>Population: 180 ( 7 villages, 2 islands, 5 heroes)
>Culture and Art: Your people wear a mixture of woven grass or seal/elephant hide/leather skirts and tunics, shoes and simple coral, shell, or bone/ivory jewelry. They also enjoy painting themselves and their Cave temple walls with Dry (mineral) dyes.
>The People: Your people organize themselves into casual family and extended family units with no formal structure or concept of marriage while Sages take a position of spiritual community leaders. Trade skills and services are practiced and traded casually and your people possess no concept of commerce. Ethnicity wise your people come in a variety of light to milk chocolate brown tanned freckled skin tones with white to milky yellow hair that is often braided or kept short and messy.
>Technology: Your people possess a wide variety of advanced stone tools and weaponry: Axes, Hammers, Chisels, Butcher knives, Spears throwers, obsidian spears, shark tooth clubs, weighted fishing nets, and stone slings. Homes possess stone foundations, wooden frames, and dried woven grass walling and roofs. Your people understand basic math and possess a quite accurate lunar calendar use to keep track of time. Stone working is surprisingly adapt: Megaliths and smaller Coastal structures stone structures have all been constructed.
>Magic: (17 "Sages".) Hydromancy and Geomancy are practiced for both practical and divination purposes. Your people possess a Megalith and Caves that are used for public and religious and magical practices
>Food: Abundant. Your people grow large Ochard-like Tree Gardens with Plantains, Mangoes, Breadfruit and Cashews grown within a long with sweet potatoes. Your people are also competent Fisherman, Hunters, Foragers, and Herders. Livestock include: Elephants, Chickens, and Banana Rats. Dried goods are stocked only on a personal basis.

+Previous Session: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/36329882/

Just a quick Re-cap, but last time we basically went out to explore the world beyond our island in search of outside threats, resources, and adventure. In our adventures we finally came upon the Northern island which was inhabited by a friendly tribe of coastal dwelling Cyclopes whom were assimilated into our civilization seamlessly, but now the "true" journey begins as we've finally step foot onto the "mainland"; a truly and utterly alien world unto itself.

Here's that crude drawing of the "world" from last time in case anyone needs a refresher. It's also been updated on where we've landed, where the northern island is located, and our "routes" so far.

Your expedition of (30 Cyclopes and 1 Hero) have finally made landfall on this strange and alien land and even though they are daunted and intimidated by the act of setting foot on such a strange new world the charisma of their leader inspires them to endeavor through the first few nights.

They begin by establishing a small camp: cutting down some of the local foliage and gathering some dryer palm-like material from the strange ferns that grow underneath the jungle foliage to act as bedding and roofing. A circle of shore-rocks is made into a fire pit and your Men settle down if only briefly.

>Idea: Code of Law
>Roll 29/100
>Bottom Quarter failure

Although your people are not angry, bitter, or naturally evil and island life is easy: increased populations have started to facilitate law, order, and punishment not needed in more archaic society. However, your people are easy going and social changes are slow and take time and effort to change: Though your people are not entirely lawless, their morals remain... "ambiguous" and only supported by familiarity and family bonds.

>Stockpile and Harvest Bamboo for use
>Roll 10/20
>half success

The island you've called home for your entire life has never seen the use of Bamboo: to your people it was a weed that saw no use what so ever and was simply cut down or burned as fire wood, but the Northern Cyclopes have been observed using Bamboo for everything from wooden tools to housing material and this trend has spread. All Cyclopes will now recognize and readily use Bamboo, but they prefer hardier woods from fruiting trees.

>Investigate the flora and Fauna of the mainland
>Roll 13/20
>Above Average Success

Your mainland party begins investigating the local flora and fauna of the mainland, this action however only proves that they have absolutely no jumping board or basis point for judging exactly what anything "is" or what it's "supposed to be".

>Flora
The Flora as far as you know is primarily dominated by humongous growths of featureless -sometimes porous- "vegitation" that grows straight up into the sky for a few dozen meters before extending outwards into a pillar that snows down a blanket of "pollen" and blocks out most of the suns light from escaping the canopy. The jungle floor however is filled with a host of glowing, brightly-coloured, and more "grassy" and "mossy" like plants that seem to cover the floor or otherwise wrap around the massive trunks of these "trees". Your people are actually quite intimidated by the jungle and going deep into it means to venture into almost complete darkness.

>Fauna
The Fauna is thankfully not entirely foreign: Numerous diverse reptiles, tropical birds including humming birds, and a plethora of insects are all readily visible. Your people are relieved to find that there are indeed Banana Rats on the mainland and they are more than happy to consume them, but for the most part it seems the mainland is so far dominated by Birds, Insects, and Reptiles- One of your braver hunters swear they spotted larger reptiles further inland.

>>36472942
>Cooking with Bamboo
>Rolled 2/20
>Complete Failure

None of your people actually know what to do with Bamboo beyond using it for construction or tool use. However, your people have begun burning it in their own ovens for cooking purposes due to just how common and accessible it is.
+Bamboo Charcoal has been accidentally invented. They find it an amazing alternative to cooking with wood and it can be used for both domestic and crafting goods due to how well it burns.
>>
>>36473291

>Guess nobody knows about how to cook yet.

If you're wondering about how the Cyclopes feed themselves they have a number of Techniques and tools:

We have stone ovens, kilns and Clay cooking ware available for a variety of Clay cooking recipies and techniques: Stews, Broths, Fried goodies, or roasted meats stuffed with fruit and then burried in hot rocks covered in banana leaves.

Numerous Fruits are all available and a lot of them are eaten either as is or chewed up and spat out into clay pots to make into fermented alcoholic juices. Plantains though are usually the ones that have "everything" and "anything" done with them: cut them and fry them in elephant/seal lard, dry them and ground them into flour to be made into porridge for the young/old, or just roast them together with white fish.

Fish and shellfish are also really present in local flavors since seafood is so utterly fucking simple to get: shellfish including oysters, molluscs, lobster, crab, are practically just scooped up by the handfuls and boiled or cooked over hot coals.

Red Meats and Fats from Elephant and Rat have become increasingly popular just because of how fucking delicious they are- It's a big deal to be able to roast an entire Elephant with some nice foraged greens, plantains, and eat it with the sages and the families. The fat can then be used to fry up numerous treats. Banana Rat is something enjoyed by everyone on a regular basis- They fatten up well and anyone can take care of them in their homes.
>>
Now we can roll.

>Clear and cut the "vegetation" to allow the construction of a coastal settlement.
>Roll 1/20
>Complete and Total Failure.

Your people are all to eager to clear the vegetation and begin building a proper frontier village: with the coast close by "traditional" food is never in short supply as your team of 30 simply skip down to the shore to forage and gather for seafood. The preparations to begin construction of the settlement however are a bit of a gong show: Any fire you attempt to start is quickly fizzled out and smothered by the spores that constantly snow down upon your efforts, the trees you wish to cut down prove to be incredibly thick, rubbery, and cutting them is an incredible hassle and most Cyclops give up before any real progress is made on even one tree- your stone tools simply won't cut it.

>Investigate and discover the source of commotion on the shores of 'our' territory
>Apposing Civilization roll Roll 45/100
>High Quarter failure

They hear you from within the jungle. They hear you from miles: you are clumsy, oafish, and you know nothing of it- they do not venture out into the clearings because they are not stupid, but they can see you from within the darkness.

Your Men manage to spot them: Strange beings, lots of them, with small reflective eyes- holstering and hanging from the branch-less "trees". Watching all of you. They're small, but there are dozens of them and when they notice they've been spotted they quickly disappear back into the darkness of the jungle.

>Establish a Harbour
>Roll 81/100
>Success

With the Traffic between the Northern island and your own home island the need for more boats for both personal and use for trade has become more president. There has been SO much construction and work on boats, wood working, and commitment towards crafting sea vessels worthy of being paddled from island to island that "Harbours" and Boat workshops have begun to develop on either islands: with small teams of full-time Cyclops committed to the crafting and upkeep of your sail-less ships.

+Full-time Trades discovered: Some of your people no longer have to feed themselves and can subsist off of providing a service to their community.

>Build Roads using Geomancy
>Roll 10/20
>Half Success

In their spare time your Sages have noticed that thoroughly walked dirt roads have begun to form between the paths taken by peoples moving between the villages on their islands. It's taken as a casual side project, but they decide it might make life easier if they smooth out the dirt roads so that they're easier to walk over. So they do. It's a simple matter and they're kept in condition when a Sage has nothing better to do- Casually Geomancing rocks on the side, smoothing the dirt, or sweeping the water and clearing mud from them.
+Dirt Road Accidentally invented.

>>
>>36474227

>>
>>36473964
Some thoughts here.
Ideas:
Supply lines. We can give the frontier colony a bonus on their rolls this way maybe, but if we send a steady stream of boats with supplies back and forth we may be able to create useful communications rates, improve trade between our islands, and provide other benefits.

Including evacuation when we get fucked by other island tribes.

Trading posts: Self explanatory, but this is an attempt at offering olive branches to other groups. Primitives often left gifts out for other tribes/peoples in an attempt to get trade started through gift exchange. Create a prominent location, could be as simple as a stump or a rock circle, and leave gifts (food, for example). Repeat this. They may get the idea.

Irrigation and bamboo plumbing: easier than kiln-fired pipes. Improves hygine if you build baths, improves food income if you want to support more specialists with less farmers. Eventually it can be integrated into houses.

Springhouses: Find a spring, excavate its source, build a hut over the resulting pit, and it gets cold enough to be free primitive refrigeration.

Bamboo weapons: throwing spears, regular spears, arrows for huge cyclops-sized bows, maybe even as a material for armor for all I know.

Sail-powered boats: Bamboo masts and other gear for ships. Woven fabrics and hides for sails. Less labor intensive sailing, less food and rowers required, more room for cargo.

Any more you guys have?

Basically, maybe something about us and the Mainlanders smiling and exchanging gifts
>>
>>36474311
Fish farms: Anchor fishing nets so one end is on the sea bottom and the other end is attached to a float. Do this with enough nets to create a sort of fenced off area to raise fish in, or just dig a pond adjacent to a small lake and set up a net at the inlet. Dump live fish in there in a predator-free area, get fish farm.

Floating gardens/chimpanas: stake out a portion of lake bed with bamboo, fill gaps between stakes with wattle (bamboo + clay) or kiln-baked bricks, layer fenced-off area with mud, sediment, and dead/dying plants until above water level. Space out so a boat can pass between them and you now have superfarms. SEVEN harvests a year. Ridiculous. Not even funny.

Terrace gardens: Productive use of land for any hill or mountain tribes. Level strips of land on a slope, build retaining walls between them for a step-effect, build farms on level areas.

>CURRENCY<
>Roll 96/100
>SO IT BEGINS. THE FIRST STEP OF MANY. CAPITALISM HO.

Your people have begun to settle down in trades and services that otherwise don't involve just farming, foraging, or gathering: some people make pots, some people craft tools, some people carve ornaments, jewelry, (your sages for that matter never actually work and just get drunk and do magic while administering advice or delivering babies) while a host of people have begun to entirely exist on farming or herding. All these things and more have made trading in "increments" a little more needed- especially with strangers. Strangers; something that hasn't happened until recently.

Your people have begun trading in Ammonite Shells. Ammonites are quite common and you don't do have any use for the shells beyond piling them up after you've cooked and eaten the squid that once lived in it. They were picked though specifically because an Ammonite shell has come to represent "1 hour of work because that's how long it takes in total to scoop it out of the ocean, de-beak it, cook it, and suck out the delicious rubbery meat of the "shellfish".

YOUR CURRENT CURRENCY IN USE IS NOW THE AMMONITE SHELL.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CPuTqSGLo4

We'd have to carve them out of a whole tree and the strings might have to be giant spider silk or elephant/dragon/shark tendons something, but we'd probably be able to dominate with them.

Arrows made of a couple hundred bamboo halfspears tied around a central shaft that came untied when fired, showering the enemy below with heaps of projectiles, seem close to ideal for dealing with massed opponents or even faster hunting. Wouldn't even need to create tips for them, could just sharpen the bamboo.

We'd get better direct aim because one eye means direct line of sight vision, but depth perception screwups means indirect bombardment would require independent spotters and rangefinding shots. Or magical rangfinding lenses for our eyes, later on.

Your current expedition on the mainland has slowly become something of a casual village as rafts and boats have begun paddling back and forth from the neighboring northern island to come check up on the expedition and then either going back home immediately or staying.. simply amazed by the expanse of alien vegetation and overcome with wonder.

How to deal with the mysteries beings that live within the underbrush has become something of a concern though, but the census that has been reached is to be patient and designate an Area that will be comfortable for mutual exchanges.

Your people drag with Ropes and brute force a large, black, volcanic rock from the ocean (The jungle being devoid of such stones): smoothing the edges with Geomancy and stone chisels before venturing deep, deep, deeper, into the jungle for a nice spot that's evenly between the coast and the darkest depths of the jungle your people refuse to go.

You dig a hole, carve grooves into the bottom of the Stone Megalith, and then finish it with kind and welcoming carvings and a few short hymns that are pleasant to be read and heard before fitting it into the earth with key stones and burying it. A Small stone platform is also placed at the foot of the Megalith where pots of Dried Fish, Delicious Fruits, Beautiful Flowers and Corals native to your Home islands are laid out as peace offerings before your Men flee back to the coast.

A few days later your people finally receive an answer: The food and the flowers are gone and in their place: a single mysterious roll of Gorgeous Red and Black "?fabric?" and a woven basket filled with dried mushrooms and several "rolled" portions of salted snake meat.

CYCLOPS PUBERTY.

For maybe the first 30 or so years of a Cyclopes life Men and Women are reasonably indistinguishable in terms of secondary sexual characteristics. Males and Females are around the same height, both possess little to no body hair, and both relatively lithe and androgynous in their appearance. Bisexuality is rampant.

That is until they enter into a kind of "second puberty" when the reach their mid 40's. Males become noticeably more muscular, barrel chested, and rougher around the edges- and their white peach fuzz grows into magnificent, full, thick, silver or grey, straight haired flowing beards. Females as well start to put on a lot more weight in all the right places developing pronounced curves, larger more exaggerated heaving breasts, and officially become ready for breeding at this point. Body hair however remains sparse and uncommon among both genders.

Though, your people only usually live into their 70's or 80's.. so "second puberty" has not begun to define your lives or society quite yet.

Meanwhile on the island communities and your home island: Some of your Farmers and Wood cutters have begun to experiment with Bamboo in the sense that they've begun passing water through it. Now, as it has not been mentioned before, but the majority of the water in your people's diet actually comes from the fruit and vegetation you eat- your Species is actually quite adapt at digesting vegetation and sucking every last bit of moisture out of it. You can even drink small amounts of sea water without ill effect.

Your gardens can't however and when the rain comes they can occasionally become parched, thirsty, and not all of them can drink salt water. With the use of Bamboo, a spot of Hydromancy, and determination you've begun to channel in water from the mainland and the hills into your Orchards. With the success of the of the Irrigation within the Fields though, soon villages wish to have Freshwater coming into their villages and eventually almost every village has a number of Bamboo pipes and channels feeding in freshwater for public use.

Wood, Ivory, Coral, and stone carvings and other works of art depicting our people and their culture have been laid out and exchanged at the designated sight of peace and commerce and in exchange items have been left behind out of good will or to simply keep up appearances: Dried and Fresh Mushrooms, Baskets with Dried meat including not just snake, but entire strips of some mysterious smoked red meat and of course the fine fabrics and jewlery- such fine clothes are completely beyond your people and have been hoarded by your mainland community.

>FIRST CONTACT<
>Roll 66/100
>Ominous Doubles.

One day instead of food and treasure there is the quiet sound of weeping. There on the stone offering table is a single female, her skin tone is an extremely pale pearl-white complexion reminiscent of the moon with an off-tint purple hue on her forearms, breasts, and collar from recently washed off body dyes. Her hair is an unkempt mess of black hair and writhing black, blue, and orange snakes with her face possessing TWO eyes and a black streak of paint across them now slowly smearing from her tears. Her clawed scale-covered hands and feet are bound together with minor rope burns suggesting a struggle.

All these things draw to the conclusion that she has been placed their by force: An exile? A fugitive? A sacrifice? A Slave? These concepts are a little beyond your people and your Men are eager to release the Small woman as she is the size of a child, stripped of clothes, and the sight of a weeping woman bothers them.

What shall be done? She was initially visibly frightened and panicked by the presence of your people and so to were your Cyclopes alarmed by her presence- but the situation has calmed down and both sides are excersizing caution.
>>
>>36475727
Attempt to speak to her. I'm going to guess she won't understand, but there should be an attempt.

Give her clothes, food, and a small hut of her own. Perhaps tools for fishing as well.

She may look hideous, but there is nothing in this world that is unknown or unloved by the Gods.

>Roll 88/100

Your people have begun to pile up.. quite a substantial amount of garbage, shit, and refuse: The smell can be quite bad at times, the sight of it is unappealing, and after slipping on shit one too many times while walking in the villages many of your communities leaders have finally had enough.

Exercising the same practices exhibited traditionally by the coastal communities: Villages have begun to designate dumping areas where fruit rinds and other organic matter may be safely thrown out to rot. Meanwhile, Clay pots have begun to be used as "Shit pots" where Civilized Cyclopes may go to the bathroom in dignity before it is chucked out into a much larger pot that individuals within the community take turns dumping into a separate dump that is much father away and consist of a large hole in the ground that is burned before it begins to overflow.

>Back on the Mainland

Your Cyclopes cut the Woman free of her tiny bonds with a flint hand dagger and get her back up onto her feet. She does not run away and she does not express aggression and willingly follows behind your people when addressed: it seems she was indeed left there with return not being an option.

When she is brought forth to the village she is met by the Hero of your expedition, there he and the rest of the community adorn her in all manner of gifts: the exquisite fabric is given to her, she is fed fruit, fish, and fine cuts of meat and shellfish before she begins to weep openly once more.

She draws a crude drawing in the sand that depicts her being carried off from her community by a host of other woman like herself to be placed upon the stone table. The next drawing depicts what she assume her fate will be:Several drawings of a cyclopes wrapping his hand around her waist and "wearing her" like how an adolescent would wear a soft, worn, melon with a "hole cut in one end".

It appears she assumed she was to be raped.

We might be on thin ice here, OP.
Let's tell her we aren't going to rape her and try to find out why she was selected. Is this a product of their justice system? Punishment for a specific village?

I can only imagine this to be an assault on the honor of our people.

Have our hero try to reassure her and set aside a hut for her. We must begin teaching her our language.

What we have here is a guide for the mainland. She might not know absolutely everything, but she may know of the elves and of her own people, as well as the surrounding area and the usefulness of certain plants and animals.

She is a gift from the gods as far as I'm concerned.

>Establish a written Alphabet
>Rolled 43/100
>Below Middle Failure. +Cencus Reached. +History of Song. +Cave Drawings

Your people have lived for generations without any written language or alphabet, and in truth language has always been something that has quietly developed quite naturally and casually as people have simply communicated to one another with language vaguely following behind. However, your people have always been very prominent and advent consiours of the finest songs, hymns, musics, and choruses that walked the line between the spiritual, magics, and shaped the very way you saw the cosmos and your world.

You've had and continue to have a deep and rich history of song etched upon the walls of great Megaliths and even humble caves and from these practices: The Written word eventually came to rise.

The written word is not something your people sing, they are not words of power or inspiration, but are currently dull and quiet uninspired words that are meant for matters between people and not spirits: business, hunting, trades, etc.. All these things have brought a demand for written language and records and so it has begun.

Should we list an idea and two actions in one post, then roll for them separately? We can't roll different sized dice in the same post. We could make the actions d100s and roll 3d100 in a post or something if you want.

What about the concept of local rulers as an idea?

Have some powerful sages or merchants be tasked or elected to improving the local island. Less monarchy, more city states. And they should meet to discuss things on a regular basis.

Or would that lead to our society fracturing? I think we'll run into trouble if we don't improve our political structure in some way.
>>
>>36476575
It lead to the greeks fracturing because they developed communal identities in the absence of a binding myth of the whole greek people.

It lead to the Romans having to expand and conquer everyone to put the idea of the city-state to rest by making it obstolete.

Venice lived through this because they developed a complex government and a myth of their state as ideal and divinely ordained, so betraying it or breaking away would require the ability to convince your whole frontier town that everything they'd been taught was wrong.

It's best we wait until we've created a myth of the people, or better yet several, that glorify unity and our place in the sunlight/under the starlight, as a whole.
>>
>>36476646
So basically, we have to create the idea that we all belong to a specific binding and indivisible civilization?

Okay. I'm down with that. Might even help elvish and medusa immigrants assimilate.
>>
>>36476575
I see no reason for that. What's good for the people has always been decided by the people. That system has worked with no problems for their entire history.

>Teach the ?Gorgon? our Language in hopes of exchanging Cultural information
>Roll 7+6+5=18/20
>Success through consecutive census rolls.

The small Woman proves to be a quick learner of our comparatively simple language, her own native speech is ironically enough exceedingly advanced, sophisticated, sharp, and quickly spoken- a stark contrast from your own. Open simple communication is established within a few months and within additional time information is being freely exchanged while she is entrusted as a guide: She demonstrates proper trapping techniques, sources of fresh water, and demonstrates the ability to make a Bow and Fletched arrows to use to s hunt birds with great accuracy.. Unfortunately this technology remains beyond your people if only because you lack the depth perception for such accuracy, but just as well because the small bows snap pathetically when used by your people.
The trade between your communities though continue and island goods continue to be laid out before they are exchanged with more exotic mainland goods: Jewelry, Dried snake meat, Fabric, and the occasional tied and bound woman to join the ranks. This actually goes on for a while- further escalating when someone suggests offering a few head of livestock.

These "gorgons" have begun to make up a sizable portion of the coastal community and their culture has started to become more noticable: Weaving by hand a mysterious fabric from an as of yet undiscovered source within the jungle, finely hand-crafted and sophisticated jewlery crafting techniques practiced on the coral and ivory given to them, and numerous hot and savory spices collected from the jungle being brought into cooking.

>>36476898
You know what I fucking mean!

It's still important to figure out how to safely assimilate the gorgons into our culture and religion. That means providing explanations for why two eyes isn't a bad thing per se.

If left unchecked, they could become a minority population that extremists could be violent towards.
>>
>>36476923
Why? This is pretty profitable, and seemingly it's better for the gorgons to be here than there. Certainly it is something to think on,an expedition to the Gorgon settlment
>>
>>36476962
I don't actually, Two eyes means something has yet to prove good enough to have one eye, and thereby it is the goal of a cyclops to ensure a two eye has the chance to ascend to being a cyclops. That's how I remember it from the last thread
>>
>>36476991
I don't know if we made that official yet.
>>
>>36476898
Which we have given anthropomorphic qualities to, so they're either primitive gods or proto-gods. Plus there was discussion about how animals have two eyes and we have one eye so the creator god has ZERO EYES OH WOW BLIND GODS.

>>36476879
Well, we can begin to develop our own counterparts. What else can we do except create our own weavers and crafts? For those that we simply cannot manage because of physical constraints like our hands being too large to manipulate fine machinery or something, we'll have to produce an identity centered around alternate ideas or cultural concepts. Can't use bows for hunting because depth perception? Create arrows that break up and shower the enemy with barbs like anon suggested in >>36474714

We'll develop a more sophisticated language over time as well. Again, nothing for it but to try our own hand at it as we advance.

If you're concerned about them being alien, we already know this crap from efforts made in a previous thread: things with more than our number of eyes are not like the eyeless creators we can create an epic detailing how we bring enlightened virtues to somewhat bestial peoples who trade rape victims to us for food. I mean, it's clear they need to be enlightened, but the idea that they can be suggests they're not base animals. Admittedly domesticating animals may serve to 'enlighten' them, too.

Plus gorgons/medusas have lots more than two eyes: they have eyes on every snakehead, and are thus like the many-eyed Stars.

>CALL FORTH THE ROCK. MAKE A DEMAND OF THE EARTH.
>roll 19/20.
>Success.

On your Home island the Sages have been at work communing with the various islands they've begun to frequent in their spare time and the Songs of Earth and Water have become progressively louder and more clearer with the abundance of food and the ability to document and exchange their Hymns and Songs through written word and diagrams carved into soft volcanic stone tablets using Geomancy.

This has allowed an unprecedented amount of sophistication and acceleration in the Art of both Geomancy and Hydromancy: Small Waves may be created, Earth may be melded and moved, Water may be called forth from the very air itself, and most interesting of all- Rock. Right from the depths of the world.

It is a Strange rock- The Earth spits it out quite readily and easily before it closes up the seem left behind in the earth like a great wound. The Rock starts out Black before quickly becoming Red when exposed to the Air- Any further attempt at Moving or commanding it are met with an agonizing, trumpeting, loud, song that echoes and blares into the mind of the individual who dares to hymn a command to it.

It adds something to our eye-related thinking.

One eye is some sort of unity of action, if I remember right. The warlike tribe of cyclopses that washed up on our island shores worshipped only the sun and not the stars.

The stars are a multiplicity of eyes, suggesting many eyes can see what one eye cannot. One eye hass blind spots, but many eyes and many purposes grant true wisdom.

This is a continuum.

One end is the Single Eye, the Unity of action and thought, a focus like war or great undertakings (think building a pyramid) that blocks out other efforts.

The other end is the Many Eyes, the Diffusion of wisdom seen from many perspectives that is inclusive in its nature, informing cultural values like acceptance of other peoples - especially in peacetime, for trade, or when multiple efforts are available.

This should be the basis of a philosophy that brings us into a newly enlightened age.

You know what, guys, we have a problem.

Our ability to produce food is outstripping our ability to defend ourselves.

We need to correct this strategic imbalance or we'll get taken over by a militant people and be made into their farmer-slaves like what happened when Sparta conquered its neighbors.

For a strong army we will first need to ramp up food stockpiling and production enough so that we're efficient enough to keep people at arms anytime, and we will secondly need to beef up our numbers and our navy, not to mention our weapons.

For this I propose we establish contact with the other islands and especially any cyclopses living on them, aggressively pursue the food-related research like floating gardens, terrace farms, and fish farms mentioned above, and get weapons.

That'll eventually require metal and our connection to the earth should really give us a leg up there.

We need to create a big enough food stockpile to give logistics support to an army anyway, it's best to do agricultural research and explore other islands for more gorgons to add to the people first.

I hate to be Ancient History Fag but this brings to mind the fact that the Romans beat the shit out of everyone else in part due to the fact that they could keep their army from starving and the starved soldiers from having weakened immune systems that lead to disease in the camp in the first place, then having a good breakfast before battle.

Their starving, hungry, undisciplined enemies typically panicked and broke much faster just because of that.

Although your people enjoy crafting and producing numerous forms of pottery for cooking and domestic and trade purposes- there doesn't yet remain much of a market for "supliferous" artistic pottery and it remains in it's current position as just something to hold, cook, or contain things.

>Cultural Revolution: Many Eyes
>Roll 71/100
>Above Average success. +Census Reached.

With the addition and continually growing population of Gorgons on the mainland coastal community your people find it difficult to ignore the cultural biases towards one eye being necessarily the all-superior rural of the world and begin to more slowly accept the benefits of the cultural and commercial progress of MANY EYES. The Stars begins to not only just hold cultural ties towards the ancestors of many blinking cycloptic eyes- but the eyes of potentially numerous other beings and species that could be watching. This attitude isn't shared by "all cyclopes", but it is relatively popular ideal on the mainland- especially the ones who keep Gorgons as neighbors and attendants.

>+In-Direct Cultural response
>Cross-Species Marriage

Your Cyclopes men living upon the Mainland have grown exceedingly comfortable around the presence of Gorgons and the expected has happened: Cyclopes taking Gorgon Wives into their homes. These unions (not limited to 1 Gorgon wife at a time) have lead to no Cycloptic or Cross-bred Children, but instead have lead to the discovery of how exactly Gorgons give birth. Gorgons lay eggs. They lay 1-2 (American football sized) eggs that have a kind of semi-firm not quite leathery shell. The Eggs ALWAYS hatch into females that grow up into women identical to their mothers. Your people do not actually know how Sex works, so they don't question this. The Gorgons do not seem alarmed either..

The Great Megalith on the Main land suffers a tremendous crack that breaks off the top portion of it and shatters the bottom half- The from both islands and even one from the mainland community come forth to try and sing a soothing chorus to the stone to try and mend it- BUT IT IS OF NO USE!!!

The broken off portion of the Megalith slowly rises from the ground and a single perfectly cylindrical hole forms in the exact center of the large- sand and gravel pouring out of it seemingly from nowhere. The fragmented pieces of the Megalith come forth to form a vague humanoid shape before it summons forth further Earthen mass to join it's form.

It then proceeds to go on a small rampage: lashing out at the sages, attempting to burry them alive in sand, crush them underneath it's stone hands and feet until it's furry is satisfied. The Sages try to invite it into a duet, what IMPUDENCE, what ARROGANCE- The elemental sends out such a scathing return symphony that several sages are knocked immediately unconscious.

All 5 of your Heroes conjoin onto the island to defeat the Elemental. After it is finally defeated: The sages spend months apologizing via constant animal sacrifices and offerings of the finest, purest, sea salts while allowing themselves to be lectured by the stars, moon, and the sun.

They might not even know why they were taken. They might think there is something wrong with them.

And the prospect of being raped isn't exactly appealing either.

Personally, I don't have a problem with medusa being cuckoos, but their breeding would have to be monitored and the possibly could be deported to the medusa village. And definately restricted to the mainland and denied access to the other islands.

You're a numerous and abundant people and it has come once again to explore the numerous islands that string a long the Southern East Reefs of this world.. And with a Great many Boats and eager settlers you venture onto TWO additional new islands: One large one existing in the "bay" of the mainland and another that exists off the coast in line with the other volcanic reefs.

>Bay Island
This island is almost as large as your own (your own taking about a week for a cyclopes to walk from one end to the other) and like your own it houses familiar and comforting vegetation: Beautiful palm trees, fruiting plants, edible grasses, and even has a few herds of indigineous Elephants peacefully grazing and dwelling upon the island. This land makes an Excellent spot and the people who voyage onto it soon develop two villages: one inland, and one on the coast.
>+1 Village, 1+ island, +35 people

>Reef Island
The Reef island is long, but it is narrow and your people are not surprised to see that a nomadic coastal community of indigenous Cyclops live upon it as well: They are true to form actually quite simple people and entirely make an existence off of foraging for shellfish, fish, and edible grasses and vegetation in between swimming or rafting from island to island. They are Moon worshippers and their assimilation into your dominant culture is..met with initial resistance, but they eventually warm up to Elephant Roasts and Fruit Alcohol.
>+2 Villages, 1+ island, +55 people

>Hear the Hymn of the Gorgon.
>Roll 10+5/20
>Above Average Success. +Gorgon population. +Gorgon Love

The one Sage whom dwells on the Mainland has grown curious about the song that the Gorgons must sing and the Sage beckons the very first Gorgon to have ever been accepted into the community. She has grown old. Her exile into the village seems so long ago and she reminisces on how she expected the worst out of our people but instead received the best- living long, siring many daughters, and living a pleasured and rich life. She would welcome an Audience to come listen to the song of her people so the Sages might come to understand her people.

The Sage is Brought out and guided into the Jungle- Deep, deep, deep into the jungle where no Cyclopes has ever been before and he becomes overwhelmed by his surroundings alone, by the old gorgon asures him that everything is fine.

He cannot see it clearly, but he is guided by hand to a large Circle of "Trees" that have carved into their "trunks" going all the way up their "stalks" the finely detailed carved image of massive Snakes coiled around the trees and going up straight into the canopy until the snakes open mouths are carved into the "caps" of the trees. They both sit down and the Gorgon mixes and grinds a boiled broth for the Cyclop to drink.

He Quaffs the tiny potion and enters into a Deep sleep: The jungle around him melts away into a sea that quickly envelopes him before he realizes the waves and whirlpool he experiences is a massive, black, snake. The snake coils around him like a great circling cluster of stars in the depths before a Great eye of the Serpent meets that of the Sage.

"You come to know the Nature of my Daughters? Because that is what they are; a coiling mass of Sisters, Daughters, and Mothers that have Never known Men nore may ever will."

((Part 2 coming up.))
>>

>>36478490

The great snakes coils begin to unwind and the Sage falls into the darkness and as he falls the stars that surround him begin to flash and meld into one another from the speed of his descent.

The Snakes voice echoes from a direction he cannot truly comprehend, "But you wish to know of "them", yes? Those who came down from the moon- Who think they owe some great domain over Snakes that should swallow them like the Rabbits they are... You will find them. Your Stars and Sun have proclaimed it and like how the Sun grows resentment of how the Moon insolently eclipses it- so too will you bring a shadow to these long eared creatures that have brought misery to my Daughters and eventually to your people."

The Stars continue to speed along until their great swaths of light form into individual shining, luminescent, beacons of moon-light light and each individual ray projects forth the image of a pure and pale Gorgon maiden and they all extend their small, perfect, flawless, clawed little hands to grasp each individual finger of the Wizened Cyclops sage.

A great and foreign Hymn Echoes across the Canopy of the jungle and into the minds of each individual Sage amongst your people- repeating the private symphony sung to that one individual Cyclops Sage.

The Gorgon accompanying your Sage is in hysterics- She did not realize how sensitive your people where to Magic and your sage refuses to wake up. Instead, a great beam of pure moonlight extends into the forest to cut through the darkness and as tears well up in the single closed eye of your sage: His Soul visible siphons and waft from his eye, mouth, and the palms of his hands and feet and into the starry cosmos above.

>Success +Hydromancy, +Geomancy

With the use of stone tools and Geomancy your people begin digging out large expanded layered indents outside their villages and within the soft volcanic rock that dots the smaller islands. When these indents reach the size of fields and the depth of about thigh deep they are then allowed to be build through naturally collecting rain waters, pots of water being carried to them, and a small helping hand from hydromancy. Rarer and more uncommon fresh water fish are then netted and stocked into these ponds- so that inland communities may have access to fish and crayfish.

A similar process is replicated near coastal communities only instead Sea waters are channeled in to fill them and they are usually stocked with AMMONITES. Ammonites: their shells used for commerce, themselves fed on plankton, and their rubbery delicious meats eaten.

Your Sages are abuzz with that unusual Symphony that Cosmic snake sung to them and they can't help but express themselves through dance, nor can they help get associate that Great cosmic Snake with the Ocean. Numerous Sages have begun to slowly teach themselves a new form of rythming, moving, wavering, dance that comes in and out like that Tide and has allowed them to express the songs of Water in new and unconventional ways: Compressed prolonged blasts of Water, Whips of elongated water, and the most powerful ability- the ability to steam, fume, and summon forth a small cloud of boiling steam from the air itself that futters and fumes.

The Sages however don't use it for force at the moment- the use it for recreation and opt instead to shoot blasts of water and one another like the drunken idiots that they are. Even their puffs of steaming, boiling, water, and simply summoned with a flick of the wrist to dampen ones clothing and mess up their hair.

>Near complete success.

With the ominous prophecy of "long eared" folk still fresh in the minds of your sages and even the Gorgons assuring the existence of such beings, the idea of combat, defense, and perhaps even hunting down these people has not become foreign to your kind. Your people in turn have begun to casually make weapons on the side and stock pile food- if only out of caution and a mix of paranoia-. Stone and Wood workers from both Cycloptic and Gorgon walks of live craft spears, bows, arrows, shark-tooth clubs, axes, and nets in greater abundance than previously and there is a general encouraged behavior among the communities to train- play fighting with wooden and bamboo toys becoming incredibly popular.

So I was thinking about colors for some reason.

In previous threads where we have had cave drawings we used Black/dark colors as like a foundation color (figures drawn in black and decorated with colors). And was wondering about what we use to symbolize things?

Sun= Red/yellow
Stars= Light Blue/White

What do we do for the moon?
I was messing with simple CYMK kind of colors. Was wondering if Dark Blue would transition too much with the Cyan we have for stars? what about Magenta? an unnatural color choice I know but still. Maybe the moon is weirdly colored. Or black and blue?

And I know we haven't encountered them yet but I was doodling some Cave Painting elfs.

You guys want to talk about anything? Myth stuff? Visual stuff? Like do our gorgons have legs or do they slither on snake tails?

I'm tempted to draw the "Prophesy of the Snake" as described >>36478490 and >>36478676

what is the nature of the sagely deaths? does every death have the spirit wafting out the eye(s) Mouth and palms?
>>
>>36480137
We should make monoliths and probably record the lives of the sages that gave themselves for the people.

We should also consider some Epics of the People. Not necessarily Trojan War kinda stuff but maybe something kinda like Gilgamesh. Only about the people as a whole, with less in the way of glorification of heroes.
>>
>>36480137
We're probably gonna have to bring the moon into our pantheon.

It'd be better to settle the long-standing dispute between the elves and gorgons than to go to war, anyway.
>>
>>36480188
Maybe the general story of the first Mainland colonists?
>>
>>36480193
That would be ideal I think. And much more in keeping with our beliefs and culture up to this point.
>>
>>36480204
It can be something that starts with the very first group and the hymns of the people.

Honestly, exactly the kind of thing we've probably been carving on our monoliths.
>>
>>36480137
>Like do our gorgons have legs or do they slither on snake tails?

They have Legs- it's mentioned the first time you encounter one that she's bound up by her legs/ankles and wrists left as an offering at the monument. Gorgons though have patches of "scales" that start from their hands and extend half way to their elbows- They have the same set up on their legs with the scales petering out into normal pale, smooth, flesh halfway to their knees.

Sorry if that wasn't clear.
>>
>>36480193
Well I think it might be an idea to include the moon in a semi antagonistic kind of role. Again its been mentioned before but as a Loki type figure. A trickster god, the great obscurer. Holder of great wisdom but with a price. Not as warm or strong as the sun, nor as accepting and open as the stars. The moon at times covers both and obscures the sun. The moon holds grudges silently and for a long time.

The Moon is the eye that closes.

The sun and stars are always there and eyes that are always open.
>>
>>36480246
Yeah. We can maybe involve fables into the story. I mean the central element to sagely rituals caused the death of the very first sage.

the fermented fruit alcohol tapped into the joyous energies of the sages, yet causes them to slip and fall. A fable for the nature of the magical hymns, A great and wonderful boon to those who use it wisely and sparingly, but to go into excess can cause death. If anything describes our people's experiences with magic its that. A little goes a long way but sometimes we over step our boundaries and cause bad things to happen.

We drink too much and slip and fall on our head.
>>
>>36480325
except in the daytime when the stars are gone

>>36480361
>Let me tell you the tale ot Arero-Tuatahi.
>The first great sage of our people would lead us in chorus on the first days.
>On earliest walls he showed his student Pieta-Tahi, the nature of his dreams, he was inspired.
>It was together that they would eventually sing to the water and make it dance.
>Under many sunny days and starry skies they talked and wondered.
>The day the elephants showed them to enhance their state of mind.
>The fruit that falls from the tree mixed with time makes a strange concoction.
>It liberates the humors and gives rise to more joyous dance.
>The two sages drank and were merry.
>But Arero-Tuatahi had drunk to heavily of the elixir, and fell.
>And fell hard.
>The elder sage died, and did not ascend well.
>A warning this is, to those that meddle in magic.
>It is great power when wielded in responsible hands.
>In irresponsible hands you tempt the sun, and join the stars before your time.

>Sun Worship; The Great Burning Eye that yearns
"What is the sun, but a great single eye of fire that rules the sky and provides? Surely this world was made for us to rule; the Cyclops" +Aggressive+

>Moon Worship; The Great Pale Eye that weeps
"What is the moon, but a great single eye that watches over us and illuminates the night sky? Surely this world was made to be observed and studied- to enlighten it's secrets it owes to us the Cyclops." +Defensive+

>Star Worship; The Great Many Eyes that form the sky
"What are the Stars, but a great many single eyes constantly watching, blinking, and making up the night sky? Surely this world is made up of an innumerable souls, and we must act with wisdom and discretion as they watch us." +"Middle ground"+

Just call him the First Sage, it's more in keeping with the fact that this all happened in the stone age before we even had writing let alone a concept of individuals mattering more than the People, the Family. Hell, we didn't even think of the People then, just Family and the sage that led them.

What are its virtues?
-weeping, grief
-defense, 'watching over us,' overwatch
-observation, study, knowledge
-enlightenment
-secrecy

If you want to do something related to that kind of clandestine stuff, go ahead. It's no Loki, there's no trickery. There are secrets that must be bought with the blood of our people, as the earth-songs turned against us and sought to crush us, as the water-songs boiled our sages alive.

The Moon is the weeping eye that shelters the souls of our Sages after they make their fatal mistakes. It is sorrowed for us, because it knows we will ask it for its secrets and it knows we will fuck up and die, repeatedly.

It weeps like the old Gorgon when the sage she wanted to share knowledge with did not awaken. Such is the cost of wisdom.

Now this is good. Very good. Seems a whole lot more unique than the Trickster god shtick.

Would it be a good idea to look into taking precautions to prevent more magical disasters? And how would we go about doing that?

The red rocks obviously are uncommandable by magic.

I think they are in fact iron, which is historically generally seen as good defense against spells and magic creatures.

We don't possess the ability to work it into weapons or armor yet, or even to shape it

So these elves aren't nice but on the other hand they haven't done anything to us, and are still trading. Maybe we can try to meet them in person next time

We'll see. I'm pretty sure they're dark elves/feral wood elves. What kind of elf lives in complete darkness and trades in slaves?

We should really invent smelting by starting with copper, tin, zinc, etc and work our way up.

Shrines and an infrastructure, maybe. More food means we can afford more sacrifices, it may just be best to sit around developing agriculture and increasing our sacrifical rate with the surplus.

what we should do is talk to the Medusa directly

Seeing this thread got me all hopeful there was another session. Polite sage.
