Captain's Log.
Stardate: My watch is broken.
This mission has gone astoundingly well. We carry with us a package of information vital to the Federation fleet, which could turn the tide of war against the Rebels. We escaped from one of the few remaining Federation forward bases with the entire Rebel fleet on our ass, in what used to be, in essence, a suped-up Engi ambulance. We've charged through five sectors of space, with the Rebels in hot pursuit the entire time. We've seen sights, wondered at natural wonders, and killed 96 people not counting civilian casualties. But who's counting, anyway?

The ship is no longer a suped-up ambulance. We pilot a deadly fighter craft with a sturdy shield and an incredible combination of heavy ordinance and Drone weaponry. We're fully crewed as well, with myself, Captain Tom Hinderson at the helm, The Droids at Weapons and Doors, the psychic/slugman/prostitute/morale officer/gunnery seargent/doctor Dr. Mr. Derek, Nikolai the Engi engineer, and Hippy, the peace-loving, pretty stupid Zoltan emissary.

Sitting in the Long-Range Jump Ring, we ponder our course. We appear to be connected to...
Oh, it's just the one. We go ahead and jump.

We arrive in the Slug Nebula. Initial scans report: the scanners are totally broken in this thick cloud of particulate matter. We'll be flying blind most of the time in here. Where should we stop first?

NW. Hit the nebula then go for the store to get some juice.

North West? What kind of academy flunkie are you!? Everybody knows that there are no cardinal directions in space, because all distances and directions are relative!
That being said, we head SpaceNorthwestward, which is the standard notation of space navigation.
We arrive at the jump beacon, only to find a fully-kitted Mantis Hunter ship! Derek, peering through the nebula with his finely-tuned Slugman eyes, blanches, or as far as a race with pale blood can. The ship is slathered with Slug blood. They've been hunting.
They spot us immediately, and move in to attack! What are our tactics?
>>
>>36277076
All we do is fight, we let them board us and try diplomacy.
>>
>>36277076
God knows engies can't fight. Hit the shields then the oxygen, they won't warp.
>>
>>36277206
Herp, they won't teleport boarders.

We power down weapons, and hail them. "Hello, honored hunting party! We would be delighted to have you aboard! We, too, are predators-of-lessers, and have many stories to share!" Hinderson shouts through the comms.
Or, he thinks that's about what that is. He's translating out of the pocket guidebook in the glove compartment, and the thing hasn't been accurate yet.

They send over their best diplomatic crew, armed to the teeth with laser pistols and very sharpened mandibles, and start beating the shit out of R3D0.

>>36277206
Yeah weapons back on and charging.
>>
>>36277232
Fuck. Evacuate R3DO to the medbay, and then evacuate (as in fill with vacuum) the ship. Our squishy, squishy Engis can't stop Mantises.

We command the droid to head the Medical for repairs, and begin to open the doors to Door Control, so that we can space these bug bastards!
And then they disconnect the remote door control, leaving us with a half-decompressed ship and no way to close or open the other doors.

It's a mad dash around the ship as the Engi struggle to get out of the way and fix broken systems while Derek and Hippy (Somehow okay with using some sort of green ninja nonsense to dispatch these marauders) subdue the targets. In the end, they probably do more damage than the enemy ship.

The enemy ship itself it kitted out with average equipment; in typical circumstances they couldn't breach our shield. But the invader's first target after doors is shields, and they enemy ship focuses fire to bring it all the way down, leaving us defenseless before their hull-cutting beam weaponry! We just pour all we can into their artillery bay in order to bring the weapons offline, letting the guns fire full-auto as we manage the chaos in our own ship. Eventually the enemy ship blows apart.

Aaaand FTL has crashed.

We warp into the zone, and come across a Mantis hunter ship. As if guided by a guardian spirit, Hinderson knows, just KNOWS, that these fuckers are going to warp into door control and proceed to fuck up everything forever. He stations the men to guard the area with their lives, as we set our sights on their teleporter bay and weapons. There could be no possibility of diplomacy with these deranged killers.

They warp into the O2 room and instantly disconnect the fragile pipes from the rest of the ship.
But things go pretty well, all in all! The ship is destroyed, (Leaving the exact same loot as before) and we have a pair of choices as to where to jump. A commercial shop signal is being broadcast from nearby, but we can just squeak by into one of the few non-clouded sectors of space here.

We cruise into a Slug trading colony. Is making deals with mind readers a really, really terrible idea?
Yes.
But they ARE selling things. We go ahead and buy all their SpaceGas and get some plating to fix up the ship. They have a pile of upgrades for sale.

We also have a few things knocking about we could sell, if we wanted.
A note: We have two Ion weapons. The Ion Burster MK2, in Cargo, is quick, small, and gets the job done well. It fires faster than anything else we have. The Chain Ion Cannon, currently equipped, fires FOUR TIMES slower than anything else we have, at first. But with every shot, the charge time and power of the shot increases. Perhaps we should consider which one of these is best for us, and ditch the other?

We sell out Chain Ion, install the Ion Blaster MK2, and but a drone recovery arm. With it, any drones just lying around after a fight will get added to our pile, which is pretty neat, I have to say. Then, we buy the best locks we can find for our doors! All doors now the the ADVANCED SPACE AGE TECHNOLOGY of deadbolts.
We have nothing but clear skies ahead, so where do we go?

We head towards the eddy in the astral currents of this nebula, where no clouds gather. This being a Slug quadrant, a species born and at home in the gaseous murk, perhaps it's not surprising that there is nobody to be found out here. Just empty space, connecting the two main clouds of this zone. Where to?
>>
>>36278769

Space south.

>>

The route to the south doesn't actually meet with the Exit point; it eventually loops to the Store. But surely there's only fun and excitement to be had, while narrowly dodging the rebels, right?
Right?
Surely this whole place isn't just empty, right?
>>
>>36278893
Space South again, we'll find adventure even if it kills us!
>>
>>36278893
Space south then. So long as there's a way out.
>>
>>36278893
Keep heading downwards. This place may seem empty, but Slugs can pop up in the most unexpected places.

Finally, a hit on the radar! Which is actually just Derek swiveling his eyestalks in a comical manner in order to detect vitals, because fuck all works in this damn cloud. It appears to be a ship who've run out of fuel. However, they have pirate markings all over them.

>I don't know if option 2 will allow for diplomacy and aid, or if it just avoids the encounter. Could be either.
>>
>>36279006
Hail! Hail! Hail and Kill!
>>
>>36279006
Attack. Space cultists are not safe to leave around, and besides, killing them and looting the ship is more merciful than leaving them to starve in deep space.

Or at least that's what the Zoltan envoy says.

Yes, yes, we must show them mercy. We hail them.
"Hello! Oh, thank god you've found us, we've been stuck drifting out here for hours!"
"Yes, you truly are fortunate we've found you! We're going to show you the ultimate mercy and give you a quick, painless death rather than let you starve out here. You pirate cultist squid-worshiping motherfuckers."
How do we make them dead?
>>
>>36279107
Mind Control anyone who enters the teleporter room. Our crew isn't the best at repelling boarders
>>
>>36279107
Flak the shields, laser the hull ion anything that looks like a threat.
>>
>>36279107
Charge and prep guns. Then mind control the pilot and volley their guns.

Except ion which spams shields.

Vent to deal with boarders.

The fight is a piece of cake! The boarders can't do anything to bust our deadbolted doors, and have to warp out before they suffocate. And the mind-controlled captain beats on their systems in a wild panic! After he comes to, we receive a panicked call.
"Jesus H SpaceChrist, what the hell is wrong with you?! We aren't even pirates, this whole thing is a huge misunderstan-"
Oh no it would appear a piece of flak cannon debris has hit their comms array.
>>

You know what? I agree, I'm about to sleep too.

It doesn't help that FTL just crashed again.
I'd appreciate it if somebody threw this into the archive with the rest. Sorry for the short thread, if any regulars are around.
>>

Okay, it's up.

Feeling up to running tomorrow? We could keep the thread bumped.

First bump.
>>
>>36281794
No, no, don't bump it, I couldn't host tonight. Have things tomorrow I'd rather get some sleep for.
>>
>>36281820
Okay, I'll just let it drop then.
