Captain's Log. Stardate: Hair Past A Freckle.
As I continue to make these entries, I continue to be shocked by our luck and good fortune, looking back on all that has transpired. The Droids and myself started our journey as we rushed away at a breakneck pace from the last Federation base, carrying our vital cargo; Intel on the Rebel Flagship, the centerpiece of their military strategy, The Rebels know, and have been chasing us across the universe from the start. We've crossed galaxies, blasting our way through Rebels and Pirates, and saving civilians from tyranny and danger. We're so close to the Federation homeworlds, but we're no safer than we were from the start. We'll need to be vigilant, daring, and master tacticians to make it home.

We set out in an old, rusted bucket that was, in essence, an ambulance with some tricked out rims. It was crewed by two droids before I commandeered the thing and set out. In that time, we've recruited more crewmen; Dr. Mr. Derek the Slugman-turned-Doctor-turned-Prostitute-turned-Gunnery Officer, Nikolai, the Engi Engineer who does engineering, and McHippy, the peaceful Zoltan emissary who remains blissfully unaware that our weapons don't even HAVE stun settings. The ship itself is, if not a world-class flight, an outstanding fighter. We have an amazing suite of weaponry, a suitable shield, and the Droids can slap together weaponized drones in a moment's notice. We can also use Dr. Mr. Derek's skill in subduing unruly patients through invasive mind control to temporarily shift an enemy's alliance, or subvert their own attempts at control.

We took a brief rest stop in the middle of a Slug-Controlled Nebula, and we have many options ahead of us. But the most important question is; where do we go first?
>>
>>36361085
Without knowing much about your immediate past the best I can suggest is staying in the nebula and hitting up as many events as you can on your way to the exit. The unexplored node South and West on your map is ripe for the exploring. Best of luck Cap'n.

And oh wow FTL, I really need to play more than two games of the expansion

With no preference for destination besides Derek liking the feel of Nebular space, we flip a Spacebuck to choose where to go. Heads! We head to the SpaceSouthwestern nebula.

We arrive, and spot a Rebel ship away from their main fleet; possibly a foreward scout looking for us. Should we engage, or just avoid them?

It really isn't a challenge to utterly destroy these guys; they must've been sent on some kind of suicide mission. Or the Rebels don't know what we're outfitted with; that's good.
They're offering to give up, but I note that their FTL engine is charging up, most likely to report to the Rebel Fleet exactly what we're kitted with. Should we let them go, and see if they flee, or wipe them out?

"No, McHippy!" Hinderson cries over the intercom. "According to the UI you have no health whatsoever! Get out of there!"
UI, or UniShip Intelligence, monitors everything going on with the crew of whatever ship it's mounted on. Obviously. For example, it can tell that Nikolai has been satisfied at work recently, is ecstatic over crafting an artifact recently, and is grumbling over drinking the same old booze recently.
Wait, no, that doesn't sound right, does it? I mean, Engi don't even drink. I don't think.

We vent the entire ship to put out the fires, relying on the nanites in the medbay to keep us alive, artificially supplying oxygen to our brains. McHippy is caught by the Rockman intruder with a swift punch to the face as he ran to the medbay; he perished in a burst of energetic flame that killed his murderer. As we cower in the medical bay, slowly asphyxiating, the weapons system fire one last volley, Hinderson keeping a steady aim even as we burn alive.
The Heavy Cannon hits their weapons; they have three hull points remaining.
The Flax fires on their teleportation system. None hit the teleporter.
All three fragments hit dead on their O2 system. They fly apart. A final bomb is fired towards us, we brace for a blast... which never comes. They missed.

We repair what we can, fixing the main systems. We are near death. The ship is limping along, down a crew member, no structural stability in the thing. Nikolai informs us that one more solid hit will kill us all.

Derek audibly considers suicide, calling it the better alternative to whatever slow death we're sure to have as we're sucked into the void through a hole in our hull. The Droids are unresponsive, chattering to eachother in their strange machine language.
Hinderso doesn't care. He is a murderer, a necrophiliac, a brutal killer of any not aligned with his interests.
But he is a Federation Captain.
He has a mission.
That mission is to deliver this manilla folder to Federation HQ, come hell or high water.
He, and this ship, have survived pulsar stars, crazed cultists, the full force of the Rebel fleet. A ship piloted by idiots with fake mustaches will not kill him, or stop this mission.

We nearly died in this sector. We didn't improve our ship in anyway and it's only going to get harder.

It's still doable of course but I think we might need to teach you things like volleying otherwise it will be very hard.

Yeah, there's probably dozens of things I could be doing better. This whole /tg/ plays thing is only my sixth run through the game.

From what I can see you're not at the point where your chances of victory are nil, but without a spot of luck it's going to be hard. That's the nature of the game; the RNG giveth and the RNG taketh.

You're doing better than I did near when I first started playing, if it's any help. So many crewmen dead to the spider menace. Best of luck going forward.

On the plus side, we've got mind control and anti-drone defenses. Those will come in pretty handy in the later stages. It'd also be nice to pick up a cloaking device if we can.

Should've treaded carefully. Giant alien spiders are no joke.

The galaxy will never forget Lambert's brave sacrifice. If the Nostromo hadn't blown up in an asteroid field two jumps later that is.

I usually run teleporter+cloaking+bomb with pumped evade. Hasn't worked too well since the expansion came out though so you might be better off with something else.
