Clothing from Mothslik The fabulous Gay moth meeting Ellie would be fantastic

Nye also has books on Mothmagic

while Tim once tried to explain to a passing merchant Utility theory
>>
>>36573824
So your not going to let the 80+ sex squirrels infest the village, absolutely ruining any dramatic moment for months to come?

Emergency Council? Sex squirrels going at it I the window.
Prison Sentence? Sex squirrels going at it in the rafters.
Love Confession? Sex squirrels going at into the tree above.
>>
>>36574031

If the Moths ever return to their village then yes there will be a Squirrel epidemic
>>
>>36573824

So are the players playing in character by having the moths be flighty airheads?

Or is it just happening, organically against the players wishes.

With there luck, I would be careful of anything that went beyond 3 steps. 2 steps feels safer to actually work.
>>
>>36575059

A bit of both really. Dr. Love being most obviously trying to play a character, the booze hound just kinda happened as he tended to shove whatever he found into his mouth to make more powders.

If no plans ever pan out it's better for me, I'm never gonna let the half baked plans just fade out
>>
>>36575586

Almost sounds like in game you effectively have either the moths playing as:

The Three Stooges
Or the Marx Brothers

The reality is no plan will ever play out for them.

They will try every single quick money scheme and then trip over themselves in the end.
>>
>>36575648

Then one day they meet Lyra who just has piles of treasure laying about and become extremely jealous. They then attempt various way to either Con or out right steal her loot but they always fail in comedic fashion with everyone being friends at the end of the day
>>
>>36575687

I can just see them being thought of as cute by Lyra, till they started going.

An annoyance to be chased away, Nin would probably proclaim them as not moths. As they would be an embarrassment in front of her majesty Lyra.
>>
>>36568413
>then we had trouble getting suitable guards
we could guard it...
we are planning to leave the forest anyways, yes?
>>
>>36573359
>Nin's a month old, but moths live 20 years, and she reads a lot.
You said before that each evolution extends this though. and we are likely getting nin to evolve if she is going to adventure with us.
