As a fellow fa/t g/uy and chemical engineer was dying in a plane crash, the last thing he saw was his lucky d20 flying off his pocket.

He must've rolled a critical success in someone's reincarnation table, because the next thing he knew, he was reborn to a world of sword and sorcery the likes of which he had always dreamt of! A world with dragons, elves and knights, a world where he, now Eldric Lightbringer, is already 10 years old, and visiting his paternal family in the city of Eopolis together with his friends.

I hope it goes well for you.

We had a short extra on sunday, and the following happened.

We had some fun on thebeach, played around, ran a lot, had tasty food, build a sandcastle, and shot fireworks from it.

On the night, some men tried to kidnap Mako again, but we took them out and used our necromancer levels to preserve their bodies this time, so they could later be revived and questioned, which told us that they were working for Alquian agents, which surprised absolutely no one.

We argued with uncle Wolfric about letting us fight against the alquian agents in town, and while he was opposite to it, he finally relented, as long as we took Euphrosyte along to watch over us.

So... how did you plan to do this? we know the name of the would-be-kidnapper's contact, Formate, a lizard beastmen staying in the 9th ring of Eopolis, north sector, at the Peerless Pearl inn.

Uncke was largely right. I don't think any sort of make-up, cosmetics, trapish clothes or anything else will hide the lightbringer charisma that oozes out of Eldric.

We have such high scores it tends to skew everything. Like why are we not running the show.

We could be on the bust, but we are too likely to mess up infiltration. I am all for it until past the drrss up when it is decided it will not work and we need to get someone else to do the wet work.
>>
>>36285233
What is the point of disguise here? Just to get a positive ID on the contact before we nab him? If so go with the dwarf and use craftsman to make some props for ourselves to look more dwarvish. We don't need anything that will survive extended inspection, just something good enough so that lizard guy outs himself.
>>
>>36285344
Because we want to find out who this lizardman works for. Because Formate is just an agent, and we want his handler and the Alquian senior operative in charge of operations in this city.

Which we can get by interrogation.

I got this rather amusing idea... I know humour isint universal. Each time I watch a british comedy show i wonder "does ppl really think this is funny?" but I have an idea that I hope will at least be amusing, typing
>>
>>36285424
We get the name of their contact from the dwarf in exchange for a lesser sentence. Instead of being sold publically, his crew will be kept as slaves owned by the city during 5 years and then expelled from the city.

Well, it may sound harsh, but kidnapping is a serious crime, after all. Normally they would just be sold to a handler and shipped to a foodgeon group somewhere for life.

Now, with Honoria and Lyann's assistance, Eldric is underway to become a splendid dwarf.

"Needs more beard" ~says our pretty sister as she looks at us, dressed as a dwarf
"What? no! it's fine this long, what do you think dwarfs are, walking beards? needs more muscles" ~says Honoria
"I think we padded him enough, maybe he needs more tummy?"
"Dwaves do not have tummies!"
"Uh..."
"We do not!"
"..alright" ~says Lyann

Looking at ourselves in the mirror, we are a rather handsome, if boyish dwarf.

"Is he ready?" ~asks Aura as she peeks into the roon~ "OOh, that looks so funny! needs an axe, tho! or a hammer!"
"Wha- why?" ~asks Honoria
"I thought all dwarves used axes or hammers" ~says the succubi
"Not all"
"But... you're a dwarf and you use an axe"
"So? just because one dwarf uses an axe, it doesnt mean all dwarves use axes!" ~Honoria rebukes Aura off the room

"You know, it would look better with an axe" ~says Lyann while taking a critical look

The fake beard is itchy

"Eldric, don't scratch! dwarves don't scratch!" ~says Honoria
"Geez, okay!"

And thus, disguised as a dwarf, we go to meet with the kidnappers contact

"Alright... plug the hole after you are done"
"Sure"

"You are Laest?" ~asks Formate, a tall and lanky lizard beastmen
"I am. You are Formate?"
"Right... you look rather thin, for a dwarf. Why aren't you carrying an axe?"

Lyann gives Honoria a smug look (they're sitting in a nearby table)

"Not every dwarf uses an axe, you know!? should I make some lizard show joke, now?!"
"Jeez, calm down, you sure are as grumpy as any dwarf i've known!"

"Dwarves are not grumpy!" ~mumbles honoria, all grumpy-like

"So, how do we do this, now? we have the package in the back of a nearby wagon"
"Alright, here's the money." ~Formate places a bag of coins on the table
"Not so fast, it was really hard to get this package, you know? lost a few good men while at it!"
"We had a deal"
"I am altering the deal" ~we say in a serious voice~ "Pray I do not alter it any further"
"I don't have anything more on me, would need to... no, you will stick to your deal, nobody pulls this kind of move on the White Mouse Brotherhood!"
"White mice susterhood, eh?"

The beastman pulls out his sword...

Well, it was a short fight, which ended with us posessing a preserved beastmen body. Now what?

"Uhm? oh, its a pretty cute mouse... and you are sure this wasnt you being pranked? did you ever even meet anyone else on it?"

""No..."
"You sure? when was the last time you even saw anyone else? it could as well have just been a pink cat, and you would have gotten a tattoo anyway, wouldnt you? or a little pink pony, for the lady's sake!"
"Of course not! I meet my handler the 1st of every month, and the gold!"
"Oh Lady alive, you really think that just because you meet someone once a month and he has gold, he's part of some secret group? and you actually got tattooed..."

The guards are starting to chuckle... you had never seen a lizardman blush before. He looks much more distressed than when you were waterboarding him

"If I get someone to tattoo you a pink mice, does that mean you are a pink mice brotherhood member, too?"
"Is that a thing?"

That is countered by Elrick, being 40 years old and being well-educated in a First World nation, knows the disruptive effects of uncontrolled release of technology and knowledge.
And as for casually murdering people, he hasn't murdered anyone, he has killed in self-defense and in the defense of his friends.
And it's not like people necessarily stay dead in this world when they are killed.

If we use a standard Slave Collar. But since Okaba is so well-versed in Enchanting, he can just enchant any piece of gear with the desired curses.
So we could put the curses on some other piece of gear that wouldn't stand out so much.

Seriously, tho. Now we aren't sure this white mice brotherhood exists at all. It may just be someone having a laugh at the expense of an idiot

"Alright, so, you really think you are actually a member of a secret brotherhood, then?"
"Uh,,, yes?"
"And you know this because...? and dont say 'cause i got a tattoo' please"
"Because of the gold...?"
"I have gold, maybe I could just get someone on the street to tattoo themselves with 'I love mom' and tell them its a brotherhood, then? I mean, c'mon, i'm 10 and I can see you got duped!"

The guards are chuckling rather loudly now

"Oh, you're so smart, uh!?"
"No, you are just an idiot. Let's see, where were you meeting the guy?"
"The fountain in Golden Square at night, the 1st of every month"
"So... you have never seen the 'secret headquarters' have you?"
"I'm not high enough, yet"
"More like, there's no secret headquarters. Ugh I should just let them sell you as a slave, killing chickens may be just the right challenge for you. What does the guy look like? a guy with a cloak hiding his face so you cant tell he's laughing at you?"
"Human, tall, grey hair, wearing a red robe"
"Face covered?"
"...sometimes"

We look at the guards

"I know we can't place a collar on him until the court says he's guilty, but couldn't we just for a bit to make sure he's not lying?"

The guards apologize, but they say that is not possible.

Well now
1) Keep Mako hidden for the 3 days until the 1st of the new month, and go to that meeting
2) Start looking for people with tattooed white mice
3) Try our luck spreading rumours in the adventurer's guild, saying we want to meet with this brotherhood, while keeping Mako hidden

We need to get a "truth manacles". its not a slave collar, it does NOT force obedience nor denote your status as a slave.
It just forces you to not lie and answer questions you are asked
So that someone can get it before their conviction for interrogation purposes. since its not a slave collar, they aren't a slave

To clarify, in >>36286845 I was not saying that we were WRONG to kill them.
I was merely pointing out that we have perma killed sapients before
I am 100% ok with killing them for what they tried to do.

I am also of a mind that we should rescue mako's sister before she gets raped by her "husband" (if she hasn't been already). remember her sister is 10 years old and has been married for a few years to the visir who orchastrated the death of their mother, the previous visir, and their 3 older adult older sisters. As well as intentionally putting mako in an easy to kidnap spot and tipping off the alquarans about it.

That's more of a long term goal. Bad guy won on that one sadly. Bastard pulled off a perfect coup d'etat, we'll need some major power to undo that and that'll take a few years to build up. That has unfortunate implications yes, but smart good guys only go in once their victory is probable.

Even if the evil you witness is reprehensible in the extreme, to just blindly oppose it because "it's the right thing to do" will land you either in jail or in a casket without really doing much of anything. Gotta be the smart good guy.

>>36287221

Well, this guy is too stupid to be lying, anyway... but now we aren't sure if that brotherhood is even real.

For now, we are keeping Mako in the house. She's not happy about it, but she's a nice girl and understands the why, so it's not a problem.

She does want us to stay and play with her, tho.

As for looking for that brotherhood... we ask uncle and gtandfather, but neither of them have heard of it. Does it even exist?

Well, its alright, Mako is fun to be around, so that's not really a chore. But what do we do about the lizarman's handler?

1) Try to disguise ourselves as a lizardman and go. We have good enough cha and app, we can probably pull this through the same shady mechanics that causes people to ignore skimpy clothes on dancers

True, but that knowledge is extremely ridiculously scarce and guarded by good people, and who is to say we would personally encounter someone who has that specific thing? and we have an entire party that is min maxed so if we do, it would be a gangup.

>probley one or to over there as well also an entire army that could fuck up the common peoples
Probably not. if they had it they would be conquering, considering what sort of imperial nation they are.
The visir MIGHT be one himself. But I doubt he shared the info

>and then who knows how she will be stockholm syndrome, and brain washing are a hell of a thing.
extremely unlikely. it hasn't been that long, and he is too busy ruling. I doubt he focuses his time on her rather than his rulership.
Also, stockholm does not apply here at all because it is based on isolation where the only person the victim can interact with is their kidnapper. However, as a princess she is interacting constantly with an array of servants.
Plus, we are gonna kidnap her anyways and worse comes to worse, we deprogram her. The fact her sister is with us and how much they love each other helps a lot.

Besides which, how the fuck is that an argument to leave her there for years instead of getting her ASAP? that actually supports my argument not yours.
>>
>>36287375
>Honestly, a trial and investigation within 3 days of the arrest seems highly fucking illegal
investigation happens before an arrest. and there is not much to investigate. we have the testimony of dwarves, we caught him red handed (and it wasn't just us), and then he admitted it all in prison.
so all there is to do is a trial.

And we are talking about a world where orphans are sold as slaves and shoplifting makes you a slave for life. so I don't expect that much from the justice systems of that world.

that being said, we are now in eupolis not in the amoral wizard city. so they might have more just rules. still there is the orphanage issue.

what, like, we throw criminals into ponds and if they float, theyre guilty, so they weight less than ducks?

***
Let's try this out...

Eldric goes and writes "lizardman" on top of his forehead, then calls Lyann in.

"Eldric, what is i... what are you doing?"

Well... if that had been enough to work, we would have had to suspect some sort of waaaagh-like psychic force at work, which would have been funny in its own way

Wait... Lyann also has pretty good stats, let's try again by asking a random maid...

"W-who are you!? where's the young master!?"

Wait, seriously? no... wait... oh, she's playing with us. I see, she's just indulging the 10 years old.

Well, she's a nice person, I guess. Also, its good to know, after all.

But how do we disguise ourseves as a lizardman almost twice our height?

Well, after a while, we decide to ask help from uncle Wolfric, who is more than happy to be the bait in our operation.

And thus, uncle Wolfric is the lizardman for now.

The first of next month, we are standing on the roofs around the plaza, hidden while waiting for the lizardman's contact.

As the man shows up, exactly as described, we simply move in to arrest him, and he cries out as some cursed item kills him.

So... maybe someone else was watching? from where? or was that automatic? anyway, we stabilize his body and strip him to remove whatever caused his death,

This is starting to get serious. Now we have suicide agents, too?

Alright... we could not get a truthsaying bracelet done in time before, but we get Okaba to make one for this guy.

His name is Ahbdul, and he's from the not-Arabia... I mean, Alquian empire, so... there's that.

From him, we manage to learn a few things. That he's in contact by letter with the empire, that his orders are almost two years old (there were standing orders to kidnap and send Mako to the empire in every mayor city, it seems), that he doesn't knows about any other agents, but that he's sure they must exist, and that he had a emergency item at his room in the Falling Candle inn, where he was staying.

Looking at all of his posessions... the item that killed him was a ring, apparently matched with another.

And his emergency item was a random teleport scroll.

Well, It would have sent him e miles away in a random direction... not a bad escape tool, I guess.

Honestly, if they could make something like that, didint it make more sense to just releport when caught, instead of killing him? what? how do these Alquians think?

>>
Well, I guess they didin't want anyone to know what the failed agent looked like, but still... just killing your man like that... harsh

Tracking the killer shows us to the ring it used. So now we have both rings... maybe one day they may be of use?

[Exceptional][Ring of Stewardship] [3/4 empty slots]
Bonus: +10 SR
Enchantment: Upon activation, this ring will kill the wearer without fail

Well, it was abandoned together with some clothes, so it's unlikely that we will find the agent now. Still, we did manage to get a copy of the letters the agents had been receiving, which is official proof of the Alquian empire's actions, but... technically we are still at war with them, aren't we? so... we can prove they have been spying on us but, so what?

What should we do with this? The orders have an official wax seal on them, which we could rip out, carefully, and re-attach somewhere else to make our own orders, one day. Or we could keep the letters as they are, and use them as evidence one day.

yes. They are the orders to watch out for, and kidnap mako when possible. These orders are actually two years old, which if you are paying attention, makes them older than our friendship with her

Two years ago she was just arriving on the continent, so basically, whoever sent her to this continent, also let alquia know about it right then and there, and they have been looking for her ever since

***

A few days later, we are playing with crayons in Mako's room. She is quite a good artist, really. She's drawing Ami while the shadow lies down on the floor with an apple on top of her head.

We ...explain things to her... gently.

Well, she's a smart, sensitive girl. Maybe she trusts us too much? when we explain things to her, she just comes over and hugs us.

"But... Eldric will stay with me, right? You keep me safe?"
"Of course" ~we smooch the top of her head as we hug her

She's tiny and soft and warm.

We gently hug and rub her back, and promise to take care of her. She is obviously scared.

Asking her about how she got to the continent, we slowly rebuild a pretty accurate version of what happened to her.

"Eldric, I want to see my sister" ~she says softly
"We will go visit her one day"
"Really?"
"Yes, I promise"

She gives us a radiant smile, and clings from us for a while.

After a while, Ami picks her up and puts her to bed.

For now, it looks like Eopolis is safe for her, at least while she's staying with us. They did try to abduct her when she was out of town, and in Albion, but not while she's been in Eopolis.

You know, I had a cute idea for the next morning, and then the coming month or so, but i suddenly got this idea i just really want to do for this scene. Like "And thus, Mako climbed unto Eldric's bed" and then fast forward 2-3 years in Albion to the morning when dad decides that enough is enough, we aren't in the age where we can just "safely" cuddle, sleep and bathe with girls any more.

Specially since the girls have been steadily growing more and more upfront about liking us all this time, and it's not "cute" anymore to go into his 12-13 years old son and finding him sleeping covered in nude teen girls, you know?

Wont get shipped off right away, still got to do 2 mayor plotpoints in Albion, at least, but I think its a good point to FF to about that point.

Mako holds from our pajamas as she sleeps. Seriously, her sleeping face is just so cute! Gently, caressing her face with a fingertip...

"Ah, I like doing that, too" ~Mai causes our heart to leap out of our mouth as she just suddenly speaks behind us... in the bed!?
"Wha- when did y-?"

She totally ignores us, and stretches over us to gently brush some hair off from Mako's face.

"She's adorable, isn't she?" ~she says
"Ah... yes. Uhmm... are you naked?"
"Yes"
"Why are you naked?"
"I don't have pajamas."
"I'll get you some"
"thanks"

"Can I get some, too?" ~asks Ami from behind Mako
"Ah... sure" ~she's there when we turn around from looking at Mai.

Really, the bed is quite wide, but with four people... well, whatever

Mako is sleeping quite soundly, isin't she? well, they say that the innocent can sleep through anything, after all.

The next morning, Mako is already awake when we open our eyes. She was sitting on the bed next to us, sitting on her heels with her legs together as she draws our sleeping face.

Well, it's a very, very good portrait for a 10 years old. Also, it's made in crayons.

"Good morning!" ~she says with a smile
"Good morning"

She looks like she's already had a shower and a change of clothes... yeah, she's wearing a different pajama, isin't she?

"Mako, why are you still wearing pajamas?"
"But... we are in the bed. You wear pajamas in bed"

Well... she's not wrong

She pats pats our face softly. Ah... her hands are soft and warm, it feels pretty nice.

"Eldric's head has a funny shape" ~she says with a smile

the problem is that it sounds like something that has no first principles.
its like saying "what if we did FTL research?" how? how would you even start to come up with something like that?
>>
>>36289821
wut
We know exactly how to place enchantments on objects. All that would need to be done for this test it to place an enchantment on a card and slot it in to see what effect it has.
>>
>>36289840
You are not asking to just "try to enchant a card with an additional enchantment and then stick it in something".
You are asking to powerup the card's existing buff from a curse you add to it.
Also asking to power southern enchanments with slots instead of curses.

Now, a more reasonable experiment would be
"take a junk card, try to put an enchantment on the card, then insert it into something". that would tell us a lot.

then again, it might also create a demon

NOT merely "try to enchant a card and insert it", but "try to modify a card's operation with a curse"... unless you are under the delusion that powering items via curses is just a matter of slapping a curse on it rather than actually linking a curse to the enchantment in a manner that lets it draw power from the curse.
>Or trying to power southern enchanments with slots instead of curses?
might as well say "lets research FTL". we have no first principles here.

Well, he's not wrong, but the ship will make money constantly and probably faster, unless we spend a large amount of time on the dungeons every day.

Grandpa messes with our hair slightly, and organizes a trip to the nomad's tents.

Honestly, it looks like a tiny city or a large town. There are just that many tents in place.

We have fun sampling exotic foods and looking at the goods the nomads bring from all over the continent....

You are going around on grandpa's left shoulder, while Stella and Zoe wrap their hands around each of his index fingers. Well, it's just that grandfather's hands are that big. Lyann is holding hands with Stella, which makes this more of a family excursion.

As your group goes around, you are sitting on grandpa¿s left shoulders, which means you are quite high over the crowd, when you spot a girl's long hair going up in a rather familiar way...

but surely no... not in this world, right?

"Grandfather, can we go that way?"
"Sure"

Indeed... there is a clay pot with two copper rods sticking out of it, and people is playing around with it... it's a primitive battery, isin't it?

"Oh, can I buy this?" ~we talk with the nomad while Zoe is having fun as her soft white hair flies upwards.
"Sorry kid, we had to bring it all the way from Bastion, you know?"

Bastion, eh? that's where the rockit ship technology came from... they have electricity over there?

"How much would it take for you to sell me this?"
"heh, at least a hundred golds"
"Sold"
"Uh?"
"100g is fine. I'm buying it"
"Eldric, what is it?" ~asks Lyann

Stella is having fun touching Zoe with the rods and making her fluffy hair stand on end

"It's a battery" ~says Eldric
"Well, they call these Juicers in Bastion"

Of course they don't call them batteries! How many things they have in this world we could make use of, which we dont know about simply because they go by other name!?

Someday, we need to travel the world and see for ourselves.

"Juice?"
"In a manner of speaking"

"Oh, don't drink the contents, young lord, it's poison!" ~says the nomad
"It's just a figure of speech... nevermind. I won't"

What do they use these for in Bastion? do they have lightbulbs? heh, if we could start a lightbulb factory, then we could really bring some light to the north.

"Oh, electricity, how I have missed thou!"~says our reborn engineer~ "Truly, one never appreciates things until one loses them"

Ah, perhaps we shouldn't get too excited.. it's just a claypot battery, after all, but just the fact that it works in this world it's SO encouraging!

Hah! now we get to show off to Okaba! he may know a lot about enchanting, but I bet he's never faced SCIENCE(tm) before!

Well, we have enough materials... ney, more than enough materials to try a few times.... but it doesn't work

We can make the metal base (the mound), and we can make the glass bulb, but... it's not empty. The copper burns out in a moment.

How do we make an empty lightbulb? do we need to "teach the gods" what we are trying to do?

Can't we just make a pump? Add a little spigot to the lightbulb, connect it to a pump and crank that sucker for a while. Close the spigot, apply current and voila.

Sounds like we'll need to visit Wikipedia in our head

>>
>>36292531
We could try casting a very small fire spell inside the lightbulb after it is closed to use up all the oxygen.
>>
>>36292572
how do you close the spigot before the lightbulb gets air back on it again?
>>
>>36292611
uhmm.... is not a bad idea, but its very likely to hurt the wires or the lightbulb
>>
>>36292614
Turn? I mean, it's basically a valve. As long as it's closed while the pump is providing a pressure gradient, it shouldn't allow air back in.

Light bulbs use tungsten not copper
>>
>>36292680
Yeah, you need resistance to get the heat which then radiates.
>>
>>36292531
Well, this doesn't scale that well for mass production, but...

Assuming that suffocation deals damage on a per round basis:
Get an airtight room
Burn all the air out with REGULAR fire, directing the smoke upward.
Make and seal the lightbulb

Carbon dioxide/monoxide is at least less flammable than oxygen.

>>36292644
I thought magic wasn't allowed to do anything other than damage?

But seriously, what do we do if we accidentally blow up the battery?
>>
>>36292572
what is the point of a pump?

>>36292611
sounds legit

>>36292644
specifically design the bulb with a fire chamber where you can burn out the oxygen that won't reach the wire, by providing some thermal insulation between the two.
Actually, we could do that without even a fire spell, just a piece of smoldering wood inside. it will give a bit a smoky texture to the bulb, but that is fine.
>>
>>36292644
why not use the fabricate ability to directly fabricate the gas inside the bulb? maybe make it a halogen bulb instead of an incadescent one?
>>
Obviously, we cannot ever have a true vacuum, that's why most light bulbs are filled with inflammable gas.
>>
>>36292611
Wouldn't work. The magic fire doesn't have a fuel source, so it needs no accelerant. The oxygen wouldn't be combined with anything.
>>
>>36292745
you can have a true vacuum, its not practical though.
>>
>>36292531

For a battery you need to vacuum out the air. A simple pump/bellows will lower the air pressure, and then fuse the glass hole off while it is sucking.

For the filament, use some fine charcoal. At the start they used bamboo as a source of charcoal.

So first you make the bulb. Place the wire in. Leave a small hollow 'stem' that sticks both up into the bulb and out from the bottom.

Use a small pump to pull the air out. Fuse the hole closed after pumping air out for a bit.
>>
>>36292986

Edit, not battery of course, bulb.

Alright, we can certainly make a pump so...

"Brother, what are you doing?" ~Zoe hugs Eldric from behind, squeezing him tightly as she enjoys rubbing her face against his, and purring

This girl... you're a lion, remember? a lion, not a house kitty, Zoe!

"Ah, wait a bit and you'll see"
"Okay" ~she's not letting go of the hug, tho

Ah, this feels nostalgic. Even tho it was just a few months ago, we used to bathe her without a single lewd thought in mind, didin't we? now that she knows how to behave like a girl, it's just not the same.

Well, we can still at least pamper her a little without trouble,

So, we pump the lightbulb full of gas and close it. Thankfully, there are volcanoes and other obvious sources of gas, so the gods seem to understand the concept.

Now that we made one "by hand", we try making another with our fabricate skill... and it works right away.

Alright, good. This is good, let's try it out...

Uhmm... its barely glowing at all, uh? I guess the batter- I mean, the juicer, is fairly weak... actually, won't we need to come up with a way to measure voltage and such from now on?

Well...

"Zoe, can you close the courtains, please?"
"Sure!"

Ah, Zoe is a good girl, she listens to everything we say without complaining, doesn't she?

1/?
>>
>>36292745
The reason gas is used is because glass can't really take the PSI of the outside world without something to "push back". A hard vacuum in a standard light bulb would result in it being crushed by atmospheric pressure.

That the thing people forget about vacuums, nature abhors them and wishes to fill them ASAP. If the vessel for the vacuum isn't sturdy enough to stand against normal air pressure it will be crushed.

With the curtains closed, the room is in gloom, and the bulb's shine is more obvious.

"Hah! it works!" ~cheers Eldric
"Works!" ~cheers Zoe.

She doesn't knows what it is, but Eldric seems happy, so she's happy, too.

"Ah, I need to go get Okaba..."

A few minutes later

"...interesting. You say this is not magic?"
"Right"
"But, why bother? wouldn't a permanent light spell be hardier and much simpler?"
"Yes, but we can't mass produce those. It takes us about an hour to make a single everburning candle, doesn't it? besides, it's just ONE use for it"
"The lightbulb?"
"No, I mean, for electricity. In fact, I think a machine using some electrical and some magical parts should be possible!"
"Sure?" ~says Okaba, still not sure why his young friend is so excited

In fact... wait... the everbright candle doesn't give off heat, right? we can't use it as an energy source, but... surely the freezer box... we certainly can make use of something that constantly cools objects inside them, and it SHOULD be possible to make one that constantly emits heat, too!

Yes! now that we have proof electricity works in this world, and once we make a magical, permanent heat source...

"We CAN make permanent heat sources, right? like with the freeze box, but in reverse"
"Sure" ~says Okaba~ "But you have to be careful. Obviously, it is much easier to get hurt handling heat"
"Right. Well, we have healing magic, anyway"
"It still hurts."
>>
>>36293320
So we're making a steam engine now?
>>
>>36293320
>constantly cools objects inside them
wait...cheap superconductors!?
>>
>>36293320

I think if we fast forward/time skip, we should spend time working with Okaba at university.

We need to purchase some barrels of oil from nomads and then see if we can process it to plastics or other products. We work on the process with Okaba and once we go ahead and return to Eopolis we can set up an industry here, or in one of the allied countries. Make make the process and then sell some how to Black Lake.

>>36293320
>cant we use thicker glass?
maybe, its far more practical to just use a different gas.
>>
>>36293496
>maybe
Vacuum tubes are a thing, anon.

>>36293484
With the way fabricate works we don't need to develop a process, just a final product. That makes things much easier.
>>
>>36293320
>>36293433
the issue with permanent heat source bases team engine is that its better to just make a perpetual motion machine via enchantment.

Also, for electricity, couldn't we enchant an object to act as a battery instead of using chemical reactions? again, to provide greater efficiency?
>>
>>36293516

Maybe, might need to prove it could be done first. Make the process, teach how it is done, then can make it.

I think we needed to make a 'proof' light bulb before we could go ahead and fabricate future ones.

Of course a pollution free steam engine + dynamo can make electricity.

Wonder if Okaba has a way to turn enchantments on or off as needed. An always on heat source is bad. The same with an always on electricity generator.
>>
>>36293553
how do you manage that with magic? Mana crystals can store mana, but are there enchantments that consistently cast electricity spells on their own?

Or were you planning something else?
>>
>>36293594
There is an enchantment that can constantly produce heat, and cold.
Why wouldn't there be one that constantly produces electricity?
>>
>>36293553
>better to just make a perpetual motion machine via enchantment.
Okaba has done all the hard work for this part already. He just needs to repurpose his self moving chairs/legs so they can work like a piston and you get internal combustion engines without the need for fuel.

>>36293583
There's a world of difference between making a prototype and making an industrial process.
>>
>>36293637
>Okaba has done all the hard work for this part already. He just needs to repurpose his self moving chairs/legs so they can work like a piston and you get internal combustion engines without the need for fuel.
yea, and you can also tie one of those to a dynamo to get infinite electricity if for some odd reason you can't enchant an infinite electric battery.

I think the real boon of electricity would be computers... the problem is that i am loathe to introduce computers to a world that runs on code. next thing you know we have hackers and the world falls apart.

>>36293553
it IS more efficient, but it takes a while for every enchantment. It would take about an hour to make a "lightning stone" while it would take literally 3 seconds to make 6 double A batteries with the fabricate skill
Well, I guess it depends on which way to want the slider to be in the QUALITY<========>MASSIVE AND CHEAP scale

Lightning stone would be
Q<II=======>M

while batteries would be

Plastic, by definition, is an artificial organic compound. its made from carbs
IRL plastic can be converted into oil quite easily, you have bacteria that evolved in the last 50 years that eats it. And there is "eco plastic" which isn't plastic at all but 100% natural plant fibers injection molded to look like a plastic bottle.

I would still think that there should be "premium magic batteries". expensive but useful in some scenarios.

Also, for super ultra premium. A chemical battery with an enchantment that restores its chemical state to "new" constantly. in such a manner the enchantment keeps the battery eternally full. but if you enter an anti magic zone, the electronic equipment will continue working (only now it drains the battery until you leave the antimagic zone).
