Today is September 16th, UC 0084. You are Dominic O'Hara: a Commander in the Titans anti-terror organization, squadron leader of the “Grim Guard”, and Executive Officer of the Valkyrie, both of which now operate out of the converted Helium carrier Nagato.

And you've never quite gotten used to that side of Haman's personality. It comes out so infrequently now that when it does it never fails to catch you off your guard. Her “reunion” a few moments ago with the hapless Mashymre Cello just happened to be one of those times.

“Cold,” Rosse observes after you've rounded the corner, muffled cries of Haman's name still audible as Audrey and Carya get the poor bastard moving towards his cell again.

“Yeah, was that really wise?” you ask, concerned about your new 'guest'. “Do we even know how stable he is? I mean, mentally speaking?”

Haman releases her grip on your hand to turn around and float a few feet ahead of you, her pleated skirt ruffling in the freefall. “So far as I'm concerned he's a lost cause. The more any of us interact with him, the worse things will turn out.”

>Come on, it can't be that bad.
>There's got to be a reason behind this. Storytime, please?

"Talk to him, Haman. Even if he's a prick, he's a prick we can use to get information on Axis and Panini."

Oh boy oh boy time for shitstorm.

"I sense there's a story there," you observe. "It's pretty obvious you two have a history."

"Tell us a story?" Rossweisse asks hopefully.

Haman sighs in resignation. "There's not much to tell. I met him in what passed for an arcade on Axis, where he was positively strutting over his winning streak on one of the simulators."

"Wait, like an ms simulator?" you ask incredulously.

Haman nods. "Yeah, we didn't have any fun games, so kids on Axis basically grew up training to be pilots... kinda fitting, don't you think? Anyway, I challenged Cello to the sims. He told me that beating a girl would make him look like a bully. I said something nasty and goaded him into playing a set."

"You beat him?" Rosse asks.

"I wiped the floor with his face, several times," Haman corrects. "Since I'd snuck out one of my father's men found me, and used my name. So Mashymre found it out. From that day until the day you kidnapped me, I got about three or four letters from him a week."

"That sounds annoying," you allow, "but harmless."

"He also asked me out to the school dance three times. Turned him down every time, and kept asking my father to put out a restraining order," Haman continued. "Then one day he smashed some poor guy's teeth in for trying the same thing, and my father relented. On Axis, Mashymre Cello was legally required to stay at least one hundred meters from me at all times."

"Okay," you agree. "That sounds like it could be problematic."

"So you think he'd attack Dominic?" Rossweisse asks with a frown.

"I don't doubt it," Haman replies. "Anything you say or do to him will just go through some sort of weird filter, and come out twisted in all the right ways to validate his warped little worldview."

"Wait, you had school dances on Axis?" you ask incredulously as the statement finally manages to sink in.

Haman merely shrugs. "Much of the Zabi family's image came from the aristocratic airs they put on for others to see," she points out. "So of course we had balls."

"Like a proper lady," Rosse snickers.

"An uncomfortable lady in a big, poofy dress, yeah."

"So would it be best to keep him here?" you ask. "Pump him for information and just 'lose' the key to let him out again?"

Haman nods as you come to a stop by the door to your quarters. "If you let him go, he'll just come back, If you hand him off to Titans, they'll give him cyber-Newtype surgery and send him after us. Try and recruit him, and he'll turn on you: and while I'd put my money on any of us over him, he HAS got some skill as a pilot. All it'd take is one lucky shot to do far more damage than I'm comfortable allowing."

"Alright," you agree. "Into the cell he goes."

Haman gives you a grateful smile and a peck on the cheek. "Thanks, you're doing the right thing."

"Understood," Rosse replies. The two of them head into your shared quarters, leaving you to head down to the ready room alone.

The room is notably empty, since the Valkyrie is running with a skeleton crew at the moment. Sitting at one of the terminals, you bring up a connection to the bridge.

"Hey, Reiko. Patch me through to Woomera," you request.

"Sure thing. It's on the far side of the planet, so it may take a few minutes."

"That's fine."

You're not sure how many minutes pass... three or four, five at absolute most. Finally, South Burning's face appears on the viewscreen.

Would the Nero mobile suit work?
>>
>>36333827
I don't wanna produce mobile armors when we can simply build more Schnee Weiss psychommus, install them into the Nagato's hull, and then add Funnel binders to our grunt suits. It'd keep our incredibly valuable Newtypes from being vaporized while also adding additional bunch for our Oldtypes out in the field.
>>
>>36334021
>Nero

Yes, yes it would. It won't be showing up for another three or four years though. Any mobile suit that can fulfill multiple roles is what we need. Be it the Kampfer with it's flexible loadout or the Mk II's the Titans cribbed from our Lilium designs.
>>
>>36334022
What is this? Sensible weapons design and logistics? In Gundam?
Impossible.

Your idea is completely unfeasible. Clearly, the way to go is make a gigantic, highly specialized Mobile Suit with experimental psycommu technology and have it be piloted by mentally unstable teenagers.
>>
>>36334022
Nah, I'm not saying we should produce another MA, I'm saying we should upgrade our existing one.

And adding a psycommu to the Valkyrie isn't a bad idea. We already had that psycommu mine system developed, maybe we can improve on it?
Instead of dropping mines, the Valkyrie deploys giant funnel-cannons that are piloted by a team of newtypes from the ship.

"Well," you begin hesitantly, "there was an attack on Libot, yes. Actually, Monsha's team was there..."

"Oh Lord he's dead, isn't he?" South asks, completely devoid of any surprise or sense of urgency.

You nod. "Yeah, I may have killed him without realizing who it was. Sorry, South."

South sighs heavily and settles into his seat. "I knew Titans would bring him to a bad end. As much as we had to disagree over... he was still my wingmate. I assume that Chap and Chuck were there as well?"

You nod. "They both survived. When we explained the situation to them, they turned pretty quickly."

"I see... and what was the situation, exactly?"

"Titans authorized the use of nerve agents against Libot to quell the uprising."

South's eyes narrow dangerously, in a way you haven't seen your old friend look in a long time. "I assume you have proof of this?"

You nod again. "I can send you a copy of the flight records and videos."

"How many?" he asks grimly.

"A lot. Literally thousands."

South Burning, a man you've known since the war, then does something you've never seen him do before.

You see a tear in the corner of his eye. Not one born of sadness, but of a deep, primal rage: like a wounded beast.

"I assume you have an answer prepared?" he asks, his voice cold and firm.

>>
>>36334077
Or the Woundwort's highly customizeable loadout and capabilities.
It's whole thing is having equipment meant to emulate the characteristics of other high performance MS. Only it is better.
I think a good idea is to make it a limited production unit and give it Equip. Packs meant to specialize it to a role, instead of imitating other units.
That way, a team with a Woundwort can have a unit meant for sniping in one mission and then have the same unit act as artillery in another.

So, we're in agreement that the perfect mass produced mobile suit for us needs to be:

>versatile (modular backpack or a customizable Lego set like the Woundwort)

>a beefy enough generator for plasma weaponry

>detachable propellant tanks

>easily modifiable cockpit block

>multitudes of weapon hard points that can be ejected like the Stark Jegan and Kampfer

>repairable in the field short of catastrophic cockpit breach or damage to the coreblock

Basically, we want a Soviet T-34.
>>
>>36334387
Riah and the Republic, probably. If not, we should get Cima on the horn.
>>
>>36334312
Also a good option.
Really, the only reason I'm suggesting the Woundwort is because it is a sexy, sexy machine.
Also, I'm somewhat hesitant to accept the idea of Multirole MS, mostly because trying to be good at everything means your performance becomes average at best, due to the need to compromise between the optimal designs for each role.
Meanwhile, a machine with modularity can specialize to be able to excel at any role, with the only cost being the need for Prep-time.
>>
>>36334462
Not really, no. Still not sold on the whole modularity idea, at all.
>>
>>36334208
>We're going to rally those Titans who are as angry as we are, and stop those who condone this sort of thing.
The fact that there were enough people of the Titans group on the La Vie en Rose who joined up with us and the two ships outside shows that there's enough of a split that we can destroy it from the inside.
>>
>>36334462
I'd rather we get working on MS bits (or turret bits that are deployed from the ship, similar to the mines) and the ability to hijack enemy psycommu systems.
>>
>>36334519
The sole reason the Leo was the mainstay suit for so long in Wing was due to the modular backpack. It's what made the Strike so versatile in Seed. A multi-role suit beats out a specialized suit anyday.
>>
>>36334573
No, the sole reason that the Leo was the mainstay MS was a total lack of competition.
>>
>>36334611
The Leo was also easily overhaulable. Why waste shekels on a new suit when you can retrofit the old, modifiable design built to last against anything short of a Main Character.
>>
>>36334676
Or Ares, or Tarus, or Vigros. All of which consistently massacred the Leo MS. Oddly, the Vigro II was much less effective, not sure why.
>>
>>36334208
"What we're going to do," you reply, "is gather up all the Titans who don't approve of this sort of shit. Then we're going to drag the officers who ordered the attack kicking and screaming out of whatever hole we find them in, over the corpses of whoever insists on supporting their mass-murdering ways."

South is silent for a moment. "I want in."

"You're in," you reply. "Any indication that Titans has been fucking around at Woomera?"

"You mean more so than usual?" South jokes. "No. I'd assume we have a reason to expect them to?"

"They took over La Vie en Rose," you inform him. "We dealt with the problem and we're getting two Titans ships repaired, but there's every possibility Hymem Om is getting in our way."

"I'll keep my eyes open," South replies. "I assume you want to talk to Nina about this?"

You nod, and South walks off to go find the former Anaheim tech. When he returns with her a few minutes later, you catch her up to speed with all that has happened in the last few days.

"I see," she sighs. "Well, I'm glad it's worked out so far. When you finally get here, I have something you may be interested in."

"Oh?" you ask. "A present?"

"The best kind," she winks. "You'll get a lot of mileage out of it, I think. So when will you be here?"

>Probably tomorrow. We'll bring the Nagato.
>Tomorrow. We'll be in the Valkyrie.

I'm guessing that we pose just too much trouble to eliminate.

Popular public support.

Giant space ship that rivals a colony laser in destruction.

Thousands of loyal spacers and pilots.

Several highly placed contacts that would make their jobs hell.

Plus several women that would go to the ends of the Earth to see them dead if they went after Dom.

It's just best to leave Dom alone until they can at least eliminate one or two of those elements from his control.
>>
>>36335055

Well in space, yeah, but even then, Dom's group is composed of like....8 or so active pilots, a weird Pegasus, and a big freighter. Push come to shove, they'd be kinda fucked I think. Especially if the Titans get the license to order the regular Federation around.
>>
>>36335032
they need a reason, and while they might have the firepower to take our splinter group, they can't take us and the Riah guard, the Republic Self defense force, and the EFSF forces that would likely back us.

"I plan to be there tomorrow with the Valkyrie. Be ready for a possible fight."

Nina nods. "I'll inform Kou as well, and get my research materials in order."

After the communication with Woomera is done, you quickly shoot Karen a message that you plan to move in for South and Nina tomorrow. She acknowledges quickly, offering to stay behind with Second Team and the Nagato to keep an eye on La Vie en Rose as well as the two Titans ships docked there. You also insist on bringing Third Team with you: this will be Marida, Cynthia, and Diana's first time on Earth, and you wouldn't deny them that experience.

September 17th, UC 0084. 10:00 hours.

You stir briefly, finding a familiar set of surroundings: Haman to the left, Audrey to the right, Rosse's head on your chest, and the Sisters on their side by your head.

It doesn't take long to prepare to cast off from La Vie en Rose. Haman drags her feet a little, looking bleary-eyed as a toothbrush hangs from her mouth. Rosse's short, black hair is still frizzy from having slept with it wet. Audrey is just impossible to get going, and Carya 'naps' inside her own head while Catrina carefully cleans their nails.

The triplets come aboard, and Karen disembarks for the Nagato, wishing you good luck.

"Are the Tusche Schwarz units secured?" you prompt Reiko.

"Yes, sir," she replies lazily, barely awake herself. "Got in this morning."

The Purus seem more than a little out of it: you're pretty sure Marida's fallen asleep where she's standing as you cast off moorings and Defrah accelerates the Valkyrie towards Earth.

>>
>>36335697
"This ship has a bath, too," you remind them.

The triplets are practically out the door before you finish the sentence: seems they're partial to bathing.

"Well then," you turn to your remaining teammates. "Someone want to bring some coffee along?"

Audrey nods. "Sure. I think there's some of that iced stuff in the cans down in the galley. Will that do?"

You give Audrey a peck on the forehead. "You're a life-saver. See you down there in a few minutes."

Several decks below, you and your fellow Newtypes have gathered in the steam. Audrey arrives not long after you do with the promised coffee, passing them around. The caffeine hits your system much faster than usual, and you can see it perks your teammates up as well. You figure it has something to do with the hot water relaxing your body, which in turn increases blood flow and allows stimulants to spread through your body more easily.

Really, you're just thankful for it, whatever it is.

"So," you ask, drifting past Marida. "What did they tell you about Earth back on Mars?"

"Not very much," she admits with a frown. "A lot of it was really preachy, about how it's been the source of all conflicts, that sort of thing."

"I don't believe that for a second," Diana asserts rather loudly. "I mean, how could the planet be the problem? It's people fighting over the things that are on the planet that cause wars."

"That's very astute," Audrey compliments. "Earth is still important to the human race, which means people are going to argue about it."

"Like we need a reason to argue," Cynthia mutters. "The more they told us about human history, the more that became apparent."

"It's not all bad," Rossweisse offers.

Haman nods firmly. "That's right: without Earth there wouldn't be enough food for everyone. And our species started off there: like it or not, the Earth is our home. Even if one day we end up living among the stars, it'll still be our spiritual home."

"Mostly military," Mineva replies before dunking her head under the surface of the mineral-laden water.

Diana puts on a bit of a pout. "I wish they'd taught us stuff like art history or literature, but Glemy told us we didn't need to know any of that."

Interesting... "Glemy", huh? Cynthia shoots you a knowing look as Marida's head pops back up above the surface.

"So who taught you three?" Carya finally chimes in. "Officers? Family? Politicians?"

"A little of all three," Marida replies cannily, avoiding the same mistake Diana made just seconds before. And given the look on Diana's face, she JUST realized what she said.

It's adorable how much redder her face just got.

"Did Bernini pitch in?" Haman asks as she pops her neck softly. "He doesn't seem the child-rearing type."

"Nah, he was just a big jerk most of the time," Marida replies, sticking her tongue out at the thought.

Cynthia grins. "He never really understood children OR Newtypes, it seemed."

"Did anyone ever train you how to make use of your skills?" Audrey asks, suddenly curious. "Were there Newtypes on hand to train you?"

Start off by asking them about their training. Was is group training, or were they individually trained.

Cynthia looks over at her, with a sudden trace of worry in her eyes. "I can't either. There's a lot of times I can't remember anything. We just woke up and played together for a while."

"They made us go to classes and take tests," Diana recalls, "but I can't remember being taught how to pilot a mobile suit."

That's the point. They're having a mental breakdown because they're finally realizing it.
>>
>>36337045

Sounds like some kind of Cryogenic based Accelerated Growth Process... Interesting to know that Glemy is in the same barrel as the Puru's.... The knowledge is obviously implanted... Still think Bernini has some kind of 'Kill Switch' implanted into them...

Brb, making food.

It was always implied that Glemy might be a clone, himself. Specifically, a clone of Gihren. Because that was something the world needed, apparently.

Not sure the scene that Anon is talking about, but any orders from Marida's Master pretty much overrides anything she may feel or want to do.

If it helps, think of it like Command Seals on Servants from Fate Stay Night. It takes a LOT of willpower to even resist it.

He might also be Girhren's illegitimate child, presumably by way of Cecilia Irene (who's basically Eva Braun, but she survives postwar).

I don't remember the episode of Unicorn it was, but she's captured by the Vist Foundation and shown her original Quebeley. Which magically makes her Vist's plaything to do as they please.

Momentarily unsure of what to do, you motion for your teammates to wait, and see how the three young women handle the sudden revelation of exactly what they are.

Looking back, you regret that moment of indecision.

Marida paces back and forth, muttering to herself she she tries to reason her way through the dilemma. "But I'm Number Twelve. I'm me, right? None of the others are me, only I'm me. How could someone else be me? They can't, that's silly!"

"If I'm Number Nine," Cynthia hisses to herself in agitation, "does that mean Elpeo is the real one? Am I just a fake? No, that can't be! How could I be a fake?"

Diana merely whimpers to herself wordlessly.

After several seconds of shock, you finally put yourself back together: you move quickly to corral the three young clones (and now you know for a fact, that's exactly what they are), and pull them into the tightest hug you can offer without the risk of breaking anything...

You'd all just be the same, and anyone who speaks to you for even a minute can tell that's not the case. You are beautiful, wonderful, UNIQUE girls and nothing can change that. Don't think for a minute that you don't have value. Because we love you, and would hate for you to feel so sad for something that isn't even true."

Each of you is unique, each of you with your own personality, your own spirit, your own quirks. (come up with examples, such as Marida's calm and in charge attitude, etc)

You hear a muffled sob or two, and feel a nod.

"Right. And who gave you those names?"

"... we chose them," Cynthia offers quietly, finally returning your embrace.

"The three of you are unique, even if you ARE clones. You're not numbers. You're not copies. You're people. You're our friends."

Diana's arm goes around your hip in an awkwardly-positioned but sincere hug.

"You're more than just members of our crew: we care about you, and we want you to be happy. You're important to us, and I won't let anyone tell you that you're somehow less important because of how you were born: not even yourselves."

Finally, after a few more sniffles, Marida throws her arms wide around both you and her sisters.

You're not sure how long it takes to get the three of them back in order. Diana seems the most vulnerable to you, so you pull her aside and hold her gently as she cries into your chest. Your hands find her back and head, silently reminding her of your presence in the milky water and steam. Similarly, your teammates do their best to reassure Cynthia and Marida that no matter how they might feel, or what exactly they are, they're not alone.

After you finally leave the bath, silently promising to spend some time getting to know the three of them better when you get the chance, you head for the ready room. In a message to Artesia aboard the Nagato, you ask her to share any details she can about any tests she's run on the triplets that could tell you more about their exact age, and what may have been done to them on Mars. You also share with her the details of what they mentioned earlier.

It takes another six hours to reach Australia. As the fires of re-entry subside and Defrah pulls the Valkyrie onto a stable heading, you ponder your options:

"Defrah," you begin, catching your helm's attention. "Bring us in, nice and slow. We're all friends here: one big, happy Federation family."

"Yours is the superior intellect," she replies with a roll of her eyes, punching in commands.

Much to your surprise, nothing noteworthy happens on approach.

"Message, Commander!" Reiko announces. "Patching it through!"

As it turns out, it's South.

"Go ahead and land, Commander," he tells you. "We already worked out our 'disagreements' with the Titans stationed here."

He gestures over his shoulder and takes a step to the side: three Titans are sitting in chairs behind him, thoroughly tied up.

"Who did those knots?" you ask, very much impressed at their quality.

South laughs loudly. "It was Nina, actually."

"Didn't know she was into that sort of thing," you reply with a shrug.

"Uraki is a lucky man, probably," Haman comments.

Carya raises her eyebrow. "Forget Nina, I had no idea YOU were into that."

South shrugs. "It's none of my concern what you young people are into these days. Oh, but one thing?"

"Yes?" you ask.

"Nina wants you to bring Miss Defrah with you. Won't explain why."

Upon landing South, Uraki, and Nina are all waiting for you to step off the ramp. You leave Rossweisse behind for now with the triplets, in case something goes wrong in the next few minutes.

"Good to see you again, sir," Uraki greets with a salute.

"And you," you return the salute. "I take it the Titans plants didn't give you trouble?"

"No, sir," he replies. "South and I had an easy time with it. Helped that we were teaching them wrong on purpose."

You give a long, loud laugh. "Wow, Uraki, since when did you get interesting?"

"Probably when he hooked up with Nina," Catrina teases. "Guys tend to chill out when they're in a relationship. They're not all high-strung... I've seen it happen, you know."

As the Sisters give you an elbow to the ribs, Nina waves you impatiently towards the hangers. "If you're quite finished, I'd like to show you why I wanted you to bring Defrah in particular."

"Okay," Defrah replies cautiously. "This better not end up with you telling me I've been on some sorta hidden camera TV show this whole time."

"Nope," Nina promises. "I think you're gonna LOVE this. It's the reason Titans has been on or collective asses so hard."

Inside the hanger, there's a long table almost devoid of the sort of parts or papers that litter every other surface. On it is a single box.

"Oooh," Defrah intones, "what's in the box, Nina!? What's in the box!? Is it a surprise? Huh? Huh? Izzetizzetizzet?"

Without a single word of explanation, Nina opens the box and removes a leg from it, placing it on the table.

Your group stares in stunned silence.

"Is that... what I think it is?" Haman asks quietly, breaking the silence.

"Artificial muscle fibres," Audrey confirms. "Holy crap, it's a one-to-one replica of a leg."

Nina grins manically at Defrah. "It's a brand new, state of the art system we've been working on. Electroactive polymer bundles that can change their state and shape based on a very small electric charge, mixed with Gundarium filaments for strength: essentially, it's just as efficient and strong as a biological limb, maybe stronger. And definitely more resilient."

"And it's just your size."

Defrah looks up at Nina in awe, and she wipes a tear from her eye. "How'd you get my measurements anyway?" she manages to choke out the joke.

Carrina's one good eye gleams with the beginnings of an idea. Though you can feel how excited she is for Defrah, something else is on her mind.

"How big can you make these?"

Nina's smile only grows wider.

Square cube law means mobile suits shouldn't work at all. It doesn't exist in mecha universes. Even if we were paying attention to it here for some reason, it could still be used to make for more dextrous manipulation by combining it with the M-particle motors our mobile suits use. Or do we use the fluid pulse motors Zeon likes? I'm just fascinate that they actually went into that much detail in coming up with mobile suits, that there are competing methods of actuator design.

Last post for now, but here are what the results of Artesia's report will be, since there's been some related discussion.

Dental eruption suggests late teens, and based on no erupted third molars, less than 21.

Based on complete humoral fusion, older than 14. Based on unfused distal radius, younger than 19. Final biological estimation: 15-19 years of age.

Based on interviews, emotional maturity is at least in the teens. Complicated by some atypical responses: particularly dealing with conflict management.
