I shortened my namefaggery edition.

Affiliated Twitter: https://twitter.com/SithEmpQuest

You are Zakm'yle'neras, better known as Mylene, you are a chiss, you are 10 years old and you are just about to take a shuttle to Korriban's surface.

You were previously in the middle of a riddle smackdown with some of your fellow acolytes; the twins Zakk & Kagg, and the third human of the group, Moriana. Kagg won, and then someone you presume to be an overseer came to collect you all.

Now I realise I was quite remiss in my descriptions of the gathered populace in the last thread, mostly because I was a glorious combination of tired, lazy and a newfag. This shall be remedied.

Zakk & Kagg
Humans, male, identical twins. Dark tan skin, blue-grey eyes, black hair. In pretty good shape as children go, and wearing pretty nice clothes. Surname unknown, but they referred to a Darth Zarkus as their father.

Moriana
Human, female. Pale white skin, green eyes, red-orange hair. Looks skinny and sickly. Has some sort of symbol branded on her face over her left eye. Wouldn't be unfair to describe her clothing as ragged. Surname likewise unknown.

A Twi'lek
Twi'lek, male. Light blue skin, didn't see him up close enough to pick out eye colour or any distinctive features. Looked about as well off as Moriana, which is to say, not at all.

An alien
Unknown species and gender. Mottled brown skin, large black eyes, seemed to have some kind of breathing apparatus grafted to their face. Dressed in pretty standard travelling garb.

[1/2]
>>
[2/2]

"Acolytes. With me."

The instruction is pretty clear cut, this isn't a request or advice, you'll do what he says or else, more or less.

Moriana and the Twi'lek seem pretty quick to obey, standing to attention and moving closer to the robed man, followed shortly thereafter by the other alien. Zakk and Kagg seem a little caught up in their death-stares, and it takes you getting up and joining the others to make them set aside their reignited rivalry for now and do as they're told.

Talking as he leads the way, the human introduces himself; "I am Overseer Galsenn, and I will be ultimately responsible for you during your time on Korriban. You'll report to other Overseers for specific instruction, but in the end, you answer to me."

He pauses as he comes to a door, inserting a keycard to open the way to the Academy's own shuttle bay.

"I trust you won't fail me. If you do, it'll be me you beg for your life."

Well. This is all getting quite intense for a group of ten year olds. But Korriban never was known for its childcare, and the Overseers are tasked with weeding out the weak, not looking after them.

Lets be quiet, observe, and profile the man. See how we can appeal to him and what his personality is like, should we actually need to use authority to our advantage.

>>36271264
Fair enough I suppose. If we can get the other students to either like us or respect us then we stand a much better chance of avoiding backstabbing and getting the teachers to respect us will probably result in them putting in a good word for us.

[ ] Ask Galsenn a question (Wanna force arm wrestle?)
>>
>>36271052
Wow, I suck at this. I'm going to be an excuse-mongering goob and blame it on the alcohol. I mean it's not like I'm such an idiot I thought #thread would actually make a link, but equally posting a link sure is a lot faster than making you lot go find the thread in the catalog. Anyhow, learning by doing. That's how we roll in this neck of the woods.

---

Galsenn seems very serious, probably best just to do as he says and take your time to gauge his personality, figure out how best to proceed to get on and stay on his good side. In fact you're pretty sure that's standard behaviour at all levels of Imperial society, if you plan on surviving long at least. Learning how to make nice with people you either hate, or probably will some day, the good lessons are already being learned!

So, keeping your mouth shut, you follow the Overseer's lead to the shuttle and climb aboard. The others follow suit, apparently taking your lead here. Maybe an unintentional side-effect of your little display back in the waiting area, but not necessarily unwelcome?

Once all six of you are aboard and seated, Galsenn himself boards, closing the hatch behind him.

"You'll find that I, like the Empire, am harsh, unforgiving, and fair. I'm here to produce the next generation of Sith, so no, I will not sabotage you. That's for your fellows to do. But neither will I hold your hands, I'd sooner see the lot of you dead than living embarrassments."

Pause for effect.

"So know that your stay here will be an only slightly more forgiving mirror of your future as real Sith. There are rules, but if nobody sees you break them... well. Your goal will be to survive, and not just to succeed, but to set yourself even further ahead by having your peers fail. To be Sith is to be ruthless, to do what you must to not just survive, but to thrive."

[1/2]
>>
>>36271545
[2/2]

The shuttle's engines kick in, and you feel the craft lift into the air to begin its journey.

"If you don't understand now, fear not, you'll learn quickly enough."

And then you're off. Launching towards your new, potentially very short and violent, life on Korriban.

You suppose you've a few minutes to pass, and Galseen seems to have nothing further to add.

[X] Talk to Overseer Galsenn
Ask him about what we're going to be doing, what our next few days are going to be like, what are our living arrangements like, assuming we don't already know any of these things.

[X] Talk to Overseer Galsenn
Ask him if we can ask questions. If we can ask him what we can be expecting from the training. If not we shut up.

Anyways I am thinking we try to team up with the twins on the basis that we can deal with the Acolytes without proper Sith parents first. Playing them on their feelings of superiority. The girl from earlier we can probably befriend and gain her as an ally. Twi'lek is probably a force sensitive slave so the only real wild card is the strange alien.
>>
>>36271609
true, but I'd rather ask somewhere not in front of the other acolytes so that they aren't also prepared.
>>
We should try to basically learn things and be alert and aware at this stage in our development. It's unlikely that we'll be able to deal with any other acolytes permanently right now, and we'll do ourselves no favors by making enemies.
If anything, we should try to be actively friendly to everyone while subtly pitting them against each other.
We should also try to be the kind of acolyte Galsenn wants to see in his eyes, whatever that might be.

Deciding that now's the time to get some information and network with the authority, you make your way over to where the Overseer is seated, addressing him as formally as you can without seeming, well, sycophantic.

"Excuse me, Overseer? May I ask you something?"

"I imagine anything you want to know will be part of the more formal induction in the Academy itself, but..." he regards you as a pawnbroker might a piece of jewellery, trying to assess your worth. "Ask away."

"What can I expect from my first few days? Where will we be living, for instance?"

He seems almost displeased. Perhaps he's heard this line of questioning before, or he expected something less mundane? "Exactly the sort of thing you'll be told very shortly."

What happened to the last group of acolytes he watched over? How many survived? Was he pleased by the outcome or disappointed? What kind of mistakes did they make that we could avoid?

"Can I ask... what happened to the last group of acolytes you trained?"

He looks thoughtful. That's the sort of inside information he probably shouldn't be revealing if he wants to keep this thing fair. But that's a different sort of fair; nothing's stopping the other acolytes from asking, or finding out some other way.

"So what happened to the other ones?"

Galsenn looks you over. Trying to gauge exactly what you mean, perhaps.

"I suppose you might not have heard, being chiss. Typically failures don't survive, some fall along the way, and most Overseers set a final trial the only one acolyte can win, if more than one is left."

He doesn't seem to be all too bothered about saying this openly, either, not that he's projecting loudly enough for everyone to hear, but he's certainly not keeping his voice down to prevent listening in, either.

"You're an odd sort of kid, most acolytes your age fear the Overseers and keep their distance." he adds, again looking thoughtful.

The motion of the landing craft changes, slowing down to a stop, then beginning to descend vertically, just about quickly enough that it makes your stomach lurch.

"We've arrived." Galsenn announces, and shortly thereafter the hatch opens, flanked by two armoured Imperials. "Welcome home."

The lot of you disembark, and Galsenn leads the way. A long red path stretches out before you, winding its way into the Valley of the Dark Lords.

>>

You clamber out of the shuttle last, letting the other acolytes file out before you. Perhaps unsurpisingly, Zakk and Kagg are the first to disembark, practically racing to be the first to touch their boots to the sacred soil. The two aliens are next, then Moriana.

You bring up the rear for a while as the group makes it way into the sprawling valley, and you can tell there'll be quite a bit of walking from the landing pad to the monolithic Academy building. After a little while you find yourself side-by-side with Moriana,

Your father's description of Korriban was not wrong, it's truly something else. You've felt the power of the force within you before, but to be this close to the Valley of the Dark Lords, taking in the immense dark side aura all around you... it's captivating. You revel in the experience for quite some time, before finally turning to your fellow acolyte, the only other female in the group as far as you can tell.

"So, you don't seem much like Zakk and Kagg, how did you come to be here?"

Moriana seems like she's similarly preoccupied with the raw presence of the tombs. Your voice catches her by surprise, breaking the spel..

"Me? Oh, I..." she pauses a moment, gathering her thoughts. "I saved a man's life with the force, didn't even know how I did it, but he brought me to the Empire to learn to control my power."

That's... incredibly vague. Seems like she's evading giving any real detail.

Well, she definitely seems like she'd rather keep her past to herself. You figure perhaps a bit of give-and-take might help you, give her something inconsequential about yourself, hopefully get something interesting out of her in return. If nothing else, she was at least able to identify the gand when you weren't, she might know more about the galaxy that you don't.

"I was born for this, my father is a Sith Lord. He fought on Coruscant."

The girl seems taken aback, not quite sure what to say to that.

We should quietly apologize for cheating her out of the riddle contest, by rights she actually won but it was so important to have one of the twins win and set them against each other. Stroke her ego somewhat.

Always been fond of playing kingmaker, in this case probably followed by betraying the eventual victor.

>>36274637
That's BARELY even a gameplan if you do it right, two acolytes with a pre-existing connection is such a blatant threat to everyone that isn't them that being pretty much open about wanting to keep them apart really isn't playing your hand too much.
>>
>>36274685
Unfortunately I suspect team mom would be a pretty risky move in the long run. It's the nature of sith training for not everyone to make it to the end, and the moment we don't care that someone got taken out is the moment everyone knows we're not actually on their side at all.

Better to pick one peer and make them the lead, then betray THEM when they're the only one left to betray
>>
>>36274764
Or we could not be stupid, apologize to her for cheating her out of her win, and not display that we have nefarious thoughts about the acolytes to another acolyte.

No it isn't. She was there and could see just as well as we could that if we had let her win there would have been a fight.

Still, letting her know we're already in action may make us a target for being quick on taking out the competition, maybe she already did with that riddle game..... >>36274813 this sounds better

>>36274366
You decide not to keep trying to get her to talk, it'll probably only be counter-productive. Get her to open up some other way in the future, maybe. For her part, Moriana looks glad, a little more comfortable, maybe. Evidently she's not precisely a social butterfly.

The quiet doesn't persist for long. Soon you're into the immediate perimeter of the Academy, Galsenn stops you all briefly to pass some guards, and you then pass into the bustle of Imperials and Sith alike around the main entrance.

But there's no time to socialise, Galsenn leads you straight up the stairway and into the main structure, where he meets with two other Sith, who seem to have been waiting for him; one pureblood, one human, both male.

"These are Assistant Overseers Aster and Zorrin. If I'm not present, you answer to them." Galsenn explains. "After your formal induction, they'll also show you to your chambers. Now, speaking of."

Galsenn gestures towards a long corridor, and leads you, at last, into a small classroom. It's remarkably mundane, all things considered, ten individual desks set up facing a larger one at the far end of the room, where the three Overseers take up position. "Be seated."

The pureblood, Aster, you think, checks you're all present. Sort of a meaningless gesture, there's only six, but still. "Kagg Athreon, Moriana Vekta, Vorr Tivask, Zakk Athreon, Zakm'yle'neras... and, alien, your name is listed as Gand. That is a species."

"This one has yet to earn its name." the gand responds.

Aster sighs. "Given the lack of other gand acolytes, I suppose that'll do."

[1/2]
>>
[2/2]

Galsenn speaks up again now. "Now, I'm sure you all know why you're here. You are strong in the force, and by Imperial law, you become Sith, or you die trying. In the coming years, you will learn the fundaments of Sith philosophy, how to wield a lightsaber in battle, and how to bend the living force to your will. When you're ready, you will travel elsewhere in the Empire to put your skills to use. And if you survive in the real galaxy, you will ultimately return here to construct your own lightsaber, face your final trial, and become apprenticed to a Sith Lord."

He pauses. "It's no secret that most of you will not survive this process. It is not rare for entire groups to fail. It is exceedingly rare for more than one member of a group to succeed. With that said, murder of your fellow acolytes is strictly forbidden. If you're lucky, you'll be exiled to Korriban's wastelands. In all likeliness you'll simply be executed. No murder."

Another pause. "Now, Assistant Overseer Aster will see Zakk, Kagg, Gand and Vorr to the male dorms. Moriana, Za... Mylene, Zorrin will show you two to the female dorms. They will answer any questions once you arrive."

My apologies for cutting us off after this one, but it's getting late again, and this seems like a natural place to have a pause. I imagine the next thread will be tomorrow, or Saturday if not. It's been super rad running this for you guys so far.

---

No point drawing attention to yourself and holding up the process. Time to go see where you'll be living for the next few years, and maybe get some rest.

The human overseer leads you and Moriana back into the central hall of the Academy along with the pureblood and the male acolytes, both groups head upstairs, but two floors up, Zorrin leads the two of you away from the others. Like the rest of the building, your room is decorated in cold greys and blacks with a few red highlights, with furnishing that could best be described as "featureless and functional". Currently only one other acolyte seems to be in residence, a tall blonde human apparently asleep on the far side of the room.

Home sweet home.

---

Well that's the end of this video, remember to rate the video, comment the video and subscribe if you want to see videos similar to this one. See ya.

Which is to say, thanks for playing so far, Zorrin will take questions in Episode 3 if you guys want, and you know, everything else you'll wanna do I suppose. Twitter's at the top of the page, and I'll probably end up putting together a character sheet on Pastebin or something eventually. If there's a lot of demand for Zeltron I guess I'll consider it but generally I'd rather not throw down a retcon, it's just awkward.

Love you all.
>>
>>36275300
On the flip side by that point anything that's a physical challenge for us will absolutely wipe the floor with the humans, so being the primary threat won't actually be a very big deal. Really this wasn't remotely fair timing on dad's part, he's kind of an asshole.

I'd certainly like it, they're great for the role we're trying to get.
>>
>>36275434
>If there's a lot of demand for Zeltron I guess I'll consider it but generally I'd rather not throw down a retcon, it's just awkward.
It might be more appropriate to age us down a little.
>>
>>36275279
Far as I know it's just a lot of dicking around with lightsabers and the occasional force push on the enemy or intense starting at the lightsaber to get it to come back to you.

>>36275319
Wait... Are... Oh yeah Chiss arent the pink ones, Zeltron are the pink ones with pheromones! I really should read up on the races.

>>36275434
>but it's getting late again
That sounds like a possibility to start earlier next time, that would be dope for me at lest. Anyways thanks for the thread.
>>
>>36275434
Drop our age a little so we don't growth spike til the end of training. Might make it harder for us, but when shit hits the fan in the finals we'll be able to grow all out.
>>
>>36275473
Assuming everyone else is around 10 (or 10-equivalent for the Gand), it might make sense for us to have been sent at like 8, so the midpoint of our adolescence matches up with the midpoint of everyone else's. I mean I doubt dad would want a daughter who made sith through no actual merit of her own but just became a full adult with the physical capability that represents before everyone else.

>>36275467

FUCK no
>>
>>36275539
Also if we start off smaller we need to be even more skilled to win, he gave the other students a handicap.
>>
>>36275473
>>36275534
That's a better idea, come to think of it. I'll be completely honest here, I forgot Chiss have turbo-puberty. I'm down for decreasing our age to "10 by human standards that's totally what I meant" rather than "literally 10".

Also yes I'll endeavour to start earlier in the future, too.
>>
>>36275578
Could you have a last vote in the thread to change to Zeltron?

We're going to be doing a retcon either way, after all.
>>
>>36275578
So what do we all think is an appropriate age? I'm the anon that said 8, which honestly still gives us an advantage in the long term overall but also any younger than that feels WAY to young for us to even have a chance starting out.
>>
>>36275610
Zeltron= racial gullibility bonus

>>
>>36275610

The character is a Chiss, deal with it.

>>36275631

>>36275610
>>36275665
I'm a goofus that's gone and archived this thread before it's ended because I didn't expect to have a vote come up at the end, so I'd prefer if we did it at the start of the next one so there's actually a record of it.
>>36275631
That said if/when there is to be one, I personally am in favour of this anon's idea to just make Mylene a bit younger. Probably just not directly specifying, as >>36275682
suggests. But like I say, in the next thread.

Like 99.9% against retconning race, mind you. I'd want, like, near-unanimous agreement which doesn't seem to exist.

You're an idiot.

>>36275702
Age is something that can be fairly well dealt with easily without causing a fuss, but wanting to retcon the race of the MC just because you want a shiny little bonus? Fuck off metagaming scum, play the character.
>>
>>36275715
>Like 99.9% against retconning race, mind you. I'd want, like, near-unanimous agreement which doesn't seem to exist.
Hold a final destination vote, then we can drop it forever.
>>
>>36275715
>so I'd prefer if we did it at the start of the next one so there's actually a record of it.
I'd prefer you didn't seeing as it's only 1 anon and the rest don't want to change.

You can easily enough fudge the age issue to not be a problem, but retconning the race just because of one or two anons who want to metagame? Fuck them.
>>
How about we all play nice like adults?
>>
>>36275725

>>36275715
No changing race please.
>>
>>36275747
Technically we're already set to have a bonus with the age... just not for the strategy most anons are hoping for. In a lot of ways this is more balancing out an eventual bonus with an early handicap.
>>
>>36275739
This isn't Eve about meta gaming you fucking idiot. People have been pushing for this since the start
>>
>>36275772
Yeah, pretty big deal seeing as you want to change the race of the fucking MC after its already been established.

If you want to do that this late after we've been playing already for this long then why the hell are you still here?
>>
>>36275781
See: >>36275783
It's just not the bonus YOU want. You metagaming cunt.
>>
>>36275781
>You are stupid if you think that, as is, our age would give us a bonus pretty soon, but we're saying we should set it back so that it DOES NOT give us an advantage unduly...
In fairness it would give us a PHYSICAL bonus but a social penalty from having such an obvious advantage and everyone wants to play social.
>>
>>36275682
This solves the problem and the race change is put to an end
>>
>>36275800
Race has hardly influenced the quest, and where it has it will influence it in the same way despite the hangs.
>>
>>36275801
I'm not metagaming at all, I wanted to play a Chiss, so I'm here playing a Chiss.

If you want to play something else, go find something else or make your own.

And you honestly cannot possibly even try to use that argument, the initial reasoning, and the reasoning behind your entire argument for changing race has been based on that racial bonus.
>>
>>36275823
> and the reasoning behind your entire argument for changing race has been based on that racial bonus.
No it hasn't, you've been assuming this since the start.
>>
>>36275820
The problem is that we're already perfectly fine with the character we have, but now they want to change it to directly influence the quest.

If you don't like the MC, then deal with it.
>>
>>36275823
Nice assumption asshole.
>>
Jesus now I regret even mentioning the accelerated aging, if I hadn't we wouldn't even have the possibility of a retcon in the cards.
>>
>>36275715
>I'd want, like, near-unanimous agreement which doesn't seem to exist.
Yep, so it sounds like we're sticking with what we've got and you can subtly handwave the age issues, that sounds like the best option.
>>
>>36275800
>after we've been playing already

What the hell are you on about?
It's been three threads and about an hour in game. Literaly nothing has happend besides character introductions.
>>
>>36275850
And it's not even going to be a problem because the OP can deal with that so it won't be a problem and will be balanced.
>>
>>36275715
Hand wave us as a larger than average 8 year old and leave it at that. fair enough this way and we can keep the racewar to a minimum.
>>
Okay here's the final decision because this is getting silly.

No we aren't changing race. It's too significant a change, especially when it's clearly so contentious.

Fudging age is not a matter of a bonus or whatever, it's more because I goofed on chiss adolescence, and having MC become physically a teenager almost immediately whilst everyone else is still kids is just awkward.

So I'm in agreement with the anons saying we just give no specific age from here on in, or handwave it some other way (MC is a late bloomer, ignore Chiss puberty fluff, whatver). I'll make up my mind by the time we start the next thread, might be a vote, will probably just be "yeah screw it we're fiddling the number a bit".

In the mean time, can we be civil?
>>
>>36275865
So if this was a quest were we took 40 threads to get through half a day in game you would be perfectly fine with arguing for retconning the character just because not much has happened?
>>
>>36275889
Thanks for being sensible and awesome OP
>>
>>36275895
But it didn't. It's not that sort of quest at all, it's been two threads.

>>36275889
> It's too significant a change, especially when it's clearly so contentious.
It's hardly much of a change, and there's only one autistic anon even arguing about it.
>>
>>36275889

So we're playing some sort of Chiss looking alien that's not actually a Chiss?

Whatever.
>>
>>36275959
Yeah we are, it's just making it so that we don't gain a massive advantage because we age through puberty slightly faster, it's just readjusting the relative scale of the acolytes development a little, doesn't remove our chissness
>>
>>36275959
>>36275980
You can stop samefagging now...

>>36275937
Anon, the age issue is not that big a deal, it's not been stated in character how old we are concretely to a set standard and scale, and this is just nudging it to avoid a balance issue, and not rewriting the entire character.

If we're going to be playing a Chiss then we're playing a Chiss. Lets stop fucking about with this already. Either we're a Chiss, or a Zeltron, or something else. We're not some weird mixture.
>>
>>36276091
If you're going to be like that then just leave and go shitpost in the /qtg/ already.
>>
This has very much spiralled out of hand, and I had such high hopes given how unexpectedly well it'd been going so far. Then again that was one thread, maybe I was too optimistic.

Basically this is one tiny issue that's been turned into a platform for arguing something else entirely. In all honesty, I didn't realise it was a thing, and I imagine most of you didn't either. It was always my intention for the acolytes to be the same age and maturity for the most part, give or take females starting and finishing puberty earlier and such. Part of me wants to change nothing and see what happens, part of me wants to make a small change to make things simpler. None of me wants to listen to (or read, you know) you guys argue over the essential chiss-ness of age or why being a zeltron is so much better.

Given how strongly you guys seem to feel about this, a vote seems very likely. If ignoring fluff offends too many, we won't do that. If dialing back the age offends too many, we don't do that. If we have to deal with turbo-puberty right away, I guess we just have to. But we're not changing race.
>>
In the first thread, OP was just like "hey, you're a ten year old Chiss" so aging us down simply means that everything is as it should be, not that we are playing pseudo-chiss or some other race.
>>
>>36276145
>We're not some weird mixture.
I'm not seeing how you think that not saying a concrete number for our age currently is resulting in us being some weird hybrid race.
>>
>>36276145
I don't think anyone's even actually arguing in favor of 'completely ignore chiss aging' except as 'a fine whatever, anything to stop this damn argument.'
>>
>>36276176
Lets go with Turbo-Puberty. After all, I think in the first thread our later-body was going to be really short anyway right? Should be fine.

>>
>>36276271
>We'll be playing an 8 year old Chiss so we don't break the game. i.E. we hit 20 when they hit 16.
Actually i'm pretty sure that's exactly what eight year old chriss would result in, it's just ten year old chiss would mean we hit twenty when they hit FOURTEEN.

Personally I like the idea of a starting physical disadvantage that later turns into a physically advantage, it sounds fun BUT I will put up with whatever OP goes with.
>>
>>36276338
Do we either end up breaking all the physical challenges and have them all gang up on us or get boosted through the classes to people we don't know and have years more experience than us? Great way to end up ganked. But whatever have faith in the Qm.

Think about it this way: in universe, a Chiss Sith acolyte would be sent to Korriban earlier in life than a human so that they would not develop sooner than other acolytes.
CC, when he created this quest, wanted us to be on the same level as other acolytes physically and mentally. We are a Chiss only for the social implications and history of our father. This is shown in Moriana's surprise that we are being trained as an acolyte. This is what being Chiss is meant to do in this quest, not age us up or make us physically superior.

This is why I think we should just age our character down to 8 years old. It preserves the intended characteristics while removing the unintentional consequences of having a Chiss character.

Still here, boggling vacantly at these shenanigans. And also reassembling my bed I took everything off it earlier.

Full disclosure my plan was always to gloss over a lot of the early years, with major scenes played out and the rest done as general trends in how we train and interact. So the age thing will come into play, but it won't be as significant as it could be. In all honesty it didn't occur to me when we decided on race, I figured that Chiss, as near-humans, would be a cultural and cosmetic choice rather than a physical one.

So here's the verdict, we won't change anything and we'll see what happens. If being bigger makes you threatening briefly, you'll have to find ways to deal with it. And a blind, one-handed gungan may just appear if you're good.
