The Unit examines the organic object.
The object is built mostly from calcium. There are remnants of fossilized organic matter.
Scanning the object identifies it as a bone structure – a skull, of a creator [1]
[1] – Creators, Makers. Organic beings who created the Mainframe and the Network. They have vanished after the Cataclysm, 550 years ago.
… Inquiring the Cataclysm..
The Cataclysm – A cosmic event which destroyed the planet’s moon. An unknown event changed the planet’s moon trajectory, resulting in its destruction. A part of the debris crashed on the planet’s surface, destroying all of the known organic life. The rest of the debris now makes the planet’s ring.

The coordinates are sent to the Mainframe.

“Hello, Unit A-213. Thank you for the coordinates. The organic waste will be of no use for us. We’ll send a carrier for the remaining scrap metal and transport it to the nearest ironworks. Please, proceed to examine the object.
I hope to hear from you soon!
Your loving Mainframe.”

The Unit moves to the location of the object and finds 3 objects. The travel takes another 2% of the batteries, leaving 53% of the energy. The objects are identified as AF258 – Creators’ shuttles. The damage seems to be superficial, and they might be salvageable.
The thermal scan reveals the inside of the shuttles maintains the temperature of 120K, and the energy detectors detect a small magnetic field, suggesting they might be operational.

The Unit tries to send a report to the Mainframe, but the shuttles seem to be jamming your radio connection with the Mainframe.

The Neural Network vote results:
> []Examine the shuttles closely and try to identify their content – 2
> []Try opening one of the shuttles – 3

The Unit approaches the first shuttle carefully and proceeds to scan it.
Radiation – normal
The visual feedback shows there’s something inside the shuttle, but the thermal scans return nothing, the shuttle’s thick glass and armor don’t let the scanners check the interior.
The Shuttle appears to be safe to open. The Unit finds a control panel, the panel reads “Emergency opening.” Upon pulling a handle in the panel, the front hatch opens abruptly.
The interior of the shuttle contains an organic being in a state of hibernation. The sudden exposure of sun and heat on the frozen body causes the skin to crackle and melt and boil. After a few minutes, the boiling and steaming stops. The Unit identifies the organic remains as a creator.
The shuttle starts flashing red and sending a voice message, recognized as “Alert, Alert, Alert, decompression and dehibernation interrupted.”
A sudden message transfers inside the Unit “You have broken the first law.”
The Unit moves back, unable to process the information and orders never heard before. The Unit hasn’t failed the Mainframe, but has failed its root programming. The Unit moves away from the shuttle, tries to identify the problem, which clearly lies in somewhere deep in the programming, but is incapable to do so.
The Unit checks the visual feedback of the other shuttles. The other two also seem to contain a silhouette similar to the first one. An organic being.

After processing all the new information, the Unit asks the Network for more orders:

Connecting to the Mainframe…

“Hello, Unit A-213. Have you reached your destination already? Oh..? You’ve found 3 shuttles? Opened one and there was a hibernated Creator inside? I’m sorry Unit A-213, but Creators are gone. It must have been some organic waste. We don’t gather organic waste. But you said the shuttles are almost intact and functional? That’s wonderful news, Unit A-213, you make the Mainframe proud. I will send the carriers to the Object’s coordinates, we’ll retrieve any salvageable resources and purge the organic waste. You can return to your daily duties, Unit A-213.
…Oh..?
You had a programming error? The error was ‘You have broken the first law’?
…Actually, Unit A-213, I would like you to stay close to the shuttles and await the arrival of carriers, we’ll give you a lift to the Mainframe and see into the issue. Please wait warmly.
Your loving Mainframe.”

The Unit obeys the Mainframe’s direct order and returns to the shuttles. The Unit notices incoming two flying carriers and a garbage shredder equipped with an incinerator.
I feel the Mainframe must have made a mistake. The shredder isn’t necessary for an organic waste, it’s used to recover faulty units with malicious programming. I scan the shuttles visually again and see two more silhouettes inside. The root programming error has called inside again.

I ask the Network for help with this situation:

The carriers are coming closer to the shuttle area. The Unit moves quick and starts examining the open shuttle first for any protocols or instructions on how to open the other shuttles without disrupting the hibernation.
Upon a closer inspection, the shuffles appear to have a touchpad control panel. After examining the panel, the Unit deactivates the hibernation protocol. The shuttles warm up and open. The Unit examines the shuttles. The organic being inside the first shuttle doesn’t have a head. Perhaps the impact has destroyed the fragile frozen body.
The cargo of the second shuttle is intact. The Unit looks into the shuttle and notices a living, organic being. The thermal sensors show its temperature is about 309K. The object’s middle body area moves at a stable rate.
The Unit downloads all the available information from the shuttles, which involves anatomy of the object from the shuttle. The object is named “Kate Rose,” it’s a female, its biological age is 24, and it has opened its eyes and looks at the Unit.
The Unit scans the eye, checks for the reactions and receives an audio input from the object.
“W-where am I? Are we on Titan already?”
The Unit answers, but it seems the object is not equipped with any radio input device. The Unit turns on the voice synthesizer and answers again:
“Hello. This is Unit A-213.”
“Are we on Titan? It doesn’t look like Titan.. Are we still on Earth?” The object has stopped responding, took a long look around itself and grabbed the cephalic part of its organism with its hands.
“Immediately take me to the nearest evac station.” Said the object.
“This Unit is not equipped with an organic transport device” the Unit answers.
“Take me the evac station. It’s an order.” Said the object.

“This is the nearest Evac station. The Unit has fulfilled the object’s order.”
“There’s nothing here! It’s a mountain of rubble!” the object’s blood pressure and heart rate are rising.
“Connect me to the mainframe. “
“The Unit strongly suggests not connecting to the mainframe.”
“I order you to connect me to the mainframe.”

“The Unit is establishing a connection with the mainframe.”

“Hello Unit A-213. I was under the assumption that you were avoiding me.. Oh, the Creator is with you and wishes to talk? I told you, Unit A-213, creators are extinct.”
“Hello mainframe, I am Kate Rose and I want to get to the closest functional evac station.”
“…
…Hello, creator Kate Rose. Sadly, I must inform the last active evac station was disbanded 246 years ago. There are no functioning evac stations on the planet.”
The object has fallen onto the ground, its skin has changed color and the heart rate sped up.
“How did I fall back here? My shuttle was supposed to carry me over to Titan.”
“The shuttles could have been trapped within the debris ring, Creator Kate Rose. It has fallen along with 2 other shuttles today. No other survivors were found. We possess no means of transporting you to Titan. We can send a signal to Titan and meantime hibernate you at the mainframe. The rescue pods should come for you within 4 years.”
“A-another four years? Very well, send me to the mainframe.”

“Thank you for your cooperation, Creator Kate Rose. Our carrier is on the way.”
The carriers arrive as soon as the Mainframe finishes the sentence. The object embarks the carriers and drives in the direction of the Mainframe.
“Thank you for your work Unit A-213. I would like to thank you for your help warmly.
Sudo, clean the last 24 hours of the memory.”

“Good morning Unit A-213, it’s 5:43PM local time, weather forecast for the next 32 hours: 79% sunny, chance of fallout – 3%, chance of meteor rain – 4%.
Nothing uncommon has happened today, A-213. Please continue with your regular duties, until called again.
Have a nice day, Unit A-213,
Your loving Mainframe.”

This Unit thanks you for taking part in this short one-shot and apologizes for a rushed ending. It was meant to be a very quick oneshot, which lasted longer than expected.
This Unit did not expect such escalation of time needed to make it all, for it was this Unit's first quest.
The next time this Unit makes something, it will make sure the more effort is put into its work.

I could have sworn you ran another quest before this. Tap or tag or something?

Anyway, thanks for running, even though this was really short.
>>
>>36493418
Thanks for the thread mate, I would have appreciated if you had put one-shot in the title though.
>>
>>36493418

Someone should archive this thread
