Akari-niji-chan, Er Yin-sensei, please accompany us.” Yui-niji-chan blinks and hugs your wife again, who strokes her staticky hair and kisses the top of her head. Yuuhi-chan hops up and walks over to Shoko, speaking in Ainu; Kiku-chan and Er Yin-sensei join in the conversation, which becomes fairly involved, very quickly. “Sorry to interrupt – Kiku-chan, can you arrange a ride to Saint Mary's for me? I want to talk with those goof-ball Jesuits first.” That does get you a disapproving stare from your sister as well as Kiku-chan – though Er Yin smiles slightly. “Ah, gomen, gomen.”

Jinyuu-onee-sama's stare hardens, she's not buying that one bit. Well, not that you were trying all that hard to hide your feelings. Er Yin says one last thing to Yuuhi-chan, who bows slightly and seems pleased before Akari takes her hand and follows you.

Glancing at the rather decorous formal robes, designed both to impress and to indicate your ties with the members of your family, you palm the needles and comb with which you tied your hair up. “Not exactly the most tomboyish of looks, is it? I'm not much for formal wear, but this was a special case.” Akari stops you from unwinding the obi yourself and stands before you, assisting your wife in taking your clothing off, much to your chagrin. “Ugh, with you two doing all the work, I feel useless, no offense meant to you, Kiki-hime.” Er Yin smiles at that.

Kiki-hime laughs softly. “I wasn't this pampered, Ryu-chan!” Akari glances up at you, her eyes dancing with unspoken laughter. “Still, it really is lovely. Perhaps next festival....” Akari is turning her had and....and seems to be pinching her nose, her eyes closed and her cheeks blushing. You're not sure if she's suppressing a nosebleed or about to throw up.

Presuming the former, you glance back at Kiki-hime and ask softly, “Do you really think it suits me, 'hime?” She starts to answer with a smile, and something about your expression makes her pause. Kiki looks at you seriously and then steps close, gently taking your outer robes off. “Yes, Ryukusa. I think it suits you very well.” Her hand caresses your hair and smooths it gently as you look away, your heart fluttering.

As Akari assists you with the inner robes, you murmur softly. “You're still wearing red for me at our wedding, Kiki-hime. But means a great deal to me. More than you might think, really.” Er Yin laughs softly at that, reminding you that you called them in here for reasons. “Akari-niji-chan, was there more you didn't want to speak of in front of our new friends?”

“Mmm. Yes, aniki. I did not turn up very much about our friends though the usual channels, but I did learn things about Mizumi Shoko. She has a history among the oni-children of Tokyo from about two hundred years ago as a gang leader and a trouble maker. There were several incidents with youkai that occurred then that left traces in the tales and word of mouth that spirit children have, that associate her with some of them. She attracts youkai to her.” You're not sure whether to be alarmed or interested. “When she vanished, the youkai incidents did as well. I can't really say if that has anything to do with Horobi or not.”

“The answer to that is partly. After your namesake died, his power fled the world for some time. When the last of the youkai faded from the palace, she became despondent and wandered the islands for some time, causing a great deal of mayhem. I learned of her in my studied of Hokkaido and the Ainu.” Er Yin sighs softly. “I am afraid I have little explanation for her. Yuuhi-san is another matter.”

Akari and Kiki-hime relax and listen to Er Yin-sensei attentively as you put the robes aside to be put away later. “Yuuhi-san is known to me. She is the child of a very wild, very dangerous nogitsune, but she was raised by a ronin whom the nogitsune tricked into laying with her and then gave him the child. She was well brought up but she has many of those old ideas, combined with the capricious, flighty mind of a fox, and the evil powers of a nogitsune.”

Kiki-hime speaks up hesitantly. “I was under the impression that power is good or evil if it is used for good or evil.”

Kiki-hime looks confused and starts to speak but you shake your head. “Taking the person's shape means just that, Kiki-hime. Taking the person's shape away from them so you could wear it.” She looks a little more confused, so you explain a little further. “It usually involves eating them.” Kiki pales and nods, looking a little sick herself.

“That said, Ryukusa-sama, I would not hesitate to trust her to do the honorable thing,” Er yin finishes.

“Yes, except the honorable thing in this particular instance is sacrificing her life to pay the debt she believes she owes to Inari, and that's not really acceptable to me.” Kiki-hime's expression of confusion reminds you that not everyone is aware of Inari, or what it means. “She was present when Horobi's wives and Horobi were killed, but she wasn't able to help any of them. So she's feeling a lot of that samurai-level survivor's guilt, and as much as I love my country, I like living in it too much to die for something not my fault, which is an idea she can't really share, I think.” Er Yin-sensei looks down, more accepting the guilt of having revealed this fact than in any attempt to see the floor. “I trust her, but I don't trust her not to die on purpose.”

Akari frowns slightly, which is tantamount to her delivering a vicious diatribe to anyone else. Kiki-hime is looking abashed, which is probably why Akari is frowning at you. “It may also be nothing, but in the time I was possessed, I saw her using Ghost Flames. Kiku-chan was with me, so she might have seen what was really going on, but if it was real, that is some really dangerous power.” As fire to wood, so ghost flame to Shen – it burns the spiritual essence of things as it's fuel, making it one of the deadlier spiritual powers known. “If she dies and doesn't think she's done her duty, she could become a curse, or worse.”

You sigh softly. “And I take it you agree, Er Yin?” She smiles faintly, chagrined but still in agreement with the rest of your family. “Fine, fine. Then we'll hope her uncommon sense of survival gets in the way of her noble sacrifice for the sake of honor.” You turn to the closet and start deciding on what to wear for your meetings. “What else is there?”

You walk into the closet as Akari-niji-chan speaks softly with your wife, and Er Yin-sensei quietly adds something to the conversation. You purposefully ignore it, it seems to be something important that they want to bring up to you. Also, you have work to do!

This time you go for the classical business style that suits both righteous law enforcing detective women and the baddest of the bad-ass upper echelon Yakuza. Black silk slacks, pressed nice and crisp, a smooth jacket – tailored, because otherwise you get that funky looking open jacket busty girl look – and a crisp jewel blue dress shirt. Kiki-hime hands you a lovely black tie that is done in smooth silk and rough silk, two shades of black in swirling, abstract patterns. Tight black slip on flats, and of course the black stockings to match the black lace you were wearing before – which would have gotten more appreciative looks, if you hadn't been distracting your loved ones with unpleasant truths.

That settles the clothing, but you need the finishing touches. You add Yin and Yang silver and sapphire cuff links just because you're going to be dealing with the Church men today. You would have liked to keep your hair down, but you've been in so many recent sword-fights, you're afraid of getting it chopped off. You have been lucky so far....

“Here, let me, aniki.” You give Akari a weird look, as she's never ~asked~ for permission before, but when you look at Kiki-hime's serious expression, you realize Akari wants you to be paying attention specifically to her.

Er Yin-sensei lays an encouraging hand upon Kiki-hime's shoulder, and the beautiful young woman looks at you seriously, though you can tell she wants to bite her lip, tug her robes, or play with her belt. Anything to distract her from what she wishes to say.

Turning to face her Akari steps behind you and starts working on your hair, carefully taking it up in a manner your not familiar with. Ignoring her, you focus your attention on Kiki-hime, who flushes and looks down, though only for a few seconds. You school your expression, and wait patiently for her. She's been more than patient with you all morning, after you'd been hurt as well.

“Ryuu Ryukusa, I want you to take me to meet your father.” Her demand is soft, but firm. “I know it is dangerous, but I have the right to meet him.”

You blink slowly, looking into her determined blue eyes. You feel Akari finishing up with your hair, pinning and setting it carefully. You wait until she is done, and then take out a pair of very expensive, very sleek sunglasses and look at yourself in the mirror of them. Admittedly partly to see – HOLY FUCK, YOUR HAIR IS GONE!

No, no, wait, it's not gone. Damn, that scared you. Akari seems to have plaited and pinned it in such a way that it looks like you have short hair now, a straight cut along the back and squared to the sides, a classy, chic cut that makes you look even more like a cop or a Yak. And not at all like you do in the pictures. Damn, she nearly stopped your heart.

Kiki-hime is trying so very hard not to smile right now, because you totally lost control of your expression there, and the light, melodious laughter of you best friend trickles through the air. You shake your head, and sigh, tucking the mirrored sunglasses in your side pocket. She sobers up quickly when you speak softly to her. “My beloved wife....I am honored you wish to meet my father. If I could promise to introduce you when I meet him for the first time I would.” you take a deep breath and you can see the storm clouds in her eyes, the beginnings of a towering tantrum the likes of which she hasn't had since her first outburst in her room.

And while you don't fall for the typical feminine wiles....this is your wife, begging.

You look down, taking a moment to consider the situation. She's asking you to take her to Ryujin's palace, to meet him. It's bad enough that you're already considering a trip to Swamp Dragon Temple with her, but this is a larger, bigger heaven, and under the sole control of the Dragon God of all Oceans, father of the Imperial Line, and keeper of the tide Changing Jewels. Who could actually be three different dragons if the need arises. With Hinata-hakase's ointment you have enough for three to make a trip there and back. Shoko could carry one person there and back. Including Shoko, yourself, and the princess, that would only leave two others to protect her, and one of those cannot be Kiku-chan, one of your most dangerous and reliable warriors.

What a mess.

Despite that you look up and smile stepping forward to take your beloved wife into your arms, and you whisper softly, those dreadful, dangerous words. “I promise to do what I can to bring you with me, kasan. My power is yours to command, as long as you consider those whom love us.” Kiki-hime melts into your arms, blushing at your reminder that neither of you are single entities in this love; only then do you kiss her, softly and deeply. When you finally break the kiss, Er Yin speaks up. “Your sister is finished with her divination; we can return now.” You shiver – her last one was far too accurate for your taste. “Remember, Ryukusa-sama, you have already changed your destiny once.” With that cryptic reminder, she stands, and makes her way to the door. Kiki-hime moves to help her trough the hall, and you hear them discussing the dangerous to the child she and Akari carry when traveling through the spirit world.

Her own of red and white jade shimmers faintly. “If the choice comes between yourself, and Yuuhi....you cannot chose Yuuhi.”

As she kisses your ring softly, you think that getting stabbed with the dragon slaying sword Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi hurt less than the emotional knife Akari just slipped into your heart.

I have to be the one who is hard for you, because you don't like to be hard, especially with the hearts of others.” To your surprise, her hand comes up to rest on your cheek, and she looks into your eyes and her expression softens, commiserating in your pain. “I never worry about you with people like Kurao Clan, or Hojo Group, or Hidesato or Kushinada, aniki. I only fear for you when people like Yuuhi, or Shoko, or Jinyuu-onee-sama are in your way.”

You can't look into those soft, gentle eyes. They are the mirror of your own. “I know, Akari. I wish you were wrong. They didn't deserve to stumble into this.” Father Harris, the noodle vendor, even Emi who lives in Yomi....people who just happened to be in your path, who might pay the price for your movement through their lives. You don't think to much about them because it would slow you down. Right now, you can't afford that.

Akari kisses it, and you feel a shiver run down your spine, as she whispers softly, “When you take on the power that is meant to be yours, aniki, when you become Ame-no-Horobi-no-mikado, when you destroy parts of our homeland....I will be there, to bear witness, and to tell you the truth.”

You swallow past your Pearl, which feel large and swollen in your throat. “What truth?”

Her eyes gaze into yours, and she whispers even more softly, almost mouths the words. “That it was to save our family.”

Akari stiffens in your arms, but you recognize the voice instantly. “Rie-sama.”

Releasing your best friend and lover – and keeping her well behind you – you turn around to face the albino nekomata in her white school uniform, the dark marks above her gleaming blue eyes the mark of her power and age. “Hi. Thanks for the offerings. Oh, there's a bunch of soldier-type-human-persons downstairs. They're gonna teargas the building.” She blinks at you, totally indifferent to the things she's saying, and Akari immediately bolts into the living room to warn the others.

“I jus' thought you might like to know.”
