LAST TIME, ON POKEMON: SOUTHERN SHORES QUEST…..

Our trio set up camp West of Jay City, beginning their first night in the WILDS of the SOUTHERN SHORES TDR. Grey introduced his Growlithe, APOLLO, to the team, trained his two new Pokémon in their abilities, and almost set the forest ablaze! Yes, he was SURPRISED by said abilities. After extinguishing some flames, he then dived into the mind of his little purple Starter. Then, he engaged in CLANDESTINE operations before heading to bed. The next morning, our trio went hunting at the FRESH SPRING!

> We will get back to Grey in a moment! For now, time for our first brief ERICA Interlude...!

My name is Erica Warren, and I am currently fishing. For what? I’m not sure – I’m hoping for a Mudkip or something, or maybe a Wartortle, or maybe a Milotic! Oh, I love Milotics! They're so pretty and strong and rare and...!

I get so excited at that thought that I actually start hopping in place, fishing rod bobbing up and down in my hands while Mossimer watches on, passive as usual. I look down at him, offering a big smile. "We're going to catch a Milotic, Mossimer!" He doesn't respond. He just keeps shoveling handfuls of soil and grass into his little mouth, pincers flying about and little eyes glinting in the forest light. He’s not much of a talker but he's a nice Paras.

There’s a nice wind, with the sun shining on my back and soft sounds and birdsong filling the air. A very, very peaceful day, indeed. I lay back after propping the rod against some tree roots, letting the bobber float against the steady current. I breathe a long sigh – one of happiness, mind you. I’m content! No robbers, nothing trying to suck my blood out, I have some new friends to hang out with… “It’s a perfect day, isn’t it, Mossimer?” I don’t expect him to say anything, but usually he’ll respond with a particularly loud click or some rustling.

“Right, Mossimer?” I turn over, looking for my little Paras but he’s nowhere to be found. Odd.

“… Mossimer…?”

I see a little hint of mushroom, Spanish moss (he’s always covered in the stuff, hence his name), and red carapace rustling around in the bushes. I get up, brushing myself off and trying to peer past my little insect friend – what is he getting at? I walk over, pushing past him and prying apart some bushes. When I spot what Mossimer was getting so excited over my breath catches in my throat. There, laying on the ground, is a furry little animal wearing some kind of hat. A green hat. It’s like the little thing glued half a pine tree to its head. I pull out my pokedex, fumbling it open and pointing it at the little unconscious furball. Come to think of it, why is it unconscious…?

I sniff at the air a bit and that’s when I realize there is the characteristic scent of Mossimer’s spores in the air. He must have spooked Mossi and gotten stunned for his troubles… I quickly throw my sleeve over my mouth. No need to get knocked unconscious, again!

“Uh-uh… Uhm…” I turn about a bit a few times, sleeve over my mouth, trying to get this situation under control and not losemycool ohmygosh…! “Okay, okay. Calm down, Erica. First, gotta catch it.” I reach my hand around, searching for a pokeball on my belt… “Oh, come on!” I can’t believe I forgot to take the pokeballs out of my bag and hook’em on….

“Mossimer! Watch him!” I point to the sleeping pokemon, and Mossimer just scuttles over next to its still form. Mossi seems to like the taste of its little hat, which is really weird. Anyways, I run over to my bag, digging through snacks, supplies, container balls… There!

I grab a pokeball, stand back up, and then run back over to the bushes. I pry them apart again and, thankfully, the pokemon is still there. It must have gotten a good whiff of Mossimer’s spores to be out like this. I turn the reticle on, point, and then wait for about 7 seconds just to be sure. Then I lean down and with a, “Welcome to the team!” tap the little thing on the nose.

I pull my pokedex out, watching as the PokeNet and applications on my ‘Dex update, registering my new catch. Turns out it is…

My face lights up once the screen returns a “Registration complete – Chespin Registered.” I can’t help but dance around a bit, excited that I’ve got my own second ‘mon, now. And it’s another grass type! Which is, well, I guess I’m doing a theme right now… I look at Mossimer, who peers up at me, waving a little claw in my direction, and then at the pokeball in my hand.

“Hm. No offense, Mossi, but I can’t let my team be too one-sided. We need to di-ver-si-fy, know’msayin’?” He doesn’t really respond. He just goes back to digging his claws into the grass and soil, nipping at bits here and there with happy little clicks.

I put the pokeball onto my belt, thoughts swirling about my head of what my little Paras and new Chespin will do. But not without help, “And a water type is a great place to start!”

Turning back to where I propped my rod up I find… Oh, crap! The thing is jiggling like a jigglypuff with the hiccups! I dash over to it, taking the handle in one hand and reeling back with my other. Another pokemon, just like that…? This must be my lucky day!

And, of course, as I say that… A high-speed burst of water smacks me. Right in the face.
I’m knocked off my feet, rod still in hand. A “What?!” escapes me as I try, once more, to reel this little shit in. Another burst of water, this time rocketing over my head and into the trees above. A shower of water rains down upon me, soaking through my shirt and causing me to shiver.

The reel spins in my hand, line racing back and forth as I battle this little water demon, whatever it may be. “Oh no you don’t!” My thoughts harken back to a story I read when I was younger, of this crazy captain hunting a giant, white Wailord or something. “A-Ahab…? Was that his name?” the line jerks in my hands again, causing me to stumble forward. “Alright, well call me Ahab! Mossimer! Get my harpoon!”

The little Paras just looks at me, clicking and waving its claws around. “What do you mean, we don’t have a harpoon? Also, yes, I know you can’t understand me.” I grunt a bit, arms straining, before laughing to myself. Almost there… The bobber is coming up to the surface now…. Then, suddenly, the water erupts in violent splashes as the Pokemon is ripped from the water. A blue, slender shape, writhing in the air against the fishing line. I pull it towards the shore.

My initial idea for “Trainer Tour” didn’t involve getting robbed, and my idea for my first time “fishing” didn’t involve catching a violent lil’ thing that seems intent on soaking me entirely. Fortunately, I have managed to pull the Pokemon onto the bank of the river. Ever so often if thrashes around on the ground. Droplets of water shake off its shell, and a large, foreboding claw tries to get a grip on the line. I’m not letting that happen, though, and I yank the damned crustacean further onto shore. “Hey, Mossi!” I call out to my little Paras before ducking under another forceful blast of water. “Go get him!” My little Mossi waddles over towards the form, pincers up and nipping at the air. If I didn’t know him better I would say that he’s excited to fight!

The wild ‘Mon catches sight of him and aims its larger claw at Mossi, letting out a strong stream of water. Mossi, always the tough little fun”guy”, braces against the ground and leads his mushrooms into the blast while using his pincers to cover his face. The water doesn’t seem to do much damage, but the shooter moves in to engage Mossi with his claws.

In the meantime, I drop the rod- useless at this point – and pull another pokeball out of my pack. Sounds of a tussle ensue behind me, with angry clicks, chirps, and whistles coming from the battling pair. Mossi seems to be doing alright, but I wish there was something I could do to help him… Searching the ground, I find a particularly large stick.

Taking it in hand, I move towards the two Pokemon. I raise the stick, aiming for the tail of the blue shrimp, but when I go to hit the ‘Mon manages to catch the stick in its larger claw. Our eyes meet, and I audibly swallow. “U-hh… I’m Captain… Ahab…?”

The Shrimp just growls and blows the stick out of my hands with another jet of water. I let out a yelp, jumping back and stumbling a bit before recovering my balance. "Get'im Mossi! It's all up to you, now!"

Mossi, taking advantage of the distraction, manages to grab a hold of the Shrimp’s smaller claw with his own, tilting the wild ‘mon onto its side. The two of them strain, each of their pincers and claws biting and gnashing at the other. Mossi definitely has the upper hand, but I worry about his stamina in a straight-up fight.

Mossimer hits the Pokemon in his underbelly with his claw, then tosses him over his side with the other. “Alright, Mossimer! You’re doing great!” I draw the training “clicker” from my left pocket, giving the sign I taught him, two short clicks, for stun spore. “Stun Spore, Mossi! Stun Spore!”

>72

While the shrimp is rocking back and forth on its back and trying to hit Mossimer with a jet of water the young Paras scuttles over and tries to arrest the shrimp’s movements with his right legs. The ‘Mon tries to push him away or let off a jet, but Mossi bats his claws away with his own before kneeling over and shaking the various fungi and mosses on his back.

A shower of spores rolls off, coating the Pokemon in the glistening paralytic substances. The shrimp’s movements become more and more erratic, and Mossimer continues to try and smack him about a bit before I call him off.
Then, aiming, I go for a lock with a Pokeball.

“…3, 2, 1…. Go!”

I toss the ball which thumps the Crustacean with a solid “thump!” before opening in a flash of light. The pokeball bounces against the ground a second later, sealing the pokemon inside.
I rush over, falling to my knees and scooping it up. A few moments later and it’s official –

You are now Grey, and you are standing in the midst of a veritable Pokeparty.

You and Dani had both decided to let all of your Pokemon out, one by one, getting to know them and introducing them to each other. Mittens had helped a lot with introductions and facilitating communication so the process had gone relatively smoothly.

The first out was Dani’s new Lotad, which she has decided to name Paddy. You chuckled at that. Shortly after being released and becoming comfortable the little amphibian-plant crossover was gurgling happily as Dani was scratching its belly and holding it in her arms.

You then released your Squirtle. True to your expectations, the blue turtle was quiet, yet welcoming enough. You found that he enjoyed eating pieces of fruit out of your hands and was comfortable enough with having his shell rubbed. His shell, you noted, was a beautiful piece of browns and oranges with red flecks dotting its surface. In honor of his shell you decided to name him “Sheldon. Or Shelly, for short.”

You left Shelly to his own devices, chewing on some oranges, as you moved to release the last of your Pokemon: a Buizel, and she was a feisty one the first time you released her. You do so again, preparing to block a squirt of water aimed at your face.

There is a flash of light. As it fades a tall and slender orange figure is revealed. The Buizel looks about, crouching down onto its haunches and staring at Dani and her Lotad warily. You watch as Dani crouches down a bit and offers a wave to the little sea-weasel with a smile. She is rewarded by a sharp blast of water to the face. You notice a strong heat coming to your cheeks, then. It probably has to do with the way wet clothes tend to stick to women. You thank the gods for their gift this day as you tear your eyes away. Dani lets of a sputtering, dripping “Hey!” as you walk over, staring at the ground, and then reach over and whack the Buizel on the head from behind.

The Buizel snaps its attention to you. It gives a little “yip,” sizing you up with narrowed eyes before readying another blast of water.

>95

However, you expect it this time. Throwing a hand up to block the incoming water you shout "No! Bad Buizel!". It doesn't stop the spray that hits your arm, nor does it stop the Buizel from trying again.

You then watch as the Buizel aims lower, and you block another blast that would have soaked the crotch of your pants. How classy. “Buizel, stop! Stop it right now!” You try to keep your voice firm and level while maintaining eye contact. However, the Buizel simply yips and turns to dash for the water. Before it can take two steps, however, your arm has shot up and a containment field has been erected around the Buizel, stopping it in its tracks. A nice little feature of higher-quality Pokeballs like a netball: a secondary feature can be activated which limits a trouble Pokemon’s range of movement.
However, this doesn’t stop water gun attacks….

The Buizel rears back with a… “Playful,” but you think it more impish, gurgle before letting off a jet of water. You throw your arm in front of your face but nothing hits you. You look up to see Mittens standing in front of you, front paws outstretched and a purple glow surrounding her little form. She’s growling and slightly shaking as her arms lower, the water following the movement. Then with a splash it hits the ground once she releases the hold.

The Buizel looks at her, chirping and barking in a challenging manner before readying another blast-

Mittens isn’t going to have it.

Your little Espurr marches over to the Buizel, who climbs onto its back haunches with a slight growl towards Mittens. You’re about to intervene between the two when a loud smack emanates from the Buizel’s face.

You look on as the Buizel looks at the Espurr, shocked. There are a few minutes of tense silence. You wait for a lunge, for biting, for a scuffle- instead, the Buizel lowers its paws before inching its whole body towards the ground slowly. Mittens stands there, right paw once again primed and outstretched, as the Buizel looks up at her with its ears flat and a whimper in its voice.

25 + a d20 of extra girth for boobage?
10 puts her at 35.

36-24-36 which was generally considered perfect. Rolling for curiosities sake.

There is an embarrassing moment when Dani asks you why you are avoiding looking at her – but, then, she quickly realizes, There's something about light shirts, dark bras, and water. You swear you feel your head go dizzy. You're turned away, but you hear Dani swear under her breath while most likely covering up before apologizing.

“N-No problem…!” You offer with a cough. “Maybe, uh, maybe we should all go swimming? Why don't... ah... why don't you go get Erica?” Dani agrees to that with a stutter and quickly heads off to collect Erica.

It takes a few minutes of work but you managed to get your teams settled in by yourself. You have a little chat with Mittens and commend her for standing up for you; however, you also warn her that sometimes we have to be patient with one another. Even if one of us (read: Buizel) is a bit of an asshole.

Mittens acquiesces and tells you that “She playful. But. No Respect Grey.” You nod a bit – perhaps it’s the way you caught her? “Mittens mad. Grey is good trainer. Respect good trainers!” You ruffle the fur on her head and give her a one-armed hug.

“Thank you, Mittens. I appreciate how much you care for me and the team.” You stand up, leaning over and helping Mittens onto two feet as well. Her paw is wrapped up in your fingers, and she hustles towards the water, her little tail wagging. “I know you will do your best to make sure everything goes well. I’m lucky you’re such a super Pokemon!” Mittens gives a mental purr at that, then turns her attention to the cool surface of the spring-water.

The scene is one of fun and tranquility (at least for now). Apollo has avoided going more than ankle-deep in the water, but is enjoying catching cattails on fire while Nereid (you decided a playful, water-related name best) tries to keep up by extinguishing them. You muse that, actually, that’s a great way to practice their respective abilities. It might be dangerous. Maybe. You’ll keep the extinguishing gel close by.

Paddie and Shelly have both taken to deeper water, with Paddie making lazy circles on the water’s surface and Shelly dipping and diving amongst the grasses and reeds. Vlad is lazily perched on a nearby tree, preening himself and snacking on leftover bits of fruit when not surveying the lot of you with an apathetic eye.
You change –you neglected to bring your suit, but you have a pair of mesh shorts which you wouldn’t mind getting wet. You toe at the water a bit, which is freezing, before Nereid decides to “help” by splashing you playfully. “Shit, Shitshitshit’s cold…!” You slip in and then start to paddle about in an attempt to warm yourself up. It only… slightly works. Hypothermia may be eminent.

You’re playing a game of “tag the Lotad” when a voice calls out to you.

“Hey Grey! We’re back!”

Your mentor and battling instructor, The “Ole Dirty Bastard”, used to tell you stories of wondrous things that could take a man’s breath away and drive him to do things stupid, courageous, and insane. Sometimes all three at once.

Yes, he spoke of things that jiggled and shined in the light; things that stretched clothing and sparked the imagination. He instructed you to not be led astray, and you engaged in arduous training for a day when you might be tempted. This is that day.

At the voice you turned around, and there were Erica and Dani, laughing and strolling along together towards the shore and the spring. The spring that you were now in, desperately fighting off “Mr. Happy” and his “Show.” Why? Because Dani was wearing a two-piece swimsuit of the sporting variety and she filled it out nicely.

You turn away, mind racing. You put your training to use, regulating your breathing and calling up images of Mr. Mimes. It isn't quite enough, though, and you exclaim under your breath, “SHIT!”

You turn your head left and right, searching for some cover. Reeds? No, itchy and suspicious. Lotad? No, too small and wriggly. You were in the unfortunate circumstances of being in crystal clear water while wearing mesh shorts that left little to the imagination, with two girls (one of which you were personally detecting some sort of mutual crush with, still not sure) heading in your direction.

You need time. You need help.

“MITTENS!” Your little Espurr snaps to attention at your urgent call and jerks onto her hind legs. She turns to you, claws extended and eyes wide open.

“GREY!? TrainerGrey!?! What wrong?! Where danger!?!” The poor little thing is searching the area, instincts blaring. You motion to her that it’s okay, then point towards the girls.

“Mittens, I, uh, I need you to distract them. Please!” The cat looks at you curiously. Then, she closes her eyes and tilts her head strangely…. You feel a slight probing sensation before a tinkling, bright laughter fills your mind.

“Hahahah! TrainerGrey like Dani butt!" The little Espurr gets a comical look on its face as she holds onto her mouth, stifling would-be laughter. "Dani like TrainerGrey butt! Hahahah!” The little cat has doubled over, mewling and audibly letting out a sort of coughing-hissing laugh. You now know how cats laugh. Awesome.

“Mittens! Please!” She stops laughing and then works to catch her breathing. She stands, giving you a mental affirmation before saluting you and then trotting towards the girls.

I am Mittens, and I am a Super Partner!

I know TrainerGrey just say that. Make me happy. I like that TrainerGrey want make me happy. He very nice.

I have to help TrainerGrey by ‘stract Dani and Erica because TrainerGrey is embarrass. He… Sorry, I laugh again…. He like Dani butt! Hehe!

“Okay,” I think to myself sometime. It help. “DaniFriend like scratch my belly!” As I walk up to DaniFriend she smile and lean down to me. I like Danifriend she very nice. I like Erica too but she is quiet and needs me take care of her. She always get in trouble. I walk over and Dani ask what is up but nothing is up except trees and sky so I just look at her. Then I get on ground and roll over and Dani smile bigger and she scratch my belly! Mm! I like bellyscratches from DaniFriend.

>2

Dani does this but then she try to pick me up! I wiggle and wiggle my paws! “No! No!” Dani look concern and I feel bad so I stop and let her pick me up. “Oh no! Must stop Danifriend from see Grey!” I don’t know what do… How to stop Dani… Hm.

You are Grey, and you are currently riding on the back of your Squirtle. It’s a little awkward, yes, but what could be a better shield than a giant turtle shell? Nothing. That’s right, nothing. Brilliant plan. Dani and Erica will never see-
What was that scream for… Did Mittens just run by with a bikini top in her paws…?

You make a note to thank Mittens later before punishing her with no dinner. Stealing a top is… Ohgod sojiggily sojiggily. You can’t help it, and begin perspiring in the spring-cold water after pushing away your Squirtle. Nothing can help, now. Nothing can hide your shame. All of your master’s training on being a gentleman has come to waste as you watch Dani jog across your field of vision, her hand barely containing the jiggles. This image will be burned into your brain. FOREVER.

“MITTENS I SWEAR TO GOD!”

I am sorry DaniFriend but Mittens have help Grey and if Dani embarrass then Grey no embarrass…

Why is Grey laying in the water….?

>>>>>

You are Grey, and come back to the world with a sputtering, coughing start. Dani is leaning over you – top back on, thankfully, - and is looking at you concernedly as you hack more water out of your lungs.

“What….” Your voice is a croaking mess. “Happened…?”

Dani answers you, but does so looking away and blushing. “We’re not sure… you must have… uh… passed out? Maybe from exhaustion or the cold…?” She stands up, arms wrapped around herself and turned away. You pull your eyes away from her butt. It’s a hard life you lead. “I had to, uh, do CPR. I’m glad you’re alright.”

You thank her and stand up. Erica is overseeing the Pokemon while Mittens is standing next to you, small paws wrapped around your leg. She seems worried and sad.

“I so sorry, Grey! This all Mittens fault! Mittens is bad!”

You pat her head, telling her it’s okay and asking if she apologized to Dani. She does, and Dani waves it off with a small smile. “It’s okay… You're alright, and Mittens doesn't know better. She explained what happened." You pale at that, and Dani laughs as you bury your head in your heads. "And, I mean, I got my first kiss.”
